If you voted for Hillary Clinton or Joe Biden (or for any democrat for that matter), you might have been lectured about the need to understand the ‘other side’; their economic anxiety yada yada. They also tell you that the other side is the real America (as if if you vote anti-Republican, you are not an American.)
Here is Tom Nichols’ (a Republican) a rebuttal to that.
Dennis, when you say “it behooves to be deeper in our understanding,” you say this as if the Trump cult is some unique tribe that requires our compassion and understanding, and not exactly what they are telling us they are.
But more to the point, why is it always a plea for us to understand them? Why is it always one way? Why is there never a plea – or demand – to people in rural Indiana to say: “Listen, you better start understanding the 100 million Americans who aren’t like you.”
I’m so fcking tired of people going to rural Wisconsin like anthropologists on a field trip. Take those same people from Oshkosh and put them on a bus to Boston or LA and say: “You better learn about these people. They’re your fellow citizens and they way outnumber you.”*
And just to continue this rant a little more: These Trump voters did not spend a lot of time saying “You know, the inner cities are a mess, and people there seem desperate and unhappy. I wonder why. Maybe I should understand them more.” Instead, they said: Fck those cities.*
They didn’t give a rat’s ass if NYC melted through the earth’s crust; in fact, they reveled in it. They went to see “Escape From New York” and snorted about how Real America was better. They didn’t want to hear about the inner city, because that was a “culture” problem.
But now that poor whites apparently have the same “culture” problem that poor urban blacks did – persistent joblessness, unmarried moms, drugs – suddenly it’s all national goddamn emergency because it’s in Ohio instead of New York (which is doing just fine, now).
Do you see why I’m not really interested in endless hand-wringing about the inherent niceness of people who never cared that much about million of their own fellow citizens and then voted for a cruel, stupid racist? I think their beliefs are pretty obvious.
“I am traveling to Bumblefck and East Jesus to interview Real Americans, because the 50 million people who live between Boston and DC are outliers and weirdos who have nothing in common with the authentic 5000 people in this hamlet.”*
But you see the problem, right? 5000 people in a small town are Real America; 50 million in BOS/NYC/DC are just visitors or imposters. The GOP and Trump spoon-fed us this narrative and too many in the media accepted it.
Question by @dcherring
Tom, what percentage of Trump’s 74mil voters do u reckon voted from the primary motivation to hurt someone else?
Tom’s reply:
Way, way too many of them. Right-populism and the nationalist streak that goes with it is cruel and other-directed, not just in the United States, but the UK, Italy, Poland, Hungary, many other places.
In Poland, for example, anti-Muslim feeling is running super-high. But the punch line? There are almost no Muslims in Poland. It’s a scapegoating of other people for things Poles worry about. As @AdamSerwer once said of Trumpism: The cruelty is the point.
Read the new book by @anneapplebaum about democracy being on the ropes. It’s not about honest, hard-working people fearing for their way of life. It’s a nasty virus that is spreading in places where life isn’t really all that bad.
I know we want to believe our fellow citizens voted as if they are just making a civic decision about what’s best for America. I think that was a legit way to view 2016. I think there is almost no way to view Trump’s voters in 2020 that way.
I will quickly stipulate here that the left has a brutish authoritarian streak in it, and that there are millions of good people who might have voted for Trump out of foolishness or delusion, and millions who voted for Biden who are horrible citizens and dangerous to America.
But the insane Left does not control the Democratic Party, and the totalitarian streak among the liberals is still mostly stupid college kids and their professors, along with hucksters in the HR departments. Joe Biden isn’t that.
In short, I think it’s time to stop trying to see the good in the most loyal Trump voters. The media has been tromping around diners for five years looking for the spark of goodness and civic virtue in them, and it isn’t there. We just have to accept that, imo.
I also think it’s time for the Trump voters to start thinking about understanding the rest of America, instead of it always being this one-way street of understanding and compassion. They’re the new minority. They might think harder about why others feel about them as we do.
I’m not arguing for hating on every Trump voter. But I think over four years, we’ve run out of excuses for viewing them as somehow anxious or misunderstood or “just plain folks who want a fair deal” and all that shit. Those arguments, imo, are unsustainable.
PS: This is Maureen Dowd’s Trumper brother. Read this and tell me that this is not basically just an old white guy who thinks the world doesn’t love him enough.

