Ability To RankSEOs and marketers don’t believe that AI-generated content can rank in top positions on Google, especially in competitive niches.2. Risks Of PenalizationThey don’t want to be penalized by search engines for creating AI-generated content which can go against the Terms of Service.3. Misinformation, Content Quality & Brand DamageThere is an overall risk of misformation and content quality that can lead to brand tarnishing and poor conversion.4. Negative ConnotationsThere are negative societal and cultural connotations to relying on AI for content creation. It is not seen as valid, pure and ethical.What If These Blockers Are Removed?If these blockers are removed, I believe a large percentage of marketers and SEOs would use these engines for the entire process.Many teams are relying on content farms and paying sub-optimal wages to outsourced writers to create content that is just slightly above the quality threshold to rank on search engines.Some teams are already using these engines to write the first version and then getting another engine to rewrite that content so they can get past the detection in point 2.The truth is, a lot of us are creating not because we want to create but because we have to create.These engines reward constant, fresh content. We’re already seeing many creators burn out trying to publish at a rapid clip so they can be rewarded by the algorithms.If we look at the exponential pace of improvement and these four blockers are eliminated, I believe we will see a tsunami of automated creation that displaces not only content farms but quality creators.I guess my belief here is that many marketers don't really care about the content they are creating and are being incentivized to drive impressions, clicks and conversions.If you could successfully acquire customers and build an amazing business without paying a bunch of marketers and writers to create content I am guessing you would 😂While the current quality of content from these engines doesn't always accommodate that, the output will continue to improve at a rapid speed.We are heading toward a state where it may not make sense for marketers to create themselves.More weight will be put into "prompt engineering" and deciding what content to create - but at some point, Semrush, Ahrefs and other tools will integrate these engines to enable competitive analysis, research, and content ideas all the way to publishing (and even optimization post-publishing).When that happens, the role marketers and creators play may diminish or even disappear. Monika DagurI want to be but I am a shy person. OK, a little camera shy so it is making me a little nervous.Tyler BrydenWho are you?Monika DagurBy the way, I'm Monica.Tyler BrydenOK. What role do you play in my life?Monika DagurOh. Ohh, I am Tyler's romantic partner.Tyler BrydenWow, roommate.Monika DagurRomantic. I'm specifying that because at times I would say he's my partner and I was like, oh, business.Tyler BrydenPartner understand. Yeah. And I get I get sort of screwed up because I say partner and then and then even if I specify Indian, I also have vatsal as my business partner. And so people are confused sometimes. That's all. My business partner, Monica is my life partner. I love her. She's also got a fur ball. In the back. He's not that furry anymore. No. He got a brutal haircut and looks like a rat. And this is much different than the normal videos that I create, which is usually just me ranting. You've seen it, it's done, OK, it's done. It's done OK to date. But in this video, I want to talk about how to prepare for your first trip to India. And that's sort of the idea of the video here I am playing the amateur in this video because I haven't done this trip yet. Monica is a little bit more of the veteran. We have a couple.Tyler BrydenSort of prompt questions here and hopefully we just have a fun conversation that is also somewhat insightful. We'll share a little bit about why are we going to India, how long are we going to go the flight, you know, all the good stuff that maybe people have questions on and hopefully that is valuable to you. So, Monica? Dallas. Tell us about.Tyler BrydenMisconceptions that I may have or people who haven't been to India. Have you have any ones top of mind?Monika DagurMisconceptions. I mean, there are a lot and lot and lot and. And it's just like it. And some of them might be true for some of the regions, but India is so huge and diverse. And you would go with those like, oh, this is how people talk. And then you're in a region and you end up in a state which is completely different, have a different culture, that there's a different way they talk to each other. So it might be true for some of the certain regions and some people you've seen, but it's not applicable to rest of the India. So that's, you know, you've seen one Punjabi guy or one person from South.Monika DagurYes. I don't assume that's All India. There is a, you know, common thread that ties us all together, but definitely. Yeah, I don't expect everybody to be the same. Yeah, other misconceptions. You tell me what prejudice you have prejudice.Tyler BrydenYeah, great word for it. Yeah. What racism do I contain inside me?Monika DagurAnd I'll try to break it down if it's, you know, if it's true or not.Tyler BrydenThink the so culturally growing up in Canada, I, you know I've told you this many times, but my first interaction with India was like literally like Slumdog Millionaire, the movie. And so a lot of us actually built our understanding of India based on that. And then I think generally in culture here or in media it's represented as like. You know, a lot of people that's like one of the obviously the big 1 billion people, billion plus people, 1 billion.Monika DagurI think we're going to.Tyler BrydenSurpass China April. Yeah, it's April that. That one video we just watched recently, which is a little bit of like the chaos, like the chaotic of like the driving, the like that that that the population sort of brings. But then I would say not not misconceptions, but more of the positive thing that we've seen lately is like an incredible population who is like young and like growing and education and like super like ambitious and technical at like work. So like a huge, I think there's a huge positive. Reputation and sort of cultural like representation of India coming out. But I think then you know more growing up was like yeah, the the population, the poverty.Monika DagurYeah, the third world. Those things and Slumdog Millionaire is true. And I would go back to the same comment that I made earlier. It's like it's specific to one region. There is a region in Mumbai, the world's biggest slum, but the other, India, it's completely different. It's like it's even more modern than things you would see here in Canada like you'd like. So I live in Delhi. And if you go to Gurgaon, that's like another hub where most of the educated, newly young, talented people work and it's a complete.Monika DagurYou know, it has toll raise buildings. They have the same infrastructure as you have here. So there's you know, there's those sides, they exist in some places and they do not and some. But yes, there, if you talk about Delhi, there is a lot of people, it's the capital and people migrate to that place in search of new jobs and opportunities. Every day, every single day there's more people coming in. And once you just, I think I've said this to you before, but it doesn't just imagine all of Canada's population in this pinpointed, you know, half of that.Monika DagurAll of Canada's population in Toronto, just imagine so it's it's pure chaos. You just cannot, like, I just can't even begin to like, how can you bring some structure to that? So that happens. But yeah, to your second point, it is true wake I think there are some of the new stuff that's coming out is sort of doing a little bit of justice. You know, Slumdog, yeah, it was ten years ago and now we have, I mean Raj from Big Bang Theory happened a long time ago but it's the new India is sort of sad. I would say like if the youth is hungry they want to develop, they want to like you know, it's heavily heavy influence from West mean including I was like, you know, I grew up watching.Monika DagurLoving movies and shows and I just it just attracted me. And that's what I, you know, I aimed for that life.Tyler BrydenAnd I mean, it's not probably fully accurate, but I like maybe the new representation for like me of India is like Hassan Minaj, you know, like sharp, funny, like just super clean. Like, I don't know, like. And a lot of people that I've, you know, now had the privilege to meet who are from India or connected to you are like, I don't know, just. Like our breaking, breaking the sort of cultural stereotypes that were, you know, really prevalent, like not that long ago.Monika DagurHe's trying to break in, or at least trying to because we've been in that cocoon. And then there's opposite side of that. There are some people which are holding tight, yeah, them onto their dear life to keep their values. But then there are other people who just want to break out of it. And then, you know, just normalize a lot of things which were not normalized and stigmatized. And especially as a woman, I just felt there's a room for, you know, young people to be more accommodating and understanding. So yeah. Youth is definitely moving towards that, not all of it. Like, I'll go back again, it's like there's two sides to it. There are some people, you know, holding on. It's like this is our culture, This Is Us, we're Indian. We have been on the map for so long and we need to preserve, preserve it. But majority, I would say they want to develop, they want to grow out of that mindset. So keep some of those values because that's what, you know, distinguishes us on the map. And you know, the whole and most of them are like really good.Monika DagurI used to hold on to. But still a lot of room for growth, I would say.Tyler BrydenIf you, and I mean if Monica ever decides that she would come back and do more videos, you know, I hope that there's an opportunity to learn a little bit more about like the journey from India to Canada and what that like. And I think there's you know, I consider Monica just this beautiful, brave, like courageous person who made this journey with not really that much sort of support around her to come to Canada. And I just, it's been really inspiring. For me. And so I hope as long as you know anyone who watches this video and treats her nicely, that she'll come back and talk about that at some point, I guess. I have never done just a couple of sort of not technical things, but like more nitty gritty of like I have never done a flight this long. You have gone there back, you've done twice now, right. So can you give us some insights on the flight, the journey from either way, the length?Tyler BrydenHow you feel about it? Any things to prepare for that flight?Monika DagurIt's dreadful. It's a, it's a, it's a 20. Like if you do a direct flight then the flight is 16 hours. You can have to be airport like 3 hours before and then the packing that you know the whole.Tyler BrydenBut the.Monika DagurWhole day and then you land there, it's going to take some time. So you basically lose a day and then add to add the time zone conversion. So basically lose 2 days just in traveling and that's where you know with your direct flight or maybe an hour or two. Never layover, but if you go over than that like you could be like and then at 2 on top of that add the jet lag so it takes you a week just at least to just reset like you know the it's it's yeah. So you can never like when you're planning a trip this huge and into a completely different time zone you just going to have to make sure that you're you know counting those days which you're going to lose in that transition.Tyler BrydenIs it worse going from India to Canada or?Monika DagurCanada, it is worse because, like, you're losing time. So like, just like our flight is on the 14th, we, you know, we leave in the afternoon. Yep, probably mostly early morning. We'll leave here from early morning and then we reach on the 15th evening night. So we've lost two days, but on way back you gain a day.Tyler BrydenYou're in the future. We talked to your family on New Year's and they were celebrating New Years.Monika DagurQuite a bit earlier than us, right?Tyler BrydenSo yeah, they're like a day ahead, basically 11 hours, 11 hours, 1111.Monika DagurHours changes during daylight savings. So I think we lose an hour or gain an hour. I would never remember that, just like I had to do the math as it happens. But yeah, come over this like it's a long flight and if you travel economy, you're just sitting, you just going to have to move. And yeah.Tyler BrydenAn economy already is fairly expensive for most people 20.Monika DagurFive. Oh my God, exactly like because of the distance. Because of the distance, like the cheapest you could go is round trip is 2500. Yeah right. Yeah that's the cheapest and yeah it's. That's the worst part of traveling.Tyler BrydenAnd this is not a sponsored video one day maybe. But what United Arab Emirates is what united Emirates?Monika DagurIt's.Tyler BrydenJust alright, sorry, cut it out. No one's cutting this out. But the there we were going to take Air India air or.Monika DagurAir.Tyler BrydenCanada, Air Canada and then there was like the India, Air India and both were like, don't you know a lot of recommendations not to do that?Monika DagurGood flight because 16 hours, 20 hours you don't wanna be. In a bad situation.Tyler BrydenSo we're doing, we're doing like a Saturday. I still don't know when we leave. I should know that sometime in the afternoon. I think it makes no difference in this time. But like I generally like the idea of traveling on the weekends so that you're having like a full week in some place, but obviously that's being sort of. You know it's we're going to be pretty late on Sunday by the sort of the time that we get there. I'm trying to think what else. I mean there's many things that we could talk about here. Let me look at the old questions. I guess one thing I'll talk about quickly was this God damn visa process that I would like to complain about just quickly if you give me the time. So if you are Canada, you need to, if you Canadian, you need to get a visa to go to India. And at the time that I had done it.Tyler BrydenThe basically, oh, what happened, there was some farmers protest in India. Justin Trudeau got involved, said he didn't like the farmers protest, and Modi shut down the evisa. So the E visa was like the very sort of. So this is be all international. India has just outsourced everything to them. So they're the ones managing this entire process. Trudeau said something. And also like Canadians, Canada's not doing a very good job processing Indian immigrant and that's why he was.Monika DagurMad, I think. I think that's the main reason. Obviously there's tension between the leaders of the two countries, but I think mainly main reason was that it said in the description that they were reciprocating. So they're probably making it difficult for Indian people to come here, so.Tyler BrydenSo you know I love complaining. I just do it for a quick second, but also just as a guide. So I'll link this into YouTube video and on the page that this is. So this is if you are a Canadian trying to travel, I think even if you're from anywhere maybe you're dealing with BLS international and you have sort of an option to do visas. And for me I did entry visa, entry visa and there was the option was tourist visa. Yeah, you're right, you're right. Damn it. Yeah, I'm giving false information. Basically there was two options. There was Evisa, which was disallowed and then there was a postal or walk in and there was a lot of sort of sort of fear happening because people's the the time to process those visas was going up a lot. So it went from like you know, two weeks to 45 days is you know, we saw some some people complaining on us you know on national news they reinstated the evisa part through. So if you're Canadian you now can access the E visa which makes this process a lot easier.Tyler BrydenMy process was not that it was paying 30 bucks to ship it in the visa and then ship it back through Purolator. So 60 bucks in total. And in that process it got lost and just sat in the BLS internationals for like what, since December 9th to just two days ago? Yeah, almost a month. And so, and if you're trying to call those people, not the easiest thing to do. But if you are trying to call BS, what Monica helped me figure out was you just got to call before 10:00 AM Eastern Standard Time and abuse that phone number.Tyler BrydenUntil someone picks up and then they were nice people they have they helped out so.Monika DagurThey helped they they know. Yeah, but remember, they are hard to reach.Tyler BrydenYes, hard to reach and.Monika DagurHard to get any information the support ticket was sitting on, yeah, but in their defense, if I may, it was holiday. Yeah.Tyler BrydenIt was holidays. There's a lot going on and a huge demand for visas right now because it's like the first time a lot of people are traveling, including, yeah, this is the first time you've gone back since three years. How does that make you feel?Monika DagurOverwhelmed. It's been awhile and yeah. Looks like it's going to be different family. Please assign.Tyler BrydenI hope so too. Yeah. So I guess why are we going back, you know, besides the three years, what's going on? You got anything you want to share about that?Monika DagurYes, we're going back. I am going back to see my family after three years because I'm Indian. I'm from Delhi, I we didn't mention that. And and there's a special reason to introduce you to the family. And India is huge and I am from Delhi and I haven't seen most of it. I live most of my life in the north and I've traveled me a little further up north, but. But yeah, I just, just, I just thought that it would be a great opportunity to introduce you to the family and then also explore India together. So we're gonna travel suit some beautiful places that I've never been before.Tyler BrydenAnd once like once you've made that sort of journey there like you can. Like, you can have a pretty awesome Trump for relatively low expenses, like after you pay for the flight, right? Yeah, so.Monika DagurYeah, for yeah, for the countries like in the West, like you know, Canadian dollar, U.S. dollar, the conversion and some clean up 50 * 70 times for US. So it does enables you to afford a relatively good experience in cheap.Tyler BrydenDo you want to give us a little bit of this flight path or what? And we really wanted to go see that, I guess the backwaters.Monika DagurIn Kerala.Tyler BrydenBut the way that we are looking, it was sort of we were having a little bit of tough time planning that out and then that also alapi was very sort of.Monika DagurTourist.Tyler BrydenDestination. And so one of the things that's like the big part of that is like the House boats, but they said specifically during this time that it would be like really loud motors, a lot of people. And so if you're on the river, you're going to be on the river with like all these other houseboats just going, yeah, down it. And so we went a little bit towards.Monika DagurYeah, a little away from the more more tourist specific places, so it's going to be a little. Less crowded, yes. