The Pioneers season came to an end against the #1 seeded Wildcats with a 28-6 loss on a bright, sunny and warm Saturday afternoon at New London-Spicer. The Pioneers scored in the 1st quarter on a QB sneak by Garrett Cummings to take a 6-0 lead and the game was tied 6-6 at halftime. But the Wildcats scored 22 unanswered points in the 2nd half to advance to the 6AAA Championship. The Pioneers ended their season with a record of 6-4.

The 12th seeded Pioneers saw their season come to an end against the 5th seeded Wolves with a 3-1 loss. The Pioneers staged a big rally in the 1st set to win 26-24, but then Milaca swept the next 3 sets by scores of 20-25, 23-25, 21-25. Pierz ends the season with a record of 7-20. It was the final match for 8 outstanding Seniors: Ashley Kimman, Sydney Suska, Kendra Cekalla, McKayla Smude, Addie LeBlanc, Jadyn Dorn, Elissa Pawlu and Kaleah Olesch.
The 4th seeded Pioneers opened the Section 6AAA Playoffs with a 27-14 win over the Dutchmen. Kirby Fischer ran for 167 yards and 3 touchdowns on the offensive side while also leading the team with 15 tackles and recovering a fumble on defense. Jacob LeBlanc ran for 90 yards with a touchdown and a 2-point conversion run. Derek Stangl had an end zone interception and Max Barclay recovered a fumble off a Gene Skiba sack as Pierz advanced to the Semifinals against New London-Spicer.
The Pioneers closed out their regular season with a 22-14 road loss to the Royals. Kirby Fischer ran for 2 touchdowns and booted a pair of extra points and Jacob LeBlanc ran for 110 yards but a Connor Carlson 29 yard touchdown run with 3:30 left in the game broke a 14-14 tie and lifted Royalton to the win.
For the second time this season, the Pioneers and Flyers played a thrilling 5-set match, and just like the previous meeting in Pierz, Little Falls came out on top 3-2 by scores of 16-25, 26-24, 25-12, 25-27, 14-16. This match wrapped up the regular season for the Pioneers with a record of 7-19.
The Pioneers closed out the home portion of their season schedule with a 3-0 setback at the hands of the Silverstreaks by scores of 17-25, 19-25, 22-25.
The Pioneers lost 38-7 to the undefeated Eagles on Friday night. The game turned late in the 1st half when the Pioneers were trailing 20-7 but had the ball inside the EVW 10 with less than :30 to go. But instead of a touchdown for Pierz, the Eagles got a 95 yard interception return for a touchdown with :06 left to make it 26-7. Jacob LeBlanc ran for 96 yards and the Pioneers only touchdown in the loss. Kirby Fischer had 2 interceptions on defense for Pierz.
The Pioneers lost 3-0 to the Huskies in Albany by scores of 17-25, 14-25, 19-25. Leading the Pioneers were Ashley Kimman with 15 kills and 10 digs, and Kendra Cekalla with 22 assists.
The Pioneers beat the Royals 3-1 by scores of 25-23, 26-28, 25-20, 25-15 to earn their 7th win of the season. Ashley Kimman had 15 kills and 21 digs, Kendra Cekalla had 30 assists, Maddie Lochner had 17 digs, Alyssa Sadlovsky had 15 digs and 9 kills and McKayla Smude had 10 kills to lead the Pioneers.
The Pioneers beat the Dutchmen 34-14 to improve to 5-1, using a strong rushing attack led by Reese Young with 184 yards and a touchdown, Kirby Fischer ran for 100 yards and scored 3 times and Derek Stangl added 82 yards on the ground. Caden Knutson picked off his 3rd pass of the season and Gene Skiba, in his first game, registered 5 tackles.
The Pioneers, tied for 6th place in the Granite Ridge Conference, pushed the Conference-leading Crusaders to 5 sets in Pierz on Thursday. The Pierz were serving for the match at 14-13 in the 5th, but the Crusaders managed to score the final 3 points to win 16-14 and avoid the Pioneers bid for a major upset. Game scores were 16-25, 25-22, 11-25, 25-21, 14-16.
The Pioneers were unable to hold a 2-1 lead as the Thunder rallied for a 3-2 victory in Granite Ridge Conference action on Tuesday in Zimmerman. Game scores were 24-26, 25-22, 25-21, 10-25, 9-15.
The Pioneers lost their Homecoming game 26-24 when the Tigers scored 2 touchdowns and added a 2-point conversion in the final 8 minutes to rally. Jacob LeBlanc ran for 2 touchdowns while Derek Stangl and Garrett Cummings also scored rushing touchdowns. Kirby Fischer rushed for a season-high 108 yards for the Pioneers.
The Pioneers beat the Mustangs 3-1 to pick up their 2nd Conference win of the season. Game scores were 24-26, 25-10, 25-20 and 26-24. Ashley Kimman delivered 23 kills and had 13 digs, Alyssa Sadlovsky added 10 kills and 11 digs and Kendra Cekalla dished out 37 assists in the victory.
The Pioneers beat the Thunder Hawks 35-21 at Jacob LeBlanc ran for a career-high 224 yards and 2 touchdowns, Garrett Cummings added 2 scoring runs and Reese Young also found the end zone. Kirby Fischer was a perfect 5-5 on extra-point kicks as Pierz improved to 3-0.
The Pioneers road to a 4-0 record wasn't a smooth one as they won a tight 12-7 battle with the Rockets. Jacob LeBlanc ran the ball 30 times for 184 yards and both Pierz touchdowns. But the lead trimmed to 12-7 late in the 4th quarter and the Rockets driving, Caden Knutson intercepted a pass at the Pierz 13 with under a minute left to play to seal the 12-7 victory for the Pioneers.
The Pioneers drop an exhilarating 3-2 match to the Flyers by scores of 19-25, 25-14, 26-24, 17-25, 16-18. In the decisive 5th set, both teams had potential Match Point opportunities twice before the Flyers prevailed with an 18-16 win in Set 5.
The Pioneers beat the Lakers 43-14 to improve to 2-0. Garrett Cummings ran for 3 touchdowns while Jacob LeBlanc and Derek Stangl also rushed for touchdowns. The Pioneers also got a defensive score when Reese Young scooped up a fumble and raced 33 yards for a 3rd quarter score as Pierz won on the road for the first time this season.
The Pioneers fall 3-1 to the Falcons in Granite Ridge Conference action despite 21 kills from Ashley Kimman.
The Lightning capped off a dream season by beating their Victory League rival from Buckman 12-3 in the Class C State Championship in Faribault on Labor Day. Brett Kramer, a draftee from Fort Ripley, earned the Win in relief. After the Billygoats scored 3 in the top of the 1st, it was all Nisswa after that, as the Lightning plated 12 unanswered runs to win the first State Title in team history. Jeremiah Piepkorn had 4 hits and drove in 4 runs, Kody Ruedisili was 3-4 and Aaron Jenkins was 3-4 with a Homer and 3 rbi to lead the offense. Lane Girtz, Noah Boser and Matt Kummet drove in 1st inning runs for Buckman, who finished as State runner-up for the 2nd time in franchise history.
The Billygoats beat the Red Devils 6-4 in the Class C State Tournament Semifinals in Faribault on Sunday. Nathan Ehnstrom, a draftee from Aitkin picked up the Win with Matt Tautges earning a Save. The Goats defense was outstanding, turning 3 double plays including one to end the game. Noah Boser went 3-5 with a double and 3 rbi, Lane Girtz went 2-2 with 2 walks, Andrew Rueckert was 2-3 with a double and 3 rbi and Jack Suska was 1-4 with a double as the Billygoats win set up an All Region 8C Championship game with Nisswa.
The Billygoats beat the Saints 13-4 in the Class C Quarterfinals in Faribault behind the veteran pitching combination of Todd Robinson and draftee Mike Beier of Foley. Noah Boser had 3 hits including a double and drove in 3 runs, Lane Girtz had a pair of hits and 2 rbi, Jack Suska had 2 hits including a double and 2 rbi, Andrew Rueckert had a 2-hit game and Aaron Weber belted a 3-run Homer to power Goat Nation into the Semifinals against Watertown.
The Pioneers lost 3-0 to Class AA's #1 ranked team, Pequot Lakes on Tuesday at the MAC. Game scores were 25-9, 25-19, 25-11. Ashley Kimman led the Pioneers with 5 kills and 4 assists.
While the Avon Lakers were dropping a heart breaker to St. Patrick on Saturday in Dundas, the Nisswa Lightning were taking on the New Ulm Brewers at the same time in Faribault. I picked up the broadcast of the final few innings of the Lightning's 4-2 win over New Ulm that propelled Nisswa into the State Quarterfinals against the Jordan Brewers.
The Lakers season came to a heartbreaking end with a 5-4 loss to the Irish in Dundas in the State Tournament Sweet Sixteen. Matt Meyer went 5-5 for Avon and Reese Gregory and Riley Voit had a pair of hits. With Avon leading 4-3 going to the bottom of the 9th, St. Patrick's Jack Friedges led off with a double, followed by a walk-off 2-run Homer from Ryan Friedges to send the Irish to the Quarterfinals.
The Billygoats beat the Lakers 8-5 in Dundas on Saturday in the Class C Quarterfinals. Buckman trailed Waconia 5-1 after 3 innings but then the Goats bats woke up, erasing that lead by scoring in 6 consecutive innings. Noah Boser had 3 hits, including a double and Homer, Matt Tautges had 3 hits including a go-ahead 2-run triple, Lane Girtz added 3 hits and Andrew Rueckert doubled and Homered to power the Buckman offense. Drew Beier, a draftee from Foley, pitched 6 shutout innings, allowing just 2 hits as Buckman moved on to the Quarterfinals on Sunday against Dumont.
The Pioneers opened the season with a 28-14 win at home over the Huskers, using 2 touchdowns in the 4th quarter to break a 14-14 tie. Derek Stangl burst free for a 99 yard kickoff return, Kirby Fischer ran for a touchdown and caught a pass from Garrett Cummings for another and Reese Young cemented the victory with a 75 yard touchdown run with under 2 minutes left. For the Huskers, Drew Lange and Luke Bieniek ran for 1st half scores.
The Pioneers edged the Wolves 3-2 in front of a large, energetic crowd at the MAC in the home opener for Pierz. Game scores were 25-14, 18-25, 17-25, 26-24, 15-13.
The Avon Lakers edged the St. Martin Martins 2-1 in 11 innings in a suspended game played at 2 sites on 2 days. After the Martins took a 1-0 lead in Faribault on Saturday night after an inning and a half, heavy rain forced a suspension of play. The game resumed on Sunday afternoon in Meisville with that 1-0 score holding up until the top of the 7th when Elian Mezquita drilled an rbi double off the left field wall to plate pinch-runner Cody Stich and tie the game 1-1. In the top of the 11th, Caleb Curry smashed a 1-out solo Homer to put Avon up 2-1. In the bottom of the 11th, Matt Swanson, a draftee from Upsala, walked 2 and gave up a single as St. Martin loaded the bases with 2 outs, but Swanson got a game-ending pop out to Ryan Janzen at 2nd to send the Lakers to the Sweet 16.
The Buckman Billygoats blanked the Luverne Redbirds 4-0 in the 2nd round of the Class C State Tournament in Faribault as Matt Tautges fired a Complete Game 5-hitter for his 2nd Complete Game Win of the Tournament. Jack Suska got the scoring started with a 3rd inning rbi double, followed by a run-scoring single by Matt Tautges. Noah Boser led off the 4th with a long Homerun to make it 3-0, then in the 6th, Matt Kummet singled home Noah Boser to make it 4-0 and send the Billygoats into the Sweet 16.
The Nisswa Lightning staged a big late-game comeback to beat the Raymond Rockets 6-5 in the 2nd round of the Class C State Tournament in Faribault. Trailing 5-1 entering the bottom of the 8th, Kody Ruedisili doubled home a run to make it 5-2, then Nic Nelson followed with a 2-run double of his own to make it 5-4. In the bottom of the 9th, Nate DeChaine's 2-run double capped the Nisswa comeback and sent them to the Sweet 16.
The Buckman Billygoats defeated the Cannon Falls Bears 7-1 in the first round of the Class C State Tournament on Saturday night in Faribault. Matt Tautges fired a Complete Game 4-hitter for the Win and Andrew Rueckert led a 10-hit Billygoats attack by going 3-4 with 2 rbi and a run scored. Aaron Weber went 2-4 with a 2-run double and scored twice while Jack Suska had a pair of hits and scored on a delayed steal of home. Matt Kummet and Travis Kahl also drove in runs in the Billygoats win.
