237: Marissa Young, Head Coach Duke Softball, visits The Coach Roges Show to preview the upcoming inaugural season for Duke Softball.  The Blue Devils will open the 2018 season on Feb. 8th in Boca Raton, Florida.  The team will face host Florida Atlantic twice as well as Ohio State, Michigan State and Boston University.  They will then head home to host the Big Ten/ACC Challenge Feb. 16-18 playing both Penn  State and Purdue twice.  ACC play will open for the Blue Devils Mar. 9-11 in Chapel Hill.  During ACC play, Duke will host Boston College, Louisville, Georgia Tech and Virginia and travel to Pitt, Notre Dame, and Virginia Tech.  Prior to coming to Duke, Young spent two years as an assistant coach at the University of North Carolina.  In the spring of 2015, Young helped the Tar Heels to a 37-16 overall record and a berth in the NCAA Tournament after the squad won 24 contests the prior season. 236: Beth Torina, Head Coach LSU Softball, visits The Coach Roges Show to preview the upcoming 2018 season for the Tigers.  The spring slate features 37 home contests at Tiger Park in a 56-game schedule, hosting games against 11 teams that were in last year’s NCAA tournament field. For the entire schedule, the Tigers will face a total of 22 opponents that appeared in the NCAA tournament field.  Coming off three-straight appearances in the Women’s College World Series, only one of two teams to claim that feat, LSU returns six positional starters and three pitchers from last year’s team that went 48-22 overall and 12-12 in the SEC.  The Tigers will host the Tiger Classic, Purple and Gold Challenge, LSU Invitational and the LSU Round Robin. 234:  Kelley Green, Head Coach, Coastal Carolina University, visits The Coach Roges Show to talk about the upcoming season for CCU.  This will be the first season for CCU as a member of the Sun Belt Conference.  Coastal holds a 21-16 overall record versus Sun Belt opponents facing off against four of the nine schools in program history -- Appalachian State, Georgia Southern, Georgia State and South Alabama. Six of those Sun Belt opponents finished the 2016 season among the NCAA Top 100 RPI.  The Chanticleers open the 2017 season at home on February 10th hosting its annual Kickin' Chicken Classic (Feb. 10-12) tournament. The field includes Alabama, Towson and Youngstown State.  The second weekend, Coastal hosts UNC Greensboro, Rider University and UMKC as part of the Battle at the Beach (Feb. 17-19).  The Chanticleers will open Sun Belt Conference play versus Texas State (Mar. 11-12). 233:  Corey Lyon, Head Coach, University Louisiana-Monore, visits The Coach Roges Show to talk about the upcoming season for the Warhawks.  We also release our 2017 Position for Position Top 10 SRs.  ULM will have 56 regular season games, which includes four non-conference tournaments and nine Sun Belt Conference series.  The season will start with three days of games in Monroe February 10-12.  The Warhawks will begin their conference schedule in March with their first Sun Belt Conference series against UT Arlington. The other conference teams that the Warhawks will face are Georgia Southern, Texas State, Coastal Carolina, Appalachian State, Troy, South Alabama, Georgia State and Louisiana-Lafayette for a total of 27 conference games.  The team qualified for the Sun Belt tournament the last two years finishing in the semifinals in 2015 and the quarterfinals in 2016. Both of those years, the teams were awarded the Sun Belt Conference Team GPA Award.  Those two years also produced 17 wins over teams with an RPI in the top 100 as well as one win versus a team with an RPI in the top 25. 230: Michael Lotief, Head Coach, Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns.  For the third consecutive season, and fourth time in the past five seasons, the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns softball team will host a NCAA Regional at Lamson Park after being awarded the No. 14 seed in the 2016 NCAA Softball Tournament.  The NCAA Lafayette Regional will feature the top-seeded Ragin' Cajuns (43-7), Texas A&M (37-18), Texas (37-14) and Boston University (28-22). The winner of the regional will play the winner of the NCAA Norman (Okla.) The Harrisonburg Regional will take place Friday, May 20-22 at Veterans Memorial Park. In this episode of Cowgirls Softball, Coach Gajewski and Coach Roges look back at Tulsa and UConn and discuss the Oklahoma Series.  OSU defeated Tulsa (1-0) and UCONN (8-0).  Against Tulsa, Freeze went the distance in the circle, allowing just two hits while striking out five to earn the win.  Needham went the distance in the circle against UCONN, allowing just one hit while striking out three to earn the victory. 217: Kenny Gajewski, Head Coach, Oklahoma State University.  In this episode of Cowgirls Softball, Coach Gajewski and Coach Roges recap games against Oklahoma and Texas Tech.  OSU went 0-4 this past week falling to Oklahoma (2-10) and then getting swept by Texas Tech (7-9, 18-19 and 7-8).Tiffany Mikkelson hit two home runs to break the school's career record in a 19-18 loss to Texas Tech at Rocky Johnson Field on Saturday. Lynch now has the second-longest streak in program history, second only to Shanel Scott. Scott produced a 17-game hit streak in 2005. Up Next: Oklahoma State stays on the road when it travels to Tulsa for a mid-week game. 216:  Jen McIntyre, Head Coach, UConn, visits TCRS.  Coach McIntyre will preview the upcoming series against the University of Central Florida.  The 2016 campaign is McIntyre's second with UConn.  After a mostly mild out of conference tournament schedule which slated games against LSU, South Carolina and Michigan State, the Huskies are ready to battle for the American Athletic Conference Regular Season Championship. 215: Kenny Gajewski, Head Coach, Oklahoma State University.  