What’s a “disciple”? What does Jesus want for my life? Find out in this episode.

JOIN the NEWSLETTER. SUPPORT Binmin with a tax-deductible gift HERE

0:00 - INTRO

0:44 - DISCIPLE: FOLLOWER OF JESUS. Matt 28: 19 - “make disciples of all nations”

1:47 - HOW DO WE BECOME CHRISTIAN DISCIPLES? Faith in Jesus to become a child of God (John 1:12). Jesus expects total commitment. Become more like Jesus (Romans 8:28-29). Take up “cross” (Matthew 10:38).

2:48 - WHAT DOES BEING A CHRISTIAN DISCIPLE PRACTICALLY LOOK LIKE? Worship God alone. Attract non-Christians because of your integrity (Matthew 5:13-16). Beyond “lifestyle evangelism” to sharing the gospel with others (Mark 8:38).

5:27 - WHAT TOOLS DO WE HAVE? 1. RELYING ON THE HOLY SPIRIT - allow us to overcome sinful habits and follow God’s Word (Romans 8:13). 2. SCRIPTURE - draws us closer to Lord. 3. PRAYER - Can pray Scripture (Psalms, New Testament prayers). 4. CHURCH FELLOWSHIP - provides opportunities to be discipled by more mature believers.

6:44 - SO WHAT? Jesus calls Christians to live differently than surrounding culture. Thomas À Kempis, The Imitation of Christ: “Jesus always has many who love His heavenly kingdom, but few who bear his cross.” Saint Augustine: A Christian disciple is: “A mind through which Christ thinks. A heart through which Christ loves. A voice through which Christ speaks. A hand through which Christ helps.”

8:19 - WHAT’S YOUR NEXT STEP? PICK ONE AREA. More time in the Word? More time in the world? Area of sin or struggle? Get equipped?

Remind them this is a really important decision (urgency).

7:13 - WHAT IF THEY WANT TO BECOME A CHRISTIAN? Lead them in a PRAYER FOR SALVATION. 1. Admit they are a sinner and want to repent. 2. Thank Jesus for dying for them and asking him to be Savior. 3. They are “born again” and have eternal life.

6: 21 - 2. NUMBER? 9 AUTHORS. ALL EYEWITNESSES OR SUPERVISED BY EYEWITNESSES. 6 INDEPENDENT SOURCES WRITTEN 20-40 YEARS AFTER THE RESURRECTION (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Paul, Peter). 1 COR. 15:6 MORE THAN 500 SAW THE RESURRECTED CHRIST

8:02 - 3. TRUTHFUL? ALL OF THE APOSTLES EXCEPT FOR JOHN WERE MARTYRED

9:53 - 4. PREJUDICIAL? APOSTLES WERE NOT PREJUDICED TO BELIEVE IN THE RESURRECTION. LUKE 24:11 (women run back, apostles don’t believe them). “DOUBTING THOMAS.” HAD NOTHING TO GAIN PERSONALLY.

12:18 - SO WHAT? INTEGRITY OF WRITERS IS BEYOND REPROACH. HONESTY & MANUSCRIPT ACCURACY CONFIRMS HISTORICAL RELIABILITY.

2:35 - 2. INTERNAL TEST: what’s written in the NT. ERRORS IN THE BIBLE? NO ERRORS IN THE BIBLICAL MANUSCRIPTS: overwhelming majority: of variant readings are grammatical, word order, synonyms. Bruce Metzger: LESS THAN 40 OF 20,000 LINES - NOT SURE WHICH IS ORIGINAL ( in Geisler & Nix, A General Introduction to the Bible (1986), 475.).

5:06 - WE AREN’T MISSING ANYTHING; WE HAVE TOO MUCH.

6:19 - VARIANT READINGS HELP CONFIRM THE ORIGINAL TEXT. 5,000 MANUSCRIPTS PROVE ORIGINAL MESSAGE

8:03 - CONTRADICTIONS IN THE BIBLE? (2. INTERNAL TEST cont’d). SO-CALLED “CONTRADICTIONS” ARE INTERPRETATION MISTAKES. Still conveys message of Bible.

How do we know that the Bible in our hands is actually what was originally written? Was it changed from the original? Why do scholars say the Bible is the most reliable ancient book? Find out in this episode!

1:23 - CHRISTIANITY DEPENDS ENTIRELY ON JESUS. THE NT IS THE PRIMARY SOURCE OF JESUS.

2:03 - THE MANUSCRIPTS WERE ACCURATELY COPIED. WE CAN TRUST THE AUTHORS

3:00 - 3 TESTS: 1. BIBLIOGRAPHIC TEST: If we have accurate copies of the original 1st century books of the NT. “Was the Bible handed down accurately?” NEXT EPISODE: 2. INTERNAL TEST: looks “inside” the book to see if errors/contradictions. 3. EXTERNAL TEST: looks outside the documents to see if any other contemporary writings/archaeology supports.

4:37 - BIBLIOGRAPHIC TEST: 1 - HOW MANY manuscript copies exist; 2 - HOW EARLY (earliest surviving manuscripts); 3 - HOW ACCURATELY have they been transmitted

5:58 - 1 - HOW MANY MANUSCRIPT COPIES EXIST? 5,800 HAND-COPIED GREEK MANUSCRIPTS of the NT! By far the most copies of any ancient work. 9K early translations. Could reconstruct most NT from quotes by Early Church Fathers.

9:34 - 2 - HOW EARLY ARE THESE MANUSCRIPT COPIES? 88 UNDISPUTED MANUSCRIPTS from 25-200 years after written. John Rylands fragment of John (found in Egypt 25 years after written); Bodmer Papyri (oldest surviving complete manuscript copies of NT books - little over 100 yrs after NT complete); Chester-Beatty Papyri (most of NT, 50 years after NT completed). No other ancient book has such a small time gap between composition & earliest manuscript copies!

11:46 - 3 - HOW ACCURATELY HAS IT BEEN TRANSMITTED? Bruce Metzger: 99.5% OF THE NT HAS BEEN ACCURATELY TRANSMITTED. THE 0.5% IS NOT MISSING TEXT BUT TOO MUCH TEXT.

13:08 - SO WHAT? OVERWHELMING EVIDENCE TO TRUST THE NT. THE BEST-ATTESTED ANCIENT TEXT. HAS BEEN ACCURATELY TRANSMITTED.

