This is one of the most important things in putting yourself out there - not letting the opinion of others diminish who you are. Living your truth comes with this price, and I understand it because guess what? I’m a recovered people pleaser.

On this episode we’re discussing bringing everything out into the open. You’ve probably heard me say this before and I’m going to say it again: what’s in the dark cannot be healed.

Today I’m sharing a personal story with a few major takeaways:

  • Feedback doesn’t equal failure; it equals learning
  • Anyone who gives you feedback should be thanked
  • Define the difference between their truth and yours

Never settle for someone else’s assumptions or opinions of you to be true. As always, there’s much more inside the episode, and I’d love to hear your feedback.

Yep, I just said the word crotch.

I’ll provide a bunch of tips to save yourself (and your crotch!) from indecision, but here’s a sneak peek of what we cover today:

Upgrade your way of thinking

How to quickly change your brain so that you don’t stuck in the details

How to get that right brain to activate

Grab your rose-colored glasses and get ready to have fun! I’m talking about brainstorming and how it helps develop a growth mindset!

Allow yourself to brainstorm the vision of where you’d like to see your health, business, and life. Just remember to come back down to reality (that’s the hardest part for me to remember!) and make a plan to create that reality by taking action.

How many times have you heard or thought?

“Don’t you work enough?”

“Aren’t you busy enough?”

“You have an awesome life - why do you need more?”

These statements come from a lack mindset. If you relate, I have an exercise for you! If you’re ready to achieve your dreams, it’s time to listen to this episode.

Today we have one of the most connected to spirit friends that I know, Amanda Jelinek. We met 14 ½ years ago in my Chiropractic practice and we’ve always had a bond both being driven women and moms and very intuitive.

Today’s episode is a bit nontraditional – imagine that! I tell a lot of people about her and they usually give me wide-eyed looks so I thought, “What better way to showcase her than allowing you to see, ahem hear her in action!” Healers work in many different ways, so she talked colors, brought out some cards and sensed my energy.

Amanda is a powerhouse human, connector and communication. My intent in this session is to share another perspective…one that may unlock you, unlock your connection, unlock a key to being closer to living your purpose, ON PURPOSE.

About Our Guest
A seeker of the truth, the light and the way and always a little quirky, Amanda is always digging in to learn something new. She's a full-time wife & mom, business consultant, semi-farmer, spiritual leader and Enneagram 3 who never starts her day without a hot cup of coffee on the porch. She learned over 20 years ago that the way to truly live and manifest your desires in this lifetime is to start by building a regular meditation practice and paying attention to the messages you receive. She's a practitioner of multiple modalities, working with individuals to shift their limiting beliefs and align their energy with their goals. For those who manage to pull her off the farm for awhile, she'll talk your ear off about sustainable growing, clean food and wildcrafting herbal medicine and will top it off with earthing practices and how to use of color, crystals & plants to align your chakras and deepen your spirit connection.

TODAY IS MY ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF PODCASTING!

I am a lot of things, but consistent hasn’t always been one of them. So putting out weekly podcast episodes for a solid year is kind of a big deal for me.

The truth is, I can be consistent when it involves doing something I love. But as with anything in business (and life), while I love parts of podcasting, I do not love all the parts.

Today I’m sharing about how I created a system and a team to support me, pushing this dream forward in a way I couldn’t do on my own. That living, breathing system is what gave me the push to produce even when I wasn’t feeling it.

I’m also talking about how all of those lessons have trickled down from podcasting to infuse my entire business. And the growth I’ve created is something I never thought would be possible.

Short story? I’m giving you the step by step formula to grow and scale your business, to cultivate a team and raise them to your level, and how to become the leader that can’t let them down.

Today’s episode is SO special to me, because it features my right hand gal, the PB to my J - Lyndi Rosenau.

For those of you that don’t know her, she is our shop mom, and keeps all of our many, MANY ducks in a row. She is a superstar hardworking, organizing, quiet force to be reckoned with, and the perfect compliment to my alpha personality.

