On the latest episode the YKY gang discuss 2006's Apocalypto. This adventure film was directed by Mel Gibson and features a cast of mostly unknowns speaking in the original language. Did the language and subtitles throw the gang off? Does Gibson's own personal problems impact the enjoyment of the film? Do we get into a deep dive about our own experiences on vacation? For that you will have to watch the whole show.

Tonight the YKY gang discuss Ralph's pick, Academy Award nominee 2022's Triangle of Sadness. Starring Harris Dickinson, the late Charlbi Dean and in a smaller but memorable role Woody Harrelson. A different kind of film about social influencers, the super wealthy and the difference in the classes all set aboard a Yacht and isolated island. Think Lord of the Flies with unlikable people and you'll get the gist. Let's what the gang thinks.
On the latest episode of YKY it's a Hollywood Golden age classic, so you know that means it was John's pick. His pick is the 1936 Frank Capra classic, Mr. Deeds Goes to Town. Starring the great Gary Cooper, Jean Arthur and Lionel Stander (Max on Hart to Hart). It's the story of Longfellow Deeds from Mandrake Falls who inherits 20 million dollars. It's Frank Capra so you know it's small town America VS the big city machine. Who do you think will win. That's why they call it "Capra Corn" and a classic.
On the latest episode of YKY Classic we look at another film recently released and a Best Picture nominee The Banshees of Inisherin. Written and directed by Martin McDonagh and starring Best Actor nominee Colin Farrell, Best Supporting Actor nominee Brenden Gleeson, Best Supporting Actress nominee Kerry Condon and Best Supporting Actor nominee Barry Keoghan. Now that's a lot of nominees. Does it deserve all the. accolades? Is it a black comedy or something darker? If you don't want SPOILERS stop watching at the 16:59 mark.
On the latest episode the YKY gang get a little cultured with Chris's pick 1985's A Room with a View. Directed by James Ivory and starring in her first movie role a very young Helena Bonham Carter, Maggie Smith, Denholm Elliot, Julian Sands and in his 2nd American movie Daniel Day-Lewis. Chris strongly defends his choice and once we understand why he first saw this movie it becomes very clear why he loves this film. What about the rest of the YKY rabble? Watch and see. SPOILERS!
On the latest episode of YKY we go back to the 70's with a Sydney Pollack film, The Yakuza. Starring Robert Mitchum, Ken Takakura, Brian Keith, Richard Jordan, Keiko Kishi and James Shigeta (Takagi in Die Hard). This is an East meets West Character study about debt, loyalty and honor with a screenplay by legends Robert Towne and Paul Schrader. Ralph is in his 70's happy place but what about the rest of the gang.
Tis the season for the Wheel of Holiday movies. We review Ralph's choice, 2022's A Christmas Story, Christmas. A sequel to the beloved holiday classic A Christmas Story (1983). This one was produced and stars the original Ralphie, Peter Billingsley. Does it capture the magic of the original film or is it a blatant money grab? Is it destined to become a must watch Holiday classic? These questions and more are answered by the YKY gang who had some interesting takes. Stay till the end to see what the winner of the Wheel of Holiday movies picks. When you see who wins the pick you will not be surprised with their "Holiday" choice. Now careful or you'll "shoot your eye out".
Continuing the tradition in December of picking our favorite Holiday Themed Films, the Holiday wheel chose Drew. Drew's Holiday pick is the 1999 Classic Holiday film, Eyes Wide Shut. Directed by Stanley Kubrick, his last film before his death, and starring Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, who were married at the time of filming. You can imagine how this choice could open the door to a discussion about whether this is truly a "holiday film". If you like your holidays with orgies, crumbling marriages, objectification of women and the F word, then you are in for a magical treat that will open your heart to the holidays. Mmmmm...wonder what I thought? Guess, then watch with your eyes wide open.
In the latest YKY episode we discuss Chris's "Never seen pick", 1970's, The Looking Glass War. A gritty British espionage thriller in the vein of The Spy Who Came in From the Cold. Based on the novel by John le Carré it's directed by Frank Pierson and stars Christopher Jones, Ralph Richardson, Pia Degermark and in only his 4th film, Sir Anthony Hopkins. It's a 70's movie so you know Ralph will love it but will the rest of the gang? Is it Bond or is it boring? Watch and find out.
On the latest episode of YKY we review and discuss our wining community poll viewer pick, 2018’s Andhanhun. This review will include MAJOR SPOILERS so if you have not seen the film be warned. Directed and co-written by Sriram Raghaven and starring, Ayushmann Khurrana, Radhika Apte, Manav Vij, 70’s and 80’s Bollywood star, Anil Dhawan and in a performance that can only be called, delightfully evil, Tabu. This dark comedy thriller came highly recommended so we were all looking forward to seeing it. Did our viewers get it right with this choice? How does it compare to the other films we’ve seen so far? At any point does the cast break out in an RRR type dance number? Will we ever let our fans pick our movies again? You’ll have to watch all the way through to find out. Thanks to all the participated in the poll.
