My guest today says, “If you know your wish, want, and walk figure-you'll walk into any negotiation with less stress and anxiety.”  Joining me on today’s show is Meggie Palmer.  Meggie founded PepTalkHer after her own experience of inequality at work. She’s personally coached women to receive raises as small as an extra $5 an hour (it added up to bed $10kover the year) all the way up to multiple 6 figure raises.   PepTalkHer was founded out of frustration-and possibility. The gender pay gap exists -and data says it’ll take 100s of years for that to change. PepTalkHer was started to take action and galvanize change NOW. Its 5-year mission is to see 50/50 women in leadership and to close the gender pay gap.   On today’s show, Meggie is going to share:

The importance of knowing and remembering your worth

What you can do today to set yourself up for performance review and future pay rise -no matter when your next pay increase conversation is

Hi, this is Annemarie, and welcome to another #ListenerIntoLead podcast tip for coaches and consultants who want to launch a podcast to nurture listeners into leads, get clients and build their business with their podcast. This is tip #12. Have you ever asked the question ‘How can I make sure my podcast stands out?’  You’re not the only one. We’ve all asked ourselves that question.  My answer, there are lots of ways you can make sure your podcast stands out. But boiled down – the shortened answer is: if you want to make sure your podcast stands out - make sure it’s outstanding, in every way. From you being clear on what makes YOU unique and uncopyable in terms of your personal brand, your message, your story, to the unique and uncopyable listener experience you create, to the topics you share on your show, right through to the guests you interview. If your podcast, the topics you speak about and the way in which you bring this information to life – the listener experience) is the same ol same ol that everyone else is doing – your podcast will not stand out. It’ll get lost in the millions of other podcasts. If you’re interviewing the same guests as everyone else – and asking the same questions as everyone else – you podcast will not stand out.  And, as a Change Maker – a coach with a message that will literally transform and bring REAL change to your ideal client life and/or business – I know that's NOT what you want. You were not born to fit in, to be like everyone else, you, your story, your expertise and how you can help your ideal client is MEANT to stand out. So, make sure you continue listening to the rest of these tips in this #ListenerIntoLead with your podcast series. I’ll see you in the next tip.  Post a review and share it! If you learned something by tuning into this podcast, do not hesitate to write a review and share it with your friends. If you’ve listened to one of my podcasts, I’m sure you’ve heard me speak about the importance of being consistent.  In fact, my formula for success, says it all.   THE FORMULA FOR SUCCESS:   Clarity + Consistency, Over Time, WILL enable you to build the Momentum you need to grow a successful business.  But herein lies an issue when it comes to the formula.   With regards to Clarity – I'm talking about being clear on your message – and more specifically a message that works. Because sharing a message that’s not already working with more consistency still won’t work in generating the momentum you need.  Or, another thing that can happen is to consistently share a message that’s NOT aligned with your goals, which can lead you in the wrong direction. So, you become known for something you don’t really enjoy or even want to be known for.  So, in today’s episode I’m sharing:

Two main issues that can occur when you don’t get clarity on your message

What can happen when you don’t have clarity on a clear outcome – and stick to that outcome

5 things you’ll want to get clear on with regards to your message so it keeps you focused on the right message. (Hint: These have been absolutely crucial in helping me maintain consistency in my message).

Hi, this is Annemarie, and welcome to another #ListenerIntoLead podcast tip for coaches and consultants who want to launch a podcast to nurture listeners into leads, get clients and build their business with their podcast. This is tip #11.  What’s in a name?   Everything – because your podcast could just become a saleable asset.   In tip #6, I mentioned how my own message got lost in the noise of my own podcast and I got so bored with the guests I was interviewing that I decided to stop production. I’d had enough.  Now, this was my award-winning podcast, the Ambitious Entrepreneur Show, which not only had won an award but had also been frequently listed in top business and entrepreneurship podcasts.  I was bored and just didn’t want to continue production – so I announced on Facebook that I was stopping production.  Now, a surprising thing happened. Something I did NOT expect, but something that made me realize just how much of a reputation my podcast had built.  I had several messages from people who wondered if I would be interested in selling my podcast.  Would I be interested in selling my podcast – who would have thought that a podcast I had built over the years was something others saw value in and would even express interest in the possibility of purchasing it?  I was gobsmacked.   Long story short – I didn’t sell it and in actual fact, Ambitious Entrepreneur Show is well and truly back in production, has been for some time now, and is again being listed in the top podcasts for entrepreneurship.  However, imagine if I had named my podcast after my personal brand – the Annemarie Cross Show. It would be very difficult for anyone to take over that podcast – unless of course, they rebranded it their own. However, typically if you name your podcast your personal brand your audience is typically people who follow you because of your brand, your charisma, your celebrity if you will – I'll speak more about the Podcast Positioning Quadrant in tip #21, where a podcast with your personal brand name, is going to have a different overall strategy and end in mind that if you called your podcast a name that was able to be taken over by a person or persons who had a similar passion and expertise that could be offered to your audience.  So, how to choose the right name for your podcast?  If you want to build a community of your ideal clients AND potentially build up your podcast to be a valuable asset that down the track someone would be willing to pay you for? It means everything.  Choose wisely.  I’ll see you in the next tip.   Post a review and share it!  If you learned something by tuning into this podcast, do not hesitate to write a review and share it with your friends. In our episode 189, I spoke about the 5 Pillars to an optimal Customer Relationship-Building Funnel for coaches, which when set up correctly can help you:

Build visibility as an influential trusted authority in your industry;

Generate leads with your ideal client; while enabling you to

Enroll your dream client with ease.

I also shared key statements you can ask yourself, to see whether you were on the right track to get these pillars in place. How did you go – were you able to tick all of the statements?   In this week’s episode, I’m going to dive a little deeper into why your Customer Relationship-Building Funnel works so well when you have all of the 5 pillars in place correctly, including:

Why the word ‘funnel’ is not a dirty word but rather can support and empower your ideal client when put together strategically

The 5 reasons WHY your funnel will help you build visibility, generate leads and enable you to enrol your dream clients with ease when created correctly

Hi, this is Annemarie, and welcome to another #ListenerIntoLead podcast tip for coaches and consultants who want to launch a podcast to nurture listeners into leads, get clients and build their business with their podcast. This is tip #10.  How frequently should you publish your podcast?  If you’ve heard my response to tip #9 with that question: How long should your podcast be, I’m going to use the exact same response I gave to tip #9, to this question of how frequently should you publish your podcast, which is: It depends.  Again, there are no rules to podcasting other than the rules you set yourself. And that’s the same when it comes to frequency and how often you should publish your podcast.  The better question would be: What is the overall goal of your podcast and how do you plan on leveraging your podcast to help you achieve that goal?  Also, what time commitment do you have? And, how are you best going to repurpose and leverage your podcast?  One of my alliance partners publishes their podcasts when they have an episode to share. That's because they interview premium members and if they have no new premium members – then there are no interviews. Their podcast was recently listed as #1 for Australian Women in business. And, their podcast continues to be one of the best ways they generate leads and inquiries from potential members for their network.  Another client of mine had NO interest in doing an ongoing podcast, so we created an evergreen podcast series that he leverages as part of his content creation strategy and seed and lead strategy. If he ever decides down the track to do another series, he can. If he were to free up some time and have the desire to start an ongoing more regular podcast publication – he can. It will depend on him and what’s going on in his business.   Another client of mine releases an interview with a guest once a month and has a shorter solo show every other week, so following more of a publication schedule of a podcast every 2 weeks. That best fits her schedule and overall podcast strategy.   So, again how frequently should you publish your podcast? It depends. On you and your overall goals that you want to achieve and how your podcast will help you get there.  I’ll see you in the next tip.    Post a review and share it!  If you learned something by tuning into this podcast, do not hesitate to write a review and share it with your friends. Over the last few months inside my membership program for Coaches - The Influence Alliance, we’ve been spending time on mapping out our strategies for the customer journey – the sequence of strategic steps you take a prospective customer through as they get to ‘know, like and trust you’ and go from lead to paying customer.  Do you have a strategy in place in your coaching business that’ll enable you to build a relationship with a prospective client, nurturing and taking them from just getting to know you, through to a warm lead, through to a customer who can’t wait to begin working with you? So, you become THE choice vs just A choice when they’re ready to move forward?  If you answered ‘no’, or you have a few things in place, but they’re not streamlined, nor are the systems and nurturing funnel you have in place getting the best result for you – you're not alone.  And, I’m not talking about having such a complex funnel that costs you tens of thousands of dollars, and is so confusing – it’s impossible to track and manage.  Simple and streamlined is key.  So, in today’s episode I’m going to expand on the three stages of the customer journey we covered recently by sharing the 5 pillars you want to have in place across the customer journey so you can begin to build ‘know, like and trust’ while generating leads and nurture those leads into paying customers, including:

The 5 pillars to an optimal Client Relationship Building Funnel

What each pillar is and why they are so important

Key questions to ask yourself to ensure you have each pillar in place and what to do next if you don’t

Hi, this is Annemarie, and welcome to another #ListenerIntoLead podcast tip for coaches and consultants who want to launch a podcast to nurture listeners into leads, get clients and build their business with their podcast. This is tip #9.  Another question I’m often asked is: How long should my podcast be?  And, if that’s something you’re wondering too, my answer to you would be: It depends.   You may have heard me say before: there are NO rules to podcasting other than the rules you set yourself. And, those rules are going to depend on various things.  When it comes to the length of the podcast – it depends on a number of facts:  - How long do you need for you to get your message across? If you need 5 minutes – don't stretch it out to 20 minutes because someone’s told you, a good podcast length is 20 minutes.  That’s ridiculous.   Tell your ideal client what they need to know, tell them what the next step is and how they can find out more, and finish it up. If it takes 5 minutes – then 5 minutes it is.  If you need 10 minutes or 20 minutes to share it, it’s concise, it’s compelling, connects with your ideal client and the content in your podcast continues to build know, like, and trust and continues to nurture them along the customer journey – then take 10 minutes, take 20 minutes.

Another thing to consider – who is your ideal client? How long do they have to listen to your content? Are they driven and like people to get to the point? Well, get to the point on your podcast. One of my clients works with C-suite executives who are driven, they want access to thought leadership content when it comes to leading top-performing teams, so she keeps her solo shows, concise and to the point. Her interviews are slightly longer however the conversation is always on point, with actionable insights.

Are they time-poor? Another one of my clients works with busy mums – therefore her podcasts were between 10-15 minutes. Enough time for her to listen as she was driving and picking up her kids from school.

So, how long should your podcast be? How long do you want it to be in order to say what you want to say and share what you want to share in a way that’s going to continue to build know, like and trust and nurture your listener into a lead with your podcast?   That’s how long it should be.  I’ll see you in the next tip.  Post a review and share it!  If you learned something by tuning into this podcast, do not hesitate to write a review and share it with your friends. Hi, this is Annemarie, and welcome to another #ListenerIntoLead podcast tip for coaches and consultants who want to launch a podcast to nurture listeners into leads, get clients and build their business with their podcast. This is tip #8. In tip #7 I shared that one of the most common questions I’m asked by coaches who are thinking of starting their podcast is – where do I start?  The second question I’m often asked is this: What’s the best microphone for my podcast?  The answer is simple: The best microphone is the microphone you have available to you right now.  However, before we even begin to consider technology – one of the questions I asked them is why do you want to start your podcast? And, if the answer is “because I’m just not generating the clients I want and I feel like the world's best kept secret and I’ve heard a podcast will help me get my message out to more people.” that response is a red flag.   Why?  Because if their message isn’t working already, if how they speak about themselves and the services they offer, is not generating interest and inquiries – I would rather focus on getting their message right first and THEN launch a robust podcast strategy to help them expand their reach and visibility with a message that works.  Because a podcast will help you amplify your message BUT if your message isn’t working, your podcast will only amplify your message which is not working for more people, so you’ll end up possibly confusing even more people.  So rather than focusing on the make and model of a microphone – focus FIRST on your message.  That’s because you cannot edit and mix compelling content that converts, you cannot edit and mix content that nurtures listeners into leads from content that doesn’t make sense, that’s not compelling, that speaks directly to the heart of your ideal client and what he/she is struggling with – even if it was recorded on the BEST microphone available.   So, worrying about what microphone to get if your message isn’t already working is the wrong thing to focus on.  The best microphone will depend on a number of factors, so keep that in mind as you continue your research.  But most importantly of all, your MESSAGE and working that out BEFORE you worry about the model and make of microphone is crucial.  I’ll see you in the next tip.  Post a review and share it!  If you learned something by tuning into this podcast, do not hesitate to write a review and share it with your friends. Hi this is Annemarie and welcome to another #ListenerIntoLead podcast tip for coaches and consultants who want to launch a podcast to nurture listeners into leads, get clients and build their business with their podcast. This is tip #7.  One of the most common questions I’m asked by coaches who are thinking of starting their podcast is – where do I start?   So in this tip I want to share what I share with them and with all of my clients and my community.  Where do you start when it comes to your podcast?  You start with the end in mind. But not just ANY end in mind.  But a specific end in mind.  Because specificity is key.  For instance a goal of: “I want to build visibility and brand awareness with my podcast” is not specific.  Nor is, I want to grow my podcast downloads to 1,000 downloads per episode – that's not specific either.   If we look at those two examples – being more specific with the first example of “I want to build my visibility and brand awareness with my podcast’ could become: “I want to build my visibility and brand awareness as a trusted authority as a coach/consultant for high-earning Reals Estate Agents in the commercial real estate space, helping them go from 7-figure to 8-figure deals.   And, if we look at the second example, where originally we said “I want to grow my podcast downloads to 1,000 downloads per episode’ to “I want to build a highly engaged community of multi-six figure coaches who are ready and need support to take their business to 7-figure incomes, with my podcast playing an integral role in my relationship building strategy and constantly growing to 1,000+ downloads per episode.   Both of those examples, I’m sure you would agree when from quite broad statements to specific and highly focused statements.  Why is that important?   Because being specific allows you to be more focused AND strategic in your planning, the content you share, HOW you position yourself, WHERE you share your podcast, the keywords and phrases you use.  It impacts everything.   So, tip #7 when starting a podcast – where do you start? You start with the end in mind – and that end in mind is having clarity AND specificity when it comes to your message and monetization strategy for your podcast.  How clear and specific are you when it comes to your podcast and the overall goals you want?   I’ll see you in the next tip Post a review and share it!  If you learned something by tuning into this podcast, do not hesitate to write a review and share it with your friends. Hey, this is Annemarie, and welcome to another #ListenerIntoLead tip. This is tip #6. And this is the last of the main mistakes that I made when I started my very first co-hosted podcast 13 years ago, which we did for two years, and then even continued to do over the years with the other podcasts that I had.  I'm sharing these mistakes with you so that you can avoid making them and therefore not have to go through the frustration that I did. But rather launch your podcast and start generating real results from your very first episode.   And this tip is not to let your message get lost in the noise of your own podcast. What do I mean by that? Well, I've made this mistake several times across a number of my podcasts.   I see this happen time and time again, going back to one of the other mistakes that I shared with tip #3 and that mistake was comparing podcasts to mainstream radio. Like what I did, I did that and other shows have done that to other podcast hosts and businesses have done that, too. So what they ended up doing was they got together and a number of guests interviewed them and then at the beginning or the end or right in the middle or somewhere along those lines, they would put a little ad in there about their own business and hope that as the host, someone would hear that. Then they would hope that someone would go, "Oh, I need that". Do not let your message get lost in the noise of your own podcast. I had someone else come to me because they had a massive production. They had hired someone that had come from the radio space mainstream radio. That's exactly what they did as well. They interviewed all of these people from business, and then they incorporated ads within their podcast episode, which promoted their particular business, your message is going to get lost in the noise of your own podcast. Get clear on your message, and make sure your podcast is highly niched with the topic and the guests that you have. As I mentioned in a previous mistake, monetize your own message but don't do it in a way where you're getting all of these guests and then you're throwing an ad in there hoping that one of your listeners will go "Yeah, I actually need a fitness coach" or "Yeah, I actually need some financing capital financing for my business". When the topics that you're talking about the guests that you're having, and the overall name and positioning of your podcast are anything but fitness for business professionals, for businesses who want to make a bigger impact in the world, or financing whatever that that demographic of the client is, make sure your podcast is themed and positioned so that you can step up onto that virtual platform and begin to build a high niche audience of your ideal clients that you can continue to build know, like, and trust with. So that was Tip #6, the last of the mistakes. I look forward to speaking with you in the next tip, where I answer some of the questions that I have been asked over the years. I'll see you in the next tip.  Post a review and share it!  If you learned something by tuning into this podcast, do not hesitate to write a review and share it with your friends. One of the podcasts I host and produce is for one of our Podcast Network’s Alliance Partners – Business Women Australia. BWA is an Australian collective of women who are passionate about business success and personal growth.  Many of the conversations I’ve had with the women who are featured on Business Women Australia Podcast are so rich with insights I know have impacted the lives of our audience.    I thought it would be great to feature some of the conversations I’ve had on Business Women Australia Podcast with you, right here on Women In Leadership Podcast.   And, that’s exactly what this show is. A wonderful conversation I had with Kathy McKenzie about the Beauty of Letting Go, how it’s impacted her life, and how it can impact yours.   I hope you enjoy the show!    My guest today says,” Relinquish with love – it’s the only way to transmute suffering.”  Joining me on today’s show is Kathy McKenzie.  Kathy McKenzie is a Master Certified Coach with the International Coaching Federation and Founder and Director of FIREUP Coaching. Her lifelong love of learning serves her to continually explore ways in which she can keep expanding her worldview and connecting with clients in deeper and more meaningful ways.  She shares her joy of travel and living by the beach with her husband John and is currently writing a book called “Relinquish with Love” which explores how to let go of the things in life that hold us back.  On today’s show, Kathy will share:

Hey, this is Annemarie, and welcome to another #ListenerIntoLead tip. This is tip #5, I'm still covering some of the mistakes that I made 13 years ago when I started my very first podcast. It was a co-hosted podcast that started in 2008. Go back to a couple of tips. And I share a little bit more about why I started back in Tip #2, I believe it is, but today, I'm covering tip #5. And that mistake is focusing on building a large audience versus a niched audience. Now previously, I've mentioned that we used to compare our podcast to mainstream radio, it really was the only thing that we can compare it to. We think an audio radio podcast is audio obviously now there's a video as well and live to stream. But back then it wasn't. I know even over the number of years that I've continued podcasting, one of the questions that I'm often asked, is do you have sponsors on the show? And I would say 99.99% of the time, I say no, we don't because I recognize the value of a highly niched audience. And I know that the know, like, and trust that I have built with my community, with my listeners, I do not want to break because all of a sudden I've got these random ads from organizations that have paid me pittance in comparison to if my audience steps into my programs, VIP coaching programs, but training and such highly niched audience is much better than a large audience. And I've said it before, I'll say it again, I would much rather have a high niche, more highly engaged, a smaller audience of my ideal clients who love what I talk about, who are benefiting from it, who are hiring me, who are sharing my content, and recommending me to their colleagues and people that they know that would potentially need my services, than having a huge audience of people that maybe are enjoying the content, however, they're not really taking action, they're not hiring me, they're not generating any leads for me or even referrals and recommendations of my ideal clients. I always say to speak to an audience of one. And when you really are speaking, beautifully cutting through the noise for that audience of one. That audience of one and will become four, become eight and 16, and so on and so forth. So, mistake number five, focusing on building a large audience versus what you should be doing, focusing on building a niche audience. And that means it could be a smaller niche audience. But a smaller niche audience that is more highly engaged, is ultimately going to allow you to monetize your own message, which I talked about in tip #4, rather than monetizing someone else's, which is something that you should be focusing on to monetize your own message. So hope that tip was helpful. Don't focus on building a large audience. Vanity numbers are not bankable. Rather focus on building a niche audience that is far more highly engaged and more likely to hire you. As you continue to build know, like, and trust. I'll see you in the next tip.  Post a review and share it!   If you learned something by tuning into this podcast, do not hesitate to write a review and share it with your friends. Hi, this is Annemarie, and welcome to another #ListenerIntoLead tip. This is tip #4, which are the mistakes I made 13 years ago when I started my very first podcast.  This tip follows on from tip #3 – comparing and thinking a podcast is like mainstream radio, which is not. Your podcast audience, especially if you are attracting a niched audience of your ideal clients – can be far more engaged than a large audience of people just listening for entertainment or easy listening, which is what you would typically find with a radio station.  Which leads to the next mistake my cohost and I made, which is to assume in order to best monetize your podcast - you do that through advertising and sponsorships.  Don’t get me wrong – sponsors are certainly a way to monetise your podcast and can work well if you have a specific business model that is best suited to sponsorships.  However, for a service-based business – a coach with expertise in your podcast is better positioned to continue to showcase your expertise, while creating an audience of your ideal clients who you can continue to build know, like and trust and then begin to nurture listeners who are ready to make that next step, nurture them into leads by getting them off your podcast and onto your list. I share more about that in my Profitable & Purposeful Podcasting Masterclass about this exact step I use on my podcast and now teach all of my clients. I’ll share the link so you can get access to the Masterclass at the end of this tip.  Building a community of your ideal client, continuing to build know like and trust, and nurturing listeners into leads and ultimately customers is how you monetize your podcast. You monetize your message.  I’ll share more in upcoming tips in this series.  Post a review and share it!   If you learned something by tuning into this podcast, do not hesitate to write a review and share it with your friends. Hi, this is Annemarie, and welcome to another #ListenerIntoLead tip. This is tip #3, which are the mistakes I made 13 years ago when I started my very first podcast.  My co-host and I assumed this too, however, we were wrong.  In fact, when my cohost and I hired mentors to help us monetize our podcast (back in 2008-2010) - many of them had come from mainstream radio and suggested we monetize our show with advertising and sponsorships.   However, one of the things we didn’t realize back then (which I know now) was the incredible value of a smaller yet highly niched and highly engaged audience.  And, how with a smaller highly niched audience you were far better to monetize your OWN message before you monetize someone else's.  I share more in today’s tip.  Additional Resources:  Profitable & Purposeful Podcasting Masterclass for Coaches and Consultants Post a review and share it!   If you learned something by tuning into this podcast, do not hesitate to write a review and share it with your friends. Does this happen to you? You’re sitting with your fingers poised above the keyboard; however, a blank screen is staring right back at you.   You just can’t come up with a topic to write about, especially a theme that’s going to be relevant and of interest to your ideal client?   Yes? You’re not alone.   This was me several years ago every Monday as I sat in front of my computer ready to write an article for my newsletter subscribers.   It was often difficult to come up with a topic that I felt my community of ambitious business owners would find inspiring and relevant, and that would help them take their business to the next level.  Thankfully, this doesn’t happen that often anymore as I’ve discovered a few different ways to get my ideas flowing.  So, if you find yourself sitting in front of my computer screen with writer's block, here are three ways to help you get your creative juices flowing so you can create informative content that your ideal clients will love AND that will build your credibility and continue to position you as an expert in your field.   RESOURCES:

Hi this is Annemarie and welcome to another #ListenerIntoLead tip.  This is tip #2, which are the mistakes I made and wish I had avoided 13 years ago when I started my very first podcast.   As businesses we know it can take multiple touchpoints for people to get to 'know, like, and trust' you.  And, there’s a difference between your audience building 'know, like and trust' with you as a podcast host versus listening to you and building ‘know, like, and trust’ through the lens of ‘do I want to work with this person?’  In fact, I would say that a majority of your audience is not really looking to buy, but rather to learn, to be inspired, and/or to find and answer to a solution. They’re not really in buying mode.  But there are some subtle things you can do...  I share more in today’s tip.  Additional Resources:  Profitable & Purposeful Podcasting Masterclass for Coaches and Consultants Post a review and share it!   If you learned something by tuning into this podcast, do not hesitate to write a review and share it with your friends. Hi, this is Annemarie, and welcome to another #ListenerIntoLead tip. This is tip #1.  A question I was asked once was "Is there a difference between podcasting and podcasting as a business?" My answer was, yes, absolutely there is a big difference.  It’s easy to start a podcast. We have incredible tools and technologies at our fingertips making it very easy to press record, start speaking or interviewing a guest, then uploading to a podcast host. Congratulations – you are a podcaster.  However, starting a podcast as a business, to build your visibility and reach and build an audience of your ideal clients, while building your reputation as a trusted authority, so you become THE choice vs just a choice while building your revenue as you begin to nurture listeners into leads, inquiries and ultimately paying customers – well that’s another matter altogether. It takes the right strategy and the right steps to get everything in place.  Just like it’s relatively simple to start a coaching business. However, starting a coaching business that’s profitable and scalable, well that’s another matter altogether, It takes the right strategy, the right steps, and the right systems, to ensure you are able to grow your business the right way.  And, it’s the same when it comes to podcasting as a business.  So, is there a difference between podcasting and podcasting as a business? Yes, there is!   Which is what this ListenerIntoLead series is all about. In the next few tips, I’m going to share the mistakes my cohost and I made and what I know to do differently so you can start to generate results from your very first episode.  I’ll see you in the next #ListenerIntoLead tip.   Additional Resources:  Profitable & Purposeful Podcasting Masterclass for Coaches and Consultants Post a review and share it!   If you learned something by tuning into this podcast, do not hesitate to write a review and share it with your friends. Hey, it’s Annemarie - welcome to another 30DaystoDistinction tip where I’ll be sharing 30 tips over the next 30 days as part of our 30DaysToDistinction Challenge to help you become distinguishable, uncopyable, and irresistible, so you are THE choice vs just A choice for your ideal client and can continue to bring real change in your sphere of influence with your message and expertise.  This is Tip #30 – wow, we made it!!!  If I was to ask you to define Personal Branding – or your Personal Brand – how would you respond? If you said your Personal Brand is your reputation – you'd be correct.  Personal Branding – or your Personal Brand is not a fad, it’s not a buzzword that some marketers have begun throwing around as the flavor of the day.   In fact, in my former business – a Career Consultancy we were talking about the importance of Personal Branding back in the 2000s. So, it’s NOT a fad at all!  Your Personal Brand is your reputation. It’s what people think about you when your name is mentioned. It’s what people say about you when asked to share their experiences.   And, while you can’t control what people think or say about you, you CAN influence it.  By your actions, your interactions, your conversations, - everything can impact your reputation, your Personal Brand.   Positively. Or negatively.  If you do a Personal Brand audit today – would people think and say the exact things you’d want them to say?   Or are you leaving it to chance.  If you asked 5 people (who knew you well) to describe you in 5 words – would the 5 words they use to describe you be the same?  And, more importantly, are they the 5 words you would want them to use to describe you?   YOUR NEXT STEP:  Are you a coach or consultant who is struggling to stand out online? Do you feel unnoticed, unheard, invisible?   Access my free Masterclass, on how to become Distinguishable, Uncopyable and Irresistible to your ideal client – even if you’re in a crowded marketplace.  Go to: www.IndustryThoughtleaderAcademy.com/DistinguishableMessage  Post a review and share it!   If you learned something by tuning into this podcast, do not hesitate to write a review and share it with your friends. I've spoken to SO many aspiring entrepreneurs over the last decade (or so) who were all at the beginning of their journey of finding their 'THING'. Their INNER BRILLIANCE (as I like to call it).  [Disclosure: I can SO relate to this, as it has been my own journey too].  At the core of our Inner Brilliance is often an innate talent - a strength that comes naturally to us. And, because it comes so naturally to us, it's often easy to discredit.  So, we end up searching, learning, searching, doing more learning, more searching, and more learning. Trying to find OUR thing.  Sadly, for many the journey of learning and searching never really comes to an end. Because, despite how hard they work at making it work - it never really does work. Or, not to the level they really wanted it to.  And, that's because they are missing that one, fundamental thing. They continue to disregard that innate talent - that strength, their Inner Brilliance.  However, herein lies the gold.  It's NEVER too late.  So here are some of the things I've learned over the years:

Stop doubting yourself. Doubt is a lying THIEF! Tell doubt to F-off.

Stop searching for answers that are already there in front of you. You just need to look with renewed hope and expectation. It IS there - take the time to dig a little deeper.

Start listening to the people around you who continue to comment about certain aspects of you and how you show up. THIS is evidence of your Inner Brilliance.

Start listening to the compliments people say to you. DON'T discredit what they say, as this is a way to undervalue yourself.

Stop looking at what other people are doing. They don't have your strengths and Inner Brilliance. They haven't walked your journey; or developed and honed your strengths; nor do they have the same passion and purpose as you. Find YOUR's.

Because when you do; it won't seem like work. It will flow. Yes, you need to take action, and LOTS of action - but it won't seem hard, because you are loving what you do.   Trust me. I know. Because it's been my journey (from the age of 15 - if truth be known). So, I've breathed it. I've lived it.   And, actually it's because it IS my Inner Brilliance.  It's why I became a Career Coach - some several decades ago.  It's why I still love helping other entrepreneurs discover their Inner Brilliance.  It's why I love interviewing my podcasts guests and creating an environment and a platform that enables them to showcase their brilliance  It's why I do what I do.  So, my question to you - what's your why? What's your Inner Brilliance?  YOUR NEXT STEP:   Are you a coach or consultant who is struggling to stand out online? Everyone has the potential to achieve greatness – whatever ‘greatness’ means to you.  For you, it may mean reaching a level of success and accomplishment you never thought was possible.  Or perhaps, it’s making a much bigger impact in the lives of your clients and community, by facilitating life-changing transformation.  Or maybe, it’s a combination of the two – you have a mission- and purpose-driven focus to make a difference in the world by being the difference, while growing their business as a consequence of being able to make a much bigger impact through your work.  Do you believe it?  I do – with every fiber of my being. I believe it’s possible for you, for me, and for everyone…  So, why is it that so many people never reach this level of achievement, you may ask?  Mindset.  So, in today’s episode, Annemarie shares:

The Importance of Mindset

Do you have the mindset that’ll attract opportunities, learning and growth?

If you’ve been following along during the last 28 days during our 30DaysToDistinction Challenge, Tip #19 was when I shared the importance of building Reputation Equity vs Vanity Numbers – because your reputation is bankable, especially as a coach and consultant who wants to be seen as a trusted authority and have clients invest in your programs – and vanity number are not.   If you’ve attended one of my Profitable and Purposeful Podcasting Masterclasses for Coaches and Consultants you would have heard of me sharing more about my Podcast Positioning Quadrant.   One of the Quadrants is Celebrity, with the Celebrity scoring High on Audience, but low on Authority. They are High on Audience because they have a charisma about them that attracts and engages, they most likely have quite a large following of regular viewers/listeners.  BUT you would not hire that person to do your taxes, represent you in a court of law, or perform brain surgery on you. Because you wouldn’t see them as a trusted authority and someone you would hire for their specific support.  If you’re a Coach and/or Consultant – who wants to eventually generate clients from the message and content you’re sharing so they invest in YOU, YOUR expertise, and YOUR support – then it’s important to focus on building your reputation as a trusted authority, vs building your following.  In fact, if you continue to build your reputation as a trusted authority and continue to share valuable content consistently, you’ll continue to build your audience. However, it may be a smaller niched audience, however far more engaged and more likely to take action as you continue to sew into their lives with the valuable content and message you share.  So, build reputation equity – not vanity numbers. Have you heard this powerful quote before? “Life is like photography. We develop from the negatives.  It’s a quote Annemarie has reminded herself of a LOT over the years as she’s picked herself up and dusted herself off from yet another failure or disappointment.  In fact, it was those failures and disappointments and the many lessons she learned, which are now principles and steps she teaches her clients as they continue to struggle with the challenges she struggled with.  So, not only are we able to develop from those negative experiences – through passing on what we’ve learned, we’re also able to help others who are struggling with the very things we have struggled with and have been able to overcome.  It was her WORST business failure ever, that 7-years on, she can honestly say, was the BEST thing that ever happened to her because it led her down the path to where she is today.  And, while she certainly wouldn’t have chosen to experience this level of loss and failure – it has built a level of resilience and tenacity that she knows is needed for a time such as now and that she can continue to share with others.  So, in today’s episode, Annemarie shares:

How to approach failure and disappointment

Words of encouragement as you pick yourself up and dust yourself off

Three powerful questions to help you move forward

You only need to look online to find numerous marketers talking about how you need to do this in order to get more clients, or this new bright shiny object is THE answer. Whatever the tactic, or whatever the bright shiny tool there’s one key thing that none of these marketers talk about.  And, that’s - just because you can – doesn't mean you should.  Just because you can (fill in the gap of the tactic or bright shiny tool) - doesn’t mean you should. Because it might be a GREAT tactic, a GREAT tool, that is right for someone else and it may be right for you BUT not right now in your business.  So, right tactic, wrong timing.   Even the best thought-out strategy may not be the RIGHT strategy for you, become it’s the WRONG timing for where you’re at in your business. For instance, a podcast is a great marketing strategy IF your message is already working.  If your message isn’t working and you’re hoping a podcast will turn things around - it won’t.  Because a podcast will only amplify a message that isn’t working, to a lot more people. So, be mindful of the strategies and tactics you implement.  Because you may be falling into the trap of RIGHT strategy, WRONG timing for your business.  Another example could be writing a book. Writing a book is a great way to build your authority, however similarly to a podcast if you haven’t clearly defined how you’re going to leverage your book, you’re unclear on what you want to become known as a trusted authority in, and your message isn’t working – then writing a book at this time is WRONG timing.  Have a think about some of the marketing and tools you’ve been using in your business. Are they working as well as you’d hoped?   Perhaps it’s because they are a great tool or marketing strategy BUT just wrong timing for you with the state you’re at in your business.  YOUR NEXT STEP:   Are you a coach or consultant who is struggling to stand out online? Whenever you create a piece of content there has to be an end in mind AND a next step that you encourage your ideal client to take that gets them into the next step, the next phase of the customer journey as you continue to build know, like and trust.   The purpose of your content is of course to bring value, and position yourself as a trusted authority, with the content so good, that when you invite them to take the next step, your ideal will.  When it comes to your content, think about the 3 ‘E’s