14:50 - WHAT’S YOUR NEXT STEP? TELL SOMEONE ABOUT THIS.

Is the Bible just a bunch of myths? Has it been corrupted with false tales of miracles? This episode unveils why it isn’t mythical and why it makes sense to believe that it’s events really happened, especially Jesus’ resurrection.

0:00 - INTRO

1:05 - WHY DO PEOPLE THINK THE BIBLE IS MYTH? 1. THE PROBLEM OF MIRACLES, 2. THE PROBLEM OF RECORDING HISTORY

3:12 - 1. THE PROBLEM OF MIRACLES: 2 SCIENTIFIC METHODS: 1. EMPIRICAL (examines natural laws; repeatable, observable events in the present), 2. FORENSIC (like crime scene investigation; singular, non-repeatable, historical events; also used in archeology, origin of universe, and miracles; also called “Origin Science”)

6:59 - 2. THE PROBLEM OF RECORDING HISTORY: Overwhelming evidence that the NT is historically accurate.

  • Were written 20-40 years after Jesus’ resurrection
  • Gospels proven through archeology and writings
  • Nelson Glueck once wrote: “No archaeological discovery has ever controverted a Biblical reference.”

10:44 - NEW TESTAMENT LEGENDS ARE IMPOSSIBLE: 2 things needed for myths/legends to develop: 1. TIME (need 2 generations after event; but written 20-40 years after events), 2. SECLUSION (not having enough witnesses; but 1 Cor 15:6 - 500+ witnesses to Jesus’ resurrection).

12:21 - AUTHORS DID NOT BORROW MYTHS FROM OTHER CULTURES. GOSPELS SHOW NO SIGNS OF MYTHS OR LEGENDS. C.S. Lewis - “All I am in private life is a literary critic and historian; that’s my job. And I’m prepared to say on that basis, if anyone thinks the Gospels are either legends or novels, then that person is simply showing his incompetence as a literary critic. I’ve read a great many novels, and I know a fair amount about the legends that grew up among early people, and I know perfectly well the Gospels are not that kind of stuff” (Christian Reflections, 209).

14:34 - SO WHAT? The NT, especially the Gospels, shows no signs of myths or legends. References in the Gospels and Acts are historically confirmed. Manuscripts are too early, numerous & accurate to be myths.

15:40 - WHAT’S YOUR NEXT STEP? TRUST THE NEW TESTAMENT.

Is mistletoe really a pagan symbol? Where did our Christmas celebration come from? This episode shares the story of Christmas traditions and whether Christians should celebrate it!

1:29 - WHY ALL THE CONTROVERSY ABOUT CHRISTMAS AND PAGANISM?

2:50 - WHY DO WE CELEBRATE DECEMBER 25 AS JESUS' BIRTHDAY? We don’t know the exact date of Jesus’ birth.

4:47 - Are there Pagan Rituals Associated with Christmas? Yes and no. Some traditions have their origins in ancient pagan practices, but the meaning of any word, symbol, or custom is determined by current usage, not its origins.

6:56 - SO WHAT SHOULD WE DO ABOUT SOME OF THE CHRISTMAS TRADITIONS THAT SUPPOSEDLY HAVE PAGAN ORIGINS? For us modern Christians, they don’t hold relevance anymore (ringing bells, giving gifts, mistletoe, etc.)

10:20 - IS THERE ANY BIBLICAL EVIDENCE OF REDEEMING PAGAN SYMBOLS OR BELIEFS? Yes: Paul appropriated a pagan altar for gospel evangelism in Acts 17:22–24.

11:14 - SHOULD A CHRISTIAN CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS? Whether you choose to celebrate Jesus’ birth falls under the category of “Christian liberty” (Rom. 14:5-6; 1 Cor. 10:31).

12:29 - SO WHAT? WHAT HAVE WE LEARNED? CHRISTMAS GLORIFIES GOD. PAGAN ORIGINS OF CHRISTMAS ARE IRRELEVANT

13:29 - WHAT’S YOUR NEXT STEP? GIVE ATTENTION TO JESUS.

0:58 - WHY ARE FRIENDSHIPS SO IMPORTANT WITHIN THE CHURCH?

Jesus said, “By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another” (John 13:35).

Fellowship = creating spiritual friends

Small groups & Bible studies

9:03 - VOLUNTEERING/SERVING

Volunteering is a great way to serve others and make friends!

10:55 - NURSERY/CHILDREN’S MINISTRY IS A HUGE OPPORTUNITY!

Best evangelism opportunity! Best discipleship opportunity! Easy on-ramp (don’t need special skills). And will connect you to lots of families and people in the church.

You can’t miss the sermon at your church. But are there different types of sermons? And how do they affect us differently?

0:00 - INTRO

0:55 - WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT WAYS TO CRAFT A SERMON? A pastor has to “preach the word” (2 Tim. 4:2)

3 most common types:

  1. EXPOSITORY PREACHING (EXPOSITIONAL)

  2. TEXTUAL PREACHING

  3. TOPICAL PREACHING

1:46 - 1. EXPOSITORY PREACHING Seeks to “expose” the meaning of the Bible passage.

Explains an entire book of the Bible: verse by verse, chapter by chapter in its historical and literal contexts.

2:29 - WHAT GOES INTO CREATING AN EXPOSITORY SERMON? CIA method for Biblical interpretation (See episodes 1a & 1b)

  • CONTEXT: literary, historical
  • INTERPRETATION: God’s originally intended meaning
  • APPLICATION: Apply it to us today

3:33 - WHY IS EXPOSITORY PREACHING SO POPULAR? Shows us how to study and interpret the Bible for ourselves. Can follow the sermons each week rather than jumping around the Bible. Requires the pastor to deal with challenging texts and issues

5:23 - 2. TEXTUAL PREACHING Like expository, except the pastor only preaches through a section rather than the entire book (4-8 week “sermon series”)

6:28 - WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF A TEXTUAL SERMON SERIES? Can help us in the Christian calendar: like Advent/Christmas or Easter. Can give a basic theological framework through an important section/story

7:28 - 3. TOPICAL PREACHING A single message on a single subject. Gives a broad-spectrum view of what the Bible says on a given topic or theme.

8:05 - ADVANTAGES OF TOPICAL SERMONS

Can see a theme or topic through multiple books of the Bible. Helpful on special occasions (Mother’s Day) or to address needed issues

9:24 - DISADVANTAGES OF TOPICAL SERMONS

Could be biblically shallow. Pastor could select only Bible verses that support the theme but miss others

10:49 - SO WHAT?