This week we take our second look at the comic rockumentary with special guest Joe Macre. Joe was the original bass player for the acclaimed cult band Crack The Sky. Rolling Stone Magazine declared Crack The Sky "the Beatles of Baltimore." The magazine gave their eponymous first album their "debut of the year" award. Joe says "This Is Spinal Tap" best represents what it was like being in a rock band in the late-70s and early-80s. We don't talk much about the movie, but he keeps us entertained with the history of his band, and life on the road with acts like Frank Zappa, Styx, Boston, Foghat and Cheap Trick among others.
On the latest episode of YKY ( @Yippee-Ki-Yay Mother Podcast ) we are back to our Indian films. This one was recommended by a lot of you, so in keeping with the Halloween spirit this week's film is 2018's Tumbbad. Co-directed by Rahi Anil Barve, Anand Gandhi and Adesh Prasad. This is a atmospheric film about the myth of a God, gold coins and greed. It was a film that took 6 years to make. It is not a horror fest but the last 20 minutes....surprising and creepy. Leave recommendations on more films in the comment section. We will pick the top three and set up a poll in the community section so you can vote on what we should watch next. You have to subscribe to the channel to access the poll so make sure you're subscribed. Thanks for the support. More Indian films to come.
On the latest episode we discuss Ralph's "Never seen pick" 1974's, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. This classic horror film was directed by Tobe Hooper and featured Gunnar Hansen in the iconic role of "Leatherface". Some of the crew had never seen this film, in addition to Ralph, so it was interesting to hear the takes on the film. Does it hold up? Does it deserve its cult like status? Based on last week's views is it a good chance the next film will be from India? Watch and find out. Although, I'd bet the farm on picking an Indian film.
On the latest episode of YKY we take a break from the Bollywood/Tollywood run we have been on with John's horror pick, 2010's Tucker & Dale VS Evil. It stars Tyler Labine, Alan Tudyk and Katrina Bowman. It was directed and written by Eli Craig. It's a complete change of pace from the films we have been watching. It's a horror/comedy flick that takes the "College kids go camping and are terrorized by backwoods hilbillies" and flips it on its head. Does the genre bending work? Does it live up to Ralph's praise? If our views drop will be right back with an Indian film? Tune in to find out.
On the latest episode of YKY we discuss Debbie's pick, which came highly recommended by our Indian watchers. We were looking for a more "grounded Indian film" after the last two we watched. This definitely meets that criteria. It's the true story of the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre and one man's two-decade plan to assassinate the man responsible for the horrific act against the people of India. It is a powerful and disturbing film directed by Shoojit Sircar with a mesmerizing lead performance by Vicky Singh. This film is not for the weak of heart do not expect RRR or Baahubali. This is a serious film about serious events.
Well, based on the overwhelming International response to our RRR review, the latest episode of YKY is one that was suggested to us by some of our supporters. Sean picked the 2015 film, Baahubali: The Beginning. Directed by the same director of RRR, S.S. Rajamouli and starring Prabhas, Rana Daggubati and Tamannah Bhatia. Does it stack up to RRR? Does Drew continue his Indian history classroom? Does Ralph question the speeding up of dance numbers. Does YKY become a Bollywood, Tollywood movie review show to continue increasing our viewership? Good questions. Watch and learn.
On the latest episode of YKY we go to Tollywood to discuss Drew's "Never seen pick, 2022's RRR.(Rise, Roar, Revolt). This a fictional story of two true life Indian freedom fighters who never actually met. This "what if" film was directed by S.S Rajamouli and stars N.T. Rama Rao Jr. and Ram Charen Teja (The Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise of India) in what is one of the craziest, colorful, violent, beautiful and even contains incredible musical production numbers. I can truly say I have never seen anything like this. Did the 3 hr and 7 minute run time turn the gang off? Was the use of animals in an amazing action scene remind us of Dr. Doolittle? You have to watch or listen to find out.
On the latest episode of YKY we go back to film school with John's "never seen pick" 1954's classic, Seven Samurai. Directed brilliantly by Akira Kurosawa (Also wrote the screenplay) and starring Takashi Shimura, Keiko Tsushima and in a stand out performance, Toshiro Mifune. We dissect the film and of course make comparisons to the classic 1960 re-make, The Magnificent Seven. Does it live up to the hype? Is it a film that has really influenced modern cinema? Listen to the discussion and then you can decide.
The latest episode of YKY's "Never Seen" pick is Sean's choice, Francis Ford Coppola's 1981's One from the Heart. The controversial film that killed his Zoetrope Studios. The film was universally panned when it was released in 1981. Curious when you consider the stellar cast including, Teri Garr, Frederick Forrest, Raul Julia, Harry Dean Stanton, Natassja Kinski and Lainie Kazaan. Is it a musical, a romantic comedy, an avant-garde new wave film or simply a passion project from a director who wanted to re-create the old Hollywood studio system? All of that gets worked into the discussion around this film. Let us know what you think in the comment section.
