I go super deep into my thoughts on 2020 for me personally, as well as professionally, and how discovering Gary Vaynerchuck and taking my first trip to the Rockies in 2016 along with my first elk encounter, changed my perspective on life. Life is about taking risks, setting goals, making sacrifices, and ultimately living the life you want. What are you waiting for?

By the time September 2019 arrived, I had racked up quite the bill for an elk hunt that wasn't supposed to cost as much as it did, and had yet to purchase a quality range finder, so I walked into my local Walmart, and bout the Halo 450 XL for less than $100. On today's show I give a candid review to the Colorado hiking/hunting boot, made by Crispi, an Italian boot manufacturer, that was started in 1975, and now has a distribution center here in the United States. Since I was going on an elk hunt in Colorado, I surmised that a boot with the same name was the best choice! Joking aside, I was actually taking a risk never even trying the boot on prior to purchase, however I was very pleased with how the boot performed, in not only the Colorado mountains but the whitetail woods of Ohio as well.

So I have a little time away from work due to the corona craziness and I'm trying to be as productive as I can, so I thought I'd put out a series of short podcasts that revolve around some of the products/gear/clothing that I used during my Colorado elk hunt in 2019.
The theme of this "series" is that you shouldn't feel you have to "break the bank" to make it to your first elk or other big game western hunt. However, there are in my opinion, pros and cons to dropping big money, and hunting on a shoestring budget. Hope you find a ton of value in each episode.

On todays show I talk about my 2019 buck, first kill with the new bow, first buck since dad died, and the importance of getting back to your "roots".

I've been blessed to have taken several nice bucks over the years, but after passing on so many bucks, losing my dad, the family property changing owners, prepping for a wedding, work and family priorities, I had a real heart to heart with myself, and proudly put my tag on a nice little buck!

I also bought the meat grinder I have always wanted!

I feel there's a lot of value in this episode. Not necessarily from hunt tactics, but from a more "down to earth" perspective, that revolves around what's most important when it comes to our time in the field. Hope you enjoy this episode.

Today I am joined by Don Higgins of Realworld Wildlife Products, Higgins Outdoors, and host of the Chasing Giants podcast. Don is also a writer for several outdoor publications, sharing decades worth of knowledge on the topic of killing being mature whitetail bucks. This is a great back and forth where Don and I pick apart some of his best articles, and his thoughts on "patterning" mature bucks. There's no one specific topic as we discuss the pros and cons of trail cameras, and how most hunters ruin their stand before hunting season even starts. Speaking from personal experience, Don's writings have helped me bring down a couple of big bucks, and I think anyone looking to step to the next level as a mature buck hunter, should head Don's advice. Don is one of the few people to CONSISTENTLY kill mature bucks, year after year. I hope you enjoy this show.
