Teaching English to Brazilian women living in underprivileged communities. She Speaks was started by two Key Biscayne residents, Julia Lewkowitz and Daniela Castelo. They are from Brazil, local students, and good friends. They consider themselves extremely fortunate to have the chance to move to the United States and learn English fluently.
They are using their opportunity to help women back home. She Speaks gives young Brazilian women living in underprivileged communities a chance to change their lives by learning English remotely.

Parent Your Parents was born out of the journey H. Frances Reaves and her family traveled once their mother became too demented to live with their father. It began with the move from their Houston home to Atlanta where they lived in two separate facilities until her Mother’s death.
This experience taught her that most seniors in the United States are ignored by society, the government, business and, sadly, their children. Most children of elderly parents don’t know how many benefits and resources are available for their parents or ailing family members.
But accessing benefits and resources is fraught with pitfalls! Some medical professionals, insurance companies, and predators take advantage of the elderly and the ill because they know that seniors no longer have the capacity to check up on the truth.

The Islander News has been covering “The Life and Times of Key Biscayne, Florida” since Nov. 2, 1966, when it was founded by Sue Morton as The Islander Key Biscayne Weekly Bulletin, selling for 15 cents per issue or 50 cents for a monthly subscription.
That first issue led with the story, “Key Biscayne is changing,” which detailed new shops and homes on the island, and heralded the impending opening of Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park on the island’s southern tip. It announced a Lion’s Club lightbulb sale, the Key Biscayne Music and Drama Club’s production of Mary Mary, the volunteer fire department’s search for more volunteers and a three-bedroom home renting for $225 per month.
Today, the newspaper continues to pride itself on being Key Biscayne’s most trusted source of local news, and not only telling the Village’s stories, but participating in its events and civic life. The Islander looks forward to continuing the share in the progress of the Island Paradise as the community moves into its second 25 years as the Village of Key Biscayne and The Islander marks its second half century of sharing its “life and times.”

Carlos started his tennis coaching company in the key and now runs a successful tennis coaching business from the grove with his sidekick and better half Cristi.
