On this episode of How to Save the World, Meghan and Jaimie chat to Dan Brown, one of the co-founders of Rust Belt Riders.

Rust Belt Riders is a Cleveland-based compost company that collects food waste, facilitates the decomposition of that food waste and transforms it into nutrient-rich compost.

On this episode we chat about the science of composting, why it's so important, what we can do to be better stewards of our food waste, how Rust Belt Riders operates their business in Cleveland, Ohio, and what larger-scale policies could be helpful to divert food waste from landfills in the future.

Check out the episode and Rust Belt Riders! You can find them at rustbeltriders.com and on Instagram & Twitter @rustbeltriders.

Remember, when you throw your food waste away...it doesn't go away.

Bringing a new tiny human into the world is exciting, joyful and more than a little intimidating. For one thing, the amount of stuff you need is just staggering: crib, bassinet, car seat, stroller, carrier, changing table, baby clothes, swaddles, diapers, breast pump, bottles, maternity clothes...the list just goes on and on. Weighing the goal of parenting sustainably against consumption-driven expectations is a challenge, so we wanted to offer some tips and tricks for new parents embarking on this amazing journey with sustainability in mind. We also reached out to our low-waste mama friend Megan (@zero.wasting.away) for her advice and she provided an amazing wealth of insight and knowledge!

For every listen on the day this episode drops, we are donating $1 to Black Mamas Matter Alliance (https://blackmamasmatter.org/), an organization dedicated to supporting the health and wellbeing of black mothers before, during and after pregnancy.
