A lot of questions have cropped up around the meet and greet scheduling with American and United. This episode touches on those challenges and a little peek behind the scenes. Bottom line: Stay patient and keep a smile on your face! Much easier said than done at times like this, but it is the only way to deal with the turbulent world of aviation.
Another thing that this episode discusses is having a goal airline or job is truly a great thing, but it shouldn't close off other opportunities that may come your way. Keep every option on the table; things are changing in aviation...again. Becoming inflexible is going to create more harm than good and could put you in a tight spot down the road. This wisdom holds true for the entirety of your career, not just TPNx.

Cohen traveled globally as an instructor pilot and commissioned officer in the United States Air Force, rising to the rank of colonel. After serving over 26 years in the Air Force, Cohen moved to Florida to inspire the next generation of pilots by teaching the Air Force Junior ROTC in Orange County Public Schools and Aviation in Lake County Schools. Cohen started his experience in higher education by bringing dual-enrollment aviation programs to the Orange and Lake County school districts as an adjunct professor with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University for six years.
Cohen earned a B.S. in aerospace engineering from Boston University, an M.S. in industrial engineering from New Mexico State University, and an MBA from Washington State University. He was also a National Defense Fellow with the Institute for Defense Analyses in Alexandria, Virginia.
David is a thoughtful, insightful, and inspiring guy who works with young pilots and has a passion for education and improving the lives of pilots everywhere. It was a pleasure to interview him today, and this interview cannot be missed!

We are deeply saddened to report that Richard McSpadden died in an aircraft accident outside Lake Placid, New York, on Sunday afternoon. The Cessna 177 Cardinal in which Richard was in the right seat experienced an emergency after takeoff. The airplane attempted to return to the airport but failed to make the runway. Both occupants lost their lives.
Richard was a very accomplished pilot, including serving as commander of the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds during his military career, and a trusted colleague, friend, son, husband, and father.
Richard is survived by his wife, Judy; his son, Grant; and his daughter, Annabel.
Our thoughts are with Richard’s family at this time.

Cavagnaro graduated from Santa Clara Universityin 1987 and completed her Ph.D. at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 1995. Her doctoral dissertation, A Homotopy Reciprocity Law for Ribbon Disc Complements, concerned homotopy in low-dimensional topology, and was supervised by Robert F. Craggs. In it, she credits Paul Halmos for, as she puts it, ordering her to go to graduate school.
Meanwhile, she joined the mathematics faculty of Sewanee: The University of the South in 1993. She has served as chair of the mathematics department at Sewanee and introduced mathematics courses relating to her aviation interests, on topics including aerodynamics and the use of differential equations to model physical phenomena.
In 2001, Cavagnaro and William T. Haight II co-edited the Dictionary of Classical and Theoretical Mathematics, published by the CRC Press as the third volume of their Comprehensive Dictionary of Mathematics book series.

Tom Peterson is an aviation professor at Minnesota State University, Airforce Academy Graduate, and flew for the airforce in multiple variants of the 135 Platform during the cold war. With all the staffing shortages in the airline industry, the mandatory retirement age for airline pilots has been raised from age 65 to 67. Joe and Adam discuss that today and the parallel it has with the switch from 62 to 65 in the past.
All of the other pilot shortages in the past pales in comparison with what we are experiencing now. There are a lot of problems that could arise from this raising of the retirement age, so Adam and Joe discuss the pitfalls and the ethics we will all be facing.

Some of you may be looking to get into the airline industry at this time, so this episode is about 10 things to work on if you want to fly for the airlines, regardless of what stage you are in your career.

- Read Cockpit2Cockpit: This is a great read that gives you the high-level view of things you need to know coming out of pilot training (3:38)
- Get your logbook together: We recommend using MilKEEP. They have the easiest system for transcribing military records. (4:43)
- Get your ATP and CTP: Once you have this stuff, you are done, because you might be in a situation in the future where you will need it. (7:41)
- Official copies of high school and college transcripts: This is often put to the last second and they can take forever. (11:53)
- Applications and resumes: Use Checked And Set to review your application materials. They are the people who are going to help you get your stuff into perfect order when you are applying for airline jobs. (14:36)
- Get your letters of recommendation: Start very early with this, give them ammunition on what to write, and send a thank you after they write the letter. (20:13)
- Get your FCC Radio Operator’s License: If you have never flown outside the military, you may have never heard of this, but it’s really easy to get and you will need it. (23:55)
- Get your driving record: There is the National Driving Record, but it might be different based on your location. If you have a ticket, be prepared to explain why. (25:08)
- Form 8 History: Look all the way back to pilot training and make review any less than 100 percent you have and be prepared to reflect on it. (27:44)
- Interview prep: There are a lot of resources out there. It’s really important to become a good communicator for the interview and to enhance your career in general. (30:29)

We are with Jeff Nielsen from the Airline Pilot Guy Podcast. Jeff was interested in being a pilot from a really young age, and he realized that the people that got hired in large airlines usually came from the military. He didn’t want to do that, so he studied engineering and business at Georgia Tech (and that didn’t work out). He studied Aviation Management at Auburn and ended up joining the military. He currently flies at a large airline where he has been employed for 32 years.

Dave Jesurun is an entrepreneur, former air force, and owner of High Country Air Service, an aviation services form. They are like a "turnkey flight department" for people who own airplanes (or who would like to) but are not qualified to operate them. Jack Hersch, author of Dangers of Automation in Airlines: Accidents Will Happen. Jack is not an airline pilot, but he is a student of automation and the science of human factors. Jack started as a writer with his book Death March Escape, sharing his father's story of escaping the concentration camps. He is a self-proclaimed airplane nut, so when the MAX crashes happened, he took it upon himself to investigate and report what really happened to those planes. It turns out it was an issue with automation.

Episode #66 – We are talking with Kim and Chris at MilKEEP about logbook transcription and their new system to automate the painful transcription process from Air Force flight records to a workable logbook. MilKEEP is run by a husband and wife team. Chris brings his knowledge as an Air Force pilot and Kim lends her background in business to the running of the company's day-to-day operations.
The idea for MilKEEP started when Chris was applying for his ATP. Together, they spent hours staring at a computer screen entering over 3000 of Chris' military flying hours into a conversion spreadsheet.