In this episode of Cowgirls Softball, Coach Gajewski and Coach Roges recap games against Wichita State University and Ole Miss.  OSU defeated Wichita State (8-2) in wich Kacey Freeze's ability to change speeds shined in her complete game not allowing a Shocker hit in the final three innings. 214: Kenny Gajewski, Head Coach, Oklahoma State University.  In this episode of Cowgirls Softball, Coach Gajewski and Coach Roges recap Missouri State and a three-game series against Houston.  Kacy Freeze (6-4) pitched a complete game and gave up just two hits in her second shutout of the season against Missouri State leading OSU to a (4-0) win. The performance was her fifth complete game of the year.  OSU was able to win the series against Houston after falling in game1 (9-10) OSU would defeat Houston (12-3) and (7-3).  During the Houston series, Shippy reached base for a team-high 22 consecutive games, Freshman Taylor Lynch continued her hitting streak, which now stands at nine games. 212: Tyra Perry, Head Coach, University of Illinois.  Perry, who is in her first year as head coach of the Fighting Illini currently has the team sitting at (12-7) on the season and has quality wins against Florida State, North Carolina and Tulsa.  Illinois next game will be March 15th at 2PM and will be a (DH) against IUPUI as well as the home opener at Eichelberger Field.  Tyra Perry was hired as the University of Illinois' second-ever head coach in June, 2015. She spent the previous 15 seasons as a NCAA Division I softball head coach, totaling 409 career victories as the head coach at Ball State, Western Kentucky, and Birmingham Southern. 211: Kenny Gajewski, Head Coach, Oklahoma State University.  In this episode of Cowgirls Softball, Coach Gajewski and Coach Roges recap games against Arkansas and Dartmouth.  OSU defeated Arkansas (10-7) and saw Lynch lead the way with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate, while Taylor and O'Donnell both contributed multi-RBI efforts.  OSU would split with Dartmouth winning (8-0) then falling (2-5).  In game Freeze allowed one base-hit to the Big Green in a complete game shutout. 209: Kenny Gajewski, Head Coach, Oklahoma State University.  In this episode of Cowgirls Softball, Coach Gajewski and Coach Roges take a look back at the Mary Nutter Classic where the Cowgirls faced San Diego State, Washington, Oregon, Cal State Fullerton and Michigan.  The highlight of the weekend was a 8-4 win over the Washington Huskies.  Against the Huskies, Lynch (2-for-4, 2 RBIs) and Mikkelson (2-for-4, HR, 3 RBIs) both shined.  On the night, the Cowgirls went 3-for-9 at the plate and produced six runs in two-out situations.  After entering the game, Freeze was responsible for closing out the final 2.1 innings. 208: Kristen Butler, Head Coach, University of Toledo.  Starting this Friday, Toledo will play in the JMU Dukes Invitational and will face Robert Morris, Saint Joseph's (2x), host James Madison University and Binghamton.  Coach Butler is in her second season at the helm in Toledo.  UT recorded higher batting averages, sligging percentages, home runs, stolen bases and other power numbers that landed her team in the Toledo record books.  The 2015 squad ranks second all-time in runs (231), RBIs (197) and stolen bases (105), third all-time in home runs (25) and fourth all-time in slugging percentage (.377). Butler came to Toledo after spending two seasons as an assistant coach at Charleston Southern, focusing primarily on pitching and catching duties. In 2014, Charleston Southern went to NCAA Regionals, and won the Big South Tournament. One of her pitchers, Cheyenne Gandara was named the MVP of the tournament. 192:  Courtney Oliver, Head Coach, East Carolina University, visits TCRS for the first time and for the first show of 2016.  Coach Oliver, a five-time NCAA Regional participant as an assistant coach, was appointed head softball coach at East Carolina University in June 2015. Oliver's hiring made her the fifth head coach in ECU softball program history.  Under Oliver's tutelage, the 2015 NC State pitching staff owned a team ERA of 2.61 to rank 34th in the nation and second in the ACC. 190: Former UL Ragin Cajun, Pitchers, Jordan Wallace and Christina Hamilton join TCRS. Wallace earned her 90th career win this season when the Ragin Cajuns defeated Baylor in the Regional Final becoming only the fourth pitcher in program history to reach 90 career wins joining Brooke Mitchell (119), Kyla Hall (104) and Ashley Brignac (94).  Wallace was also named NFCA First-Team All-Region and First-Team All-SBC this season.  Hamilton's best season was 2014 when she led the team to the Women's College World Series.  Hamilton also finished being named NFCA Second-Team All-American, NFCA First-Team All-Region and earned the James J. Games vs Maryland will be tonight at 4pm, Saturday at 2pm and Sunday at 1pm.  Sunday's game will air on BTN Plus. Coach Looper concluded her fourth season as the head coach for the University of Iowa softball program in 2014. 169: Megan Smith, Head Coach, Kansas Softball, visits TCRS to discuss upcoming games against Northern Colorado, Idaho State and Nebraska-Omaha at this weekend's Jayhawk Invitational.  During the 2014 season, Smith guided the Jayhawks back to the postseason with Kansas’ first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 2006. KU opened the Columbia Regional with a 3-1 upset over No. 19 Nebraska, which marked the second victory over a ranked opponent in 2014. The first win over a nationally-ranked foe was a 7-5 win over No. 8 Kentucky. The wins extended KU’s streak to five-straight seasons under Smith where the Jayhawks have defeated an opponent in the Top 25 polls. Kansas concluded its fifth season under Smith with a 34-23 record, which marked the fourth-straight 30-win season for the Jayhawks in the Smith era.

