Billions of people in the world are missing out on the New Testament message of abundant living. Human reason, including non-biblical ideas of “human love,” continues to lead the world toward suffering, confusion, and disaster. What is the true way to love and peace in the world? Most professing Christians know the answer, Matthew 22:37. Jesus Christ gave these two principles to be obeyed by every human being: “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.” [Matthew 22:37-40]My friends, this is the way to true life, meaning, and fulfillment. But why do so few enjoy this true life? Because human beings do not like to be told what to do. These are “commandments” and humans resist commandments, including the Ten Commandments.But many would rather remain ignorant, because it suits their selfish desires. Aldous Huxley, the famous English author, expressed this perspective well: “Most ignorance is vincible ignorance. We don't know because we don't want to know. It is our will that decides how and upon what subjects we shall use our intelligence.” (Ends and Means, p. 312). But there IS a God, and He commands us to love Him! The First Great Commandment to love God is defined by the first four of the Ten Commandments, and the Fourth Commandment of the Ten emphasizes a weekly action in loving God.Exodus 20:8–10, “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God.”Which day is the Christian Sabbath? In 1882, philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche famously declared “God is dead.” Today, more than 140 years later, some might argue “THE CHURCH IS DEAD.” Or… at LEAST churches are DYING. And who could blame them for thinking that? Look around. In the Western world, church attendance is plummeting. Society is changing. Biblical morality is being ridiculed. And a sense of shared values seems to be evaporating… right before our very eyes.
The news feeds reflect this trend… and NOT just in America. Here are some recent headlines:
“Losing My Religion: How the UK is leaving the Church and gaining conspiracy theories” “How Canada’s religious makeup has shifted over the past 20 years” “Is Christianity dying in Australia? Here’s how to redeem it from the bottom up”
For many of us, these headlines might resonate. In cities and towns all over the Western world, church attendance is down. More churches are closing each year in the United States than are opening--in some years by a margin of almost 1,500 (“Study: More churches closing than opening,” ReligionNews.com, May 26, 2021).
And some predict that 1/3 of Canada’s churches may close in the coming years. (“Secularization: A Third of Canada’s Churches Will Close,” WorldReligionNews.com, March 17, 2019)
What does the future hold for the modern Christianity of our Western nations? Will it die out altogether?

Generals, dictators, and despots have tried to rule the world. Their capital cities were monumental and impressive. King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon built one of the designated Seven Wonders of the World, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. The historian Herodotus wrote, “In addition to its size, Babylon surpasses in splendor any city in the known world.”The Bible documents the King’s great pride and boasting over his accomplishments. The prophet Daniel had warned the king to humble himself. “At the end of the twelve months he [King Nebuchadnezzar] was walking about the royal palace of Babylon. The king spoke, saying, ‘Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for a royal dwelling by my mighty power and for the honor of my majesty?’” (Daniel 4:29-30).God punished King Nebuchadnezzar, who finally learned his lesson: “Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven, all of whose works are truth, and His ways justice. And those who walk in pride He is able to put down.” (Daniel 4:37).The Nazi dictator, Adolph Hitler, in his plan to rule the world, envisioned a world capital to last a thousand years. Albert Speer, Hitler’s architect for the future city, planned a Grand Hall next to the Reichstag that “would have been the largest enclosed space in the world, with a dome 16 times larger than that of St Peter’s in Rome” according to HistoryToday.com. (“Germania: Hitler’s Dream Capital”)Of course, Hitler fell before the Allied armies in World War II.Bible prophecy reveals that another great dictator, called the “Beast” in the book of Revelation, will desire to rule the world and establish his own capital. As it tells us in Revelation 13:7, “And authority was given him over every tribe, tongue, and nation.”The good news is that the coming King of kings will conquer and destroy this coming Beast power (Revelation 17:14) and Jesus Christ will establish a righteous world capital city. What city will become the capital of the world? In spite of today’s conflicts, Jerusalem in Israel will soon become the glorious capital of the world. Does that sound impossible? We understand the desire to escape this troubled world and live vicariously in a dream world. But what is the reality? A greater vision and a greater reality IS coming to this world soon. Your Bible describes the glorious transformation the world will experience. That new world to come is REAL! How often have others, with complete sincerity, offered “It’s all part of God’s plan” as a source of comfort in times of trouble? The problem is, that is often as far as anyone goes in describing that plan. The difficult follow-up that we have to ask is “If this is part of God’s plan, then what is that plan?”