In keeping with the "recommend a movie you have not seen", the latest episode of YKY is Chris's choice. He chose Carol Reed's 1947 film Odd Man Out. A film about an Irish Nationalist attempting to evade the police after being injured in a botched robbery. If you're a fan of far superior, The 3rd Man, you will see the Reed style throughout the movie. It stars James Mason in a role that catapulted his career and look for early roles of Dan O'Herilhy (The "old man" in RoboCop) and William Hartnell the original Dr. Who.)
On the latest episode of YKY, we discuss Debbie's pick, 500 Days of Summer. This "love story"...not really, sparked a lively discussion about love, true love and what happens after a break up. If you ever experienced love or lost love, you may connect with this episode. The film directed by Marc Webb and stars Joseph-Gordon Levitt and as Summer, Zooey Deschanel. If you ever had your heart broken be cautious with this one.
"Rosebud". With that word the YKY discuss what is considered the greatest American film ever made, 1941's Citizen Kane. Co-written, directed and starring the 25 year old wonder kid, Orson Welles. This is the first choice of our current format of picking a movie we have not seen. (I know, not seen Citizen Kane...how does that happen?) This was Ralph's choice who doesn't historically enjoy B&W films with the old school acting. What did he think? What did the gang think? Watch and find out. You may be surprised, I was. Now...."News on the March".
On the latest episode of YKY, romance is in the air. We discuss Debbie’s pick, the 1999 Romantic Comedy, Notting Hill. A cute story about a girl who meets a boy and falls in love. Starring Julia Roberts, Hugh Grant and a great supporting cast of British actors. Written and directed by Roger Michell and written by Richard Curtis, who also wrote Four Weddings and a Funeral and Love Actually. It definitely has a British feel. Does the group get swept up in the romance or do they just not buy it? Watch and find out.
Tonight the YKY gang enter the Arthurian Legend with the film The Green Knight. Directed with a stylish flair by David Lowery and starring Dev Patel, Alicia Vikander, Joel Edgerton, Sean Harris and as the Green Knight Ralph Ineson. Does the film, based on a 14th century poem, translate to a current audience, that is part of our discussion. Me, I think I prefer Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Run away! Run Away!
On the latest episode of YKY, a film class staple. 1955's Bad day at Black Rock. Directed by John Sturges and starring Spencer Tracy, Robert Ryan and an all-star supporting cast. It's a tension filled mystery that ends with a fiery conclusion. This was John's pick so you can bet Ralph will have lots to say about it. If you have never seen this film it may be one you want to check out. Film class is now open.
On the latest episode of YKY we discuss the film noir classic The Maltese Flacon. Directorial debut of John Houston and in.a career defining role, Humphrey Bogart as Sam Spade. This is a film that changed the "Detective movies" and influences current films. Pay attention to the fantastic supporting cast who play off of Bogart beautifully. This is a film...that dreams are made of.
Tonight on YKY, Chris imports a film from Hong Kong, 1994's Chungking Express. This film was distributed in the US as the result of Quentin Tarantino who fell in love with it. Directed by Kar-Wai-Wong and starring Takeshi Kaneshiro, Tony Chiu-Wal Leung, Brigitte Lin and in her film debut, Hong Kong Pop superstar Faye Wong. If you're a fan of Asian cinema you may enjoy this "ethereal" story of lost and new found love. If not...well I hope you like the song California Dreaming.
On the latest episode of YKY we discuss 1980's film The 9th Configuration. Directed by the Exorcist author William Peter Blatty. It is an interesting film that is tough to describe. Is it a Marx Brothers comedy, a dark look into mental illness of Viet Nam vets, or is it a jumble of disconnected scenes. We'll let you decide. Lots of familiar faces in the cast led by Stacy Keach, Ed Flanders and Walking Dead actor Scott Wilson. If you have seen this film let us know your thoughts. If you have not seen it, let me know if you want to after our discussion. PS: Stay out of Biker Bars like the one in this film.
This is a very special episode of YKY. Joining the gang tonight is Gary Goldstein. A fan of the show who wanted wanted to get on our podcast who also happens to be an LA Times movie critic. On top of that he worked on the marketing on a film we discussed in a previous episode: Streets of Fire. So we have a great discussion about that and his choice 1976's classic...Taxi Driver. Starring Robert DeNiro in his first role after Godfather II, Cybil Shepard, Albert Brooks, Peter Boyle, Harvey Keitel and a 14 year old Jodie Foster. A gritty and grimy 70's film that is a tough watch . Interesting takes all around. Let us know what you think. You....talking to me...I'm the only one typing here.
This latest episode of YKY is another round robin, this time it's films we watch that are "guilty pleasures". Now that term has many different meanings and that becomes a big part of our discussion. Let us know if you agree and if you have a "guilty pleasure" of your own.

