This process is designed to guide our members toward God’s design through fellowship, teaching, and accountability within their church family. CFTROU 0182: Adding Neighborhood Schools
In this episode, we take a look at schools and the way they have operated alongside churches. In the past, schools and churches operated harmoniously serving the one another. However, cultural institutions in the present day are actively resisting Biblical principles and values, which has created a divide between church and school. At Family Church, we believe having a strong home-church-school relationship is the best way to pass down Biblical principles and values to the next generation. This is why we are working towards every single one of our neighborhood churches to have their own school. This episode’s guests include Scott Crawford, CFO and Business Administrator of Family Church and Jay Boggess, Superintendent for Palm Beach Christian and Treasure Coast Christian Academies. They are also members of Family Church. After speaking about the motivation behind the drive for more neighborhood schools, our guests outline the four vital distinctives of our neighborhood schools concept. In our last episode, we discussed the transition from the megachurch model to the neighborhood church model. You will learn how the neighborhood church draws people in. As we continue with the greatest hits from our recent Church for the Rest of Us Conference, we discuss how to prioritize a hospitality culture without sacrificing your systems and shepherding practices. Karen Brooks and Josiah Kish walk us through what this looks like in our context. Karen serves as the Director of Church Ministries at Family Church Gardens and Josiah serves as the Connections and Groups Minister at Family Church Downtown. They first walk us through the Biblical foundations of the teams they lead. Then, Karen defines hospitality at Family Church, while Josiah breaks down the tactics that our teams use to make sure the people in our neighborhood churches feel welcomed and at home. Karen and Josiah also talk about how to identify people that are new to our churches, in a way that feels organic and engaging. CFTROU 0168: Gender Identity & Youth Trips
We are bringing you the greatest hits of this year’s Church for the Rest of Us Conference. On this episode, we are joined by Tyler Core, Campus Pastor of Family Church Gardens, and Victoria Rodriguez, Student Ministry Assistant. Before Pastor Tyler transitioned to his current role, he previously led our student ministry team across our family of neighborhood churches. They discuss the topics surrounding the LGBTQIA2S+ community at our camp this year. We delve into the three fundamentals that make up God’s design for men and women and how we used those fundamentals to create a document of rules and policies. These rules and policies are intended to protect children, create an inclusive environment, and uphold the word of God. We explain our beliefs surrounding gender and sexuality and how we rolled out this new policy. Additionally, we inform our listeners of the mistake we made (and learned from) in our first year. We also share what happens when rules are broken at camp. Finally, we remind you of the importance of having discussions like these.

We are wrapping up our season of exploring the power of the neighborhood church and here with us today to tie it off in a perfect bow is Author and Lead Pastor, J.T. English. Every Christmas the bumper stickers appear – “Keep Christ in Christmas!” I wholeheartedly agree with that sentiment, but how do we make it more than just bumper sticker theology?
This Christmas we have developed a tool not only to keep Christ in Christmas but also to introduce Him to those who have yet to repent and believe the gospel. Our Family Church worship team has produced a Christmas CD with 8 songs in English y seis canciones en Español.
We released the album yesterday along with a 30-day Advent devotional book written by our Pastors and Ministry Leaders. It begins the first Sunday of Advent, November 29, and takes you and your family all the way through to Christmas Day. Also included are 5 easy-to-lead family devotionals, one for each Sunday of Advent and Christmas Eve/Day.
We are encouraging everyone at our church to “get one and gift one.” There are millions of South Floridians and millions more across our country who don’t know that Jesus came to save them. Christmas is a perfect opportunity to introduce them to “our Father, our Counselor, our Prince of Peace – He’s a mighty God.” (Those are a few of the lyrics from the original “Go Tell It” song.)

This is the outline of my last message at Jog Road Baptist Church, given on January 11, 2015. On the platform, I had white rocks piled high in each offering plate. These rocks were used when Jog Road dedicated the Worship Center in 1996.
“And coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected by men, but chosen and precious in the sight of God, you also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.” I Peter 2:4-5
“What do these stones mean to you?” These are stones of remembrance. (Joshua 4:6)
- I have had the joy of shepherding hundreds of families.
- We have been a place to heal and send into ministry.
- We have been on mission around the world.
- My family has been blessed.
“If anyone of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone…” (John 8:7)
- Making this kind of transition can make it easy to blame others and point fingers.
- We have sought God the best we know how.
- We have finished well at Jog Road.
- Stones are not for throwing.
“You are also like living stones being built up into a spiritual house.” (1 Peter 2:4-10)
- As a living stone, we build something with others.
- As a living stone, we “proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.” This is the privilege and responsibility of every follower of Christ.
Jesus is our cornerstone of salvation. Repent and believe the gospel!
At the end of my message, our ushers passed the offering plates to the congregation so everyone could take a stone out. Once everyone had a stone in his or her hand I asked this question:
What will you do with your stone?
- Will you ask Jesus to be your cornerstone?
- Will you remember God’s work through the people of Jog Road?
- Will you throw your stone in anger as you blame others?
- Or…will you join me, take your stone, and next week go to Family Church, or any other gospel-centered church, and say, “I am going to help build God’s Kingdom in this place…at this time!”