The Pierz Lakers lost 6-5 to the Watkins Clippers in the first round of the Class C State Tournament in Faribault. Paul Herman had 3 hits ad scored a run, Ryan Diers had a big 2-run single and Noah Cekalla and Brady Petron had 2 hits each and each man drove in a run. But the Clippers, trailing 5-3 with 2 outs in the bottom of the 8th, managed to rally for 3 runs to take a 6-5 lead and then hold the Lakers scoreless in the 9th to end the Lakers season.
The Avon Lakers beat the Fairmont Martins 4-3 in a thrilling 2-out game winning single by Ryan Janzen in the bottom of the 9th in Dundas in the first round of the Class C State Tournament. Trailing 3-0 entering the bottom of the 3rd, The Lakers Caleb Curry connected for a game-tying Homerun. The winning rally was set up by a lead-off walk by Joe Dolan and a perfect sacrifice bunt by Cody Stich. Matt Swanson, a draftee from Upsala, hurled 3 shutout innings in relief to earn the Win.
The Buckman Billygoats beat the Pierz Lakers 4-1 in the Region 8C 3rd Place game in Avon on Sunday. Todd Robinson won his 2nd game of the Tournament with draftee from Aitkin Nathan Ehnstrom earning the Save in his first appearance. Chad Weiss gave Pierz an early 1-0 lead with a 3rd inning rbi single but the Billygoats took the lead in the bottom of the 4th on rbi singles from Aaron Weber and Matt Kummet. Buckman added 2 more in the 7th on a bases loaded walk to Lane Girtz and a sacrifice fly from Noah Boser.
The Nisswa Lightning captured their 4th Region 8C Championship in the last 7 seasons with a 6-4 come-from-behind victory over the Avon Lakers on Sunday in Avon. Trailing 4-3 going into the 9th, Nisswa got a 2-run double from Nic Nelson to take the lead, then added an insurance run on a sacrifice fly by Nate DeChaine. Region 8C Tournament MVP Brett Kramer, draftee from Fort Ripley, hurled the final 4 innings to get the Win.
The Pierz Lakers came out of the gate with 5 runs in the bottom of the 1st and that was enough as Pierz clinched a spot at State with a 5-1 win over the Foley Lumberjacks on Saturday night in Avon. 1 run scored on an error, Peter Herman cracked a 2-run double, Brady Petron had an rbi double of his own and then Petron would score on a squeeze but play. Preston Rocheleau and Noah Cekalla combined to limit the Lumberjacks to 5 hits. Drew Beier had 3 of those hits, including a pair of doubles. Mitch Keeler's rbi single in the 8th accounted for Foley's only run.
The Buckman Billygoats clinched a spot in the State Tournament with a 6-2 win over the St. Stephen Steves on Saturday in Avon. Noah Boser had 3 hits including an rbi double and scored twice and stole a pair of bases. Lane Girtz had a big 2-run single in the 2nd and finished with 2 hits. Aaron Weber and Matt Tautges also had multi-hit games for the Goats. Matt Tautges hurled a Complete Game, scattering 5 hits while striking out 8. For the Steves, Mat Meyer had a solo Hr and an rbi single to account for both of St. Stephen's runs.
The Foley Lumberjacks and Randall Cubs had their Elimination game on Sunday night in Freeport suspended by rain with Foley leading 3-1 in the 2nd inning. When play resumed Monday night, Lumberjacks veteran Mike Beier threw 5 shutout innings and Foley scored 3 in the 4th with Mitch Loegering delivering a 2-run single to make it 6-1. Josiah Peterson's 2-run double in the 6th made it 8-1, then a 4-run top of the 7th was keyed by rbi singles from Chuck Hackett, Alex Foss and Colby Johnson and a run-scoring ground out by Mitch Loegering made it 12-1. Drew Beier then pitched a scoreless bottom of the 7th to end the game early.
The Nisswa Lightning clinched a berth in the State Tournament with a 7-3 victory over the St. Stephen Steves on Sunday in Freeport at the Region 8C Tournament. After both teams scored 3 runs in the 1st inning, it was the Lighting's pitching combo of starter Nate DeChaine and reliever Brett Kramer, a draftee from Fort Ripley, that blanked the Steves offense for the final 8 innings. Jeremiah Piepkorn broke the 3-3 tie with a 2-run single in the 2nd to make it 5-3, then Nisswa scored on an error in the 8th and then Nic Nelson belted his 2nd solo Homer of the game leading off the 9th for the 7-3 final.
The Avon Lakers claimed a spot in the State Tournament with a 2-1 win over the Pierz Lakers at the Region 8C Tournament in Freeport on Sunday. Avon scored in the top of the 1st when Ryan Janzen raced home on a wild pitch, but Pierz tied it in the 2nd when Ryan Diers led off with a double, then scored on an rbi single from Chad Weiss. In the bottom of the 2nd, Ryan Janzen added a 2-out rbi single to put Avon ahead 2-1. From that point on, pitching dominated. Avon's draftee Matt Swanson from Upsala, took over from starter Matt Pichelmann in the 4th and threw 6 perfect innings, retiring all 18 Pierz batters he faced. Preston Rocheleau of Pierz threw an outstanding Complete Game, allowing just 2 runs on 4 hits over 8 innings.
The Buckman Billygoats kept their season alive with a 6-0 win over the Freeport on Sunday morning at the Region 8C Tournament in Freeport. The star of the show was Billygoats 46 year old pitch Todd Robinson, who threw a Complete Game 1-hit shutout and allowed only 3 base runners all game! Robinson hit a batter and walked another in the 1st inning but after that, only Jake Braegelmann's lead-off single in the 5th gave the Black Sox a base runner. Robinson finished the game by retiring the final 14 men he faced. Jack Suska, Joe Kahl and Andrew Rueckert led the offense with 2 hits each.
The last game of the 1st day in Freeport during the Region 8C Tournament didn't end until 1:10 am but it turned out to be worth the wait as the Steves built a 5 run lead only to have the Lumberjacks rally to tie the game in the top of the7th. But Jack Greenlun led off the bottom of the 7th with a Homer to break the tie and the Steves held on to win 7-6. Greenlun had a monster game , going 4-5 with a pair of solo Homer's, an rbi double and a 2-run single to finish with 5 rbi.
The Nisswa Lightning were down to their final strike in the bottom of the 9th and trailing 2-0 to the Randall Cubs when Kody Ruedisili doubled with the bases loaded to clear the bases and give Nisswa a 3-2 win over the Cubs in a first round Region 8C game in Freeport.
The Avon Lakers edged the Buckman Billygoats 3-2in a first round game in the Region 8C Tournament in Freeport when Reese Gregory belted a tie-breaking solo Homer in the bottom of the 8th. Joe Dolan then made an outstanding running catch in deep right-center to start a game-ending double play for Avon.
The Pierz Lakers opened the rain-delayed Region 8C Tournament in Freeport with a 6-3 win over the Freeport Black Sox. Ryan Diers belted a 3-run Homer in a 4-run 1st for the Lakers. Bryce Flanagan, a draftee from Fort Ripley, earned the Win in relief for Pierz.
The Black Sox beat the Cubs 11-1 in 7 innings to claim the #3 seed in the South/West Division Playoffs as Mitch Reller threw a Complete Game 4-hitter. Freeport had 5-run innings in the 2nd and 4th to seize control. Bryan Benson, Nate Mettenburg and Brady Pesta all had 2-run singles in the game for Freeport. Kyle Peterschick produced the Cubs only run with a 3rd inning rbi triple.
The Billygoats beat the Brewers 8-4 in a Region 8C Play-In game as Matt Tautges fired a Complete Game, striking out 11. Jack Suska Homered and drove in 3 runs and Andrew Rueckert Homered and doubled to drive in a pair of runs to power the Goats to victory. For the Brewers, Ryan Stuckmayer and Preston Veith had 2 hits each.
The Lakers beat the Rebels 4-2 to advance to the Division Championship as Carter Petron worked 6 shutout innings, allowing 2 hits while striking out 11. Preston Rocheleau doubled and drove in 2 runs and Ryan Diers added a big rbi single in the 88th inning. Alex Haapajoki went 2-4 with an rbi for the Rebels.
The Pierz Lakers edged the Pierz Brewers 5-4 in a first round Division Playoff game at Hellie Field. Noah Cekalla came out of the bullpen to throw 6 innings, allowing 1 run on 4 hits while striking out 8 to get the Win. Carter Petron drove in a pair of runs for the Lakers with a single and a sacrifice fly. Ryan Diers doubled twice, walked and drove in a run with a squeeze bunt to help lead the Lakers offense. For the Brewers, Ryan Stuckmayer went 3-4 with a walk, stole a base and scored a run. The Brewers left the bases loaded in the 9th.
Top-seeded Avon beat #8 Opole 5-1 on Friday night to open the South/West Division Playoffs. Cole Wellmann hurled 6 shutout innings, scattering 3 hits to get the Win. Matt Meyer went 2-3 with an rbi and Caleb Curry was 1-3 with 2 rbi to lead the Lakers. Tate Lange went 1-4 with a double for the Bears.
The Bears beat the Falcons 4-2 as Austin Lange gave Opole a 1st inning lead with a 2-out rbi single. Jordan Schmitz belted a 2-run Homer in the 4th to make it 3-0. Flensburg got an rbi double from Russ Fellbaum in the 7th to make it 3-1, then Brent Carry's 8th inning ground out drove in another run to bring Flensburg within 1 at 3-2. In the bottom of the 8th, Jordan Schmitz delivered again with a 2-out rbi double to make it 4-2. Tate Lange went 7 innings for the Win with Isaiah Folsom closing things out for a Save. Opole advances to face #1 seed Avon while Flensburg's season came to an end.
The Rebels beat the Brewers 5-2 to lock up the #2 seed in the Playoffs. Bryce Flanagan went 6 innings to get the Win and Brett Kramer threw 3 shutout innings in relief for the Save. Mike Poser gave Pierz a 2-0 lead with a 2-run single in the 3rd, but the Rebels answered with 4 in the bottom of the 3rd on a game-tying 2-run single by Bryce Flanagan and run scoring singles from Nick Jelacie and Brett Kramer to go up 4-2. Fort Ripley added 1 more run in the 6th on a Brewers error for a 5-2 final.
The Billygoats beat the Lakers 6-4 at Hellie Field as Matt Tautges threw a Complete Game, striking out 12. Tautges also went 3-4 with a 2-run double that put Buckman ahead for good in the 2nd inning.
The Randall Cubs beat the Sobieski Skis 5-3 on Sunday as Caleb Strack hurled a Complete Game, striking out 14 and scattering 5 hits. Strack also had 3 hits, including a pair of doubles and scored 2 runs. Dane Couture had a big day at the plate for the Cubs, belting a lead-off Homer in the 2nd and then coming through with the go-ahead rbi single in the 8th inning.
The Pierz Lakers beat the Pierz Bulldogs 5-1 on Saturday night at Hellie Field. Max Barclay's 4th inning solo Homer gave the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead that held up until Paul Herman's 2-out, 2-run single in the 7th. The Lakers then tacked on another 3 runs in the 9th, including another 2 rbi's for Paul Herman for the 5-1 victory.
Matt Swanson of the Upsala Bluejays fired the first no-hitter of his outstanding 18-year career as he blanked the Swans 10-0 on Saturday in Swanville. Swanson struck out 15 in his masterpiece. Brady Burggraff had a big day offensively for the Jays with a 3-run Homer in the 1st and a 2-run blast in the 2nd.
The Lakers blanked the Falcons 12-0 in 8 innings as Matt Pichelmann fired a Complete Game 2-hitter with 12 strikeouts. Joe Dolan's 3-run Homer in a 5-run 5th inning broke the game open for Avon.
The Lakers came from behind to beat the Cubs 5-3 as Chad Weiss belted a 3-run double in the bottom of the 7th to rally Pierz to victory. Noah Cekalla fanned 12 over innings with Brady Petron getting the Save. Kyle Peterschick had a 3-hit game for Randall.