There’s a popular myth that the second coming of Jesus Christ can happen at any time--maybe even tonight. Do you realize, dear friends, that is a false doctrine? He will not come tonight--not according to the Word of God. But wait, you may think. Doesn’t He return in a secret rapture that can happen at any moment to protect His true servants from the great tribulation? Again, not according to the Bible.
On today’s Tomorrow’s World program, instead of looking to popular Left Behind novels, we’ll open up the Bible and see what it actually says about this subject. We’ll see that Jesus Himself listed specific signs that must precede His return. What are they? And more importantly, what is the warning He gave along with that first sign? It’s an important one.

But there are equally profound social changes in society, not the least of which concerns how men and women see themselves. The feminist movement which really took off in the seventies has had a dramatic impact on culture and families. Has “reality” become a kind of escapism for some? The dictionary tells us that “reality shows” are “television programs that do not use professional actors but show real events and situations involving ordinary people.” (“Reality TV,” MacMillanDictionary.com).
Encyclopedia Britannica commented that at the end of the 20th century, “the reality genre was tending more toward voyeurism and less toward reality.” (“Reality TV,” Britannica.com).
Television programs and news portray both fantasy and reality. But we must face reality in major dimensions of life: business, science, industry, education, or religion. In the realm of mental health, awareness of reality often becomes a major element. For example, the legal definition for insanity is:
“mental illness of such a severe nature that a person cannot distinguish fantasy from reality, cannot conduct her/his affairs due to psychosis, or is subject to uncontrollable impulsive behavior.” (“Insanity,” Dictionary.law.com).
How many millions of people all over the world have difficulty distinguishing fantasy from reality? In our world today, we have many upsetting and disastrous events and trends. We face COVID-19 pandemic, raging fires destroying cities and vast areas killing one billion animals in Australia as well as buildings and humans; We face dramatic crises in the Middle East and Afghanistan. Floods, droughts, typhoons, hurricanes, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, wars and conflicts also affect millions of people around the world.
These are realities we all face. Scientific American magazine devoted one issue to “Searching for Reality in UNREAL TIMES.” [cover, September 2019]. But what is the GREATEST reality? My friends, there is a new world coming, a new world government called the Kingdom of God. We refer to it as Tomorrow’s World. Many people are waking up to the fact that our world is going in a terribly wrong direction. These are not normal times. The humiliating and disgraceful manner in which the United States and its allies pulled out of Afghanistan, is more evidence that the American empire is in a steep decline and the fallout from this disaster will have long-lasting consequences. In addition, we see record-setting heat and drought in much of North America, Australia, and many other parts of the world. We see internal instability in nation after nation. Your Bible reveals major prophetic events that you should be aware of. The biblical book of Revelation has puzzled millions. Many consider it a sealed book that is impossible to understand. Others have read into it their own differing and conflicting interpretations. Bible prophecy has foretold the chaotic world we all are experiencing at this time. The prophet Daniel revealed what he called “the time of the end.” God showed Daniel prophetic trends we are witnessing every day, Daniel chapter 12 and verse 4 states...
“But you, Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book until the time of the end; many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase.”
Even while we recover from coronavirus-related lockdowns, many cities and regions again face traffic congestion, reflecting the symbolic prophecy of Isaiah 2:7...
“Their land is also full of silver and gold, And there is no end to their treasures; Their land is also full of horses, And there is no end to their chariots.”
