This previous year 2021 has been a year of introspection, new learning, and baring of people, agendas, and plans.
At this newsletter, we moved from a daily newsletter to a weekly one as we tried to continue to bring the same quality along with a consistency that was sustainable.
Over the past months, it has been a very rewarding experience. We would like to continue this further but it cannot survive if it is not sustainable on its own.
So, we will move to a more sustainable paid model, which will be very reasonable, where we can handle the new platform as well as create better and more useful content for the audience.
The current platform, although great, does not lend itself to paid subscriptions for Indian subscribers.
The process of moving it to a more integrated platform, where our blog on Drishtikone.com and the newsletter content are combined in a useful way is going on.
We will obviously increase the content that is shared and make it multi-dimensional. The details will be shared in the coming days.
It is my sincere request and wish that we grow as a family and enhance the collective consciousness.
To the new awakening in 2022
In 63 BC the legendary orator, Marcus Tullius Cicero, gave a set of speeches that have come to be known as the Catiline or Catilinarian Orations. Cicero was speaking against Lucius Sergius Catilina (Catiline) as he led a plot to overthrow the Roman Senate. Catiline was an unethical Roman senator known to bribe others in the Senate to get his way through. He hatched a conspiracy to murder Cicero when the orator had worked to bring a law that would prohibit election fraud. After a series of lost elections and conspiracies, a meeting of the Senate was called in the Temple of Jupiter Stator. Catiline and Cicero were also to attend. (Source)
That is where Cicero delivered his most famous oration which was about 3,400 words long. The opening of his address has survived for over 2000 years.
Quo usque tandem abutere, Catilina, patientia nostra? Quam diu etiam furor iste tuus nos eludet? Quem ad finem sese effrenata iactabit audacia?
When, O Catiline, do you mean to cease abusing our patience? How long is that madness of yours still to mock us? When is there to be an end of that unbridled audacity of yours, swaggering about as it does now?
From the riot at the Capitol to the attacks by Khalistan-backers in Delhi, 2021 will be the year when Democracy almost lost its meaning. Different standards, different definitions, and different moral benchmarks. 2021 was also the year of the awakening of many to the inbuilt, obvious, and patent injustice in the garb of justice.
Experiences should awaken us. Not dumb us down.
The future can become better if we learn how our Today was sabotaged by the lovers of crimes that defined the Past.
For, the future cannot be a slave to the fetishes of today or the past. It has to be free and liberated to hold any meaning. Any promise.
A future free from the baggage of crime, slavery, subjugation, and poverty. That can be the only gift we pass on.
Let us work toward a day when the global consciousness moves from Untruth to Truth by perceiving things the way they are. By confronting reality in all its dimensions. Not just the ones showcased.
Wake up. Push forward. Awaken. Spread that awakening.
To an awakened consciousness may the new year 2022 lead us all.

When the Rishis declared “अहम् ब्रह्मास्मि” (Aham Brahmasmi) meaning “I am Brahman” where Brahman is the Universal Consciousness; it was an announcement that they had no identification left. For identification with anything - your nation, your gender, your family, your ideology, and in the end, your body - restricts you. It makes you work for that identity at the expense of everything else.
Those Rishis and Yogis were liberated of all identities and cycles of life. They were completely free.
The rest of us, however, are with identities. Identities that socially and psychologically, even civilizationally, define us.
When someone entraps our identities, they enslave us. What we are. What we identify with. What is important to us. And, what makes us, us!
The large tech companies with centralized platforms and data stacks of us, our families, our actions, our biologies, physiologies, finances, and all the rest of it have and are doing exactly that.
Entrapping our identities to enslave us and our communities.
You may roam around, as if free. Travel, party, love, cry, win, lose, play, and read as if all is normal. But you are on a leash. Someone knows what you do. Who you are. What you want and where you will go next. If you don’t, they will send whatever is at their disposal - bots, invites, algorithms, nudges, and data pokes - to make you do what they want. You may not know it. But that is what happens.
Your identity gone. Your data points surrendered. Your future fixed. Your beliefs and ideologies gamed and restricted. You are just a little robot with the delusion of freedom.