Election-related news:
A Federal Judge admonished Trump & Louis DeJoy were “involved in a politically motivated attack on the efficiency of the Postal Service.” Later in the day he issued an injunction United States Postal Service (Washington Post). The suit, filed by Washington and 13 other states, sought a broad injunction prohibiting the Postal Service from implementing operational changes, distribution center closures and removal of mail-sorting machines, among other changes, absent an opinion by the Postal Regulatory Commission.

| First, a few thoughts on the late-breaking news on Wednesday. Attorney General Barr said that ‘as the nation’s top law enforcement official, he had the right to intervene in investigations and to overrule career lawyers, castigating his own department and attacking what he described as politically motivated inquiries’ (NY Times). There is more… * He is pushing his prosecutors to bring sedition charges against Black Lives Matter protesters. * He raised the issue of charging Seattle Mayor in connection with losing control over an 8-block section of Seattle. * He said that Coronavirus lockdowns are the ‘greatest intrusion on civil liberties’ other than slavery in US history. * He referred to DOJ prosecutors as preschool kids * He essentially said that FBI agents are his own personal agents. * Also, don’t forget that he never called out the accused killer of CA cops’ and his connection to the rightwing malitia, Boogaloo Movement (Forbes).

NY Times:
On March 1, the day after the first coronavirus death in the United States was announced, brothers Matt and Noah Colvin set out in a silver S.U.V. to pick up some hand sanitizer. Driving around Chattanooga, Tenn., they hit a Dollar Tree, then a Walmart, a Staples and a Home Depot. At each store, they cleaned out the shelves.
Over the next three days, Noah Colvin took a 1,300-mile road trip across Tennessee and into Kentucky, filling a U-Haul truck with thousands of bottles of hand sanitizer and thousands of packs of antibacterial wipes, mostly from “little hole-in-the-wall dollar stores in the backwoods,” his brother said. “The major metro areas were cleaned out.”

Earlier, the Welt am Sonntag German newspaper reported that U.S. President Donald Trump had offered funds to lure CureVac to the United States, and the German government was making counter-offers to tempt it to stay.
There was no comment immediately available from the U.S. embassy in Berlin when contacted by Reuters over the report.
….
Welt am Sonntag also quoted an unidentified German government source as saying Trump was trying to secure the scientists’ work exclusively, and would do anything to get a vaccine for the United States, “but only for the United States.”

Psychopaths do what psychopaths do.
For years I’ve not been posting on this site. That’s about to change. For about 6 weeks I’ve been posting regularly on Facebook, which is essentially garbage. Facebook, that is. I will repost them again here by stamping them to the day. In the mean time, this morning I posted the following on my Facebook page.
For your health concerns, talk to your doctor. For your financial health, don’t reach out to a 30 something financial genius who has never seen a recession or a bear market. I suggest you read this.
I’ve been following financial markets for nearly 30 years (hence the reference to “30-years industry” in one of my earlier posts). I made good money trading stocks during one recession (2001) and lost quite a bit during the 2008 financial crisis. I read a lot on finance, economy and other topics that are boring to most people. Before 2009, I got it right more often than I got it wrong (reverse is true since 2009). In fact, I pretty much nailed the 2008 financial crisis by giving early warning to the listers of my radio show MMGL. Early listeners of the show can attest to this. I have no vested interest in any of the things I say here. I just want to share my thoughts and hope it will help a few. Take what I m saying for what its worth.
I believe Coronavirus has already caused a global economic catastrophe. A global recession is underway. Jobs will be lost. Life gets difficult. Save the savings. Save more. Be prepared for financially tough times. Do not speculate in financial markets. An average person stands no chance to make money trading in these volatile markets.
Trump and his presidency are total disasters even before Coronavirus arrived. (Everything Trump touches, dies.) Many of us have realized from day 1 that the emperor has no clothes. As David Frum said in his Twitter feed yesterday, “Trump world is in that phase when the sucker begins to suspect that he has been scammed by the time-share company. Naturally, the sucker’s anger first turns against everyone who warned against buying the timeshare ..”
In the short term, the liquidity injections by Fed (the $1.5 trillion announced this week and $1 trillion has already been dispensed) not only act as cushion for market drops, they could also cause rip-roaring rallies. I expect a rally this week. I won’t trust those rallies. In the long run, a sustained rebound in stocks is dependent on economic recovery. An economic recovery will happen slowly, not suddenly. Definitely not when people are living in fear like they are now. I don’t know what future holds. But I can tell you this much, this looks and feels much much worse than 2008 financial crisis. Back then the central banks had some credibility left. We had competent and honest teams in the White House (yes, even during GWB presidency). Not now.
Be careful with your health and wealth. Very careful.