People ask me all the time, “Where can I find myself a Lyndi?” Welp. The truth is, I didn’t find her. And she didn’t find the Dr. Tiffany you know and love either. Back then, we were two, completely different people.

When we met thirteen years ago, we were two strong women who totally respected one another, but had very different personalities. What began as conflicts in our relationship, grew to become a training ground for both of us to level up. Together we’ve become an unstoppable team which is great, because we have no plans to stop anytime soon.

I’ve noticed a big dip in people’s energy recently.

I have my hands on hundreds of people each week, so I have a bit of a different perspective because I’m not limited to any kind of social bubble, so I can get a read on the community at large.

Plus I’m not frigging blind.

That storm out there is raging with all of those conflicting opinions, confusion and unrest. it’s a world of chaos presented to us every time we turn on the TV or peek at social media.

When there’s a storm of that size, how do we keep from getting caught up in it? Especially when it feels like we’re on a little life raft in this stormy sea?

It’s quite simple actually. We take our power back. When everything is spinning out, there is one last thing that you can take complete control of.

Psst. It’s you.

I’m going deep and raw in this episode, sharing tactics that work. Tune in, won’t you? We need you at your best.

The incredible, resilient Joelle Baehr joins me in this episode and sheds a light on trauma that everyone needs to hear. Trauma isn’t always something huge like child abuse, or a car accident. It also comes in seemingly small, daily doses that we assume disappear once they’re over.

They don’t.

Join us as Joelle tells us how she regained control in her life after significant trauma as a child. How her faith has blessed her with a bulletproof confidence, knowing that she is a child of God. She talks about how that same faith has shown her the way to forgive and says she could hug the people who have hurt her the most. That compassion and forgiveness is the key to healing.

This eloquent, brilliant human runs us through how she learned to forgive, gained the confidence to risk making decisions, how she deals with triggers and why she banned bonding over hatred in her company.

She says there are a million little things you can do to move yourself closer to peace. Just start somewhere. Start by listening to this episode.

These are the books Joelle mentioned: The Chronological Bible, Deep Work, Will Power Doesn’t Work, The Body Keeps the Score, Multipliers, Managing Leadership Anxiety, and Widen the Window.

Stacy Counterman ain’t your average coach. Her approach to her athletes is 100% holistic, and that includes body, mind and soul.

If I’ve said it once I’ve said it a million times: Sports are life. Stacy agrees - and that’s why she’s committed to prepping her athletes for the long haul.

From establishing internal motivations, finding your why and accepting all of the hurdles and injuries that come along with sports (and life), Stacey shares her incredible experience that applies to the kids she coaches, but extends to amazing life advice for anyone.

We talk about how to pivot with our children through the changes in their lives, how to give them tools to “expand their bandwidth for more positive things” after a setback, and share tactical ways to build back their confidence.

Grab your kiddos and listen in together as Stacy explains the power of setting small achievable goals, focusing on what can be controlled, and remembering that we are all more than any one thing.

ABOUT OUR GUEST

Originally from SD, Stacy received a B.S. in Athletic Training and Exercise Science from MSU Moorhead. She went on to receive her M.Ed. in Athletic Training from the University of Virginia. After working in the high school setting for three years, she discovered a new passion for the mental side of injury recovery and exercise in general. Now a doctorate student working on her EdD in Sport and Performance Psychology from the University of Western States, she works with athletes, groups, performers of all kinds who want to have fun, perform better, or consistently find "peak performance," whatever that may be. Outside of school and work, she loves to spend time with my husband and family, preferably in the mountains, on the beach, or at Disney World.

You can find Stacy on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

What are the effects of isolation on our mental health? Any new mother can tell you - the effects are heavy and far reaching.

On the show today we have Dr. Ali Young, who was so shocked by the isolation caused by her transition into motherhood she has made it her business to help mothers find and build their tribe.