All 3 types of sermons are beneficial. Expositional & Textual sermons are great for studying the Bible verse-by-verse. Topical sermons can be excellent sources of learning about one topic and getting a wide view

11:46 - WHAT’S YOUR NEXT STEP? FIND OUT THE STYLE: Take notes at church and see if you can tell the sermon’s style. 12:44 - THANK YOU & WRAP UP

Loneliness is feeling alone, isolated, helpless, and cut off from others. Biblically dealing with loneliness requires focusing on our relationship with God, our Christian community, and serving others. Only a genuine relationship with Jesus cures loneliness.

00:00 - Introduction

1:04 - LONELINESS IS FEELING ALONE, ISOLATED, HELPLESS, AND CUT OFF FROM OTHERS.

Everyone feels lonely at some point in their lives. GOD CREATED HUMANS IN HIS IMAGE AND TO BE IN RELATIONSHIP WITH HIM AND OTHER HUMANS.

1:40 - SYMPTOMS: Loneliness is marked by sadness, longing, and a yearning to be with someone. CAN LEAD TO: Anger, irritability, clinical depression, and suicidal feelings.

2:38 - LONELINESS IS NOT THE SAME AS BEING ALONE. A PERSON CAN BE ALONE WITHOUT BEING LONELY OR FEEL LONELY IN A CROWDED ROOM. FEELINGS OF LONELINESS CAN LEAD TO TEMPTATIONS.

4:50 - SOLITUDE REDUCES THE “NOISE” AND BUSYNESS OF LIFE. SOLITUDE CLARIFIES OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD AND NOURISHES OUR SPIRITUAL LIFE.

6:34 - SEVERAL GROUPS ARE AT RISK FOR LONELINESS

10:20 - WHAT ARE SOME WRONG WAYS OF DEALING WITH LONELINESS? “Self-medicating” through: Sexual sin, purchasing “things” to give yourself an emotional lift, substance abuse

13:41 - HOW CAN WE HANDLE LONELINESS BIBLICALLY? JESUS UNDERSTANDS OUR FEELINGS OF LONELINESS (HEB. 4:15). On the cross, Jesus felt the ultimate loneliness: “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” (Matt. 27:46). Because of Jesus’ death, we can experience a relationship with God through the indwelling Holy Spirit!

15:48 - CAN ANY GOOD COME OUT OF OUR LONELINESS? LONELINESS FORCES US TO HAVE AN UTTER DEPENDENCY ON GOD FOR EVERYTHING. Corrie Ten Boom - “You can never learn that Christ is all you need until Christ is all you have.”

17:33 - HOW CAN WE DEAL WITH LONELINESS BIBLICALLY? FOCUS ON 3 RELATIONSHIPS:

18:38 - 1. GOD: through prayer and Scripture

19:54 - 2. COMMUNITY: God made you for intimacy with other humans and a need to feel like you belong somewhere.

21:18 - 3. SERVING: Re-channels your self-focus onto others.

23:30 - MAKE A PLAN: Planning is helpful if you see times you know you will be lonely.

24:48 - SO WHAT? EMBRACE YOUR LONELINESS AS AN ELEMENT OF YOUR SPIRITUAL MATURITY. CONCENTRATE ON TODAY. Whatever the cause of loneliness, for the Christian, the cure is always the same—the comforting fellowship of Christ.

28:36 - NEXT STEP: MAKE A PLAN!

29:38 - Thank you and wrap up

Envy and jealousy are rebellions against God’s provision and the opposite of love. We must transform our minds by “putting off” envy or jealousy and “putting on” being satisfied with God’s provisions for our life through three steps.

*NOTE: We had some issues with Bob’s mic on this episode. Thanks for bearing with us!

00:00 - Introductions

1:20: - WHAT ARE THE DEFINITIONS OF ENVY AND JEALOUSY?

-ENVY WANTS WHAT SOMEONE ELSE HAS.

-JEALOUSY IS A FEAR THAT ANOTHER PERSON WILL TAKE AWAY WHAT IS YOURS.

-Both are self-centered, unloving, and destructive emotional problems

2:05 - WHAT CAUSES ENVY AND JEALOUSY? Pride, comparing yourself to others, putting too much value on worldly success

3:46 - WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF ENVY AND JEALOUSY? Disappointment with God’s provision, lack of contentment, resentment toward another’s success, hatred

5:32 - WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GOD’S JEALOUSY AND HUMAN JEALOUSY?

-God is the creator and owner of everything.

-His creations should worship and serve him alone.

-God is right to be jealous when his people worship idols instead of giving him the worship that belongs to Him alone.

7:08 - ENVY IS ULTIMATELY A REBELLION AGAINST GOD’S PROVISION AND THE OPPOSITE OF LOVE.

-Love rejoices over the good of another (Luke 12:15)

-Envy can be overcome by choosing to celebrate another person’s good fortune and speaking of their good qualities.

8:36 - OVERCOMING ENVY AND JEALOUSY MEANS TRANSFORMING YOUR MIND.

  • By “putting off” envy or jealousy…

-And “putting on” satisfaction with God’s provisions for your life.

9:55 - Remember: “Even the people that have something you want want something too!”

12:18 - THREE STEPS TO OVERCOME ENVY OR JEALOUSY:

  1. LOVE: UNDERSTANDING GOD’S LOVE FOR US

-Scripture helps us understand that God loves us, so we don’t need to seek love in other things.

14:39 - 2. CONTENTMENT

If you are not content, you are questioning the sovereignty of God.

DEVELOP A LIFESTYLE OF GRATITUDE AND WORSHIP

16:59 - 3. LOVE: LOVE OTHERS AS GOD LOVES YOU

18:24 - WHAT’S YOUR NEXT STEP? PRAY FOR SOMEONE WHO YOU ARE JEALOUS OF!

19:37 - Thank you and wrap up.

Everyone suffers at some time in their lives. The correct response to suffering is turning towards God. Only Christianity adequately explains and makes sense of both the cause and cure for evil and suffering in our world. Jesus suffered to provide us with the possibility of eternal salvation.

0:00 - Introductions

1:11 - SUFFERING IS BEARING PAIN, INCONVENIENCE, LOSS, INJURY. NO OTHER RELIGION DEALS WITH SUFFERING BETTER THAN CHRISTIANITY.

