Who or what are you following? In the final message of our DIY series, we look at the Bible through the story of the pillar of cloud in Exodus and discover how God has always desired to dwell with His people. When the voices of the world grow louder than the voice of God, we're reminded to follow the cloud, not the crowd. This message explores what it means to trust God's presence, surrender our own plans, and choose the One who came to rescue us.

The Holy Spirit isn’t just beside us. He lives within us, shaping, comforting, and guiding us every day. We explore how the Spirit convicts us of what’s wrong, leads us toward what’s right, and helps us focus on what truly matters. Like spiritual “rumble strips,” His conviction isn’t condemnation, it’s God lovingly calling us back, helping us course-correct, and leading us into the life He’s designed for us. Tune out the noise, tune in to His voice, and catch the wind of God’s Spirit.

We’re kicking off a brand new series exploring one of the most misunderstood books of the Bible, the Book of Leviticus. Often skipped or overlooked, this book reveals something powerful about God’s heart and ultimately points us to Jesus Christ. Through the imagery of the Tabernacle, we see how God made a way for sinful people to approach a holy God and how every part of that system was preparing the way for Jesus. The message of Leviticus is not just about rules or rituals. It is about a God who keeps calling His people back to Himself.
Because of Jesus, the veil is torn and we can now come boldly into God’s presence.

This year, we are declaring wisdom in a world filled with noise, opinions, and endless information. Biblical wisdom goes beyond knowing right from wrong. It teaches us how to live faithfully in the gray spaces of everyday life. Drawing from Proverbs and the life of Jesus, this message explores how true wisdom begins with reverence for God and is formed through immersion in Scripture, obedience to God’s ways, and life-giving, Christ-centered community. Wisdom is not accidental. It is cultivated by following Jesus and allowing His truth to shape our thinking, our decisions, and the way we live each day.

We’re not making resolutions, we’re making declarations. This message calls us to move from “I hope” to “I declare” by taking responsibility for our lives with God’s help and the power of the Holy Spirit. Instead of blaming others or living with a victim mentality, we’re challenged to look in the mirror, own our part, and take action, because faith without action is dead. From Genesis to the teachings of Jesus, Scripture shows that God designed us to be responsible people who grow, heal, and overcome. You may have been hurt, wronged, or even victimized, but in Christ you don’t have to stay stuck. Real transformation begins when we stop the blame game, embrace repentance, and step forward in faith, declaring that the buck stops with us.

As a new year begins, let's choose to move away from empty resolutions and instead make bold declarations about who we are becoming. Real change doesn’t come from hoping things will be different, but from living with consistency, doing daily what truly matters, even when growth feels slow. By starting small, staying patient, planning for failure, and learning to love the process, transformation will take root in every area of life. This is an invitation to stop drifting, step out of autopilot, and declare a life of purpose, faith, and steady obedience in the year ahead.
New beginnings start with honest endings. Let's close out 2025 together by discovering the freedom that comes when we let go of what holds us back and make room for what God wants to grow.
In this opening message of the "I Declare" series, you're invited to identify what needs to stop so you can move into the new year with clarity, freedom, and purpose.
We often approach January focused on what we want to add—new goals, new habits, new commitments. But wisdom is sometimes subtractive. Before we can fully embrace who God is calling us to be, we need to take an honest look at what's been weighing us down and have the courage to let it go.
This series is about stepping out of fear, shame, and spiritual passivity and learning to declare—and live—what God says is true. It starts here, with a single question: What necessary ending is waiting for you on the other side of this year?

How do we truly make an impact for Jesus? A surprising study of two missionary teams in Thailand revealed that those focused on blessing others saw 48 people come to faith—while those focused solely on conversion saw just one. This message unpacks the final practice in our BLESS series: sharing your story. Discover how to be ready with a simple, authentic three-part story of your life before Jesus, how you met Him, and what life has been like since. When we live Jesus-shaped lives that provoke questions, we'll have opportunities to share the hope within us—with gentleness and respect. On this All Saints weekend, we're reminded of the faithful witnesses who blessed us with their stories, and we're challenged to become part of someone else's cloud of witnesses.

Jesus spent more time eating with people than almost anything else—tax collectors, sinners, outcasts. Why? Because the table is where grace happens.
In a world of isolation and surface-level connections, discover how something as simple as sharing a meal can become a powerful ministry. This message explores Jesus' revolutionary practice of using the dinner table to extend grace, build relationships, and welcome the overlooked. Learn how every meal is an opportunity to live on mission—starting with your own kitchen table. When we open our homes and hearts over food, we give people a taste of the heavenly banquet where everyone has a seat and every name is written in ink.

In a world full of noise where everyone is talking but few are truly listening, we're called to something different. This message explores one of the most powerful ways we can show love to others: by genuinely listening to them.
Drawing from Jesus' encounter with a blind beggar in Luke 18, we discover that listening isn't just about gathering information—it's about giving someone the dignity of being seen and heard. When Jesus stopped for one desperate voice in a crowded street, he modeled what it means to truly pay attention to another person.
Listening is loving. It's how we open hearts, build bridges of trust, and create space for authentic relationships. Whether it's with family, friends, neighbors, or that person God has placed on your heart, learning to listen well is essential to living on mission.
This week's challenge: Practice the gift of active listening. Grab a BLESS card and put practical listening habits into action—because the world needs more people who will hear others the way Jesus does.

Just like a child eagerly checking if their planted seed has grown or measuring their height against the wall, God expects and equips us for spiritual growth. In Ephesians 4, we discover that being "made new" in Christ isn't just about forgiveness—it's about transformation that leads to maturity.
The message challenges us to move beyond spiritual infancy, putting off our old ways like dirty clothes and putting on the new self created to be like God. This isn't about behavior modification but heart transformation—becoming people who want to do what's right. From stealing to giving, from harmful words to building others up, from bitterness to compassion—God is calling us to grow up.
Spiritual maturity happens in community through groups, relationships, and new habits that align with our calling as followers of Jesus. The world needs a church that has grown up—one that holds firmly to both truth and love, supporting one another as each person does their part.

