John 1:29-51
Who is this strange man? Man or God? Messiah or Rabbi? As we begin our journey with John the Evangelist, we see people struggling to define Jesus. They almost get it.
A little different this week. Four reflections made by key members of the nativity story and by John the Evangelist. In order they are Joseph, a Magi, a Shepherd, Mary, and John.
I'm afraid the music does come in a bit around the cuts. I also apologize for my coughing.
Merry Christmas! The Word has become Flesh!

Mark 14:50-52, 16:1-8
A good story begins with an end. The loss of a loved one, a job, or an understanding of the world. Here we encounter the end of Jesus’s time on Earth and Death as we knew it. It is the End that pushes us out onto the path of discipleship, true discipleship. And thus begins our story…
Special thanks to our musicians: Bev B, Mike C, Janice M., & Olivia E.
Week 12 and finale of our series, “Unexpected Messiah; the Defiant Jesus of Mark.”
Worship for March 28th
Mark Mark 14:17
-31 - Palm Sunday
We often end our prayer with ‘Amen,’ let it be so. It is a seal on our words, a wish, and a confirmation of the truth of what we said and heard. Jesus’s time is coming to an end, we raise an Amen to his life and ministry. We also say ‘Aṣẹ,’ a term from our Nigerian brothers and sisters. A wish for power to be instilled into the life and lessons of Jesus and our world. As Jesus prepares for the cross and we prepared for Good Friday, let us seal his teaching into our hearts and breathe power into living them.
Special thanks to our musicians: Bev B, Mike C, & Ranay H.
Week 11 of our series, “Unexpected Messiah; the Defiant Jesus of Mark.”
Worship for March 14th
Mark 11:15-18, Jesus Cleans the Temple Court
We are called to be peacemakers. We approach this as pacifist, but we see in Jesus that we are not called to being passive-ist. What is our reaction to sin? Does it differ when the sin is our’s, others’, relational, or systemic? How can we turn over the tables? Week 9 of our Series: Unexpected Messiah
Special thanks to our musicians: Bev B. & Mike C.
Week 10 of our series, “Unexpected Messiah; the Defiant Jesus of Mark.”
Worship for March 14th
Mark 14:1-11, Jesus Anointed, Judas Turns Away
We attach value to everything: material goods, time, relationships, and even people. What are we mislabeling? What do we price as Worthless that God deems Priceless? What do we see as Priceless, but is really Worthless?
Special thanks to our musicians: Bev B. & Mike C.
Week 9 of our series, “Unexpected Messiah; the Defiant Jesus of Mark.”
Worship for March 7th
Mark 11:12-14, 20-24; 13:28-31, Jesus and the Fig Tree
Appearances can be deceptive, not only can they cause misleading assumptions, but they can keep us from realizing the correct path. God pushes us to transform ourselves, to make changes that may not be visible to anyone else. And to change again and again, ever reaching for Jesus’s example.
Special thanks to our musicians: Bev B. & Janice M.
Week 8 of our series, “Unexpected Messiah; the Defiant Jesus of Mark.”
Worship for Feb. 28th (My apologies, I didn't realize it hadn't uploaded last week.)
Mark 10:17-31, Jesus and the Rich Man
The rich man had no reason to be kept from the Kingdom of God, right? Jesus immediately finds the thing that has held him back and tells him how to correct, but he walks away. What is holding you back? What is God calling attention to?
Special thanks to our musicians: Bev B.
Week 7 of our series, “Unexpected Messiah; the Defiant Jesus of Mark.”
Worship for Feb. 21st
Mark 7:31-37, Jesus Heals in an Unusual Way
Just when you think you have a handle on Jesus and his Way, he does something unexpected, even downright weird! The world is full of rejected strangeness. God works through the strange, teaches lessons through the strange… wait are we among the strange‽
Special thanks to our musicians: Bev B. & Bev S.
Week 6 of our series, “Unexpected Messiah; the Defiant Jesus of Mark.”
Worship for Feb. 14th (Happy Saint Valentine's Day)
Mark 7:1-23, Jesus Challenged By the Pharisees About Following Ritual
Jesus challenged the faith he belonged to, he called the people to deeper piety and perfect faith. In doing so, he challenged the religion of his people, the rules and regulations built around their faith. When does ritual and tradition get in the way of your relationship and walk with Jesus?
Special thanks to our musicians: Bev B. & Mike C.
Week 5 of our series, “Unexpected Messiah; the Defiant Jesus of Mark.”
Episode
Worship for Feb. 7th
Mark 6:1-6, Jesus Rejected at Nazareth
It’s impossible to know where the path of faith will take us. It’s even harder when that path leads us away from family, friends, and home. Jesus was rejected by those who watched him grow. What do we do when we find that our own path leads to rejection?
Special thanks to our musician: Bev B.
Week 4 of our series, “Unexpected Messiah; the Defiant Jesus of Mark.”
Worship for Jan. 31st
Mark 5:1-20, The Gerasene Demoniac
Jesus challenged the sins that were no longer recognized, the sins that were acceptable. We are challenged to not take part.
Special thanks to our musicians: Bev B. & Mike C.
Week 3 of our series, “Unexpected Messiah; the Defiant Jesus of Mark.”
Worship for Jan. 24th
Mark 2:13-17, The Calling of Levi and a Feast with the Disreputable
The old adage goes, “You can tell a lot about a person by the company they keep.” Jesus, Son of God does not keep company with the “respectable.” No, he spends his time with the least respectable. Serving our neighbors means serving those who need it most. Love for our neighbors extends past the boundaries we set up, defying our comfort and convention.
Special thanks to our musician: Bev B.
Week 2 of our series, “Unexpected Messiah; the Defiant Jesus of Mark.”
Week 1 of our series, “Unexpected Messiah; the Defiant Jesus of Mark.”
Mark 1:1-15 - John, Jesus, a Baptism, & a Beginning
Jesus starts among the outsiders, the ignored, the rabble rousers. He is here to shake things up, not build up the conventional.
Thank you to our musicians: Bev B. & Mike C.