Knowledge, too, has increased exponentially in these end-times. Linguist Geoffrey Nunberg observed that one daily copy of The New York Times contains more information than the average seventeenth-century Englishman encountered in a whole lifetime. Futurist Buckminster Fuller as far back as 1982 said that the knowledge available to humanity was doubling every year. More recently, scientists at IBM found that as of 2020 knowledge was doubling every 12 hours.
But we need to seek the REAL knowledge. Daniel also foretold the Great Tribulation, later confirmed by the Messiah, Jesus of Nazareth, in Matthew 24. Daniel 12:1…
“And there shall be a time of trouble, Such as never was since there was a nation, even to that time.”
Bible prophecy reveals the future for all nations in the next decade and beyond. Do you know what happens after the Great Tribulation? The Book of Revelation and many other prophecies reveal the sequence of events and the prophetic Day of the Lord. The Day of the Lord is coming soon. It is the time of God’s judgments on the rebellious nations of this world. Will you and your family be prepared? You need to understand the Day of the Lord in Bible prophecy.
Are you betting for, or against God’s existence? Think about it. You may not consider yourself a gambler, but how you live your life is the greatest gamble you will ever take. Either God does exist, or He doesn’t. And if He does exist, how far will you go to live according to His will? Will you go all in with God? Or will you draw a line in the sand and say, “Thus far and no further”?

The coronavirus pandemic, major rioting, fires, wars, and natural disasters caused many to consider 2020 a year to forget. The effects of this pandemic damaged economies all over the world and intensified the negative conditions in poorer countries. Regulations countering the pandemic included quarantines and, in some cases, months of isolation. Some communities even enforced stringent curfews confining families to their homes for long periods of time. But one of the most damaging effects on many individuals was that of separation from face-to-face socialization leading to severe loneliness.
Loneliness has always been a social problem, but the problem has become so severe in Japan that the government established a “Minister for Loneliness”! The Independent reported: “Japan has appointed a minister for loneliness following a recent rise in the number of suicides and the coronavirus pandemic’s exacerbation of the issue” (Clea Skopeliti, Independent.co.uk, February 25, 2021, 15:40).
Is loneliness one of your serious problems? If so, you need to solve that problem and experience success, happiness, contentment, and hope. Your Bible gives multiple solutions. One of the major solutions to loneliness is the help of a faithful friend. You need to know the way to true love and peace. And you need to know Who can be your greatest friend!

We all need friends, but the national shutdowns due to the coronavirus have interfered with normal socialization and fellowship. The coronavirus pandemic caused many governments to virtually “shut down” cities, states, provinces, and whole nations. In April 2020, BBC News reported: “Coronavirus: The world in lockdown in maps and charts.” The report described “How the world shut down. The approaches to dealing with coronavirus across the world have been wide-ranging to say the least. In Colombia the days that you’re allowed to leave the house depend on the number of your national ID card; in Serbia a designated dog-walking hour was introduced; and in Belarus the president has gone against medical advice, recommending vodka and saunas as a way to stay safe. Some of the more common approaches have seen governments issue recommendations on social distancing for part or all of the country, while others have acted to restrict all non-essential internal movement. The latter is often called a lockdown” (BBC.com).
BBC News indicated that starting in April of 2020, more than 70 countries introduced nation-wide lockdowns, including France, Germany, the UK, Russia, Italy, Spain, South Africa, and New Zealand. The restrictions in some areas resulted in strict isolation affecting the mental health of many. The nation of Japan, facing an unprecedented increase in death and suicide in pandemic-stricken 2020, instituted an aggressive solution to loneliness; it appointed a Minister for Loneliness. The Independent reported: “Japan has appointed a minister for loneliness following a recent rise in the number of suicides and the coronavirus pandemic’s exacerbation of the issue” (Clea Skopeliti, Independent.co.uk, February 25, 2021, 15:40).
On today’s program, we’ll discuss principles of friendship and biblical examples of both faithful and unfaithful friendships. We will also discuss the Bible’s awesome revelation of One who can be our greatest Friend!