In a world filled with division and hostility, what does it truly mean to be "Made New" in Christ? This week's message, based on Ephesians 2, highlights that Jesus's death on the cross broke down the "dividing wall of hostility" that separates people. The sermon challenges believers to "act like it" by actively working to heal divisions and bring people together. God's dream is for the church to be a new community where everyone is welcome, a reflection of heaven's vision where people from every nation, tribe, and language worship as one. The message urges us to examine our own attitudes and actions to ensure we are tearing down walls, not building them, and living out the unifying power of the gospel.

Money's role in life is about identity over possessions. Proverbs stress a relational view of money, reflecting God's care for the poor and cautioning against wealth pursuit. If they gain even a small foothold in your life, they can quickly escalate their influence. Their ultimate goal is to distance you from God, leaving you feeling unsatisfied, injured, and always searching for more.
In this episode of "Making Life Work" titled "Desire and Temptation," Jared Fox offers practical strategies for effectively managing these powerful temptations.

We are at war. Not with a foreign government or domestic terrorists or a creepy new artificial intelligence. No, it’s a war we feel deep inside our own chests: we are at war with lies. The problem isn’t so much that we tell lies but that we live them. We let them in, and they sabotage our peace. Do you feel the tug of war in your own heart? All around us in the culture and deep within our own body deceptive ideas are wreaking havoc—deceptive ideas about who God is, who we are, and what the good life truly is. Imagine - You're alone in the woods. It's dark. Your murders are nearby. And evil spirits are coming to mess with you. This is where we find Jesus, hours before his death, as written in Luke 22:40-46. When faced with unimaginable pain, suffering, and sacrifice - Jesus looked death in the face and said to God "Not my will, but yours be done." This is a prayer that you can't pray on your own. In part 5 of Rock Your World, learn how Jesus' words in the garden that night made it possible for YOU to pray that prayer today - "Whatever YOU want, Lord" Find out more about the story here Luke 22:40-46 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/...
What do you do when you are mad at God? When things don’t seem fair? When bad things happen to good people? Do you ask, "Why????!!!!" Learn how to go from “WHY is this happening, God?” to “WHERE are you in this, God?” and “WHAT are you teaching me in this?”. Take the next step in learning how to pray REAL prayers by watching Part 4 of the series, Rock Your World. My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me? -Psalm 22:1 (NIV) .
Are you searching for meaning or happiness in your life? Maybe instead of trying to find your life…you should give it away. Learn how to start asking what you can do for God instead of what God can do for you. “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” “Here I am, Lord. Send Me.” -Isaiah 6:8 (NIV)
Divisiveness is running rampant in our World. It destroys relationships, undermines love, kindness and togetherness. Jesus saw this division coming. In his final days, he prayed to God for protection and unity for his disciples. He told them not to mirror the world, but instead carve new paths that reflect his values. Learn how to pray like Jesus. Seek opportunity for unity, lay down your preferences, invite others in, and show compassion and unconditional love to those you disagree with. Our unity is key to experiencing God’s Kingdom.
Let’s admit it: some prayers are lame. They lack faith and heart and there’s no power or punch. They don’t change anything or anyone. But Jesus prayed in a way that rocked the world. He connected his heart with the Father in a way that was risky, radical and real. You and I can pray EXACTLY the same way Jesus did. But do not pray like this … unless you’re ready for God to rock your world and change the world around you at the same time.
Do you ever get stuck constantly measuring and comparing yourself with others? Our world seems to be obsessed with ranking and comparison - Keeping up. But what if the definition of greatness was not even close to what we thought? What if the one ingredient that could change everything was actually not about greatness at all? Jesus addressed his disciples about this very thing and no one would have expected his response to the question, "Who is the greatest in your Kingdom?"Join Guest Preacher Joshua Symonette from Hopeville Baltimore as he preaches on Matthew 18.

What if we looked at Christmas from a different perspective? Lifting our gaze from the earthly point of view to a cosmic perspective reveals how God was at work behind the scenes back then -- and how we can trust God who is at work behind the scenes right now. Behind the scenes that show us a tiny infant in Mary’s arms, there is a bigger story happening in the realm of heaven. There are HUGE implications of what happened when Jesus came. What is Christmas like from a heavenly perspective, not just an earthly one? It’s not just about what happened in the inn that night, but what it means for the universe for eternity.
The Bible says angels are spiritual beings. They are often present but not seen - they are behind the scenes. Angels are sent to express God’s love by being with us and for us and pointing us to the redemption that comes through Jesus. God wants to get through to you and He may just use angels to do it.
Seven hundred years before the birth of Jesus, God was at work behind the scenes. Real life questions about God, faith, social issues and life. What would a professional Christian Counselor say about what’s going on in my life? What are some ways I can get better mental health? I keep seeing Christians walk away from God, and others talk about “deconstructing” their faith. What’s happening and how should I think about this? With all the scary global events, the deterioration of societal morals, and the increase in weird weather catastrophes -- are we in the end times?

Some of those changes are on the inside, where our roots go down. And some of those changes are on the outside, where our boots hit the pavement. Are you ready to sink your roots into God, so you can bear the fruit of God’s Spirit?

