Hi gang this is Glicknick Dave speaking with you about the Larry Glick digitization project.
Here it is September 2019 and with a little bit of sadness I must announce that we have reached the end of The Larry Glick digitization project. All of our Larry Glick audio files have been posted between both Larry Glick Podcast Pages. Those podcast pages are:

This project was conceived in the middle of 2006 when I was up in the attic looking through some old stuff when I came across some reel-to-reel tapes that I had made in the 1970's -- many of them were of Larry Glick.
Back then, I would set up a tape recorder to record Larry because he was so funny and enjoyable to listen to, but I worked nights at a Cleveland Radio Station, hence the recordings. So they sat in my attic for 30 years when I re-discovered them.
I thought Gee, wouldn't it be nice to digitize these tapes so that other people could enjoy them and give younger listeners a window on the world in the 1970's when there was no Internet, cable TV, Smart Phones, Satellite Radio Networks and such.
And by uploading these files we could use The Internet to show just what it was like back then.
Most of these tapes were un-scoped, or un-edited. They included commercials and the news.
Podcasts were becoming popular in 2006, but not quite as popular as they are now. We may have been a little bit ahead of our time.
I signed up for an account on Pod-O-Matic.com which was a new podcast service that just began around that time. It was in December of 2006 that I posted the first Larry Glick audio file. Larry did a show centered on Old Time Radio, and I was into OTR at the time and so was Larry, as he mentioned many times throughout the years.
You can still hear those files, and every Larry Glick audio clip we ever posted on the two previously mentioned Podcast pages.
I didn't post much of anything for about a year and a half as we got involved with other things. Then early in 2009 we began posting on a regular basis and started to include a summary description in text form of what the audio clip consisted of. I think it made it more interesting than if you would have just listened to the uploaded clip.
We got the word that Larry had passed away on March 26, 2009 when somebody posted the announcement on our Larry Glick Tribute Yahoo group.
After that we made the commitment to complete this project no mater how long it took. It took from December 2006 to August 2019 –13 years to complete this project.
Most of these clips are my recordings. I have re-posted a few that were not my original recordings like “The Graveyard Marauder”.
I recorded the audio clips with my Reel-To-Reel tape recorder. There are more Larry Glick recordings on the Internet and you can find them if you look, so we decided not to repost those.
One of my pet projects of listening to Larry over the years was trying to identify a musical jingle from a radio station that was on the same frequency as WBZ. That jingle was audible many times in the background. Curiously, the jingle was only audible to someone listening hundreds of miles away from WBZ. This was due to radio signal propagation at night when signals skip off the Ionosphere. Those listeners who were listening within a hundred miles or so received the WBZ signal via what is called Ground Wave where the signal is very strong and over powers the weaker signals.
I always wondered what radio station that jingle was from. I got my question answered on October 14, 1978 when a caller from Ohio explained to Larry that it was a station the Caribbean.

So that was the answer I was looking for way back then. After all that time listening to it, I found out about a month before my last Larry Glick recording.
My last dated recording of Larry was Thanksgiving 1978. I lost track for some time and when I once again tuned into WBZ looking for Larry, I heard somebody else doing the show. After a few weeks I finally had to call the station. I asked the screener where Larry was? She responded that he now did his show during the days. I was shocked and a bit saddened because WBZ was not receivable during daylight in Cleveland. The screener asked if I wanted to be put on the air. I politely declined.
Getting back to this mysterious DX jingle and something only a serious radio Dx'er would do, I digitized these jingles each and every time they occurred during the recordings. I then pasted them back to back in a separate audio file.
Your about to hear that in a minute. It's about 20 minutes in length, so feel free to zoom ahead if this is not your cup of tea. Larry will bid you Adieu after the clip so you may want to stay tuned.
So that's it...Thank you very much and I'm going to leave these files up hopefully forever. They'll stay up at least is is long as Pod-O-Matic is around.
The reason for Two Larry Glick podcast pages is that they are free accounts with limited space for files. I wanted to keep the site free so that many can enjoy these efforts. I would like to thank the Three people who donated via Pay Pal early on in this project. My reel-to-reel had broke down and I was unable to play back any tapes. I was able to find a used – parts only exact reel-to-reel on E-Bay. So we were able to see this project to the end thanks to you kind folks.