This week's episode of YKY is testosterone fueled as we discuss our favorite 1980's Action Movies. This is a round robin episode so we each get to bring in one pick. It always leads to a wider discussion about the genre. This one went long due to the amount of great 80's Action Films. Let us know your favorite in the comment section. "Yippee Ki Yay, Mother"......no..."I'll be back"...wait...."Snakes, why'd it have to be snakes."
On this week's episode of YKY we look back at the box office flop, but cult hit, 1984's Streets of Fire, A Rock n roll fable. Directed by Walter Hill (So yes there will be fog) and starring Michael Paré, a 19 year old Diane Lane, Rick Moranis, Amy Madigan and a very young looking Willem Dafoe. This was a strange blend of genres that also has a fantastic soundtrack. If you like your action dark, foggy, with killer musical numbers you may just love this movie. Ah...the 80's.
Tonight on YKY we discuss Drew's pick, 2019's Ready or Not and yes, it is SPOILER filled. Starring Samara Weaving, Adam Brody, Henry Czerny, Andie MacDowell on a funny and tense story. Not much backstory but plenty of craziness. Check it out if you like bloody and funny. Whatever you do, pick the right card.
On the latest episode of YKY we discuss the film They Call Me Trinity. An Italian western that spoofs Eastwood's The Man with No Name Trilogy. It stars Terence Hill and Bud Spencer who became international superstars after this film was released. It's a very "charming" and a bit "goofy" western. People liked it so much they even made two sequels and a kind of sequel They Call Me Nobody co-starring Henry Fonda. Both movies are worth watching. We even discussed Nobody on Cue it Up so I'll leave that link below.
After last week's disturbing pick, The Vanishing, John has decided to go in a completely different direction with this week's choice. He has chosen the comedy classic, Airplane! Released in 1980 and written & directed by ZAZ (Zucker, Abrahams, Zucker). It's the joke a minute movie that took spoofs (Like Mel Brooks) and brought them to another level. Don't blink or you may miss a joke. It starred actors like Leslie Neilsen, Peter Graves. Lloyd Bridges and Robert Stack who were known for serious roles. Their deadpan delivery is what makes it so funny. All the iconic lines are there: "Don't call me Shirley", "Looks like I picked a bad week to stop...", Excuse me stewardess, I speak Jive". Still holds up and we had fun talking about it.
YKY goes back in time to the 1950 classic Born Yesterday. Directed by George Cukor and starring Broderick Crawford, straight from the Broadway version, William Holden and in her Oscar winning performance as Billie Dawn, Judy Holiday (Role she created on stage). It's an old Hollywood style movie featuring the "dumb blonde" who is smarter than even she thinks, the gruff boyfriend and....William Holden. It all turns right in the end but there are some bumpy, and even scary moments till the conclusion. Let us know what you think in the comment section. No double negatives!.
This latest episode of YKY is of Biblical proportions. We discus films based on stories from the Bible that were also of Epic scale. If you watch our show you know there are opinions of religion that are all over the place. You can bet that will impact some of the choices. I think you will enjoy the discussion. Give is some of your suggestions in the comment section. "So let it be written, so let it be done."
The latest episode of YKY brings back returning guest Eric Hicks. He picked the category of World War II War Films. A huge catalog to choose from and the choices made by the gang are pretty eclectic. Let us know what you think of our choices and if you have a favorite of your own. Remember...war is hell.
On the latest episode of YKY the gang discusses the significance, if there is any, of the Oscars. As the ratings plummet and the nominees for best picture are far from "big box office". With the advent of streaming and social media does anyone get excited any more of seeing "stars". We also focus on one film, a recommendation of Drew, the Power of the Dog. Interesting conversation. The Oscar goes to...our viewers.
It's 2022 and the world is dystopian with food shortages and over population. That's the premise of the 1973's Sc--fi classic, Soylent Green. Starring Charlton Heston and in his last performance, Edward G Robison. How accurate is the depiction of 2022? Does the message hold up? Do we find out what Soylent Green is made of? Does Ralph really get into character on this one? Does Uncle All ever take the virtual mask off? Watch and find out that "SOYLENT GREEN IS......."
Tonight's YKY episode is a feel good film, 1993's Cool Runnings. The true story of the Jamaican Bobsled team that competed in the 88 Calgary Winter Olympics. It stars John Candy (In his last film before he died 6 months later), and as the Bobsled team, Leon, Doug E. Doug, Rawie Lewis and Malik Yoba. At the time this was Disney's highest grossing live action film and while not high art, a fun movie that will make you smile. Did everyone feel that way? Watch and find out. Also, if you can help define what "equipment porn" is leave it in the comment section.