Are you ready to sink your roots into God, so you can bear the fruit of God’s Spirit?
What foundation are you building your life on? When the storms of life come, have you trusted in something that can stand? If we take Jesus seriously, we will believe he is who he said he was. If he truly is God, then can we trust him? If we trust him, then will we listen and follow where He leads?
What if WE got serious about taking Jesus at his word and putting his Word into practice? Imagine how different your life – and the world – would be if those who claimed to follow Jesus actually did.
Where do you turn when you're lying awake with anxiety? When stress piles up, others fail you, or when money looks tight? Jesus knew that we would struggle with these worries in life. He whispers- "Trust me." He invites us to turn our attention away from worry and toward the things of Jesus. As we do that, we discover a new standard for relating to others. To stop judging. But first, we have to understand who we choose to serve... What if WE got serious about taking Jesus at his word and putting his Word into practice? Imagine how different your life – and the world – would be if those who claimed to follow Jesus actually did.
How do you talk to God? Just like any other relationship, how you see God likely impacts how you talk to him. Jesus knew that we'd need a guide - Both for how we see God and for how we should talk to him. In Matthew 6, he gave us just that - The Lord's Prayer. Together, let's learn a better, deeper, truer understanding of each phrase of the Lord’s Prayer:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever, Amen.
What if WE got serious about taking Jesus at his word and putting his Word into practice? What if we used this model of prayer each and every day? Imagine how different your life – and the world – would be if those who claimed to follow Jesus actually did.
Is it even possible to love your enemies? To pray for those who dislike, insult, or oppress you? When Jesus called his followers to be "perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect," he wasn't giving us an impossible standard to follow. He was announcing that the Kingdom of Heaven has arrived radically and unexpectedly. And this is the blueprint that He will use to fix the problems in our world.
So, if Jesus was serious in this teaching, then some things need to change. What if WE got serious about taking Jesus at his word and putting his Word into practice? Imagine how different your life – and the world – would be if those who claimed to follow Jesus actually did.
What do you do when you're faced with a sudden outburst of anger, lust, or resentment? Do you respond how you want to? In this video, we're getting to the root of anger, how resentment keeps us from God’s best, and where to run when lust comes lurking.
Do you know what it takes to live a great life? Jesus outlines how to have a great life, and it's probably not what you'd think... In the most ignored teaching of Jesus in the Bible (The Sermon on the Mount), Jesus teaches us how to live a life of purpose, meaning, joy and satisfaction. So, if Jesus was serious in this teaching, then some things need to change. What if WE got serious about taking Jesus at his word and putting his Word into practice? Imagine how different your life – and the world – would be if those who claimed to follow Jesus actually did.

There’s so much talk about mental and physical health these days. But how do you keep your SOUL healthy? Is that even a thing? How is it with your soul?
It’s easy to drift spiritually. Our hearts get pulled, our days get filled, and we find ourselves empty and far from God. With so much stress and life-draining junk going on all around us, we need a soul replenishment strategy that works.
The good news is you CAN live each day closely connected with Christ! Wherever you find yourself today, you are only a breath away from God!
We are going to learn some practices that can help us stay spiritually fresh and alive to God in the midst of a crazy time.
Lectio Divina is an ancient form of prayer, where we use Bible reading to intentionally listen to God. Through reading a small portion of scripture several times and answering a different question each time, God can speak to us, guide us, reveal his will to us through His Word.
The Examen practice is a simple set of questions that help us discover how God is present in our entire life. Practicing the Examen involves taking a few minutes of quiet at the end of your day to reflect on the day, and then invite Jesus to guide those self reflections. As we practice this self-evaluation before God- we will find ourselves becoming people who live more fully with God in our daily lives.

Growing in life starts with examining the life you’re living. Our spiritual lives are no different. God’s often placed signs and experiences in our life to direct us towards his will for our best life. All we have to do is slow down and listen. In this message, we will dive into the practice of the Examen. Examining your life daily through this practice may be your next step towards a healthy, thriving soul.
You don't choose the same medicine for every ailment, yet that's pretty much what most Christians do when it comes to our spiritual health. We can feel sort of stuck in a single way that we've selected on how to stay alive to God. But is that the only way?
After awhile certain things we choose don't meet our needs any longer. The very thing that originally was supposed to help you connect and stay close to God, actually could start to take you further away. Even when you find something that works for you, there comes a time when you have to change it up. God doesn't make us cookie cutters. We all have difference experiences and temperaments, personalities and pathways. We all draw near to God in different ways, through different pathways. How do you do choose to draw near to God? What is your pathway?
No matter how far we may be from God we can experience revival, new life, and a whole new way of going at life. We can come into a relationship with Jesus for the first time ever and come alive to Him and we can come back and reconnect with Him. When you are alive to God everything in your life gets better.
The way we stay alive to God is staying connected to Jesus. No matter where you are with Jesus, you’re invited to come closer, to come more alive to God, to walk more closely with the spirit and to think about your spiritual world in an entirely new way. To be aware of God’s presence. Are you hungry for something more?
Life can be hard sometimes. Jesus taught that in this world you will have trouble. The past couple of years have given us a lot to work through. When it comes to disappointment and difficult times in life, we typically rely on three coping strategies: despair, resignation, and HOPE. Hope is when you still allow yourself to want and long. And even though you don’t have it in your hands and can’t quite see it in the moment, you believe it is coming one day. That’s what HOPE is. Christian HOPE is banking your hope strongly in the strong name of God. Where you realize your HOPE is only as strong as what you attach it to. When you anchor your HOPE in God you have an immovable thing that cannot be taken. There is only one source of this kind of HOPE… and it’s Jesus. How is your level of HOPE today?
There are a lot of places you may not be in your life if it wasn’t for someone who invited you to something. Invitation is a way of saying: I see you. I care about you. I want to include you. Today, we’re calling everyone to pray for that someone in your life you needs hope. Because power is unleashed when you pray and your prayers are held before God. Prayer changes lives, moves heaven and breaks strongholds. Your prayer doesn’t have to be fancy, you just need to mention their name. “God, will you please help {insert name} find hope.” God’s heart longs to see everyone find hope. If God is filling you with hope, He invites you to share that HOPE with others through a bold invitation. Be a HOPE BRINGER.
The whole point of hope isn’t just to have it but to share it. Think about it. There are people in your life who need HOPE that you care about deeply and who are far from God. And God, well, he cares about them so much more. That’s the burning desire of Jesus. He’s calling on you to bring hope to someone. When He says “Go and make disciples.” This is what He means. To let your life be used by God. How can God use you to bring hope to someone?
Jesus Hope. Jesus and his hope is something you can’t keep to yourself. Everywhere you go you can introduce that unshakeable hope in Jesus. Think about it: Are you the kind of person who shares Jesus hope? One way you can share the hope of Jesus is by praying for others. Some people feel intimidated or afraid to pray, or maybe feel like you don’t know how. Prayer is a conversation between you and God. That’s something we can all do. There is power in prayer, no matter how you do it. When you pray, you admit you don’t have control over everything no matter how much you try, and that no, you don’t have all the answers. When you pray… God hears you. Who are you praying for and sharing the hope of Jesus with today?
We’re in a very strange and interesting time in history. We’ve all been through so much disappointment and life seems to always be throwing something at us. But there is a problem that so many people in our society are having… we’re trying to pin our hope on something that can’t bear the weight of it. Life is full of disappointment and the things that we put our hope in always have a way of letting us down every… single… time.
What we need is something stronger and more stable and secure—a kind of hope that is the ultimate, foundational hope that can never be shaken or taken away. There is only one hope like that. Hope has a name and its name is Jesus Christ. God is our unshakeable hope. How strong is your hope?
What soundtrack are you playing in your mind? What’s filling our minds?
As a way of getting at that, we want to use some of the power themes that come through the familiar Christmas carols.

