Patrick Lafcadio Hearn - was born in Greece, raised in Dublin and moved to Japan and became a Japanese citizen changing his name to Koizumi Yakumo. He became fluent in the language and this story comes from his book Kwaidan: Stories and Studies of Strange Things.

Dick Donovan - is the pseudonym of James Edward Preston Muddock or Joyce Emerson Preston Muddock. A journalist and adventurer who wrote a detective series featuring a detective named Dick Donovan that was so successful that started publishing stories under the detectives name. He traveled all over the world, married three times and had ten children.

The Squaw was first publish on December 2nd 1893 in the magazine the Holly Leave the Christmas Number. (This is my kind of Christmas story!)
Bram Stoker of course is famous for bringing us all our knowledge on Dracula and vampires but this Irish author also had a lot of other fun horror up his sleeve.

1874 - is when this story first seems to have been published. Now I have found two versions in my research one published by Edward Page Mitchell and another by Dorothy Scarborough.
Both Authors wrote collections of horror and ghost stories, so we'll give them both credit.

How It Happened - first published in 1913 and I think it's funny that it's subject is "Masculine Pride". That's going to get a guy every time.

This story was first publish in 1911 in a collection of stories about Scottish Ghosts. The author Elliot O'Donnell was an Irish author best known for his ghost stories. He even claimed to have seen a ghost at the age of 5 and to be strangled by a phantom while in Dublin.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN! This episode is about a deadly plague rampaging across the world...hmmm...seemed a perfect and timely story.
This story was first published in 1842 and is written by the OG goth king of spooky stories Edgar Allan Poe. I didn't want to start my podcast with Poe because frankly I think that would be too cliche but I knew this story in particular and this author had to be my halloween episode.

But I always love a ghost ship having grown up on a boat and thinking of the ocean as my home.

A melancholy German student in Paris during the French Revolution what could go wrong?
The Adventures of the German Student was first published in 1824 in Washington Irvings collection "Tales of a Traveler". It apparently has a french inspiration story that has been lost to time.
If you love spooky tales you will be familiar with the American author Washington Irving as the author of Rip Van Winkle and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Hmmm anyone else starting to think he had a fascination for beheading things
Also some fun accents in this one. I love accents but I must admit to do a serious German accent I have to pretend I am Werner Herzog or I end up sounding like Heimlich from A Bugs Life.

E.F. Benson was a prolific English author who brought his talents to a variety of genres including novels, ghost stories, plays and biographies.
I chose this story because it just creeped me out. I don't like bugs and then terrifying paranormal bugs is a big ol' nope. So of course I had to share my discomfort with all of you.