Ancient King David, before he became king, was anointed by the prophet Samuel to be the next king after King Saul. You can read about that in 1 Kings the sixteenth chapter. Most of you know the story of David’s victory over the giant Goliath and his subsequent military victories. King Saul was jealous and even tried to kill David two times. But Saul’s son Jonathan, who would ordinarily be considered the next king, became David’s best friend. In 1 Samuel 20, Jonathan affirms to David that he will do all he can to protect David from King Saul’s anger, and pledges his friendship with David. 1 Samuel 20:16:
“So Jonathan made a covenant with the house of David, saying, ‘Let the LORD hold David’s enemies accountable.’”
And Jonathan had David reaffirm his vow out of love for him, for Jonathan loved David as he loved himself.
This rare example of faithful and loving friendship was in the context of God’s blessing. Remember the remarkable statement in Acts 13:22 regarding David’s character:
“And when He [God] had removed him, [King Saul] He raised up for them David as king, to whom also He gave testimony and said, ‘I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My own heart, who will do all My will.’”
Yet, King David knew that his closest fellowship was with God, who had blessed him and delivered him through numerous trials. When betrayed by his old friend Ahithophel, David reflected in Psalm 55:16,
“As for me, I will call upon God, and the LORD shall save me. Evening and morning and at noon I will pray, and cry aloud, and He shall hear my voice.”
My friends, you and I
Is it true that billions of people who live and die without accepting Jesus Christ are lost forever? If so, would that include those who never heard His name? What about babies who died before they were old enough to comprehend what it means to accept the only name under heaven whereby one may be saved? What if their parents were Hindus, Muslims, atheists, or simply not interested in religion? Is there any hope for them or, for that matter, their parents? What about the Apostle Paul’s warning that even Satan has his ministers who appear as ministers of righteousness? As he said, some were worshiping a different Jesus, had a different spirit and a different gospel. Does this mean all of these are lost? No matter how sincere one may be, can all the differing sects and denominations, teaching very different doctrines, with radically different approaches, be right?
Are all these ignorant and deceived people lost forever? Is God fair? Does He love everyone, or only the few?
The surprising answer comes straight from the pages of the Bible, so stay with me.
Welcome to Tomorrow’s World where we open the Bible for answers to the truly big questions of life. Today I’ll be answering the questions, with all their ramifications: Does God love everyone? Is He giving everyone a fair chance? Are people who never heard of Christ lost forever?
The Apostle John quotes Jesus as saying,
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life (John 3:16).
This is likely the most quoted scripture in all the Bible, but how many understand it? How many understand that Jesus was saying that His Father loves, not just the few, but the whole world? And He went on to say,
For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved (John 3:17).
“The world” is not a reference to planet Earth, but rather to the people who dwell here. But then there is that troubling scripture that tells us there is only one name under heaven whereby one can be saved. We read this in Acts, the fourth chapter. The context is the occasion where Peter called on the name of Jesus Christ to heal a crippled man. The result was that Peter and John were hauled before the council. We pick up the story beginning in verse nine:
If we this day are judged for a good deed done to a helpless man, by what means he has been made well, let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by Him this man stands here before you whole (Acts 4:9–10).
Then in verse twelve, referring to the name of Jesus Christ, we read:
Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12).
So here we have a dilemma. No matter how you count it, with this passage in mind, by any reckoning there have always been more that are “unsaved” than “saved.” Think of the billions who lived and died who never even knew of the Bible or its message. Think of the people who died in North and South America or some faraway island prior to the life of Christ.
Are these not part of the world? Are they forever lost? Is God so weak that He cannot save the world that He says He loves? Is the adversary stronger than God? If not, this leads us to the inevitable question “Is God fair?” Is He a respecter of persons? Has everyone—or will everyone—have a genuine and fair chance for the opportunity for salvation?”
We had a repairman in our home one evening and we got into a discussion on this subject. He contended that if someone far away wanted to know about God, that God would reach him some way. Not only was that illogical, it’s contrary to scripture. Note what the Apostle Paul tells us in Romans 10, and verses 13 and 14:
For “whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.” How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? (Romans 10:13–14).
