Today's featured guest is Andrea Navarra. Andrea Navarra is a 35-year-old Italian living in Malta. He holds a BSc in Nursing from Rome and an MSc in Green Economy from Bournemouth University, where he specialized in carbon management, renewable energy, and environmental law. He began his professional journey in healthcare as a nurse (2014–2021) before transitioning into environmental sustainability and occupational health and safety. He currently works as an EHS Manager. Outside of work, Andrea enjoys cycling, trekking, photography, scuba diving, and indulging in good music, movies, and great food.
Andrea first remembers stuttering around age 7 or 8, when his mother took him for a speech assessment and he began speech therapy. Around age 9 or 10, he also tried autogenic training, a relaxation technique. At 18, he joined a therapy group led by someone who promoted his method on Italian TV, spending a couple of weeks in Rome practicing an approach based on acting speech models. While he isn't sure he fully adopted that method, the experience gave him confidence and strength. Even though he still stuttered, it didn't bother him much until he was 28.
Around that time, stuttering became a significant challenge again. Andrea isn't sure of the exact reason, though many suggest adult responsibilities can cause stuttering to return or feel more troublesome. He tried adapting the Italian technique to other languages without success. Later, while in the Netherlands, he underwent another therapy that combined speech therapy with psychological training focused on stuttering, but he didn't find it helpful. Since then, Andrea has continued learning by listening to podcasts, reading, and engaging with the stuttering community. He's discovered there are many different techniques and approaches, and while he may explore another path in the future, for now he is still finding his way in managing his stutter.
I truly believe that there is healing in sharing, and I want to thank Andrea for sharing his story with me today.

Today’s episode is very close to my heart. In honor of our son, Ethan, I’ve put together a tribute filled with laughter, love, and memories that capture the amazing person he was. Ethan was just 20 years old when he was taken from us far too soon by a drunk driver. He was a bright light in our life—a passionate gamer, talented basketball player, swimmer, vintage truck enthusiast, and a person whose laugh could fill a room.
To everyone who recorded a message for this special episode, thank you. Your voices, your memories, and your love have helped create a beautiful celebration of Ethan's life, and I am deeply grateful. This episode is filled with the joy and warmth he brought into all our lives.
Join me in remembering Ethan and in celebrating his incredible spirit. May his laughter echo forever in our hearts.

Today’s featured guest is Mark Jones. Mark Jones was a talented and ferocious dual-code rugby player who was tormented by a debilitating stammer. During a professional career that spanned 22 years he was capped 15 times for Wales, 11 times for Wales RL and once by Great Britain RL. One of the acknowledged ‘bad-boys’ of the sport, he was sent off six times and banned for over 33 weeks for violent conduct. His on-field brutality was a direct consequence of the off-field frustration and self-loathing caused by his stammer. Mark now acknowledges that he was internalizing an explosive hate that only playing rugby could release. Mark received counselling and constructive help rather than condemnation for his unacceptable behavior and along with a program of speech therapy provided by his friends and mentors, all this has helped him turn his life around. “I have learnt to control my stammer and have stopped my stammer controlling me. Anyone who has suffered from a stammer will know of the humiliation and low self-esteem it creates. Thankfully, I have now found a way to live my life free from its grip and I hope that my honesty and insight will help others experiencing the same torment.”
I believe that there is healing in sharing, and I want to thank Mark for sharing his story with me today.

Originally from DR Congo but born in Montreal, Quebec, and raised in Edmonton, Alberta, he developed a speech impediment at a young age. He can't remember when he first noticed a difference in his speech or when it started to affect him, but to this day, he still stutters. As he always told himself, he is a work in progress. While his speech may never be fluent, he hopes to one day be able to control it. As a bobsled athlete with aspirations of competing at the 2026 Olympic Games, he found inspiration and guidance from his coach, Neville Wright, a three-time Olympian. At the same time, he hopes to be an inspiration to those with speech impediments, encouraging them to continue to defy the odds and show that we, too, are capable of many great things despite what waves life may throw at us.

Kelly has stuttered ever since they could remember, and going through having a stutter has been one of their most difficult challenges up until recently. They have recently been featured on Penn Today, a school-wide publication, for their advocacy and have plans to expand their advocacy into their research and daily life. I believe that there is healing in sharing, and I want to thank Kelly for sharing their story with me today.