So I quit my job as a lecturer and joined in Journalism in the year 1996.
During my tenure in journalism, I realized that instead of feature writing, life writing is the need of the hour and being a responsible Journalist, took-up this endeavor as a mission and started writing on the unsung heroes in detail since 2001. You know, Journalism is called literature in hurry but that itself satisfied my creative hunger in the beginning and paved me a way to become a writer of my own kind i.e. Ordinarology.
I believed that each man is worth a book by himself and felt that at first, some essays to be written as preface to their lives. Later I could work on their life in a big way. With this idea, I have concentrated all my energies into writing and since 2003, began publishing books one by one.
You know, I never see my activity as mere profession but realized that it is my life activity and have been enriching day by day. That is why I could see these people’s activity so special and saying that each man worth a book. They appear ordinary but physically, psychologically and spiritually they are sound. Each one is unique in his thoughts and deeds. They have their own philosophy in life. And you know, they are majority in the society but ignored in the mainstream media. And each story thought me a lesson and I became one for the common man. Inspired by their selfless work, generosity and the values they strive, I enlarged my canvas to portray their life with a lot of passion and dedication. That is why I have written and published twelve books so far and still working to publicize their existence with much more vigour.
As I said, I began my career as a trainee reporter and in fourteen years of tenure in the field of Journalism, I have worked for print and electronic media, now grown into the position of a special correspondent for television channels in my area of interest. I have produced two important reality shows, one for NTV (Mee Jayasudha) in 2008 and another for Sakshi TV (Sakshi salam) in 2009-10 besides writing books. And you know, the content of these TV programmes was nothing but the importance of the ordinary beings, their immense contribution in shaping the modern India. Of course, now I have resigned to the Sakshi TV and working on a book that deals with the life and times of the celebrated photo-journalist Raghu Rai.

GOP may have lost at the polls in November, but Republicans are marching forward with their caustic rhetoric and bankrupt ideology. Case in point: Michigan. Governor Rich Snyder and his GOP friends pulled a Godfatherly stunt on Unions in Michigan. In this segment, Prof. Mohan focused the discussion on “right-to-work” laws and the manner in which MI Governor enacted this law in MI seriously. This is essentially the Koch brothers and Sheldon Adelsons want. They paid for it. And they got it.
Screw you, the average voter. A majority in this country may be the middle class or poor, but GOP is for the rich, by the rich.

When QE3 was announced, I wrote:
The most powerful institution in this country is neither the Office of the President, nor the Congress nor the Supreme Court – it is the Federal Reserve Board and a band of unelected economists who live in and breathe in a la la land. The Congress can get bogged down with endless debates about spending a million dollars on Public Radio. It might be an enormous effort for the president to get a few millions for discretionary spending. As far as the Federal Reserve system is concerned – there are no limits to what they can do. They are not bound by the electoral politics or repercussions of their stupidity. Bernanke just announced QE3.
That was just four short months ago. Scratch QE3. Now we have QE4, which by its very existence tells you that QE1-QE3 were failures. What Bernanke is telling you is, “It didn’t work before, but we are sure it will work now.” Much the same way a guy who is addicted to gambling keeps going back to the table to play more and regain his lost $$$.

