Friendly Podcast Guide: Season 2 launches September 3rd!Hi! I’m Andi Smiley, the Friendly Podcast Guide, and I’ve been in the podcasting world for 4 years. I’ve learned so much during that time, but I still don’t know everything. That’s why on my show I talk to podcast hosts I admire about their skills and insights so that you and I can improve our shows in a way that leaves us feeling empowered and not bogged down by more busy work.Podcasting is such an amazing tool for us to amplify our voices and serve our communities (and by us I mean women with kids who are still at home). But podcasting definitely has its challenges too, like: stagnant download numbers, feeling alone and drowning in all of the things that we “should” be doing.Join me every week as we learn together from podcasters that I admire so we can elevate our shows without it taking over our lives.
Have you ever tried to get a five year old to sit still and talk into a microphone without touching it? Let's just say it was an adventure getting my daughter, Clara, to do this interview with me. She desperately wanted to be like her brother and have her own episode where she got to talk about her favorite podcasts. Enjoy these excellent podcast recommendations from my five year old!

This month has been a bit of an emotional rollercoaster for me. Introducing you to so many amazing people in the ALS community as part of ALS Awareness Month has been so much fun, but I've also been fiercely missing my brother Ryan, who died from ALS last June.
To cap off a month full of inspiring people, I'm excited to introduce you to Lorri, the host of the podcast, I'm Dying to Tell You. She helps others to find hope through her inspirational podcast guests.

Erin is a fellow podcast lover who I found on Instagram. She has a special place in my heart because she has ALS and she is in her twenties. This month all of my episodes are centered around the ALS community. It has been so much fun introducing you to the inspiring and lovely people that are in the ALS community. Today you get to meet Erin and hear all about her favorite podcasts.

May is ALS Awareness Month. If you aren't sure what ALS is, it's a disease that attacks cells in the body that control movement. It's a neurodegenerative disease, meaning cells of the nervous system die over time during someone's ALS journey.
It's an absolutely devastating disease with no cure. My brother, Ryan passed away from ALS a year ago next month, and I'm determined to help bring more awareness to this awful disease so that we can find better treatments and a cure.
Today, I'm excited to introduce you to a podcast that is hosted by James Smith, who shares his ALS Journey. His show used to be called Beyond MND so you will hear him refer to it by that name. It is now called, Diagnosed Dad. Everyone can learn something and be inspired by his ALS Journey.

For the month of May, which is ALS Awareness Month, I'm dedicating all of the Friendly Podcast Guide episodes to helping raise awareness of ALS and the amazing people in this community such as the I AM ALS organization.
Almost a year ago, my brother passed away from complications with ALS. Before Ryan was diagnosed, I had a vague knowledge of what ALS is, but that was it. I didn't know that there is no cure and no treatments that are able to prolong the life of someone with ALS.
Now, I am intimately aware of this disease and I want to be part of the movement that is helping the ALS community thrive and eventually find a cure. I AM ALS is an organization on the forefront of that mission.

Not many people know this about me, but I am a family history enthusiast. The only party I throw every year, besides my kids birthday parties, is a Dia de los Muertos party, where we all get together and talk about our ancestors. We also eat really good food that is all of our ancestors' favorites.
When I found a podcast all about family history and learning about people's stories, I knew that I had to talk about it on my show.

I used to be one of those people that had to have my New Year's resolutions or affirmation in place and concrete by January 1st.
A couple of years ago, when I had sick kids for the whole week between Christmas and New Year's, I realized how silly it was to put an arbitrary deadline on something that I was hoping to work on for an entire year. I decided that the entire month of January is when I would figure out what my new year will look like.

One of my favorite types of podcasts to listen to in the winter is cozy podcasts. One of the first cozy podcasts I ever found was the All Things Cozy podcast. I've already done an episode where I chatted with the hosts, Matt and Gillian about their show, but I wanted an excuse to have them back on.
I asked if they could share some of their favorite podcasts and they agreed! In this episode Matt and Gillian both give two of their favorite podcasts that are cozy. Hopefully you will find a new favorite podcast too!

How does bedtime go at your house? Do you wish you had an easy bedtime routine?
Let me just tell you that bedtime usually starts out great at our house, but when it's time for me to say goodnight and leave the room, everything falls apart rather quickly.
This is why the kids now listen to sleep podcasts after I leave the room.
This week's kid podcast is one of the podcasts in our bedtime rotation called Koala Moon. It is wonderfully soothing, but still entertaining.

So you’re looking for a podcast, maybe it’s one that’ll help you learn about something specific or maybe you’re just looking for something to keep your kids entertained while waiting in the carpool pick up line, don’t worry I’ve got you covered.
I love podcasts. I use them daily in a myriad of different ways. Just today I used them to connect with God, get caught up on the news of the day, entertain my kids while we were running errands, help me learn more about how to run a successful business and make me laugh super hard while I was doing the dishes. You too can have podcasts that cover all of these situations and even more. You COULD scour the internet to try and find all of those podcasts… reading podcast lists and trying to figure out if they’re a good fit for you just by reading words from a stranger OR you could listen to my show where I give you the facts of the podcast and the vibe of the show through an interview with the host or a clip from one of the podcast’s episodes. Finding a podcast doesn’t have to be overwhelming or hard, you just need to listen to The Friendly Podcast Guide.
Last month, I did an entire episode about cozy podcasts. Listening to a cozy podcast is one of my favorite ways to lean into the fall season. If you want to listen to that episode, it is linked on the full show notes.
Today's episode is also about cozy podcasts, but kind of a subgenre of cozy podcasts, food podcasts! If you are a foodie, you will find a new favorite (or two). There are so many amazing food podcasts out there to enjoy.

One of my favorite ways to get cozy as the fall season sets in is to listen to podcasts that make me feel cozy.
Obviously, this is at least a little subjective, but I wanted to give you a list of some of my favorite cozy podcasts so that you'll hopefully be able to find one that you can listen to while snuggled under a blanket and drinking a warm beverage.

You know how there are just people in this world that bring high energy wherever they go? The host of this week's kid podcast is one of those people. Her name is Melissa Victor, but you can also call her Melly.
She is the host of Stoopkid Stories, a podcast that has so much joy and heart that I'm sure your kids will love it as much as mine do. She tells stories about a group of 7 inner city kids who are Black, bringing important Black representation to the kid podcast world! I have a weird relationship with Halloween. I love costumes, Halloween decorations, and I have a very strong sweet tooth, but I get nightmares incredibly easy.
While I love to get into the Halloween spirit and bring that fun spirit into our house, I also don't want to bring on the nightmares for myself or my kids. This is why I've put together a list of Halloween podcasts and Halloween podcast episodes for you to listen to as a family.
These Halloween podcasts will help you enjoy spooky season and get into the Halloween spirit without anyone getting too scared!

Many parts of our daily life date back to the Roman Empire, even if we don't realize it. From the names of the planets in our solar system, to modern roads and highways. It would probably be smart to learn a bit about how the Roman Empire fell.

I'm pretty sure I'm not the only mom who has a weird relationship with screens and screen time. On one hand, I love that I can use my phone and computer to connect with people from home while in the midst of being a mom of little humans. But it's also super hard sometimes to focus on the present moment when there is a phone with instant gratification sitting in my pocket.
Luckily, the Mindful With Media podcast is here to help us use technology in a way that is helpful and useful while seeing screen time go down instead of up.
In this podcast you'll hear about why Alex started this podcast how she wants it to bring hope to moms.

I found some podcast episodes about anxiety, depression, and self-care to hopefully give you a starting point for yourself or to share with someone you love who is struggling with mental health.