Next call is the Weston, Ma. Police calling. Fran, a patrolman from said department calls. He is a first time caller (round of applause). They speak a bit about incarceration of criminals. Fran wants his Sargent to hear “The Godfather”. Fran would like to ask Godfather a question. Larry obliges. Fran asks The Godfather if Larry can sing happy birthday to his wife, Maureen. Godfather okay's it and Larry sings Happy Birthday. (station fading).

Next caller is Doctor E.W. Perry, a Theologian from Baltimore, Md. Dr. Perry mentions a caller who asked if Jesus had any brothers or sisters. Dr. Perry did some research and gives the names after Larry takes a short commercial break.
As they start getting into some interesting discussion, Larry asks if he can get back with him to discuss further because they must run an old time radio segment next. The tape ends at that point.
WBZ Radio 1030 Jingle. Let's take a call. Reminder at 2:30 it's Old Time Radio.
Next caller, Dave talks about an article in The Enquirer about a lady who got struck by lightening and returns from the dead. Larry tells Dave that Vita, one of his regular callers had her house hit by lightening two times. Dave was once a Jockey and Larry wants to speak more with Dave after the news at 3 AM.

Viola is the next caller. She has 3 things to comment on. She had a bone stuck in her throat (response to a previous caller); She had a chance to tour the Holy Land. And she auditioned at WBZ 50 years ago as a concert pianist. They speak a bit about the history of WBZ.
Network news at the top of the hour (segment about Jonestown and The Peoples Temple in Guyana).
Let's take another call John, 254-5678! Vita calls Larry and asks if he received the drawing she sent. Larry asks what was it about. She answered, The (USS) Constitution, also known as Old Ironsides, a wooden-hulled, three-masted heavy frigate of the United States Navy named by President George Washington after the United States Constitution. Vita has a quiz for Larry – Who was the first woman born in America? The talk moves to Wine, and many mentions of Blue Nun, a German wine brand launched by the company H. Sichel Söhne (Mainz) in 1923.

We join Larry in conversation with Avi, a person who was born in Spain. His Mother was born in Morocco and his Father was born in Spain. He spent his early childhood in Israel.

We join Larry speaking with listener Marie about preparing Thanksgiving dinner.
Next caller is Al from Medford who wants Larry to ask him some questions in hope of winning a Glick University T-Shirt. Al doesn't do too well, but wishes Larry a happy Thanksgiving.
Next caller is Captain Jack. They speak of Larry going on vacation for three weeks beginning next week. They speak about the Jonestown Guyana mass murder. Then they speak about Larry's family name and it's origins. Larry mentions that he is going on a cruise.

Next caller is “Witch Hazel” in Watertown. They speak about Plymouth Rock and The Pilgrims. They have a little fun with the callers name. Hazel is a homemaker and listens to Larry all the time. Hazel wants a T-shirt. Larry explains he can't give it away until the gong goes off.

Next caller is Mike from the Lowell Post Office. Mike is glad to get through. He wants to start a Larry Glick Fan Club in Lowell, Ma. Mike is a staff sergeant in the national guard, so Larry has some fun with the bugle and Reveille plus other military clips. Mike asks Larry to play Babaluci. Larry obliges!