The Cubs snapped a 6-game losing streak with a 5-0 win over the Bears as Caleb Strack lost his bid for a no-hitter with 1 out in the 9th when Isaiah Folsom singled. The Skis stayed unbeaten with a 6-3 win in 11 innings over the Billygoats on Sunday. Back-to-back rbi doubles from Collin Kray and Zach Opatz, along with a run-scoring wild pitch in the top of the 11th provided the runs that Sobieski needed to improve to 10-0.
The Brewers beat the Steam 3-2 at Hellie Field as Peter Schommer tossed a Complete Game 5-hitter, striking out 6. At one point, Schommer retired 18 straight Aitkin hitters. Pierz scored the game winning run in the bottom of the 8th on a lead-off double by Mike Poser, a Peter Schommer bunt and an Aitkin throwing error.
The Lumberjacks edged the Billygoats 5-3, breaking a 3-3 tie in the 8th on a run-scoring wild pitch and an rbi single from Wyatt Ziwicki. Drew Beier picked up the Win with relief help from Chuck Hackett. Mitch Keeler belted a solo Homer and Chuck Hackett had 3 hits to lead Foley while Noah Boser, Joe Kahl and Travis Kahl had multi-hit games for the Billygoats.
The Rebels extended their winning streak to 7 games with a 10-6 win over the Bulldogs. Adam Jensen went 5 innings for the Win and Fort Ripley got 3 hits from Seth Vagts and a pair of doubles from Riley DeRosier in the victory.

The Pioneers season came to an end with an 8-3 loss to the Eagles at Putz Field in St. Cloud in a Section 6AA elimination game. A 7-run bottom of the 3rd inning for the Eagles proved to be too much for the Pioneers to overcome. The Pioneers finished the season with a record of 18-6.

The Fort Ripley Rebels edged the Pierz Lakers 3-2 on Sunday as Bill Sather drove in Nick Jelacie with a 2nd inning double and then Jelacie had a 2-run double of his own in the 3rd for Fort Ripley. The Lakers scored 2 runs in the 7th without the benefit of a hit and left the bases loaded. Brett Kramer came on to pitch in the 8th and although the Lakers threatened in both the 8th and 9th, Kramer nailed down the Save in the 3-2 victory.
The Pioneers fought off elimination from the Tournament by building a 5-0 lead against the Huskies and then holding on for a 5-3 victory. Frankie Seelen pitched 6 very solid innings for the Win and Alana Rocheleau and Lily Riley both had 2-hit games while Kiara Olesch and Kenna Otte belted doubles.

The Pioneers beat the Patriots 4-1as Max Barclay fanned 10 over 6 innings and allowed just 1 run and 3 hits to get the Win in his first career Varsity start. Pierz scored 3 in the 2nd on a bases loaded walk to Reese Young, a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly from Jeremy Bingesser. Jeremy Bingesser doubled in the 4th and scored on a Ben Virnig rbi single for the Pioneers final run.
The Pioneers closed out their regular season with a 17-0 win over the Cardinals as Frankie Seelen, Britney Schommer and Alyssa Sadlovsky combined on the 5-inning no-hitter. Brenna Dickmann led a 17-hit attack with a 4-hit game, Kendra Melby and Alana Rocheleau had 3-hit games as the Pioneers head into the Playoffs with a 16-3 record.
The Pioneers lost 2-1 to the Flyers when Matt Filippi led off the game with a Home Run and Hudson Filipppi added a 2-out rbi double in the 3rd to give Little Falls a 2-0 lead. Andy Winscher's 5th inning rbi single was the only run the Pioneers could manage off the pitching duo of Beau Thoma and Zach Gwost.
The Pioneers edged the Falcons 5-4 in a great ballgame in Foley. With the game tied 3-3 after 6, the Pioneers scored 2 in the top of the 7th on an error and a bases loaded walk to go ahead 5-3. Then in the bottom of the 7th, the Falcons scored 1 and left the bases loaded as Reese Young finished off the game with a strikeout.
The Pioneers celebrated Senior Day with a 12-0 win over the Silverstreaks. Kiara Olesch Homered in her first at-bat and later had an rbi single and Morgan Pohlkamp and Lily Riley also had 2-hit games. Alana Rocheleau and Britney Schommer each walked 3 times and scored twice Britney threw a Complete Game 4-hit shutout as the Pioneers improved to 14-3.
The Lightning beat the Riverdogs 7-3, using the long ball to do most of the damage. Aaron Jenkins hit a 3-run Homer, Matt Casperson belted a 2-run shot and Kody Ruedisili added a solo shot. Brady Brezinka had the Riverdogs lone hit.
The Lakers beat the Bluejays 6-1 on the night that Avon's new lights were debuted at Blattner Field. Riley Voit doubled home a run and added a sacrifice fly to drive in another and Matt Pichelmann threw 5 shutout innings for the Win.

The Bulldogs fell behind the Riverdogs 10-2 in the 4th inning and then scored 9 unanswered runs, including Mason Herold's 2-out, 2-run game winning single in the bottom of the 9th to cap off an improbable 11-10 win for Pierz over Royalton on Opening Day.
The Pioneers lost 7-2 to the undefeated Patriots in Pierz as they were unable to generate much offense against Kaitlyn Geschwill, who had thrown no-hitters in her last 3 games. She would have made it 4 in a row if not for a 1st inning single from Brenna Dickmann. A highlight for the Pioneers was 2 sparking defensive plays turned in by 2nd baseman Kenna Otte.
The Pioneers suffered their first loss of the season with a 9-3 loss to the Crusaders. Kiara Olesch, Brenna Dickmann and Kendra Melby had 2 hits each for the Pioneers but 6 errors in the field and 12 Crusaders hits proved too much to overcome.

Maddie Gaffke had a 2-run single and Britney Schommer got the Win with 2 innings of relief pitching while also adding an rbi single. Addison Pilarski went 3-3 with a Homer and 3 rbi's for the Huskers.
The Eskomos rained down a seemingly endless barrage of 3-pointers as they eliminated the Pioneers from the 7AA Playoffs with a 103-53 win.
The outstanding season for the Pioneers came to an end in the Section 7AA Championship with a 70-54 loss to the Patriots. Kiara Olesch and Alyssa Sadlovsky scored 15 points each and Katie Leidenfrost added 12 as the Pioneers end the season with a 23-6 record.
The Pioneers got off to a sluggish start with just a 17-14 lead at halftime, but then got things rolling better in the 2nd half and advanced in the Section 7AA Playoffs with a 54-37 win over the Golden Bears in Eveleth.
The Pioneers come out firing on all cylinders and build a big 1st half lead against the 2nd seeded Eskomos, then had to withstand a furious 2nd half rally from Esko, Although the Eskomos got as close as 3 in the 2nd half, the game was never tied and the Pioneers ended up winning wire-to-wire 48-42 to advance to the Section Championship game.
The Pioneers beat the Rangers 59-52 to advance to the Section 7AA Semifinals in Hermantown. Kiara Olesch led the way with 17 points, including making 10 consecutive free throws. Katie Leidenfrost was magnificent, scoring 15 points and playing tremendous defense and Alyssa Sadlovsky added 10 points, Kenna Otte and Ashley Kimman each had 6 and Britney Schommer scored 5 in the victory.
The Pioneers left the floor at halftime trailing in Milaca 43-29 but turned things around in the 2nd half and finally tied the game with :35 left on a pair of Andy Winscher free throws to force Overtime. In the extra session, Ian Oberfeld drilled an early 3-pointer to give Pierz the lead and they used that shot plus big free throws from Ben Virnig, Kirby Fischer, Winscher and Oberfeld for a 78-71 win. Andy Winscher poured in a career-high 21, Ben Virnig had 22 and Ian Oberfeld completed the trio of 20 point scorers with a 20 point game of his own.
The Pioneers pull off one of the biggest wins in recent memory with a 52-48 upset win over the Huskies on the road in the regular season finale. Ashley Kimman was a perfect 7-7 from the field, including thee 3-pointers for a 17 ponnt game, Kiara Olesch and Alyssa Sadlovsky each scored 9, Katie Leidenfrost had 8, Kenna Otte 5 and Britney Schommer added 4 as the Pioneers claimed the Granite Ridge Conference Traveling Trophy from Albany.
The Pioneers lost a close game to the Crusaders 55-50. The Pioneers held a 1 point lead with just over a minute left, but Cathedral rallied for the win. Ian Oberfeld led the Pioneers with 18 points, Zach Jones had 13 and Ben Virnig had 10. As a team, the Pioneers went a perfect 16-16 from the free throw line in the game.
The Pioneers rallied from 12 points down in the 2nd half, led by the pair of Seniors Katie Leidenfrost and Kiara Olesch, who both scored 20 points while Alyssa Sadlovsky had 13 and Ashley Kimman added 10 in the 71-63 win.

Carter Young opened his Tournament with a 6-2 win over Gavin Gould of St. Francis at 106. At 132, Chase Becker battled but eventually lost 8-5 to Cael Olson of Delano. At 145, Trevor Radunz made quick work of Alex Temple of Totino-Grace with a 1st period Fall.
The Pioneers beat the Gobbler 53-22 in the 1st round of the 7AA Playoffs behind 12 points from Kiara Olesch, and 11 points from both Katie Leidenfrost and Britney Schommer.
The #3 seeded Pioneers saw their Dual Meet season come to a close with a 46-24 loss to the #2 seeded Mustangs in Pine City. Carter Young got things going with a Fall at 106, Trevor Radunz won a 9-2 Decision at 145, Caleb Koch won by Fall at 170, Nathan Nash won his match at 182 by a 13-9 Decision and Daniel Hoffman won by Fall at 220.
The Pioneers roll past the Tigers 70-3 in the 1st round of the Section 7AA Team Tournament in Pine City. The #3 seeded Pioneers got wins by Fall from Kyle Stangl, Liam Hennessy, Jacob LeBlanc, Trevor Radunz, Caleb Koch, Wyatt Dingmann and Nathan Nash, Tech Fall wins by Carter Young and Derek Stangl, wins by Decision from Chase Becker and Frank Tomberlin and win by Forfeit for Daniel Hoffman and AJ Gerwing.
The Pioneers lose 56-47 to the Flyers. 3 starters eventually fouled out and another had to exit due to injury and that, combined with too many turnovers, allowed the Flyers to battle back for the victory.
The Pioneers beat the Flyers 59-27 behind a career-high 32 points from Alyssa Sadlovsky, which included a school-record setting performance of 3-pointers Made (9) and 3-pointers Attempted (18) in a Game!
The Pioneers drop a 49-44 road game at Osakis as their record falls to 16-6. Alyssa Sadlovsky leads the way with 16 points while Kiara Olesch adds 13 for Pierz.
The Pioneers are able to mount several comebacks during the game but eventually the Lakers come out on top at SCSU with a 72-62 win. Noah Oberfeld leads the Pioneers with 20, Ian Oberfeld has 16, Zach Jones 11, Ben Virnig 10 and Andy Winsher adds 5 points for Pierz.
The Pioneers celebrated Parents Night with a 57-22 win over the Mustangs. Alyssa Sadlovsky hit four 3-pointers on her way to a game-high 16 points and Ashley Kimman reached double figures with 11. The Pioneers improved to 16-5 overall and 9-2 in the Granite Ridge Conference with the victory.
The Pioneers battled hard, cutting a 14 point Albany lead down to 4 in the closing minutes but the Huskies eventually prevailed 65-58. Noah Oberfeld scored 24 to lead the Pioneers while a trio of Huskies scored in double figures.
The Pioneers win for the 15th time this season with a 53-31 victory over the Crusaders. Pierz grabbed a early lead and led from start to finish as they maintained sole possession of 2nd place in the Granite Ridge Conference. Kiara Olesch led the Pioneers with 15 points and Britney Schommer came off the bench to score 10.
The Pioneers are unable to solve a tough Mustangs defense as the lose 53-38 in Mora. Andy Winscher led the Pioneers with 11 points, Ben Virnig had 10 and Ian Oberfeld added 9.
The Pioneers closed out their Quad with a 54-21 win over the host Otters. Carter Young, Liam Hennessy, Brayden Melby, Trevor Radunz and Nathan Nash won by Fall, Derek Stangl won by Tech Fall, Chase Becker won a Major Decision, Frank Tomberlin won a decision and Daniel Hoffman and AJ Gerwing won by Forfeit. The only Overtime match of the entire night involved Derrick Przybilla, who lost a thriller in Sudden Victory in the 160 match.
The Pioneers 2nd Dual in Fergus Falls saw them face the 4th ranked team in Class AA and the Road Crew showed why they'll be one of the favorites to win Section 8AA and advance to State as they beat the Pioneers 58-14. Kyle Stangl earned a 7-6 decision and a Fall for Liam Hennessy would give Pierz a 9-6 lead after 3 matches but they would only be able to add a Tech Fall win from Trevor Radunz at 145. One other good match that didn't go the Pioneers way was Chase Becker losing a real battle to Owen Carlson at 132 by a 10-7 score.
The Pioneers got their night at the Fergus Falls Quad started with a 51-27 win over Sauk Centre/Melrose. Liam Hennessy won by Fall and Carter Young won a 9-2 decision while the Pioneers picked up Forfeit wins for Kyle Stangl, Chase Becker, Trevor Radunz, Frank Tomberlin, Derrick Przybilla, Caleb Koch and Nathan Nash.
The Pioneers used a 10-0 scoring run late in the 2nd half to rally for a 59-55 over the Falcons. Zach Jones led Pierz with 14 while Ian Oberfeld had 12, Noah Oberfeld 9, Andy Winscher 8, Ben Virnig 8, Joey Stuckmayer 5 and Caden Knutson had 3.
The Pioneers battled their way to a 47-43 win over the Wolves to complete a season sweep of their Granite Ridge Conference rivals. Alyssa Sadlovsky hit some clutch shots and finished with a team-high 15 points while Kenna Otte scored 12 and Kiara Olesch added 10 for the Pioneers, who improved to 13-4 with the win.
The Pioneers came back from being down by 10 in the 2nd half to beat the Wolves 63-61 to snap a 7-game losing streak and earn their first Granite Ridge Conference victory. Zach Jones led the way with 22 points while Ben Virnig added a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds.
The Pioneers jump out to a 39-0 lead and go on to defeat the Falcons 45-29 at the MAC. The Pioneers fell behind 10-0 to begin the game but kept battling back al night. Pierz trailed Zimmerman 27-16 at halftime and kept inching closer and closer. With just over 1 minute left, a pair of free throws by Ian Oberfeld finally tied the game at 52-52. Then over the span of the final 60 seconds, it got crazy with a wrong-basket, a failed dunk, and a near-miss on what would have been a game tying 3-pointer as the buzzer sounded as the Pioneers fell by a final score of 57-54.
The Pioneers beat the Thunder 69-62 for their 6th straight win behind a career-high 19 points and 11 rebounds from Ashley Kimman and 12 points, 13 rebounds and 8 assists from Kiara Olesch and valuable contributions from everybody as Pierz stayed in sole possession of 1st Place in the Granite Ridge Conference.
The Pioneers earn a dramatic, hard-fought 49-48 victory over the Rangers behind a 17 point game from Kiara Olesch, solid team defense and a game-tying basket from Ashley Kimman with just under 1:30 left and then Alyssa Sadlovsky hit the go-ahead free throw with :23 remaining as the Pioneers won their 4th straight game and improved to 11-3 overall.
The Pioneers fell 79-73 to the Flyers as Little Falls used a surge midway through the 1st half to take a 15 point lead at halftime. Little Falls expanded their lead to 20 halfway through the 2nd half but the Pioneers nearly rallied, closing to within 6 points in the final seconds. Freshman Noah Oberfeld scored a career-best 30 for Pierz while Little Falls got a career night from Jaxon Janski with a 23 point game.
The Pioneers remained unbeaten in the Granite Ridge Conference with a 63-27 win over the Flyers. The Pioneers nailed 11 3-pointers and got career-high scoring games from Alyssa Sadlovsky with 20 and Kenna Otte with 13. Claire VanRisseghem led Little Falls with 12 points.