As a way of getting at that, we want to use some of the power themes that come through the familiar Christmas carols.
What we all actually want for Christmas and in our lives the same thing: to be happy, yes, but we want more than that—a deep abiding JOY. Everyone wants this because it’s wired into us out of our creator… out of His JOY. We have JOY planted inside of us. Will you trust God to be the source of your joy this Christmas?
"The First Noel". What is this song doing? What is it communicating? If you were going to drop the stylus into the groove of this record, where is it going to take you? How is it going to move you? Why does it belong on your Christmas Playlist?
Bethlehem was little. It was an insignificant little town. It was small. 5 miles north of Bethlehem is Jerusalem. God could have used the popular and well-known city of Jerusalem to bring Jesus to earth for the first time, but instead God chose the small, insignificant town of Bethlehem...
We all want to be less stressed and more blessed. In this final message in The Elephant in the Room Series, let's make a declaration together: To take God at His word and commit to understand, then attain and put into practice the Biblical principles when it comes to our finances. We all have a decision to make when it comes to our finances. Are you going to trust God with your money?
Maybe we should be rethinking about the principles that we live by. What we all need to decide is if we’re going to latch onto the principles that are in God’s word about money or not. We’ve already decided that by how we live. These Biblical principles about money are true, they work and they are wise. When you have principles that you trust, that you actually believe, then you live by them when things are easy and you live by them when things are hard. So, are we going to trust God to put these principles in your life?
We can’t ignore the elephant in the room when our finances get out of control. The resulting stress impacts every other area of life, stealing our joy, snatching our peace, and locking us into a prison that makes us believe there’s no way out. It’s hard enough to talk about money when things are going well, but regret and anxiety over financial mistakes makes it even harder. No matter how well or poorly we’ve handled money, the good news is we CAN take control and manage our resources in a purposeful, God-honoring way. It is possible to live free from financial stress, burdens, and debt so that we can say YES to God and live life to the fullest. But it means we’ve got to talk about The Elephant in the Room.
It can be uncomfortable to talk about finances in church. Is there anything more cliche than that? But when there are dynamics at play that are sucking the joy out of life and imprisoning us in debt and worry and creating stress in relationships—all because of something that can be a great gift and literal enrichment to life. Money! It can be such a force for good and a means by which we can flourish and bless others and help them flourish. Money is NOT the root of all evil—that’s not what the Bible says. Often, if you have money problems, it’s not really money that’s the problem. It doesn’t have as much to do with what’s in your wallet, but rather in our heart and head. Money goes and stays where you tell it to go and stay. Like when you train a dog to obey your commands. So, can you obey? Can you stay, can you heel, rather than chase everything you see? Can you have a relationship with money that is marked by contentment?
We can’t ignore the elephant in the room when our finances get out of control. We are living in a time when there is an epidemic of worrying and complaining that is crippling all of us. When you look at the life of Jesus it looks like He knew something about this--the worry and complaining. Jesus was fully human. He encountered all the things that we encounter. Scripture shows Him in very tough situations where He has these same impulses and He has to make choices. We see Jesus interacting in His thought life with the potential of ideas that would be harmful to Him and instead we see Him choose not to go in the direction of that idea.
Jesus had an idea that was planted there by the enemy of our soul. He entertained an idea and did a different thing and that’s what is available to you too. Jesus invited scripture into those moments and so can you.
Guest speaker Mindy Caliguire, co-founder+president of Soul Care Ministries and executive leader at the tech startup Gloo, shares her expertise in how modern brain science confirms the principles that Jesus modeled. Through inviting God's guidance in caring for our minds, we can care for our souls. Through caring for our souls, we experience the supernatural power needed to kick the habits of worrying and complaining once and for all.
We are what we repeatedly do. Habits shape us. They form our future. It may not seem like a big deal if we have a habit of biting our nails or licking our lips, as annoying as that can be. But outbursts of anger, incessant worrying, lusting at pornography, patterns of lying, running to unhealthy escapes or working so much it messes with your health and relationships -- that’s something else. These and other bad habits can unravel our joy, damage relationships, and block us from God. Jesus invites us to a beautiful life free of destructive habits. But first we have to be willing to go deep. Learning to look beneath the surface of the symptoms to the root cause of our bad habits unlocks the key to change. Jesus can heal and change us from the inside out as we surrender our spirit of “flesh” to the Spirit of God. Are you ready to break and replace the bad habits that are holding you back from God’s best?
We were all created for love. But what happens when that human desire for connection and acceptance goes unmet? How does it so easily distort our sexuality and drive us to dark places? What should we do with these fantasies and temptations- Even if it's just in our minds?
Lust. Porn, one night stands, wandering eyes... Our culture says that this is normal.
"Get what's yours- It's not hurting anyone!"
But we are called to another standard that holds love as the highest truth. Lust changes the way that we view people and causes us to be “ruler” over others... that's not love. Love is giving, lust is taking. Love honors the other person, lust diminishes the person and turns them into an “object."
We are called to be people that LIVE DIFFERENTLY, to love and to serve others. Together, there is hope to escape lust's grip as a force of habit.
When you’re feeling bad, sad or mad where do you turn? Life is hard. In the middle of the stress, difficulty, and trauma we tend to look for some kind of relief… we look for an escape. And occasionally we all need some of relief. We all need a break. Jesus did too. Escapes start innocently enough and they seem to promise to make it all be OK, but they never actually provide the relief that we’re looking for… but we keep trying, and then they escalate. When you need relief, Jesus says come to me. When you’re stressed out, Jesus says come to me. Will you let Jesus be enough?
When anger wins… we do things we regret. We silo ourselves. Nothing good happens when anger wins. We can feel anger, but we CAN’T let it win.
You don’t need to be handcuffed by your anger, but counseling without submission to Christ, will not truly transform us. We need to fully surrender EVERYTHING to Jesus.
Jesus can heal and change us from the inside out as we surrender our spirit of “flesh” to the Spirit of God. Are you ready to break and replace the bad habits that are holding you back from God’s best?

