In honor of Andy's birthday, Amanda Pease and I created a surprise finale episode where we review the film 'Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons'. This movie has always meant a lot to me since Andy and I watched it ten years ago. It was wonderful to share it with Amanda and Wren, even if Warren Jr. had to see half of it through his mom's fingers. I'm grateful we were able to record this via zoom without access to the Substation recording "studio". Finally, I'm thankful for you all in Andy's community. You've listened, you've commented, you've boosted, you've cried and you've laughed. You've been here when I really needed you. Cheers!
Happy New Year, everybody! Like this film's title, 2020 has been idiotically redundant and chock-full of bad times. "In a world where..." protagonists purport to be shitty dudes who then reveal their vulnerable side just to get killed off for no reason, this was a poignant film to end this painfully short podcast. I will not be cutting this episode down to a bite-sized version for two reasons: Reason 1: It's hilarious that Andy takes 93 minutes to complain about the length of the 150 minute movie when our analysis of its plot only took 63 minutes. Reason - Washington DC: Life is absurd. Reason 5: This is THEE last episode of THEE MOVIE PROFESSORS that I made with my friend Andy. I'm sure you'll agree that every burp, each hem and haw, and every single tangent was necessary and more importantly, irreplaceable. Thank you for joining us.

Episode 3 is (finally!) here! Andy and I analyze John Ford's 1939 film 'Stagecoach', not to be confused with the made-for-TV remake starring Willie Nelson and the Dukes of Hazzard guy. It's a western set in the 1880's, detailing the horrors of Apaches, women who sell their love, and sharing drinking water with lower-class people. Despite this, the film was viewed as 'woke' for its time. I probably can't convince you to listen to this episode for its historical lessons alone, but I CAN promise that you will get our signature Andy-nerding-out and Shelly-faking-preparation-before-recording banter that I'm sure you've come to expect. Real, classic-Andy/Shelly stuff. Following this release will be the BONUS UNCUT AND RAW version, a mere 60 minutes. Please enjoy and share all over the place!

You'll understand why Andy and I couldn't manage to keep our banter under 70 minutes. But hey! Before you bookmark this page under 'Listen Later', note that I hacked the conversation down into a 35 minute bite-size 'studio release' episode, much like machete-ing the limbs off a body so it can fit into a mini fridge. Please keep that image in mind as you listen, for my expertise lies in bullshitting, not audio-engineering. In April 2019, I begged Andy to let me guest-star on a podcast he was participating in. Instead, he suggested we start our own. Two weeks later, we were in the Substation space, recording our thoughts on the 1971 movie, The Abominable Dr. Phibes. We liked doing this SO MUCH that we immediately made three more episodes, wrote a theme song and designed a logo for our ridiculous name: Thee Movie Professors podcast. As Andy began spending much of his time in the hospital, he was unable to drive to the space. I was making plans to bring recording equipment to his hospital bed so we could discuss “The Seventh Samurai” which we had just watched in his Burien home. He died in September, with no respect for continuity. While those of us in his support team grappled with unbearable grief, we somehow managed to produce this podcast and made it into something I’m truly proud of. It would have never been possible without the help from Andy’s sister Amanda and his best friend Andrew, both humans who are wonderful beyond words. Here’s Episode One; guest-starring The Rant. Andy’s friends: You’ll know the one I mean. Amanda and I will make sure the other episodes are released soon, but we needed to put this one out there; wrap it up like a present to give to his loved ones. I miss him every day but now I have this very real, tangible piece of our friendship. Andy lived his life according to the adage “You want to be an artist? Make art". If I have to, I’ll extrude oil and sear this thing into vinyl, putting off all bio-degrade and mortality. I’ll make sure this lives forever. The great poet Ovid said, “Though the closing fires consume me, my better half shall live ever on”. It’s unclear if he was referring to his dick or his poetry, but I’m gonna go with the latter for the sake of this pretentious closing remark.