1:53 - WHAT ARE SOME CAUSES FOR SUFFERING?

-Our sin and failure

-Other people’s sins

-Forces outside of our control (“natural evil”)

-Christian persecution

3:33- REGARDLESS OF THE SOURCE OF SUFFERING, NOTHING HAPPENS OUTSIDE OF GOD’S SOVEREIGN CONTROL

3:54 – HOW DO PEOPLE RESPOND TO TRIALS? Blame, deny, self-pity, embittered.

5:08- THE CORRECT RESPONSE TO SUFFERING IS TRUSTING AND YIELDING TO GOD (JAMES 1:2-4). Asking God to walk with us (Ps. 34:18).

6:50- WHY WOULD A GOOD GOD ALLOW SUFFERING IN THE WORLD WHICH HE CREATED? CRITICS OF CHRISTIANITY ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR GIVING US A “BETTER” ANSWER THAN OURS. CHRISTIANITY EXPLAINS BOTH THE CAUSE AND THE CURE FOR EVIL AND SUFFERING. SUFFERING DOES NOT MEAN THAT GOD DOES NOT LOVE US!

9:25 - JESUS KNOWS SUFFERING FIRSTHAND

-He was crucified for us so we can have eternal life with him.

10:46 - HOW CAN ANY “GOOD” COME FROM OUR SUFFERING? “We can ignore even pleasure. But pain insists upon being attended to. God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pains: it is his megaphone to rouse a deaf world.” ― C.S. Lewis, The Problem of Pain. GOD ALLOWS SUFFERING TO STRENGTHEN OUR FAITH AND CONFORM US TO BE MORE LIKE JESUS.

14:11 - WHAT RESOURCES DO WE HAVE TO DEAL WITH THE SUFFERING IN OUR LIVES? 1. PRAYER: laments, confession, forgiving.

15:53 - 2. THE BIBLE: saturating your heart with the Word will help control your emotions. Memorize three verses about suffering: Romans 8:28, James 1:2–4, and 1 Peter 1:6–9

16:59 - 3. THE HOLY SPIRIT: the third Person of the Godhead. Romans 8:26, Romans 8:18.

18:56 - 4. OTHER PEOPLE (Gal. 6:2).

20:03 - 5. STORIES OF SUFFERING: other Christians have suffered well (1 Pet. 5:9-10; 4:12-13).

21:58 - SO WHAT? 1. Choose joy. 2. Have an eternal perspective. 3. The Christian God knows firsthand about suffering (Heb. 4:15).

25:19 - NEXT STEP: READ ROMANS 8. Choose one truth to pray about or share with a friend!

26:26 - Thank you and wrap-up

Anger is God-given energy that can help us solve problems and show compassion. Believers are to be angry when God is dishonored or we witness injustice and wicked acts.

Unhealthy anger violates Scripture or doesn't honor God. James 1:19 gives us an outline for handling anger: be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry. And we can follow four rules of communication: Be honest, stay current, attack problem not the person, act don't react.

0:00 - Opening

0:13 - Introduction to When Life is Hard series

1:32 - Definition of anger

2:10 - Healthy Anger: Example of Jesus's anger in Temple (John 2:13-17)

4:55 - Sinful Anger, "the anger of man, does not produce the righteousness of God." (James 1:20)

6:08 - Causes of sinful anger

7:04 - Handling sinful anger (James 1:19).

8:36 - Quick to hear: listen carefully

10:33 - Slow to speak involves the "Four Rules of Communication" from Ephesians 4:25-32

11:03 - Rule 1: Be Honest (Eph. 4:25)

11:29 - Rule 2: Stay Current (Eph. 4:26-27)

12:02 - Rule 3: Attack the Problem Not the Person (Eph. 4:29-30)

12:46 - Rule 4: Act, Don’t React (Eph. 4:31–32)

14:05 - Be slow to anger: express your anger in a healthy way.

15:24 - Have a contingency plan when you feel sinful anger rising

17:25 - So What? What are our practical takeaways from this episode?

17:48 - Remove yourself from situations and places that bring temptation to become angry.

19:19 - Learn to ignore petty disagreements.

20:17 - Stay away from habitually angry people

21:30 - If you are in a violent or dangerous context with someone. GET OUT and get safe.

22:14 - Next Step This week: (1) Attack the problem and not the person. (2) Ask forgiveness.

23:28 - Thank you and wrap up

*We’re indebted to Faith Church of Lafayette, Indiana for pointing out the “Four Rules of Communication”

The inspiration of the Bible is the last topic of our eight-part series entitled “Putting the Fun in…”. We have put fun into the fundamentals or essential doctrines of Christianity. “Inspiration” refers to the Holy Spirit carrying along the authors to write the very words of God.

0:00 - Welcome

1:02 - Inspiration refers to Scripture being God-breathed “All Scripture is breathed out by God…” (2 Tim 316).

2:01 - Inspiration is a mystery. But we know the Holy Spirit “carried along” each author (2 Pet.1:21).

3:00 - It is the words themselves that are inspired. Each biblical book has two authors, God, and a human author.

4:00 - Is there any proof that the Bible is Inspired?

4:15 - The Old Testament is inspired according to the authors.

4:50 - Jesus also confirmed the Old Testament inspiration when he said, “It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.” (Matt. 4:4).

5:14 - Jesus promised the New Testament’s inspiration through the Holy Spirit when he said “[T]he Holy Spirit … will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you” (John 14: 26).

6:04 - New Testament writers also confirm its inspiration. Peter writes, “[O]ur beloved brother Paul also wrote to you … as he does in all his letters … There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures.” (2 Peter 3:15-16).

8:27 - The Bible’s unity points to inspiration spanning 1500 years.

11:25 - Fulfilled prophecy is evidence of inspiration.

12:25 - There are more than 300 fulfilled prophecies about Jesus.

16:03 - So What? Turn to the Bible as the only trustworthy, reliable and errorless source to live a contented and godly life.

18:18 - Wrap up

Jesus’s Second Coming is the seventh topic in our eight-part series on “Putting the Fun In…” the fundamentals or essential doctrines of Christianity.

At some unknown time in the future, Jesus will return to earth. His Second Coming will be a lightning-like descent in the clouds with his angels and glorified saints for all to see. The Second Coming initiates Christ’s judgment of everyone. It also ushers in the new heavens and new earth. The Second Coming reminds us the end could be at any time and for Christians to pursue God-honoring lives.