Then we will turn to scripture to see how the Lord can graciously help us replace the habit with something better.
What does God’s word say about work? How should Christians think of their jobs? What is our VOCATION and how does it differ from our OCCUPATION?
Let’s lay out a quick overview of a theology of work, productivity, retirement, and service of God -- so that we know how to STAND at Work.
As a Christ follower you see a future with Jesus. And that future with Jesus should shape your life right now as you are reading this. It should create something in you that transforms you, renews you—the way that you think and the way that you act in this life. You’re not just waiting to punch your ticket to heaven, you’re looking for tangible ways to bring heaven to Earth—at your workplace, in your neighborhood, to your school and among your friends. You’ll have this energetic holiness you can’t help but show to people, and when you do, there will be opposition and persecution. And while the opposition may be strong… the love of Christ is stronger. If you’re going to walk with Christ you have to get your faith strong so when the opposition comes you can STAND STRONG.
How do you react when suffering comes? Maybe you're going through a struggle right now. Maybe you've prayed that God would take it away but it's still with you. Peter says sometimes God takes those things away, sometimes He helps you get over it, or around it, and sometimes He just takes you right through it.
Peter wants to help us see we have to STAND FIRM. Life's not always easy, it's a call to perseverance. In his letter in 1 Peter, he is trying to help his readers suffer well. To continue to live well and walk with Christ, who also suffered, and find encouragement in that.
When others are running for cover from the storm, you are called to STAND FIRM, just like Jesus did. Sometimes we have to stand under it in order to get through it.
When we think about the church and the life that Jesus has called us to inevitably it is against the grain and it causes us to stand out. But when we’re unified and we’re doing it with others like us it not only has a great impact but it is a reflection of what unity looks like to the world.
For today's message, Mountain welcomes Joshua Symonette, former NFL Safety for the Washington Football Team and Teaching Paster at National Community Church in Washington, D.C., to share a message on unity. Joshua and his family are planting a new church, Hope Baltimore, launching September 2021. Check out more details about Hope Baltimore at WeAreHopeBaltimore.com.
Peter. The most famous among all those that Jesus invited to follow him when he was on earth. He was the most noted, the most quoted. He lived with a certain intensity. Ultimately it was his boldness that, through the Spirit, was the catalyst for the Jesus movement taking off and just exploding all over the world. If there’s anyone who should be coaching up other Jesus followers, if there’s anyone who has the authority to teach or who knows what it means and what it takes to carry on the legacy of what’s come before, it’s Peter. Do you feel like an Olympian? Probably not athletically. But in any other sense, do you feel dominant--like you’re crushing it in life, or some area of life? Are you among the elite in school, or your career? Are you succeeding in relationships, friendships? Exceeding expectations as a parent or a spouse? Scoring high marks for thoughtfulness and patience and understanding and promise-keeping? Many people are. But many people probably not. All of that was just about you as an individual. But as a group of people who are part of this ‘Jesus movement’, the Church, a community and movement of people that collectively shares a calling from Jesus - as the Father has sent me, so I’m sending you all, Jesus said. So the question is: Do we feel like we’re succeeding in what we’ve been sent to do?
When looking at the life of Moses, many relevant and practical lessons in leadership emerge. Moses models a leadership that is defined by following the Lord's way, but he certainly learned on the job!
From trusting God to provide, to planning for succession. From to handling complaints and criticism, to sharing the load. From simply doing things the right way, to this overarching theme of being a person who fights to be led by God in all of it.
Whether we are leading ourselves or others, we can all learn something from the Moses School of Leadership.
Have you ever looked at the Bible and thought, "That's a lot of rules?!" When we look closely at the story of the Israelite people, we learn that those rules on the surface are actually an invitation to a deep, fulfilling relationship with God.
God is awesome, fearsome, majestic, HUGE, and not to be trifled with. To Moses, God said I want to give you guidance and help so you will know how to live lives that look like me -- you be HOLY as I am HOLY. The Israelites were to prepare themselves, listen carefully, and be ready to obey.
So are we.
It's like God is saying, "Do you want to be close to me? Then walk this way."
"God, can you, will you do anything about this?" If God didn't say 'Yes' to this question then The Bible couldn't go any further than the first few pages. The pages of The Bible turn only on the depth of His love and strength and His hand to restore what we've ruined. That's also true for you and your story as well. The Bible was assembled through history so that you would be able to meet and know this God. In the midst of whatever you’ve ruined or what’s ruined you, you too can move forward on the strength of God’s grace. Today, may you discover what Moses and God’s people discovered and what God urged them to pass on to the next generation.
Most of us deep in our hearts want a bigger purpose that will inspire us to live and do more than we can do on our own. Some of us have so much to live with, but so little to live for. For Moses, there was one day that changed his life, his purpose and his next steps. One. Day. There in the desert Moses was thinking that there was no way that God could use him with all his failures and mistakes. No good could come of him. But Moses was wrong. On that one day, God tried to get Moses’ attention, and this time Moses stopped to listen. What is God asking you to pay attention to today?
We all mess up and find ourselves where we don’t want to be—in a wilderness place enduring serious affliction, or deep trauma and setbacks in life. Sure we all want the rich, good beautiful life of depth of maturity, strength and joy and to arrive at the promise land of success and strength. But the reality is sometimes we find ourselves in the wilderness of failure, hardship and struggle. It happens to everyone. You’re never alone.
The good news is God uses it all, even our darkest seasons in life, to shape and help us become the version of ourselves we could never be had we never been in the wilderness. It’s a process that is baked into the way God does things. It’s ordained in us. There’s no short cut. And it’s in those places--the depths of the wilderness--that we learn some of life’s most important lessons.
An origin story is the story of your birth and your beginnings, how you got here and the stuff you overcame. We all have one. It tells us: Who am I? Do I matter? Do I have a purpose here? When we look at Moses’ life we see an origin story that’s complicated, filled with loss and hardship, separation and loneliness. Maybe your origin story is a bit like Moses’. Maybe it was hard or different from others. Whatever your origin story or family background, God has not forgotten you, He loves you and knows your story. God heard the cries of Israel and He cares about your story, too.
The things that stress us out the most are when we begin to lose control of something. It brings up insecurity in us and reveals the cracks in our perfectly-controlled world. And religion is sometimes the last place people look when things start spinning out of control. Thing is, none of us are in control. We can't fix everything. We need help of the supernatural kind. We need grace. We need God. The thing that stands between who you are now and where God wants you to be is our stubbornness, our pride and our refusal to simply trust God and act. How is God calling you to act today? What action? Maybe it's baptism. Open your spirit to everything God has for you today. Take a step with God today--to trust God with everything you do. What are you waiting for? Ready to say YES to Jesus through the act of baptism? Let us know here: MountainCC.org/Baptism.