Today’s featured guest is Danny Miguel. Danny is 34 years old and lives in Connecticut. He states, “I started stuttering surprisingly at 18 which is kind of odd since most stutterers develop stuttering during their adolescent years. I became a situational stutterer, often long pauses and struggled with it for 15 years until I found a program and book late last year. After 2-3 months of diligently immersing myself in the author’s methods, I overcame my stutter which brings me here to discuss a little bit more about the book and program”. When asked if speech therapy helped during that time period, he stated, “I only attended speech therapy in 2019 (February-August) Never found it to be helpful, but the book and program helped me a lot in just a month or two. I started earlier this year with the book and found success after 2-3 months where I could no longer be a detectable stutterer. Hear this journey of a PWS (Person Who Stutters) become a PWSS (Person Who Stopped Stuttering) through the use of a book and program that’s changing lives throughout the world”. I believe that there is healing in sharing, and I want to thank Danny for sharing his story with me today.

Today we are talking about the new social media app – Clubhouse. I’ve only been on it for a week, but I have already gained so much knowledge from some amazing speakers that I can apply it to assist me in my journey as a PWS. I knew nothing of this app until a few weeks ago and it is still in beta, but I believe that this app is going to be so beneficial for those who want to learn and grow. I have added the link to the article below describing the app and I encourage everyone to check it out. There are some unique aspects to this app in that it is only for Apple right now; there will be an Android version later and it is by invitation only. (I would like to thank John V. for inviting me to this app) I would love to see more PWS on this app because we have a voice and what we say has value.

I have always wondered if sleep has a direct correlation to my stutter. Recently I have been hearing about the benefits of sleep and the deficits from a lack of sleep. I decided to conduct my own personal experiment to see if sleep had an impact on my stuttering.

Juan Pablo states, “I’ve stuttered for as long as I can remember, and I’ve had some days where I thought I could not even have a job because of my inability to properly communicate. I am currently training every day with a community of stutterers in order to lift ourselves up and practice and improve our speech. I’ve already made a ton of progress in my career and my speech, and I intend to make a lot more progress.” I believe that there is healing in sharing and I would like to Thank Juan Pablo for sharing his story with us.

Today’s featured guest is John McIntosh. John is 60 years old and is from Glasgow, Scotland, and has stammered for as long as he can remember. After graduating with an honors degree in English Literature, John worked in social care for many years, mainly because he could not envisage entering a profession that made big demands on his speech. At the age of 35, he was married with two young daughters and decided to become a high school English teacher which he did until last August, when he retired. In 2004, when he was 45, he completed the McGuire Program Course, and was active in that program for many years. He currently is on the management committee of the Scottish Stammering Network, the main support group for PWS in Scotland, and helped establish the podcast “And Oh And On That Note”; which aims to get stammering voices out there in the public domain. I believe that there is healing in sharing and I would like to Thank John for sharing his story with us.

Stuttering and Finishing Your Sentences is a topic with extremely high opinions, and I would like to start the conversation. When I ask PWS (people who stutter) if they allow others to finish their sentences, the responses are split right down the middle, 50/50. For some it brings strong emotions and for others, it’s a non-issue. We are all different in our speech journey, but our common denominator is that we are not alone, and this platform allows us to discuss those issues that directly pertain to us.

Today’s episode is about the importance of having a thick skin and moving forward. For decades I let the opinions of others be my reality and I allowed that negativity into my life which caused me great pain and anguish. Over the years, I learned to develop a thick skin so that any negative comments would bounce off me and that allowed me to keep moving forward with my life. Life is a celebration and living my best life is now my goal.

Today’s featured guest is Sherrikka Myers. Every 1 Voice Matters is a nonprofit designed to help kids break down communicative and social barriers such as stuttering, self-esteem, self-confidence and bullying to improve their quality of life. Founder, Sherrikka Myers, grew up stuttering in a single-family household with limited resources. She used the only resource available to her to control her stuttering, which was a book. Reading out loud, instead of quietly to herself, is what helped her overcome stuttering and changed the trajectory of her life. After finding out her first grandchild Herbie stuttered, too, she decided to go back to school and start her nonprofit organization to help other kids in her community and around the world. I believe that there is healing in sharing and I would like to Thank Sherrikka Myers for sharing her story with us.

Today’s world is changing due to the Covid-19 virus. What we enjoyed in the past has now gone away; restaurants are closed, concerts cancelled, conferences cancelled, festivals cancelled, grocery store shelves are almost bare, and we must maintain social distancing to combat this virus and lower the infection rates. If you are a PWS (person who stutters), the occasional excursions for take-out have now become the only way to obtain take-out food. The occasional cell phone and laptop use is now the only way we communicate since businesses are closed and we conduct meetings via Skype or Zoom. Our living rooms, kitchens, bedrooms and closets have become our new office space. As a person who stutters, I am now pushed out of my comfort zone more than ever and I’m adapting to this new normal.