The Pioneers pass another road test with flying colors as they travel to Pine City and defeat a good Dragons team 59-48 to improve to 4-0, with 3 of those victories coming on the road Kiara Olesch nearly had a triple-double with 12 points, 10 rebounds and 9 assists. Lyndsey Strohmeier scored all 11 of her points in the 2nd half and Alyssa Sadlovsky had her best all-around game with 10 points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals.

Running Back's Trevor Radunz, Jacob LeBlanc and Reese Young each gained at least 100 yards, kicker Linus Heidemann established a new Pierz school record for "points by a Kicker in a Game" with 11 when he nailed 3 Field Goals and added 2 extra-points and the defense forced 2 critical turnovers and shut out the Tigers overthe final 3 quarters as Pierz advances to their 9th consecutive Section Championship game.
The Pioneers season came to an end with a 3-0 loss to the Dutchmen in the Section 6AA Playoffs by scores of 25-22, 25-21 and 25-6.
The Pioneers beat the Lakers 48-18 in their first round game, using a punishing ground game that amassed 416 yards and 7 touchdowns. Leading the way was Sophomore RB Reese Young with a career-high 207 yards and 3 scores.

The Pioneers edged the Dutchmen 26-20 in Week 6 when Andy Winscher scored with just :09 left in the game. Both Trevor Radunz and Jacob LeBlanc eclipsed 100 yards rushing and combined for 3 touchdowns as the Pioneers improved to 5-1.
The Pioneers rally from down 2-1 to defeat the Crusaders 3-2 in St. Cloud in an electrifying match to upset the Granite Ridge Conference co-leaders on their home court. Game scores were 25-23, 23-25, 18-25, 25-22, 15-13. It was a complete team effort that Coach Fischer referred to afterwards as the most satisfying victory in her tenure as Head Coach.

The Pioneers earned a hard-fought Week 5 victory with a 25-22 win at Big Cat Stadium in Morris over the Tigers. Linus Heidemann booted a pair of 26-yard field goals, Reese Young and Zach Jones rushed for touchdowns Trevor Radunz came up with 3 turnovers, including a pick-six in the 1st quarter and a late game interception in the endzone to stop a MACA rally. Kirby Fischer added a pick of his own and Mitchell Smude's fumble recovery deep in Pierz territory with time running out allowed the Pioneers to kneel out the clock for their 4th win.
The Pioneers played their most complete match of the season with a 3-0 sweep over the Wolves by scores of 25-20, 25-15 and 25-21. The Pioneers were clicking in all phases of the game with a varied offensive attack and a defense that was making all the right reads.
The Pioneers edged the Huskers 3-2 in an epic 5-set match in Holdingford. The Pioneers took the first two sets 25-23 and 25-14, only to see the Huskers battle back with wins of 25-23 and 25-20 to force a decisive 5th set. Holdingford took an early lead in the 5th but Pierz surged ahead to finish off the Huskers with a 15-7 victory.
The Pioneers get touchdowns from Kirby Fischer and Zach Jones but the Rockets are able to pull off the upset of Class AAA's #1 ranked team with a 20-12 victory on Homecoming and Hall of Fame Night in Pierz.
The Pioneers won their second match of the week with a 3-1 road victory at Little Falls by scores of 25-18, 24-26, 25-12, 25-18. Serving was a major component in the Pioneers win with a team serving percentage of 96% (86-90), led by Kiara Olesch going 31-31 with 7 aces, Katie Leidenfrost was 20-20 with 2 aces. and Peyton Magney was 13-13.
The Pioneers broke open a 6-6 game at halftime with 28 unanswered points to beat the Thunder Hawks 34-6 in Week 3. Reese Young exploded for 185 yards rushing, including touchdown runs of 55 and 74 yards and also brought the 2nd half kickoff back 79 yards for a score. Zach Jones scored on a 25 yard run in the 2nd quarter and Jacob LeBlanc capped the scoring with a fine 23 yard run in the 4th quarter.

The Pioneers post their second straight shutout to begin the 2021 season with a 41-0 victory over the Lakers at the Home Opener for Pierz. Trevor Radunz ran for 2 touchdowns, Kirby Fischer added a rushing touchdown and a punt return for touchdown and Zach Jones and Mitchell Smude also found the end zone. Reese Young went 5-6 on extra-point kicks and also had an interception while Kolby Brezinka recovered a fumble.

The Skis capture the State Title in thrilling fashion by scoring 3 times in the top of the 11th to defeat the Red Devils 3-0 in Waconia. Collin Eckman drove in Alex Gwost with a single, Beau Hanowski scored on a wild pitch and Ben Hanowski slammed an rbi double to provide the runs that Sobieski needed to break the 0-0 tie. State Tournament MVP Caleb Strack pitched a Complete Game shutout for his 4th Win of the Tournament and his 3rd Complete Game shutout to lock up the Skis 2nd State Title in 7 years.
The Skis beat the Black Sox 9-6 to advance to the Class C State Championship. Beau Hanowski drove in 4 runs and Jake Kapphahn drove in 3, including a solo Homer. Ethan Branum worked 8 2/3 for the Win, with Chad Weiss getting the Save. Skis catcher Riley Hirsch picked a runner of 2nd for the final out of the game as the Black Sox were set to bring the potential tying run to the plate.

Caleb Strack hurled his second Complete Game shutout of the State Tournament as the Skis blanked the Saints 5-0 in a Sweet 16 game in Waconia. Strack allowed just 2 hits and struck out 11. Jake Kapphahn had 2 hits, including an rbi double that produced the first run of the game, Josh Wenzel doubled, walked, was hit by a pitch, stole 2 bases and scored 3 times for Sobieski. With the victory, the Skis advance to the Class C State Quarterfinals.
The Pioneers opened the 2021 season with a 20-0 win over the Huskers in a game played in rainy conditions in Sauk Centre. Kirby Fischer scored on a 1st quarter run of 39 yards to put Pierz ahead 6-0. The Pioneers then added another 2 touchdowns in the final 5 minutes of the game on a 66 yard pass from Andy Winscher to Zach Jones and a 17 yard run from Kirby Fischer for the 20-0 final.

The Lakers fall 8-1 to the Red Devils in a 2nd round game in Chaska at the 2021 Class C State Tournament. Cody Stich had a pair of hits and Ryan Janzen scored the lone run for Avon in the season-ending loss.

Austin Dickmann fired the 2-hit shutout and Aaron Weber belted a 2-run Homer, Matt Kummet and Andrew Rueckert drove in 2 runs each and Noah Boser went 3-3 with a Home Run and scored 5 runs.

Playing their 3rd game in about 12 hours and their 6th game in 6 days, the Pierz American Legion Baseball team bowed out of the Playoffs with a 15-7 loss to the Tri Town Black Sox in Atwater on Sunday. Pierz took an early 5-0 lead but just seemed to run out of gas in the 90+ degree heat as Tri Town advanced to the State Tournament.
Pierz drops Game 2 of the Sub-State Championship series to Tri Town by a score of 9-0 as ace lefty Josh Kingery blanked Pierz on just 1 hit, a Ben Virnig single in the 2nd inning.
The Pierz American Legion Baseball team took Game 1 of their series with the Tri Town Black Sox 10-8 as Kirby Fischer got the Win with 5 solid innings of work on the mound and relief help from Ryan Stuckmayer. Pierz used a 5-run bottom of the 4th to break a 5-5 tie. Noah Cekalla singled and doubled to drive in 3 runs, Michael Leidenfrost swiped 4 bases and scored 3 runs, Kolten Happke had 2 hits and Kamden Happke drove in a pair of runs with 2 perfect bunts.

Pierz used a 3-run bottom of the 3rd and a 4-run bottom of the 5th to secure the win and advance to the next round. Michael Leidenfrost, Ryan Stuckmayer and Louis Gruber had 2-hit games for Pierz.
Pierz evened the best 2-out-of-3 series with Litchfield with a 4-2 over Litchfield at Optimist Park on Thursday. Noah Cekalla went innings to get the Win and Ben Virnig worked the last 2 frames to earn the Save. Ryan Stuckmayer had 2 hits including a double and scored a run, and Ben Virnig and Andy Winscher had hits and each drove in a run.
Pierz lost 7-5 to Litchfield in Game 1 in a Best 2-out--of-3 series at Hellie Field. Litchfield scored the first 7 runs of the game but Pierz came back with 4 in 5th and 1 in the 7th but couldn't continue the comeback. Chandler Doucette and Reese Young had 2-hit games for Pierz.

The Pioneers and Thunder wage an epic back-and-forth battle over 11 innings in the second game of their doubleheader. Trailing 8-6 with 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th, the Thunder get a base hit and a Homer to tie the game at 8-8, then finally win it 9-8 with a run in the bottom of the 11th!