0:00 - Welcome

2:00 - The Second Coming refers to Christ’s return to earth. Several parties promised Jesus’s Second Coming:

  1. Jesus said, “[Y]ou will see the Son of Man … coming with the clouds of heaven” (Mark 14:62)

  2. Two angels at Christ’s ascension said, “Jesus … will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.” (Acts 1:11)

  3. Several New Testament authors.

3:30 - What’s the big deal about the Second Coming? The Second Coming’s date is unknown, but it will be physical, personal, and sudden.

4:45 - 2 Purposes for Second Coming:

  1. To resurrect and transform everyone for judgment. Jesus will judge and reward each Christian based on how we have lived our Christian lives. The unsaved will be cast into hell.

  2. Jesus will also restore new heavens and new earth (Rev 21:4).

6:50 - So what? How should we respond when no one knows when Christ will return (Matt. 24:36).

7:08 - Non-Christians should consider God’s offer of eternal life through Jesus Christ. Embrace the Judge as your Savior.

8:39 - Christ’s judgment of believers should motivate us to Godly lives. Christ rewards us based on what we have done with the gifts and opportunities he has given us. Am I suffering for Jesus?

13:19 - Wrap up

Christ’s ascension is the sixth topic in our eight-part series, “Putting the Fun in…” the fundamentals (or essential doctrines) of Christianity. After his resurrection, Jesus appeared at least eleven times over forty days to more than 500 witnesses, and then he ascended to heaven (Acts 1:9) in the disciples’ presence (Acts 1:10-11). The ascension marked the end of his ministry on earth. But he has several heavenly roles while we await his second coming.

0:00 - Welcome

1:41 - The events before Christ’s ascension: Crucifixion, Resurrection and Post-resurrection appearances of Jesus

2:30 - There were at least 11 appearances of Jesus post-resurrection to more than 500 witnesses (1 Cor.15:6).

4:07 - Why are Christ’s appearances important?

4:12 - 1. They proved his physical resurrected (John 20:27)

5:24 - 2. Taught his disciples how to interpret Scriptures correctly (Luke 24:27)

6:36 - 3. He promised the Holy Spirit’s coming to empower them (Acts 1:8).

7:22 - Forty days after his resurrection, he ascended to heaven in the presence of the disciples. (Acts 1:9-11).

7:49 - Why is the ascension important?

8:16 - 1. Marks the end of Jesus’ earthly ministry (Heb. 10:12)

8:59 - 2. Beginning of Jesus heavenly roles: Our King (Phil. 2:9-10), High Priest (Heb. 4:140), Mediator (1 Tim. 2:5), and Advocate (1 John 2:1)

9:55 - 3. Christ sends the Holy Spirit to empower disciples

10:13 - 4. Initiates Jesus’s role as Head over the Church (Rom. 12:5).

11:15 - 5. Jesus is preparing a place for us in heaven (John 14:3).

11:24 - 6. It confirms Christ’s Second Coming.

12:09 - So What? We can have confidence before God because Jesus is our heavenly “sympathetic High Priest” (Heb 4:16)

14:49 - Wrap-up.

Jesus’s resurrection is the fifth episode in an eight-part series entitled “Putting the Fun in…” the fundamentals (or essential doctrines) of Christianity. Four indisputable facts prove the resurrection without any valid arguments against it.

0:25 - Introduction

1:23 - Resurrection: Jesus came back to life in a glorified physical body, never to die again (1 Cor. 15:1-4).

2:59 - Why is the resurrection important?

3:10 - 1. Proves Jesus is God.

3:28 - 2. God accepted Christ’s death as a sin offering.

3:38 - 3. It promises future resurrections for all Christians (Rom. 6:4–5)

4:20 - Historical evidence: Four indisputable facts prove the resurrection.

4:30 - 1. Jesus lived and died.

5:00 - 2. Transformed disciples preached in Jerusalem. The only explanation is that they had seen the risen Jesus.

6:00 - 3. Jewish leaders could not disprove the disciple’s message (Acts 4:1-22).

6:35 - 4. The disciples died for their belief (Acts 7:57–60)!

7:18 - “You could die for something false… but you’re not gonna die for something you know is false.”

7:56 - Five arguments against the resurrection

8:56 - 1. First, the disciples did not go to the wrong tomb. Opponents could go to the right tomb and produce Jesus’s dead body.

9:21 - 2. Second, the disciples did not steal Christ’s body (Matt. 28:13) and then die for what they knew was a lie.

10:45 - 3. Third, Jesus did not pass out! This idea is inconsistent with Roman flogging, crucifixion, and spear wound into his side (John 19:32–34).

11:31 - 4. Fourth, mass hallucinations are impossible. Jesus appeared to more than 500 witnesses at one time (1 Cor. 15:6)

12:16 - 5. Fifth, the resurrection cannot be a myth. Myths take more than two generations and geographical isolation. Neither is applicable here.

14:07 - So what? The resurrection is worth praising God for (1 Pet. 1:3-4)!

15:03 - Use this information to talk with others.

15:51 - Wrap up

Substitutionary atonement is the fourth in our eight-part series, “Putting The Fun In...” where we are discussing Christianity’s “fundamentals” (or essentials). Substitutionary atonement is what happened when Jesus died on the cross. He was our substitute, enduring God the Father’s hatred of sin and taking our punishment for our sins. Christ substituted himself for us. And his death atoned or covered our sins. Our accepting him as our Lord leads to salvation.

0:00 - Introductions

2:50 - “Substitutionary” means taking the place of someone else. “Atonement” is the idea of covering—specifically the covering of sin.

4:10 - Atonement involves an innocent party taking on the punishment that was due to a guilty party.

4:25 - Jesus’ death on the cross accomplished three things: Sacrifice, Substitution, and Atonement.

  1. Sacrifice: Jesus chose to die to take the sins of humankind

  2. “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45).

  3. As a shepherd, Jesus sacrifices his life for his sheep (John 10:11) to pay for our sins.

6:14 - 2. Substitution: Christ died as our substitute.

  • In the “Great Exchange,” he took our sins, and we received his righteousness.
  • “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29)

9:35 - 3. Atonement: Jesus blood covers us. Now when God looks at Christians, instead of seeing enemies, he only sees the righteousness of Jesus (2 Cor. 5:21).

10:40 - So What?