After an amazing weekend of Playoff football, the YKY gang discusses the 1999 Football Film Any Given Sunday. Directed by Oliver Stone and starring, Al Pacino, Jamie Foxx, Dennis Quaid, Cameron Diaz and former NFL greats. Joining us in the discussion is retired Kansas City Chief's Defensive End Eric Hicks. Eric picked the film as a pretty good representation of life in the NFL and offers unique insight of playing the game. Of course, the conversation veered to other topics and other football films. If you are a fan of the sport, you will love this conversation. GET READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL!!!
This week's movie is the 1957 Elia Kazan film, A Face in the Crowd. It starred Andy Griffith in a tour de force performance, unlike his Andy Taylor or Matlock image and his first movie role. Also starring Patricia Neal, Walter Matthau and also making their film debuts Lee Remick and Anthony Franciosa This film about the power of television, advertising used to manipulate the people and absolute power corrupting absolutely. The amazing thing about this film is how it predicted what we see today with Social Media influencers and celebrities and their power to impact everything we buy, watch, listen to and who we vote for. Best of all there are amazing performances and a great script. Love to talk about this film.
In the first episode of 2022 we discuss Chri's pick of the early 70's film, Thunderbolt and Lightfoot, It stars Clint Eastwood and an early Oscar nominated performance by Jeff Bridges. It was the directorial debut of Michael Cimino of Deer Hunter and Heavan's Gate fame. Was it a buddy film, a road trip movie, a modern western or a heist film? Trying to decide that made for a very interesting conversation. Great way to start the new year. Enjoy.
I can honestly say that the latest episode of YKY is the "Cagiest" ever. Tonight’s Round Robin features the movies of Nic Cage. With so many iconic films in a long career to choose from, it will be interesting to see what each of the gang comes up with. We even created a special “Cage Meter” just for this special occasion. (Cage Meter: Normal performance - Crazy wide-eyed Cage) What was most interesting in picking a Cage movie is how big his movie catalog actually is. Plenty to choose from and some very Cagey moments. Enjoy and let us know if you agree with our choices or maybe you have one of your own. Please refer to the Cage Meter when posting yours.
A very special episode of YKY. Tonight we discuss the controversial chapter in the Friday the 13th series, 1985's Friday the 13th Part V: A New Beginning. In the latest YKY episode, we discuss Debbie's pick. From 1956 the Sci-Fi classic...Forbidden Planet. Produced by MGM and starring Leslie Nielsen (Long before Police Squad), Anne Francis, Walter Pidgeon and the true star of the movie Robby the Robot. If you have never seen it you are in for a treat. Star Trek, Lost in Space and Battlestar Galactica would not exist if not for Forbidden Planet. Let's see what the gang thinks and beware of the Monsters from the ID.
Tonight's episode we discuss Ralph's choice of the 1981 Thief. Starring James Caan, Tuesday Weld and in their film debuts Jim Belushi and Robert Prosky. It was directed by Michael Mann and was one of his early films where you can see the beginning of the "Mann style". Is it a heist film, a character study or a revenge thriller? Watch and find out what the gang thinks.
On the latest episode of YKY we discuss John's choice, 1973's The Sting directed by George Roy Hill and starring Paul Newman, Robert Redford and Robert Shaw. This is a classic and much beloved film that John described as one of a few "perfect" movies. Great script, cast and twists and turns in every direction. The whole film is a con and the audience has a ball trying to keep up. Does the gang agree? You never know.
Tonight's episode goes a bit high brow, with Sean's pick. We discuss 1989's Wings of Desire, a German film written and directed by Win Wenders and starring Bruno Ganz and Peter Falk. This film has been called "The most emotionally and spiritually moving film of all time". Do the YKY gang agree? How much does the new guy Chris love this film? Did we raise our game to a high brow level? What do you think?
Tonight is a very special episode of YKY. Not only does it include a deep dive into the classic anti-war film, Dr. Strangelove starring Peter Sellers, George C Scott and directed by the legendary Stanley Kubrick, but Ralph has brought together the original YKY crew (and Drew). Is the magic still there? Do the millennials bring their perspective. Did everyone actually watch the film. You can watch and decide yourself.
Tonight's episode of YKY is 2014's Nightcrawler. Starring Jake Gyllenhaal , Rene Russo and directed by Dan Gilroy. It is a dark film about a real go-getter. Is it a film about the evils of TV News, Capitalism, voyeurism or the can do attitude of America? I'll let you decide. (Hint: Good timing on BroJo's part)
Tonight's episode is bittersweet. The film brought by the new guy Chris is 1994's Barcelona. Is it a thoughtful and clever slice of life movie, a side splitting hilarious laugh out loud riot, or...not so good? This one runs the gambit of emotions. Why bittersweet you ask? This is BroJo's last episode for a while. WoJo is moving forward with her drumming career and Brad has a "project" he is focused on. Won't be the same without the biting sarcasm but YKY must roll on.