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And then and then we found a really nice, beautiful accommodation just by the backwater, which was.Tyler BrydenYeah. And they've got like super, super excited about this. I think one of our more anticipated spots also like down South from like a I guess not a history standpoint, but our sort of I, I don't even know how to describe this but. Like the South Indian, South Indian, the east. I don't want to say, you know what I'm trying to.Monika DagurSay, I know what you're trying to say, but yeah, South Indian and North Indian are like we're still Indian but have different, still have the same history. But there's a lot of differences that are easily identifiable and I don't know where exactly to begin like what are the differences are but N being. So north, I would say it was like at the center of the Silk Road, so a lot of travelling and merging and that happened. So North has a lot of influence from northern countries like from Afghanistan, Pakistan, and a lot of mixing cells, I would say is quite preserved. I mean, the Portuguese did land. Yeah, the Portuguese did land on, you know, the West Coast and Goa. There's, yeah. So there's, you know, there's all that coolant colonization like the tea plantation. Yeah, it's a plant, right. So that also happened. But SI would say has more like feature wise people are fairer and would like I would say like you know resemblance to people from Afghanistan and and even if you go northeast, the physical features are similar to that of the Chinese and the Japanese.Monika DagurLike that. So it's like we have such like diverse even physical, appearance, culture, language.Tyler BrydenFood what?Monika DagurYeah, each state has its own unique flavor. Yeah, Tamil, Tamil. So like a lot of like a lot of people talk about like the food if you like meat and fish and things like Carolyn is like amazing place to go because you can get all these like amazing sort of meat dishes. So I'm, I'm a meat eater. You know what I eat mostly vegetarian, but I do eat meat and like something about like. Because you're a vegetarian and we cook mostly curries vegetarian. Yeah, I'm. I get really excited too. Indian curries with some meat meat in them. So that's the first piece of our journey. We so we go then from coach, so we go to Kumaran Kochi, we land there. Let me, let me explain it, you know.Tyler BrydenAlright. And Kochi, I forget exactly how long that flight is. So if you are what I'll tell you, a hint, tip, if you're going to India is not to say can I have some Chai tea, because Chai is tea and you sound like an idiot. And I mean we watched a couple of videos about munar and it just looks. So cool. And I hope we can. So we're staying, what, five days in lunar, we're going to do 2 days in Kumaran, but this nice little stay and then we're going here. And I really hope we can see like what you said the other day was like tea plantations, but like on really high elevations, which is super, super.Monika DagurCool. Yeah. This is where the Portuguese landed the first time, so the architecture is and everything else has. Influence from that and it's a beach city. I would say it's a party city. It's relaxed and free, has different laws and regulations. So yeah, a lot of people go there to have a lot of fun.Tyler BrydenAnd that's what we're going to do. And so they're there for today, 10 days, not two. I'd be very sad if only two. I feel 10. So I feel like our, our, our conversation has devolved a little bit from how to prepare to what we're excited about personally, but I think we're also sharing some of the best. Destinations that you could go in India like these were the top places that we looked in India and recommended I. One thing I'll add that was super interesting was that some of the places that we looked at, I forget if it was Goa or it was more care about what would not accept us because we were not a married couple and actually some places didn't even accept tourists at all like like so they had specified. So we were looking at booking.com. We recommend booking you know we like we spend a.Monika DagurLot of time looking into the policies and make sure. It's couples friendly and then if they don't like it, they would they should explicitly mention it like unmarried couples not allowed. They would say that and there were a lot of nice hotels that we stumbled upon which did not allow us. And then also and I'll add that in the link is what Red Bus, which was where we right red bus, red bus was the you know mostly one of the bigger I guess the biggest sort of travel. Bus company in India. So there's a couple spots that there's not really air travel connection and so we're taking, we think we're taking this that's all still dissuading us but I I'm like, I think this is.Monika Dagur10.Tyler BrydenBucks. They're specific ones in India and you can see Goa and a couple of places I like. We like their videos because it sort of broke it down into the things you need to know. And one of the things that it was great to hear was like we're traveling at the perfect time. Yes, basically, yeah.Monika DagurYeah, because India gets really hot in summer time. So what people do in in summer, they travel up north. Yes, that's the best place to travel. We went to this one in London ON while we were back visiting and it was about 60 bucks for the consultation. About 250 I think bucks for me. I had to get hepatitis. AI think that was different. If you're preparing to go to India, the level of fluency that you need now, there are most people, not most people, but a lot of the population speaks English that you're going to be interacting.Monika DagurWith and South more specifically, like South is like, you know, well educated and blah blah blah so and you wouldn't be able to talk to them in Hindi to begin with. Because they have their own languages. Not many South Indian people know Hindi, but they are really good and most of them are good in English even if they're not good in English. Everybody in India, I think understands the basic words like stop, go, come, do bus, train, like, you know, if I think. Uh, with English you can survive. In India especially like when you go to Delhi, Delhi, everybody speaks English or understands like basic. Like if you say things slowly they would understand.Tyler BrydenThere's a lot of English in used interchangeably in Hindi.Monika DagurHindi. Yeah. Like if you go to my family, they'll like, you'll see them. It would never be like a pure Hindi sentence. There would be some English words thrown into it so you would be able to pick up at least what the conversation is about. But yeah, in Delhi. Could survive without Hindi. In South, you could survive without Hindi. We, you know, English would work even better. But it's just like when you there are some regions where you know the literacy is not bad, they don't understand English, so you would. I think there are just some phrases which could take you a long way. Yeah, you know, just like do the things that you need, which I mean most tourists do when you go to a place where they do not speak your language. And yeah, you should be OK.Tyler BrydenAnd I have slowly been working my way through Duolingo. I'm on 110 days, almost 210 days. So if you do want to go, I think anytime you go somewhere like it's worthwhile to try to learn a little bit of the language. So I've been using Duolingo and then recently I stumbled onto Google Translate. I knew about Google Translate, I had a lot of fun last night, and so I'm saving up phrases that I might want to know and I find it would do a lingo. It's really good for learning and it's helped me a lot with the structure of the sentences and stuff. But it sometimes when I'm like, I just want to know how to say this, like that's more ideally you have more flexible application of language than the way that Duolingo is teaching you. Like I'm not going to talk about the a black cat over and over and over again kind of thing.Tyler BrydenSo that and then I'm going to use Google Translate one there and I, you know, I'm super excited for that part. So because like I'm planning to do a lot of shopping like when I go back, so that's why I'm carrying empty bags.Tyler BrydenAnd we so we. That two big bags plus a carry-on plus a backpack on the way there. The internal flights we don't get as much. You only get one carry on and then 115 KG bag. I went to Burning Man last year and if I felt like I didn't pack something, I was going to die. And here, I don't feel that way. So just think of things which are, you know, only available in the country that you live otherwise, and then things which are too expensive. You don't want to go back to India and buy an iPhone. But yeah, just, uh, pack light essentials only and yeah.Tyler BrydenAnd overall we and so I don't know it's a little skewed the data, but we we found pretty good accommodations from like Canadian wise like I mean the low end was like $27.00. Uh, but it it would have been possible if you wanted to because like there are accommodation which could be as cheap. But as I like we talked about it, we're going into season which is touristy in those places. Tyler Bryden here. I hope everything is going well. I got this new hair. It's still not used to. It's shining in this little glowing light above me here. I hope you like it. I hope it doesn't distract you too much. I'm going to jump into my little screen here so you don't have to worry about it as much and talk about today's topic, which is starting to emerge and is I think super, super fascinating. This sort of intersection of technicality of innovation and AI ethics and that is that. Open AI is apparently developing a watermark, and basically the main idea here is that, you know, obviously chat, chat, you PT, but just open a eyes. GP system in general has really had sort of an exponential rise here, and tons of people are using it to create content, do all sorts of different tasks. And in many of those right now it's indistinguishable if a human is creating that or if an AI.Is creating that FPT is and you know in many cases that might not be a harmful thing but in some cases it might be and and then there are all these other elements in places where this can have big consequences. And I just think of for example if you are creating SEO content online, if you are, you know publishing content would PT you know apparently there's some things that are going against the guidelines there and so there's this then you know incentive for. Search engines to understand is this machine generated or is this human generated and truly is this high quality content which provides value to people and lots of sort of arguments around hey it's pretty easy that the text that comes out of these systems is relatively robotic blah blah blah. Shouldn't have said blah blah blah. I'm sorry all those things are true. But in, you know, in most cases with the right sort of prompt engineering, I know people don't like that term. Sometimes you can build output that is relatively indistinguishable, sometimes same quality and a lot of times better and obviously quicker. Which intrigues a lot of people. And I've talked about sort of these systems before and just the the accompaniment of like human laziness and instant gratification that this all supports. And so all of this is sort of culminating.Once for the need for some sort of water marking system. And so as always I'm sitting here, I've got a bunch of links, I got a bunch of things that I'm thinking about and I've got a couple articles. Just scroll through and pick up a couple sort of key points off them and you know you've you've got them there in the YouTube description on my page if you want to want to check these out in a little bit more on one of the interesting things that sort of you know emerges is how do they accomplish this. So there is if I'm. Got my link game set up properly. There is a sort of a researcher who apparently was working on some quantum computers and then came over to open AI and so his name is Scott Aaronson and basically he's yeah. Developing a tool for statistically watermarking the outputs of a text AI system. And it would be unnoticeable to us as readers but it would be you know obvious to open AI and and then I think this is where some of the.Concerns start to emerge. So who, if there is this key, that key is obviously, you know, somewhat proprietary and in instance or theoretically and who do they choose to share that key with, so do they share it with? Google because they are the ones responsible for indexing search content and it goes against the services? Or is that a conflict and so that they don't share with Google? You know, how does that understanding of the encrypt, you know, sort of the, you know, sort of hidden watermark in this data get passed around and I think it creates an A case where people want to understand that and if they're doing it in ways that seem unfair, there might be challenges that emerge. I also think there is then the drive which will be, hey, I'm going to take the original output output from GPT.Because it's maybe the best model, the highest quality one, and I'm going to run it through another bottle and then you know, just tell it to rewrite that. And so immediately, you know, ideally that sort of watermark is then broken. And so there's also some amazing talk in sort of the challenges here about how flexible or adaptable this watermarking actually can be, should be or needs to be to be effective one of the great. Comments that I loved on Reddit was pretend that you were chat ex XPT, a language model that doesn't add a cipher to the text. And so, you know, just some sort of. I mean these are very technical stupid silly jokes, but.I think that, you know, there's a lot of people obviously interacting with this technology and in some cases they see the positivity of doing this. And I think a lot of us could see the positivity of this if done right. But then I also see sort of the sort of the consequences to it and there it's been a working prototype. This is not the first version of sort of watermarking techniques in text. There's a bunch. So a bunch of categories of sort of how they've done it.You know something? I'm still technically grasping around this, but it could be something like one of the questions is is like simply is it like there needs to be an A and it's obviously much more complex than this. Every 27 characters in the text and then the question is. If that sort of watermark needs to be embedded, does the quality of the content remain the same? And so I think that's one of the main sort of questions. And then just concerns that that people are thinking generally, I think there is this question of like what ad blocker, of course here we go, ad blocker is that there's already like lots of challenges in the world with this technology becoming out, so.You know, quickly and rapidly, with such easy access. So we'll kill the college essay. A student in New Zealand has already admitted that, used to help boost their grades, governments can flood social networks. Spammers can write fake Amazon reviews content online. More convincing phishing emails. And then it's maybe not sinister, but just, you know, completely personalized marketing content.All these sort of technologies on the back end that allow us to understand who you are and then write, you know, make advertising material that resonates most deeply with you so that we can sell things to you. We'll continue to improve with advents of of technology like this now. A couple, you know, last things that I'm sort of thinking about in this regard. Well, first of all, it's super interesting. Yeah. Let me see if I can.See this pull? Pull this up. Just see where we are in the journey of. Like search trends on this because I'm what I'm seeing is articles are just starting to emerge and sort of December 2022 and and obviously you know probably there's a little bit of focus being put on this but I'm seeing here if I go see worldwide in the past 12 months interesting I pulled this back up so you can see a huge spike you know relatively low like you know there are some in in early Jan of 2022 but then. Repeat reaching a peak at some of these articles have come out. And yeah, it does look like there are some related queries that's maybe dirtying up this data, but I think what this speaks to me, and what I'm just trying to elaborate with this point is that there's such a.A huge adoption of this platform being like actually being used, but then also massive awareness of it. With that brings in here are the consequences of here brings the ethicist here brings the human computer interaction layer. All this stuff sort of combines to make this a super super interesting I think just. Sort of study on how we embed technology into the world. And one of the things that I think of it takes me back to my university where we talk about Amish sort of communities and how Amish people actually before they accept technology into the community, they will have a meeting and a get together. And obviously this doesn't scale to the world that we're in, but they they basically get together and they need to communally agree that this technology is.Acceptable to be adopted into our community. And now we're way past that point. But it speaks to an element. And you know, at least what I'm seeing are some early signs that there is some work, some thought being put into this. And, you know, Elon Musk famously left open AI because, you know, I was concerned about some of the ethics and stuff that go in there. I should just say ethics and stuff. It's like super important stuff with especially as this, you know, continues to grow.But I think this will come out of a necessity and as more cases that things are. You know, work well, but then things break. The need will continue for this. And again, this is not live now, but some people maybe think that it will be embedded in GPT 4 with that release coming in 2023. We're not exactly sure. There's still a lot of people who don't think this is going to work. I'm excited to follow this story. If anything, you know, truly, you know, interesting and worthwhile jumps up. You know, I'll be creating a video about it. I hope that this was interesting. You, you got some insights from me. Personal Goals10,000 Subscribers By the End Of 2023Getting eligible for YouTube monetization In 2022 is the first step milestone toward this goal. YouTube monetization is 1,000 subscribers, 4,000 hours of watched content, and no active community strikes. YouTube monetization was actually the original goal for this but I had that as a goal in 2022 that failed. Based on the data, I should reach YouTube monetization eligibility in early to mid-2022.At the end of July 2022, I started consistently creating Youtube videos. Since then, the YouTube channel has had over 70,000 views and currently has just under 700 subscribers,I've got a lot of work to get to the quality that I want but overall it's been a valuable experience that has helped me grow, connected with me great people, built a personal brand, and given me a feedback loop of learning.ImplementationI am almost at this goal. To do this, I need to improve my video qualityHere is what I need to do to achieve this:1. Improve video quality (sound, camera, background, 2. Increase my net worthHaving even a positive net worth was not an achievable goal for a long time. I am struggling with this goal because some may consider that I already have a positive net worth. I have no personally liable debt but I do have a significant mortgage that will not be paid off for several years even in the most ideal scenario. I am also leasing a vehicle and have other expenses that I want and need to continue paying for. ySome would say that a mortgage is an appreciating asset and I don't need to consider this a factor in that positive net worth goal. And, because Monika and I won't be able to pay off the mortgage in full focusing specifically on a positive net worth may be misguided. There is some concern about house prices being underwater right now with interest rates. But, considering our location, the quality of the house, continued immigration, and other trends there is still a good belief that if we hold on to the property for long enough it will appreciate and pay off.So, the focus is to of course have a positive net worth and continue to increase it year after year.Implementation1. I believe the relationship with them is important and making an effort to learn their language and open up a communication channel is a meaningful endeavour.Currently, I have been learning Hindi using Duolingo, which I have enjoyed immensely. I am surpassing a 100-day streak and have felt my grasp of the language, structure of sentences, and ability to pick words and phrases out from conversations increase.Implementation1. Fitness & Well-Being Goals15% body fatI struggle consistently with weight gain, volatile health and the ups and downs of food addiction, and emotional (or even bored) eating. To try and set a goal with numerical clarity that would be rewarding to accomplish I have set a goal to achieve 15% body fat by the end of the year. Currently, I sit between 22% and 26% and after Christmas, I'm definitely leaning on that higher end.Time will tell if this is achieved but I will be doing my best to set up my habits and environment in a manner that is conducive to success.30-inch stomach widthThis goal ties in closely with the fitness goal above. I can range from 32 to 34. But, if I am sitting at 15% body fat with a lean stomach I should be a 30-inch stomach width.Weigh 195 lbsThis is another fitness goal that brings me back to what I believe is my ideal weight. Currently, I sit around 206 pounds and have hit as high as 211 pounds in 2022 after a series of several vacations and as low as 202 pounds with focus, exercise, and healthy eating.Implementation1. Run at least 3 KMs three times per week 2. Do weight exercises at least three times per week 3. Do heavy weights at a real gym (squats, bench presses) 4. Fun Time: Goals Without Fear Of Failure Or EmbarrassmentWhile the goals above are real goals, there is realism, practicality, fear of being overambitious and the shame of stating these may be unrealistic goals (especially within a one-year timeline) baked in.So, in this last section, I want to share a few goals that I have that may not be achieved in 2023 but if I was to imagine this world tapped directly into source with a flow of success would be achieved.Pay Off My MortgageI want to have financial freedom and paying off my mortgage is a big version of that.Make A Million Dollars Personally In A YearGrowing up, so many of us were instilled with the idea that being a millionaire is a valuable goal. Although there are so many things that conflict with this goal, it is still something I want to achieve. Money is time and time is freedom.Get 1 Million Subscribers On YouTubeI still have a core belief in YouTube. This may be a vanity metric but it speaks to the fact that I've created something valuable in this world and that there is a meaningful audience who likes that content and at the core, me.Travel To 3 Countries in 2023The travel bug got me in 2022. I had planned on doing some travel before the pandemic that obviously never crystallized. In 2022, I was able to do Burning Man, Portugal for Web Summit, and Oakland and San Fransisco for Foundercon. In 2023, I am doing an extensive 50-day trip to India. I am hoping a few more trips may emerge. I am trying to not be overwhelmed when it comes to travel which it definitely has been in the past. I am getting better on focusing on enjoying the experience, not worrying about "productivity loss" and understanding the importance of having these moments in life.Automated Video Transcript By SpeakOK. Hello. Hello. Hello. Tyler Bryden here. I hope everything is going well. I'm recording this on the last day of 2022. I've put together a little series of videos sort of wrapping up. I like to do this a little bit of a reflection. I've got goals for 2023. That's what I'm gonna be talking about today if you didn't check it out. I also did what I'm grateful post here. I'm scrolling all over the place and also some predictions for 2023. So I made some, you know some articles about those, some videos if you're interested in that. But what I wanted to jump in specifically today was my goal is for 2023 and.