  • The substitutionary atonement makes me sick of my sin. God hates sin but also loves humans. When I look at the cross, I see my sins causing Christ’s suffering.
  • I never have to second-guess God’s love again.

14:15 - Thank you and Close

The virgin birth is the third in an eight-part series entitled, “Putting the Fun in...” on the Christian faith’s essentials or fundamentals that all Jesus followers believe. This doctrine is also called the incarnation or virgin conception. The miracle of the virgin conception is an actual historical event. The first chapters of Matthew and Luke’s Gospels describe the miracle. The virgin conception was necessary so Jesus could be born fully God and fully man. And for doubters, there is convincing evidence that it occurred.

0:00 - Welcome and introductions.

2:50 - Matthew 1:18-25 and Luke 1:26-38 present the virgin conception and birth narrative.

3:34 - The virgin conception (or birth) is a miracle. God the Father sent God the Holy Spirit to conceive Jesus in the womb of a virgin named Mary.

5:07 - The Holy Spirit supernaturally conceived Jesus so he would not inherit a sinful human nature. Jesus is one divine person with divine nature and perfect human nature (Phil. 2:6–7).

8:26 - Multiple pieces of evidence prove that the virgin conception occurred.

  1. Joseph’s reaction to divorce Mary after hearing the news.

  2. The accusation that Jesus was illegitimate or “born of sexual immorality” (John 8:41)

  3. The fulfilled prophecy of Isaiah 7:14 of the virgin conception (Matt. 1:22-23).

  4. Matthew and Luke had access to Mary (Luke 1:46-55) and his half-brothers James and Jude (Matt.13:55).

  5. “Why Make It Up?” No devout Jews would not make up such an irreverent story of God conceiving a child if it wasn’t’ true.

15:50 - The virgin conception is the start of the gospel that I need to be sharing with others!

16:43 - Prophecies made 500 years before Jesus’ birth prove God keeps his promises.

17:25 - Thank you and wrap up

The deity of Jesus is the second in an eight-part series. The deity of Jesus is a uniquely Christian doctrine. It refers to Jesus being fully God and fully human.

Jesus needed to be a perfect human to sacrifice himself in our place. That way, he could take our sins and God’s anger at those sins. He also had to be God to have the power to save us.

The deity of Christ is a mystery that finite human minds cannot understand. The more you know about the deity of Christ, the more you appreciate how much God loves every one of us (John 3:16)

0:00 - Introduction and welcome

0:30 - Jesus has two distinct natures. He is both fully God and fully human

1:25 - “Deity” means “having the nature of God.” Christians believe Jesus is “God the Son,” the Second person of the Trinity.

3:26 - But Jesus is completely God (Col 2:9) and fully human. This doctrine is a “mystery.”

6:48 - Jesus is God with his divine nature. When the Holy Spirit miraculously conceived Jesus (virgin conception), Christ took on a second perfect human nature (cf. Phil. 2:5-8).

9:14 - Because Christ has two natures, one question about him is two questions! One refers to Christ’s human (limited) nature and the other to His divine (unlimited) nature.

14:35 - Jesus needed to be fully human and sinless to be our substitute and suffer for humans. He had to be fully God to have the power to save us!

15:57 - So what? We know that Christ’s sacrifice is enough to save us. We also have a sympathetic God who hears and understands us (Heb 4:15), and he has the power to help.

17:37 - Thank you and wrap up.

Our topic today is the Trinity. This topic is the first in an eight-part series entitled “Putting the Fun in…”. We want to have some fun in understanding the “fundamentals” or “essentials” of the Christian faith.

How we understand God profoundly impacts our everyday lives. And Christianity believes in one God, who exists as a Trinity.

The Trinity is three distinct persons (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit). And these three Persons share one divine nature.

The Trinity is a genuine mystery. It is beyond our ability to comprehend completely. But by using analogies like a triangle, we can apprehend enough to know that it is not contradictory.

0:00 - Opening, Welcome and introduction

1:23 - Christianity believes in only one God (monotheism) (Deut 6:4; Mark 12:29). But our one God exists as a Trinity.

2:37 - “Trinity” or “Tri-Unity” means “Three-in-One” and is a mystery beyond our finite understanding.

3:19 - God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are the members of the Trinity. Some passages mention all three together (Matt. 3:16-18; 28:18-20)

4:35 - We cannot comprehend the Trinity altogether. But we can “apprehend” enough through analogies to show it is not contradictory.

5:05 - While no analogy is perfect, a triangle is illustrative.

7:17 - So What? The Trinity is supremely relational. The three Persons have been in community eternally. But that same God invites us into that relationship!

8:34 - The Trinity should radically change how we worship & pray.

  • We are praying to God our Father--who cares for us and knows his plan for our lives
  • Through the Son--That’s why we often end prayers “In Jesus’ name” because Jesus is the one who stands before God for us
  • And by the power of the Holy Spirit (Rom 8:26)

10:10 - Thank you and wrap up

*NOTE: We had some issues with the audio for this episode. Thanks for bearing with us.

What happens to us when we die? What is our ultimate destiny? This episode concludes our series on the Christian worldview by considering where we end up after this life. The Bible teaches Christians go to heaven. Non-Christians’ are forever quarantined from God’s presence in hell through their own choice.

1:24 – Definition of a worldview

1:44 – “GO HOME”

2:25 – Christian perspective of our destiny or what happens after we die.

3:45 – At Christ’s Second Coming (Acts 1:10–11), Christians will receive new bodies reunited to our souls (1 Cor. 15:20-23, Col. 1:18) the same way Jesus resurrected from the dead with a glorified body.

4:39 – Glorified physical bodies (1 Cor. 15).

6:02 – Non-Christians resurrected and judged by Jesus (Rev. 20:11-15)

6:26 - There are two judgments at Christ’s Second Coming.

9:30 - There are two eternal destinies

11:52 – Tragically, everyone in hell is separated from God’s light, love, joy, and peace for eternity.

13:13 – So What? Passionately share the gospel.

14:54 – As Christians, our actions affect future rewards in heaven. Everything we do for God’s glory, he will reward.

15:58 - Thank you and wrap up

Everyone wants their life to have meaning. But how do we accomplish this? The Bible states every human life is created in God’s image and is of infinite value. Therefore, our “meaning” results from us cultivating an intimate relationship with God based on knowing, serving, and worshipping him.

0:00 - Binmin introduction

2:20 - Worldview: how you perceive the world: how you take in the data of life, interpret it, think about it, make decisions and act.