This episode was recorded in Orlando, Florida, at the Podfest Expo 2020 (podfestexpo.com). I was honored to have spoken at the Pecha Kucha portion of the expo and my title was “The Stuttering Podcaster”. I spent months and months preparing for this 5-minute presentation where I discussed the origin of my podcast and the main component of it which is to raise awareness about Stuttering. I also had the privilege and honor to speak with Evan Sherman, SLP, and continue our conversation in part two of this episode. Thank you, Evan Sherman, for sharing your thoughts with me on this podcast regarding global awareness and your #1 tip for PWS.

Over the years I have learned a few things about my stuttering and one of the big takeaways is disclosure. I find that it is so much easier to disclose my stuttering so that the other individual knows what it is, what to expect, and how to appropriately respond and/or interact during our conversation. Disclosure is my #1 Tip for people who stutter and I would like to know what is your #1 Tip for people who stutter. This would be a such a great benefit to all PWS around the globe so that they can learn from us the many tips and techniques that help us in our speech journey. If you are a person who stutters then I know this has happened to you. When you are dialing a number and get ready to speak but nothing comes out and the other caller makes a rude remark (in my case) and hangs up on you it can be very devastating. The after effects usually, in my case, resulted in falling back into my dark place for a while until I recovered. I have learned that you have to keep moving forward and keep making those phone calls. I learned to embrace my stutter and not fight it. I learned that I will make mistakes but I will learn from them and keep moving forward.
If this has happened to you, send me a voice message and let me know how you dealt with it. We are all different in our stuttering journey but we have a common bond that we are not alone. Let's help one another and share our stories so that we can use this as a teaching moment moving forward.

When you put your positive thoughts and energy out in the universe, you can create your own reality. During my years of personal development, I read many great books by Mel Robbins, Tony Robbins, John Maxwell, Les Brown and many others that helped me realize that I have the power to change my life for the better.
CALL TO ACTION: I want for you to let me know via email or Anchor voice message if this has changed your life. I want to know if you have had a daily win. With your approval, I will add it to my next podcast.

It is true that we learn something new everyday and today is no different. I came across a great tool to use if you are ever pulled over by the police, asked a question or to just educate people what what stuttering is. This helpful tool looks like a business card but on the front of this card states, "I am a person who stutters". The card explains what Stuttering is so that we can erase the stigma that is associated with this condition. I wish this was around when I was pulled over by the police (twice for speeding) and it would have made the experience a little more bearable. Instead, I was spuddering, spitting, and trying to say my name. If I had this card, I would have been able to give it to the officer and hopefully it would explain my lack of answering his questions. I am all about education and I try to educate as many people as I can about stuttering so that with understanding comes compassion and empathy.
For more information on how to obtain your card for free, visit: www.StutteringHelp.org

For those who want to see the video version of this podcast, I will be recording it this weekend so log onto YouTube to see my video on "My Stuttering Life". I believe that there is healing in sharing.
Today's featured guest is Matice Ahnjamine. Matice is a published author of first her book titled: The Product of My Selfishness: The Stutter and the Story. As someone who stutters, Matice wanted to encourage and educate stutterers and non-stutterers alike about the challenges people who stutter face. Keeping with that same mission, she started a YouTube channel in July 2017 that focuses on how she and others can live their best life with a stutter. Through YouTube, she has a platform that spans six of the seven continents. (She is determined to find someone who stutters in Antarctica!) No matter what she is doing or where she is going, Matice lives by two mottos: “Progress, not perfection,” and “Onward and upward.” Always, in all ways. Matice is an inspiration to everyone and for more information, you can visit her on: YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRJ4zhgJvtgqLGkJiinYUqQ Instagram: https://instagram.com/matice.ahnjamine?igshid=1awit2tt3cv4k
Today’s podcast has a special guest, Jason Curtis. Mr. Curtis has been involved with horses and horse shows for the majority of his life. For many years he had operated Oakridge Farms, a breeding & boarding operation in Florida, but decided to pursue his dream of becoming a full-time horse show announcer. He started announcing at a local horse show when he was asked to fill in for the regular announcer. The rest as they say is history, today he announces shows nationwide. In addition to announcing, Jason is producing his equine podcast series “Welcome to the Barn” available on all major podcast directories including iTunes and Google Play. He has been featured in World Dressage News, has announced the equestrian portion of the Modern Pentathlon and in January of 2015 he announced the first ever USEF recognized Western Dressage show. He is a regular announcer at many hunter and jumper shows in Florida and dressage shows up and down the East coast of the United States. Mr. Curtis is also a person who stuttered as a young man, but has learned ways to mostly control his stutter.
I would like thank Mr. Curtis for his bravery in sharing his story for the first time on this podcast as a person who stutters; there’s healing in sharing.