Educate

Engage

Entice

Educate your ideal client with valuable insights, engage and build know like and trust by ensuring your message resonates with them, and then entice them and seed and lead to the next step. Hi, this is Annemarie – welcome to another episode.  This is the fourth part of a series I’ve been running. If you’re only just joining me the series was specifically for coaches or consultants who felt like the world’s best-kept secret. This may be you and while your experience is vast, you’re secretly frustrated, because, despite all of your hard work, you’re just not getting the visibility, recognition, or new clients you’d hoped for despite all of the hard work you’ve put into your business.   So, you’re thinking of launching a podcast – because you’ve heard a podcast will help you amplify your message.   As I’ve said before and I will say again, a podcast can certainly help you amplify your message. However, it’ll only amplify the message that’s not working to more people.  This is why I always say - launching a podcast is easy. But launching a podcast that enables you to go from invisible to influential Trusted Authority is another matter altogether, which is what I'll be sharing in my special series From Invisible to Influential Trusted Authority with a Podcast Series. It was part of a 9-Day Challenge I’ve run recently, however, I received such great feedback from people who attended the challenge, I knew I had to share it with you. So, when you hear me refer to ‘tomorrow’s workshop’ – know that it will be coming next week when we release another show.  Here’s what I’ll be covering in the next 4 episodes:

How to go from invisible, underpaid coach/consultant to highly paid, sought-after Trusted Authority with a podcast;

How to transform your expertise from a want into a need and from an overwhelming number of choices to becoming the ONLY choice;

How not to leave tens of thousands of dollars on the table but rather nurture and build long-term client relationships that lead to profitable and sustainable business growth;

The POWER of Momentum: How to attract and generate a steady flow of your ideal clients right to your door so you NEVER have to ‘chase’ leads again, while leveraging the power of podcasting.

Let’s dive into episode 4 – The POWER of Momentum: How to attract and generate a steady flow of your ideal clients right to your door so you NEVER have to ‘chase’ leads again, while leveraging the power of podcasting.  RESOURCES:

Hey, it’s Annemarie - welcome to another 30DaystoDistinction tip where I’ll be sharing 30 tips over the next 30 days as part of our 30DaysToDistinction Challenge to help you become distinguishable, uncopyable and irresistible, so you are THE choice vs just A choice for your ideal client and can continue to bring real change in your sphere of influence with your message and expertise.  This is Tip #25.   And it’s all about the importance of repurposing your content.  Now, before you roll your eyes and go ‘Annemarie, we already know that!’  Let me ask you a question – are you repurposing your content?   Across different platforms at different times AND by leveraging different mediums?  It’s important, because:

It can take multiple times for someone to finally take action, which can be for a number of reasons from they’re not quite ready yet, they may to struggle through on their own and need to get to that frustration point where the cost of NOT doing something and investing in help is greater than them struggling on their own, and

Not everyone consumes content in the specific way you are sharing it so will appreciate you leveraging a different medium to share it.

For instance, you can:

Write an article

Take that article and create an infographic from the main points

Take that article and create a video

Take that video and strip the audio and include on your podcast

Take points of that article and create a slideshow

Take the article and create slides and a document on Linkedin

Take one of the points of the article and go deeper into that specific point

Then take that point and create an infographic from the new points you came up with

And on it goes.   See the content you can come up with just from one article?   YOUR NEXT STEP:   Are you a coach or consultant who is struggling to stand out online? As I mentioned yesterday in Tip#23, as someone who is looking to build your thought leadership - be mindful of the tactics you follow as you continue to build your reputation as a trusted authority.   It matters. Rather than following the same ol ‘hack this’ and ‘hack that’ visibility tactics - focus on the insights, hindsight and foresight that only YOU can bring to the conversation through your years of experience and knowledge. Because it’s the wisdom and knowledge YOU bring through longevity in your industry that matters! Showcase THAT as you build your thought leadership collateral. Another way to do that is to:  Innovate – even 1% difference can make the difference   So here are some tips to help you come up with content ideas. Specifically the type of content people WANT to read and will help you stand out, be heard and influence your ideal client?   An interesting poll that Linkedin’s ran a while ago may just be helpful.  In fact, ‘Fresh Ideas and Inspiration’ topped the poll at 60%, followed by ‘New Industry Insights’ in second place at 29%.  Here’s what I would add – especially important if you’re looking to add value to the conversation WHILE build your reputation as a trusted authority - that trusted voice in your industry.   Be mindful your ‘Fresh Ideas and Inspiration’ are specific and relevant to your industry. Because while those inspirational ‘popularity posts’ may generate higher levels of engagement, you’ll want to spend the majority of your time creating posts that challenges the status quo, inspires new ways of thinking to your industry, while showcasing your thought leadership.   So, specificity and relevancy are key.  Here are 3 ideas to get your creative content juices flowing when it comes to innovating – even at 1%:

Look at what other people in your industry are talking about AND go deeper. Much deeper.

Pinpoint the areas no-one’s talking about. Find evidence that validate its importance and relevance, and continue to bring fresh and innovative insights into this area.

Research other industries and pinpoint overlapping similarities/challenges/solutions to build a solid business case for why change is needed and why outdated principles/approaches are no longer valid.

As I mentioned yesterday in Tip#22, as someone who is looking to build your thought leadership - be mindful of the tactics you follow as you continue to build your reputation as a trusted authority. It matters. Rather than following the same ol ‘hack this’ and ‘hack that’ visibility tactics - focus on the insights, hindsight, and foresight that only YOU can bring to the conversation through your years of experience and knowledge. Because it’s the wisdom and knowledge YOU bring through longevity in your industry that matters! Showcase THAT as you build your thought leadership collateral. Another way to do that is to: Bring in validating third party statistics. Why? Because relevant third-party statistics validate where you’re saying AND can add even more urgency and/or importance to what you’re saying. For instance, one of the sources I love to reference is Edelman Trust Barometer. Edeleman is a highly trusted authority in the area of Trust and what builds trust, with the information they gather in their annual trust surveys, giving us a clear appreciation of what’s important when it comes to building trust. I’ve often used Edelman’s findings in my content. Recently, Edelman partnered with Linkedin to conduct a B2B Thought Leadership Survey and the study came up with some amazing statistics which validated the importance and urgency to the things I’ve been saying around the importance of building thought leadership. According to Edelman and Linkedin ‘2019 B2B Thought Leadership Impact Study’: 87% of decision makers said that building Thought Leadership builds trust; 89% of decision makers said that building Thought Leadership enhances your reputation; 58% of decision makers said they would choose a business because of their Thought Leadership; 61% of decision makers said they were willing to pay premium prices to work with a brand that articulated a clear vision through their Thought Leadership. These findings validate the importance of building your thought leadership and becoming a trusted authority in your industry. Now it’s your turn. What organisations are conducting studies that are relevant to your industry that can validate the importance and/or urgency of what you are saying and teaching? Go ahead and begin journaling these ideas into your Take Action Guide, and start to look out for additional organisations. Perhaps even commit to spending once a month in online research as to the more recent articles and findings being shared. Because this will continue to validate the importance and/or urgency of what you are teaching. I can’t wait to hear what you come up with. If you haven’t downloaded the Take Action Guide, you can access it over at: www.IndustryThoughtLeaderAcademy.com/Distinction You’ll also be able to catch up on the other tips so you can become distinguishable, uncopyable and irresistible, and THE choice vs just A choice for your ideal client and can continue to be the difference and bring real change in your sphere of influence with your message and expertise. Hi, this is Annemarie – welcome to another episode of the Ambitious Entrepreneur Show.   Are you a coach or a consultant and feel like the world’s best-kept secret? Your experience is vast, yet secretly you’re frustrated because, despite all of your hard work, you’re not getting the visibility, recognition, or new clients you’d hoped for despite all of the hard work you’ve put into your business?   So, you’re thinking of launching a podcast – because you’ve heard a podcast will help you amplify your message.   A podcast can certainly help you amplify your message. However, it’ll only amplify the message that’s not working to more people.  Or perhaps you’ve started a podcast but it’s just not generating the results you’d hope for. With all of the hard work and effort, you’ve put in you’re still not generating leads or clients from your podcast.