2:40 - A worldview answers six important topics: “G.O. H.O.M.E.”

G is for God

O is for Origin

H is for Humanity

O is for “Ought” (Morality)

M is for Meaning

E is for End (Destiny)

3:44 - Many people seek meaning in appearance, jobs, money, sexual conquests, power.

4:26 - King Solomon, summed up: “Vanity of vanities...all is vanity” (Ecclesiastes 1:2).

4:55 - Even selfless efforts for caring for others or bringing justice don’t fully accomplish our purpose!

5:24 - God created humans in his image (Gen. 1:26-28). We find our greatest joy in life by knowing, serving, and worshipping him.

5:52 - Since Adam and Eve’s sin, we don’t naturally want to worship him.

6:55 - Our meaning is knowing, serving, and worshipping God.

7:00 - Saint Augustine: “Our hearts are restless until they rest in You” because “You have made us for Yourself.”

7:25 - Loving God with all our hearts, souls, and minds and our neighbors as ourselves--that’s how Jesus sums up the whole law and our purpose (Matt. 22:37-39).

8:12 - Blaise Pascal wrote about a God-shaped vacuum (an “infinite abyss”) in our hearts (Pensees, sec. 148).

10:33 - Technology and entertainment continually distract us.

11:47 - Two extremes: distraction or despair.

12:46 - Romans 12:1-3 on “knowing, serving, and worshiping God.”

13:36 - We get to “test out” how good God’s will is for us is by doing it every day!

14:28 - Knowing God: an intimate love-relationship with Him (John 17:3)

17:22 - Serving God: being like Jesus, who “came not to be served but to serve” (Mark 10:45).

18:22 - Worshiping God: Sunday worship and also responding to God’s worth with “all of our hearts, souls and minds” (Matt. 22:37).

20:08 - So what?:

  • Know: Extra time this week reading his Word.
  • Serve: Find someone to pray for this week.
  • Worship: Before a task, tell God: “God, I am going to worship you as I do this”

21:57 - Bob’s story reading 1 John 2:17

23:57 - Thank you

How do you know what is right vs. wrong or good vs. evil? What standard do you use to determine what you “ought” to do or what you ought to value? Morality is an integral part of your worldview. And every worldview must answer this and other important questions remembered by the mnemonic “GO HOME.” These correspond to God, Origins, Humanity, Ought (Morality), Meaning, and End (Destiny).

This episode concentrates on Ought (or Morality). What standard do we base our moral decisions? Is it an absolute standard established in the character and nature of God revealed in the Bible? Or do we make ethical decisions based on ever-changing guidelines?

0:00 - Binmin introduction

0:14 - Welcome and introductions

1:23 - How do we determine right from wrong? How do you respond to people who disagree with you?

2:18 - The definition of a worldview is how you perceive the world around you. It’s how you take in the data of life, interpret it, think about it, make decisions and then act.

2:41 - “GO HOME” mnemonic for remembering important worldview topics.

G is for God:

O is for Origin:

H is for Humanity:

O is for “Ought” (Morality)

M is for Meaning

E is for End (Destiny)

3:37 - Morality is how you decide between what is right vs. wrong or good vs. evil. The question is whether the standard for making moral choices is absolute or relative.

4:03 - People who believe in relativism believe that morality depends on an ever-changing standard. Their moral decisions have no fixed basis. They base their moral actions on ever-changing standards based on culture or people, or situations.

4:18 - Christians believe there is an absolute standard for what is right vs. wrong or good vs. evil (i.e., morality). An absolute standard means permanent values and duties built into the world that spans all places and all people.

4:30 - God is the ultimate source of what is right vs. wrong or good vs. evil. The absolute standard for the moral law is grounded in God’s character and nature revealed in Scripture. An “absolute” moral law applies to all people at all times, in all places, and under all circumstances, whether we like it or not! And these laws are evidenced in the Bible. For example, in the Old Testament, we have the Ten Commandments (Exod. 20) and Christ’s teaching of the Beatitudes (Matt. 5:1-12)

5:51 - The Bible is sufficient for living out the Christian life and obedience to God (2 Pet. 1:3). And situations not covered in Scripture, taking time to study usually yields us the answer.

7:26 - DISCLAIMER: WE LOVE TACO BELL, BUT TACO BELL DID NOT SPONSOR THIS EPISODE!

7:49 - How can we follow God’s absolute moral standard in our lives? By recognizing we come up short (Matt 22:37-40), and because we fail to keep God’s laws come up short. That is why Jesus took on our sins when he died for us. And now, if we place our faith in Christ, we are counted as having his obedience.

9:03 - When you become a Jesus follower, you are indwelt by the Holy Spirit who empowers us to live a more Christ-like life if we choose.

10:24 - God has given us several tools to be able to follow his moral law. They include the Bible, prayer (Jas 1:5), and Godly counselors.

12:49 - As Christians, we cannot check our morals at the door. Every action in public life reflects on God.

14:21 - Our lives as Christians should be marked by real love, including those who can be challenging.

15:16 - Thank you and wrap-up

A worldview is a fundamental way you view the world and affects every decision you make. Your worldview covers at least six essential topics: God, Origins, Humanity, Ought (Morality), Meaning, End (Destiny), or "GO HOME." Today's topic is Humanity.

What is the role of humans in the universe? Are we special? If we are unique, why is that? Only Christianity provides realistic answers to these substantive questions.

God created humans in his image (Gen 1:27), which explains our unique role in the universe. And despite broken fellowship with him in the Garden of Eden, God has provided a way for every person to experience what it means to be fully human through accepting Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

0:00 - Binmin intro

0:14 - Welcome and introductions

1:10 - Definition of a worldview. How you perceive the world around you.

1:45 - Mnemonic Acronym that covers six topics of a worldview: "GO HOME"… God, Origins, Humanity, Ought (Morality), Meaning, End (Destiny).

2:20 - Humanity deals with "What are humans and their place in the universe."

2:53 - Humans were specially created by God and made in His image (Gen 1:27).

4:04 - By bearing God's image, all human life, regardless of age or stage of life, ethnicity, or gender, has deep intrinsic value.

4:42 - But sin afflicts all creation introduced by Adam and Eve's rebellion and spreading to every human since. Sin brought death and separation from God into the world. But God is holy and just and cannot be in the presence of evil, so sinners must be quarantined from God eternally.