A little over a half a century ago, a Russian immigrant to US wrote a couple of novels, i.e. pieces of fiction, with a philosophy that would put “rational” self interest above everything else. This philosophy in “Atlas Shrugged” was widely criticized as an “intellectual cover” to the age old notion called greed. Furthermore, this philosophy measures accomplishment purely in the “monetary” metrics and attributes that “success” to one individual without regard to the people who helped in that “successful” pursuits. And then there is this complete and unqualified vilification of Government.
John Galt, the hero of “Atlas Shrugged”, finally refuses to play by the “rules” of the Government. He and his fellow “producers” walks out on the “parasites,” and adopts the communist/labor union technique called “going on strike.” This Galt-style lockout has a unique phrase of its own called, “going Galt.”
After the 2012 elections, several corporate CEOs in USA have declared their intentions to “go Galt” and fire their employees because Obama won the election against their best effort to buy the election through the super PACs they generously funded. TV blowhard pundits like Bill O’Reilly have their own twisted logic to justify this lunacy. In this segment, I talked about this Ayn Rand philosophy in play in the post-2012 election scene in America.

* Nothing new here. Just resurfacing an old podcast for more exposure *
A coherent arrangement of words for abstract, but cogent thoughts is what touches us. It doesn’t matter if the central idea is about life and love; or death and sorrow – the language can still touch our hearts. That is the power of language – possibly any language. The language for romance and love, some say, is Urudu. For me, it is Telugu. The beauty of Telugu language can be seen, heard and felt in written and spoken words and verses.
How does it feel like to be in love? For that matter what is love? Is love a tangible thing or an abstract idea? Is love merely a self reinforcing feeling where liking and/or attraction become strong and turned into something inexplicable, and therefore you love? I don’t know the answer to that, but I do know this for sure: love is beyond simple physical attraction. Whatever may be its final manifestation, love germinates from an inexplicable liking to an idea, a thought about the person it is targeted at. It doesn’t matter if that person is real or simply fictional (raakumaari leka raakumaarudu).
When I was about 18, I loved somebody. That somebody is a work of fiction. To be more precise, she is a dead character in a novel. I am sure it is not just me. The words the author used to describe her thoughts made many teenage boys of my generation to fall in love with an “idea” called Ramya.
If your husband is in his 40s, and if he is (or was) in the habit of reading Telugu fiction, ask him if he read Yandamuri’s vennello aadapilla when he was a teenager. If he did, ask him how he liked Ramya’s character. Most men probably won’t be able to express or won’t admit it, but I can speak for many of them: they loved (the idea and mind of) Ramya.
This podcast is my rendering of Ramya’s last letter. Listen to the podcast and rediscover your love for Telugu language. And then get back into the habit of reading more in Telugu.

A good chunk of American electorate are ‘single issue’ voters. At the top of the list of issues are taxes, abortion and guns. Regardless of their own beliefs, politicians – especially GOP politicians – say whatever those single issue voters want to hear. If they have to redefine such a horrible thing as ‘rape’ to pander to those those voters, these shameless politicians do it. Recently Todd Aikin, Steven King, Richard Murdoch, Joe Walch and a bunch of others made utterly stupid and insensitive comments in qualifying ‘rape.’