The fairness of God is a question many have struggled with. There are numerous ways theologians try to explain this conundrum, but all explanations coming from mainline Christianity miss the mark.
Prophetic Misunderstandings - Presenter: Michael Heykoop (TVCA1052) The Bible is a book claiming to be man's clearest link with his Creator. It is a book of wisdom, a book filled with knowledge and principles of living which ring true even 2000 years after being recorded. One aspect of this book which has fascinated many is the central claim that it contains prophecies for the future, but there are many prophetic misconceptions which must be revealed.
The Judeo-Christian Ethic - Presenter: Stuart Wachowicz (TVCA1032) The phrase “Judeo-Christian” is predominantly used in reference to the idea that the dominant values of Western nations originated in Christian and Jewish thought and beliefs. It has shaped most of the institutions and cultures of the western world. This has occurred despite the fact that many of those who believe they are following Judeo-Christian values actually reject its very founding principles.

What if new, more contagious strains develop that are resistant to vaccines? Or, what if this is only the beginning of far worse diseases we have never dreamed of? This program isn’t going to forecast never-ending doom and gloom. That’s not our belief or our focus. There IS a lot of good news to talk about. God has a plan for our world. Is the Bible the word of God? Or is it merely the writings of delusional men? According to one of today’s most outspoken anti-god crusaders, it’s the latter. One can hear the disdain coming from Richard Dawkins when he declared in The God Delusion:
To be fair, much of the Bible is not systematically evil but just plain weird, as you would expect of a chaotically cobbled-together anthology of disjointed documents, composed, revised, translated, distorted and “improved” by hundreds of anonymous authors, editors and copyists, unknown to us and mostly unknown to each other, spanning nine centuries. (Richard Dawkins, The God Delusion, 2006, p. 90).
On the surface, Dawkins may sound good to those who have an anti-biblical bias, or are simply ignorant of the Bible, but his facts are not quite correct, and he fails to see the overall picture and the unity of thought found in this remarkable book. So what is the answer to the question? Is the book we know of as the Bible the word of God or the work of men?
I’ll answer this question today on Tomorrow’s World, and give you three reasons you can have confidence in the Bible. Dr. George Barna, Director of the Cultural Research Center at Arizona Christian University, revealed these findings in The American Worldview Inventory 2020 regarding American Evangelicals:
The most startling realization regarding the theological reformation in progress is how many people from evangelical churches are adopting unbiblical beliefs….
Perhaps the most alarming of the shifts is that a majority of adults aligned with an evangelical church (52%) contend that there is no absolute moral truth; in their view, truth is uniquely determined by each individual according to their preferences and circumstances. That perspective equates to most evangelicals believing that the Bible is either not inerrant or trustworthy in its content—or that the Bible is neither completely true nor reliable. That stand is a radical and critical departure from the traditional teachings and biblical reliance of evangelicals. (“American Worldview Inventory 2020 Results – Release #11: Churches and Worldview,” Arizona Christian University, November 10, 2020).
The picture is even more bleak among Pentecostals, mainline Christian denominations and Catholics. What is happening my friends? And where is this leading?
[Dr. Barna] surveyed 51 beliefs and behaviors among Christian groups and [he] found that rather than transforming the culture around them with biblical truth, the opposite is happening. American Christianity is rapidly conforming to the values of the post-Christian secular culture.
What we see today is a generation that worships a God of their own image, rather than seeing God as He reveals Himself. And does any rational person think that such an idol of the mind can bring life after death? Perhaps you are among the increasing minority who believes that the Bible is God’s instruction book for mankind. If so, this program is for you. In this episode, we’re going to discuss the world of “New Gods” and “New Sins” that surrounds us today. Now it might sound strange to speak of “New Gods” and please don’t misunderstand me. What Jesus Christ told His disciples on that Passover evening 2,000 years ago is still true today: “And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the ONLY TRUE GOD, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent” (John 17:3).