Kansas garnered several honors at the conclusion of the 2014 season. Sophomore shortstop Chaley Brickey was selected to the All-Big 12 Second Team for the second-straight year and was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region First Team, while junior first baseman Maddie Stein was named to the Big 12 All-Defensive Team. 148: Kim Schuette, Head Coach, Purdue, visits TCRS.  In 2014, Schuette led the Boilermakers to a sixth-place conference finish and the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals in her first season. Purdue went 27-28-1 including a 13-10 mark in conference play. The Boilers won five of their eight league series and posted three wins over Top 25 foes, downing No. 4 Michigan, No. 10 Texas and No. 12 Minnesota. The season, which saw the squad play 14 games against Top 25 foes and 14 opponents that advanced to the NCAA Regionals, also featured a no-hitter by junior Alex Whittemore and a program-best five All-Big Ten honorees. 146: Mike Candrea, Head Coach, Arizona, visits TCRS.  Coach Candrea enters his 30th season as the head coach of the University of Arizona softball team in 2015 and under his guidance reaching the pinnacle should once again underscore a record of success almost unparalleled by any program in any sport at any level.  He is one of the most respected coaches in the nation, with the accomplishments to supplement: eight national titles in 24 seasons, 21 trips to the Women’s College World Series in the last 25 seasons, 1,387 career victories, a mind-boggling career winning percentage of 80%, 52 All-Americans, four national players of the year and stewardship of Team USA to an Olympic gold medal, to name a few.