Over my 43+ years of stuttering, I've learned many techniques to help with my fluency. One of those techniques is talking in front of the mirror. In this technique, I am cognizant of my facial expressions and through practice, I can improve my overall delivery. I have practiced in front of the mirror from 30 mins to over an hour for days because you've heard the old saying, "Practice makes perfect".
If you have used this technique, please let me know by clicking the link at the bottom of the page and sending me a voice message. If you have a voice recorder app on your mobile device, you can also record a voice message and email that voice message to: mystutteringlife@gmail.com
If you send me a voice message, I will put it in my next podcast episode.
You are not in this alone, we are all in this together and if we can learn from one another then that is a blessing.
This episode is not about sports but more about job interviews. If you are a PWS (person who stutters) or even a non-stutterer, we've all had those job interviews that were less than favorable. In my experience, every job interview that I have crashed & burned, I learned from and applied that knowledge to the next interview. My motto is that I'm going to fail myself to success. Check out this episode on the little secret that they don't tell you about regarding job interviews.
Are you aware of the people around you? I'm talking those individuals in your inner circle who are negative and drain your energy on a daily basis. Plus, those people around you who don't want for you to succeed and they keep you at their level because it's where their comfort level is. I call these two groups: Vampires & Crabs In a Bucket. If you surround yourself with positive people and let go of those Vampires and Crabs In A Bucket, you will see a definete change in your outlook. As a stutterer, those Vampires drained my energy and I was living a life of constant exhaustion. Those Crabs In A Bucket always told me to stay where I was and not to "achieve anything". After I let those negative people go, my life changed for the better. I only surround myself with positive people who are going to lift me up and push me out of my comfort zone. My only regret is I wish I had done this in my 20s, but, everything happens for a reason.
Today's podcast has a special guest, Rama Siva, who lives in the UK and has worked at the Prime Minister's Office in London, serving Tony Blair and Gordon Brown. We discuss the origins of his stutter, his family history, speech therapy, energy vampires, and his advice for parents and teachers. Mr. Siva is an inspiration to stutterers and non-stutterers stating that the key to success is believing in yourself and having confidence. For more information on Rama Siva, you can reach him on all social media platforms with Stuttering Mind.
We are all dealing with our own personal struggles on a daily basis. You know my daily struggle is fluency and my special guest, Thomas Kenyon, explains his daily struggle with his thought processes. Today's podcast has a special guest, Joni Glaze, who is an entrepreneur and a fellow network marketer. As a person who stutters, I would not have imagined that I would be in network marketing given the stories from people in the industry talking about getting in front of people and giving presentations. Listen to how network marketing and personal development opened my eyes to amazing possibilities that I thought would never happen to me. I would like to thank Joni Glaze for her time and we will be speaking again because there is so much to discuss regarding her entrepreneurial spirit.
Today's podcast has a special guest, Evan Sherman, who is a person who stutters and is also a licensed Speech Language Pathologist. As a person who stutters, I've experienced shame, guilt and constantly apologizing for my stutter. This is my journey and I want to share it with you because if you are a PWS, you are not alone. You've experienced this and maybe have no one to talk to about your experiences. Well, let's help one another and navigate through this life with tenacity and positivity.
As a person who stutters, the two tools that have been instrumental in my speech journey have been hypnosis and diaphragmatic breathing. You know that when you have a block, your entire body is tensed and it may be that way for a quite a while. Hypnosis taught me how to breathe into relaxation so that I can use this technique in my daily regimen. Also, diaphragmatic breathing has taught to me while in my 20s and it has proven effective in beginning my sentences on the exhale with 100% fluency. Disclaimer: I know everyone is different when it comes to their own speech therapy journey but for me, these two tools have proven very valuable on a daily basis.
When comparing yourself to others, the outcome is most always unfavorable. When I was younger I compared myself to others because I did not like who I was because of my stutter. Now that I'm a little older, somewhat wiser, I am happy with who I am. It took me a long time to embrace my stutter but once I did, my whole life became a little brighter.