In a world where “busy-ness is rewarded and rest is admonished” moms are getting hit the hardest. Dr. Ali started seeing this trend in her Chiropractic practice, and the sheer volume of tapped out moms alerted her to a major problem at large.

You can’t have this conversation with every patient. You just can’t. So she’s created a container to do it in. It’s called Unfck Motherhood, and it’s a place to nurture and grow self-aware, connected, resilient women, who understand that taking care of themselves serves their families immensely.

The massive shift to motherhood isn’t unlike the massive shift many of us have undergone with Covid. Dr. Ali’s soul-saving approach to restoring the hood to motherhood is something we can all benefit from.

ABOUT OUR GUEST

Dr Ali Young is a Chiropractor with a passion for helping Mums to become UnFkd and thriving. With nearly 18 years experience in practice, working with children and mothers for most of the time, she loves watching mums blossom into themselves as they grow and learn about themselves and their children.

She graduated from RMIT University in Melbourne Australia in 2002. She moved to Perth WA early 2003 and began working as an associate for 3 years, before branching out with her best friend and mama mentor Dr Olivia Gleeson to work side by side for 8 years. In this period she served as on the WA Registration board and was the Vice President of the WA Chapter of the Chiropractors Association of Australia. She also completed her Masters in Chiropractic Pediatrics.

She loved playing sport... which is where she met her husband. Not long after getting married, they moved to Malaysia where she had the majority of her first pregnancy. She birthed in Perth WA, with her support network, but they moved back overseas when their first child was only 2.5 weeks old. This is where her reality set in. They eventually moved back to Australia, in QLD, and she returned to work, and became pregnant again, this time birthing in a regional hospital with a great support network. They stayed in Australia for a while longer, and just after the youngest child turned 1 they moved to South Korea for two years. This was epic, and her tribe of wonder mums was really born here. As was the growth of understanding of motherhood for her.

When they moved back to Australia Dr Ali reopened her private practice in Gladstone QLD, seeing over 50% children and another 20-30% pregnancy and post partum mums. in 2019 she has really felt a calling to share her knowledge about UnFckIng Motherhood with a bigger community. So Unfck Motherhood was born, to help mums embrace their motherhood journey again, and regain their HOOD.

You can find Dr. Ali on Facebook, Instagram, on her website, and you can join her challenge here. You can join her Embracing Motherhood course here.

It’s so important to know the difference between a healthy and an unhealthy stress response. Especially in our kiddos.

If your child is having behavioural issues, digestive issues, trouble sleeping, difficulty self-regulating, experiencing diet changes, feeling negative, having trouble focusing - in short, having a negative experience - there’s a good chance they’re suffering from anxiety.

There’s plenty to feel anxious about right now. Today’s episode is a recording of back-to-school anxiety webinar I did that will teach you how to spot it, where it comes from, and the best ways to address it. Once you identify the problem and start asking questions, you’ll find solutions. You’ll build the tribe you and your kids need.

I really nerd-out on this one. But here's the thing: Happy moms + happy kids = happy Dr. Tiffany. For many of us, the emotional world is divorced from the scientific. Stress and its effect on your brain, heart and body are very real. And with all that’s going on in the world, we need to stop ignoring that.

Lots of love to all you parents out there. You will get through this. And you’ll bring your babies with you.

There is a quote from this episode that I’ll keep with me forever.

“What if I fall? Oh but darling, what if you fly?”

Mandy George, West City Fargo Commissioner, knows her fair share about flying. And that quote drove her beyond hurdles that would have stopped most. After getting an extensive education, she began her career as a pilot almost 20 years ago, where she fell in love with aviation.

Early on she realized that as a woman in a male dominated field, she’d have to “be better, to get equal credibility.” She was up to the challenge and didn’t let that stop her. It also didn’t stop her from pursuing her dream of community service as Commissioner.

She lost her ex-husband to an accident early on in her daughter’s life. As a single mother, she relied heavily on her community to support her during that loss and with her career, and has come full circle to provide support for that same community now.