Join the gang tonight in the past, present and future as they discuss Time Travel Movies. Chris joins us again and is added as a YKY regular to offer his movie insights. Tonight on Biography. The gang chooses their recommendations for movie biographies. This is a huge genre so the choices are plenty. Let us know in the comments a choice you recommend and if you agree with our picks.
Nothing says 80's comedy better than 1985's Fletch. Directed by Michael Ritchie and written by Andrew Bergman based on the novels by Gregory McDonald but the movie is all Chevy Chase at his peak. Do the different aliases, one liners and pratfalls hold up in 2021? Does the Harold Faltermeyer score, which sounds eerily like Beverly Hills Cop still resonate? Well, watch and see what the YKY crew think. "Moon River..."
"Dying is easy...comedy is hard." With those words tonight's episode of YKY Classic is the 1982 comedy, My Favorite Year. Starring Peter O'Toole, in an Oscar nominated performance, in which he plays Alan Swan, an Errol Flynn type movie star who is a guest on King Kaiser's Comedy Cavalcade, a1950's sketch show. O'Toole shines in this light and breezy comedy. Will he do the show? Will Boss Rojack stop the broadcast? Will Benji Stone get the girl? Will Alan Swan stay sober? It sure was fun to find out. You want to smile...this is the film.
Tonight's episode of YKY turns into a fiery debate. What film caused this? 2020's Oscar contender best picture, Promising Young Woman. That's just some of the issues the gang tackles. Let us know your take. Sounds...promising.

On this episode of YKY we discuss Wojo’s pick, 1994’s The Shawshank Redemption. One of the best adaptations of a Stephen King novel. Did not do a huge box office at the time of its release but a film that has turned into a classic and tops most best film lists. Starring Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman and directed by Frank Darabont. Is there anything new to be learned about this movie? Watch and find out.
Tonight's episode of YKY is a deep dive into the 2019 Independent film, 3 Day Weekend. Joining the gang in the discussion is the film's writer and Director Wyatt McDill and his wife, who also happened to be the producer, Megan Huber. This is a film that is an intricate puzzle where you have to pay attention to every little detail due to it's very scarce dialogue. It's great to hear the perspective of the creators who built the puzzle. Hopefully the conversation will get more eyes on this unique movie.

Does it live up to the hype? Will it save the industry. Ralph and John discuss their thoughts. Or has it already happened? Is their discussion as confusing as the movie itself? Or like most Nolan films, visually stunning and hard to follow? Only time will tell.
Tonight's episode takes YKYMP in a new direction. Still talking films but now it's a cage match. Three members of the gang choose a movie based on a randomly selected category. They each make a case for their film then the jury decides which one we all watch. Now the discussion begins. The winner defends their crown against two new challengers. Fun, informative and with any luck...bloodthirsty. Let us know what you think below.
On tonight's episode of Q it Up...payback's a bitch. We bring in two special guests Drew and his wife Kelly. The premise? A month ago John challenged both of them to watch "It's a Wonderful Life" for Christmas, since neither of them had seen it. The cost of viewing a feel good movie? John had to watch Netflix's "The Perfection". Knowing Drew, it was not a movie John would seek out, so he agreed to watch it AFTER Christmas. Part of the deal was that John had to record a video of his reactions to the movie. A hint that he was in for something...interesting. Here is the discussion around that film.
Tonight on Q it Up, a change of pace episode. Ralph and John discuss the newly released Wonder Woman 1984. Does it live up to the first one or go the way of Superman 3? Watch and listen to what the brothers think cause you know...they're brothers.

This episode of Q it Up is one in which the Q Brothers look at films we remembered as kids, films that may have left a mark or films we loved, and discuss them through our adult(Old) eyes. Do our opinions change or are we able to come to a better understanding of what the film really meant? Not sure because this was Ralph's idea. Should be interesting.
Tonight we discuss the unanimous winner of last week's Holiday Roulette, John's pick of the 1951 version of A Christmas Carol. This classic version was originally called Scrooge upon its initial release. John makes the case that out of all the versions, some good some bad, this is the gold standard. Starring Alastair Sim who creates a nuanced and believable Scrooge which is the heart of this film. Does the gang agree or do they think it's a hum bug? Watch/Listen and find out and in the words of Tiny Tim..."God bless us...everyone".
It's time to Q it Up for the holidays. After doing the Holiday roulette on the YKY podcast, Ralph and John decided to take a longer and more in depth look at the Christmas/Holiday movie genre. Tonight the brothers look back at past family Thanksgivings and the Covid Thanksgiving we all just experienced. I'm sure this one will be a laugh riot. Looking forward to a Covid Christmas. Listen and let us know your thoughts. Enjoy.
Take a good look at your "normal" neighbors across the street. Are they really who they seem to be? That's the question that's asked in this week's film, 1999's Arlington Road. It stars Jeff Bridges and Tim Robbins in a taut thriller that has twists that will keep you guessing till the end. If you like your characters out of control, and in the case of Joan Cusak, super creepy, really super creepy, this is the movie for you. Let's see what the gang thinks.