You can do a lot of blessing without any words--praying for others, listening, eating together, and serving. But one of the best ways to really bless people the way Jesus did and to help others find Jesus is to share your story. You may be thinking that sharing your story with others feels a bit intimidating or scary or uncomfortable. However, The Bible promises us the spirit of God is always with us. Your story is God's story and it needs to be shared in the right time and in the right place. Humbly sharing the difference that Jesus has made in your life is simply friendship. So... what's your story? MountainCC.org/BlessStory
B-L-E-S-S. It’s pretty straightforward. These are some of the hallmarks of being Jesus’ people. It’s who we’re called to be. It’s what we’re called to do. We bless. In tangible ways. And to reiterate, the foundation for all this blessing activity is pretty simple as well. It goes like this... We live in a broken world. God wants to heal it. God wants to overcome evil with good. To bring blessing and beauty and wholeness. God is restoring this broken place. The peculiar thing is HOW God does it. And we can’t really afford to miss this. It’s that God works THROUGH people. God involves himself with the people God created in a very distinct way. And if you keep moving in that direction, God will prompt you to bless your neighbors by serving them. When you love people like Jesus loves, this is what you do. It’s about spending yourself on behalf of those that you love.
What if we became more intentional with how we used our meal times? What if we became more thoughtful and relational about who we eat our meals with? Something special happens when we eat with others. It’s not about what’s on the table, it’s about who is around the table. When we invite, include and welcome others to a meal it deepens friendships and good things happen. Something as simple as sharing food with someone can be a powerful way to BLESS others. Plan ahead to share a meal with someone and invite Jesus to show up, because when we are with others around a table with food, good things are going to happen.
What if we simply stopped long enough to listen? One of the most difficult skills to develop is listening. It’s true. We live in a time when hardly anyone really listens to one another. Think about it… How often do you catch yourself preparing for what you’re going to say next as the person you are speaking to is still talking? Are you truly listening? Jesus’ way of loving the people around Him was to ask good questions and then LISTEN. We can do the same! When you take time to get to know someone, to give them your full attention, that’s when people around you feel truly loved and blessed. Whoever you are and wherever you are on your faith journey, God has plans for you to join Him and be on mission with Him right now by nurturing a lifestyle of loving and blessing others.
You are blessed to be a blessing and as a follower of Jesus you are on mission every day. Jesus is inviting you to open yourself to practice your faith by daring you to begin with prayer. God uses prayer to change us and then God uses us to change the world. Today ask God to show you who He wants you to BLESS. Whoever you are and wherever you are on your faith journey, God has plans for you to join Him and be on mission with Him right now by nurturing a lifestyle of loving and blessing others. There is an adventure that God wants to take you on. Are you ready?
We all love a great comeback story, don’t we? Whether it’s a sports underdog who comes from behind to win or someone who is kicked to the curb and down for the count rises up to win. But as inspiring as those stories are for movies and documentaries, what about the rest of us normal people? When your mistakes mark you, and your failures are eating you like an ulcer, is there any hope? This Easter at Mountain we celebrate Jesus who lived the ultimate comeback story. As a result, so did a normal guy named Peter. And so can we all. Because of Jesus it’s not too late and you’re never too far for a comeback.
Everyone has manipulated the Lord for their own gain in one way or another. Everyone is undeserving. And yet, God still seeks after each and every one of us--that in Jesus we might be found. Jesus came to bring heaven to earth and He's inviting us (all of us) to live in it. Are you listening? Because God is inviting you to join Him. His invitation stands no matter how far you've strayed. EVERYONE is invited, to come HOME
Where do you turn for your help? Whether we admit it or not, we love to think of ourselves as super competent--"I can handle this." But the reality is, there are things we just cannot fix. There are limits; each of us is finite. There is hurt you can’t absorb. There are problems you can’t solve. No matter who you are, you will realize eventually that you can’t do it on your own. And eventually you will say: "I need help." God didn’t make you to be God or to be all-knowing and all-powerful with endless resources. God made you to say: "You are God and I am not and right now, God, I need your help.”
"No regrets." This is a common phrase you've probably heard. But, is it really possible to live a life with no regrets? It's true we are the people we are today because of the mistakes we've made. We make mistakes, we have problems and we have sinned. And we can learn from our mistakes. But... if you could go back and do it all over again without the pain, the shame and the guilt, you probably would, wouldn't you?
There's a big difference between the place where you live that you call home and the idea of home. Home is a bigger, deeper, richer thing, the place where you really belong. It's the place where you fit in, where you are safe, you connect and are at peace. Everyone longs for home. We long for home because we drift in life from our heart's truest home. We drift from God when life gets busy and at some point all of us end up far from home--places we never thought we'd be. No matter how far you drift, no matter how long you have been gone, God knows your name, He loves you and He invites you to come home.
"What am I going to do now?" One year ago, you may have been asking yourself this very question when the coronavirus entered into your life, impacting every aspect of your daily rhythms. And today, you also may be asking yourself that very same question. We're all in this moment of being 'in-between' where maybe you're wondering, "What's next?" But the GOOD NEWS is you already know the answer to this question. Jesus teaches that this is the very time to be filled with the Holy Spirit, to remember everything you know about how Jesus taught you to be, taught you to think and how He taught you to live and act. You don't have to stand and stare and wonder what's next because this is your moment to remember you already know what to do. It's time to open your heart to whatever God will lead you to. God does His part when we all do ours.
How do we really love people? We serve them. God is transforming us, conforming us, he’s molding us into something beautiful and something useful. As you live your whole life for Christ, God says I will take that... He "is the potter and we are the clay," and he is doing marvelous work in our lives! To walk with Christ means to be fully devoted to him, being like him. A life of sacrifice, serving others and caring for others. Christ followers step up, show up and they show off Jesus. Serving isn’t just when it’s convenient for you. It’s not about whether serving fits into my schedule, but it’s building my schedule around it.
Over the past months some of our dreams have been disrupted or disappeared. What do you do when your dreams are disrupted? We have been through some storms, hard things… through it all Jesus has been our Anchor and He is firm and secure... So now is our time to DREAM ON! As we re-engage with a God who is still on the move, we're becoming a church that flourishes in times of challenge.
Have you ever felt like a sheep that was vulnerable and weak? The pandemic has probably made you feel that way. And yet you have a shepherd that has enfolded you and pulled you in and helped you through the pandemic through the past year. Isn’t good to know you are a sheep of the Lord's pasture and He’s on the job?
God is protecting you and He is with you. Let that fill your heart with gratitude and be thankful you have a shepherd like that who can bring you to still waters and green pastures.
And then, there comes a time when you're invited to do more than be thankful that you’re safe in the fold. It's time to go find others who need to find their way in. Who is our one?
In the beginning, we were all together--God with us and us with God in close relationships. Then, sin entered the picture and one of the things that got messed up was our ability to be together in relationships. We've been thrust apart by sin and COVID has just multiplied that by 100. Isolated... we're all feeling it in some way. Thing is, when Jesus invites us to follow him, the first thing he does is bring us to a room with others. And he's inviting you, today, to enter into a Christ-centered community where you can build bridges of trust, let go of the barriers on your heart and grow. You will never fully experience community or significant transformation until you begin to acknowledge to others the truth about yourself. Think about it, do you have someone you can confess your sins to?