Join us for this high-energy conversation, where Mandy shares how she overcame the odds to build a life aligned to her gifts, passions and her family.

About our Guest

Born in 1977, Mandy grew up in Moorhead and graduated from Moorhead High in 1995. She went to NDSU for 2 years, MSU for 4 years, got her Bachelor of Arts in sociology, went to UND for 1 semester in commercial aviation, then onto Vic’s aircraft and MN Aviation in Albert Lea. She completed private, instrument, commercial, multi-engine, Certified Flight Instructor, instrument and multi, and airline transport pilot certificates. (CFI, CFII, MEI, ATP)

She became an instructor, teaching lessons from 2002-2005, and went on to co-own Eagle 1 Aviation with her late ex-husband, from 2003-2006. She flew freight for corporate air (2005-2006), and flew Encore Air Cargo (2006-2007).

Her daughter was born in 2008, during which time she did some part time flight instruction. She flew for Titan Machinery (2011-2014), Red River Aero (2012-2015), Dragonfly Air Services (2013-2015), and Bell Bank (2015-current).

She was elected West Fargo City Commissioner June 2020, and has been serving her community ever since with a commitment to honesty, transparency and putting the community first.

Last week I didn’t put out a podcast. For everyone that knows me, that’s … off.

I was TAPPED. I was exhausted and couldn’t do any more. This wasn’t my first time at the pushed-too-far rodeo - over the years I’ve been here quite often. Over the years I’ve learned a great way to avoid getting hit by the bull.

I step outside of myself and settle in for some observation time. Here’s the thing - there’s no judgement in observation. I just do a quick body/soul scan to see what’s going on.

Today I share 8 signs I look for in a soul scan. It’s a simple checklist I store in my head that helps me name the problem. Once I identify the source of the funk, I can get the funk out of there. I’ll also share my best practices for getting back on track.

It takes a deep breath, a mindful moment and some practice, but boy does it work. Giving yourself a little space to be human, then objectively standing back and observing yourself is a gift - to yourself and everyone around you.

I have a strong personality. But that wasn’t always the case.

In my meeker days, I didn’t have a strong voice and I didn’t ever want to use it. I was always so concerned with what other people thought, and it took me a long time to build confidence and self esteem.

Once I graduated from Chiropractic school, I knew I had a LOAD of knowledge and ability, but quickly realized that my flimsy delivery wasn’t conveying that to my patients. When I realized I had to start showing up with the authority of a doctor, I decided that I would fake it till I made it. It worked.

Today’s episode is about how important your delivery is. But it’s also about reading the tone behind other people’s words. Learning to mirror the tone of the person you’re talking to, can deepen and maximize your connection.

And connection, my friend? That is the name of the game. And it’s worth every ounce of work you put in to deepen it.

Woah Nellie, this has been a long time coming!

With 42 previous episodes behind us, we’ve grown. And honestly, I started the You Decide Podcast knowing that it would evolve. I had an idea. I went for it. I let it grow. It became The Aligned Life.

I am a chiropractor, yes. But over my years in practice I learned that what drew me to chiropractic, was that I am a healer at heart. My time in chiropractic has given me the opportunity to work with thousands of families, and in so many of them, our healing went FAR beyond spinal health.

I discovered I have a knack for moving people, especially women, out of a stuck place, into a place of freedom, hope and joy. And that look, when hope breaks through in someone's eye? That’s addictive.

I felt like I had more to share. And it was stifled within the walls of my practice. Not only do I want to reach more people where distance is currently a barrier, I also want to reach my patients, with love and support, that they can check into and out of when they have time.

So what is The Aligned Life? It’s a podcast, you bet. But it’s also an online community of women, a place of growth and learning, a place to relax and heal. It’s a journey that we will take together.

You were put on this earth to do something. I want to give you the courage and confidence to go get it. Follow along and let’s make something special. XO

For better or for worse Covid-19 forced us all to go cold turkey on busy-ness.