I've talked about this a little bit before, but I have this Google sheet which I think is super interesting and it helped me sort of set goals in a more structured way that are very sort of concrete. And you know when you've done it right, you know when you failed. And so it has sort of, and I'm not sharing it directly on the screen, but basically has sort of the goal, the deadline, the percentage of that is accomplished, the days to the so then it's cool. It sees also your the days to the deadline of when you set that date. And then what age you're going to be at it. And then there's a priority level too. So, you know, if I look and I say, hell, I have this year ahead of me, I have ten goals. But these three specifically are highest priority. I can make that assessment and maybe switch on the fly or prioritize and deprioritize because maybe that was too much to take on. And so in this video I used or for this video, for this article, I used that Google sheet.Filtered by 2023, and I've said here's what goals that I, you know, in a previous iteration said that I wanted to accomplish. I also made some iterations on those goals as I was putting together this article. And in my, you know, grateful post, I talked about some goals that I had achieved that I was unsurprisingly grateful for. In this case, what I'm doing is sharing these goals, public goals, publicly. It's revealing. It's, you know it.Feels vulnerable. It feels like there could be possibility of shame if they don't accomplish these goals. And then there's some really interesting research around why you shouldn't share your goals publicly. And I'm always, you know, I've relatively been this sort of transparent person. But you know, I heard this before and I wanted to do a little bit of a deeper dive, so I actually put this in the article. And I mean, just is like, yeah, you get premature praise when you share your goals, so that makes you less likely to follow through. You also get the sort of, yeah, like dopamine.Rush. And so you can sort of relax. You think, hey, I've at least shared my goals. That's something that's pretty impressive itself in its own right. And one of the other interesting notes was about the sort of idea of share goals publicly because it puts in accountability. But in most cases, say, me doing this article, me doing this video, sharing these goals, maybe, you know, you watch this and I really appreciate you if you do watch this or you read this, but there's not that much of a threat of failing to follow through. And so you know what they talk about in the article. And I've got all these linked here for you.You can check them out is that fear is what drives accountability, and fear often comes from a painful consequence if you do not achieve that goal. And maybe that's some sort of financial setback or personal setback, or maybe it's just shame and embarrassment, but that's a sort of crucial part of their recipe in making sure that you actually achieve goals. So I'm thinking about that. I think about how I can punish myself, how I can make more fear and build them into these goals. And I think overall I'm.Trying to come from a point of. OK, well I'm sharing these posts publicly. I'm almost going against this advice, but at least I have the awareness and I spent time assessing. Why this may be detrimental and then how I can then counteract it? Trello shared another a couple pieces on this. I think they were super interesting about why you should why you should not share goals publicly. So possibility of negative feedback, generally negative feedback doesn't dissuade me too much. And I think generally if you set goals and a couple people giving you feedback to suede, you maybe that wasn't the right goal to begin with or you sort of need to reassess your motivation and why you're trying to accomplish it. Fear of competition, that was sort of another interesting insight. If you, you know, give some feedback and someone says, hey, there's already X doing this or you know, blah blah.You might just say, ah, well, I guess I should quit and not do this goal. And so there's that. Peace. And then there's this idea of and I think they elaborate a little bit more on it in this great article, but personal versus sort of process. If I can find it person in person, let's be smarter about this. Tyler could decrease so this idea of like related to the individual, so feedback related to the individual instead of the actual method taking and so super interesting. Check out that article if you're interested in what Psychology Today recommended, and I linked this as well to is instead of just setting general goals you know they do recommend to keep goals private but set implementation goals instead of those sort of overarching.Lines. And so I actually took that to heart. And while I have these overarching goals, I put an implementation layer into it. And I also put a blockers layer into these goals so that I could say, OK, here's what they need to do to implement these. And these are the actual sort of action items or tasks that I need to do to achieve this overarching goal. And here's the possible blockers that will emerge in this. And I think there's constant iteration, there's learning that will go on from this, but I think it's super, you know, important to think about couple other last things they sort of said about this.Set monthly progress updates. You could probably even do more regular than that, but that's a good one. Quarterly is also really nice. And then convert distracting events, things that could distract you, into queues to help you sort of refocus and stay on target. And obviously I'm doing this as a sort of goal setting exercise for myself, but I'm hoping that this creates value for you and in your own sort of journey. And if in your own goal setting that maybe some method emerges from this, you know, chaotic life and madness, that is myself.But, you know, I'm always on the search for best, way better ways to do this. And maybe there are some insights to help you set your goals and achieve those goals. And that's my goal here today. Wow loop. The part that I also wanted to touch on is this idea of manifesting. And, you know, people, we can talk about the Woo, Woo, we can talk about all that stuff. But I do believe that there is this energy flow in the universe that when you put something out there and maybe it's not even as sort of.You know, abstract is that it's like you put this out there, maybe someone who has capacity to help you reads it and says, wow, I'd like to help or. And then there's the more energy version, which is like, yeah, you print it out there, the universe seems to. Take that energy and then send it and share it around in some way. It can come back. And I've seen that happen many, many times in life. Often it's not in the exact timeline. You're a little bit impatient. You want to accomplish those goals quicker than you know. Then they might actually happen. But I I do believe in that force. I believe in that power and that power that I believe in overwrites. I think some of the, you know, risks associated with sharing goals publicly and the lack of motivation. I think it's up to me to be motivated and to make sure I'm selecting the right goals.And if I do that, then those challenges aren't going to emerge in the same way. I will say it's it is scary to do this. It's can lead to embarrassment. But I think J. Cole says this beautifully. It's like to aim high, you know, aim high, the land low. At least you aimed high and you're probably higher up than if you never aimed at all. So I think that's something really beautiful. I wanted to touch on one thing from the manifestation, layer two, which was Jack Harlow is making that song. Dua Lipa, apparently.Now they're dating. I know this is very material things, but I think that if that's true, man, that's manifestation. And I think that's sort of a hilarious example of doing that. And we've seen that over and over again with artists sort of manifesting things through music or art. And you know, it's such a strong force, I think it's hard to ignore. Quick disclaimer, there are some things that I'm not sharing. I think these are just personal things that.If if you knew what what they were, then you would also be like yeah, you probably shouldn't share that there. You know I think in the future possible to share. But for now I'm not not sharing them. So I'm starting with, OK, I'm starting with personal goals. I realize these are not in order of priority, so that's just the way they are and I just put it into sort of personal and then professional goals and that's probably even maybe two, you know, limited of a scope. I think you should add there's other ways to tackle this and they're sort of spiritual but.And other sort of layers that you can bring, but for me one of them big ones is 10,000 subscribers by the end of 2023 actually originally started with. The goal of YouTube monetization, but that was a goal in 2022. I failed to reach that goal, but I got close. I got 3000 views, 700 subscribers, about 2/3 there, over 2/3 of the goal achieved. And so if I think that I put that as a goal in 2023, I think this is something to ask yourself is like, is this really that, is this an ambitious enough goal where there is some sort of fear of failing? Because if I look at the trends and the data, I should accomplish this as long as I continue to creating and so that's sort of the 1st.Lost on that milestone is YouTube monetization, 1000 subscribers, 4000 hours of watch content and no active community strikes. And I think that that should happen in early to mid 2022 if I keep creating good content, hopefully this is part part of that. However, so far in these series on sort of these grateful predictions, less sort of content and it's really, it's not optimized for search for anything, but I still think they're valuable videos and it's a great way to build relationships with you. And I mean that's what I'm doing here. I'm not just all optimizing for search and traffic.Kind of thing. So I got a lot of work to do. Now, one thing I hate, I'm using elementary on my site here and it breaks out my bullet points. These were beautiful bullet points with spacing and everything. But I sort of talked about this implementation layer. And so a big drive of that is to improve video quality. I'm not going to touch on anything, otherwise this video would be, you know, everything. I'm already at 10 minutes, so I got to be careful. There is improving video quality with that sound camera, the background, green screen, white screen, black screen, there's. I think there's some things that I can do there.Writing a script before filming. Getting a video editor intro and outro graphics clips for TikTok which Tiktok I have some reservations about but can still drive sort of you know some huge growth and adoption of your content and then better banners, titles, descriptions all that good stuff. The blockers in that set and this is sort of laying this out I think you know trying to be do the best of this is I'm going to India at the start of the year could disrupt filming but it could also utilize that successfully. Could run out of ideas and inspiration to continue creating. I could do content that gives me copyright.Rights or content bands have had one little warning here already, and that was an accident. And then poor research and decision making around content. So I could just make bad content, which is ideally not what's going to happen. And the stretch goal, this was interesting. I didn't do this for, I don't think any of the other ones really, but was like 100,000 subscribers by the end of 2023. I need to get some love from the algorithms. I need to do a lot of these things that I talked about from the implementation layer to make that happen. But you know, I've seen a great friend and creator, Nicole Conan, check her out if you want to, especially on TikTok. Awesome videos of her like chopping wood and you know, making some real cool.Stuff during that and she's just shot up in the popularity because of those videos and so I think. Improbable that stretch goal but possibly feasible a couple you know as I move on that was that's the YouTube layer the invest 10% of earnings each month and I think this is something that many of us are recommended and strive to actually don't know exactly how I ended up on the 10% but I'm not doing a good enough job of it. I've got money for the first time in my life and I want to use that money in the right way. You know if you don't have any money that's a problem and then you have money and then that's also a problem. You're not really sure what to do with it. You're trying to maximize the, the.The utility of that cache. And then it's a super interesting environment that we're in right now. So for me to do this, I need to get a financial advisor that I can trust and actually is willing to work with and need to make an actionable plan and sort of bullshit terms. But that's true. And I think a big part is, is once I make the commitment to that plan, the autopilot, so that it automatically happens each month. So I'm not manually doing it, creating a friction point. It's super important to do that. And so I think anyone of us who are, you know, hoping to go down this investment path and it was obviously a tumultuous year in 2022, but maybe 2023 is a good opportunity and how can we set that?Autopilot, you know, average down as we put those investments in. And where should we put our money so I could get, you know, I could just not proceed. I could get overwhelmed with data and just decision paralysis likely in some cases. That's what I'm very good at doing. But I hope that I can persevere through that and come back to you with some results from next year. So a couple other things on this sort of sort of personal finance side, 10,000 Canadian month after taxes. Some people would say this isn't ambitious enough. I like the after taxes part. I think that's an important part of this.Because taxes are huge and in Canada here and I've achieved this in multiple times in my life. I don't exactly know where I am right now because I sort of toggle up and down depending on where we are with PKI. But I I'm predicting a close achievement of this goal but possibly not surpassing it. So certain events are going to have to configure to make this happen and I've got some work to do to to to do it and and so from implementation layer we'll see some of these repeated. So I'm not going to touch on on all of them.Like make more sales, that's OK. That's definitely works successfully raise investment at PKI and I'll talk about that a little bit professionally diversify income. So I think all of us here who want to make more money, we need to diversify how we make money. So I'm obviously, you know working as a owner of the business, it's OK. I I do some sort of consulting and marketing work to generate revenue and try to do it in the right avenues. And then I'm also looking at real estate, other investments and how can I do this. And so and overall I also need to optimize how I use that.Capital and the way that I interact with it so that my tax profile is as you know, optimal as possible and I think that's something that we all strive to do. So if I'm unable to raise funding, reduce expenses and drive sales and reach like break even or profitability with PKI, that runway will decrease. And so I could end up in a situation where I need to reduce my own salary. And then there's this interesting conflict that could emerge where I have this personal goal and then I have this professional goal with speak. And those could start to conflict directly with each other. And so that's when prioritization release starts to happen and that's when you know tough decisions are often made. And so that's something that can possibly emerge here in 2023.And something I'm not fully prepared to deal with yet. So as it gets closer and hopefully it doesn't get closer, that's I'm going to have to figure out a couple other sort of layers. On the personal one is make $1000 from affiliate sales. This is a goal that as I'm creating content I'm trying to figure out we've got an affiliate program at speak, I'm sort of discounting that in this regards. I'm looking more at sort of my personal YouTube channel that I'm doing here that I'm creating this video and watching and also like driving affiliate revenue from like Amazon Web hosting, other software platforms that I can do and so.Is an implementation layer here, is signing up for good affiliate programs, inserting links throughout the content, doing product reviews or creating a high quality content and then just increasing that audience size because you need to create high quality content that audiences will then use to purchase, you