The Pioneers staged a big late-game rally to beat the Huskies 5-3 in Pierz. After Albany took a 3-0 lead in the 3rd, the Pioneers tied it in the 5th on a 2-run Homer by Emily Sadlovsky and an rbi double by Liz Kelash. The Pioneers took the lead in the last of the the 6th on a run-scoring double by Kelsie Cummings and a pinch-hit sacrifice fly by Kendra Melby. Albany got the potential tying run on base in the 7th but relief pitcher Emily Sadlovsky ended the game by getting a ground out to Kiara Olesch at shortstop as the Pioneers improved to 7-0.
The Pioneers trailed 3-2 to the Crusaders heading into the bottom of the 5th, then scored 4 runs to grab the lead for good. Noah Cekalla singled home the tying run, then a 2-run single by Jeremy Bingesser gave the Pioneers a 5-3 lead and the final run came on a Cathedral error. Ben Virnig threw 3 shutout innings to earn the Win out of the bullpen and Jeremy Bingesser was 3-3 with 3 rbi's.
The Pioneers drop a close 3-2 game to the Falcons in Pierz on a chilly Monday night. The Falcons scored all 3 of their runs in the top of the 1st and Foley lefty Ryan Chmielewski made that stand up, going the distance with 11 strikeouts. Pierz got both their runs in the 3rd on an rbi double by Noah Cekalla and a sacrifice fly by Jeremy Bingesser.
The Pioneers erupted for 8 runs in the 3rd inning and another runs in the 4th inning to cruise past the Cardinals 15-0 to improve to 5-0 this year. Emily Sadlovsky threw a 2-hitter with 4 strikeouts and Kiara Olesch belted a Homer and a 2-run double to lead an 11-hit attack for Pierz.
The Pioneers win their 3rd straight game with a 17-0 rout of the Mustangs. Noah Cekalla fanned 9 over 4 innings while allowing just 2 hits to get the Win. Pierz scored 7 runs in both the 3rd and 4th innings to put the game away.

The Black Sox won their Season Opener with a 10-8 victory over the Brewers at Hellie Field. Freeport scored 7 times in the 6th inning to go ahead 9-3 then had to hold on as the Brewers scored 4 times in the 8th and brought the potential tying run to the plate in the bottom of the 9th.
In the Season Opener for both teams, the Bulldogs edged the Saints 5-4 at Hellie Field when Kirby Fischer scored from 2nd base on an error in the bottom of the 9th. Chuck Boser, Louis Gruber and Chase Becker had 2-hit games for the Bulldogs. Peter Schumer had 3 hits including a double for the Saints. Andy Leidenfrost tossed a Complete Game to get the Win.
The Pioneers improve to 2-0 with an 11-1 win in 6 innings over the Crusaders. Perz broke it open with an 8-run bottom of the 2nd as they belted 3 Homers in the inning, beginning with back-to-back blasts from Emily Dehler and Tori Wagner and then later a 2-run shot by Erika Dickmann. Tori Wagner allowed just 3 hits while striking out 5 to earn her first Win of the season.

The Class AA Individual State Wrestling Tournament was held at St. Michael-Albertville High School with Trevor Radunz of Pierz in a Quarterfinal match, as well as 4 members of the Foley Falcons.
The Pioneers season came to a close against the #1 seeded Huskies with a 60-37 loss in the Section 6AA Semifinals. Courtney Strohmeier led Pierz with 11 points while Emily Dehler finished with 10 as the Pioneers end their year with a 14-6 record. Three of those losses came to Albany.

This first segment features 1st round matches for the 5 Pioneers that advanced to Foley in the Class AA State Prelims. Derek Stangl, Liam Hennessy, Trevor Radunz, Jacob Leblanc and Ross Boser take to the mats in the Field House.
The Pioneers season came to an end on Friday night as the 3rd Rebels handed 6th seeded Pierz a 59-58 loss in the Section 7AA Quarterfinals. After MLWR took a 10 point lead early the 2nd half, the Pioneers rallied to tie the game with about 13 minutes left and it was a wild finish the rest of the way with the lead changing hands numerous times. The Pioneers potential game-winning shot with :01 left bounced off the rim as the final buzzer sounded.
The 6th seeded Pioneers opened the Section 7AA Playoffs with a convincing 73-45 victory over the 11th seeded Blue Devils as all 5 Pierz starters scored in double figures, led by Jonah Prokott's season-best 25 point effort.
The Pioneers cruised to a 66-22 win over the Tigers in a first round game at the MAC. Everyone got into the game for Pierz and the scoring leaders were Courtney Strohmeier with 14, Kiara Olesch with 12, and Emily Sadlovsky and Emily Dehler with 10 points each.
The Pioneers closed out their regular season with a 57-39 win over the Cardinals, finishing with a 5-game winning streak and a 12-5 overall record. Kiara Olesch scored a season-high 15 points and Courtney Strohmeier added another 14 points to lead Pierz.
The Pioneers used a 13-0 scoring run in the 2nd half to defeat the Falcons 41-36 in front of a Parents Night crowd in Pierz. Courtney Strohmeier led Pierz with 12 points while Kiara Olesch added 10.
The Pioneers are unable to overcome a cold start and fall 65-61 to the Thunder in their final regular season road game of the year. Michael Leidenfrost scored a season-high 19 points, with Ryan Stuckmayer adding 14 and Noah Cekalla scoring 10 points.
The short-handed Pioneers lose 59-57 to the Falcons on a last second shot by Foley's Ryan Piepgras. Due to Covid contact tracing, only the 8 Seniors on the Pioneers were available in this game, leaving the Pioneers without 1 starter and their top 3 reserves. Ryan Stuckmayer nailed 6 three-pointers on his way to a 24 point night to lead Pierz.
The Pioneers lost 68-54 to the Patriots on the road to fall to 10-5 overall. After trailing 37-28 at halftime, the Pioneers closed the gap to 43-40 in the first 5 minutes of the 2nd half, only to see the Patriots go on a 16-0 scoring run to seize control of the ballgame. 4 Pioneers scored in double figures, led by Ryan Stuckmayer's 15 points.
The Pioneers fall behind early and can never recover as they lose 67-42 against the undefeated Mustangs. Noah Cekalla leads Pierz with 13 while Ryan Stuckmayer adds 11 for the Pioneers.
The Pioneers improve to 9-5 with a 55-40 win over the Bulldogs on Senior Night. Courtney Strohmeier led the way with 17 points while Alissa Girtz and Emily Sadlovsky scored 11 points each. Karley Loven paced Swanville with 11 points.
The Pioneers returned to their winning ways with a 57-30 win over the Mustangs. The Pioneers offense was very balanced, led by Emily Sadlovsky's 10 points, with Katie Leidenfrost and Emily Dehler scoring 9 each, Alissa Girtz and Kiara Olesch each scored 8 and Courtney Strohmeier added 7. Rounding out the scoring were Britney Schommer with 4 and Madison Gall with 2.
The Pioneers fall 76-70 in Double Overtime to the Huskies. Albany's Isaiah Gerads hit a 3-pointer with :03.5 left in regulation to tie it at 63-63, then both teams scored 2 point in the first Overtime to send it to the second Overtime tied at 65-65. Ben Virnig led 5 Pioneers in double figures with 15 points as the Pioneers played their 2nd straight Overtime game of the week.
The Pioneers come back from a second half double digit deficit to beat the Rangers 69-63 in Overtime at Crosby-Ironton High School. Ryan Stuckmayer scored a career-best 21 points to lead 4 Pioneers in double figures as Pierz improved to 10-2 overall with their 7th straight victory.
The Pioneers lost 53-24 to the Cardinals as Derek Stangl, Liam Hennessy, Daniel Hoffman and Carter Geise provided all the team points with 4 wins by Fall.
The Pioneers rolled past the Thunderbirds 55-24 in a dual in Alexandria. Chase Becker, Liam Hennessy, Frank Tomberlin and Carter Geise won by Fall, Derek Stangl won by Major Decision and Derrick Pryzbilla won a Decision while Trevor Radunz, Brayden Melby, Ross Boser and Grant Kuske won by Forfeit.
The Pioneers dropped a 51-40 decision to the Crusaders in St. Cloud. Kiara Olesch led the way with 14 points while Courtney Strohmeier added 10 for the Pioneers, who fell to 7-4 overall.
The Pioneers made it 5 victories in a row with a 54-44 win over the Flyers. The Pioneers shot 89% from the free throw line in the 2nd half (17-19) to hold off any comeback attempts by Little Falls. Noah Cekalla led Pierz with 15, Ryan Stuckmayer had 12 and Jonah Prokott added 10 for the 8-2 Pioneers. Luke Kush led the 5-6 Flyers with 20 points.
The Pioneers battle to the end but the 2nd ranked Huskies prove to be too much as they hand the Pioneers 53-41 defeat at the MAC. Emily Dehler led Pierz with 17 points while Kiara Olesch added 9points and pulled down 10 rebounds.
The Pioneers won their 4th consecutive game with a 76-37 win over the Wolves. Ryan Stuckmayer led another balanced attack with 18 points, Michael Leidenfrost had 14 and Jonah Prokott added 13 as the Pioneers improved to 7-2.
The Pioneers raced out to an 11-0 lead to start the game and used that quick start to build a 57-32 win over the Wolves as Pierz improved to 7-2 with their 3rd straight win.
The Pioneers play exceedingly well in the first half to build a 13 point lead, then have to fight off a 2nd half rally by the Crusaders to win 62-58 to sweep the season series. Noah Cekalla had his second straight 19 point night to lead Pierz.
The Pioneers jumped out to a 10-0 lead to start the game and never trailed as they downed the Falcons 55-36 in Granite Ridge Conference action. Emily Sadlovsky led the way with 17 points while Courtney Strohmeier added 11 as the Pioneers improved to 6-2 overall and 5-2 in the Conference.

The Pioneers and the Eagles met in Little Falls as part of a Triangular and it was as close a dual as could be. After Daniel Hoffman's Fall at 220 gave the Pioneers a 36-33 lead, the Eagles got a close 1-0 win at Hvywt to tie the score at 36-36. The Eagles would be declared the winner by criteria to win 37-36.
The Pioneers fall 67-56 to the Thunder in a battle of 4-1 teams. Courtney Strohmeier scored 17 to lead Pierz while Emily Dehler scored 13 and Kiara Olesch added 10.

The Pioneers battled right to the end against the 3rd ranked Huskies, trimming Albany's double-digit lead down to 1 with just under 7 minutes to play, but were never able to sustain the comeback as the Huskies prevailed 56-45 over the Pioneers. Three players scored in double figures for Pierz, led by Emily Dehler with 13, Emily Sadlovsky had 11 and Courtney Strohmeier had 10.

The Pioneers got a late-game touchdown run from Michael Burggraff and a conversion run by Mitchell Smude. The Pioneers end the year with a record of 7-1 while Albany finishes off a perfect 8-0 year.
The Pioneers lost 3-0 to the Huskers by scores of 15-25, 24-26, 18-25. Maddie Poster was 14-14 serving with 4 aces, Emily Sadlovsky had 18 digs, Ashley Kimman led the team with 9 kills and Kiara Olesch dished out 10 assists.
Michael Leidenfrost carries the ball 30 times for 154 yards and 3 touchdowns while Noah Cekalla fires a 35 yard scoring strike to Zach Jones as the Pioneers defeat the Crusaders 28-19 in the 1st Round of the 6AAA Playoffs.
The Pioneers closed out the regular season with a 33-13 win over the Thunder Hawks in a game played at Minnewaska Area High School. The 20-point margin of victory is highly misleading as the game was tied 13-13 heading into the 4th quarter. It took 3 touchdowns in the final 12 minutes for the Pioneers to pull away. Michael Leidenfrost had a huge game rushing for 139 yards and 3 touchdowns while catching a Noah Cekalla scoring pass and returning a kickoff for a score to account for all 5 Pierz touchdowns.
Fresh off a 12 day layoff, the Pioneers battled their way to a 3-2 win over the Wolves in Milaca by scores of 23-25, 25-19, 25-17, 23-25, 15-7. The victory improves the Pioneers record to 3-4.
The Pioneers beat the Rockets 32-13 in a Week 5 matchup behind Michael Leidenfrost's 135 yards rushing and 3 touchdowns, along with Ross Boser's 75 yards and a score. Noah Cekalla found Zach Jones for a 53 yard touchdown as well. On the defensive side of the ball, the secondary had 3 picks with Trevor Radunz nabbing 2 and Kamden Happke collecting the other, while Pierz also recovered 2 Rockets fumbles. Overall, the Pioneers limited the Rockets offense to under 100 yards of total offense.
The Pioneers use an 8 yard touchdown run with just over 1 minute remaining and then get a game-ending interception by Kolten Happke to seal a hard-earned 14-6 win over the Lakers in Brainerd. The Pioneers struck first with a 25 yard touchdown pass from Noah Cekalla to Zach Jones at the end of the 1st quarter.
The Pioneers lost 3-0 to a strong Huskies squad by scores of 23-25, 13-25, 22-25 in a match filled with powerful hitting, precision passing, timely blocking and extremely solid defensive play.