With the sudden closure OF THE WORLD, we were all forced to do a major pivot, and some with more grace than others ;). Teens were not exempt from this shift. In fact, the bulk of them have inherited our addiction to packed schedules, so the pivot was very hard on them too.

Cal is back on the show today, and she shares her experience around the Covid lockdowns.

She explains about how the intensity put a spotlight on their roles within her large group of friends: The leaders rose to the challenge and kept the group connected, while some people fell off the grid. She learned the feeling of stagnation inside and out, and figured out the quickest route out of it. She was given an opportunity to audit her friendships and define her own role among them.

I’m always blown away by the depth and maturity of this daughter of mine. Her main message today? Learn about your tendencies and boundaries now, BEFORE you find yourself in a crisis. When you find yourself in over your head - endure it, take the lesson and keep moving. And finally, time is precious, so be careful who you spend it with.

Hold onto your seat and get ready for this one! Kellee Hann is a force to be reckoned with, and if she can’t inspire you to take that first step toward your dream life, no one will.

Kelee worked for years in a supportive role to many successful entrepreneurs. Eventually she decided to use her powers to her own benefit, and started two booming businesses in daycare, and photography.

Once she tried her hand at boudoir photography, she knew without a doubt, this was her calling. In this role, she is sees women come into her studio vulnerable and apprehensive. Together, through a bond of trust and encouragement, these women blossom into energetic, confident forces, right in front of her eyes … and camera.

Her message to women who long for more for themselves: Life is short. Stop making excuses. Stop letting other people tell you you can’t. Take that first step. Put yourself in a position where you can’t afford to fail. Because what you truly can’t afford, is to give up on your dream.

Today we’re talking circle of influence. Is there anyone in your circle who needs to be muted?

When you feel the pull toward a new idea, do you bounce it off the people in your circle? Most of us do. But how many people in that circle poo-poo on your idea because it scares them. How often are you dissuaded by the impending “I told you so’s” coming down the line if you fail?

If your heart, gut, intuition and mindset are all high-fiving when they hear your idea - that is all you need. Setting a boundary with the negative Nancy’s (or Ned’s) in your group can help you redefine the role they have in your decision making.

Wins are super fun. But those fails, girl … those are the biggest gift. Don’t be afraid of them, and certainly don’t be afraid of the people who would ignore the benefits of that wealth of experience and rub it in your face.

Your inner guidance is all that you need. Trust yourself.

The world needs more Jodee Bocks, but believe me when I say there is only one!

Since she learned to read as a toddler, Jodee's mind moved beyond the capacity of most children her age, and she found herself asking life’s big questions – which came as a shock to many of the adults in her life. In fact, it threw many of them and they attempted to appease her with generic answers. So she went and found the real answers on her own.

Smart as a whip, she once overheard her teacher ask her mom about bumping her up a grade. When her mother pushed back against the idea, Jodee decided it was because she wasn’t good enough. She created a story about herself that caused her to bury her success and potential to fit in.

That story stuck with her … like, forever.

Learn how she finally broke out of the box her story created, and how she has gone on to help others do the same. Her ability to hold space for others to explore and examine possibilities for themselves and their lives, was so striking she built a career on it.

About Jodee

ANTI. What a doozy of a prefix.

I was recently accused of being anti-medicine, and it occurred to me that I’ve been called anti-this-or-that quite a few times before.

First, there is absolutely a time or place for clinics and hospitals. Crisis care is different. But when the body needs healing, I believe in healing. The body is brilliant. I am not anti-medicine, I am PRO healing.

My main message is this. When someone minimizes you and your beliefs, those comments can make us feel like we’ve been put into a box, and it gets real easy to hide in there. If you find yourself there: Bust out of your box. We don’t need more people standing against things. We need people who are FOR the good things. Bring your FOR to the world – we need to hear your voice.

I always describe Kristin Jacobsen and her family as one of my “lighthouse” families. She takes the light we cultivate together, and shines it on everyone she meets.