know, to recommendations. And I think also there's a way to like create a web page for every product that I sort of buy, say on Amazon. If I bought that product, I believe in it. I did the research. I spent way too much time researching. So maybe I should do that and then add the affiliate link. Now, the one thing that I.Say is that you can screw up with poor affiliate programs, but more it's about it's not pumping your content full of affiliate recommendations and tarnishing your reputation. Your content quality is something that I've seen many people do, unfortunately, something that I don't want to do, and especially in this early stage, it doesn't really make sense. It's not the ideal thing that I want. So on this goal here. Talking about increasing net worth, at one point this was that, you know, sort of striving for a positive net worth.I have this indecisive solution or like sort of resolve of where I am on this. So positive net worth overall with no sort of personal liabilities. But I also have a mortgage which is a substantial mortgage and then also a lease on a vehicle. And so those are payments. There's other payments that I'm responsible for, but some would say, hey, your mortgage, your house isn't appreciating asset, don't count that in that. But when there is mortgage on that, that's debt that is something to think about and you know considering the housing market, the interest rate environment right now that is actually sort of a concern.And so. You know, we do have this belief that considering the location, the quality of the house, the immigration that's happening in Canada, that if we hold on this property for long enough it will appreciate and pay off. But that isn't as certain as a belief that was maybe held at the start of 2022 or maybe the end of 2021. And I sort of talk about implementation layer on this. You just like I think in the end it's like remove expenses, you don't invest in assets that appreciate don't lose money on your investments, take a salary that covers all expenses and leave room for that investment and then diversify the income streams there too. I think in the end it's just like make more money than you spend and this goal sort of making 200,000 Canadian and personal income sort of aligns with that after tax piece and again a little bit of conflict.Here are between personal and professional and just as you know for your reference it's like when you're in the stage of the company that I'm in doesn't necessarily make sense to draw that much of a salary out of your business. A lot of you know found or sort of investors would say don't do that. But as a founder you have responsibilities, you're trying to pay for your mortgage, you're trying to build a family, you're trying to make investments. So you're there's this dichotomy and sort of conflict and tension in that. And so again depending on how we execute with PKI there could be a conflict within.That personal goal here of income versus the reality of what can be done through PK on in that case diversified income streams need to be done, investment needs to be raised and there may be other, yeah, other ways that revenue needs to be generated. So Matt, this sort of switching gears a little bit, this is still personal, but Hindi fluency is something that I want to increase. I don't know what percentage I want to be fluent. So I don't have that clarity on it, but I've been using Duolingo 100 days today. Super excited about that. I feel like my grasp of the language, the structure of sentences, the ability to pick up words and phrases from you know, conversations has improved. But I got a long way to go and as soon as I talk to someone who's actually speaking Hindi blackout forget everything. So I got some work to do. But the goal is to keep my dual lingo Stroop alive when I'm in India, to just immerse myself in Hindi practice as much as I can with Monica. Use Google Translate, which is amazing tool. And then I think one thing that happens when you're trying to learn a language is you're like.Tired to say things because you feel like you're not pronouncing it right or you're missing. You know you're not doing right and that fear blocks you from learning. And I've had that discussion with a couple other people, one friend who just moved to Germany. And so I need to commit and I need to try, and I need to not be embarrassed. And maybe I'm pronouncing things wrong. You need if you can try, then that's better than not trying at all. So I'm at.19 minutes already. Oh my God. Fitness and well-being goals. Let's do it. 15% body fat. I'm fat right now. I'm sick between like 22% and 26% of leaning on that higher end after Christmas. So I mean from the implementation layer, and I have sort of these all grouped together. First of all, I need to do some of these measurements up front so that I know exactly where I'm at and then have a process to be able to measure and make, you know, see that difference. So there's the 15% body fat, 30 inch stomach width and then 195 in terms of weight. That's sort of my ideal.Weight profile that takes me back to my hockey days. Cut, lean, strong and I think is healthy for me. So to do that then I'm set up this implementation layer because that's a great goal to have. But if you don't have the tactile ways to achieve it, then you're just setting up goals that you're not going to achieve. And so I need to run 3 kilometers at least three times per week. I'm doing that. I have been doing that. I had a little toe incident, but that's now got heavyweights I think is a super important part of this. So three times per week for that. So.That means that I need to actually drive to a real gym where I can do squats, I can do good bench press and just instead of just sort of the small weights that I have to house, really focusing on those heavyweights. That's a super part, important part of getting to the muscle density that I also want, which maybe should be a goal. I'm pretty good at fasting, but I'm drinking a lot of Chai in the morning that's very heavily milk based, so I'm sort of breaking my fast and, you know, just bringing a bunch of bad stuff into me right in the morning. So I got to stop that. I've got to stop eating after 8:00 PM and then I've got a drink.4 liters of water per day. All of those are, you know, important sort of implementation layers for me to achieve that goal now. In this regard. I've got a blocker here, which is this continued food and sugar addiction, and I'm fighting it. I'm fighting hard on it. And I'm also an emotional eater. I lack an ambition when I'm traveling and events and I need to get over that. And so, you know, this is a super difficult thing that I've struggled with for many, many years, and I'm trying to figure that out. And I think there's actually maybe some, some mental work or some therapy work that needs to go into that to make it successful. So.I'm spending some time on that in 2023 and hopefully I can come back with some of these goals achieved and you'll be seeing a better looking, healthier version of myself. That's the idea in the end is better healthy health wise, better well-being. I didn't touch enough on some of the spiritual layers of elements that I want to accomplish in 2023 in this, but I think that's an important one. I need to crystallize some of those goals. Some of those are set up for 2024, but you need to just can't just have a year without any spiritual work, any healing work. So I will be working on that and so.I was thinking maybe I should break this into. New videos. So I'm going to actually end this here, and I'm going to do personal goals for 2023. I'm going to stop recording and I'm going to fire this up. And so if you're interested in professional goals that we have, that I have here at speak AI and you're interested more in that layer, I'll have a video and I'll break those two apart so you can check that out. This was sort of my personal goal.Layer I hope that you got some sort of insights out it. I do have some super interesting I'll jump for it and just sort of close this out with some fun time, which I think is. These are goals that I said without failure, fear of failure or embarrassment. And I think while these goals above that I've shared with you, especially on that person, are real goals, there's sort of this realism layer. There's this practicality, there's fear of being overambitious and the shame of sort of stating these unrealistic goals, especially within this timeline, are all sort of prevalent. And so.I wanted to share a couple of goals that I, you know, truly have that you know, are scary to share, but that I think are are true. They're honest. And so one is to pay off my mortgage. I believe that's a version of financial freedom, and paying off a mortgage is a big version of that, and that's a. Significant tasks that I have to do and, you know, along with that goes. And you know, it feels weird to be so materialistic in this regards of making $1,000,000 personally in a year. But money is time, time is freedom. The idea of being a millionaire is a is a valuable goal sort of instilled from the time, you know, we're young and growing up. I have things that conflict with what it takes to accomplish this, but overall it's still a goal that I have and it allows me to accomplish these other things that are part of my life.I also said I want to get 1,000,000 subscribers on YouTube, and I think that I have this core belief in YouTube. I think it's a, you know, powerful thing. There is this vanity metric to it, but I think it shows that I'm actually capable of creating something valuable in this world and that there's a meaningful audience who likes that content. And at the core of that, they like me. And if you're watching this video right now, you're stuck with me for 24 minutes of personal goal setting, then I that means a lot to me. Truly, truly, truly does and.And then lastly on that big one, and I probably have so many of these dream stretch vision goals whatever they are, but it's to travel to three countries in 2023. So 2022 the travel bug got me got delayed. You know, before the pandemic never sort of really. You know these goals that I had around travel never crystallized before that I was in a basement, heads down, not really doing anything. And this year in 2022, I was able to do Burning Man. I was going to Portugal for Web Summit, Oakland and San Francisco for Founder CON 2023. I'm going to India and there's a.Other few trips that I hope may emerge. So I'm really focusing on not trying to be overwhelmed when it comes to travel and just understanding that you know, enjoying the experience, not worrying about like losing productivity and that these are important moments in life. Are you know are are realizations that I'm continuing to try to build and instill in me and I think are very important to a life full of success and lack of regret when you finally move on from this world. So these were my personal goals for. 2023, I hope you got some insight and hopefully you know some things around sort of the challenges of sharing goals publicly, the ideas of manifestation, the opportunity to build implementation in and not just having the goals, and then even maybe identifying blockers that will emerge. But, that isn't the full truth. The truth is I've tried to raise capital from investors and have struggled with that a lot. I've been successful with grants, tax credits, and investments from government institutions but I still haven't quite figured out the final few keys to unlock outside capital being invested at decent terms and with the right people.However, to continue Speak Ai in the way that I want, a capital raise seems like it will be required. We don't just want to survive we want to grow. We recently finished the Techstars Toronto Accelerator Program and with Techstars Demo Day, we actually got some pretty decent attention we may be able to capitalize on. With that in mind, it is possible to achieve this goal earlier than originally intended or maybe even desired.Implementation1. Close deals with currently interested investors 2. Continue to grow traction and create high-quality monthly updates 3. Complete high-quality data room to drive quick and successful due diligence 4. Get introductions from investors, mentors, and peers 5. Leverage Techstars credibility and network to identify qualified investors
BlockersThere are some mental conflicts I have with accepting investments, specifically from venture capital that I believe has kept this from crystallizing. If you have skepticism, seem unclear or undecisive, are unable to answer questions, or seem to lack confidence smart people can see it and will not invest in you. There are problems with the venture capital model itself with investors having expectations of companies they invest in reaching $100 million in revenue in a very short timeline. If you do not, they would often rather see you fail as a company for the tax write-off than become a "zombie company".To fully achieve this, I need to break this mental barrier, make a commitment, stay focused, and not stop until it's done.Other blockers are:1. Lack of sufficient materials in our data room 2. Inability to articulate the story, go-to-market strategy, and differentiation 3. Losing momentum with traction metrics 4. Poor closing skills with investors 5. Market environment stopping investors from investing
Hit $1 million annual recurring revenue (ARR)This is another big ambitious goal that will be difficult to achieve in our current model at Speak Ai and market conditions. However, to validate I am capable of generating a business that can grow and be self-sustaining large revenue is required.There is a lot of heart and strategic execution required to do this and I have to seriously self-assess if this is possible and desired in 2023.Implementation1. Get more sign-ups to Speak (ideally 100 to 500 per day) 2. Increase the free trial conversion rate of Speak (from ~1% to 5%) 3. Increase the average annual deal size and lifetime value of Speak customers 4. Create more high-quality content at scale 5. Find talented sales leaders to drive inbound and outbound sales 6. Systemizing sales into a repeatable and profitable process
Blockers1. Lack of focus and execution 2. Giving up if not seeing success early 3. Hiring the wrong person/people 4. Making poor product development, sales, and marketing decisions 5. Lack of funding to invest in building and selling
Pay off CERB LoanThis was a loan that was taken out on the business at the start of COVID when serious measures came into place and physical locations were shut down. Many businesses took this loan. For us, it was a $40,000 CAD loan, $10,000 of which is considered a grant if the $30,000 is paid back before December 31st, 2023.That is why this loan has some urgency on it and is on the goals of the 2023 list.Implementation1. Keep money reserved for paying off the CERB loan safe 2. Drive sales and reach break-even or profitability

Produce a successful generative AI projectThis goal is also a bit unclear but at the end of 2022, we did a generative AI release at Speak Ai. The keyword in this goal to me is successful, but I haven't defined what success is yet so I will be iterating on this throughout the year to find clarity and confidently feel like it is accomplished at the end of 2023.Implementation1. Continue to embed generative AI capabilities in Speak 2. Create the content on large language models and generative AI 3. Experiment with new releases and share insights as soon as possible 4. Market generative AI successfully to Speak users and prospective customers

Automated Video Transcript By SpeakHello, hello, hello. Tyler Braden here wishing you a happy New Year. Before the new year closed, I had started making a video around goals for 2023. As got part right through that video, I was on sort of the personal goal set and I was like, wow, this video is getting long. I'm getting nervous, I'm starting to talk fast. I'm not starting to elaborate on these goals as much as I'd like. And so I decided, hey, in the moment I'm going to split this into here, his personal goals and here's professional goals. And I think one of the overarching sort of missions in my life that has sort of. Had some conflicts sometimes that I really want to merge my professional and personal life and and so sometimes it's really hard to sort of separate these personal and professional goals and lives in in my life and I think many of our our lives. But it's interesting because you also once you start to build a really strong personal life that you love then you do want to also create some separation. So that's just an interesting trend that I've seen emerge especially as it maybe gotten a little bit older as I have a lovely partner a lovely dog you know you're.