The Pioneers swept the Thunder 3-0 in Granite Ridge Conference action by scores of 25-8, 25-18 and 25-21 for their 2nd straight victory.

The Rockies slug their way to a 12-8 win over the Billygoats in the 2nd Round of the State Tournament in Springfield. Austin Dufner tied a State record with 3 Homer's and drove in 7 runs, yet Buckman kept chipping away and had the tying run at the plate with 2 outs in the 9th when Noah Boser drove a ball to the warning track in right to end the game.
The Cubs lose 11-0 to the Braves in the 2nd Round of the State Tournament in Milroy, mustering just 2 hits, a single from Brett Strack in the 6th and a 7th inning double from Alec Zack.
The Rebels lost 8-1 to a very talented Buffalo team in the first round of the 2020 State Tournament in Milroy on Saturday. Jason Sather went 2-4 with a double and drove in the Rebels only run with a 6th inning single to score Brian Skluzacek. Bill Sather and Rhett Williamson were each 1-4 with a double while Mac Brink and Nick Jelacie had the other hits for Fort Ripley.
The Lakers bowed out of the 2020 State Tournament with a 13-7 loss to the Bulldogs in Milroy on Saturday. Matt Meyer went 4-5 and scored twice, Caleb Curry was 2-4 with a 2-run double, Riley Voit had 3 hits including a double and an rbi, Cole Fuecker was 2-4 with 2 rbi and Bjorn Hanson was 2-4 with 2 walks, an rbi and scored twice, but even with all that firepower, it wasn't enough as Union Hill knocked out 18 hits and scored in every inning except the 1st, 4th and 9th.
The Randall Cubs pull off a stunning comeback win in their first State Tournament appearance in 26 years with a 4-3 victory over the Hadley Buttermakers in Milroy. Trailing 3-0 with 2 outs and the bases empty in the 8th, the Cubs scored on an error and a Matt Otremba rbi single to make it 3-2. In the 9th, Kyle Peterschick's 2-out double brought home Brett Strack with the tying run and Travis Wenzel's base hit then drove in Peterschick with the go-ahead run. In the bottom of the 9th, Hadley loaded the bases, but Travis Wenzel ended the game by striking out the Buttermakers #5 hitter to finish it!

Ryan Stuckmayer and Isaac Otte had rbi singles and Eric Boser scored on a wild pitch to provide the scoring. The Bulldogs left the tying run at 3rd and the winning run at 2nd to end the game.

The Pioneers roared to an 88-60 win over the Blue Devils at the University of Minnesota-Duluth in the Section 7AA Semifinals. Pierz took control early, leading 41-19 at halftime, and was never seriously threatened by Virginia. The victory advances the Pioneers to a Section Championship game for the first time since 1995.
The Pioneers win their Section 7AA Quarterfinal game over the #2 seed Rebels by a 78-65 score at the University of Minnesota-Duluth. After a back-and-forth 1st half, the Pioneers held a 34-29 lead. They would never trail after that, led by Peter Schommer's 20 point game, Michael Leidenfrost with 16 and Jonah Prokott with 12.
The Pioneers rode a 47-point 2nd half to beat the Rangers 81-67 in the first round of the Section 7AA Playoffs. After the game was tied 34-34 at halftime, the trio of Peter Schommer, Michael Leidenfrost and Jonah Prokott combined to account for all 47 of those points. Schommer and Prokott scored 24 each and Leidenfrost had a career-best 23.
Gabe Nagel of the Little Falls Flyers goes after his 2nd straight undefeated season with a Class AAA 170 lb Championship match at the Xcel Energy Center. Standing in Gabe's way is Waconia Freshman Max McEnelly, who brings his 55-1 record into the Title match.
The 7th seeded Pioneers defeated the 10th seeded Sting 70-39 in the opening round of the Section 6AA Tournament. Emily Sadlovsky scored a career high 20 points to lead Pierz while Kylie Waytashek added 15. It was the first home playoff game and first playoff win for the Pierz Girls since the 2010-11 season.

The Pioneers built a 46-34 halftime lead at SCSU over the Lakers, based in large part on the strong play off the bench by Andy Winscher, Zach Jones and JT Pawlu. But in the 2nd half, HLWW got their offense going and eventually sent the Pioneers to their 3rd straight loss with an 86-78 victory.
The Pioneers dropped a 75-60 decision to the Wolves in Pierz. Jonah Prokott led 4 Pioneers in double figures with 16 points while Cody Kimman and Peter Schommer had 11 each and Robbie Schaefer scored 10.

The Pioneers fall 42-32 at home to the Albany Huskies, keeping the game close by utilizing a strategy of patience and careful shot selection, combined with an extremely solid effort on the defensive side of the ball. Emily Sadlovsky and Kylie Waytashek scored 9 points each to lead Pierz. Paige Meyer scored 15 to lead Albany.
The Pioneers fell behind the Falcons 8-0 and just could never catch up as the Pioneers dropped a 60-40 decision to their Granite Ridge Conference rivals. Amaya Rocheleau scored 8 points to lead Pierz while Anna Taylor and Emily Sadlovsky scored 7 each.
The Pioneers defeat the Falcons 64-47 to improve to 17-5 on the season, led by Robbie Schaefer's 15 points, 12 from Jonah Prokott and 10 from Brandon Stuckmayer. However, the biggest cheers of the night were reserved for Zach Traut, who knocked down back-to-back 3-pointers late in the game.
The Pioneers Dual season comes to an end with a 53-21 loss at Pine River-Backus High School to the #2 seeded Pequot Lakes/Pine River-Backus Road Crew. Trevor Radunz and Mason Zajac win by Fall, while Brandon Funk, Tanner Young and Brandon Schlegel earn Decisions.
The Pioneers manage to escape out of Long Prairie with a 41-36 victory over the Thunder. Mariah Olesch leads the Pioneers with 10 points as Pierz posts their 4th straight win.
In this edition of Senior Spotlight, we get to visit with Anna Taylor! Anna and her family moved into the Pierz School District before her Sophomore year and she tells us about what the move has meant for her. Also, Anna discusses her love of travel and some of the places she's been and places she'd love to go. Anna also talks about her enjoyment with being a part of the cast of Cinderella, the school musical. I'm sure you'll enjoy getting to know another Pierz Senior, Anna Taylor on a Senior Spotlight!
The Pioneers were playing catch-up all night long, trailing the Crusaders 10-0 just 90 seconds into the game and found themselves down 34-21 at halftime. But slowly and surely the Pioneers kept battling and eventually tied the game at 48-48. But with less than 2 minutes left, St. Cloud Cathedral had pulled back in front 61-51. Trailing 66-63 with less than :04 left, Peter Schommer was fouled, making the first free throw to make it 66-64 and then intentionally missing the second. Schommer got his own rebound, and after a brief discussion by the referees, it was determined that Pierz would inbound the ball, trailing 66-64. The inbounds pass came to Ryan Stuckmayer, who fired up a 3-point attempt from in front of the Pierz bench. The shot missed, but Ryan was fouled on the attempt and was awarded 3 free throw attempts with just over :01 left. He made the 1st to make it 66-65, then made the 2nd to tie it at 66-66. And with a deafening crowd providing the backdrop, Ryan calmly drained the 3rd free throw as well to give Pierz their 1st lead of the night at 67-66. A desperation heave by the Crusaders was off target as the final horn sounded and the Pioneers had secured one of their most exciting wins in recent memory.
The Pioneers used a strong second half to defeat the Crusaders 58-48 at the MAC. After trailing by 1 at halftime, the Pioneers outscored the Crusaders 33-22 in the 2nd half to earn the victory. Kylie Waytashek led the way with 17 while both Mariah Olesch and Emily Sadlovsky added 11 each.
The Pioneers earned a key win in Section 7AA with a 79-68 victory over the Huskies. That win was the 7th in a row for Pierz, who got a game-high 19 from Peter Schommer, 16 from Jonah Prokott, 13 from Brandon Stuckmayer and 10 from Michael Leidenfrost.

The Pioneers won their 6th straight game as they defeated the Falcons 65-46 to improve to 14-4. The Pioneers celebrated Senior Night with the 5 Seniors, Peter Schommer, Brandon Stuckmayer, Cody Kimman, Robbie Schaefer and Zach Traut starting the game.
The Pioneers won their 5th straight game with a 58-49 victory over the Flyers. Peter Schommer led the way with 18, Michael Leidenfrost had 14, Jonah Prokott 12 and Ryan Stuckmayer 9 for Pierz while Alex Gwost of Little Falls tallied 22 to lead all scorers.
The Pioneers downed the Flyers 54-24 as three players scored in double figures, led by Kylie Waytashek with 13, Courtney Strohmeier 12 and Kiara Olesch with 11.
The Pioneers lose 41-30 to the Sabres but actually win 5 of the 8 matches that were wrestled. Trevor Radunz, Brandon Schlegel and Daniel Hoffman won by Fall, Tanner Young and Riley Hoskins won Decisions and Derek Stangl won by Forfeit.
The Pioneers turned a lackluster 19-point first half into a 48-points second half as they defeated the Thunder 67-57at the MAC. It was the 4th straight victory for the Pioneers, who were led by Peter Schommer's 23 points, vaulting him into 3rd Place on the school's All Time scoring list. Jonah Prokott posted 17 points and 10 rebounds as well for Pierz.
The Pioneers defeat the Huskers 63-38 behind a 20-point, 10 rebound performance from Peter Schommer and a career-high 15 points off the bench from Ryan Stuckmayer. Jake Ethen paced the Huskers with 15.
You Are There Sports Rick Grammond interviews Dylan Pittman, who was recently named the new Head Coach of the Pierz Pioneers Baseball Team. Dylan takes over from Dan Saehr and inherits a very talented team heading into the upcoming season.
The Pioneers fall 70-58 against the Crusaders to end a 5-game winning streak. Michael Leidenfrost led Pierz with 12, while Peter Schommer and Brandon Stuckmayer add 11 points each.

The Pioneers trailed the Rangers by 20 points with less than a minute to go in the 1st half but gained some confidence when they scored 6 straight points to trail by 14 at the break 31-17. In the 2nd half, Courtney Strohmeier fueled a huge comeback by hitting six 3-pointers as the Pioneers came all the way back to take a 51-50 lead with under 5 minutes left! The Rangers would regain the lead, but with :06 left and trailing 62-61, the Pioneers had the ball and a chance to win. However a late turnover, a Pierz foul and 2 Rangers free throws gave Crosby-Ironton a 64-61 thrilling win.
The Pioneers edge the Flyers 68-64 to earn their 4th straight win as Peter Schommer scores 26 while the tandem of Cody Kimman and Robbie Schaefer each score 12. Alex Gwost paces the Flyers with 23 points while Luke Kush adds 17.
The Dutchmen hand the Pioneers a 56-45 defeat in a game played at St. John's University. Emily Dehler scored a season-high 15 points and added 13 rebounds to lead the Pioneers, but it was a 30 point game from Melrose star Makiya Luetmer that proved to be too much to overcome.
After a lengthy layoff of the Holidays, the Pioneers got the 2020 portion of their schedule off to a good start with a 59-38 win over the Bombers to improve to 6-3. Emily Sadlovsky scored a game-high 14 points, and Alissa Girtz had her most productive game of the season, pouring in a season-best 13 points, all in the second half, as the Pioneers began to stretch their lead.
The Pioneers captured the Aitkin Tournament Championship with a 55-47 win over the host Gobblers. Jonah Prokott led the way with 24 while Peter Schommer had 10, and both Jonah and Peter were named to the All Tournament Team.
The Pioneers downed the Raiders 91-84 in the first round of the Aitkin Holiday Tournament behind a 29 point game from Jonah Prokott. Jonah led 4 Pierz players in double figures as both Peter Schommer and Cody Kimman scored 16 points each and Brandon Stuckmayer tallied 10 points.
The Pioneers lost a 60-52 decision to the Huskies in the Home Opener for Pierz. Jonah Prokott scored 14 to lead Pierz while Peter Schommer added 13 and Michael Leidenfrost added 8 for the 2-2 Pioneers. Ethan Navratil of Albany led all scorers with 19 while Carter Birr came off the bench to add 10.
The Pioneers fell 60-58 to the Rangers to suffer their first setback of the season. The Pioneers battled back from a 9-point deficit to grab a 1-point lead but couldn't hold on. The Pioneers had possession of the ball and trailed by 2 with :12 left but couldn't get the potential tying or winning shot to fall.

