In this episode of Watch God Work with Lawrence Adjah, I share some great personal news, which is my nephew Eli giving his life to Christ. While the focus is on the God's hands in the entire experience, we discuss ways in which parents, uncles, aunts, God parents, and older siblings like you and I can engage with children around their faith.

📣👊🏿 In view of Art Basel 2021, in this week's episode of Watch God Work, we welcome our sister Genesis Tramaine. Genesis is a Brooklyn born devotional artist, who creates art to both communicate the gospel of Christ and to communicate (devotion) her love of God.
We discuss art as devotion, using everything you have, the gift of black womanhood, finding strength in structure, being alone with God, and much more.
Genesis Tramaine is an expressionist devotional painter who creates abstract portraits of men and women who transcend gender, race, and social structures. She digests the everyday and regurgitates it as work that evokes déjà vu, beckoning memories of past lives and glimpses of undiscovered futures. The blueprint of Genesis’ style is rooted in strong mix of 1980’s urban New York graffiti, and imagined images of gospel hymns sung on Sunday morning during church.
Tramaine paints with a confrontational and provocative use of color and through an urban-inspired, mixed-media approach. The artist describes her practice as focused on the shape and definition of the American Black Face, explaining that her subject’s exaggerated features capture the spirited emotions of the untapped, underrepresented soul of Black people through a mixture of acrylic and oil-based paintings.
Tramaine’s work is also powerfully influenced by Bible verses and other readings she studied in church. Her spiritual influences have a strong impact on the composition and depth of her paintings, which explore deeply human themes including ethics and insanity, the mundane and the inhumane, spirituality, sexuality, and sentimentality.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, Tramaine earned her M.S from Pace University and B.S from Utica College of Syracuse University. Tramaine has exhibited nationally and internationally, including an inaugural solo exhibition with Almine Rech in London in February 2020, ‘Parables of Nana’, as well as exhibitions at Richard Beavers Gallery, Brooklyn, NYC; The Tree House, Governors Island, NYC; The Salt Space, Chelsea, NYC; The Raging Spoon Gallery, Toronto, Canada; AOF Gallery, NYC; and more. Her work resides in prominent museum collections including the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA), Miami and the Contemporary Art Foundation, Tokyo.

Alexis Eke is an illustrator and designer based in Toronto, Ontario. Her clients include Adidas, Nike Jordan, Canada Goose, the Toronto Raptors (designing the art for Vince Carter's retirement tribute), Shea Moisture, the Art Gallery of Ontario, CBC, Globe ––among others. Her design was also the key art for season 4 of Grown-Ish with Yara Shahidi
Inspired by Renaissance portraits and traditional Japanese art, she illustrates Black women in a contemporary light.

Dr. Matisa is the founder of Disrupt(H)ers a women's leadership network empowering and equipping women in ministry and the marketplace to lead their lives with confidence and competence. She’s the author of #Undefeated: Prayer Never Loses, a book that explores the power of prayer in our lives.
Matisa is a leader in the marketplace, published author, and an ordained Elder. She serves in her local church teaching, training and developing ministers, leaders and intercessors. Her most important achievement is that of wife to Mr. Lawrence Wilbon, Business and Development Director at Father’s Inc., and mother to their two beautiful children, Deshawn and Taiya.
Dr. Matisa earned her B.A. in Anthropology/Sociology from Centre College and her Master’s and Ph.D. degrees in Sociology from The Ohio State University.

Mr. Adams was wrongfully convicted of a crime at age 17 and sentenced to 28 years in a maximum-security prison. After serving nearly ten years and filing multiple appeals with the assistance of the Wisconsin Innocence Project, the Seventh Circuit United States Court of Appeals exonerated him.
Jarrett M. Adams, Esquire, is an author and attorney specializing in criminal defense, civil rights, and wrongful conviction cases in state and federal courts.
He used the injustice he endured as inspiration to become an advocate and attorney for the underserved and often uncounted. A decade after gaining his freedom, Jarrett Adams decided to tell his whole story in his eagerly anticipated book:Redeeming Justice: From Defendant to Defender, My Fight For Equity On Both Sides Of A Broken System which is the poignant story of how an innocent young adult of color experienced the injustice of a legal system that purports to provide “justice for all.”
He is also a co-founder of Life After Justice, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to preventing wrongful convictions and developing an ecosystem of support and empowerment for exonerees’ as they rebuild their lives after exoneration. His account of incarceration, exoneration, and redemption has been featured widely in the media, and he has become a sought-after motivational speaker for athletes, students, inmates, attorneys, and others.

He currently serves as the Founder and Executive Director of CBG Arts, which is an LA based 501c3 non profit that works with schools, organizations and partners to educate, edify and enlighten by using the arts.
Brandon also serves as the Regional Training Manager for Sandy Hook Promise & Artistic Director of Inglewood Theater Group. He has been writing & directing plays for the last 18 years. He started teaching in 2007 when he accepted the position at Washington Prep HS and then as Artistic Director of ICEF Public Schools. For 5 consecutive years his students won first place in one of the city-wide theater festivals. January 2012 he had the opportunity to direct the opening act for the Michael Jackson Tribute that took place in front of the Kodak Theater sharing the stage with greats such as Quincy Jones, Smokie Robinson, Justin Beiber & the Jackson family.
His impact on the arts and the community led him to receive the JP Morgan CHASE Bank Center Theater Group Fellowship Award which gave him the opportunity to study under great Broadway directors in New York and take playwriting courses with Music Theater International. His original play, “Flashing Lights” took the city by storm selling over 3,000 tickets during the first weekend of the workshop run. Rainey has led several touring groups and his work has been in theaters, churches, high schools, and colleges across the nation.

Marcus has served in education, non-profit, state and federal domains for 15 years, serving in the office of Former First Lady & Senator Hillary R. Clinton as an intern, then as Executive Director of (ACAP) The Accounting Career Awareness Program; Race to the Top Grant Program Manager for Rainier Beach High school; Director of Community Engagement for the Washington State Charter School Association, and currently serves as Principal/Lead Learner of the Academy for Creating Excellence an aspiring educational model that focuses on cultivating the innate excellence inside of African American males.
ACE launched in 2012, offering educational workshops in Seattle. In 2016, in partnership with the City of Seattle Department of Early Learning and South Shore K–8, it hosted its first three-month Summer Learning Experience. In the London Olympics she recorded the fastest European time in 100 and the 10th fastest time overall.

Three-time GRAMMY® Nominee DOE (a.k.a. Dominique Jones) is an exceptional songwriter, musician and inspirational singer. She recently released a new single “Good Now (Remix)” feat. Wande in honor of Women’s month.
Born in Washington State and raised in Shreveport, Louisiana, DOE grew up in the church with both sides of her family involved in the Gospel circuit. The world was first blessed by her angelic and soulful voice when she was a teenager and the lead singer of the group Forever Jones, which is composed of her parents, her two brothers, her two sisters, and DOE herself. It is also as part of this group that she gained her first two Grammy nominations.
Her third came when she became a featured artist in Jonathan McReynolds’ hit song “Cycles.”
DOE’s first album, a self-titled EP, is available now and features the hit single “Brighter”.

Jimmy grew up in Rochester, New York City which was a big factor in his decision to join the Army when he was 17 years old. He served for 23 years and even until today as a DoD civilian. He created a platform that would connect past and present service members to share their thoughts and be heard.
He completed his Bachelor of Science degree at Liberty University and received a marketing certification from Wharton School of Business. He is also a certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt.