How to go from invisible, underpaid coach/consultant to highly paid, sought-after Trusted Authority with a podcast;

How to transform your expertise from a want into a need and from an overwhelming number of choices to become the ONLY choice;

How not to leave tens of thousands of dollars on the table but rather nurture and build long-term client relationships that lead to profitable and sustainable business growth;

The POWER of Momentum: How to attract and generate a steady flow of your ideal clients right to your door so you NEVER have to ‘chase’ leads again, while leveraging the power of podcasting.

As I mentioned yesterday in Tip#20, as someone who is looking to build your thought leadership - be mindful of the tactics you follow as you continue to build your reputation as a trusted authority. Another way to do that is to:  Do the opposite.  I’m sure you’ve heard the saying “When everyone zigs – zag.” As a Change Maker, you probably already know that you don’t follow trends – you lead trends. Or, you look out for certain patterns in order to identify unique and different ways of doing things.  Because being “one of the pack” – just isn’t your style.   So, when it comes to your industry – what moves have you made that were different from what everyone else has done, and how has it improved your results and now of course the results of your clients? Or, what CAN you do in order to zig when everyone else is zagging?  The other day I made a comment about a specific platform and how I had decided NOT to incorporate that platform into my strategy. Someone responded, “All of your competitors are on that platform – so you should be too?” To which I responded, that’s one of the reasons why I don’t and I won’t. I know who my ideal client is and she is probably not hanging out on that platform, because she’s on a mission to change the world, and that particular platform is a distraction.  Another example of zigging when everyone else is zagging came about when one of my colleagues who is a printer mentioned how printed marketing and relationship-building collateral is not as prolific as it was years ago. Everyone is online.  So, imagine if you incorporated a strategy that did involve something unique and uncopyable that was sent to someone’s physical mailing address. That would certainly stand out considering printed matter has dropped off substantially. It would certainly stand out and is just another example of how to do the opposite of what everyone else in your industry is doing.  Now it’s your turn.  What have you done that was the opposite of what everyone else in your industry was doing? Or, what can you do in order to bring positive change and quicker results for your clients that’s opposite to what other people are doing in your industry?   YOUR NEXT STEP:   Are you a coach or consultant who is struggling to stand out online? Do you feel unnoticed, unheard, invisible?   Access my free Masterclass, on how to become Distinguishable, Uncopyable and Irresistible to your ideal client – even if you’re in a crowded marketplace.  Go to: www.IndustryThoughtleaderAcademy.com/DistinguishableMessage   Post a review and share it!   If you learned something by tuning into this podcast, do not hesitate to write a review and share it with your friends. As I mentioned yesterday in Tip#19, as someone who is looking to build your thought leadership - be mindful of the tactics you follow as you continue to build your reputation as a trusted authority.   It matters. Rather than following the same old ‘hack this’ and ‘hack that’ visibility tactics - focus on the insights, hindsight, and foresight that only YOU can bring to the conversation through your years of experience and knowledge. Because it’s the wisdom and knowledge YOU bring through longevity in your industry that matters! Showcase THAT as you build your thought leadership collateral. Another way to do that is to:  Challenge the status quo  Status quo really just means the current state of affairs. How many businesses or even industries are happy doing what they’ve been doing for many years. That old saying ‘If it’s not broke – then why fix it.’  However, something may not be broken, however, could certainly do with a tweak or improvement. Perhaps you’ve been able to come up with a new approach that is challenging the status quo of your industry – share it with your ideal clients and tell them why this new (or changed) approach is so important.  For instance, for me, an example of challenging the status quo – when I was in the career industry – quite a number of my colleagues and the industry in fact here in Australia were saying how important it was to have face-to-face meetings with clients. You couldn’t have coaching sessions over the phone or via email? [Skype wasn’t even invented back then]  However, I couldn’t see why that wasn’t possible. I had colleagues in the US who were. So, I hired a coach in the USA and the rest is history as they say. I began working with clients not only across Australia via phone and email, but also across the USA and other countries too.  I started using audio recordings as part of my work with clients in 2005 and eventually began my first co-hosted podcast in 2008 – when people for years would say ‘what’s a podcast?” “Why bother – no one really listens to podcasts?”  I wonder what they’d say now.  Now it’s your turn.  What status quo have you challenged when it comes to your industry? Or, what status quo could you challenge when it comes to your industry? YOUR NEXT STEP:  Are you a coach or consultant who is struggling to stand out online? As I mentioned yesterday in Tip#18, as someone who is looking to build your thought leadership - be mindful of the tactics you follow as you continue to build your reputation as a trusted authority. Another way to do that is to:  Expose the elephant in the room.  What is a mistruth or a mistake that your ideal client is not aware of and perhaps is something other providers in your industry are still teaching? Address it and share what your ideal clients should be doing instead.   One of the elephants in the room for me when it comes to helping businesses start their podcast – is the fixation on the number of downloads their podcast is getting. I’m sure you’ve heard the term Vanity Numbers – where people get caught up in the number of likes and shares and comments, and when it comes to podcasting the number of downloads. So, instead of focusing on Vanity Numbers – I encourage people to focus on and build Reputation Equity – because Reputation Equity is bankable, whereas Vanity numbers are not.  What do I mean when I say Reputation Equity is bankable – well this entire 30DaysToDistinction Challenge covers important insights and tips on how to build your reputation as that trusted authority. And, when you’ve got a reputation for bringing valuable insights and a reputation of delivering results – people hire you.  It was building Reputation Equity with my podcast – Ambitious Entrepreneur Show that saw several people message me and ask if I would consider selling my podcast after I announced I was stopping production. That’s the Reputation I had built over the years for that podcast and compelled people to reach out and enquire. If it hadn’t built its reputation – I'm sure no one would have been interested. That’s the value of building Reputation Equity rather than focusing on Vanity Numbers – which is an elephant in the room that I address.  Now it’s your turn.  What elephants in the room can you address when it comes to your industry?  YOUR NEXT STEP:   Are you a coach or consultant who is struggling to stand out online? Do you feel unnoticed, unheard, invisible?   Access my free Masterclass, on how to become Distinguishable, Uncopyable and Irresistible to your ideal client – even if you’re in a crowded marketplace.  Go to: www.IndustryThoughtleaderAcademy.com/DistinguishableMessage   Post a review and share it!   If you learned something by tuning into this podcast, do not hesitate to write a review and share it with your friends. Firstly, as someone who is looking to build your thought leadership - be mindful of the tactics you follow as you continue to build your reputation as a trusted authority.   It matters. Today’s tip I want to speak to you about Your Promise of Value and your Promise of Expectation, which are two things you want to continue to express in your marketing and your message as it plays an integral role in helping you continue to build that irresistible factor with your ideal client.  And, if you get your Umbrella Statement right (which we spoke about in Tip # 15) your Umbrella Statement when crafted in the best possible way – showcases both your Promise of Value and Promise of Expectation.  Your Promise of Value is exactly that – the value you offer in terms of your expertise, the knowledge you share, and how it can help a client with their current challenge and in particular your knowledge and expertise can help them overcome their current challenge.  And, your Promise of Expectation is future pacing what is possible for them should they invest in themselves and say Yes to working with you. So, it’s the outcomes and what they can expect to achieve through working with you.  One of the techniques my clients will often hear me say is: always be seeding and leading.  Seeding and leading involve strategically sharing WHAT is possible and HOW this is possible.  For instance, one way to do this is by introducing an example of how one of your clients after implementing an insight you’ve just shared – how they were able to generate a result. The result your client achieved is a Promise of Expectation as to what is possible for them if they work with you.  You are validating the value they’ll achieve through working with you. Ever heard the saying ‘Marketers ruin everything?" EVERY Tom, Dick, and Harry (sorry to all of the Tom, Dick, and Harry’s out there – no offense to you) however just making my point that every sadly unscrupulous marketer under the sun – jumps on the bandwagon overusing something so much – that it can become tarnished.  An example where that happened recently was a technology platform I invested in, it was still in Beta with a promise to be an incredible solution. However, unbeknownst to the developers, there were a handful of people who had been using the email system to send out so many unsolicited emails the developers had to shut the entire email system down for months and months while they sorted out the issue of being black listed. It was terrible and a great example of how marketers – especially the unscrupulous marketers ruin everything.  Another example is when certain words and phrases are used. Personally, I despise the word ‘hack’ and ‘Hack this and hack that’ I would hear that word over and over on my podcast – years ago to the point I’d cringe every time I heard it.  Now one word that has been used and (in some instances) overused and abused is the word ‘authenticity,’ marketers talk about authenticity when they were anything but authentic in their approach and with their marketing.  For me the word ‘authentic’ is integral. My leading Brand Archetype is Explorer and the Explorer is all about pioneering the discovery of our truth. So, words such as unique, individual, and authentic are words that express what I stand for, and what I help people with – helping them identify what’s unique and authentic for them and helping them bring that out into their marketing and content.  So, for me Authenticity when it comes to your personal Brand (and my background in personal branding) is integral. This is why one of my core personal branding principles is Authenticity is NOT a buzzword – it's paramount.  Because the opposite of authenticity is fake, which is why I cringe when I hear other marketers tell their clients – just make up a story. Just fake it. Yuk! You’re a change-maker and change-makers don’t fake things, they don’t lie.  Instead, being authentic means being genuine and being REAL. The real deal!   So, over to you. What do authenticity and being authentic mean to you and what aspects of being authentic will you continue to bring forward in your message?  YOUR NEXT STEP:   Are you a coach or consultant who is struggling to stand out online? Here’s another shout-out to all of the multi-passionate #entrepreneurs who struggle with defining their ONE THING.   Because limiting yourself to just ONE THING seems totally foreign to you. And, life is too short to just focus on ONE THING. You’ve got diverse interests, you love learning, and having to choose just ONE THING gives you heart palpitations. I get it!  Guess what?! You DON'T have to limit yourself to just ONE THING. However, you DO have to change the way you speak about what you do. Think of the ONE outcome you can help your client achieve through leveraging your unique blend of knowledge and experience you have to offer. Then create an outcome-focused statement you know your ideal client will notice. ☂️ I call that: Your Umbrella Statement.  Here’s an example:  When I worked in the career industry my statement was: Get Noticed, Hired & Paid What You’re Worth. It's what my clients needed help with. I offered resume development, interview coaching, job search coaching etc, which sat under that statement.  Now with #businesses I help them: Build their Reach, Reputation (as a trusted authority) and their Revenue, with my expertise in #PersonalBranding, Business and #Podcast strategy.  YOUR NEXT STEP:   Are you a coach or consultant who is struggling to stand out online? Want to build your reach while becoming known as a trusted authority in your field? So that when your ideal client is looking for support you are THE choice vs just a choice for them?  Then when it comes to your message and what you offer – don't try to be all things to all people.  Because the broader your message is, the longer it’ll take to build your reach OR be seen as a trusted authority. If ever.   Because your message will get lost in the noise.   As I mentioned in Tip #12 to be irresistible you need to speak to an audience of one.  When you do focus on that audience of ONE, each piece of content you share will speak into the challenges he/she faces, along with the desired outcomes he/she longs, as well as invaluable insights on HOW they can begin to achieve that.  And, because you’re consistently sharing that consistent message across multiple platforms it won’t be long before your ideal client will instantly think of you when someone asks them “Who do you know that does [fill in the gap].” They’ll recommend you.  And, when they’re ready to make an investment – they'll hire you.  Because YOU are the person they instantly think of and couldn’t imagine working with anyone else.  For today’s Action – have a look over the pieces of content you’ve been sharing over the last few months? Is there a consistent message and theme coming across in your content? Or do you need to refine it?

