Our young producers led this radio sound FX (Foley) production workshop showing participants how to record bones being crushed, flesh ripped, footsteps and fire with pasta, celery, tomatoes, cat litter and plastic bags!

Produced by Oldway On Air students. Students explored what they get out of their schools working with cultural organisations. They also asked teachers what they had got out of the conference and what they want from local organisations.
Media Studies A’Level students from Preston Manor High School produced these dramatic radio advertisements for their coursework. Each group produced three for three different stations thereby exploring how media language works for different target audiences.
We ran 5 Gifted and Talented communicator radio summer schools at the Preston Manor City Learning Centre (Brent, London) with students from 7 local secondary schools. Students visited community stations and the BBC Radio Theatre and produced their own live magazine show which included making a feature about something they were interested in. We worked with Soundart Radio, The Grove, Totnes, South Dartmoor Community College, KEVICC, Paignton Community College, Bidwell Brook and Dartmouth Academy running workshops in creative radio making culminating in the students taking over Soundart Radio for 2 days in summer 2012. Students made soundmaps of their schools and 3D dramas. This 3D piece was made by students from Dartmouth Academy and you must wear headphones to get the full effect.
As part of Speak Up, a south devon cross-school radio project, students made a sound map of their school designed to help year 6s from feeder schools feel more confident about going there.

We twinned Gifted and Talented communicators from Brent, Southwark and Wiltshire to produce and interact with live talk radio shows. We worked with the BBC and watched the young people develop their synthesis skills under pressure.
Chamber Challenge is a primary school music project devised by Wigmore Hall Learning and taking place in schools in Torbay in partnership with the Arts at Dartington, Torbay Music Hub, South West Music School and Sound Communities.
The ‘Chamber Challenge’ is for a primary school class to write a piece of music which they will perform themselves alongside a professional string quartet in a performance at their school at the end of the project.
We worked with the National Youth Theatre and the BBC to produce an online radio drama which could resource the teaching of Citizenship in an engaging way. Students from Preston Manor High School and Copland Communtiy College (Brent, London) worked to devise, perform and produce 6 episodes. This extract is from the episode exploring homelessness for young people.
Sound Communities has an advisory board compiled of members of the community with a variety of expertise who kindly advise the company on strategies and ideas to take the company forward. The advisory board first met in February 2013 and since then have met three times a year.
Twelve Year 10 students from St Cuthbert Mayne School spent a week learning how to record, edit, present and interview for radio. They then chose a "Human Book" to take out and interviewed them about their career paths. This culminated in a live broadcast on Soundart Radio with students presenting their interviews, music and other content too. This project was funded by Aimhigher.
