Today's guest is Kyle Earman, also known as Boomrazzle.  He is a full-time Twitch Streamer and online content creator.  Previously, he had been in medical sales and built up a solid client base but a relocation allowed him the opportunity to switch paths.  In both instances he has built strong networks and followings which is why I wanted to have him on.  We go over the differences and challenges of building a network in-person v. online, dealing with imposter syndrome, being your authentic self, and so much more.  I had a great time with this conversation and hope you enjoy it half as much as I did.

Today I discuss my thoughts on training variety.  Are there issues with too little variety? (hint: yes)  What about too much variety, is that a thing? (hint: yes)

I talk about the issues that may arise with both those scenarios and how I utilize variety in my client's and my own training to keep progress, enjoyment, and strength coming in training!

The internet and social media is awesome!  It's a great way to build a presence, learn about a ton of new topics, and to stay in contact with people from across the globe.  It also, unfortunately, can be a source of misinformation about everything from health to fitness to finance and everything in-between.  Today, I talk about the prevalence of that misinformation from people with huge followings and why I believe that to be irresponsible and, potentially, dangerous.

In today's episode I give you my takes on diets, how they work, why they are often times unsuccessful, and a way that I've seen to be better for most people for building long-term healthy habits.

Diets can be, and are, very polarizing.  I am NOT saying all diets are bad, I'm not saying diets are good.  I'm just giving my thoughts, opinions, and ideas based on 7+ years of training experience during which the topic of diet comes up on a regular basis.

In today's episode we are diving into the links between physical and mental health.  It has become obvious to many people over the past 6 or so months that there is a connection between being active and feeling "like themselves".  So, I go into some of the mechanisms that link improved mental health with physical health.

Topics discussed:

Stress Reduction

Endorphin Release

Sleep

Interpersonal connections

Like I mention at the end of the episode, I am always available to talk to anyone who needs it.  These are weird and tough times but having someone in your corner definitely helps.

In today's episode I go over my thoughts on why you should hire a trainer.  In today's society there is a ton of information readily available about everything, including training, so why pay someone to tell you what to do?  Why not just look at Instagram's discover page?  Why would a trainer need a trainer?  I go over all this in today's episode while hiding my disdain for uninformed IG fitness influencers(until I wrote this...oh well).  I hope you all enjoy!

Today's guest is Matt Hyde. I began working with Matt when he was an intern at Get Fast. He quickly left a great impression, was hired on and was a phenomenal presence on the team, and brought the level of the gym to new heights.

Matt is currently the Assistant Strength and Conditioning coach at Trinity College in Connecticut. Before he took on this role he was at Rutgers University where he was an intern during the 2018-2019 school year. At Rutgers, Hyde assisted with men's and women's basketball, men's and women's track and field, softball, field hockey, gymnastics, baseball, and the men's golf team. He also ran the strength and conditioning program for the Rutgers dance team.

Prior to Rutgers, Hyde earned his master's degree in athletic leadership at Castleton University in Vermont while serving as an assistant strength and conditioning coach. Hyde worked directly with the field hockey, men's and women's lacrosse, wrestling, and assisted with football while with the Spartans. He also ran the internship program and was involved in hiring and facilitating the intern education program. Hyde served as an intern strength and conditioning coach for football at Colorado State University during the 2015-2016 school year and for the University at Buffalo during the summer of 2017.

A native of Oswego, Illinois, Hyde earned his bachelor's degree in kiniesology from Iowa State University with an emphasis in health and fitness management and minors in speech communication and health promotion. He is a National Strength Coaches Association (NSCA) Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), and a USA Weightlifting (USAW) Sports Performance Coach (USAW). Hyde is also certified in Functional Movement Systems (FMS).

In today's episode I dive into, arguably, the hottest topic in fitness right now: Is it safe to train in a mask. I pull from my experience, my client's experience, and some breath-work experts to hopefully put your mind at ease about this daunting task. I also go into some of my "necessities" for a "hold-me-over" home gym in case you aren't ready to go back to your usual spot just yet.

"Nothing will ever be given to you, in anything.  But if you work for it, it will come" -Johnny Duarte

In today's episode I welcome my first guest, Johnny Duarte.  We have been training together since 2016 and have developed a great friendship during that time.  He speaks on where his work ethic stems from, his journey from college to the pros (and his experience while there), to trying to help and grow the next generation of athletes as a coach.

We make risk vs. reward decisions everyday, whether we know it or not.  But, it's not often that we have other people make those decisions for us.  THAT is what a trainer does.  In today's episode we go over the trainer and client's mindset when evaluating situations in training sessions to make the best, most informed, decision to progress towards goals.

In today's episode I go over some of my favorite ways to progress training without increasing weights.  A lot of people feel the only way to show they're getting stronger is by pushing heavier and heavier weights.  And while I'm a fan of lifting heavy it's not the only way to go; especially in this time of history with no access to gyms and limited access to weights.

Topics covered include (in order):

Eccentric reps

Isometric reps

Speed/Rate of Force reps

Density Training

EMOM/HIIT

Changing/Decreasing Base of Support

Video Mentioned:

30 second eccentric squat (actually 1 minute...oops): https://www.instagram.com/tv/B0lG0HygxvR/