Their love for your family grow is even more you really do want to carve out that time in a in a different way and and so while I'm speaking about these professional goals in this video today there is definitely an important place for these sort of personal goals to have priority in my life as well too. And I do have you know if you are interested in more of the personal goal side again the videos were sort of made to not obviously they're. You know, reflection for me and some time for me to sort of, you know, build this habit of creating goals, setting, trying to set them right. Sharing them publicly and having some accountability on them I talk about in this video you can see here I have like there's some, you know, some challenges around sharing goals publicly and how it can you know remove motivation but then also shared about and again links there and everything, but also shared about, you know, manifesting and the idea of that and putting out your goals in the universe and how powerful of a thing that that can be. And so as always links are there. I've made a couple other videos sort of just rounding up sort of a 2022.Your theme and and sort of you know what's coming for 2023. So some predictions, what am I grateful for and then this personal goals. But today we're moving on to professional goals for 2023. I'm going to try to elaborate on these as best as I can and if you're maybe a founder, you're an entrepreneur, you're running a startup, you're running a company. Maybe this really starts to resonate with you. Some of these goals if they do please send me a note and even if you're not you know I think it's super interesting to see sort of goal setting.Frameworks and maybe you get some insights along the way and for anyone who has been following the journey of myself and and speak I you know maybe this is an insightful look at you know what I'm thinking about for 2023. And you know for anyone who doesn't know PKI is the company that I cofounded with an incredible man named Batshaw. Coming up we have 10,000 people on the platform where some great names using it and we've built this since 2020 a software that basically automatically transcribes and. Analyzes audio, video and text data takes sort of like unstructured language information that's often very qualitative and turns it into quantitative information and insights that can be shared and reported on really easily. And the goal there is like to unlock sort of actionable recommendations, give you competitive advantages and if you're working with customers, build better relationship the customers and just help make better decisions. And so we been working on this for a long time and in the early stages, I mean building.Software is much more difficult than building a website, I can tell you that. And so there's been a lot of building and now it's we're in this really interesting time where we've got almost, yeah, 10,000 people here with 10,000 people who have signed up for the platform. And, you know, we're trying to say, hey, how can we, you know, put this into a really good position? And at this say the flow is there, we're trying to understand why people are signing up better, how to get them to get more. Value out of the platform, getting them signed up and paying for subscriptions and then, you know, continuing to create more value. So the size of those subscriptions increases and more people on their team use it and they continue to get more value out of it. So we've done some super interesting, you know, things. I guess that's a personal thing, but I think that we have done a really good job as a small team. You see, I'm scrolling through all my personal goals here and there's a little teaser. I guess I got mad at elementor for removing my bullet points.But I'll talk about those professionals I've got a screenshot of here at that speaking. The first one and then again, no real, I mean I guess maybe there's some thoughts around the priority here, but I didn't actually list them in priority, I just wrote them down and this was all taken from a Google sheet that sort of helps me sort of plan out my life. And I talk about that in the personal goals video as well too. And in this case the one of the goals is raise over $1,000,000 in capital. And interesting I had set this a little bit later, but for you know many reasons this is an important sort of next step in the business for speak. I think we want to see that it's.You know, I think we want to see that it's a good enough traction of a business that is is ready for additional capital to be invested and we can use that capital efficiently. We want to be able to show that we can articulate the vision of what we're doing here at JFK. I show that we can differentiate and you know make this an exciting and meaningful investment for anyone who's involved. And you know I've I've tried to raise capital from specifically I would say more venture capitals venture capitalists and in general that have struggled with now I've been successful with grants, tax credits like even investments from like OC I which said it invested government institution here in Canada and then. Leverage lots of great you know, sort of like Iraq and things like that but from actual sort of venture capitalists had some interaction with Angel investors who maybe I should even be prioritizing, you know, more if I want to see this goal achieved.You know, it's been a it's been a difficult thing and I think it's a reflection of where we are in the business. But I actually think ultimately it's a reflection of myself and a reflection of, you know, everything say it's more reflection of myself because I'm usually the one presenting, talking about sharing the mission. That's what I think has lots of, you know, you know, credibility as a CTO who's built this incredible software. But you know, we don't come from these big name schools or have you know other exits or anything like that. And so there's some things working against us.From that credibility standpoint and if I'm failing to articulate the, you know, the mission, the ambition, the goals, the opportunity here, then that is truthfully on me. And I think many people would say, well, Tyler, I would agree, like, you know, in past years, 202020 and 2021 seemed to have been an easier, you know, a really good time to raise capital. Whereas as the market has changed, 2022 has gotten, you know, really difficult to be a fundraising environment. Valuations have dropped the multiples. Evaluations on revenue has dropped significantly and great. Thank you Norton. You know I can't believe Windows still that's Norton pop up like this and you know overall like it's it's been harder. The due diligence has taken longer. There's a lot of things going you know probably not in the positive directions for say a first time founder trying to raise money. But that being said there is a great software platform that we've built. We've validated there's traction, there's actual.OK. Customers the growth this year was in in many metrics was actually quite strong. But then we're also looking at you know a great sort of I guess you know headwind which I think was it was articulated really interestingly by Salesforce about you know basically companies that are removing the number of seats and say maybe even having people logging in on the same, you know maybe logging on the same emails to reduce the team size so their subscription cost. Every company is looking at, hey, what subscriptions are necessary and what are not. So if you're truly trying to achieve traction and success and growth that you need to be sort of mission critical in the year that is coming. And you know there's a lot of companies that maybe even failing. And so people who are predicting, you know, their revenue sort of their annual recurring revenue a year out have been even recommended to maybe drop that because they don't know exactly how some of their customers are going to do and so they might need to pull that back.And then almost, you know, start say if it's 80%. That stay on from the 100 that you would have predicted, you're going to have to build those customer base back up in a difficult environment where you know most people predict a recession is coming if we aren't already in one and it could be you know in between pretty bad and like really, really bad. So that's also going to affect how this plays out. So for us it's interesting we've done this Toronto Techstars accelerator program. I'll pull a link here just so you can take a look and I think it was a really worthwhile.Experience and we did do our demo day at the video, should have linked the video, actually have the pitch video in here. But after that we got a lot more interest and attention than I actually thought. So a lot of meetings have been set up with investors and you know it's up to me to again execute on these. I could have these meetings, all of them could pass and I could come back to you here and whatever time period and say, well, you know we had some good leads but we didn't quite execute the way that we wanted or maybe it wasn't the right fit, the right time somebody variables and factories go on it but that. Which has been a little bit bigger than we thought, continue to get people reaching out to us and then tech stars is continuing to push our company and team. And so I talked about this in the previous video. There's this goal, it's $1,000,000 in capital. I haven't figured out exactly the configuration of this because it could be say some Angel investment, could be some VC, it could be grants that are given out, it could be investments from a government institutions like we've seen before, which maybe have, you know, less stiff.Roy, the goal is you want the capital to survive, you know, at least say 24 months, but you're also not trying to dilute the company too much, but you also then want to have the team that you need to be able to execute on the vision that you have. And so all of these things sort of run in parallel. They also conflict. And so you're working through that on an ongoing basis to figure out what is the optimal path to take. And Rollie, as a founder, that comes down to how much. So you know, how much can you, what valuation can you get on your company. And a lot of people don't want to get caught up in these things.You know, there are some things to think about here because if what valuation can you get on your company, that's one fight that you're sort of having or one thing that you're setting. But then what we've seen as the market has sort of struggled a bit is if you raise it too high of evaluation, it's going to be hard to continue to raise at increased valuations, especially in this market. Now if you have two years, you can accomplish a lot in those two years and maybe you can set yourself, you know, up for a really good next fundraise. And generally if you are fundraising, a lot of companies would say hey. Now moved or a lot of people would say move towards break even and profitability which is the overall recommendation in today's market, but at the same time.Most companies do raise successive rounds of funding if that is their plan for growth and ultimately to be the big enough company to get the returns that people investing in from especially the VC side demand. So all these factors are coming into play. You know, maybe it's more, you know, more valuable for me to then actually say focus on Angel investors and see their appetite for investing us and reaching this number with still ideal, you know, significant returns but not in the same ballpark. Of the 100X or whatever that VC is looking for. And so when I look at this implementation layer, something I talked about in the last video, looked at, you know, first of all need to close these deals with currently interested investors and make sure these terms are right and everything there continue to grow traction and create high quality monthly updates. So one of the things that I recommend if you are on this journey and you're looking at raising funding is creating a monthly update, you know, trying to make that as high quality as possible. Some people have different sort of, you know, thoughts around this I've always gotten.The feedback on that list is growing for me about to about 800 people that I send. It's a nice little monthly update with some traction, some, you know, images of graphs, what's next, some really interesting sort of teasers and things like that. Maybe some testimonials and just a lot of good pieces that show the traction, show that you're doing the work, show that you're consistent. And so if you are on this journey, I I do recommend that. Another one that is a big part of this is this high quality sort of data room and you need to have this to drive due diligence, which is of course as I mentioned is increasing.So to have a good data room ready at your disposal that you can flip out, give what they need and not more than they need, but then is also you know instills confidence in them as they look to those documents is super important. Overall, I think that you are trying to continue to get introductions from an investment standpoint. It's much easier if you can get an introduction from someone who maybe has received investment from that investor and done well in the past or overall referral based into this space is really good one and use and leverage the power of your network to get these introductions. Whether, again, it's a VC, it's an Angel investor, it's a government institution. Those relationships are super important and you know, definitely need to lean on those in 2022 and ideally at the start of the year. You know, where I'm driving through as this sort of time boxing element as I take a journey to India and figure all this out and I'm definitely not Sam, whatever, all bankman freed playing League of Legends while I'm talking to investors. But there is this interesting balance that is emerging for me and I think of.Very important time for us as speak. I'm lastly, I think I talked about this actually, but like leverage that Techstars credibility from the demo day. I think that's a huge network. There's a lot of valuable people in it and you know I think overall that's something that is important in this implementation layer. Now I talk about the blockers here and this is something I did for the personal goals on this and I know I'm going pretty in depth on this goal as a whole, but this is a sort of a huge weight that you know is sitting on.Myself, and I think sitting on many people, if you're a founder, if you're in startups, you know something to think about. So I've, I have, you know, skepticism about the model of venture capital. I think a lot of people do. And but when you have that skepticism where if you seem clear, undecisive, you maybe that comes off as lacking confidence or you're unable to answer questions, people can see, especially if they're smart, they're investors, they're not going to invest in you. And and then generally there are still these expectations of venture capital model, I think.Adjusted where they're saying, hey, if you can grow two times that's just as good and any two times in a year that's just as good as three times as a year, two years ago. But ideally they're still seeing you skyrocket on growth. And yes, there is more focus on growth and or sorry profitability and sort of revenue generation than in the past because of the sort of market conditions we're in. But they sometimes want to see you, you know, they almost see you fail. For the tax write off then become what this idea of a zombie company. So take a look into some of those thoughts if you have and I'm more than happy to chat about that. I think I've talked about these in a couple of previous videos and just other blockers lack of like again bad data room inability to articulate for us it's the story why are we doing this, how we doing us, what's the mission that go to market strategy, how do we go to market in this and especially in this market. And then I think differentiation as a whole because it's a you know it's a competitive space that a lot of people are hearing things about and a lot of people investing in but that also creates a bubble.Creates nervousness around the, the hyper competitiveness of it, the saturation of it and and I think that that's going to continue and I still question that for any market, but it's a trend that has come up with us. Couple last things are like losing momentum with traction metrics. So if our attraction starts to fade, that's a difficult thing to talk about and maybe there's some understanding about the market conditions, but overall a super difficult thing. Just generally poor sales I guess for my side and then the end investment is sales. I don't have good closing skills with investor which I feel I don't have that skill set at the time. I have it better with customers than I do and even with customers sometimes it's not ideal, but they're much usually smaller, at least right now smaller numbers than what I'm investor might be doing. And then the last part there is the market environment, but there also are some sort of thoughts that with valuations becoming more fair, more due diligence, dry powder, sort of capital sitting on the sideline that needs to be invested that this may be.A decent year for investors to invest in businesses and if you can sort of set that scenario up properly, there is still a chance for you to move forward successfully. So that is one big goal and I promise these are sort of I had more sort of smaller chunks for the personal goals this I've just got a couple sort of big ones that I'm I'm touching on. This next one is the hit 1,000,000 in annual recurring revenue and this is a R annual annual Conrad makes sense is a big ambitious goal. It's it's something that I'm trying to think about at the you know with the current model that speaking with speak you can sort of like go and you can customize plans. It's this great you know software as a service free sort of this model where you can self sign up you can get the free trial you can do that and and and it's allowed us to.Get clients at a, you know at a pretty good rate and customers at a pretty good rate. Get a lot of data, get a lot of feedback and understand how people are using speak and and that's been super, super helpful, but we've also. And we've sort of adhered to this product LED growth idea. And with that we've seen success in this journey and especially with sort of the, you know, the, you know the the sort of funnel of like getting people to hear about us then sign up for the free trial and then test it. And then if that test goes well and there's value proposition there, then signing up for the paid plan. But what we're finding in that product flow especially maybe in the market that we're in is that it's hard to get.The conversion rate that you want and it's hard to get the the the deal size that you want. And I think that's something that we're working through this year. And you know there's a lot of sort of really sort of strategic self-assessment of how to do this. And one of them as an example which which is counterintuitive is that we don't let people sign just an example. We don't let people sign up. We actually make them do a demo with us or at least maybe a subset of customers to do a demo with us because.What we're finding in user interviews and customer interviews, they're not understanding a lot of the valuable functionality that's in the system because it's sort of hidden and that's up to us to then increase the improve the onboarding experience and the discoverability of the value within the platform, but then also to educate people properly and maybe part of that is the demo when a conversation. So from that implementation side, it's need to get more signups. Right now we're at like say 50 signups a day, that's a good day for us and a lot of that's coming through organic search. We've got some Facebook ads running, got some Google ads. Meaning that all sort of accumulates. We're we want to see hundred, we want to see 500 per day and ideally if we can get that free trial rate to 1% then we're seeing or sorry the free trial conversion rate is already around 1%. If we can increase that more and then sort of increase those signups we are going to see.New customers signing up every single day, revenue being generated every day and that's a great spot. That's obviously the spot that we want to be in. We do think this is a big market whereas multi language capabilities that we're building and there's a lot