Who do you call when big changes and revolutionary things happen in your life? You know, that person in your life who has a solid character, who you admire and love to learn from them. This person has your best interest at heart and you know will support you and love you through the good and bad. Transformative relationships like that, make us better people and good friends like that bring out the best in us. But oftentimes we forget that Jesus invites us to think of Him as a friend too. And just like that influential friend that brings out the best in you, Jesus, the son of the living God, God in the flesh, Savior of the World--He wants to bring out the best fruit in you! People will know you're a disciple of Jesus by the fruit in your life. So maybe it's time to ask yourself, "Is good fruit being produced in my life? Or is it rotten? Am I truly abiding in Jesus?”
There’s plenty in the past to be discouraged and disgusted about. Listen and learn from it, but dwelling on the past is not the path forward in your spiritual life. Whatever happened in 2020, God can restore your fortunes and change you around, because God specializes in giving people a fresh start. And the gap between who you are today and who Jesus is calling you to be... that is the journey before you in 2021. Before you set any other goals for 2021, are you ready to fix your eyes on Christ?
A new year stirs up hopefulness and excitement about the future. Oftentimes we set new goals, and think in a fresh way about what’s ahead. There are some things we can’t control too much, but there are ways we can take responsibility for the STEPS we CAN take, for the STRIDES we can make, and with our strides and God’s strength, some real change can happen. Because Jesus loves us so much, he comes to us, and meets us where we are. Doesn’t matter how far away we are, how messed up, stressed out, screwed up or sinful or dirty, he comes to us. Jesus also wants us to come where he is! He loves us just as we are…but he loves us too much to leave us that way. Jesus also loves us so much he wants to take us some place. Some place new. He longs for us to experience some of what he is experiencing…and is inviting us to come with him…be with him… trust him enough to follow him … to a place you have not yet been. That’s what God wants to see happen in 2021. That’s God’s WISH FOR YOU. That you would go some place you have not yet been in your life. He’s wants you to trust him enough to let him change you, grow you, and help you BECOME someone new…not completely different, but actually, different. More like him… Because wherever you are right now, Jesus is saying I WISH YOU WERE HERE.
2020 is coming to an end-- the year that has been a long string of bad news. Wouldn’t it be cool if we could just start fresh in 2021? What if we could just erase it all and have a do-over in 2021? As we come upon a new year there is hope and optimism for what will come in 2021. But the reality is that there is nothing that automatically changes in life just because we flip a calendar page. The consequences of 2020 will still carry forward into 2021. However, hope remains because like in Psalm 121, we’re going to lift our eyes up and ask where does our help come from. And our help comes from the Lord. 2021 won’t automatically bring us a fresh start, but God can.
JOY! When you see the word JOY right about now in 2020, you're probably thinking.. "JOY, are you kidding me? Do you know the kind of year I've had?!" 2020 has been a rough year... but you see, that's EXACTLY WHY we need to talk about how to find JOY even in the middle of discouragement with everything that's going on. Are you happier this Christmas than last Christmas? It's an important question, but do you know what else is important? To remember the HUGE difference between happiness... and JOY. Happiness is about what happens, but JOY is bigger, deeper, and stronger and is anchored deep inside you. Tune in to discover how to find JOY this Christmas.
When disaster strikes, you’re overcome by a force that makes it painfully clear: life will never be the same again. 2020 may feel like a disaster to you. Your life has been flooded with change. Maybe you’ve been sick with COVID-19 or know somebody who has. You’ve probably been afraid. Yup, 2020 has been quite the disaster. We’re all craving GOOD NEWS even more right now, in the Christmas Season, when we’re wondering if the Christmas story is more than candy canes and gingerbread. That it has a true depth, a real strength and substance behind sentimental feelings. That it makes a difference when our world doesn’t just have disasters but IS a disaster. Does Christmas, does what God is doing and has done in Jesus, born in Bethlehem, actually mean something, actually change something in the world, in my world, for me?
Peace... on earth? Maybe a better word would be TROUBLED. We’re troubled. Not just because we have trouble getting rid of the coronavirus, or trouble knowing what to do, or trouble sleeping… but we are without and troubled within. We've struggling to find peace in in our heads and our hearts. We're plenty divided from one another, but we can't find peace inside, either. If you want PEACE, the place to find it... is Jesus. The Child born in Bethlehem who is the PRINCE of PEACE.
HOPE is our lifeblood. Without it we die. HOPE is not just wishful thinking or a fantasy or positive thinking. HOPE is born in the dark. HOPE grows in the dark, hard times. It can survive on almost nothing. Even when things look bleak, HOPE lives on, and we hold on to HOPE, our faith carries us through no matter what is going on. No new science or politics or education or legislation or human movement of any kind is going to heal us, help, and give us HOPE. HOPE is the rock of our faith that moors us to be something bigger, stronger, and more powerful, so even in the midst of the worst storm we can say ‘it is well and it will be well.’ Because we have HOPE and that HOPE is in GOD in CHRIST. So, where are you reaching for HOPE today? What part of your life do you need the HOPE of God?
This year there has been so much DISTANCE. 6 feet apart. Don’t gather. Stay apart. Don’t go to school. And we’ve gotten used to it, sort of. But as human beings, we really can never “get used to it” fully. We’ve sacrificed and stayed apart during a time when what we want and need most is to come together and hug one another and cry together. And it has taken its toll on all of us, and made even the most introverted among us aware how much we need connection and how much we are made for belonging and friendship, and how we ache for GOOD NEWS. The GOOD NEWS is that no matter how disconnected we may be and distant we may feel, God is near. God is not distant.
Happy. Thanksgiving. Honestly, BOTH of these words feel out of place this year, don't they? Happy? And Thanks? The idea of being festive and happy and thankful this year feels like a bit of a stretch. This year STINKS. But that's the exact reason why Thanksgiving THIS YEAR may be more important than EVER. Thanksgiving will be the most important DAY, the most important holiday, of your year. Thanksgiving this year is an opportunity to RESET your mind and heart... a reset that maybe you desperately need amidst a lot of the hard and stinky stuff this year. And there's more... there is a secret that will give you the power to completely change what kind of year 2020 has been. That secret is available to you, it's within your reach, and it WILL completely change your outlook and your attitude and your mood. And it will make you a more genuine Christian, and a more faithful follower of Jesus.
This year has been all about pivoting. You may be asking, “God, why do we have to go through this?” but instead, what if you asked “God, what are you doing in this?” There is opportunity in the struggle and the waiting to see what God is doing right now. Tune in to this weekend's message as we pivot once more, with a conversation over Zoom, focusing on what God has to say about times of fluctuation.
Once the next President is decided we will live on… with the pressures, tensions and problems in the country and in the world. And for everyone who says they follow Jesus or might want to--your confidence and hope to move forward comes from the clarity that God provides. It’s time to cut through the strong voices and wall of opinions that surround you and try to live with clarity. So, how do you do that? Your best chance is to start at the end, go back to the beginning, and then meet in the middle. And hang on all the way through, because wow, you (all of us) are right in the middle of it.