The Pioneers rolled to a 65-40 win over the Bombers to improve to 2-0. Pierz got 20 points from Jonah Prokott and 14 from Michael Leidenfrost in the victory.
The Pioneers opened their season with a 64-41 win over the Royals on a memorable night that saw Peter Schommer score his 1,000th career point late in the game.
The Pioneers lost 58-21 to the Huskies as Pierz began the Home portion of their 2019-20 season schedule. Derek Stangl earned a 5-3 decision, while Trevor Radunz, Riley Hoskins and Tanner Young earned victories by Fall.
The Pioneers made their first road trip of the season a successful one with a 50-46 win over the Wolves in Milaca. Courtney Strohmeier scored all 13 of her points after halftime and Emily Dehler just missed a double-double with 10 points and 9 rebounds. The Pioneers score with :38 left in the game to come back and defeat the Chargers 28-27 to win the Prep Bowl and bring home their 4th overall State Championship and their third Class AAA Title in 5 years!

The Pioneers began the new season with an 83-53 win over the visiting Cardinals. After the game was tied 32-32 at halftime, Pierz erupted for 51 points in the 2nd half while the defense limed Upsala to 21 points after halftime.

The Pioneers won a thrilling 20-14 game over the Huskies when the Pierz defense forced JCC to give up the ball on downs on 4th and short, Peter Schommer then engineered the game-winning drive when he delivered a perfectly thrown 48 yard touchdown to Michael Leidenfrost to put Pierz ahead 20-14 after a successful 2-poiunt conversion run by Matthias Algarin with just 1:19 to play in the game at US Bank Stadium. Leidenfrost then picked off a pass with :06 left to play and send Pierz to the Prep Bowl against Dassel-Cokato on November 30th at 1:00 pm.
The Pioneers continued their unbeaten 2019 season with a 58-16 win over the Yellowjackets in the Class AAA Quarterfinals in Alexandria. It was another suffocating defensive performance combined with a tremendous power running game that keyed the Pioneers to their 12th victory of the year.

Two of Class AAA's best teams squared off at Husky Stadium at St. Cloud State on Friday night for the Section 6AAA Title and a trip to the State Tournament. Both Pierz and Albany entered the contest with unblemished 10-0 records, but it was the Pioneers that left the field with their perfect mark still intact as Matthias Algarin and Blake Kowalczyk each scored 3 touchdowns in the Pioneers 42-22 victory.

Today, the Spotlight shines on Madison Hoheisel, who is involved in MANY activities at school, not the least of which is being the student in charge of all the Concession Stand organization throughout the year. Madison was a member of the Pioneers Tennis team and she also discusses her class courses and future plans.
The Pioneers controlled every aspect of the game against the Lakers, getting 4 rushing touchdowns, a pick-six from the defense and a special teams punt return for a touchdown in a 48-0 in the 6AAA Semifinals. Michael Leidenfrost picked off two passes, the first one just 1:30 into the game, returning it 31 yards for a score. He later added a 72 yard scoring run. Matthias Algarin ran for two touchdowns and returned a punt 68 yards for another. And it was another stifling performance from the defense, forcing 5 turnovers and posting their 5th shutout of the year as the Pioneers advance to the Section 6AAA Championship against undefeated Albany.
The top-seeded Patriots put an end to the Pioneers season with a 3-set sweep in the opening round of the 8AA Playoffs on Wednesday. Set scores were 25-18, 25-10 and 25-21. Pierz finishes their season with a record of 11-16.

The Pierz defense was outstanding, forcing 5 turnovers and shutting out the Irish offense, as Maple Lake's only score came on a kick-off return for a touchdown. Blake Kowalczyk ran for 2 touchdowns, Matthias Algarin ran for over 150 yards and scored a touchdown and added a pair of 2-point conversions and picked off a pass and Michael Leidenfrost found the endzone for the 4th time this year as well.

The Pioneers improve to 7-0 with a 51-7 win at home against the Dutchmen. Played in winter-like conditions, the Pioneers didn't let the poor weather conditions slow them down too much, getting 3 long rushing touchdowns and a 49 yard punt return for a score from Matthias Algarin and touchdown runs from Carter Moulzolf, Blake Kowalczyk and Ross Boser.

Matthias Algarin ran for a score and caught a Peter Schommer pass for another and Blake Kowalczyk pounded his way for 126 yards and a touchdown on the ground for Pierz. Isaac Otte led the Pioneers defense with 16 tackles.

The Pioneers blew by the Falcons 52-0 in new Head Coach Dan Saehr's debut. Matthias Algarin went 40 yards for a TD on the first play from scrimmage, and the Pioneers raced to a 46-0 lead at halftime. Peter Schommer went 4-4 for 141 yards and 3 touchdowns as the Pioneers rolled up 450 yards of total offense.

The Billlygoats beat the Brewers 4-1 to advance to the Sweet 16 on Labor Day weekend. Matt Kummet led an 11-hit attack by going 4-4 with a double, a walk, an rbi and 2 runs. Matt Tautges retired 14 of the first 15 batters he faced to earn the Win, with draftee Chad Weiss coming out of the bullpen to nail down the Save for Buckman.
The Lakers fall 3-1 to the Aces in the 2nd round of the State Tournament in Maple Lake. Cody Stich went 1-4 with a double and Carter Philippi went 1-2 with 2 walks and scored Avon's lone run. Matt Pichelmann went the distance on the mound, scattering 9 hits as Avon's season came to a close.
The Lightning had no luck against Cologne righty Christian Johnson, as he limited to powerful Nisswa offense to just a 6th inning infield single by Tory Miller, in a 2-0 season-ending loss for the Region 8C Champions. Cologne scored their only runs in the 7th on a squeeze bunt and a passed ball.
The Rebels fell behind early in their first round game in Delano and could never totally recover, as they dropped a 7-5 decision to the Serpents. Trailing 7-3 going to the bottom of the 9th, the Rebels scored twice and had the bases loaded but failed to score as they saw their fine season come to an end. Nick Jelacie hit a 2-run Homer and had a 9th inning rbi single while Jason Sather had a pair of hits, including an rbi single.
Avon edged Lake Henry 3-1 in Maple Lake in the first round of the 2019 State Tournament as Matt Pichelmann threw a Complete Game for the Win and Riley Voit provided the offensive punch with a 2-run single in the 7th that broke a scoreless tie and then added a 9th inning single for his 4th hit to drive in a key insurance run for Avon.
The Billygoats rallied from deficits of 5-0 and 6-1 to beat the Sharks 14-6 in the Class C State Tournament 1st round in Delano. Noah Boser put his name into the State record book with a 5-hit game, including a 2-run Homer in the Goats 8-run top of the 9th that broke a 6-6 tie. Matt Swanson, a draftee from Upsala, came out of the bullpen to earn the Win.
The Rebels advanced to the Region 8C Championship with a 5-0 shutout over the Billygoats. Logan Kalis threw a 5-hit shutout, with 4 of those hits being infield singles and retired the final 12 batters he faced. Zach Heidmann and Rhett Williamson belted 7th inning solo Homers to put the finishing touches on the Rebels win.
The Billygoats edged the Lakers 3-2 behind a Complete Game from Matt Tautges. Shawn Lanners Homered and drove in the eventual game-winner with a 7th inning rbi single. Taylor Holthaus hit a 2-run Homer in the top of the 1st for Avon.
The Lightning edged the Rebels 6-5 in Avon to move into the Region 8C Championship. Nisswa used a 4-run top of the 4th inning to get started, only to see the Rebels chip away and eventually take a 5-4 lead in the 6th inning. Nisswa then plated 2 in the 7th for the 6-5 final score. Aaron Jenkins had a pair of hits, including the game-winning rbi. Brad Waytashek led the Rebels with 2 hits, including a double and a sacrifice fly to drive in 4 runs.
Lakers righty Matt Pichelmann tossed his second Complete Game win of the Tournament as the Lakers eliminated the Bulldogs 3-1 in Avon on Sunday. Taylor Holthaus delivered a 2-run double in the 3rd for the big hit of the game.
The Billygoats eliminated the Steves with a 4-1 win on Sunday in Avon. Chad Weiss struck out 14 over his 9 innings to get the Win and Buckman broke a 1-1 tie by scoring 3 times in the bottom of the 8th.
The Billygoats kept their season alive with an 8-5 win over the Blue Jays in an Elimination Game in Pierz. Aaron Weber doubled twice and drove in 4 runs, Lane Girtz had 3 hits and scored twice, Matt Kummet had a 3-hit game and Matt Tautges pitched not once, but twice, to secure the victory. Brady Burggraff Homered and Justin Cichon had 4 hits for Upsala.
The Rebels clinched a return to the State Tournament with a 15-4 win in 7 innings over the Lakers on Sunday in Pierz. The Rebels got Home Runs from Ethan Branum, Bill Sather, Logan Kalis and Zach Heidmann to power them to victory.
The Lightning pounded the Steves 20-0 in 7 innings in Pierz at the 2019 Region 8C Tournament to sew up a spot in the State Tournament. Adam Hardy had 5 hits, including a Homer and drove in 4 runs while Drew Boland had 4 hits including a pair of doubles and drove in 5 runs. Sam Peterson had just 1 hit for Nisswa, but it was a huge one, with a Grand Slam Homer in the 6th inning.
The Bulldogs outlast the Cubs 4-3 in 13 innings at Hellie Field in Pierz in an Elimination Game. Austin Dickmann led off the bottom of the 13th with a double, and 1 out later, scored the winning run on his brother Brandon's sacrifice fly for the victory.

Jason Roepke threw 7 innings to earn the Win. Kyle Boser drove in all 3 runs for the Cubs.
The Lakers eliminated the Black Sox with a 6-1 victory on Saturday. Putter Harlander handcuffed the Sox over 7 innings, allowing just 1 run while scattering 3 hits. Avon took control with a 4-run bottom of the 2nd, keyed by rbi singles by Tony Harlander and Cody Stich and a 2-run double from Caleb Curry. The Lakers added a run in the 3rd when Carter Holthaus scored on a wild pitch, then closed the scoring in the 4th on a solo blast from Caleb Curry for the 6-1 final score.
The Skis fall 12-4 to the Springers at the Nic Bell Classic in Cold Spring. The Springers pound out 16 hits, 9 of them for extra-bases in their victory. Sobieski collected 13 hits off Springers ace Zach Femrite with Riley Hirsch going 4-4 and Austin Weisz doubling twice to lead the way for the Skis.
The 3rd seeded Bulldogs hand the 2nd seeded Lakers a 10-8 defeat in 13 innings in the Victory League East 1st Round Playoffs at Hellie Field. Peter Schommer and Chuck Boser drive in runs in the 13th for the Bulldogs, while Jonah Prokott came out of the bullpen to throw 6 1/3 innings to earn the Win.
The Blue Jays used back-to-back Homers from Brandon Welinski and Justin Lampert and a Complete Game, 16 strikeout pitching performance from Eric Lampert to beat the Cubs 5-3 in a West Division Winners Bracket game.
Pierz hammered Foley 21-1 in American Legion Baseball from Hellie Field on Thursday. Pierz scored 8 times in the 1st, 9 times in the 3rd and 4 in the 4th. Pierz improved their record to 7-1 with the victory.