Tonight the gang discusses Debbie's pick, the classic Bride of Frankenstein. This was another entry in the Universal Monster Series that started with Dracula and Frankenstein. This 1935 film is considered one of the greatest sequels ever filmed with stand out performances by Boris Karloff, Elsa Lanchaster and scenery chewing performance by Ernest Thesiger Dr. Pretorious. When it's over you'll be screaming..."She's alive, alive!!"
Tonight the Q Brothers discuss the uniquely American form of cinema the Western. As you can imagine John goes for the classics while Ralph's choices are contemporary versions of the classic genre. Either choices you can't go wrong with this genre. So in the immortal words of Joey Starrett "Shane...don't go!
What do you think of when you hear murder orb and the tall man? If you know the references then you know tonight's movie is the 1979 horror classic, and I use the term classic loosely, Phantasm. A strange movie that screams out late 70's. We even have a guest who loves this movie so much he's ready to defend it with every fiber of his being. Is it a thoughtful movie that deals with how different people handle death? Is it a well made scarefest, like Halloween and Aliens, that will have you turning the lights on? Is it a movie...that sucks! Watch or listen to find out, oh and...duck!
Tonight on Q it up, it's all about movie genres. If we've learned anything, it's that the Q brothers have polar opposite tastes in movies. We each pick a genre, explain why we love it, and recommend movies to watch that represent the genre. Everyone will know mine but you might be surprised by Ralph's. I know I was. Enjoy and let us know what you think.
Never give up, never surrender." With those words the gang discusses 1999's love letter to the original Star Trek series, Galaxy Quest. The movie stars Tim Allen, Sigouney Weaver, Alan Rickman and a hilarious Sam Rockwell. What could have been something that mocked Star Trek and it's fans is actually is a funny, smart and at certain points an emotional film. Excellent special effects by ILM and creature makeup by Stan Winston. Whether you are a fan of the genre or not I think you'll enjoy this film. What does the gang think? Listen and find out.
Tonight the gang is full of soul as they discuss 1991's The Commitments. Alan Parker's rockin film tells the story of the rise and fall of the hardest working band in Dublin. A cast of unknowns, who are all musicians, Dublin locations and a great soundtrack, make for an enjoyable film. Watch and listen...there may even be some singing. So get ready to tap your feet.

Enjoy and get ready to be frightened...Happy Halloween.
fter last week's horror buffet tonight's episode, voted on by the gang, is the perfect choice keeping with the spirit of Halloween. It's Drew's pick of 2005's The Descent. This scarefest was directed by Neil Marshall, starts strong and never lets up. If you like your horror dark, tense, relentless and surprising...you will love this one. One thing to watch for...no real caves were used in the production of this film, oh and "crawlers". BOO!

The lights are low and the air is filled with ghosts and ghouls on our Halloween themed show.. Tonight the gang each has a scary recommendation of an "off the beaten path" scary movie. Scary but not as well known as some of the terror classics like Halloween and Psycho. Which one will they choose for next week's show? Have you seen any of these? Will you watch based on our recommendation? Who knows...and that's the scary part.
Do you have a "bucket list"? Tonight the Q boys discuss their own bucket lists. What have they crossed off and what's left on their lists. It's a relevant topic in the age of Covid and the realization that life, in the scheme of things, is incredibly short. Take a listen and think about your own list...or making one for the first time.
Tonight's episode is a change of pace from the last two. The upbeat and quirky Be Kind Rewind. This 2008 comedy stars Jack Black, Mos Def and Danny Glover. Some of the words used to describe the fim by the gang; whimsical, charming, joyous and I don't get it. Interesting reactions to this one. Take a listen and be kind...hit the like button and share. (See what I did?)

Tonight's show features what is considered the greatest American Movie musical of all time, 1952's Singing in the Rain. Starring Gene Kelly, Donald O'Connor, Debbie Rerynolds and Jean Hagen it is a feel good joyous movie that features great music, dancing and a great comedic story. It was John's pick so he invited his 27 year old niece, who is a huge fan of the movie, to offer a millennials perspective. Considering several of the gang had never seen it, should be interesting discussion. Now...GOTTA DANCE!!
Well, we enjoyed the first one so much we decided to do it again. Episode 2 of "Cue it up with the Q brothers''. Last week was about the start of the YippeeKiYay Mother podcast. After a week layoff the gang is ready to get back into the groove. We discuss Brad's pick, 1984's classic "mocumentry" This is Spinal Tap. Directed by Rob Reiner and starring Michael McKean, Christopher Guest and Harry Shearer, who with Reiner wrote the "script". A completely improvised rockumentry about the loudest english metal band touring the US. It may not be the first, but it set the standard for future fake documentaries. Great music, great cameos and great movie quotes. This one went to Eleven!