In this segment, I talked about a couple of bizarre workplace experiences of mine which involved a few people I worked with. The first involved money laundering, bribery, FBI, Grand Jury, sentencing, murder-suicide and arson.
Summary of the case (from DOT website)
FHWA Contractor Pleads Guilty to Bribery, Money-Laundering October 06, 1998
Summary
Alberto Santiago, a former Federal Highway Administration official who resigned while under investigation, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Santiago, of Herndon, VA, was charged with conspiracy, bribery, and money-laundering; he faces up to 40 years in prison and $1 million in fines. Sentencing is pending. An OIG investigation, jointly carried out with the FBI, disclosed that between 1993 and 1997 Santiago solicited and received more than $150,000 in cash and money orders from government contractors over whom he had official responsibility, letting them submit fraudulent invoices to reimburse themselves for the illicit payments. In a related case, Hobih Chen, owner of the Viggen Corp. of Sterling, VA, pleaded guilty to conspiracy, bribery and money-laundering. Chen’s firm was among those alleged to have paid bribes to Santiago. He faces up to 5 years’ imprisonment and $250,000 in fines. The investigation continues, and an audit of the facility where Santiago worked is under way.
The fallout from case – 10 years later (Washington Post article).
HERNDON
Man Killed Wife, Then Set Herndon Home Afire, Police Believe By Tom Jackman Washington Post Staff Writer
Saturday, April 4, 2009; 11:49 PM The identities of a married couple whose bodies were discovered inside their burning home in Herndon early Thursday were confirmed yesterday by Fairfax County police. Investigators believe that the husband stabbed his wife to death and then set their home on fire.
Ho Bih Chen, 55, and his wife, Chi-Lin Chen, 55, had raised their two children in the house on Eddyspark Drive, in the Kingstream neighborhood near Fairfax County Parkway, that they bought in 1987. Their children, a daughter who is a freshman in college and an older son, were not home when the fire was discovered by neighbors shortly before 4 a.m.
Although the fire was raging through the second floor of the colonial house when firefighters arrived, it did not take them long to extinguish the blaze, and they soon found the Chens’ bodies. Not long after the embers had cooled, fire marshals quickly determined that the blaze had been ignited from inside the house and almost certainly by one of the Chens.
An autopsy Friday revealed that Chi-Lin Chen died of stab wounds to the upper body, police said. Detectives theorize that Ho Bih Chen stabbed his wife and then torched the house, Officer Tawny Wright said. Police declined to discuss a motive for the apparent murder-suicide or the family’s financial situation. Someone, possibly Ho Bih Chen, had moved two of the family’s vehicles away from the home before the fire, and they were found elsewhere in the Kingstream neighborhood, Wright said. Sources familiar with the case said the vehicles contained some of the family’s personal belongings and documents. (Full article)
The second case involved my former boss. He was forced out from the firm for inappropriate conduct. Later he was caught and convicted for possession of child pornography. In my 2+ years of interaction with him has mostly been positive and therefore I never suspected him of doing this. Bizarre world!
I also talked about the circumstances and the decision process for my career change.

In this segment I talked about the 2012 VP debate, Jack Welch’s infamous tweet and the rank bizarreness of Republican congressional candidates.
Jack Welch’s, the loser, wrote a book about winning. Or, in his up-side-down world his definition of winning is different? now infamous tweet:
Unbelievable jobs numbers..these Chicago guys will do anything..can’t debate so change numbers
I cannot say that Jack knows Jack about cooking books. In fact he knows a thing or two about cooking books. In the 1990s I used to follow many big name companies and their executives, their compensations etc closely. Many of the earnings reports were suspect. A couple of large companies were very prominent among them: GE (Welch) and IBM (Lou Gerstner). Quoting the Big Picture blog…
Of all the people who have something to say about the BLS, none is more unintentionally ironic than former GE CEO Jack Welch.
I have long stated that Jack welch was one of the luckier, more wildly over-compensated CEOs around. He became CEO of General Electric in 1981, just before an 18 year bull market in big cap stocks began. he left in 2001, just as the market implosion was getting rolling.
GE’s revenues grew 385% under his watch, but the company’s market cap grew 4000%. How did that happen? GE increased earnings over the years, and with stunning regularity, managed a quarterly profit beat.
According to many, there is no question that Welch cooked books while he was CEO at GE. They say it take one to know one. In that sense, is Welch right? Or, simply paranoid. Yesterday, it got better. The ex CEO of AIG agreed with Welch. Remember him – the guy whose boo-cooking recipes at AIG nearly brought the entire western financial system to total collapse, and destroyed 50% of world’s wealth in 2008?)
We will also talk about VP debate and more. My immediate assessment of the debate: VP Biden looked passionate, feisty and well prepared. Congressman Ryan was evasive, preachy and cocky.

This segment (in Telugu) relies on the arguments put-forth in the Matt Taibbi’s Rolling Stone article: This Presidential Race Should Never Have Been This Close
Romney is an almost perfect amalgam of all the great out-of-touch douchebags of our national cinema: he’s Gregg Marmalaard from Animal House mixed with Billy Zane’s sneering, tux-wearing Cal character in Titanic to pussy-ass Prince Humperdinck to Roy Stalin to Gordon Gekko (he’s literally Gordon Gekko). He’s everything we’ve been trained to despise, the guy who had everything handed to him, doesn’t fight his own battles and insists there’s only room in the lifeboat for himself – and yet the Democrats, for some reason, have had terrible trouble beating him in a popularity contest.
The fact that Barack Obama needed a Himalayan mountain range of cash and some rather extreme last-minute incompetence on Romney’s part to pull safely ahead in this race is what really speaks to the brokenness of this system. Bruni of the Times is right that the process scares away qualified candidates who could have given Obama a better run for all that money. But what he misses is that the brutal campaign process, with its two years of nearly constant media abuse and “gotcha” watch-dogging, serves mainly to select out any candidate who is considered anything like a threat to the corrupt political establishment – and that selection process is the only thing that has kept this race close.