The Bulldogs beat the Riverdogs 11-1 in 7 innings on Sunday night at Hellie Field behind a very strong pitching performance from Joe Strauch. He threw a Complete Game 4-hitter and got plenty of run support, led by Ryan Foreman. The Bulldogs catcher banged out 3 hits and drove in 3 runs while Michael Leidenfrost had 2 hits and drove in 2. Cole Jendro struck out 13 over 5 innings for the Riverdogs but took the loss.
The Lakers beat the Brewers 10-2 on Wednesday night at Hellie Field to close out the regular season. Dan Saehr led the Lakers offense with a 2-run double and an rbi single, Chad Weiss had a 2-run double and Jeremy Bingesser had his first career 2-hit game for the Lakers. Preston Rocheleau struck out 9 over his 7 shutout innings of work, scattering just a pair of Mike Poser singles while Cody Kimman drove in both Brewers runs with an 8th inning single.
The Skis beat the Lakers 13-1 in 7 innings on Sunday by blasting 4 Homers. Dan Marod belted 2 Homers and drove in 5 runs, while Tyler Jendro and Austin Weisz also went deep.
The Skis dropped a 4-3 game against the Cyclones in Sauk Rapids on Saturday night as the Skis got their first look at one of the teams they might have to face in the Class B Playoffs. Joey Hanowski had 3 hits for the Skis while Scott Litchy had a pair of singles and scored a run. Hanowski and Collin Eckman delivered rbi's for the Skis. Bjorn Hanson had 3 hits, including 2 doubles to pace a 16 hit attack in support of Winning Pitcher David Kroger.
The Blue Jays moved one step closer to clinching the West Division #1 seed for the upcoming Playoffs with an 11-1 win in 8 innings over the Brewers. John Fuchs worked 7 innings, striking out 5 for the Win. Matt Swanson, Eric Lampert and Myron Ripplinger had 2-hit games to pace the Upsala attack while Jesse Marshik doubled twice and Simon Gruber had a pair of singles and drove in the only run for Pierz.
The Billygoats rally in the bottom of the 9th for a 3-2 win over the Lakers at Hellie Field. The win clinches the regular season East title for Buckman. Travis Kahl's rbi single through a drawn-in infield proves to be the game-winner.
The Billygoats blanked the Brewers 5-0 in Buckman to improve to 10-1 this year. Buckman scored 4 runs on 6 hits in the bottom of the 1st to gain early control and then rode the solid pitching of Andrew Rueckert to the victory.
The Black Sox downed the Bears 11-2 behind big offensive days from several players. Trevor Sawyer went 3-4 with a double and scored twice, Ike Sawyer Homered and drove in 3 and scored 3, Dylan Carlson had 4 hits and 3 rbi and Carter Sawyer was 2-2 with a Homer, double, 2 walks and was hit by a pitch to reach base 5 times. Mitch Reller struck out 6 over 7 innings for the Win.

The Skis waited until June 9th to have their Home Opener as the finishing touches on their ballpark remodeling project were finished. But the Skis christened their new facility with a 3-0 shutout of the Blue Jays behind a combined 4-hit shutout from Tyler Jendro and Thomas Miller. Dusty Parker drove in 2 runs with a bases loaded walk and a sacrifice fly, Collin Eckman had an rbi double and scored twice to lead Sobieski. Justin Cichon had 2 hits including a double for Upsala.
The Falcons build a 4-0 lead,only to see the Pioneers battle back and tie the game on a 4th inning rbi triple by Jack Suska, then a 5th inning run-producing ground out by Reese Kapsner made it 4-2 and a Preston Veith sacrifice fly in the 6th made it 4-3, and then Cody Kimman tied things up with a 2-out rbi single in the 6th to make it 4-4. In the bottom of the 8th, Foley's Mark Dierkes singled with 2 out, went to 3rd on a hit by Noah Novak, and then raced home with the 6AA Title clinching run as the Falcons beat the Pioneers 5-4 to earn their very first ever trip to the State Tournament.
The Pioneers grab an early lead on a triple by Jack Suska and and rbi single by Peter Schommer, but the Falcons come back and build a 5-1 lead going to the bottom of the 7th, where Pierz made it very interesting with a 2-run single by Austin Dickmann and a wild pitch to make it 5-4, but Falcons pitcher Drew Beier stranded the tying run at 3rd base give Foley the 5-4 win and force a 2nd game for the Section 6AA Championship.
The Pioneers edge the Falcons 3-2 in a drama-filled Section 6AA Winners Bracket game in St. Cloud. Jonah Prokott won his 2nd straight Playoff game with relief help from Peter Schommer. The Pioneers scored the eventual winning run in the 6th inning when Peter Schommer raced home on a wild pitch.
The Lakers b uilt a 5-0 lead after 4 innings only to see the Swans rally for a 5-5 tie in the top of the 6th. The Lakers got the deciding run in the bottom of the 6th on an infield rbi single from Peter Herman, his 3rd hit of the game.
The Rebels beat the Black Sox 8-3 on Friday in Freeport. Brett Kramer went 5 innings to get the Win. Brian Skluzacek had 2 hits, including a triple, drove in 2 runs and scored 3 times to lead Fort Ripley
The Pioneers beat the Crusaders 4-1 in a Winners Bracket game at Faber Field as Sophomore Jonah Prokott hurled a Complete Game 3-hitter for his biggest Win. He also doubled, walked with the bases loaded to drive in the go-ahead run and had a sacrifice bunt. Isaac Otte had a 2-run single, Reese Kapsner added a sacrifice fly and the Pierz defense turned two big double plays. Prokott also picked off a base runner and catcher Noah Cekalla threw out a runner trying to steal.
The Pioneers rallied with 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th to edge the Cardinals 4-3 at Faber Field as Cody Kimman drove in 3 runs, Jack Suska tripled, drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, scored a run ad threw out a runner at home. Peter Schommer improved his pitching record to 6-0 with Jonah Prokott getting the final 2 outs to earn a Save.
The Pioneers outstanding season came to an end with a 6-2 loss to the Crusaders in Waite Park. The Pioneers got their 2 runs in the 6th inning on an rbi single by Laura Skiba and a sacrifice fly by Halle Zupan. The Pioneers end the season with 19 wins, which is a new School Record!

Cole Jendro's 5th inning Grand Slam broke open a scoreless tie and the Riverdogs went on to beat the Brewers 10-0 in 8 innings. Nate Psyck threw his 4th Complete Game, blanking Pierz on 3 infield singles while striking out 13. Psyck also helped himself with 3 hits, including a pair of doubles. One of those drove in a pair of runs in the 6th.
The Pioneers pull off an improbable come-from-behind rally when they trailed the Eagles 7-1 heading into the bottom of the 7th, only to score 6 runs to tie the game and force extra innings. The Pioneers then won the game in the bottom of the 9th on a sacrifice fly by Halle Zupan for the 8-7 victory.
The Pioneers and Cardinals play an epic Playoff game in Waite Park that was scoreless through 9 innings. Annandale finally broke through for 2 runs in the 10th to defeat the Pioneers 2-0.

The Pioneers lose 9-2 to the Falcons at St. John's University as Foley plates 8 runs in the bottom of the 5th to hand the Pioneers the setback. Luke Girtz leads Pierz with 2 hits, including an rbi double and Reese Kapsner scores both runs for Pierz.

The Pioneers 10-game winning streak is snapped with a tough 6-5 loss in the bottom of the 7th to Albany as the Huskies rallied from a 5-3 deficit to post the victory in Farming.
The Pioneers beat the Silverstreaks 2-1 in a great pitchers dual as Brandon Stuckmayer hurls a Complete Game for Pierz. The Pioneers got an rbi single from Cody Kimman and an Osakis throwing error to score 2 runs in the 2nd inning while the Silverstreaks scored their run in the bottom of the 7th and left the potential tying and winning runs on base as Stuckmayer finished the game with a strikeout.
The Pioneers edge the Irish 5-4 to complete their sweep of a CMC doubleheader as Luke Girtz and Austin Dickmann deliver back-to-back rbi singles in the bottom of the 5th to break a 3-3 tie. Austin Dickmann pitched 5 2/3 innings but had to exit due to the pitch count but still gets the Win, his 3rd! Cody Kimman nailed down the Save as Pierz improved to 12-0 in the CMC and 14-1 overall.
The Pioneers outlast the Irish 7-5 in 10 innings to capture Game 1 of their CMC doubleheader. Cody Kimman's 2-out, 2-run single in the top of the 10th drove in the decisive runs and Isaac Otte made two fabulous plays in right field in the bottom of the 10th to help secure the victory. Reese Kapsner earned the Win in relief of Peter Schommer.
The Pioneers completed their sweep of the Jaguars with a 19-2 rout in Game 2 of their CMC doubleheader. Terri Tretter had 3 hits including a triple, Taylor Cummings added 2 hits, among them a 2-run triple in the 1st and Halle Zupan singled, doubled, walked and scored twice to help lead a 14-hit attack. Tori Wagner and Kelsie Cummings combined for the pitching Win.
The Pioneers dominate the Jaguars 15-0 in Game 1of a CMC doubleheader by exploding for 8 runs in the 2nd inning and another 5 runs in the 3rd. Ella Kalusche goes 3-4 with a triple and 3 rbi, Laura Skiba was 3-4 and scored 3 times, and Amaya Rocheleau was 3-3 with a double, a walk and drove in 2 runs. Pitcher Emily Sadlovsky threw a no-hitter, striking out 4!
The Pioneers post an impressive 9-1 win over the Bulldogs to complete their season sweep. Jonah Prokott improved his pitching record to 3-0 with a Complete-Game 4-hitter. Prokott got a lot of offensive support as Pierz banged out 11 hits, 4 for extra bases and also played error-free defense. The Pioneers improved to 10-0 in the CMC and 12-1 overall with their most impressive overall team win of the season.
The Riverdogs beat the Falcons 8-4 as Nathan Psyck struck out 11 and hurled his 3rd straight complete game. Psyck also doubled, singled and drove in a pair of runs. Royalton's Michael Petron had 3 hits including a pair of doubles and 2 rbi and Brady Moulzolf singled, delivered a sacrifice fly and drove in 3 runs.
It was a fabulous evening at the Pierz Ballroom as the Pierz Music Department presented their 2nd Annual Jazz Night Fundraiser. This is far from a professional recording. As a matter of fact, I just opened a recording App on my phone and hoped for the best. Included in this 17-song recording are performances by both the Jazz I and Jazz II groups, songs from the Jazz Choir and the entire set of our featured performer for the evening, Karla Jensen! It was truly a great night of music by our talented musicians!

The Pioneers complete their CMC doubleheader sweep of the Lakers with an 11-0 win as Jonah Prokott has a memorable 1st Varsity start by throwing a Complete Game 1-hit shutout with 9 strikeouts! Only a 2-out, infield single in the 4th inning spoiled Jonah's chance at a perfect game. Luke Girtz had 2 hits including a triple and drove in 2 runs, Isaac Otte and Jack Suska also had a 2-hit, 2 rbi game.
The Pioneers beat the Lakers 15-2 in the first game of a CMC doubleheader at Dick Putz Field as Peter Schommer earned his 3rd Win and Jack Suska had 3 hits and drove in 3 runs while Austin Dickmann added 2 hits and 3 rbi's in the Pierz victory.
The Pioneers take an early 2-0 lead over the defending Class AA Champion and #1 ranked Irish, but Maple Lake quickly shows why they are such a powerful team, coming back for an 11-2 victory.
The Lightning get Home Runs from Jason Roepke and Drew Boland and a go-ahead rbi single from Morgan Shepherd in the 7th to edge the Steves 4-3 at Trobec Field on Opening Day.

Cody Kimman struck out 6 in his Complete Game victory as the Pioneers defeated the Eagles 12-2 in 5 innings to complete a doubleheader sweep of EVW. Austin Radunz was 3-3 with 2 rbi, Reese Kapsner doubled twice and drove in 2 and Jack Suska added an rbi triple as the Pioneers improved to 5-0.

After Paynesville scored twice in the top of the 1st, the Pioneers got a 2-run double by Austin Dickmann to tie the game and then a go-ahead rbi single by Cody Kimman to put them up 3-2 after 1 inning. After that, the game was in the hands of the pitchers as neither team scored for the rest of the game. Peter Schommer hurled his 2nd Complete Game of the season to improve his pitching record to 2-0.

In this edition of the Senior Spotlight, brought to you by You Are There Sports and the Pierz School District, we visit with Hannah Krych about her involvement in athletics, band and her future college plans among other topics.
The Pioneers celebrate Opening Day 2019 with a spectacular pitching performance from Peter Schommer. The Junior right-hander fires a PERFECT GAME in the season-opening 8-0 victory over the Huskers! Schommer fanned 10, needing just 61 pitches in 7 innings for his gem. Austin Dickmann belted a 2-run Homer and added a 2-run double to lead a 12-hit attack for the Pioneers.
The Pioneers get their season started with a 10-6 victory over the Huskers. Emily Sadlovsky earned the Opening Day Win with relief help from Tori Wagner. Jade Porter led the offense with 3 hits, a walk, 2 rbi, a stolen base and a run as well as several nice running catches in centerfield. Kendra Gerads was 2-4 with an rbi ad a run scored to lead Holdingford.