The New Year on January 1st is the Gregorian new year. The Indian New Year celebrations align with the natural time cycles and seasons. Shri Ram Dhari Singh Dinkar wrote a thought-provoking poem on this topic called - ये नव वर्ष हमे स्वीकार नहीं.

ये नव वर्ष हमे स्वीकार नहीं
है अपना ये त्यौहार नहीं
है अपनी ये तो रीत नहीं
है अपना ये व्यवहार नहीं
धरा ठिठुरती है सर्दी से
आकाश में कोहरा गहरा है
बाग़ बाज़ारों की सरहद पर
सर्द हवा का पहरा है
सूना है प्रकृति का आँगन
कुछ रंग नहीं , उमंग नहीं
हर कोई है घर में दुबका हुआ
नव वर्ष का ये कोई ढंग नहीं
चंद मास अभी इंतज़ार करो

2020 has been a year where we all lived our lives differently and learned that life is about living and not mere accomplishments.
2020 showed us the value of each moment. Each moment carried both life and death with it. Survival and end waited at every corner of every moment.
Life, we learned, is just a continuous flow of those moments. Of survival, celebrations, deaths, and heart-aches. It all seemed very pronounced, didn’t it?
So, does creating artificial breaks make any difference?
Birthdays, New Year’s day, or some regional new year. The Galaxy doesn’t know. The Universe doesn’t care. Animals cant distinguish between one year and the other.
Unless our very way of life is altered. Unless our very core takes on new vitality. Unless we can channelize ourselves in a new direction, such “time breaks” actually mean nothing.
We could make the change on any day. If we have to be a better person, we can do that the day we have the realization of the need for change? Yet most of us wait for the year ends to unravel the “new us”. The first few weeks have the enthusiasm of new beginnings. And then it is all back to the same routine.
Why not live every moment as if it was a New Years' day. We may, then, try to re-energize ourselves in every breath. If one sees, every moment is the beginning of a new year. The dates may not cleanly line up. But if the change is to happen within, how is that important? Let that be the greatest lesson in the most significant year in recent history.
Let us energize and commit ourselves to transform ourselves every moment. Let us celebrate a New Year’s day every moment for the rest of our lives!

For those who may have missed our last issue, here is a podcast of the main introduction of that issue, that discusses how those who try to conquer a society or a civilization use obnoxiousness as a weapon along with violence. There is a need to counter it for preserving what is worth passing on to our next generation.
When the first Christian century - the 5th century AD - began, the Church, which had hitherto played the role of insurgency was now bringing its agenda center stage. A society which would ‘render unto Caesar what was Caesar’s and to God what was Gods’, was now challenged. As Catherine Nixey writes in her seminal book “The Darkening Age,” Augustine asked people to revolt against the Roman law if it violated that of God - “to dissent and to become obnoxious to those who think differently,” was his call.
It wasn’t just enough to dissent. But to be obnoxious to those who think differently.
A revolt that is structured to take over a society cannot be complete unless it makes being obnoxious and abusive a legitimate expression against the incumbent social norms, beliefs, and customs.
When CPI(M) members hacked Pranab and Malay Kumar Sain in 1970 and forced their mother to eat rice smeared in her sons’ blood, the Communists were legitimizing hatred, abuse, and obnoxious ways against those who did not agree with them.
Yet, the state of Bengal tolerated these cadres and handed them the reigns of the state to lead it to its ruin.
For any civil society, and more so a civilization to survive and thrive, it is as critical to have intellectual guards as armed forces for security. For, Communism and Naxalism which was funded by India’s enemies should have been defeated at the very cradle of its birth through a strong and powerful intellectual challenge. Obnoxiousness should have been met by an equally potent force of intellectual dismission and physical challenge on the streets, where the whole play of murder was being unleashed.
That slumber. That self-loathing, self-delusional, and masochistic cynicism has become our national character now. The fight is now within if something useful has to be passed on to the coming generations.