NFL Referee dispute and its subsequent resolution is a proxy for the battle of ideologies. If you want to know how quickly people abandon their ideology when the outcome is not in their favor, look no further than the union-busting, Koch brother lapdog Governor Scott Walker. Walker walked back on his ‘anti-union’ stance because he couldn’t sleep as Green Bay’s win was robbed by the less qualified referees appointed by the NFL owners. Guess what, Green Bay is a people-owned team.

Habits like reading, writing, listening to music, watching movies and hanging out with buddies takes a backseat. It is quite understandable to give in to that kind of pressure. Making patients, who are destined to wheelchair walk again, is a huge task. And in such circumstances, its usually tough to stay in touch with ones creative side, dabble in writing or pursue other creative activities. Even with this tight schedule, Dr. Gurvareddy made this Interview possible. Listener will enjoy this podcast thoroughly. A few excerpt from the Interview.
“I read for at least 45 minutes before going to bed. It has been a lifelong habit. Reading helps me unwind and prepare for the rigours of the next day”
“I dont work in weekends because that ill when I pursue my other passions. I have read almost all the works of Yandamuri Veerendranath, Mullupudi Venkat Ramana and Bapu, During my formative years, I was a big fan of James Handley Chase. At Guntur Medical College, I used to contribute a lot to the college magazine”
“I share a special relationship with my patients. Thanks to my profession. I regularly get to meet writers like Bapu and Mullapudi Venkat Ramana, actors, music directors and other celebrities, I am planning to organize regular interaction sessions between them and normal patients. This will spread joy among patients admitted to the hospitals“

The following are tips Dr. Jandhyla would like to share with you on maintaining a heart-healthy lifestyle.
The extra fat we carry is just not worth it. You will be in a better place for living healthy and it is actually enjoyable.
You have to understand and buy in to it. You will then enjoy the process.
Few simple things:
- The diet should have around 45% carbohydrates/sugars ( Low glycemic index and complex carbohydrates), 30% fats ( mostly unsaturated fats ) and around 20 to to 25% protein.
- While trying to shed extra fat, keep your total calories as close to 1500 as possible and move as much as possible. This process has to be enjoyable or it would not last.
- Enjoy your food. Take small bites and chew for 9 seconds. Take time to eat.
- Drink plenty of water.
- Eat frequently.
- Oats like steel cut oats from Trader Joe’s with almond will be great for break fast.
- Do not go more than 3 to 4 hours without eating and drinking. Have an apple between BF and Lunch and Lunch and Dinner or some nuts like almonds or walnuts.
- Cut down on simple carbohydrates like white rice, white bread, white pasta.
- Avoid Saturated fats, trans fats, salt.
- Enjoy your food and eat less.
- Incorporate whole grains, fruits and nuts like almonds, walnuts and fresh veggies. Foods closer to their natural state. Half the plate should be veggies and fruit.
- Eat more steamed or boiled food with less oil.
- Eat chicken and fish- white meat avoid foods with a lot of gravy.
- Exercise like walking at least 30 Min’s a day is a must.
- Cut down starchy foods, processed foods like chips which have a lot of salt and oil.
- Avoid baked foods like cookies, cakes, pastries, desserts. They are are like bombs packed with calories saturated and trans fats.
- Keep moving.
You have an opportunity to make your family and friends healthier by being an inspiration. Knowledge is power. I will share what ever I learn. I am not an expert just an interested observer. Take care it is worth it.

