Liam St. John is a blues-rock singer, songwriter, and performer currently located in Los Angeles, California.

Liam wowed Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton on season 19 of NBC’s The Voice with his bluesy rendition of “Sex and Candy”. Shelton was impressed by Liam’s versatility in the pocket, his falsetto, and his uninhibited soulful screams. The country star said Liam deserved an opportunity to advance in the competition. Ultimately, St. John chose the decorated icon, Gwen Stafani, who described his voice as “incredible” and “rich.”

Before his big break on The Voice, Liam St. John hustled in the trenches of the music industry for years, playing at open mics, empty dive bars, and making nothing except the occasional well-whiskey or slice of pizza. St. John and his band finally broke through with an opportunity to open for the British soul-rock sensation, Jacob Banks. They have since toured up and down the west coast, and across the southern states of America from Los Angeles, CA to Miami, FL.

Notable Quotes

  • On Marc’s first job as a receptionist at an ad agency: “I knew that it wouldn't be just about answering phones. It would be leading into something else. And I'll tell you, it was brutal, and it was a grind and it was humbling right out of the gate, but I was going to be the best damn phone answerer, you know, and I was.”
  • “It starts with your current status. What are you doing today? What are you doing right now? And are you working hard and grinding and getting after it?”
  • “I think the hard work, sometimes it leads to what those big moments are. Sometimes you don't really know what those big shining moments are, but if you're working hard and you're getting into it, it unfolds, it kind of unlocks what those moments are and even more of those big moments.”
  • On making a move into a sales role: “And in many ways, the sales role was not necessarily a step forward. It was more of a lateral move, but it gave me a whole nother perspective. I thought I was getting a new perspective in product, and then I got an even greater newer perspective as I went into sales. All of those things were just great at making me a better marketer and making me understand more holistically what I was trying to do.”
  • On giving back to the community: “I do that because there's nothing more important to me than just being known for how you treat people. I think we can't have enough of that. It's just so rewarding.”
  • “My role at Beyond Meat is really just to champion of telling the brand story, making sure that the reason why myself and many of the folks at Beyond Meat work there because of the amazing mission of brand has to feed a better future to get that out there. If there's one thing common about my day or every day, it's reminding us internally and then ultimately externally with consumers, why the brand exists and why it's important.”

  • “I felt like when I look at this idea of Water the Bamboo, like, it didn't just come to me when I said, Oh, I want to make the national team and make the national team the next year. It was years. I mean, I was 26 years old when I made the national team. You have 18 and 19-year-olds making that team. And so for me, I definitely kept watering that and saying, okay, let's get better and let's get better and let's get better.
  • On self-doubt: “Any confidence I had in myself was completely gone. And I definitely questioned, I'm like, am I really as good as I think I am?”
  • “By doing one thing, every single day, I started to gain this confidence and that confidence led to more confidence in other parts of my game.”
  • “It's hard to find a woman to look up to as an athlete. I looked up to Michael Jordan. I couldn't become him, but my sister became that person that I could become her.”

And so if you think about What's Going Well for you in your own three feet, you'll find so many things going well that you don't have time to consume the negativity.”
  • “When you are in the dark of something, it is so hard to get yourself to move forward.”

Despite being the #1 high school wide receiver in Oregon, JJ didn’t receive a single D1 scholarship offer. He was fast enough for sure, but at 5’9 and 133 lbs., JJ was just too small to play with the big boys. At least that’s what the naysayers thought; JJ knew he was good enough, and he set his mind to achieving the impossible. All he needed was an opportunity, no matter how small, even if it meant making his own.
