The problem with pride is that you can easily see it IN OTHER PEOPLE… but it’s almost impossible to see it IN THE MIRROR.

The Bible is a book (or more accurately, a library) unlike any other. At times it is best read slowly and out loud, savoring each word. At other times, we ought to read it in large portions, so as to encounter it’s broader story and plot line. In some moments, we need to linger on one simple phrase, allowing it to slowly seep into our heart. And at other times, we need to sit upright, put on our reading glasses, and study it.
For this week’s spiritual practice, our goal is to engage the Bible with our minds by learning to study the Bible.
But why bother studying the Bible? For followers of Jesus, the answer is simple: Jesus was a student and teacher of the Bible and lived as if the Bible was authoritative. And if that is true, and the Bible is indeed authoritative for us today, then we ought to think carefully about the text and what it means; in other words, we need to study it. Because while the Bible is many things, it is certainly not simple. This means that there is not one clear-cut formula for studying the Bible. Instead, there are a number of approaches to studying and peeling back the multi-layered meanings of the Bible over a lifetime.

To be the parents, spouses, people that God wants us to be, we need to drop the masks. Jesus can't minister to our masks. Jesus can't save your selfie.
Prayer is the only response to God when our human hearts are convinced that God’s presence creates super natural power to help us live out His divine purposes.
God always meets us WHERE WE ARE and slowly moves us along into DEEPER THINGS. God is not irritated by our persistent, consistent prayer! God is honored by our persistent, consistent prayer!

But this is something that is so critical to understand, and if we get this, this could change how we experience connection with both God and humanity!

Jesus is WAY more concerned about your salvation than your status! You are NOT the Label!
THE DEVIL IS A LIAR! He will whisper that you need to give up, to quit, that you have no worth or value, that you are ugly and no one loves you. So how do we combat those lies? Pastor Erik dives into Romans 8 as we learn that our sins are forgiven and so we can know that our eternity is secure! That we can set our minds on the Spirit and be filled with the peace of God. We can know we are significant and valued because our God is for us! And we can trust that NOTHING can separate us from the love of God!
The fastest way to kill something special is to COMPARE it to something else. Comparing does two things: it either makes you feel SUPERIOR or INFERIOR. Neither honors God!
Temple thinking always gravitates to RULES and RITUALS. The Jesus model is centered on the YOU beside YOU. Once you place your faith in Jesus Christ, you are fine with God and God is fine with you!
Movement brings life and it is DOING that makes the DIFFERENCE in your experience with your heavenly father!

Sometimes we miss God’s PROVISION because it’s disguised as a PROBLEM. We keep sending back the package God is giving us, because we don’t like how it looks! PROVISION and PERSPECTIVE are linked! We might need to change our thinking, which will change our PERSPECTIVE, to see that God’s PROVISION is already in front of me!

The Church isn’t a cruise ship; the church is a battleship! You see- on a battleship, everyone on that ship knows why they are there and they all have a role to play. They have a MISSION. Jesus too, gave the Church a mission: to go into hostile territory, to rescue the captives, and to push back the enemy. Pastor Erik shares why at Mosaic we want to help everyone SERVE OTHERS.
As we study the life of Esther, it is apparent the she had the Favor of God on her life. But that's not to say that she had an easy life! Far from it! Pastor Erik dives into Esther chapter 8 so we can learn from Esther and her adopted father Mordecai on how to become good leaders and stewards of the blessings and favor of God.
The story of Esther is amazing, but imagine this: imagine the moment where King Ahasuerus looked at Haman and said, “Take this man and crucify him now!” Imagine if in that moment, Esther walked over to Haman and said, “I forgive you and I love you, and King, I will take his place and I’ll be crucified for my enemy, so that he can become one of God’s people.” That would have been amazing...but that’s what Jesus did for us!
It is unlikely that any of us will ever be in a situation as dire as Esther, but every one of us faces Defining Moments in our own lives! Some defining moments come unexpectedly and pass quickly, yet with far-reaching consequences. Pastor Erik dives into the third and fourth chapter of the Book of Esther as we learn how to miss what God wants to teach us when we face Defining Moments in our own lives.
Pastor Erik continued our series "Esther: God's Perfect Work through Imperfect People." We looked at Esther 2 and learned that like Esther who was adopted by Mordecai, those who follow Jesus are adopted into God's family. Although Mordecai was an imperfect father and failed Esther, our Heavenly Father will never let us down or fail us!
On Easter Sunday we wrapped up our journey through the Gospel of Luke as we learned that although each of us is prone to DRIFT, Jesus DISRUPTS and enters into our story so that we can receive new life through him!
On Good Friday, Pastor Erik dove into Luke 23 as we learned that the reason Jesus came was to SEEK and SAVE the lost. Like any good movie, there's MORE TO THE STORY as we explored the story of the cross.
Jesus tells Peter, "Satan demanded to have you, that he might sift you like wheat, but I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned again, strengthen your brothers.” God allows each of us to be sifted, but that PREPARES us for our PURPOSE. And Jesus lets us know he is praying for us and will never let us go even while we go through seasons of sifting.
COMFORT never leads to the CROSS. But the cross was Christ's CALLING! You and I have to forsake comfort to step into our calling! Jesus came to CHALLENGE us and to lead us out of comfort so that we could be conformed into the likeness of Christ!
Brian Stevens reminds us that the triumphal entry by Jesus on Palm Sunday was not a fun little parade. It was an epic proclamation by Jesus! Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem COMMITTED him to the cross. Jesus calls each one of us to COMMIT to the Kingdom of God! (Luke 19)

But we chafed under the authority of our Father. We wanted to live without God’s interference, so we turned away and became alienated from him. We lost our home and the result is exile. The message of the Bible is that the human race is a band of exiles trying to come home. The Parable of the Prodigal Son is about every one of us.

The parable of the Good Samaritan is one of the most well known stories in the Bible. Almost everyone has heard the phrase “Good Samaritan.” You’ll hear on the news how someone did a good deed and they will call him a “Good Samaritan.” The parable of the Good Samaritan has so penetrated our culture that I think we have lost sight of what it originally meant to the first century listeners of Jesus.
Reach out to Jesus in faith, as the woman in Luke 8 did, so that the power of God might be unleashed in your life. Follow the example of Jairus: run to Jesus, cast yourself upon him, and invite him into your home and your life. Respond with faith, not fear! If our faith is in Jesus, then one day we will resurrect from death and sin and suffering and sickness will be no more! We’ll be forgiven and cleansed! We will see Jesus’ face, hear Jesus’ voice, feel Jesus’ touch, and we’ll sit down to feast with him.
Jesus calms a storm and casts out demons. Jesus came to liberate those who are taken captive in the cosmic battle between God and Satan. The saved man obeys Jesus and stays behind to boldly preach his story about what Jesus did for him. How can you share your story of what God has done for you? (Luke 8:22-39)