Short public service announcement then time check at three and a half before two. “Okay John Let's take another call”. Next call is Jean from Hamilton, Ohio a first time caller (round of applause). She listens to “BZ” every night. Jean talks about a station from Bonaire that is on the same frequency as WBZ and its musical jingle can be heard often in the background of WBZ programming.
(Note from Glicknick Dave: This is the mysterious jingle that I have noticed many times while listening to these shows back in the 1970's. When I began to digitize these shows in 2006, I took each instance of this jingle and made an audio file of the jingle. Why? Being a radio monitoring enthusiast, I enjoy DX'ing – listening to radio stations from distant locations. I first commented on this DX jingle in 2010 in the Larry Glick Yahoo Group and uploaded a clip of that DX jingle as I had as of 2010. (September 14, 2010 - Message 124)

For those of us Glicknicks who lived some distance from the WBZ transmitter, areas where the station would fade in and out, like here in Ohio, you may recall every hour or so in the background you could hear the notes of a musical jingle from another radio station. I often wondered what station it was. It wasn't WHO Des Moines, Iowa on 1040, which we clearly hear fading in often on the clips posted on this page. I tuned into Larry one morning after 4am while he was reading a letter from a listener. He was telling Larry about that same musical jingle. The listener explained to Larry that it was a very powerful radio station in the Caribbean. That same musical jingle can be heard throughout the clips that are posted on our podcast page. As an extra part of the Larry Glick digitization project, every time this jingle occurs, I copied it to a separate audio clip and spliced them together. So far I have a total of 1 minute 44 seconds. From time to time as I gather more instances of the jingle, I'll add it to these existing clips and repost it. Does anybody remember this?

Larry begins to tell a story of a lady from Massachusetts who preformed in the play Hair went to Australia. She was a high school drop out. Larry was trying to get the story behind the story, when a news item came across the wire about Elizabeth Taylor getting a chicken bone lodged in her esophagus.
Next caller, Seth tells Larry that the name of the RCA Victor Dog was named Nipper. Larry says that Seth is an unusual name, and they speak about Seth's family background. Seth tells Larry that he was the Program Director at WHDH radio from 1940-1945. They speak a bit about Seth's career in radio and beyond. Seth is 76, retired and in good health (some station fading). Before his radio days Seth delivered ice on an ice cart. Seth sure led an interesting life. Larry says goodbye and he would like to speak with Seth again.
Time now for old time radio. End of tape.
“Let's take another call” - Lucy from Revere, Massachusetts – first time caller (round of applause). Lucy wants to know if Larry found out the name of the dog on the RCA Victor label. Lucy claims it was Victor, but Larry has his doubts. Lucy is a housewife. Her husband works for a wrecking company and tows cars. His name is Ralph. He is working now so Larry says hello to Ralph since he listens at work. Larry asks Lucy about Ralph's job. Lucy talks about her lat father who was a musician.
It's 1:29 Next caller asks Larry how he is? Larry checks (familiar whistle) not bad. Robin from Milton, Ma. calls. Larry states “a rich kid”. Larry explains Milton is wealthy neighborhood. They share a laugh. Robin is taking a real estate course. Larry asks about Robin's family including mother and father. Robin is 18 years old. Larry states that his first wife was an Aries hen they touch on the astrological topic. Robin's mom shouts in the background “Tell Larry to play Babaluci”. They share a laugh and as they say goodbye, Larry plays Babaluci.

Larry interviews a person named Jim, who intends to ride a Kawasaki jet-ski (The stand-up Kawasaki Jet Ski was the first "commercially successful" personal watercraft in America, having been released in 1972) on the Atlantic Ocean and set a Guinness world record from Massachusetts to New York. They also talk about a Florida record he will attempt to set. Larry gives a weather outlook for Jim's New York attempt – Saturday October 14, 1978. Rainy and cool!

We begin with Larry having a short discussion with “Billy” who works at a radio station in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Larry mentions that WBZ receives interference from his station. *(More on this in a few months when we wrap-up the Larry Glick project).
Next call is Jeff from Chelsea in Michigan. Jeff works at a Chrysler auto plant. Jeff mentions that he is getting ready for the University of Michigan VS Michigan State football game. Larry asks Jeff to hold while they play some commercials. Back to Jeff. Jeff suggests that Jeff call a friend who is a race car driver in California. Larry promises to call him.
Network news at 1 AM (interesting mention of John Richie aka Sid Vicious of the Sex Pistols who's girlfriend was found dead in his apartment. The next few month found his life spiraling out of control which ultimately led to his death on February 2, 1979). Larry reads the weather and dates the program Saturday October 14, 1978. Ace Glick reads the sports scores.
First call after the news is Brian from Hudson, MA. Brian is obviously a young caller so Larry puts him at ease and has some fun with him. Brian asks Larry a trivia question.
Next is a Sharon from Alfred, MA. (station fades out and quickly fades back in) She attended Alfred University. Sharon is a nursing student. Some lively chit chat between Larry and Sharon.