When her son Alex was young he had recurring ear infections. With her doctor's assurance she assumed it was normal. She masked the symptoms with medications for years and but when the size of the dosages outgrew her son, she knew she needed to find another way.

When she showed up at my office thirteen years ago, she was doubtful to say the least. Since then she's grown into an advocate for chiropractic and a holistic approach to health.

Tune in as she gives her testimony, describes her path away from meds and into healthy, happy, resilient bodies for her whole family. In her own words, chiropractic allows “your body to do what it was meant to do.” Encouraging words for these times indeed!

ABOUT KRISTIN

I am married to Dave, a mother of two, Alex 16 and Alyssa 10 and we have been going to see Dr. Tiffany for approximately 13 years. I work full time in the real estate industry at a local title company. We started chiropractic when our son was 3 and wish we had started earlier. I never believed in chiropractic before because no one in my family had ever been to one. My mom is a retired OB nurse and some of her co-workers recommended that we go to one when Alex was a baby when they heard about all of his ear infections the first year of his life. We blew it off as we thought no running to the doctor monthly was normal and getting meds as you know he is in daycare and that is "normal!" It may be the norm for society's way of thinking but sorry that is not normal! NO WAY! I regret that we followed that path, but forever thankful that we found Dr. T for our entire family. Our daughter, Alyssa, has never been on medications or to a doctor for any illness. Yes, she gets and occasional illness that has no severity or longevity. She has been seeing Dr. T. since she was born. We all go to Dr. T for our wellness journey and have been for the past 13+ years.

This woman. You guys.

Lacy Salander has covered the spectrum of emotion from the depths of despair to the summit of joy – and not just once – she's bounced back and forth quite a few times.

At age 17 she was diagnosed with Mayer–Rokitansky–Küster–Hauser syndrome (MRKH), an incredibly rare disorder that results in being born without a uterus. Being 17 is hard enough, but processing a rare disorder and the fact that you will not bare children is something else.

This struggle left her feeling isolated and out of control, and to regain that control she developed eating disorders that claimed her joy though adulthood. Struggling with body dysmorphia, she was obsessed with the scale, weighing herself more than 20 times a day.

She grew into adulthood and despite the odds, overcame her eating disorders, only to be diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, where a whole new journey began.

Tune in to find out how she turned her lack of uterus into a fulfilling role as a mother, her eating disorders into a powerful health journey and her MS diagnosis into a journey of self-discovery and an ability to listen to her body, meet its demands and treat it with love.

Losing her mother to a heart-wrenching battle with addictions sent the usually tough-as-nails Cass Kasowski, into a tailspin. Devastated, she found herself battling PTSD, anxiety, panic attacks, insomnia and vivid dreams of her mom - all of which left her questioning whether she would ever bounce back. While she trusted her resilience, Cass knew that this time she couldn’t do it alone. Ultimately it was community, patience, connection and communication that saved her from this year-long battle.

In typical Cass style, she took this long, dark experience and turned it into a beacon of light. She started Beth’s Place Recovery, where she has dedicated her life to helping people overcome the disease of addiction. Her explanation of who these people are and what they are struggling with will leave you with a better understanding of their humanity and definitely help you to empathize with these deeply feeling, misunderstood people.

Some of the key takeaways from this vulnerable discussion are:

  • Emotional intelligence is the foundation of healing
  • Communication allows her patients to feel heard and safe
  • Addiction starts with pain and ends with pain
  • We are supposed to be flawed and imperfect
  • We have been conditioned to lead from a place of fear
  • The 2 top addictions she sees in this area is methamphetamine and alcohol
  • Many of the drugs out there leave no room for a second chance

More About Cass

On March 5th, 2017, Cassie's mother lost her battle with addiction. Beth's Place is dedicated to her and the 24 million Americans who suffer from addiction. Beth's Place is dedicated to changing the conversation around mental health and addiction. Cassie is the founder of Beth's Place, and the primary Addiction Practitioner. This one’s a keeper! I took SIX PAGES OF NOTES!

