Also find SpinProof on Twitter & Facebook to join the conversation..
Today Denise is joined by investigative journalist from The Klaxon - Anthony Klan. While they discuss the main news of the week with the 2024 Budget - they also speak about the major parties and why they are captured and incapable of making decisions in the public interest on the issues of our times. A very worthwhile Friday end of week chat.
After a large and unsettling week Denise reaches out to SpinProof regulars Noely Neate and Cheryl Kernot where they talk about the dreadful events of the week at Bondi Junction and at a Church in Sydney's south west. They speak about the underfunding of vital services such as mental health care - particularly when funding seems so available for defence. They also spend some time on the media's role in these events - and the focus social media has attracted. A wide ranging conversation which is worth listening to.
This week Denise speaks with author and journalist - Lech Blaine. They discuss his latest Quarterly Essay - Bad Cop - about Opposition leader Peter Dutton. Lech tells us not to underestimate his prupose and drive - and makes the point that while 'governing from Opposition' would mean that Peter Dutton doesn't achieve his long held ambition of becoming PM he can still have great impact. They also speak about Peter Dutton's style and tactics suiting the times with the global rise of the populist politician and a media fuelled by conflict and clickbait. A good conversation which is well worth a listen.
This Friday Denise catches up with SpinProof regulars - Noely Neate & Cheryl Kernot. As always, they cover a lot of ground from the Dunkley byelection & the tactics used - to the emerging policy plans including super for housing. They speak about the ABC, its role in our democracy & the need for fact checking. Noely shares an update on QLD poltics & Cheryl speaks about her recent trip to Vietnam - making the interesting observation that they refer to the American War - not the Vietnam War. The overall message from Amanda and Denise - we all have a role to play to move towards the climate and renewables policy settings we need. Well worth a listen.
This week on the SpinProof live podcast, Denise speaks with journalist Nick Feik about his recent 8 month investigation into institutional child sexual abuse in Tasmania & their recent state-wide inquiry into these decades long issues. Even though the findings of the inquiry were highly disturbing - the many issues raised are still inexplicably occurring today. Every Australian should know about this. Content warning.

We speak about this weekend's massive March 4 Justice taking place around Australia - & how to then turn this rising momentum into meaningful change. We look at the community minded Independents movement which is also gaining strong traction right across the Country (no co-incidence with the also women led March 4 Justice??). Well worth a listen for tangible ideas on how each of us can step up & take greater responsibility for the state of our democracy.

We hear why they formed their groups, what they do - & about the huge media & community support they're attracting. Well worth a listen. It's democracy in action!