You know how some marketers will often tell us we need to share more content, across more platforms, with more frequency so our message can cut through the noise?   That’s NOT really sound advice for Thought Leaders.   Especially, if you want to build your reputation as a Trusted Authority in your industry.  In fact, the opposite is true.  LESS is more.  Here’s what I mean.  It’s about quality NOT quantity.   It’s about focus NOT frequency.   It’s about innovation NOT irrelevant (outdated) principles that every second person is speaking about in your industry.  So the next time you sit down to create content, remind yourself:  Quality. Focus. Innovation.  Bring THAT to your content and conversations and it won’t be long before your message not only cut’s through the noise but begins to influence and impact others, too.  We’re told 'you need more content, more frequently, and across more platforms to stand out. If you're building your reputation as a trusted authority, I suggest ‘LESS IS MORE.’  Here’s what I mean…  ⚠ NOT more content, but the RIGHT content  Content that:  ➞ Is relevant AND nurtures your ideal client along the Buyer’s Journey as you build know, like, and trust;  ➞ Challenges the status quo in your industry, bringing unique insights that only you can share based on your expertise;  ➞ Compels him/her to take that next step when you invite them to do so.  ⚠ NOT more frequently, but the RIGHT frequency, RIGHT format, approach   Are they busy? Provide bite-sized content.  Do they prefer listening? Create a podcast.   Prefer reading? Then, write.  Or better yet, offer your content in a variety of formats and at varying lengths so your content can be enjoyed by your ideal client no matter their situation or preference.  ⚠ Not more platforms, but the RIGHT platform  Don’t be tempted to follow those ’platform-hacking-bro-marketing’ tactics.  YOU don’t need to hack anything.  Your work, and the impact you’ve been making for decades - speaks for itself.  You just need to find the RIGHT platforms and focus your efforts there!  Do you need to focus and double down on ONE platform – rather than stretching yourself too thin.  Do you need to refine your message so clear themes and topics come through that are aligned with what your ideal client is looking for?  Is there a language you're using more jargon and related to your industry –rather than the words and phrases your ideal client is using?     YOUR NEXT STEP:   Are you a coach or consultant who is struggling to stand out online? Do you feel unnoticed, unheard, invisible?   Access my free Masterclass, on how to become Distinguishable, Uncopyable and Irresistible to your ideal client – even if you’re in a crowded marketplace.  Go to: www.IndustryThoughtleaderAcademy.com/DistinguishableMessage    Post a review and share it!   If you learned something by tuning into this podcast, do not hesitate to write a review and share it with your friends. Want to build your reach while becoming known as a trusted authority in your field?  Don’t try to be all things to all people – especially with the message you share.  The broader your message is, the longer it’ll take to build your reach OR be seen as a trusted authority. If ever.  Because your message will get lost in the noise.   Instead, hone your message to a specific niched audience.  And, speak to that niche. Speak to your audience of one.  When you do and you speak into the challenges, he/she faces, along with the desired outcomes he/she longs for, as well as invaluable insights on HOW they can begin to achieve that, it won’t be long before that audience of one becomes two, becomes four, eight, and so on.   Because you become a go-to resource and can continue to nurture your community into leads and inquiries and eventually customers.  But it starts with ONE, clear and highly-niched message that speaks to an audience of ONE.   Get clear on that first!  In the next few tips, I’ll be sharing more about how you can take that message, which you’re going to be using to speak to your audience of one – to the next level with various angles and topics you won’t want to miss.    YOUR NEXT STEP:   Are you a coach or consultant who is struggling to stand out online? Being irresistible as you would probably know means to be so compelling that you are hard to resist. An online definition of irresistible said: too powerful or convincing to be resisted. However, in the context of becoming irresistible to your ideal client – it's just that. Being irresistible to YOUR ideal client. Not trying to be irresistible to everyone and anyone – but rather your ideal client. Also, when it comes to being irresistible when it comes to business there are some certain areas I’m referring to, which are important you focus on (which I’ll dive deeper into in the upcoming tips) and some things you should avoid. Let’s look at some of the things you should avoid. So, often, we assume that to be irresistible we have to become someone or something that is going to stand out and attract our ideal client. And that becoming someone or something means we completely diminish who we are and/or how we come across. Identify the best part of you and give yourself permission to shine. You don’t need to wear a mask or dull your light because someone else doesn’t like the way you show up. That means you’re not for them and that’s ok. You’re here to support a specific client, who will absolutely resonate with who you are and how you should up – that best part of YOU, which you’ve probably started to get clearer on through the last few tips we’ve been working on. The Distinction Triad and your unique Mannerisms and Characteristics. Another aspect you want to avoid when it comes to being irresistible and what not to do relates to your message and your story. And, I’ve mentioned it before – never, ever, EVER think you need to make up your story because your current story is boring. Any relationship that’s been based and built on a mistruth – a lie, is NOT the place to start. You just need to dig deeper to find the golden nuggets of what makes you irresistible. Now that you know what NOT to do, tomorrow we’ll dive a little deeper into what to focus on when putting together an irresistible message for your ideal client. However your take action step in the meantime, go back over the notes you took in your Take Action Guide about your Markers and Milestones and begin writing a few notes about which ones are most relevant to your ideal client. Jot them down as we’re going to be referring back to them in our upcoming tips over the next few days.   YOUR NEXT STEP: Are you a coach or consultant who is struggling to stand out online? Following on from yesterday’s tip where I spoke about two elements that are unique and uncopyable about you being a blend of your characteristics and your mannerisms, today I’m sharing another two elements that no one else can copy because they’re unique to you and no-one else.  And, when you weave these elements into your story and your message – no one else can copy it because it’s not their journey NOR has it happened to them.  Today I’m talking about Markers and Milestones.   Markers are significant events in your life, such as challenges and struggles that you have had to face and overcome. Milestones are the successes, the achievements you have secured when facing those challenges.  Now when thinking about Markers and Milestones, Markers must be relevant to your ideal client and something they resonate with, are most likely struggling with themselves and the milestones must also be something your ideal client resonates with, because most likely this is something they’re longing to achieve – however haven’t been able to figure out HOW.   For instance, one of my uncopyable story angles is when I started Women In Leadership Podcast. It was after my worst business failure ever and I started Women In Leadership Podcast to help me deal with my grief and loss. With only 3 episodes being published, I thought if I can generate 2 x 4 figure clients accidentally from a podcast I started to help me deal with my grief and loss – what would be possible if I backtracked the steps my clients took to get them to the point where they had gone from not knowing me at all, googling Brand and Business Consultant, come to my website, listen to the podcasts, search around the site and decide they’d want to work with me.  A book – Industry Thought Leader – how to go from Invisible to Influential (and profitable) with a podcast and my course – Podcasting With Purpose was born and now this is something I teach my clients, coaches and consultants who are looking to leverage a podcast to build their reach, reputation (as a trusted authority) and their revenue from their very first episode.  That’s one of my stories, which is unique and uncopyable – because it’s my journey.  Now it’s time for you to identify some of the Markers and Milestones that’s relevant for you in your Take Action Guide. Yesterday I spoke about what it means to Uncopyable and how when we identify unique elements about who we are – no one can copy you. In today’s tip, I want to speak about two of those and in tomorrow’s tip – I’ll share two more.  Today, I want to talk about your Characteristics (or character traits) and Mannerisms.  Your characteristics are your distinguishing features and qualities.  Your mannerisms – are a group of verbal or other unconscious habitual behaviors that are particular to you.  In fact – your mannerisms can bring out your character.   For instance, a confident person (which could be a character of confidence) can be brought to life by maintaining eye contact when you speak. Walking upright with your head held higher can also exude the character of confidence.  The opposite mannerism that brings out the character of being shy and/or reserved, could be speaking softly, head tilted downward, avoiding eye contact.   Some other character traits could be honest, brave, bold, compassionate, lead, courageous, loyal.   So, today, take some time to reflect on some of your unique characteristics and mannerisms and write them down in your Take Action Guide.   And, then come back for tomorrow’s tip where I’ll be sharing two more unique and uncopyable elements that make you YOU and that no-one else can copy. Today I want to speak about what I mean when I speak about being Uncopyable, and what it is NOT.   To me and what I’m supporting my clients in identifying are all of the unique and uncopyable elements about who they are, along with their journey and experience that no-one else can copy.  It’s uncopyable because it isn’t their history, their story, their journey. It’s YOUR’s and your’s alone.   Recently, I heard a business owner share that she attended a training and the facilitator told attendees – if you don’t have an interesting story – just make one up.  I don’t know about your definition of ‘make something up.’ However, making something up – faking it till you make it – is a deception, a lie.   And, as the Change Maker I know you are – you don’t need to fake it till you make it, nor do you make something up.  You just need to dig deeper to identify the unique and uncopyable aspects of you. And, that’s exactly what we’ll be covering tomorrow – and in this entire 30DaysToDistinction Challenge. It’s ALL important.  So, today’s tip – you don’t need to fake anything, nor do you need to ‘make something up.’ You just need to dig deeper and uncover the unique and uncopyable aspects that make you – YOU. Are you a multi-passionate person, who loves to learn, you have many interests, and you struggle to define who you are and how you can support people in one succinct statement? Yeah – me too. I struggled with that for YEARS. In fact, if you’ve followed me for a minute – you'd have heard me share before how as multi - passionate individuals who LOVE learning, we need to be mindful NOT to let our diverse interests - water down our message. Because focusing on too many things – without a clear and compelling outcome (which speaks to the outcome our ideal client seeks) will mean our message gets lost in the noise. One of the ways I watered down my message years ago was when I started speaking about social media to business groups. They’d heard about the success my co - host and I were having with leveraging social media to promote our podcast, so wanted me to share all of our secrets. I was happy too. However, what invertedly happened was that my core message of Personal Branding was watered down, as I spoke more about social media. Until one of my close colleagues hired a personal brand strategist, after completely forgetting that I could have helped her. That was a HUGE wake-up call for me. And, led me to become far more mindful of and strategic about what I spoke about and how I positioned my message. I wonder – when it comes to YOUR message... are you building your reputation as a go-to authority in your area of expertise? Or like me all those years ago, you’re watering down your message because of the vast topics you speak about?