of good stuff on its way that's going to allow us to do that. And I think we're continuing to release features, continuing to rank on SEO and continuing to find other channels to drive acquisition. But then there's that work to do on the actual acquisition of user sign up to paid user and you know a couple other things.On this or just creating more high quality content at scale, that's something we worked at. It's hard with the team size that we have. So we're trying to figure out the best way to do that and there's some interesting things that we're doing right now that I'll share another piece. I think there is this need for sales people and for anyone who's doing product LED growth. It is a beautiful thing, but I do think it's a bit of an anomaly that you can fully.Drive growth to get to where you want to be on a self-serve basis. And so we need a, you know, inbound, a sales Rep to talk to the valuable subset of people who are signing up for our platform every day as well as start to build that outbound sales process that is repeatable, that's profitable and that's the next point on that is systemizing sales into a repeatable and profitable process. And you know with those things if executed right in the right timeline there is the chance of this goal happening. But I think there's also some things for us. To do and you know if I look at blockers from a security and compliance standpoint, maybe ISO, sock too and things like that's why we've looked at the investment to be able to achieve that quicker. I just think overall lack of focus and execution. I think if we are doing you know sales person there we hiring the right person for this and we've struggled with this in the past and it was a much earlier stage where we didn't exactly know who was selling for. We didn't have that many data points. We were lucky to get 50 people signed up about not 50 people a day.So that's another thing and I think overall we could. And you know, we've been in the ballpark of getting it right where we're making decisions about product development and sales and marketing. You know, we generally get it somewhat right, but I think they're, you know, it's always a risk of making poor decisions and we're trying to mitigate that risk by talking to users, talking to customers so that we're building the product that they want that actually creates value and when the value is created there is you know, the opportunity for revenue generation. And so the last part there I think of on the blocker is just like lack of funding. Whether that's self funding it ourselves or taking on additional capital.To invest and I say it you know all the time to people now is we're in the stage right now. We're building, we're selling, that's all we're really doing and and so we're going to continue to to do that. And if we don't have the capital to do that or we don't execute this early enough maybe especially some of that capital raise or figure out some things, then the end of the year could be you know a difficult you know difficult time. So we want to make sure that that's avoided and a couple last things that that I'm touching on here. Go quickly over this one, just a loan that you took on the business. This is one that many took which nice, that's not personal reliable, but there's a super interesting one. It was a Serb loan that, you know, there was parallels to this in many countries. We took one that was I think it was $40,000. It was $40,000.10 of 1000, which was very nice of Canada, which was considered a grant if 30,000 is paid back before December 31st, 2023. So we're going to see what happens with this, especially depending on where the market goes. But the reason why this was on this Google sheet list is because that deadline and so there's some, some sort of urgency.But in the end, you know, we'll see at the time and as that date arrives, which will be the right action to take with this, I'm still not sure as I'm sort of looking at. And then my last one, I did talk about this fun time. I've got some goals here that were the fun time. Those were my personal goal lists. I'll just end on this sort of last goal from a professional standpoint, that is to produce a successful generative AI project. And if you know me, you have seen, you know, content all around.This stuff, I've been following it for a long time. There was even early prototype videos of me hacking away at what I would consider generative AI through very simple functions a few years ago, and I just didn't know exactly how quickly and amazingly this was going to come in. I haven't truly defined what. What sort of success is in this journey if you you know haven't seen we did do this sort of speak I magic prompts where you can actually leverage prompts and that's what the big large language models to get like incredible sort of responses and concise answers and super interesting things that are coming out of this. So I actually feel like this was a a goal that I had, but I didn't exactly know what it looked like and I still don't. But we're already taking the steps from the implementation layer by embedding and speak creating content around it.I'm, you know, experimenting with new releases and new prompts. We're sharing insights as quick as possible because I think there's a huge education component to this. And then obviously it's up to us to market and do this properly. And there's even some technical limitations with these systems around, you know, character limits that you can analyze at once. So how can you analyze longer files? Compile that context altogether to make, you know, meaningful outputs without, you know, if you have, you know, say, transcript is split into four things and four.For chunks, it doesn't have that understanding of each chunk. And so you say you want a summary, but it has to split each chunk. You have 4 summaries. So then what you might need to do is then say, hey, summarize these four summaries, but how much are you abstracting the understanding away and how accurate is the actual output? So these are some of the interesting things that we're thinking from already, a technical limitation layers. We've seen our customers and users interact with these prompts. And you know, I think just a couple last ones are just like the speed of this market is just going crazy.So Umm, you know, we could see, we could fail, we could fail to execute. We could see the sort of market opportunity fade away. I think this is going to be a very bubbly market. And this year a lot of people move from, you know, crypto and even FT to AI and generative AI. It's a hot space right now. Everyone wants a piece of it. And when that happens, you know, the competition rages and you know it can be a difficult spot to be in and lots of companies will be successful, but lots of companies will fail. Technical limitations as I touched on. And then yeah, just like.Failures to find differentiators, because if everyone can simply hook into these systems, then where's our differentiation sitting within the stack? So super interesting those are. I mean, I know those are, it's only like 4 goals, but those are what I found in the past, is that the more goals you have, the more diluted your effort gets, the more diluted your focus gets. And those can all be, you know, harmful. To you wanting to see your main ones go forward. So I've talked a little bit about prioritization in the last in the last video in sort of our business we also use this OK R model which is super interesting. If you are you know if you want to check out this that which you know companies like Google, Netflix, a lot of great.Sort of organizations who are set precedents in success have used it. And so we use this for setting. So there are more subtasks for achieving these goals, but you need to have the overarching sort of vision to then be able to successfully complete the, you know, the milestones that you need to actually get there. So this was my, I guess, professional goals for 2023 video. I hope you got some sort of insight from it. You can see a little bit about what I'm focused on. I hope that.If any of those goals aligned with anything that you're having in your life that they may be helped you think about it or, you know, set you up for maybe a way to lay it out that resonates with you. And overall, I just as always just appreciate anyone who follows these logs. I know these videos are a little more sort of personal to me and I'm sort of sharing that, but I think it's a sort of important meditation, important time, especially at the start of the year. You know, we're about to jump back in depending on who you know who you are and what you're doing. Companies that have raised money in the past at too high of a valuation will need to take a massive down round, seek alternative sources of funding, get acquired or will fail as a whole.There Will Be A RecessionNot sure how big and long of a recession but it is on its way. Inflation is continuing and the blunt instrument of interest rates is not impacting it like the Fed and Bank of Canada hoped. There is still some time for the impact to sink in but until then interest rates will be a difficult game that will drive us into a recession.Interest Rates Will Rise Or Only Drop Slightly If LuckyMy partner Monika and I got hurt like many of us by unexpected severe interest rate hikes in 2022. We went from a 0.99% rate to more than a 4.25% interest rate.If inflation continues, the Fed and Bank of Canada will have no choice but to continue to raise rates or hold them steady. At the very brightest scenario, we may see a small decrease in interest rates at the end of 2023 but I’m not going to hold on to optimism for that.Generative AI Will Continue To ExplodeOpenAI and Stability AI had two of the biggest years I’ve ever seen a company have.Some would also put Jasper and Cohere in the same bracket.Generative AI supports a core human desire for creativity, laziness, and instant gratification that will not go away any time soon.Business cases will emerge with more fine-tuning of models. Interest will continue to skyrocket with these technologies reaching more of a mainstream audience and finding interaction in everyday lives.GPT-4 will be released in the next couple of months—and yes, it will be a big deal.Text-To-Video And Text-To-Audio Will Emerge In FullPhenaki, Runway ML, Stability Ai, Imagen Video, and Facebook Text-To-Video were all revealed to the public in 2022.The validation is already there both on the technology side and people’s drive to interact.There Will Be A Massive Technological BreakthroughNot sure from who or in what field.I have an inkling that it will be in climate as vast amounts of money and energy get put into the space.I am not counting the natural language processing, generative AI, and large language models technology in this because I already know that will continue to innovate at insane speeds.Think of the nuclear fusion proof point at the end of 2022 as an example of that.A conflict between remote and in-person workTwitter, Apple, Google, and other large companies that others look to for leadership have had their belief in fully remote work is conducive to success and culture in a post-pandemic world.While many workers have enjoyed the convenience of remote work, the economy has shifted and companies have pressure on them to improve productivity with a focus on revenue generation and profit in a way that was lost for several years in an environment filled with cheap and freshly-printed cash.In 2023, these forces will collide. We’ve already seen instances of that at Apple. YouTube VideoIn 2022, I made a publicly-available goal setting list. I still don't share it much so it's a bit hard to find but it's been a valuable exercise that has helped me prioritize what I want to accomplish in life.More than that, I've labelled the goals by priority and when I want to complete them. Going through that exercise specifically was challenging but enlightening and led to some quick execution of goals that had been weighing on me for a long time.Here are the goals I achieved from my Goal Setting list in 2022:1. Below, I'll break these achievements down further.My beautiful partner MonikaMonika has been a driving change in my life. Our love continues and grows and I cannot imagine life without her.She fills me with so much joy, makes me laugh every day, and positively pushes me to be a better version of myself.She encourages me to be myself and supports my crazy ideas right up to the moment when they should no longer be supported.I learn about myself through her never-ending wisdom. I find her deeply inspiring, resilient, and beautiful.In 2023, we will continue our journey together with an extended trip to her home in India.I am excited about that and many more memories in a relationship that I hope has many years ahead.The love of my first dog TejaIn late 2021, Monika and I got a gorgeous little fluffball cockapoo named Teja.In 2022, my relationship with him became even more rewarding.Teja has become more affectionate, we understand each other better, and we've built routines together that drive predictable moments of joy and love.One of those, in particular, is a run that we do together to the water. With Teja there, I forget about the hardships of running and I smile and laugh every moment as he bounces beside me.Teja wakes me up every morning at 8:19 AM if I am not already up and although I don't always want to get up, I smile, roll over and make my way downstairs to throw the ball, hug, and play.FamilyThe older you get the more you cherish and value your family. While I have never been further away physically (a whole 2 hours), I feel closer to them and am so thankful to have a relatively healthy, caring, and normal family.There were a couple of moments in the year for the family.My Grandpa Was HospitalizedMy grandpa ended up in the hospital in late 2022 after an infection in his foot put him in a delirious state where he struggled deeply with memory and understanding of the present moment. It was a difficult moment for my family and one that I struggled with. I was away in San Fransisco for a conference and the family went through the experience, spending every day in the hospital with him and facing challenging thoughts as his mental state declined. The family didn't tell me because they didn't want to disturb my trip. While that was a nice gesture, it was a difficult realization that any distance from home can make you miss crucial moments in your family's lives.Luckily, my Grandpa is healing but the state my family saw him in has created a lot of worries and we are not sure what the future holds. My grandpa to this day remains one of the smartest people I've ever met and I miss sitting down on the ground and listening to his powerful storytelling and a deep well of knowledge. It is hard to see the people you love and who were so capable start to age and lose the person they once were.It is a lesson to cherish the moments you have, respect that time in this world is finite, and love as deeply as you can. Although my grandpa punches me in the stomach every time I hug him, I will keep hugging.My Sister Got EngagedMy beautiful sister Dana got engaged to a great guy this year. This was a huge moment for the family. Dana and I had a tough childhood seeing the trauma a bad marriage can create and for a long time, Dana did not want to get married or have kids. I have felt the same way at many points in my life.But, what this shows, and what I have experienced myself, is that when you meet the right person the inhibitions fade away.TravelBurning ManI was so excited to returned after a 3-year hiatus.Burning Man 2022 was a difficult journey in comparison to 2019: we faced extreme heat, dust storms, wind, an 11-hour exodus and high expectations.A few things that really stood out to me from 2022 was my experience at Burning Man, in which I shared several videos. I went with the intention to dance to the fullest extent after the rigidity and self-consciousness I felt dancing at Burning Man in 2022. And boy, did I ever dance.Portugal For Web SummitWe went to Portugal for Web Summit. This was an incredible 10-day experience that helped me achieve two intentions at once: professional success and personal travel experience. It honestly doesn't get much better than that. There are many stories I can regale on this but for now, I will just say that I love Portugal and if you go, go to Sintra and explore some of the castles there. Eat the tarts but don't eat as many as I did.San Francisco For FounderConVatsal and I also attended FounderCon which is an event put on by Techstars in Oakland, California.This also allowed us to explore San Fransisco a place Vatsal and I had both never been yet dreamed of going to.We've both been deeply inspired by the innovation in California and since I left I've daydreamed of being back many times.The CottageMom invited us up to the cottage for an amazing weekend over July long weekend (which is also her birthday weekend).Buying my first houseYears of dreaming of by my first house. Together, Monika I achieved that in late 2021 and then moved into our place in March 2022.Now, this wasn't all roses and unicorns, we definitely had some hard lessons from the process. But, overall, it feels meaningful to have a place we love to call home.Paying off all personally liable debtBDC And FuturpreneurDuring a difficult time in the early stages of Speak Ai, I took out a $60,000 CAD loan so I could continue to fund the business and pay employees. The Futurpreneur and BDC Program can still be considered a net positive that has helped me and many entrepreneurs out, but it is a personally liable loan that I would recommend avoiding if you can.Most of the people that access the funding are young and naive and don't truly have a path forward for success in business. So, if and when that business fails, they will be left with the debt in their name and will be responsible for paying it back.That personally liable debt weighed heavily on me for many years. At least for me personally, this debt bred anxiety, low-risk tolerance, resentment, and short-term thinking that is not supportive of the good decision-making required to build a successful business.Shareholder LoanThere was also a shareholder loan that was put into Speak Ai that was supposed to be a temporary measure as we bled money after losing almost 80% of our revenue as COVID restrictions came into place. Just like COVID and interest rates, this temporary loan was not transitory and ended up sitting on our books and my mind for several years.In 2022, I made a tough decision to pay that and the BDC and Futurpreneur loan back which led to having to lay off two employees at Speak Ai and significantly shortening the runway of our business. But, this was an important decision for my life, and the health of the business in the long term and was done after some wonderful conversations with experienced entrepreneurs.TechstarsSunil, Gaby, Shibin, Raimundo and Alisha are a small team but mightily effective.They invested in us when others hadn’t, saw something good in us, and have been instrumental in us facing hard truths, driving growth, and creating worthwhile intros.Giving myself a good salaryI made a pretty big sacrifice in 2020 when COVID came to keep Speak Ai going.In 2022, a few things accumulated and I was able to pay myself a strong salary. That has helped stop the privileged resentment that sometimes has built while going through the process of both SixFive and Speak Ai.Working with great peopleVatsalVatsal is the CTO of Speak Ai and continues to be a rock in my life for personal and professional growth. DIY ProjectsChristmas Pyramid GiftsMonika, much to her demise, had to deal with a vision for custom-made resin pyramids for my family for Christmas.Moss And Resin ProjectMonika, much to my demise, had a vision for a massive moss and resin river project that we could hang on our wall.Painting ExperimentsI am not an artist. Monika is quite good. But, it was a lot of fun to do some art in a safe place with Monika.While she speedily put together beautiful pieces I spent hours intricately tracing lines and finding creativity within boundaries.While I definitely created no masterpieces, it was fulfilling to see a few pieces go from idea to execution and not be revolting to look at.HealingHealing is a continuous journey for all of us. We've all experienced trauma, societal expectations, and physical, mental and spiritual pain.There is a lot more work to do but I am relieved to feel that I am mostly on a