Dr. Tonya Loken is a Naturopathic Doctor and nutritionist, who practices at Catalyst Medical Center, in Fargo, ND. There is no shortage of recommendations out there and most of them are conflicting. Dr. Tonya gives us the hard truth about Covid-19 and explains the best way to beef up your immune system to handle it.

She also explains how naturopaths can help optimize our health, that our “symptoms” are often just our beautiful, amazing, RESILIENT bodies, responding to the abuse we put them through. Diarrhea, constipation, insomnia, irritability – many of these “common” problems are only that - common. They are not normal and they are not just a part of life you have to deal with.

We also cover the many difficult blessings that have come directly from throwing on of the emergency-brake of life, and how to come out happier and healthier on the other end of the stress that comes with homeschooling, working from home and spending every waking minute with your family.

The vitamin protocol she recommends in the podcast are: Vitamin A, B, C, D, Elderberry and Zinc, and attention to your nutrition. Tune in and grab a pencil to make some notes on dosages, or visit her website to set up a call and have a chat with her yourself!

I know a lot of us are struggling with time management and trying to maximize our quarantine days - so I wanted to talk to the QUEEN of self-scheduling (a.k.a. my daughter), Callyn Johnson about her tried-and-true techniques. This conversation was recorded a little while ago, but it seems like something everyone needs to hear right now.

Not many people associate a schedule with freedom, but Callyn learned early on that time blocking allows for exactly that. She’s never struggled with self-discipline, but it does take work, and today she shares with us the many benefits of planning your time, and her favorite ways to do it.

The world has been forced into a state of incredible change – how does it sit with you? For some it’s great, and has been a time to reconnect and boil life down to what truly matters. For others, not so much.

This time has called on all of us to pivot. To change our focus and direction. Amidst the challenges we have been blessed with some down time, and in it I’m hearing reports of values and priorities shifting, old habits and beliefs being shrugged off, and seeing the things that matter in a whole new light.

This applies in non-corona life too. When life taps you on the shoulder and says, “Hey, something’s off”, do you avoid and numb it to escape the call to pivot? Maybe it’s the message you’ve been waiting for – encouraging you to pivot towards alignment and opportunity.

When it feels like the chaos around you is stronger than you are, I am incredibly happy to share that you are wrong! Sometimes simply taking a step back in life and seeing it “zoomed out” gives us all the perspective we need.

In addition to listening in, I want to invite you to my online event, designed to transform your body and mind in time of fear and uncertainty. It’s tomorrow (Thursday, April 16) and it’s going to be amazing! Learn more about it here.

Just as COVID-19 has “aggressively coaxed” many people into educating their children at home, Marilyn felt forced to remove her son from the school system, and homeschool him instead. Reluctant from the word go, she didn’t know that homeschooling would eventually save her family from a horrible fate, and actually move them from a place of hopeless depression, to a place of joy and intention.

A former Special Ed teacher – Marilyn never thought she’d be using her skills for her own son. But when Wyatt started to have significant trouble at school, things went from bad to the worst very quickly. His aggressive behaviors at school, started to spill into home life, and life became hell.

In their darkest hour, murder/suicide actually become a viable option. A real one. They had nothing left.

Marilyn’s commitment to her family, self-improvement and relentless pursuit of answers led her into many “coincidences” she felt were divinely inspired.

From overwhelming despair, shame and loneliness, Marilyn graciously walks us down the path she took, that led to a place of joyful homeschooling and enjoyment with her son that she never thought would be possible, and wouldn’t trade for anything.

Listen up: You NEED to hear this.

About Marilyn

Marilyn is married to Dean and they have two children ages nine and 14. Marilyn has always enjoyed wearing a variety of hats over the years but one she never expected to wear was the hat of a homeschool mom. Marilyn has a degree in elementary and special education and after teaching for a few years shifted gears to work in the non-profit world serving people with disabilities for over 25 years. Marilyn is currently The Chief Visionary Officer for Trailblazing Communications. She finds great joy in helping people release the trauma and drama in their lives so they can experience more abundance and freedom.