In today’s tip, I want you to check back over the last 10 pieces of content you shared across your social media platforms, your blog, your podcast and ask yourself – are these aligned to a clear and concise message that positions me as distinguishable, uncopyable and irresistible in a clear area of expertise so I’m building my reputation as a trusted authority in a key area? Or not? If not, you need to make a decision as to how you’re going to refine your ONE thing, which you want to become known for. What is it that the combination of your experience, knowledge, and certifications will enable you to support YOUR ideal client to achieve their goals/outcomes? For me, it was helping clients stand out, be heard, and become influential voices in their industry. The trusted authority. THE choice vs just a choice for their ideal client.

In yesterday’s tip I shared what it means to be distinguishable and that it was NOT tooting your own trumpet and saying how wonderful you are and better than everyone and anyone else in your industry. But rather it’s about highlight areas that speaks directly to your ideal client and positions you being better-placed to serve and support them in achieving their goals and desired outcomes.  And the areas that can help you do that is in today’s tip – The Distinction Triad.  I can up with the Distinction Triad after working with a client and helped her put together her personal marketing document – her resume. She started her career working as an Office Admin and over the years had become a Change Management Consultant overseeing multimillion dollar IT change projects for semi-government organisations.   She had gone from strength to strength and as I wrote her achievement statements and reviewed her career I identified three distinct areas that she had continuously brought to the workplace that had seen her go from strength to strength and it’s something we can all use, whether we’re an executive working in corporate – or an entrepreneur working in our own business.  The three things are Aptitude, Attitude and Approach.    I'll talk about Aptitude a little further today, however, make sure you download the Declaration and Take Action Guide at www.IndustryThoughtLeaderAcademy.com/Distinction so you can begin to work on all three.    Let’s talk about Aptitude. Your Aptitude is your Talent. Your strengths, your skills and your knowledge.    Attitude if your character, mindset, belief and frame of mind.   And, your approach is your Style, your temperament, how you react to specific situations and your sensibility.   Each of these are important and when blended together can be powerful in becoming distinguishable, uncopyable and irresistible.   How clear are you on your Aptitude, your Attitude and Approach? Can you define them? And, are you leveraging them to distinguish how you are better-served to support your ideal client?     YOUR NEXT STEP:   Are you a coach or consultant who is struggling to stand out online? Being Distinguishable – what it is and what it is NOT.   Let’s start with what it is NOT.   Being distinguishable is NOT thinking and acting as if you’re all that.  In fact, it has nothing to do with being better or greater than anyone or everyone else. I  Being distinguishable is not about saying how wonderful you are, and big noting yourself, tooting your own horn.   In fact, it has nothing to do with feeding your ego at all.   Being distinguishable is about pointing out key areas that you know is going to stand out from the noise, capture the attention of your ideal client, because it resonates with them.  In fact, I have a saying: Being Distinguishable is NOT you’re better than everyone else, but rather how you’re better placed to support your ideal client.  Being distinguishable is about how you are unique and can demonstrate how your skills, knowledge, experience, achievements etc are distinguishable are set apart from others in your industry and best able to support your ideal client in overcoming the challenges that are keeping them stuck and achieving the outcomes they want to achieve.   It’s not about being better – but being better-placed to support your ideal client and validating that through the content and message you share.  Tomorrow's tip #6 is where I share The Distinction Triad and the areas you can bring into your content and message you share to show your ideal client how you are distinguishable and better-placed to support them.  See you tomorrow.  YOUR NEXT STEP:   Are you a coach or consultant who is struggling to stand out online?
