THE HUNGER is a hunting podcast that reflects on the adventures, stories, experiences, and rewards that come from pursuing wild game in wild places. Hosted by Josh Dahlke, lifelong hunter and outdoorsman. #theHUNGER
The beautiful, rugged landscape of Rancho Mababi is loaded with wildlife diversity. I joined outdoor writer Brad Fitzpatrick there, along with several other great friends and outdoor industry professionals, to go after Coues deer while testing a new bolt-action rifle from Mossberg. After wrapping up our first-ever hunt for these cagey little whitetails, Fitzpatrick and I got together to recap our comprehensive experience. We share stories from the hunt, along with helpful advice for rookie Coues deer hunters.

Alice Valenzuela and her husband, Roberto, were successful Silicon Valley entrepreneurs living among the "lifestyles of the rich and the famous." But they were struck by an epiphany that they didn't want to raise their children with a sense of entitlement, so they jumped ship to Sonora, Mexico, where they started over on Roberto's family ranch with no electricity or running water. In this episode, I sit down with Alice at Rancho Mababi during a Coues deer hunt (watch the video here) to hear the inspirational story, and also discover how hunting was introduced on the ranch.

My family's 130-year old farm in Todd County, Minnesota, is where I first learned to hunt and use a knife to process wild game for the table. My great uncle, Allan Skoglund, is one of the men who mentored me from an early age to understand hunting and respect all that nature has to offer. In this first episode of THE HUNGER podcast, we sit down at "The Farm" to discuss the history of this special place and tell stories about hunting ... including a deer hunt that I just wrapped up down the road, where I tagged a tremendous buck with a muzzleloader (watch the video here). This episode will help you trace the roots of my HUNGER for the outdoors and hunting.