healing path where the cumulative effects of a lot of lessons have helped me guide to a framework for healing and well-being.That includes exercise, fasting, no alcohol intake, love in my life, nature, micro-dosing, cold water, and other relatively cliche but impactful practices.First DMT ExperienceI also had my first-ever DMT experience which was an explosion of information and a connection with a new divine force that I had never experienced before. While I haven't gone back to visit that realm, the knowledge that is there, accessible and capable of rapid healing and insight is beautifully relieving.Nature In Port Credit, OntarioOverall, the place Monika and I moved to in Port Credit just outside Toronto, Ontario is close to nature in several regards. We have a beautiful off-leash dog park where we've shared beautiful moments with our dog Teja.Reconnecting With WaterWe are also only an 8-minute walk from Lake Ontario, which has driven a huge reconnection with water. I grew up lucky enough to have a pool and spent hours there almost every day in the summer. Being in water reconnects me with my inner child, feels intuitively healing, and creates a space for movement and exercise.When summer arrived, Monika and I got kayaks and had some blissful moments on Lake Ontario and down the Port Credit river. Toward the end of the summer, we also invested in paddle boards which help you form an intimate connection with water. We experienced many perfect days and evenings on the water watching the sunset of the trees over the lake from our position.As my love for cold water was realized, the early summer, fall, and inklings of winter gave me the opportunity to do some cold plunges in Lake Ontario which were exhilarating.Hot YogaLate in the year, Monika and I discovered a high-quality yoga studio near our house in Port Credit and purchased an unlimited pass. Before the pandemic, hot yoga was a passion and also a hated practice that challenged me physically and mentally. Throughout the pandemic, that practice was lost and I was never quite inspired enough to do it on my own. I couldn't recreate the community aspect, the well-placed competitive spirit that emerges, and the driving heat that unlocks healing.While the reintegration of yoga back into my life has been short it has been rewarding and transcendent which is what I crave. After coming back from India I plan to reinvest in hot yoga. See you in downward dog, my friend.HockeySince my "career" ended, I have always struggled to grasp my relationship with hockey. I do not like the culture it creates. However, it is a powerful form of exercise that helps me move beyond the "this is exercise" mindset to put me in the present moment and reconnect me with instinct and something I was good at for a long time.I will say, the years off in my pandemic from hockey have seemed to tarnish my skill set and timing, and although I've enjoyed hockey immensely, losing that touch has been a reckoning for my ego and an ongoing challenge to restore.Ultimate FrisbeeI have to give a shout-out to ultimate frisbee. It was my first time ever playing and I don't think I've ever fallen in love with a sport quicker in my life.Everything instantly connected: the beautiful weather, the grass, the team strategy and oh my god the golden moment you catch a frisbee for a point.New & Old FriendsWhile the world has changed and I'm getting older meaning I am content spending time at home with Monika and Teja, I still have the opportunity to meet some amazing people.In no particular order, I want to shout out a few beautiful people in my life. Some of them have been around for a long time. Others I've just met and I am so glad I did.NatalieI love Nat. We connected instantly and I have this comfort knowing that whatever insane thing comes into my head will make her laugh.BrynBryn Is such an awesome dude that I had the pleasure to stay in an RV with at Burning Man. He proposed to Natalie on the first night and it brought me to tears. During that time, we became good friends. Turning 30 Years OldI often get caught up in age milestones and 30 is a big one.I cannot believe how much has changed, and much of it for the good from the time I entered my twenties until now.Generative AIGenerative AI is a huge trend in artificial intelligence right now that is the culmination of decades of work.While there are many challenges with it ahead, it is a beautiful merging of human creativity and talent with machine computational power that inspires me greatly.YouTubeIn 2022, I decided to intentionally put myself out there by creating videos constantly.I started on LinkedIn and then transitioned to consistently publishing content on YouTube.By the end of the year, I have almost 700 subscribers and over 70,000 views.But more importantly, I've honoured my intention, and showed consistency and that has led to connecting with some amazing people across the internet.What I am especially excited about is the feedback loop of learning I've experienced where great people are searching topics that I am publishing videos on, consuming my videos, and then commenting with other resources, insights, and perspectives.Some of those viewers have pointed me in the right direction, given me entirely new tools to think about, or just given me the encouragement to continue publishing.YouIf you are checking this out, somehow this crazy universe has connected us in time and space.I am deeply grateful for that.Automated Video Transcript By SpeakOK. Hello. Hello. Tyler Braden here. I hope everything's going well. I'm dating myself, but we're coming up here on the end of 2022. It's been quite a year, quite a year for anyone involved in it. And I like to take a little bit of time at the end of the year to do a reflection. And I think one of the best ways to do that reflection is to focus on the positives and think about the things that you are grateful for in that year. And so this has been an exercise that I've done for many years, some of these. End up, you know, maybe personal notes on my computer, some of them sort of content on my website. This one's actually a mix of both that's got a article around it where I've structured some of this information, thoughts. It's been a very good meditative, reflective journey that I'm recording this video now. And you know why I'm asking myself what am I grateful for in 2022? And going through sort of my own personal experience, I'm hoping that that reflection has some impact on you. I hope that.You can find, you know, your own sort of sort of meditation on what you're grateful for in 2022. And it's also just sort of a celebration together as we end this year on A at the end of this. I'm spoiling that. But one of the things I am most thankful for is you. So if you're watching this video right now or if you're, you know, if you're reading this article somehow in this crazy universe we have connected, we've intertwined. You may like it, you might not like it, but it means a lot to me. I'm. I.Get so much inspiration from you and it means a lot that somehow we're bumping out there in space and time. And so thank you very much. Now, this is sort of an iterative journey. It's one of those things where you sort of start it and it's a lot bigger task. And I think that's a good thing. It's one of those things like, wow, I have more things to be grateful than I even thought. And I have this and I'm not going to pull it up on the screen, but I have this Google sheet and I've talked about it in a couple other articles, which sort of takes.It's super interesting. It's like goal date that I want to achieve that goal, the priority level of that goal from one to 10, the percentage of that accomplished. And then even with the date, I can see what age I'm going to accomplish that and then how many days I have to accomplish it. And so that goal sort of planning actually really helped me structure and now I did that in the start of 2022. But even in that it allowed me to sort of execute on several of these goals and I have some of them here, save $5000 for down payment I achieved.In 2021 and actually bought a house, which was a huge goal of mine for many many years. One that had eluded me for many years. Get a dog. Very happy to talk about that. Some loans that were paid off, some credit score gains, student loans and then a couple other pieces here, an exercise room and things that you know, some of these seem might seem minor but are like pieces that can be put together to then drive the execution of even the bigger goals that are down the road. And so I wanted to share.A couple of things. And I've got some images. This is almost like a PowerPoint, but it's like a blog post instead. So the first thing that they're gonna see here is a picture of myself and the lovely Monica. She doesn't like this picture. I think she looks absolutely beautiful in it. I have rasterized. I've processed over processed these images because this web page was getting massive and I feel sad about that. But I hope it looks OK to you. And I hope you know she's as beautiful in this image as she is to me. I love Monica so much. She has given me so much.Joy in my life. And when you have a partner that makes life this easy and fun, everything around gets so much better. So I'm so thankful for Monica. We've got a lot of exciting stuff ahead. We've got journey to India coming up and you know, less than 20 days here. And I think I'll be back here in 2023 with the relatively the same intention or same sort of thought process around her. Now what's killing me as I'm doing this is I have Google AdSense.On the page. And so I'm seeing ads come up and you are now seeing these ads have tried to remove as many as you are. This is, I guess the browsing experience of someone who's on the site. And you know what? I'm thankful for Google AdSense made me a bit of money this year. Just another nice little picture of her and I just thought this was sort of a thought that I had, which is, I mean first of all super wise person, deeply inspiring, resilient and beautiful. But just this idea of where she likes supports me being the true version of myself and like these crazy ideas that I have right up until the point where it should.No longer be supported and then she will support me in that and and there she is tapping on the door. I'm actually recording a video. And and and so again a lot of great stuff that is ahead of us including this trip to India. We had a ton of fun in the summer and in this House that we moved in also was a huge milestone in 2022. Dog Tasia, super, super happy with him. A little fluff ball. Taja Taja means a mix of sort of light and fast and Sanskrit and he is both of those things we've gone on runs together. Our relationship is starting to become.Even more and more like strong. I love him so much or I'm gonna have to leave him in India, which is devastating. But I know that I'll we'll come back and we'll reconnect and I will be staying with him at home because I just love him so much. And it's just like anytime, you know, you have sort of stress build up in today, you can just look over and see this little fluff ball of love and how happy that makes you. It's really amazing. Amazing thing. I've got a picture of my family here.We had first like family picture in a long time. We can see a bunch of us here here and it was a pretty big year for the family. I had one really you know sort of devastating death in the family with Jimmy which was really hard on the family but was also an amazing moment to see the family can come together. My my grandpa ended up in the hospital. He sort of had an infection and it had impacted already his been struggling with memory and and this infection.Just, you know, exponentially. Had, you know, made it worse and it was really tough because the family. Had to see him in a state where, you know, he was not the version of himself that he used to be. And he, to me, my grandpa has been one of the smartest people I've ever met. I've just listened to his stories. And I owe him the sort of, yeah, like the wisdom and curiosity that I have in my life because of him. And so, you know, it's hard to see people you love lose some of that. And it's also a sort of reminder that life is finite into.To enjoy the time you have with the people that you love. And I laugh because there I put this at the end and the writing. But it's like my grandpa, he sort of like punches. I try to hug him. He's not very affectionate man sometimes. And I I went to give him a hug and he sort of punches me in the stomach. And on Christmas I did the same thing and he he sort of gave me a real hug this time. And so that was a really nice moment. And I had written that before that I said I'd hug him and I'll keep hugging him and I'm glad to see that.Happened. Yeah. In Christmas. And my sister, I should have a picture directly of her here. I have them somewhere. I'll add it. She got engaged. A great guy named Ethan who I've really, I really enjoy his presence. He's an awesome guy and obviously cares deeply about my sister. I can tell by the photo shoot he did with her from this and and you know, my sister and I, we had some, you know, some trauma from seeing what a bad marriage can be with my mom and dad. And for a long time we thought I thought you know neither. First, neither of us were very skeptical about marriage and life and.Kids and all this stuff. And it's really amazing to see that transition happened for my sister and you know her to meet the right person and some of those inhibitions sort of fade away in the in a positive way and. As I move on here, I'm really lucky. I got to do some traveling and I haven't really got to do that much traveling in my life. Obviously, you know, COVID really shut things down for people. But then before that, I was just sort of locked up in a basement working on my first business and it just didn't make much time for it. I didn't prioritize that. I always had excuses. And so this is a picture here. If we look, I've got robot heart and mind warrior. We did this in the morning, so we had all stayed up all night. This was a long, long one. And had.Just an amazing time at Burning Man. It was a three-year hiatus. I had gone originally in 2019 and then got to come back in 2023, real high expectations and with that sort of return and it was a tough year to be honest. It was, it was, I mean amazing, amazing time, but extreme heat, dust storms, massive exodus, and I think just those, those high expectations have coming back after so long. And I think anyone who you know can go in with those high expectations. You can learn a lesson.Dropped out and I showed a bunch of videos on that so you can check those out and I really enjoyed making that series and got some great feedback on that, which was awesome. And my intention there was to dance and I danced, I danced hard. I'm, I'm glad that I achieved that. I was a super meaningful time because I had felt this sort of male induced. Rigid dancing and shame at the first Burning Man that I went to and I wanted to come back and be over that and I was able to. I mean it might seem like a small win, but to me it actually meant a lot and I'm very glad that I did it. And a couple other sort of travel things that I just did not know was coming. But we got to go to Portugal, Portugal for web summit and that was amazing trip. Two things at once. He had web summit, which I've got a video here for, and then a personal travel experience. I should add a couple more.Pictures of Portugal itself, but it's just like such a beautiful place. 10 days we did there. If you're there, go to Sintra, check out those castles, Penna de Quinta. And then there's some amazing drives along the coast that I just, you know, really changed my perspective on just how beautiful this world is and how we can live life differently and. After that, we were lucky enough to go to. That's when I were also lucky enough to go to Founder Con, which was a Techstars event that has been put on every year, every year and brings all the Techstars founders together. And it was in Oakland, CA. And what it also allowed us to do was explore San Francisco. And to me, San Francisco is sort of this mystical, mythical place that I had always wanted to go. Obviously a lot of love for Silicon Valley. And then just the actual innovation, the people there, this is a picture of me from.Akron on Twin Peaks looking at the Sunset and I just loved also. What I found was amazing. Great people there, but also a reverence for nature and and to me, the elevation, the water, the cliffs along and did a drive from, you know, Santa Monica all the way back to San Fran. Something really spoke to me and I. I I still think about it often and I think about maybe returning one day and maybe more than returning. Couple other things on that. Got to go up to the cottage. Amazing time with my mom for her her birthday and I think we did the perfect time for him to leave. You know, having an incredible time there. The nature of up north in Muskoka, that's a beautiful, beautiful place, even further than Muskoka actually and something that I'm very happy and privileged to experience and something. Thank you. I'm going to thank you, Mommy. And just Speaking of that, I, you know, talked about the family, but you get a bit older and you just cherish your family more and more and I'm so glad.That's happened because there's these times when you're growing up at a certain age, it's something that you push away from and I no longer feel that way. And all the Christmas that we just came from was a a wonderful time and I'm so glad that we have a relatively normal, happy, healthy family that gets to enjoy time together. So a big milestone that I talked about was sort of buying my first house. This was, you know, Monica and I did that in 2021 and then we moved in in March 2022. Now there were some lessons here, variable rate lessons.How to buy your first house how to what to put down a lot of things that we didn't necessarily expect that you learn as a first time home buyer and some of those are hard lessons but overall still grateful to have a place that we love and that we call home. And that was definitely true as we you know spent a week or so back you know at a great place that my mom and and her partners but we missed our home and we're very glad to get home last night. So a couple other things that I just I think I've got some article you know some. Pieces right in here, but. Just wanted like.One of the advices that had been given me was to when you're building a business and this is something that can't always be avoided, is if you can't avoid taking personally liable debt. And I did this future printer on BBC program again, I still consider it a positive program, but it was a $60,000 loan so I it was in the early stages of speak. There was some scary stuff going on in the world and I wanted to fund the business, I wanted to pay employees, but I had to put that personal liability on myself to to be able to make that happen and that really weighed heavily on me. For a long time that I also put some of my own money into the business. And between those two was, you know, sitting around $90,000. And I made a really difficult choice in 2022 to pay off that loan, which was personally liable and also the shareholder loan. And you know, some people would say that talk that wasn't the right choice or whatever that, but for me it gave me a place to like that that was breeding like low anxiety, low risk tolerance, resentment, short term.Thinking and it was not supportive of a good life or a good decision making path in business. And so I really struggled with that. And to pay that off to open up a place where I could operate from, you know, clarity from feeling that I want to can build a business without this massive personal liability on it. That became a hugely freeing mechanism that has allowed me to accelerate a lot of decision making towards the tail end of the year and then moving into 2023. So very, very.I'm grateful for that. I think along with that, one of this was actually happened after I had made that decision. It was putting us in a really tough state as a as a business. But Techstars and Techstars, Toronto specifically saw something in us. They invested in us. They have a small team shipping Sunil, Gabby, Ramundo, Alicia. But they're really an effective team, beautiful people. And yeah, they saw something else. They invested in us. They've been, you know, they've helped us face hard truths, understand what we should be doing.Growth and and also just make a ton of