Tharanga-NATA Swaramadhuri – Episode 3; Part 1 of 3
Date of Broadcast: April 22, 2012
Hosts: Srinivas Chennuri, Singer Jaya and Music Guru Ramachari
On the April 13th MMGL Show (in Telugu language) on Tharanga Media, I mentioned the political tactics of Carl Rove where he makes the opponent’s strength into weakness and finds cunning ways to discredit the true negative stories on his own candidate. I talked extensively about how CBS news’ legendary anchor Dan Rather’s career was destroyed because Rather featured on his evening news a fake memo about Bush being AWOL.
I am among the many who really believe that while the memo was fake, the story was true. Well, an article in the May issue of Texas Monthly goes in to details about this story. It was an eerie coincidence that I talked about this very same subject just three days before the news about this article broke out.
Eight years ago, Dan Rather broadcast an explosive report on the Air National Guard service of President George W. Bush. It was supposed to be the legendary newsman’s finest hour. Instead, it blew up in his face, tarnishing his career forever and casting a dark cloud of doubt and suspicion over his reporting—and that of every other journalist on the case. This month, as Rather returns with a new memoir, Joe Hagan finally gets to the bottom of the greatest untold story in modern Texas politics, with exclusive, never-before-seen details that shed fresh light on who was right, who was wrong, and what really happened.
Is there any question that Tharanga listeners are the most informed among the listeners of Telugu internet radio shows? LOL!
Listen to the audio bit from my April 13th show on this subject.

July 8, 2011 insert: Perhaps one of the most frequently visited ‘topics’ by RJs is, “Which is better – arranged marriage or love marriage?” Like everybody, I too have an opinion about it. However, I avoided discussing this topic on my shows. For, it is a complicated topic. My off-beat thinking gives less credence to heart and places more value on practical approach. I will leave the debate to youth, which claim to be an expert on this subject (joke, folks, joke) and leave you with these pensive thoughts about love in general.
This is a continuation to What is Love, Part 1. In this part I talked about about Celebrity crush. The poll mentioned in this podcast, Lost in Desert was taken by 170 people who were split evenly between males and females. Here is a summary of the poll.
.
What do you think of these results? Do they make sense to you?

February 14th is around the corner. We can’t escape hearing about it. I don’t know if Valentine’s Day is necessary for expressing and celebrating ‘love.’ Before we can even think of expressing love, don’t we have to understand what ‘love’ means in the first place? In this special, I tried to bring a philosophical view point on what it means by “love.” Whether you agree with my take or not, after listening to this you might say, “Hmmm. That is interesting. ”
Lost in Desert: Here is the link to the poll I conducted as a part of this show. The poll essentially asks the following:
A couple and their 7 year old son are lost in the midst of a desert in mid summer. They are on foot. No water, no food and nary a person to help them. They continued their trek for two days with the hope of finding some food and help. As they begin losing their senses, the adults started blaming each other for their situation. The only thing kid is saying is “I am thirsty. I am hungry.” And he is refusing to walk along. They they found a bottle with one gulp of water and piece of bread good for one bite. The persons who don’t get that food and drink are expected to die.
How would you behave in this situation?
The results of the poll, is shown in part 2 of this post: What is Love (2 of 2)?

AZUMI SAYS JAPAN INTERVENED IN THE CURRENCY MARKET
AZUMI: JAPAN WILL CONTINUE TO INTERVENE UNTIL HE’S SATISFIED
AZUMI SAYS INTERVENTION WAS DUE TO STRONG SIGNS OF SPECULATION
Japanese Finance Minister Jun Azumi said on Monday that Japan will take decisive action on excessive and speculative foreign exchange moves and that he did not believe the strong yen, at less than 76 per dollar, reflected economic fundamentals. He added that the strong yen would have a major impact on Japan’s export sector, especially the auto industry, and could dent Japan’s economic recovery after the March 11 disaster. Read more:
AZUMI: JAPAN WILL CONTINUE TO INTERVENE UNTIL HE’S SATISFIEDచూసారా?

Very often, listeners ask me about the origins of TORi, I get a lot of questions about how TORi started, some behind the scenes operations, and about myself. A regular listener, Rani posed a bunch of such questions to me on my own show. The result is this “interview.” Hope this answers many questions.

I admit it, this particular podcast is a bit self-serving. However, the critical nature of Ranga Prasad’s feedback is impressive. I could not pass-up the opportunity for a bit of self promotion and a public pat on the back for my TORi team.