Next caller is Karen (second time caller) from Mastic Beach, NY. Karen asks Larry to play “Libra” for her boyfriend who's birthday is today. Larry mentions his 21 year old daughter is also a Libra. Karen is 27 years old. Some friendly back and forth banter between Karen and Larry. Larry and Karen sing Happy Birthday to her boyfriend as Charlie DiGiovanni plays the harmonica.

“Let's take another call” Steve Sr. from Concord, a first time caller (round of applause). Steve's son calls every now and then. Steve goes back to the Big Band era and he comments on the legendary Carl DeSuze. Larry plays a short clip of a Big Band segment. Steve is a computer systems designer.

A quick call before the news. Gus from Brocton, Ma. He speaks of a person who has a system that could beat the horses. Larry asks him to pause while the news airs.
Associated Press Network news at the top of the hour. The Equal Rights Amendment leads the news. A segment on a new bill to help Farmers is presented by agriculture editor “John Holliman”. This is the same John Holliman that was one of CNN's "Boys of Baghdad" during the first Persian Gulf War in 1991 and was one of only three journalists reporting from Baghdad when allied bombing of the city began.

Larry gets back to Gus after the news, but the tape runs out and we never get to hear the ending of that conversation.
“Let's take another call”. Barry from Lake Worth, Florida a first time caller (round of applause). WBZ signal is good this morning. Barry is 22 and works at a Win-Dixie grocery store. He is originally from New England. Larry tells a story of an FM radio station that he owned in Florida at one time. He was trying to get Win-Dixie as a sponsor, but a larger radio station with more money came along and stole them away!
A commercial for the Larry Glick hypnosis act at a local night club.
Next call, John from Arlington a first time caller (round of applause). John discusses a machine designed to discourage Bats from nesting. Larry and John get into an extended discussion about a farm that he and some friends rent.

Larry Glick sign-on song at 12:05 just after the news. Larry acknowledges Stephen Smith, newsman (from THE BOSTON GLOBE Feb 23, 1988 -- Stephen E. Smith of Lynn, a radio newsman in New England for 30 years, died of an apparent heart attack Sunday in Boston's St. Elizabeth's Hospital. He was 55. Mr. Smith had worked as a reporter for WBZ radio since 1968). Larry does his opening monologue by talking about general points of interest including the weather. (during Larry's opening comments the door to the studio must have been open as a telephone can be heard ringing and the few second delay from the on-air signal. Larry asks Steve to turn the speaker down). Larry continues by mentioning an article about Paul Harvey, and speaks about Paul at some length. Larry explains to listeners who may be new to his program that it is a call-in program that is easy to get used to.

First call is Doug from Toronto, a first time caller (round of applause). Doug speaks of the New York Islanders Hockey Team and a 23 million dollar debt incurred by the owner. FROM NY TIMES: Roy L. M. Boe, whose Islander hockey team and Nets basketball team have been threatened by lawsuits and debts, was the subject of another multimillion‐dollar action yesterday).
Next caller is Jeff from Hazleton, Pa. After a slow start to the conversation Larry seems to put Jeff at ease somewhat and we find that Jeff is 23 years old and drives a tractor/trailer in the Midwest. He has been married for 4 years. Larry does some kidding about Jeff and his wife that may be considered inappropriate now, but in 1978 Larry could get away with it. Larry asks to speak with Jeff's wife, but she wont come to the phone. Jeff mentions that he is a first time caller (round of applause).