For those who may have missed our last issue, here is a podcast of the main introduction of that issue, that discusses how judging someone else’s decisions, specifically in the past is not a great idea. Worse when those who either have no skin in the game (like the New York Times) or worse are responsible for spreading the virus - do the judging, then we as a society are worse off.
Sutor, ne ultra crepidam ("Shoemaker, not beyond the shoe"): people should avoid passing judgment beyond their expertise.
When one has to approach any exalted being within the Dharmic framework, we do that via Upasana. That is Upa (upon/similar) + Asana (position). In other words - being in the position of.
If you were to be in the process of Upasana of Krishna, for example, the aim was to raise your consciousness so we reach the position of Krishna’s consciousness. Unless I was Krishna himself, how could I ever understand the import of what he said or did?
But sometimes even that is not enough. We often wonder sometimes why we did something we did in the past. Why did we indeed?
Every moment and every situation brings its set of factors impacting our decisions. Along with them, there are certain uncertainties that we have to deal with. And, decision-making time is not unlimited. Within that time, we have to make the decision given the factors that we have at hand and the uncertainties facing us.
As complex as it seems, this is the simplest scenario.
For, we could be in a group with many people who are willing to place hurdles in our way at every step. No matter what we do.
Even when it goes against their professed stand in public or the good of many. The greed for profit they may make by destroying everything around them may propel them to do anything. Even the most egregious things.
When India was faced with the COVID pandemic, India was the only country in the world where sitting governments in Delhi and Mumbai orchestrated a mass exodus of workers who had come to those cities from other parts of the country. Specific instructions, threats, and misinformation was circulated. No arrangements were made for proper streamlining. All the benefits of a lockdown were thrown away.
India was the only country where administrators and other forces, supposedly responsible, worked to create a mass spread of the virus.
When faced with such extreme uncertainty that had no precedence in the world along with power-hungry unconscionable public forces, those decisions had many, many variables. The decisions made at those times with the factors and information at hand are very hard to judge now. Yet those who cannot even tell their arse from the elbow, love to write tomes on how it was done wrong.
To give someone the power to spread anarchy, chaos and misery is bad enough. That they then get to judge those who mitigate their evil is what denigrates us as a society!

For those who may have missed our last issue, here is a podcast of the main introduction of that issue, that discusses how spent a lifetime to establish people into actual spiritual sadhana and work, as opposed to memorizing scriptures. But his legacy has been reduced to the exact opposite - a book being the Guru. Some thoughts.
In an era of no flights, buses, or trains, a committed and intense young man left his wife and two sons in the village and traveled on foot or ponies to Mecca, Gujarat, Tashkent, Nepal, Assam, and Sri Lanka. His work - to wake people up. Fashioning god into a belief system and just memorizing books would not get one to full awareness. Sadhana, actual spiritual work in guidance of a Guru would. That was his life’s commitment.
No book on the planet could take one through the rigors of spiritual work. Doesn’t matter who wrote it and how deeply profound it is. For, every book is restricted by the curse of interpretation of the reader. It is as profound or useless as the reader is. If you are an unaware life, the book with the greatest exposition of truth will be rendered trite.
Nanak, the profound, intense, committed being that he was, left a spiritual legacy. A path that worked within the context of those times.
When spiritual legacies come down as a tradition and hearsay, as opposed to initiation by a Master, they become weapons of identity enforcement. Those who swore by Nanak also started swearing by a book being the Guru. Whatever Nanak had worked for was negated. The minds who twisted Nanak’s legacy to trash his spiritual work, have worked hard to join hands with anyone to establish an identity that no Guru ever shared. That has meant killings, bombings, murders, crimes, and lies.
But that is the lure of identity. It can cook up extremely pedestrian treatise and arguments to twist the most profound works at the cost of human life and well-being.

For those who may have missed our last issue, here is a podcast of the main introduction that discusses the essence of real liberalism. Not what has become a shackling ideology.
Liberation is the greatest aspiration of all beings. Done with the shackles of monarchy and the church, the West looked at this conundrum in an ideological way. A competitive ideology counter to what shut human enterprise and reason.
Western Liberalism was therefore a reaction to an unseen and vengeful god and despotic kings who usurped the power of the former to establish their own realm. It was an ideology nonetheless.
The Eastern spiritual traditions powered by Dharmic ways looked at the endeavor of liberation in a completely different way. Everything was a shackle. Social, physical, mental, psychological entanglements. If freedom had to be aspired for, then nothing less than liberation at the existential level was to be aspired for.
When Liberalism is an ideology, it is the most brutal shackle. There is no liberty in being shackled every moment to an edict pronounced by someone several centuries ago. Whether the well-meaning though contextually arbitrary commandments come from Moses, Descartes or Marx - you are enslaved to another’s prejudices and biases.
Existential liberation happens in every moment. Every moment is a test and an opportunity to break free from all past and its influences. Ours. Our forefathers. Commandment-spewing megalomaniacs. Everyone.
The ideological cannot live their own ideals. Those who repeat ad-nauseum “Thou shalt not kill” have wiped out entire native populations of at least three continents in the name of their god. Life doesn’t happen in commandments. It happens in every moment.
That is the essence of real liberalism.

