The Pequa Podcast is the Massapequa Public Library's teen-run podcast, where we talk about books, movies, TV shows, anime & more!
Like our previous episode, this one also has our teens “zooming” into the library to remotely record their thoughts and opinions along with Miss Lisa and Miss Pam.
On this episode we’re joined by Pequa Podcast veteran Victoria, as well as newcomer Leah. They chat about how they spent their summers... what school looks like these days... and what Halloween might look like this year.

With everyone still safe at home, an in-person podcast club meeting hasn’t been possible. But thanks to the wonders of technology, I’m very excited to present this episode featuring some of our teens. Our past few mini episodes with just me talking are not at all what the Pequa Podcast was meant to be, so it’s about time our teens got talking again. Fellow teen librarian Pamela and I hosted a virtual Podcast Club meeting and recorded the conversation. We touched on topics such as what they’ve been up to while safe at home, some ideas for virtual programs, and what school has been like during these interesting times.

- Borrow free digital movies, music and more with no late fees!
You can borrow up to eight titles a month, and the time starts from the moment a title is borrowed. There is automatic return, no late fees, and no waiting for items!
Here are the lending periods:
Audiobooks/eBooks/Comics/Graphic Novels - 21 days
Movies/Television - 3 days
And Music - 7 days
What’s great about Hoopla is that it works with Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Google Chromecast, Android and Amazon Alexa. There is also a Hoopla digital app available for iOS , Android , and Kindle Fire, and you can access Hoopla on your computer at hoopladigital.com.

With our buildings closed for everyone’s safety, we aren’t able to do our in-person programming right now. But, us librarians have been working hard behind the scenes to offer digital programming.

Instead of one of our typical episodes (if you can call any of them typical!), I wanted to pop in and let everyone know that even though our library buildings are closed..., the library is open. We have so many digital services that are available 24/7 from our website, www.massapequalibrary.org

Now, for digital services, my personal favorite is the Nassau Digital Doorway. You can access tons of ebooks and audiobooks by downloading the Libby app, or by visiting bit.ly/mpl-ebooks. While you’re at that link, you can also visit Hoopla, where you can read books and also stream TV and movies, as well as RBDigital, our home for digital magazines.
You’re going to need your library card number to access most of these services, but if you don’t have one, don’t worry! You can get a free digital card by visiting nassaulibrary.org/digital-card-application. These cards will last until June 30th. Today’s episode features the second part of the conversation I had with Pequa Podcaster Samantha, which we started in episode 16. In the first half of this episode we chat about how Samantha doesn’t have social media and how that affects her life. We also dig into the darker side of social media like bullying and hacking, and we transition into why it’s important to be aware of what’s going on in your life.
After a quick break, we finish up the conversation with how Samantha does best in school, perfectionism, why you shouldn’t change your answers on tests, and how embracing distractions helps Samantha remember things.

Today’s episode and our next episode are going to be a bit different than what we’ve had before. With the recent holidays taking over much of our time, we didn’t have a big group to record with recently. Instead, Pequa Podcaster Samantha sat down with me and had a chat. The conversation spans a lot of topics, but the two parts on today’s episode will go into living with siblings, things going on at school such as square dancing, maybe failing gym, finishing projects no matter what, and the in's and out's of detention and attendance. I am very excited for this episode because we had another great group conversation. In fact, it was our biggest conversation yet, featuring SIX Pequa Podcasters. But first we’re going to kick the episode off with a message from Victoria about a local animal shelter, and then we’ll hear about Caroline’s new BTS obsession. After, you’ll get to hear the group segment which features topics such as the positive and negatives of school, homecoming, how to make money (which may or may not involve going to school), some life goals (which include starting a business and going to a BTS concert), math and music, some more BTS, Tik-Tok, and couponing.
As you can probably imagine, it’s a long segment, so I’ll be breaking in somewhere in the middle to tell you about an important libray-related issue.