Back to The Lary Glick Show! In what is referred to as a blooper (now days they would say a You Tube moment), Larry announces Henry Mancini salutes John Philip Sousa and The Stars and Stripes Forever – But what begins playing is “Take Me Out To The Ball Game” with a Trombone! Larry quickly corrects the gaff and then the news intro chime begins! They then get the correct clip and all is well. During the song WBZ completely fade out and (probably) KDKA Pittsburgh fades in with some sports scores.

Next caller is Tonya from Brookline a first time caller (round of applause). Larry asks how old she is. Tonya replies, 13 today. Larry sings happy birthday with the harmonica played by Charlie DiGiovanni. Tonya asks Larry to “sing” Babaluci and that her mother told her about the song. Larry asks her why she is up so late. She replies “Just sing the song! Larry laughs it off and plays the song for her.

Some station fading in and out. Next caller is Diane first time caller from Roslindale, a residential neighborhood in Boston (round of applause). Diane asks Larry the question, How to approach a person who talks or walks in their sleep? Larry asks a few questions and Diane confesses that it is her. Her mother told her. Diane is 14 years old. Larry asks Diane to talk to her mother. Arlene, her mother get on the phone and she and Larry discuss Diane's sleepwalking. Station fades a bit and the conversation concludes.
Muck informs Larry that the line-up for the old time radio break is incorrect and that there will be a detective show rather than The Great Gildersleeve that Larry announced earlier. Station fading and commercials.
Next caller Judy has an answer for Diane the sleepwalker caller. However the station fades again and most of the call is not heard.
When the station fades in again, WBZ is airing the old time radio break. We believe that this 30 minute feature was a union rule so that staff could have a break. We edited the actual program out as it was not relevant to The Larry Glick Show. We pick up the remainder of Larry's show after the end of the old Time Radio break.
Larry plays The Banana Boat Song by Stan Freberg just before the news at 3 AM.
Associated Press Network News at 3 AM. The recording ends as Larry is reading the weather and just before he dates the program T........(uesday July 4th 1978).
We pick up where we left off with Larry's show early on July 4th, 1978. Time check: Twenty-One before Two on this Fourth of July. Gus from Brockton, Ma. calls with a few funny observations on left-over baloney! Larry and Gus talk about professional pool and Willie Mosconi vs. Minnesota Fats. Larry reminisces about an interview he did with Minnesota Fats. Gus asks Larry to play Rick Tinnery and Scollay Square. Larry obliges. Some station fading and a station ID from KDKA Pittsburgh is heard co-channel.
Next call is Ken who asks Larry if he heard of a black box that fell from the sky last winter. Larry says no, he doesn't know about it. Ken asks if Larry believes in UFO's. Larry says he does not.
Next caller is Jacques from Linwood, Ma. Some significant signal fading is occurring and another signal perhaps KDKA comes and goes with the WBZ signal. This was a rather common while listening to the AM broadcast band with signals that were hundreds of miles away. When the WBZ signal returns Larry is talking with Jacques about UFO's and little green men. Larry tells Muck to call someone at Patterson Air Force Base to ask about a UFO crash and the little green men.

News at 2 AM (co-channel fading and a KDKA, a Group-W Westinghouse station ID is heard). An interesting news segment regarding The Supreme Courts ruling concerning The 7 Dirty Words that George Carlin made famous with a comment from Carlin himself. For a period the listener can hear the same network news but with a second or two delay. The was no doubt due to the co-channel signal fading occurring that night. A news comment regarding pictures of women found in the motel suite of actor Bob Crane who was murdered five days earlier.

