As teachers, we have tooooons of papers to deal with. And when it comes to IEP paperwork for our students in Special Education, the paperwork load is immense. A lot of this data and paperwork is necessary for supporting our students but can become overwhelming. That's why it's important to talk about special education teacher organization strategies that are easy to implement.
Many of you have reached out to me to ask about organizing Special Education paperwork, RTI interventions and alllll of that data we have to keep up with. I am not an expert in that area. That’s why I am sharing my conversation with Brandie Rosen for this topic.

When it comes to organization, everything needs a home. If you watched The Home Edit on Netflix, you heard them talk about “containing.” We are doing the same thing here, we are just containing our items into different homes.
Homes are created by using boxes and bins, really ANYTHING, to house a certain type of material. In this case, we are talking about the best products to create homes for classroom paper organization.

I believe, so deeply, in the power of goals. And not just your typical new year's resolution type goals. But goals that actually help you accomplish the things you want to look back on in 20, 30, even 40 years and say "that helped me get here."
Teachers care A LOT about their students. As educators, we want to do everything we can to provide the absolute best opportunities for our students. That means teachers are constantly putting themselves on the back burner. And you know what happens to the food on the back burner? The things we forget about? They burn! That is why I think it is crucial we practice setting teacher goals for ourselves, personally and professionally.

When I started out in the classroom, I didn't have a good handle on work-life balance. In fact, when I left the classroom in 2018 to move abroad I have up more than 20 days of paid leave. That's why I am so passionate about talking with people about work-life balance for teachers. It is crucial educators have a plan in place to manage their time, practice self-care, and achieve "balance."

Small group teaching is a great way to meet your kids at the level they are on and give them the instruction they need. But first you need to get your resources and materials in place. Typically, a small group lesson is only 15 to 20 minutes. That isn't a lot of time and you need to make the most of it.

Another year has flown by and it is time to start thinking about packing up your classroom. As important as it is to ensure that your classroom is organized all year long, I think it is equally important to ensure that your classroom is organized as you pack it up. That's why I've put together a slew of posts on packing up as well as this end of year classroom pack up checklist.
When you come back at the start of next year, you want to be able to find everything easily. I suggest packing like things together so that way when you are ready to unpack it, you are doing one "section" at a time. But...I am getting ahead of myself.

April 2020 is a crazy time, y'all! Who thought 2020 would be the year of a global pandemic, social distancing, and canceling school?!? All of us are teaching from home right now and it can be a little difficult to find the motivation to do more than sit on the couch and eat chips all day.
When it comes to working from home, I wouldn’t say I am an expert, but I have been doing it for over a year now and it has been trial and error, for sure. But I have found some things are a must when it comes to working in the same place you live. Let's chat about what those things are and how you can make the most of your time at home.

Before you can step out into the world of education, you have to spend time as a Pre-Service teacher learning from those ahead of you. Today on the podcast I am talking with Dr. Sam Fecich, a college professor for Pre-Service teachers. I always ask teachers what their biggest pain points are when it comes to teaching and more specifically, organization. There are overarching themes I see day in and day out. One of the biggest being “where do I start?!?”
I always recommend starting small, with an area that is easy to organize in a matter of a few minutes and then working up to bigger things. Also, don’t feel like you have to reorganize your whole classroom in one weekend. It’s a gradual thing. It should be. Too much at once, especially while you're in a school year with kids, can be a lot to change everything at once.
So instead, I recommend starting with a few key areas that I will share today.

Today I am going to give you an excerpt from my course, Kickstart Your School Year. Now I know the school year has already started and yes, the course is designed to help you kick-start your year. But the things I talk about in the course are valuable at any time of the year. While I would always recommend you start your year out organized, sometimes it doesn’t happen but the good news is, you can do it even in the middle of the year! It may take a little bit longer and you might have to scale things down a bit, but it’s never too late to get started!

The excitement the new school year brings, especially for a first year teacher, can cause her to work long hours, go up on weekends, and work during breaks. All of those are fun things, but can quickly lead to burn out. Learn some of the signs of working too much (thus leading to burnout!) so you can set healthy boundaries for this school year.

The excitement the new school year brings, especially for a first year teacher, can cause her to work long hours, go up on weekends, and work during breaks. All of those are fun things, but can quickly lead to burn out. Learn some of the signs of working too much (thus leading to burnout!) so you can set healthy boundaries for this school year.

Students need positive reinforcement for their behavior and I will always advocate for positive reinforcement. However, there are times when students need consequences but the consequences must relate to the offense. Today’s show will share some ways I handled consequences with my students.
