We have all at least heard of the track "Last Night a DJ Saved My Life" and some of us have danced a thrilling night under its beats. But have you ever considered those DJs who might be breaking their own minds to play music to disengage yours. This podcast is an intimate and honest discussion about the trials and joys of the music business. Focussing on the urban dj scene in the UK in an ever expanding field of producing, globally touring DJs where there is a real problem with statistics.....
As part of the Good Evans Show's positive talk project I would like to highlight the work and vision of Levvy and EOTT for their creative response to this endemic.
Amanda Evans talks with 21 year old Levvy7, founder and director of EOTT, a not for profit organisation that produces brand merchandise under 'R U OK? campaign. This initiative is working at ground level to raise the awareness, acceptance and respect of young people amongst their peers on the scene, enabling positive and passionate dialogue around mental health.
I'm working on a soundtrack and music bed for a podcast on mental health in the music business.
I am intrigued by the plethora of multi genre rap, spoken word and performance poetry forms of lyrical consciousness that ignite the nation. The often complex and diverse rhetoric which slips like silk from the minds and mouths of our modern day griots has inspired me to write and record this blog. These are Bohemians of the truest nature and just like their verbally dextrous ancestors, they challenge and contradict form and limitation as they wonder the globe, telling, rhyming, spitting and simply saying it like they see it.
I am interested to find out and share with you the earliest exponents of the spoken lyric, those that teach through speak, those that inspire through speak and those that reveal the truth through speak.
What is rap, spoken word, performance poetry? And the big question, what’s the difference? Surely any form of spoken text that expounds social political awareness and provides a platform for equality and harmony is the rhapstory?