In an interview with a NY radio station, Mayor Bloomberg mentioned that a revolution will be coming to US soon if the jobs situation doesn’t change quickly.
.
.
Well, it took less than two weeks for a leaderless, mostly unorganized, protests under the banner “Occupy Wall Street” hit the streets of the City for which he is the mayor. He himself became the first elected official to deal with the protestors. Some in his police force brutalized the peaceful crowd. (See my earlier post: And so it Began)
Tomorrow these protests enter week 2. It appears that the support for the movement is growing and spreading to other cities. Today in Boston about 3000 people protested against Bank of America. Twenty four arrested. In NY city, crowds blocked Brooklyn Bridge, and hundreds were arrested. [Keep in mind 3 years after the Lehman bankruptcy, till today not even a single bank executive was arrested for his/her actions that caused banks to collapse, people to lose jobs, life savings evaporate into thin air.]
No, I don’t think this is the “pitchforks and torches” moment yet. But, it appears that this movement has some legs. We have to wait and see.
On related matter – for a few months, I have been writing on the topic of revolutions on this blog (here and here). On my Sept 30th internet radio show, a caller asked me about this subject. Here is my response (in Telugu language).
What is education? Does getting a degree means one got education? How do we acquire knowledge? Through curriculum? Professors? Learning environment? Our own motivation? What makes some institutions great? Why do students from certain institutions come out as the best? What is the virtual cycle of education (per my definition)? Take a listen.

Lightning Storm in Petrified Forest National Park, AZ
I haven’t had much chance to post something about the market action last week. To say the least, even in the face of extremely bearish news, at the outset it looks bizarre to see markets gain for each of the five trading days last week. Two things that explain this: a) triple witching options expiry; and b) extreme short-covering.
What’s in store for the next four weeks?
Storm clouds are everywhere. The situation in Europe is precarious. Contrary to the joint statement by Merkel, Sarcozy and Greece PM assuring investors that Germany and France are committed to helping Greece, there is speculation that Greece will default on Sept 20. What happens if Greece defaults? Hasn’t it already been priced in? No so fast, my young apprentice! Well, read this (via Zero Hedge).
And then there were more ominous developments in Europe over the weekend.
Today:
At pixel time, USD/EUR opened 100pips lower on fears of Greek default this week
STRAUSS-KAHN SAYS GREECE CAN’T PAY BACK ITS DEBTS
Yesterday:
“In 2008, governments could intervene to sort out the problems of banks. In 2011, banks have problems, but so too do governments.” ….
“We’ve now got the interplay between banks that are not properly capitalized and sovereign debt problems that have arisen partly because we’ve socialized or accepted responsibility for the banks’ liabilities.” ….
The EFSM is “not enough” and “substantially more resources” are required.
Last Week:
In and Out of Each Other’s European Wallets

My final comment:
The next four-five weeks can see tumultuous action in financial markets. I believe the much awaited QE3 will be here this week, a short-lived stock rally will follow, which is then followed by a waterfall decline in stocks. Yes, gold could see an ugly sell off!
Red alert and take cover!
This is what Zero Hedge has to say about the Chinese Ghost towns.
Two years ago we first covered the flip side of the Chinese real estate “boom” story by presenting the ghost city of Ordos. Today, on the two year anniversary of China’s Keynesian miracle being exposed for the whole world to see, Al Jazeera goes back to Ordos to see if anything has changed. And while Paul Krugman may be shocked, shocked, that the Keynesian approach of building for the sake of building does not work not only in the US but pretty much everywhere, it will be no surprise to anyone, that as Al Jazeera concludes, “it’s still pretty quiet, but here’s the remarkable thing – the building has’t stopped, somehow people are convinced that if you keep building, people will come. If not in a few years, then… eventually.” And somehow we keep bashing the Fed as the only source of Einsteinian insanity, when it is the same cretins from the Princeton economics department in both the monetary and fiscal arena, who know one thing and one thing only – do whatever ultimately fails, just keep on doing it.
it looks like the same report they filed two years ago

The other day I asked one caller on how he is accessing podcasts posted on TeluGlobe. It appears that he is listening to them directly using the web browser via TeluGlobe site. This is a good way. The trouble with this is older episodes cannot be seen immediately unless you seek older posts or do a search.
There is a better way. Download all MMGL episodes to your iTunes library and then synch them to your mobile iPxxxx device. Here is a surprise video podcast for you which shows how to do it.