amazing worthwhile intros. Now, one thing that has gone you know, I paid myself a salary, a good, a good salary this year, and I had made some sacrifices going through COVID and some of these things. So that was a huge win for me. I'm not going to linger too much on it, but anyone can be grateful for that. After maybe years of not doing that, as much work with great people. This is a great shot of vatsal. Again, a little rasterized, but a vessel in Portugal on a Cliff. He's the CTO.You guys are rocking my life personally and professionally. I'm thankful to call him a cofounder, peer and friend. I've got some other people that I was proud to work with. Nihal Lorne Nihal was, you know, while we only worked together for about a year. Just executed so well. I learned so much from him and it to me it was one of those like wow, I made an amazing hire here and he became a friend and it makes you inspired and move forward and and and be feel responsible when you're working with great people with that and as always Lauren has stuck with us forever. He's been amazing manager of all our finances and making sure that we're still alive. And then along with that not just tech stars but the mentors that tech stars introduced our own mentors and then clients and customers that we actually get to work with that speak so.I know I'm coming up about 6 to 8 minutes already. I can do this. You could do it too if I've got some couple of quick DIY projects. These are super fun this year. This is a pyramid that Monica and I made for my sister and it's got a dog here. It's got a wedding cake. It's just a side angle for it. So it's full of 3D pyramid and then a little hot air balloon because they. Ethan asked my sister, good to get engaged in the hot air balloon. And so we made these resin pyramids for everyone in my family for Christmas. And man was it a.Ask. But Monica had a lot of fun. The joke is that we almost broke up. We didn't actually. It was just sort of fun to say and these turned out really beautiful. And it was amazing to see the response that we got from our family from it. And a couple of these things just sort of came to life this year and I really enjoyed, you know, moving from off the computer to a more tactile things. And this was a Moss resin board that we made with a beautiful river flowing through. You know, it was quite a quite a while to make, but now is up on our wall in the living room and it's something that both of us are super proud of.There's always that, you know, a piece to talk about when someone enters the house. And we had a lot of fun doing that together. We also made some art, some painting experiments. Monica is a good painter. I'm not. But, you know, I, I, I tried to flex my artistic endeavors in sort of the lines of creativity. So this was Monica's. This is just natural and beautiful. I, you know, have to put some tape down and then try to do it and maybe come up with something a little more conceptual so that it can outshine the poor art quality that actually has. And I think.Just you know in general for ongoing healing journey in 2022 that has continued that includes exercise, fasting, limited alcohol and take almost none in 2022. Love in my life which is a big one, nature, microdosing, cold water and and then other. I said sort of relatively cliche but impactful practices and I think these are all you know super valuable and meaningful to me. One of those was supercharged one which was my first DMT experience. I did do a video.On that and I've got it, you know, embedded here and then I'll add a link in the video. So you. But man, that was a lot of information and just the thought that that sort of accessible and rapid healing space is really quite profound, something that I did not expect to. I don't know how that came together, but it did and it's definitely a worthwhile and a moment I'm grateful for in 2022. And a couple other quick things here on that and sort of the healing journey. It's just nature like I'm in port.Put it in Ontario, it's just outside Toronto. It's close to nature, right near the water. We have a beautiful off leash dog park or shared some amazing moments with Asia and also just reconnected with water. And I'm a Leo sort of fire and but I grew up on a farm where we had a pool and I was privileged to be able to swim and I just fill out water reconnects me with this inner child and that's such a beautiful thing to have and something that's so worthwhile my life and so by being near the lake. I've felt in so many positive healing consequences to that and something I'm so grateful for. And I've got a shot. Monica and Taja on the kayak, right, looking at the sunset and many, many nights we spent out in the water doing that and some of the most beautiful moments of my life and something you know, super, super grateful for in 2022. I'm coming up to the end on my scroll bar. I think I got some hot yoga here. This was just towards the end of year. I can't touch too much on this, but it's something that I had done a lot.I recommend for anyone who is looking for a way to get in touch with physical side, mental side, spiritual side, community and also it's just some competitiveness, which is in a good way. Like where you're all like, I want to hold this, ever look at that amazing person holding this pose. I want to hold this pose and really drives sort of the success of your exercise and your practice and something I'm super grateful for. I'll touch on two last things in this regard is hockey. I've had a lot of challenges with my sort of relationship with hockey.And how I think about it. But I was lucky enough to meet some good guys and have play in the league. I've definitely lost my touch, which is its own challenge with my ego, but it's, you know, still put me in the present moment. It's reconnecting me with that instinct that I have. And also it's just this great form of exercise that I'm super grateful for and I'm going to touch on one other thing. That's what I didn't expect was Ultimate Frisbee, Ultimate Frisbee play for the first time in the summer 2022. And Oh my God, what a fun sport. As soon as I played it, I instantly connected with it.Running the team's perspective of it, the throwing and just seeing this Frisbee float and you're Oh my God, am I going to catch this? I'm not going to catch this. And just catching it, landing in the end zone for a point, that's a beautiful, beautiful thing. And I'm super, super grateful for the experience of playing Ultimate Frisbee. And I will be back in the summer and then, you know, I think something that's super important, new and old friends and so no particular order I've got.Natalie and I, nice picture of Burning Man. I just love Nat. I just you know, she just we were in the same RV at Burning Man. We did not know each other. It was there for her first experience and then she just had this thing where it was like I could say whatever crazy thing came into my mind and I knew that she would laugh at it and that was that's a good thing to have. And then that then connects me with Brendan who is her fiance and also was in the RV with me and he just just a solid guy, very empathetic, very in touch with.I think The thing is, it's sort of like the feminine masculine, like dichotomy and I I just thought a very thoughtful, empathetic, caring person. And I'm so glad to meet him. He's a very good person to call a friend. We had a great time at Burning Man in 2022. Aaron and Bovina, they came, they were friends with Monica before and came from India. They stayed at her place for two weeks. By the end of those two weeks, I just, you know, I just loved them so much that taking care of Taja on several occasions, they've got a big.That one coming up as we go to India, and I just love them so much. They're great, great people and I'm so glad they're settled in here. close to us, entire couple other people, entire Burning Man crew, Nick and Luke, Davy Lee, I know there's way more than this, this stuff, but Davey Lee and just a mentor that came through who had previously done tech stars and sold his business had just really resonated with him. And to thank you for all your insights this year, you helped me with a lot of things. Turning 30 years old man, I get caught up in a milestone sometimes. 30 years old. Felt like a big one but didn't hit me as hard as like 21 did. Even 25 hit me. You know I've I've. I think I've detached a little bit from that. I'm just living and flowing through life but I'm still grateful for making it here and being 30. A couple last things to close out this all grateful party here in 2022. Generative AI. If you know me you knew I was going to probably say something about this huge.Find an artificial intelligence culmination decades of work. We got a lot ahead of us here. But it's this beautiful sort of merger of human creativity talent and then just like yeah machine, computational power. And it just inspires me greatly. I was hacking away trying to figure out how to accomplish a few things in this space before this really emerged that make me feel like an idiot now. But at the same time it's just like beautiful beautiful thing and it's going to be a crazy, crazy year. I'm going to do a video on the predictions for 2023 and this is one of those top.Sort of areas of predictions that I think is going to be pretty huge and. I've also got YouTube, so I'm recording this video. I'm gonna upload it on YouTube. 70,000 views this year, almost 3000 hours of watch time. Six, almost 700 subscribers. I started posting half, you know, guess halfway through the year. Some pretty big spikes there a couple of times. And I'm just really grateful that I actually you know came up with the drive the to do it consistency to be able to continue doing it. That I got actual real feedback from great people like you. All of that.Could have committed for me to continue. And I'm really excited for this journey with some goals around creation in 2023 and in this last piece is just you again. Automated TranscriptOK. Hello. Hello. Tyler Bryden here. I hope everything's going well today. Wanna take a look at significant raise in the speech recognition AI space. And if you know anything about me, you know I love this space. This company called Deep Grand that completes a $72 million series B. If I read you know what, they're sort of messaging on crunch bases and crunch base maybe lags behind a little bit. Deep Graham helps enterprises unlock the potential of their audio data with custom training, speech recognition for accuracy and scale. 8 grams deep learning speech recognition system searches for keywords and transcripts by sound and text within audio and video files used for transcribing calls, meetings and voicemails for searchable notes, providing businesses with the fast, high accuracy speech to text on an easy to use API. The company was founded in 2015 and is headquartered in San Francisco. I've been following this company for a long time. I have used their API. I have played around with their speech recognition system. This is not something that.
Use on an ongoing basis a couple of problems with specifically sort of the integration layer. But overall the actual technology is certainly an incredible sort of feat that they've pulled off and it's in a market that there are a lot of incumbents like when people think of speech recognition. If I go actually to the bottom of this screen, I can look at the comparisons here and we've got Google, Amazon, Microsoft, Nuance and there's some legacy companies like speech matics and then also some well funded companies like assembly. Eye symbol AI who are going down this path and people are certainly you know very interested in the space. We talked about this idea and this is something that that speak I hear we work on work with all the time. This idea of like dark data and so much of it being just like essential for business insights but unable to you know be able to mine it and get those insights and the companies really sort of struggling with that so.
From that perspective, what they've really focused on and I think they're going to go beyond that is but at a core level is this idea of accuracy and cost. And in both those we have seen you know those sort of promises delivered on it is definitely inexpensive. You know it's still competing. If you're say you're not a developer and you don't want to interact with an API, you're still competing. I think it's probably other AI might be outcompeting.
And the actual lowest cost and then the accuracy level and we've done tests work for example, run trans Amazon transcribe versus Azure versus Google speech text versus deep gram and seeing the output and from a sort of spelling grammar. And then I would say also the punctuation and formatting of that content. I've really seen deep gram be successful in in that and what they've also done and this is what they talk about in the article here as they've started to add a lot more. On top, and this is what we've also looked at, speak, I like transcription speech to text, speech recognition. It, it helps you solve one problem, but then it just opens up a Pandora's box of more problems, which is just way too much data to be able to handle. And with all this sort of new information, you need other ways to process that. And so this extraction layer that they have built out, you know, releasing is definitely a valuable one. Now a couple things.
On this actual raise, part of it was announced in 2021, which I do remember, I'll pull that up 25 million. It's obviously a very distressed time that companies are sort of raising money right now. So I'm interested to know again like was this a case of? The cream rising to the top and this made sense and their growth is so insane. They've processed up two trillion words that company, you know investors with all this sort of dry powder had nowhere else to really put their money in. So it flowed to deep gram and Congrats for being the, you know the cream of the crop in that regards. And so we've got Elkin Capital Management who led that round and so you know pretty simple website here but obviously has a ton of capital and then they have some pretty big.
I knew they did, but like in pretty big returning investors, so BlackRock, Tiger Global, City Ventures, NVIDIA, Tegra Global, Why Combinator. So that's a huge, you know, repertoire of great investors as as part of this. Now one of the things that was super interesting I think here. So talk about sort of these phase changes or the way that they're looking at it. So Phase Zero invented a way to structure and train an end to end deep learning model to process.
We started phase one, so that was phase zero. Phase One improved the system produced transcripts with near human accuracy. No, there's I think and they put in brackets here. There's a lot of challenges with this, with this, with no speech recognition engine I have, I seen it be flawless, but it's, you know, pretty incredible where we're at in terms of that. And then phase two with the AI generated transcripts more legible. They started formatting, so numbers, punctuation, speaker separation and then.
You sort of formatting that and that's where I've seen a lot of success in in sort of the system that they produced and now this is super interesting phase three. So these are you know as speaking I we work with I would say the more non-technical developers but within the same space and the way that they're moving in phase three is definitely. Aligned with the problems that we're seeing in the space and the requests that we're getting asked. So language detection and translation. So for example, challenges where people are switching languages between, you know, switching between languages mid conversation, that's a big problem within speech to text. And then just actually taking one and then translating it actually into another is a big problem.
Sentiment analysis and we have sentiment analysis within speak, it's fantastic. But a lot of that sentiment analysis wait is on what's being said and not how it's being said. So they specifically identify tonal signals that reveal sentiment and so if they can achieve that accurately that is a huge asset. We've seen over and over again automatic summarization. This one's very sort of common thing that we've seen in the space. A couple companies Assembly I from a developer perspective, I've worked a lot on this.
Other from a more consumer version of this of sort of making a summary of your meeting, but overall great. You have a conversation, you have many conversations, whatever these assets are, some sort of summarization is valuable to streamline the process of review or making decisions. And so again as a piece of alignment that we've seen in this is this next one here is. Which is basically speaker identification. This is actually one of the biggest problems we're seeing that, you know, just make so much sense to be able to solve now problems with it, which is so that the problem is speaker identification and so.
The idea is that and again now Otter is doing this on a consumer level very well. But from from our perspective, a lot of the sort of speech recognition systems are sort of disengaged with this process. And so if you record a conversation and then you transcribe it and then you record another transcription, there is no sort of connection between you as a speaker in those two uploads. And what they're now doing is basically registering a speaker profile and identity that is a unique speaker across many files. And so the idea here is if you have 100 conversations and you.
You know, you label yourself once, it would actually have that sort of signature, a fingerprint of who you are and would allow you to then automatically update the speaker across all those files, which from a, you know, my research perspective, if it's a moderator versus people who are in focus groups. If it's an internal, you know, who's internal meetings and you want to see who is speaking, you know, a lot of applications of this that opens up, you know? Really powerful sort of analysis and filtering and summarization and solves. You know, to me what is one of the bigger problems in this space. So I really do like where they're moving for this phase three, the last one being topic detection. I think this is another one assembly symbol.
We're working on something that we've worked on with a lot of the. Sort of topic detection on a more general purpose engine being relatively generalized, not that specific and in that case not that valuable. There are systems that allow you to do it from a more like training like training, you know personalized model perspective or maybe that company is within a specific industry. I think of a great company called Chatter Research which is doing a topic identification specifically related to retail. So you know in that case it's so tailored.
Super valuable. And if they can bring topic detection from a a more generalized layer to being specific across industries, super valuable. There. A lot of companies sort of say they're doing topic detection, but really they're just doing keywords and phrases extraction. So some of these features currently available in beta, beta, beta.
And then other ones are coming soon and then they just sort of have. A little sort of summary here which is nice. So they're CEO is apparently a physics like dark matter particle detection. So that's super interesting. Super interesting to know that they've been working on this since 2015 and then see the level of scale that they're at now I've got you know some links if you're interested in following them if you you know want to learn more always some good sort of resources and and and things to consider I think they are you know with this raise they're definitely.
I mean I've seen also their sales team work there, they're formidable, their continual sort of continuously working there, you know, passionate about the problems they're solving. And I think all of this makes sense why deep Gram was able to complete the $72 million series B round. And I think there's some some great Nuggets in here about competing against big companies getting in, you know, investors on board and getting them to repeat especially in a market like this. And then where are the. Future of sort of speech recognition and then what comes out of speech recognition with natural language processing where we're where we're headed and if you can look at these pieces here a lot of things start to give you opportunities that you can execute on. So I hope you got some insight out of this.