Your body is talking to you – are you listening!? This week on the podcast, I'm following up on Cal’s episode (she was on last week and it was INCREDIBLE – listen to it with your teens!), bringing my perspective to the commonly misunderstood phenomenon of self-care.

So many times when we’re feeling run down, we assume it’s because our body is tired, so we try to treat the body with a nap or a coffee. More often than not, that exhaustion is telling us to take a mental break - and no - that doesn’t always mean stopping everything for a guided meditation.

Your body is telling you what it needs (including the brain and heart parts of the body) and in this episode I go over how to hear that voice, how to decipher what it’s asking you to do, and how to finally move out of that nagging exhaustion.

We’ve all been there – low energy, sluggish and unmotivated. It’s true, sometimes we’ve pushed our bodies too hard, but sometimes there's more to it than that.

Cal’s back with some INCREDIBLE insights to share about recharging your batteries as a youth/teenager/young adult. As an athlete Callyn is very in tune with her body, and that communication has allowed her to really hone in on the difference between physical and mental tiredness.

Let Cal give you some insight on how important it is to LISTEN to your body, and give it what it REALLY needs. Tiredness isn't always cured by early bedtimes and naps. Sometimes a little splurge and self-care is just what the doctor ordered. ;)

I recently had a discussion with my son about the difference between fault and responsibility. This is an issue that affects every one of us, and when handled properly, can propel us into great things. But when we lean into fault as an excuse or a crutch, we're setting ourselves up for patterns of avoidance and excuses. Tune in to hear my take on it.

Cal is back for a great discussion on the importance of posture.

How you carry yourself matters. Picture this: a hunched forward girl, looking down, slowly walking down the hall. How does she feel about herself? Confident and ready to take on the world OR sad, depressed, trying to hide?

How you carry yourself says so much about your health and your confidence. Do a quick check in the mirror, be aware the next time walking into school or work, make eye contact with your teacher or boss, wear clothes that make you feel awesome…and feel the difference. It’s real, it’s palpable.

This is an incredibly special episode. Keely Schlichting and her family have faced one of the most difficult years: losing their son’s best friend to brain cancer. The impact Landon (12) has made in our community led to the mayor naming a day after him, the beginning of a foundation and Landon’s Light – a funeral with so many attendees it needed to be moved to an event center to accommodate it.

Landon’s impact on our community is of course, nothing like the impact it made on their family and so many thousands of people. Their family mantra “Live like Landon lived” has guided them through healing. Keely learned how to “wake up”, fill buckets, navigate the needs of her child, create space for her family to experience these huge emotions, and her take on remaining present, is something you simply have to hear for yourself.

In my recent episode with Callyn, we talked about how to reset when anxious feelings take over.

Anxiety is what happens when the left side of the brain - our source of logical thought - goes into overdrive. The best way to snap out of that way of thinking, is to get out of the hamster wheel and do things that you love. Do something with your kid that give you the warm, bubbly feelings in your stomach. Help your brain feel EASE instead of STRESS. Observe how you feel and be aware of what you observe.

We’ve got a fun one today! Cal is back and we’re talking about learning how to lighten up when you’re stressed, worried, anxious or “stuck in the mud.”

When we’re feeling that way, we’re stuck in the left, logical side of the brain. So what can we do to bump ourselves over in to the right, creative side?

To disengage the decision-making part of the brain and activate the flow area of the brain, pull out your crayon, markers and paint and get started. Anything that sparks your creativity will help - JUST START!!

Everything I know I learned from sports. I joke, but it’s kind of real. Growing up with active, competitive parents, it’s what we knew. Our family time was spent in gyms and hotels with the people we loved the most.

Can it be a grind? You bet.

Can you go too far? Most definitely. Have I? Pretty sure…

But the truth is, being a part of something bigger than yourself, is so important. So, especially if you're a teen or adolescent, go and find yourself a team - it could change your life.
