The Mostly True Music Show is a music history podcast. Adam Senft and Dustin Van Vliet tell the stories behind famous songs, albums, bands and events in music history.
Well... we made it. We've been censored! We talk about that more in the episode. We recorded this episode back in January (yikes) so look forward to some early 2021 references that you probably already forgot about.
In this episode, we talk about our favorite music and podcasts from the year 2020, everyone's favorite year.
Other than that, we discuss fat doctors, streaming services, the Ocean movies, peeing for long periods of time, meeting celebrities, BBQ sauce, Green Day, billboards, oxymorons, the black part of the banana plus banana etiquette, Bigs Taco Bell seeds and WAP (told you this was recorded in January).
Keep calm and stay mostly true.
On this episode of the podcast, Adam and Dustin complete the long awaited Light Beer Showdown... and it wasn't as entertaining as we had hoped. Regardless, we end the episode with some good, ol' fashioned banter that you will be sure to enjoy.
3:15-23:00- Light Beer Showdown
27:03- walkie talkies
30:45- who would win in a fight, Five Finger Death Punch or Avenged Sevenfold?
34:22- cooking and cleaning the kitchen
37:51- Dustin asks Adam, golf or drums?
42:45- Adam's (possibly) diva coffee routine
47:13- who is more iconic, Tiger Woods or Travis Barker?
52:54- weight loss
59:07- what's more valuable, 5000 dollars or free Taco Bell for a year? Lots of Taco Bell and fast food talk to follow.
1:11:28- Dustin mistook a bowl of refried beans for guacamole.
1:15:16- "Come Close" by Saosin gave Adam chills and Hoobastank did the same for Dustin.
On this episode, Adam and Dustin discuss the history and interesting facts behind The (Dixie) Chicks' feminist anthem "Goodbye Earl". We also tackle some important debate topics such as "Coke vs Pepsi", "Del Taco vs Taco Bell" and some music stuffs. Keep your head up.

Welcome back, everybody. In this week's episode, we discuss the song "Sweet Victory" by David Glen Eisley and Bob Kulick. Most people assume this song was written for a certain kid's TV about a sponge who lives in a pineapple under the sea, but we will tell the real story.
Topics include:
"Sweet Victory" (2:20-30:48)
Adam's thoughts, covering Adam's new family addition, Rylie liking heavy music, Dustin's new salsa company Super Rad Salsa, famous people with podcasts, creamed corn, thick liquid, Adam wearing short shorts, the Madonna Inn, "All That's Left is Love" by Angels and Airwaves, Lethal Weapon and Top Gun, vanilla ice cream, drum set ups in TV and movies, fast drivers, TPC Harding Park (30:48-1:38:50)
A sunflower seed debate for the ages (1:38:50-1:44:20)
Apple Music essentials, people pronouncing words wrong on purpose and finally...
The light beer showdown talk. (1:52:28- to the end of the episode)
Until next time.
On today's episode, the boys talk about the beautiful, heart wrenching, plastic surgery laden hit, "I Will Always Love You", originally written and performed by Dolly Parton. We talk about the history behind the song as well as the history behind Whitney Houston covering it.
As always, we talk some randomness after the song. Topics include:
School bus abductions
Taylor Swift's Netflix documentary
Public urinals
Dustin's horrifying run in with a 10 year old bathroom ghost in a public restroom
Dustin's cowboy bathroom story (lots of potty talk this week)
Space
Dustin's morning routine
The new Silverstein album, A Beautiful Place to Drown
The new Beastie Boys documentary
Dustin's band names and what time of day he likes to shower.

Happy 25th episode everybody!
In this episode, we break down the history behind the ever confusing and ultimately delightful "Hey Ya" by Hip Hop superduo, Outkast. The a cappella cover features a very special guest... make sure to check it out!
Per usual, we fight about pizza at the end of the episode. Let us know what your take on the debate was!

Bye.
Hello. In this episode, we break down and discuss Eminem's magnum opus, Lose Yourself. We discuss the similarities and differences between the song, 8 Mile and Eminem's personal life. In the back half of the episode, we go off the rails as usual; talking about everything from blink-182 (shocker, I know), a dark part of Dustin's childhood involving Tiger Woods and lastly, happy happy noodle time.