145: Holly Aprile, Head Coach, Pittsburgh, visits TCRS.  The 2014/2015 season for the Panthers sees the addittion of key transfer Jenna Modic a JR from Miami (OH) who will see both time in the circle and the infield.  Pitt. will also look for a big season from Shelby Pickett a RS JR who missed the 2014 season due to injury after transfering from Ohio State.   The 2013 campaign saw a program first as freshman Tori Nirschl was named the Big East Rookie of the Year. Nirschl is the first ever major award winner for the Pitt softball program, which includes Rookie, Player or Pitcher of the Year. 144: Trena Peel, Head Coach, UB, visits TCRS.  In her first season with the Bulls, Peel led UB to its first ever outright MAC East Division Title and the softball program was named UB's 2013-14 Team of the Year.  Despite being picked to finish last in the MAC East prior to the season, the Bulls finished the year with a school-record 30 victories and remained over .500 wire-to-wire. The team set offensive single-season records for batting average (.266), hits (367), doubles (71), triples (12), home runs (34), runs scored (236) and runs batted in (208).

Peel coached three UB players on to the All-MAC First Team following the season, a first for the Bulls.  In the circle, she coached Tori Speckman, who set UB records for single-season and career victories as well as single-season strikeouts with 228.  Speckman also threw two no hitters during the year. The Bulls shattered their single-season record with nine MAC Player of the Week recognitions.

143: Yvette Healy, Head Coach, Wisconsin, visits TCRS.  Yvette Healy begins her fifth season as head coach at Wisconsin in 2015, having just led the team to its second consecutive NCAA Regional Championship. Healy directed the team to the NCAA tournament in back-to-back seasons, which had only been done once before by UW in 2001 and 2002.

Over the last four years, the team has posted an impressive 144-75 overall record and 53-35 conference record in the Big Ten under Healy. Her .658 winning percentage ranks highest in school history.

At the end of the 2014 season, the Badgers finished in two final national polls for just the fourth time in the program's 19-year history and the second consecutive year. UW came in at No. 24 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25 and received votes in the USA Today/NFCA Top 25 for the eighth time in the season. Wisconsin finished the 2014 season at No. 32 in the NCAA Softball Ratings Percentage Index (RPI), after facing nine of the 31 teams who posted a higher RPI ranking.  

The 2014 season boasted the second-highest win total (36) in school history. The Badgers defeated six ranked opponents and tied with the 1997 team for the most top-25 wins in a season.

141: Shelly Hoerner, Head Coach, Georgia Tech, visits TCRS. In her first season on the Flats, Hoerner led the Yellow Jackets to a 23-24 record and an 11-17 ACC record (8th place). The season's highlights included series sweeps over conference foes Virginia and Maryland and a series victory against North Carolina on senior weekend. The 2014 club also notched a pair of wins over ranked opponents in Tulsa and Notre Dame.