Well tonight something completely different. After a last minute cancellation of the Spinal Tap podcast, Ralph and John decided to do one anyway. It's not like our schedules are full. The show must go on so join John and Ralph for a special edition called..."Cue it up with the Q brothers" a conversation between two brothers. It includes a little personal background info, how the podcast got started, man crushes, lady crushes and a whole lot of movie talk. Enjoy and feedback is always welcome. Stay tuned next week for This is Spinal Tap. (Fingers crossed)
Tonight the gang discusses the 1996 Indie film Spitfire Grill. Debbie picked tonight's movie and works hard to explain why she chose it. A movie that's part Northern Exposure and a typical film you may find on Lifetime or Hallmark channel, goes a long way to explaining the group's reaction and hostility towards the film...including from Debbie. The best part is the discussion on what would have made it better. Enjoy the banter...and the fake Maine accents.
Tonight the gang takes a look at the coming of age drama, 2012's Mud directed by Jeff Nichols and starring Mathew McConaughey, Tye Sheridan, Reese Witherspoon and Sam Shepard. Drew's pick is a tough one to explain, part Stand by Me and part Sling Blade. Beautifully shot at locations in Arkansas seldom seen in movies. Great character piece and surprise, surprise, McConaughey does remove his shirt...his lucky shirt. Also at the end another cult classic recommendation by Al.

The gang also gets a chance to discuss Lou's career. Sit back and enjoy and try not to ask about La Bamba.

Is it really that good or just an excuse for John to wear his Indy costume? Listen and find out.
"My name's Max"...with those words the gang discusses the post-apocalyptic remake, reboot, redo, Mad Max Fury Road. How does it stack against the Mel Gibson classics? It's a good start with George Miller directing and starring Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron. You know with Miller directing it will be a practical stunt extravaganza. What you see is what you get. So let's see what we get.
In today's episode the gang goes indie with 2006's Little Miss Sunshine. A stellar cast that includes an amazing performance by 10 year Abigail Breslin and an Academy Award winning performance by Alan Arkin. It has everything. Road trip, dead bodies in the trunk, dysfunction and of course beauty pageants. Will it be crowned a winner? Listen and find out.
Why does everyone hate the 2013 film, the Counselor. That is the question Ralph asks the group, and the group lets him have it. BTW, Ralph loves the film and does his best to defend it. It did not go well for him.
There's a million stories in the City of Angels and tonight the gang discusses one of them. Tonight's fim is 1997's L.A. Confidential. This film noir classic was directed by Curtis Hanson and includes powerhouse performances by Russell Crowe, Guy Pierce, Keving Spacey and in her Oscar winning performance Kim Basinger. Was it tough to watch in today's current environment? Was the gang able to watch Kevin Spacey's performance without thinking about....? Does Ralph have any idea what the word "precient" means? These questions and more will be answered in tonight's episode: "The case for justice".
Look up in the sky, it's a bird, it's a plane, no it's Superman The Movie. Although small in number the gang takes a look at 1978's Superman The Movie. How does it compare to the comic book CGI blockbusters of the last 20 years? Ralph, Sean and John discuss all these questions and more. Up, Up and Away!!
Bond...James Bond. With those words the gang tackles Sean's pick, the classic Bond film, 1964's Goldfinger. Gadgets, girls, a great villain, classic henchmen and Sean Connery. Does it hold up and how does it compare to the contemporary versions with Daniel Craig? Will Ralph put aside his wokeness and embrace the 1960's vibe? We also get a female perspective when Sean's wife Debbie joins the group. "Do you expect me to talk?" "No Mr. Bond, I expect you to die." Classic!
The lock downs continue but the movie reviews go on. In today's episode the gang discusses Wojo's pick...1994's The Hudsucker Proxy. Join us and find out and you know..."for kids"...or is it?
Fighting through the pandemic in isolation doesn't stop the gang as they continue their conversations around movies. Today's film is 1951's Sci-Fi classic...The Thing From Another World. This is not the gore fest of 1982, the John Carpenter version, but it is a tense, character driven, pre-curser to Aliens, that even includes a "walking carrot". With no millennial's on the panel it will be interesting to get the more "experienced" opinions from the group. Can John justify it's designation as a "classic"? Will Ralph explain the nuances of acting in the 1950's? Will Sean and Debbie highlight the meaning of a coffee pot? Will WoJo embrace the fine ensemble that brought this thriller to life.? Watch, Listen and learn.
The gang slams on the gas and burns some zoom rubber as they travel back to 1977 to witness the Bandit and Snowman's epic Coor's beer run in the blockbuster "Smokey and the Bandit". After a long hiatus, the group comes back with a new Pandemic Edition of the podcast. The first movie discused is the 1988 film Miracle Mile. It is described as a “pre-appocolyptic love story” starring Anthony Edwards and Mare Winningham, as well as many character actors that you will probably recongnize. We were lucky enough to be joined by Billy DaMota, who is a casting director. Miracle Mile was the first film he cast. He has since been the casting director for over 200 films.