We begin with some patriotic music on Larry's 4th of July show celebrating America's Independence. First caller is Susie from Woodbridge, Virginia. Her husband is stationed at Fort Belvoir. Susie was in high school band and played a bass drum. She tells a story of mansions and castles.
Commercials.
Next caller speaks about pool, or billiards as some call it. They speak of some of the great players in the business. Larry and the caller talk about people in the public eye need to be kind to the public who approach them.
Commercial (Michelob).
Next caller is Nancy from Brookline, Massachusetts. She is a first time caller (round of applause). Nancy talks about the softball game between WBZ and the Arlington police (WBZ lost). Nancy is a Registered Nurse at Children's Hospital. Some substantial station fading as Larry asks Nancy some questions about her career. The signal recovers as Larry and Nancy continue their conversation. As the conversation comes to close Nancy asks Larry to play “The Baloney Song”. Larry obliges.

Now back to The Larry Glick. Time check: It's ten minutes after two. Larry returns to John who he was talking to before the news. They continue their discussion on Israel and Jews. The conversation switches to night time radio signals and all night shifts in radio.

Next caller is Joe from Lynn. He is a first time caller (round of applause). Joe works at an airport as a baggage handler. Joe asks if Larry could play “The Graveyard Marauder” clip. Larry explains that there is not enough time in this segment and they are going into an old time radio clip for 30 minutes at 2:30. Larry asks Muck to remind him to play the clip after 3 AM.
Next caller is Bob from Townsend, MA. Bob asks Larry about fireworks for the 4th of July. Larry says no and that Massachusetts outlawed fireworks. Larry and Bob speak briefly about diet and a mutual friend. Bob asks Larry where The Godfather has been because he has a favor to ask him (Que the Godfather theme). Bob asks the godfather to play Reveille for some friends that are having trouble staying awake. The godfather grants his favor.

Next, Larry introduces an old time radio show that plays at 2:30 AM. This was due to union regulations where the technical staff was due a break during their shift. We will edit out the old time radio as this had nothing to do with the Larry Glick show.
Commercials, then Associated Press Network news at 3:00 AM. Larry reads the weather and dates the program Saturday July 1st, 1978. Ace Glick reads the sports scores.
Now back to the Larry Glick Show. Bob from Dorchester (a neighborhood in Boston, Massachusetts) is a first time caller (round of applause). Larry asks Bob what he does for a living. Bob does not want to say. Larry edges him on, but nothing doing. So they move on to news of a homicide of a cab driver from the Roxbury neighborhood and Bob wants to find out more about it. Larry tries to smoke Bob out with some more questions, but Bob wont budge!
Larry then plays “The Graveyard Marauder” clip as he promised a caller earlier in the hour. This clip is incomplete. It ends abruptly when my reel-to-reel tape ends.

Larry takes a call from Paul, a first time caller (round of applause). Paul speaks of a good friend of his who turned into an alcoholic. Paul admits he is probably an alcoholic also. His friend died and wound up in a plowed snow drift and wasn't discovered for for quite a while. Paul is a hairdresser, which prompts Larry to make a comment about how Paul sounds. What proceeds to happen is an extended bleep of the conversation (about 18 seconds) when Larry returns, Paul is gone from the conversation.