5:36 - What's the answer? Only God could solve the problem. He did this by sending Jesus to earth as a perfect human who willingly died as a sacrifice on the cross. As our substitute, Jesus took on our sins and punishment and paid our sin debt to God. So by accepting Christ as our Savior, we can spend eternity with God.

7:21 - Jesus is the one who rescues the image of God in us! By accepting Christ as our Savior, we can become more fully human.

7:58 - So what? Why does a proper understanding of humanity matter at all? First, we are not a random collection of atoms bumping into each other until we decay and die. Since humans are created in God's image, all humans should be valued, loved, and respected.

8:58 - Everyone needs the Gospel. We can only rescue the image of God within us by accepting Jesus. God alone transforms us. And across the world, we see God manifest among fellow believers until, in his eternal kingdom, God's glory is everywhere.

10:08 - Thank you and wrap-up

A worldview is the fundamental way you view the world and affects every decision you make. Your worldview answers at least six questions about topics that affect the way you take in data, process it, make decisions, and then act. Today’s episode discusses God and Origins.

A worldview is like a pair of eyeglasses putting the world around us into focus. The proper prescription helps us see everything clearly, the wrong prescription of scratched or marred lenses distorts the world and can give us the wrong information.

A worldview asks six questions remembered by the mnemonic “GO HOME”. Today we are going to discuss the first two questions relating to God and Origins (where do we come from).

0:00 - Binmin intro

0:14 - Welcome and introductions

0:57 - A worldview is the fundamental way you perceive the world around you.

1:27 - Analogy of eyeglasses helps understand a worldview. Only one prescription is correct, and any other prescription is wrong. Similarly, only theism and specifically Christianity is the one correct worldview to view the world around you.

2:18 - Every worldview must address six topics: “GO HOME”: God, Origins, Humanity, Ought (i.e., morality), Meaning, End (i.e., destiny).

3:52 - God: God’s existence and attributes determine the seven worldviews: theism, atheism, pantheism, polytheism, finite godism, panentheism, and deism. Only theism’s Christianity is true.

4: 36 - Christians believe in one God (monotheism) who exists as a Trinity (Father, Son-Jesus, and Holy Spirit). And we believe Jesus is fully God and fully human. These distinguishing beliefs are mysteries beyond our “comprehension.” But through analogies, we can “apprehend” them sufficiently to show that they are not contradictions.

8:00 - What are God’s attributes? An attribute is an inherent characteristic of a person or Being. We only know God’s attributes because of the Bible. God is an uncaused, self-existent Being (Ex. 3:14). He is an invisible Spirit (John 4:24) who is eternal (Rev. 1:8, 17), omnipresent (Psa 139:7-12), omniscient (Job 38:39; Rom. 11:33–36), and omnipotent (Job 42:2). God is also sovereign (Exod. 20:2-3) and absolutely perfect. The only Being worthy of being worshipped.

11:10 - Origins “Where did the universe and humans come from?"

11:29 - There are only four possibilities for the existence of the universe.

12:16 - Problems arise in discussions about the origin of the universe.

12:30 - The universe logically could not be caused by nothing or “self-caused” because these choices are contradictory.

13:03 - But some worldviews believe in a universe that has existed for an infinite number of moments.

13:26 - An infinitely old universe is impossible because of the First and Second Laws of Thermodynamics.

14:22 - An infinitely old universe is mathematically impossible. In a real physical universe, an infinite number of moments cannot be traversed.

15:04 - The only answer to our universe’s origin is that it was caused (created) by an eternal and uncaused Creator God. And that is what the Bible says is true.

15:45 - So what? Why is it important that Christians believe in these concepts about God and Origins?

16:02 - A Christian God can give us confidence and security

17:01 - The eternal communion within the Trinity and Jesus being fully God and fully human means that our God desires a personal relationship with humans. Christ’s love for us and willingness to die for our salvation is unlike any other religion.

As Christians, we spend most of our lives around people who don’t share our faith. How can we reflect Jesus in every area of our public and private lives? Or should we only manifest our beliefs in private and remain agnostic in public?

In this first podcast of a two-part series discussing cultural engagement, we will discuss how Christians can live out their spiritual lives within our broader culture profoundly affected by secularization. Christians regularly interact in seven cultural streams. These include family, church, workplace, community, government, education, and the arts.

10:28 - What are the healthy ways to interact with the world around us?

14:15 - Why is it necessary to engage with culture?

16:45 - So what? Living in the real world with non-Christians allows us to show a better way to live because God has changed us. The best thing we can offer others is Christ.

18:50 - Take time this week to look around and see where God has us. Find one way God can use you to give, create, or speak to point others to God.

19:27 - Thank you and wrap-up

Christianity has defended its claims against criticisms for more than 2000 years. And there are better reasons for believing in Christianity than any other belief system. This podcast introduces apologetics or pre-evangelism, the discipline that rationally defends Christianity against critics and provides reasons to place your faith in it.

Have you ever faced challenging questions about Christianity? Have others wanted to know why you believe Christianity is the only true religion? Apologetics or pre-evangelism removes obstacles for people struggling with questions about Christianity. It answers the hard questions and provides reasonable answers to why Christianity is true and other worldviews are not. It is not the same as evangelism, although the two often work together. This episode introduces apologetics and discusses its relationship to evangelism.

3:19 - Explaining the relationship between apologetics and evangelism

17:20 - So what? Apologetics allows us to enter spiritual conversations, removes obstacles, and it shapes culture

Would you like to make Bible reading more enjoyable, understandable, and applicable? Our two-part Bible study series on using the CIA method concludes with Interpretation and Application.

The CIA method of Bible study includes Context-Interpretation-Application. In part one, we discussed the literary and historical context. In this episode, we are learning about "Interpretation" and "Application."

Many people are surprised to learn that there is only one interpretation of a particular verse or passage. And that is the author's intended meaning for his original audience. Once this is known, we seek the underlying universal principle or eternal truth and apply it to our lives today.

0:00 - Binmin Intro

0:13 - Welcome and introductions

1:00 - Biblical hermeneutics/ exegesis CIA: Context-Interpretation-Application in that order

1:36 - Review of both Literary and Historical Contexts

5:13 - Application of Scripture is finding the underlying universal or eternal message to apply to us today

8:45 - So What? Scripture gives us direction

10:11 - So What? Scripture protects us from false beliefs and sinning

10:44 - So What? Scripture stokes love for God and others

13:14 - Thank you and wrap up