But the more you examine the world around you, increasingly you see a wilderness of new religions growing up like weeds. These aren’t the traditional religions of the past, focused on the ancient gods of, say, the Greeks, or the Egyptians, or Norse mythology. Yet, their followers are every bit as fiercely passionate as those ancient pagans may have been. And their devotion to their deities every bit as complete.
The sort of “gods” we’ll discuss today are reflected in the words God spoke to the prophet Ezekiel in his condemnation of ancient Israel—a condemnation that rings just as true today. Ezekiel wrote, “And the word of the LORD came to me, saying, ‘Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their hearts, and put before them that which causes them to stumble into iniquity…’” (Ezekiel 14:2–3).
“They have set up IDOLS IN THEIR HEARTS.” It’s easy to think of idols as statues of stone or gold—or even as engravings, icons, and other artwork. And such items often DO violate the Second of the Ten Commandments, to be sure!
Yet God reveals here that idol worship goes FAR BEYOND what we create with our hands! Man is particularly adept at creating idols in his HEART—false gods, to which he devotes himself religiously, submitting his mind, his actions, his morals, and his conscience.
And, my friends, today we are living in a virtual PANTHEON of idols of the heart: POLITICAL PHILOSOPHIES, SOCIAL CAUSES, IDENTITY ISSUES, NEW WORLDVIEWS… the world around us represents a growing collection of “New Gods,” ready for you to become their follower—and ready with lists of enlightened “New Doctrines,” “New Dogmas,” and “New Sins” for you to agree with and embrace as your own.
More than that—the followers of these “New Gods” are increasingly ready to wield power to FORCE belief in their faith upon the world and ready to PUNISH those who will not fall into line.
Unlike biblical Christianity, which from the beginning sought to win people’s hearts and minds through sound words and good example, the acolytes of these “New Gods” are more like what is seen in the apostate Christianity that followed: willing to do whatever it takes to forcibly compel either confession or compliance.
Whether it is the power of the courtroom, the power of the legislature, the power of the markets, or the power of the media, the faithful acolytes of these “New Gods” seek to punish anyone who dares defy the faith to which they have devoted themselves so fully.
In a moment, we’ll begin our look at several of these “New Gods”—including one that, I freely admit, truly breaks my heart.
Let’s take a look at some of the philosophies, worldviews, and mindsets of man that have been elevated to the status of “godhood” in our society today.
The first we’ll consider is SCIENCE. This one breaks my heart because I love science. Proverbs 25:2 tells us, “It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, but the glory of kings is to search out a matter,” and, to me, the practice of science demonstrates one of the best examples of searching out a matter.
Through the scientific method, human life has been greatly enhanced, and many sources of human disease, discomfort, and distress have been addressed. We’ve learned some of the secrets of the universe, and our understanding of our world is richer for it.
Yet science isn’t God. It doesn’t tell us right from wrong. The theories and experiments that revealed the secrets of the subatomic world also allowed us to build the weapons that would devastate Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945, killing thousands.

The Challenges of Dealing With Depression (TVCA931) - Presenter: Stuart Wachowicz Across the world a new plague is eroding health, wealth and happiness in a manner that is more pervasive than most realize. The dark cloud of depression is affecting individuals, young and old, at all levels of society. It is quite possible you or people close to you are affected. There is a way to help overcome the challenge of depression.
Those who read and study the Bible find their lives enriched and enlightened by the divine guidance they discover within its pages. But that doesn’t mean they don’t trip up on a question or two now and then. Today, we’re going to take a look at a few questions we often receive about the Bible and show you how to determine solid answers, straight from God’s word. If you are a regular viewer of our program, you know that we base everything we teach on God’s word, the Bible. When Jesus Christ prayed to God the night before His crucifixion, He asked His Father to set His followers apart from the world around them, saying, “Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.” [John 17:17.]
God’s word is THE TRUTH. No other source of knowledge reflects the very mind of the Creator like the Bible, and the answers to life’s greatest questions are found in its pages.
But that doesn’t mean that every part of it is easy to understand! In fact, some things we read in the Bible can be confusing. But the answers ARE THERE, waiting for the diligent student, with God’s help, to find them. Today, we’re going to tackle a potpourri of three Bible questions that students of God’s word sometimes ask, and we’re going to show you the Bible’s own answers to those questions.