We join Larry as he is having a light-hearted discussion about ethnicity with Jeanette.
Time check: It’s eight minutes before one. Next caller is Carol from East Boston, a first time caller (round of applause). Carol talks about frequenting local restaurants. Carols husband owns a gas station.
Next caller is John from Scituate but he used to live in Abington, Ma. He just thought he would call. His wife is in the other room listening. Larry asks John to hold on (John, quick-wittedly replies “to what”?) because of network news at the top of the hour. The news was edited out on this tape, so we join Larry and John after the news. John suggests that Larry just give the sports scores and not who won or lost. Larry doesn’t buy it. John’s wife is Kathleen and is hiding about now. John begins to tell a story about his house burning down, but his wife asks not to tell it. John is going back to work as a chemical salesman. John asks Larry to play the cemetery cut.
Next caller is Carol from “The Berry” Larry asks where? She replies Roxbury. She is a first time caller (round of applause). Carol wants to know if Larry is going to play Babaluci tonight. She loves that record. She has seven children with her husband. The oldest is 23 and the youngest is 10. Larry plays Babaluci.
Next is a WBZ winter promo then a few commercials.
It’s 22 minutes after 1. Next call is Debbie, Greg’s girlfriend. She is 13 years old. Larry and Debbie discuss Greg’s birthday.
Next caller is Ricky from Malden, a first time caller (round of applause). Ricky is 11 years old. Ricky’s father is a toll collector. Larry explains the difference between a Piper and a Cessna as they discuss flying. Then Ricky asks Larry to play CB Savage. Larry asks Ricky a few questions that probably wouldn’t be politically correct in today’s world. Larry plays CB Savage, a song that wouldn’t be politically correct in today’s world.
A huge blizzard is expected to slam the Northeast this Friday February 8th, 2013. Up to 3 Feet of snow is expected in the Boston area. The media is comparing this to “The Great Blizzard of 1978”.
Thanks to Bob Zosa for jogging my memory with his comment from the January 27, 1978 Larry Glick clip, I realized that I had a tape of WBZ that night during The Larry Glick Show. Noticing that I was not going to get the commentary and audio uploaded before the 2013 Blizzard hit, I decided to splice some of the blizzard news that went on during Larry’s program.

It is interesting to note just how much we relied on radio for breaking news and weather information 35 years ago.

Let’s take another call: Jackie from Chelsea who works at the Woodlawn Manor Nursing Home in Everett, Ma. Larry mentions that Donna’s grandmother lives there and if Jackie knows her. Yes, she does indeed. Jackie is a Nurses Aid and enjoys working with people. She was born in Kentucky. Her late husband was from the Boston area. She is about to become a Grandmother. She mentions her two brothers who are from Kentucky. Larry jokes if they might have a still there now.

Meg answers and they get on the topic of weight gain when quitting smoking. Larry then asks Meg a question that only Larry could get away with. Larry’s first guess is Cancer. She says no. Larry’s 2nd guess is Libra – Correct! Larry asks if she has the same time as in Boston. She says yes. Larry wonders where the time line is that they switch to central time.
Larry asks her to hold while they air some commercials. When he returns he tells Chris the news is up soon and thanks her for calling. She asks Larry to play the Libra tape for her. Larry says he will.

Let’s take some calls. Allan from Pennsylvania calls. Allan asks a question about Exorcism. Allan asks Larry what his favorite drink is. Next caller, Steve is drug enforcement officer. They talk about Steve’s experiences in drug enforcement. At first Steve appears to be inebriated, or very, very tired. Larry asks some questions and decides to continue the conversation. The conversation goes well and Steve provides some insight into his occupation.
Finally Larry has to move on with the program. And as he does, he has some fun with Steve by playing a police siren, gunshots, and a helicopter, along with some funny comments from The Commander.
Fred from Washington (D.C.) a first time caller (round of applause) a retired policeman is the next caller. He tells a story about taking a batch of whiskey to a police chief’s party. Fred offers to be a guest on Larry’s show to answer any and all questions regarding police work. Larry and Fred speak about hiring, firing, and favoritism in the Police Department.

Next caller, Bob from Chelsea - The Fat Man, watched Serpico last night. Tells a quick story of a scary small plane landing he was involved in due to his weight.
Next call is from Richard from just North of Detroit, Michigan. He witnessed an exorcism. He is an assistant in a church as a youth director. Richard tells the story then he and Larry have a discussion about demons. At the end Richard asks Larry to play The Baloney Song. Larry says yes.

Next call Diane from Billerica, Ma. First time caller long time listener. Round of applause from Larry. Tells an interesting story about a lady she met. It turned out to be Curt Gowdy’s wife.

Larry responds that he is learning about a lot of things he didn’t know about before like aerodynamics, meteorology, navigation, and communication. To give you a perspective on the timeframe of these recordings, Larry King was a totally unknown radio personality outside of Miami Florida.
Larry King did not begin his nationwide radio call-in show on The Mutual Radio Network for another 27 days, until January 30, 1978.
And his CNN Cable TV show was still seven years in the future.