You don’t have to kill an obscene number of animals in the most horrendous ways to be an inhuman slaughterer of other beings. You can simply buy their corpses off the grocery shelves and feel great about your humanity that facilitates such mindless slaughter.
That is the deception of outsourcing your crime by providing the ecosystem that enables violence, killing, genocides while you sign the certificates “No Crime Committed.”
Bodies of the hunted journalists come floating by. The persecuted end up on the shores cut up. Just as they feared they would be.
For, even in their refuge in your home, they could see how the demons had enmeshed themselves in your milieu.
You knew. They knew. The, now butchered, also knew.
But the denials, the facade, the silence in the face of the most horrible crimes have become the way to outsource the crimes and the guilt that comes with them.
Those who have had no sophistry of state-craft or the guile of the genocidal butchers have often, like the innocent and naive cows and sheep in the slaughterhouse walked along with their killers believing in a humane vein of normal existence that wasn’t.
Like, the butchers at the slaughterhouse, these killers were not killing because they were hungry. But because it was a sport. Or worse, an order from another to establish control over their lands.
They were paying for the unending greed of the multitudes of faceless demons. Demons who feel good in their sainthood, for the slaughter had been outsourced.

Those who purport to “do good” are the ones who have created the greatest havoc in the world. Once they have anointed themselves as the keepers of our conscience, on the back of the power of media and sociopathic brute force of the state, they can then kill anyone with complete impudence. No questions asked. And, this turd comes wrapped in the choicest of muslins of liberalism.
Growing up in the 1980s and 90s, with terrorism in India at its peak and the most brutal, one was struck with the contradictions that the world presented. It was obvious that these terrorists who were pulling people out from buses and trains and butchering them in the name of religion were vile and violent animals. Yet they would readily find refuge in the United Kingdom, the United States, and Canada. Actually, they would get asylum. Those who were espousing ideologies to kill others as a matter of their right were being sheltered in these countries. All in the name of - Freedom and Justice.
You knew that these moral ideals had no meaning in the real world. In fact, I realized very early in life that anyone who as much as uttered these words were to be suspected of the most egregious crimes. To date, none of those do-gooder scoundrels have disappointed me.
What is astonishing is that these Western scoundrels continue with their support of violence and terror as if it is a gift to mankind. Only because it hurts and kills someone in another, often poor country. White imperialism is not dead. It just got a liberal makeover.

It was August of 1947, when Dina nath took his family and ran to save his life. And when he stopped at his friend's place, despite his assurances, he had to take permission to get his own glass from his wife. That "permission" given to a dead body of a Hindu man in Shaheen Bagh brought back those memories of my Grandpa and Mom's experience.

What is happening in India right now is a normalization of Islamic-leftist Supremacism. Everything by anyone on that bandwagon is justified and everything that anyone else - whom they do not approve - does is unjustified and a threat to society. I am wondering in this poem at where do those who say they are close really stand? Such is the brain-washing by this dubious ideological virus.

When tales of human suffering are told, they need to be done within a certain sphere of grace, humility and reverence. The teller of the tale, the writer and the portrayal cannot be larger than the suffering.
If the primacy and the centrality of suffering is compromised even some, it becomes a mockery. Worse than the original crime. Now listen.

So many myths and so many heroes have been constructed. One such was Gandhi and the story that India achieved independence because of his work. The reality was FAR from it. The real story was something totally different. And, one of the villains of that story, actually happens to be Gandhi himself.
Let us go sneak back into that time from 1946 onwards and see what and who pushed the British out of India?