As for today’s “Bible Q&A,” here are the questions we will address:
1 Does Jesus Christ command Christians to hate their family members? 2 Exactly how did Judas Iscariot die? 3 (And) Why are there souls under the altar in the book of Revelation?
First, let’s begin by reading a passage that generates questions among many and see what the Bible has to say about it. If you have a Bible handy, turn to Luke 14:26, where Jesus is teaching a great multitude. He tells them,
“If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple.”
Reading this verse, many have asked: “Does Jesus really command Christians to hate their family members?”
Of course, the idea that Jesus is literally commanding His followers to hate their mother, father, and others would INDEED be contrary to many of His other teachings. Whenever you come across an apparent contradiction like this in the Bible, it should always grab your attention, because the Bible—including Jesus’ teachings—never contradicts itself. Christ makes this point, Himself, in John 10:35, reminding the Jewish leaders in His audience that the “Scripture cannot be broken.”
So, just what is He saying here in this passage? In understanding the Bible, it is important to understand the context surrounding the verse, instead of just reading the isolated verse. When we do so in this case in Luke 14, it is clear He is explaining the high standards His followers must meet. Rather than a “come as you are” policy, Jesus demands that people change in order to follow Him and that they commit their lives to Him fully. In verse 27 of that chapter, for instance, Jesus explains that one must be willing to bear his own cross to be one of Christ’s disciples—not a literal cross, but bearing the burden of persecution, difficulty, discomfort, and trial—even to death—just as He did. He says in verse 33 that His followers must be willing to forsake ALL that they possess—willing to give up anything else in their lives, and even their lives themselves, for His sake—or else they cannot be His disciples at all.
These passages give context for the message Jesus is trying to convey. He is telling the multitudes, and us, that we must consider HIM the most important part of our lives, versus all of the natural loves, comforts, and possessions we otherwise have.
He is NOT commanding His disciples to literally “hate” their family members. Consider earlier in the book of Luke, in chapter 6, where He commands Christians to love even their enemies:
“But I say to you who hear: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, and pray for those who spitefully use you.” [vv. 27–28.]
Why would Jesus command us to love our enemies and those who would seek to do us harm while commanding us to hate our family members? Of course, He wouldn’t.
Many people, especially young people, see God as harsh and stern—One who wants to take away all the fun in life. Many professing Christians see the God of the Old Testament as an out-of-touch old man demanding unreasonable requirements, but they see Jesus coming along to do away with those laws and replace them with the law of love. Do you realize, my friends, that these views are totally in error? The God of the Old Testament is not a stern out-of-touch Being, nor are His laws unreasonable.

Have you ever wondered WHY there are so many Christian denominations? Why isn’t there just one Church on which everyone can agree? An April 2017 Pew Research report found that there are about 2.3 billion professing Christians around the world. That’s 31 percent of planet Earth’s population at the time (“The Changing Global Religious Landscape,” PewForum.org, April 5, 2017). Listen to this amazing fact: The World Christian Encyclopedia identifies at least 33,000 Christian denominations, with 9,000 of those classified as “Protestant” and 22,000 as “Independents.” (Vol. 1, Oxford: University Press, 2001, p. 10)
WHY are there so many Christian denominations? The answer is found in the Olivet prophecy in your Bible, and in many other prophecies as well. When Jesus’ disciples asked Him about the end-times, He gave them several key signs. But what was the FIRST sign He gave them? Matthew 24:3, “‘Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?’ And Jesus answered and said to them: ‘Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many.’”
Yes, many DO come in His name, calling their religion Christianity and saying that Jesus is the Christ, but at the same time deceiving many. There are a few imposters around the world claiming to be Christ Himself, but what Jesus REALLY said was that many would proclaim Jesus as the prophesied Messiah, the Christ or the anointed one of God, yet preach against His true teachings.