We’ve got a problem. Everybody knows about it, sees it, feels it. We’re talking about the deep division and thick tension around… POLITICS. There, we said it. We’re going there and we’re gonna keep it real, because lets face it, we need help! Our nation is polarized around politics. And with election season heating up, it’s not going to get BETTER. We’re talking about it because Christians are often seen as… and sometimes are… part of the problem. What are you doing about it? In this series, The Separation of Church and Hate, we’re going to get some help. Not just to personally cope with all the tension, but help in knowing how Christ followers should think and act in times like these. Throughout this series, we’re going to talk about what it looks like to respond to all this with true Christian FAITH.

Joseph’s brothers threw him in a pit, sold him into slavery, and said, “Have a great life!” But God didn’t forget about Joseph. And Joseph didn’t forget about God. He went on to live a truly great life. Turns out that a great life isn’t one without any troubles. In fact, the greatest lives come out of great struggle. Joseph found courage in the face of cruelty. Integrity when facing temptation. Forgiveness for those who hated and mistreated him. Trust in God when he was in the pit and faithfulness at the pinnacle. Wanna have a great life? Let Joseph show you what it takes.

During this very special message, called "Five For Five,” we hear from 5 special guests who will bring us a rich, personal message for five minutes each. This is a unique service, so check it out with friends and family.
A lot of us will arrive at that point when we realize: “we’ve turned into our dad.” Depending on who you are, this might be something you’d welcome and even aspire to, something you laugh at, something you resist, or something that is one of your greatest fears — or that you’d even consider a tragedy. Regardless of the father that each of us had, the best thing a father can do is help their child grow in resemblance of their heavenly father. Becoming like our heavenly father is a beautiful goal for life. This Father’s Day weekend, we’ll hear from Executive Pastor Luke Erickson, and his Dad, Dave Erickson, who will together share some key ways that dads and anyone with influence can help their kids and those they’re leading be shaped in the image of their heavenly father.
The Coronavirus has disrupted everything – and not just our life rhythms, schools, jobs, and the economy – it’s instilled more fear and uncertainty than we’ve ever seen in our lifetimes. It’s shaken us to the core. As a result, so many today are not just searching for toilet paper; we’re searching for meaning, for answers, for hope. We begin a new series of messages that will wrestle with some of the toughest questions we’re facing right now because of COVID-19. Why is this happening? How do we make sense of all the suffering? How do we find hope? Where’s God in all of it? What exactly does Christianity teach and what difference does it make right now? No one’s interested in the party-line, simplistic, “Sunday School” answers. Even though we have to keep six feet apart right now, let's come together for an important conversation to help us find our way when life doesn’t make sense.

We all tend to fall into one of three categories - one of three chairs - when it comes to our relationship with God. This affects everything else we do - and who we are. Come ready for an honest assessment which will lead each of us to answer the all-important question: "What chair am I in?"
What comes into your mind when you think about God is the most important thing about you. And what you believe about God is the most important factor in determining how you live your life – and how you go through tough times. In days like these more people than ever want to know “Where is God?” “What is God doing?” “What difference does God make?” By studying the names of God in the Bible, we can do more than learn about God. We can see God at work in the world and in our lives as a Way-maker, Promise-keeper, Provider, and Light in the Darkness... and proclaim, “My God…THAT is who you are!