Adios.
You haven't been asking for it, but here it is. Old Town Road. The boys discuss the song's unlikely success while also covering the controversy that has surrounded the song since it's release. After talking about music, Adam has a few random things he wanted to talk about relating to summertime.

Hello, friends. Welcome to a very long bonus episode that doesn't really feel like a bonus episode because it is the same exact same length as a standard episode. The boys talk about everything going on in their lives as well as a little music talk. They also talk about Angels and Airwaves, blink-182, Ted Bundy and Joe Rogan. Enjoy.
Stay tuned for a fascinating next episode!

Sup dawgs? Happy New February to you all. In this episode, Adam and Dustin discuss "In the Air Tonight" by Phil Collins as requested by Adam's mom (you're welcome, mom). They talk about the history behind the song and how it's managed to stay relevant in today's culture 38 years after it's release. As always, the conversation gets a little silly and wild. The episode ends with an interesting debate on whether today's rock bands should cover classic band's music or just leave them alone... you don't want to miss it!
Peace.

What up, dawg? It's that time. Christmastime is here... You serious, Clark? In this episode, we talk all kinds of nonsense. We hear the story about the Christmas Truce of WWI, talk about our family Christmas food staples, and explain how every Christmas movie basically tells the same story.
Thank you for your continued support! We are not going back to weekly episodes, but more episodes will be coming in the future.

Merry Christmas! Sh*'s full!
Hello. Farewell. Kinda.
This will be our last episode for quite a while! We explain in the episode the reasons why. But we left you with a banger of an episode! We discuss Simon and Garfunkel's classic hit, "The Sound of Silence" and a little bit of the story behind Disturbed's amazing cover of it. This is also Adam's favorite cover that he has done thus far. We also talk about the Drake and Josh smash hit movie, "Really Big Shrimp", so you don't want to miss it.

If we weren't clear enough or you're still confused about what we are doing, I'll explain here again. We are not completely done... but we are for now. We have been releasing one episode a week for 20 weeks and believe it or not, it's a lot of work. So we are going to take a good long break before releasing another episode. It might be a month from now, it might be three months from now. Even we don't know. Also, once we post the next episode, it could be a month or three before we post the next one. We started this podcast so that we could hang out, drink beer, talk about music and have a good time. Once it started to feel like work... I felt like it was time to hit the brakes. I want this podcast to be something special and to almost feel like a little treat whenever it pops up on your phone. Farewell for now.
-Adam
Thank you all for your continued support!
This week, we talk about "The Winner Takes It All" by ABBA. Although not as popular as their other hits such as "Dancing Queen" or "Mama Mia", this song is just as important. This song more or less tells the story of ABBA's demise. You will be pleased.

Ooooooh man. The long awaited battle is finally here. Mayweather Vs. McGregor doesn't even come close to the historical significance of this match up. I Want It That Way. Bye Bye Bye. Who will come out the victor? Who will cower away in shame? (Neither really, both are very successful songs from two very successful bands. Adam and Dustin are the real losers who think they are cool because they have a podcast.) Listen to find out.

Bonus Episode time ladies and germs. We talk about a recent concert we went to, answer an email from a faithful listener, and touch on why we won't be doing an episode on Weezer's classic song, "Hash Pipe".
Have a beautiful Saturday!

This week, we jump into the DeLorean with Doc Brown and Marty to go back in time when we were just baby podcasters. This episode is a re-upload of Episode 1 of our first podcast, The Stool Sample Podcast. We are noticeably more awkward and Adam wasn't very good at editing in the past... sorry for the breathing and mouth noises.
We don't plan on reposting these episodes regularly, but time was not on our side this week and we had no choice.

In this episode, Adam and Dustin discuss the history behind one of the O.G. boy bands, Milli Vanilli. This might be the most embarrassingly pathetic attempt at a music career. Or maybe the scandal was blown way out of proportion. Either way... it was hilarious.

One episode... two songs! This episode, we hear the story behind Shania Twain's ridiculously beautiful classic, From This Moment On. Stay tuned to the end of the episode if you want to hear the a cappella unencumbered by laughter and commentary. In the second half of the episode, we learn the history behind the recording process of Israel Kamakawiwo'ole's mashup of Somewhere Over the Rainbow and What a Wonderful World.
