How can a person experience true peace and unity with others? The Apostle Paul answers that question as he encourages a group of Christians who are under attack from external and internal forces.
How can a Christian act like a Christian? There is no exhaustive list or set of rules to follow in the Christian life, so how can a Christian know how to act, speak and live in a way that is appropriate? Paul gives the answer in Philippians 1. In it, he tells Christians to live like who they are in Christ and he helpfully gives three ways in which they can specifically do so.
One of the most famous lines in the entire New Testament is found in Philippians 1:21 “For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” But what exactly does the Apostle mean? How does Christ change a person’s life and change the way they look at death. The explanation of this passage helps to answer these questions and it also provides a litmus test for genuine Christianity.

What is it about a group of Christians that can give their former pastor such confidence in them even as he sits in a jail cell? What gave Paul confidence in the Philippian Christians can be true of individuals today as well. Come see the characteristics of true Christians as we begin our study of the book of Philippians.

How does Jesus measure up to other religions and other gods? Paul faced that very question when he spoke to a group of Greek philosophers and citizens of Athens. His message has much to commend itself to our own time and situation which point us to Jesus.
Where do you put your peace and security? The day is certainly coming, so you have a choice and a potential change to make today.
Christians are told that we should expect the world to not understand us and even to be negatively hostile toward us. But why is that the case and how do we face it properly. Peter’s first epistle gives us the answer and the tools Christians need to face this challenge.
To whom do you run to when the sky seems to be falling and the ground is crumbling beneath your feet? The Psalmist reminds us that all earthly forms of refuge are weak and will one day collapse and give way, but those who make God their refuge and strength will never fall.
We are changed by Christ, however it’s hard to live the Christian life in our hostile world. How do we live out our changed life in holiness, and in our response to the world?
Paul writes to the church in Thessalonica, and even though they were living lives reflective of the call God had placed on their lives, Paul urges them to do even better. But he doesn’t stop there, he gives practical ways how to do this and key reasons they should be motivated to live this way. We live in a world that endorses and encourages sexual […]
Christians are called to abandon their old sinful way of life and to live a life that is distinctly holy. Because when a person becomes a Christian, God Himself gives them a new nature, one that desires and is able to please God.
Christians are called to love people in a way that’s different to the rest of the world. The apostle Paul says that our motivation to do so comes from an understanding of the present time. This passage unpacks for us what this time is and what difference it makes to how we live.

Jesus’ death took away our sins and satisfied the requirements of the law so that God would be satisfied with us! Because of this, we can rest physically and spiritually knowing that we do not need to prove ourselves (Exodus 20:1-11)

Work isn’t always a good pleasurable gift. If it was a good thing, why does it sometimes feel so bad and something we dread? In Genesis, we are reminded that the environment of our work has become difficult. However, after putting in the hard work we can trust God with the results. Our security should be in God who provides abundantly all our needs and not in our work (Genesis 3:6-19)
The post The Daily Grind: Work is Bad first appeared on Grace Church International.
For most of us, work can be difficult, tiring or even boring. But the Bible teaches us that work is part of what we were created to do in relationship with God. Work is not a punishment but a blessing! As we work, we should rejoice instead of grumbling because we do it out of love for God and his people.

Easter is the important time in the Christian calendar, even more than Christmas. Our entire faith rests on the belief that Jesus died on the cross and came back to life three days later. If this is not true, then our faith is useless. But if it true, then it means our sins are forgiven, we have new life now, and the certain hope of eternal life to look forward to (Matthew 27:57-28:6).

As human beings, we’re not good at waiting and are very quick to move onto something else that produces results. In James, we are encouraged to be authentic Christians and work at developing patience. Jesus’ coming is near, be patient and don’t give up at working hard in caring for each other, being accountable and spurring each other on in our walk with Him. (James 5:7-20)

Do you consider using your money, wealth, and possessions to invest in eternity? From James, if we take the Bible seriously then we really need to spend time considering how we view money and wealth for God’s purposes and will in our lives. (James 4:13-5:6)

We all want love and peace in our lives, yet we seem to be incapable of achieving it. This is because we are proud and selfish people who fight to get what we want. But the Bible tells that if we humble ourselves and come near to God in repentance, He will come near to us and give us grace through Jesus (James 3:13-4:12)

Do not underestimate the power of the tongue because of its size. It can leave scars for a lifetime, it can ruin someone’s life, it can start a war. But God did not give us our tongues to be used in this way. Use it to praise God and build up others for God’s glory (James 3:1-12)

Is it possible to be saved by just believing in Jesus? No, faith by itself means nothing unless it is followed by deeds. Faith and deeds are both necessary and inseparable in the life of a Christian. Your actions show whether you truly believe in something or not. So if you have faith in Jesus but it’s not evident in your life, then your faith is useless and dead. (James 2:14-26)

We live in a world where people are often judged and treated differently because of things like their ethnicity, gender, or social status. But rather than judging us, God shows us mercy through his Son Jesus. We should reciprocate by loving all people instead of showing favouritism and discrimination (James 2:1-13)

Many people who call themselves Christians do so because they believe the Bible is the word of God. But that alone is insufficient. Christianity is a religion that you have to put into action. There is no such thing as a non-practising Christian. You must listen to the word, and then do what it says (James 1:19-27)

What makes a genuine Christian? The book of James tells us that Christians will face trials with joy because we know that even suffering is a good gift from God to make us mature and complete. Though it is painful, we persevere as we look forward to the crown of life that awaits us at the end (James 1:1-18)

As Christians every day we are faced with difficult choices in the spiritual battle of this world which turn us away from God. However there is hope, for God is faithful, loving and forgiving but we must lament and bring it before Him in repentance. God loves us and wants us to be close to Him. He promises to forgive so there always hope for the Christian backslider through Jesus no matter the cause of the backsliding. We can have […]

King Saul looks impressive on the surface, but when placed under pressure the cracks begin to show. He was more concerned with doing what seems right rather than doing what God says. Christians can fall into the same trap of putting up godly appearances while living disobedient lives. But God doesn’t just want right actions, but the right heart as well. Our true character is revealed when we are under pressure, and will ultimately be revealed on the last day […]

In any gathering of people there are bound to be different opinions on various issues. How should Christians deal with disagreements in the church? Rather than insisting on things that causes others to stumble, we should willingly give up our rights in order to build up others. As people who continue to receive God’s love, we have an ongoing debt to love others. We are to love not only those who are our friends and family, but also those who persecute or hate us. We do this knowing that Jesus is coming back any moment now. We prepare for that day by giving up on worldly living and following in Jesus’ footsteps, so that we might be ready when God’s kingdom is fully at hand (Romans 13:8-14)

Last week we began looking at the idea of worship from Romans 12. What we treasure as the most valuable, most important thing in our life is what we worship. As Christians we worship God, but how does that translate into life? In the last few chapters of Romans, Paul outlines what worship looks like in a few different areas (Romas 12:14-13:7)

This Sunday we’ll look at Romans 12, where Paul tells us what true worship is about. And while there are things we are to do, they come out of a response to God’s mercies shown to us in chapters 9-11.