How can there be such a vast difference between original Christianity and the so-called Christian traditions we see today? We’re living in a troubled world. And our problems have only gotten worse with the coronavirus pandemic. Some experts today say America is going through a mental health crisis. In fact, in October of 2020, the American Psychological Association created the publication Stress in America 2020: A National Mental Health Crisis. Consider some of the findings: “Despite several months of acclimating to a new reality and societal upheaval spurred by the COVID-19 pandemic, Americans are struggling to cope…. Nearly 2 in 3 adults (65%) say the current amount of uncertainty in our nation causes them stress. Further, 3 in 5 (60%) say the number of issues America faces currently is overwhelming to them…. Issues they are stressed about are not going away, they are piling up.”
Think about it. The effect of the virus has had a dramatic impact on many more people than just those touched directly by the sickness. The societal disruption it has caused has affected the mental and emotional health of millions of Americans. And it’s the same in many places around the world. On October 5, 2020, the World Health Organization published an article stating: “Bereavement, isolation, loss of income and fear are triggering mental health conditions or exacerbating existing ones…. In a recent KFF poll, nearly half (45%) of adults in the United States reported that their mental health has been negatively impacted due to worry and stress over the virus.”

Some of the most famous words ever written are, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1).
The Second World War ended 75 years ago and a shrinking number are old enough to remember it firsthand. Those who fought in that terrible war, and those civilians who endured it, are dying off. They were my parent’s generation. The war was etched deeply upon their minds and hearts and I remember them taking me to the American Cemetery in Cambridge England. The Memorial Day ceremonies included a plane flyover to drop flowers from the sky over the precisely aligned white crosses where 3,812 Americans were buried. And a wall contained the names of 5,127 others that were missing in action.
It was an impressive sight, but my twelve-year-old mind couldn’t take in the meaning of it all. And for that matter, who can? While a cemetery is a meaningful reality of the conflict, it hardly encompasses the total brutality of a fight that engulfed the whole world and cut short the lives of some 60 to 70 million people, with far more bearing physical and emotional scars.
After the greatest conflict in man’s history, we’re still looking for the way to peace. There have been dozens of wars in the intervening 75 years, but all limited in scope in comparison. One must ask, “Are we making progress toward a more peaceful world?” Surely, there will never be a World War III! Nations are not that foolish. Or are they?
Have we seen the war to end war? Can mankind learn the way to peace? There are answers to these questions and the answers may surprise you. There IS good news, so stay tuned.

Secrets of the Cuban Missile Crisis - Presenter: Gerald Weston The Cuban missile crisis of 1962 nearly brought the world to the unthinkable, a nuclear exchange between the United States and the Soviet Union -- in popular parlance, Armageddon. If you have your Bible, turn to the Book of REVELATION, CHAPTER ONE. The Apostle John writes in REVELATION, the FIRST CHAPTER, VERSE 10, “I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s Day, and I heard behind me a loud voice, as of a trumpet.”
John is NOT speaking of a day of the WEEK. He is speaking of the prophetic period of time described in the rest of the book as the Prophetic DAY OF THE LORD. John is NOT referring to Sunday. If he were, he would have referred to Sunday as “the first day” of the week as he did in the Gospel of John. Jesus Himself said He was Lord of the Sabbath, as it tells us in Mark 2:28! For today, we will focus on the United States. And depending on your perspective, the U.S. may or may not seem like a nation on the brink of destruction and desolation. But all of these measures of success are temporary. TRUE success in life is defined by LASTING values that society cannot take away.

What is the Highest Goal in Life? Too many people equate success with monetary wealth. They want to get rich quick. The global market size of online gambling was forecasted to reach over 59 billion U.S. dollars in 2020, growing by around 20 billion U.S. dollars in just five years. Is gambling the secret way to true success? Of course not. In fact, one of the proverbs in your Bible gives this warning: PROVERBS 23 and verse 4, “Do not overwork to be rich; because of your own understanding, cease! Will you set your eyes on that which is not? For riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away like an eagle toward heaven” (Proverbs 23:4-5).

One of the wealthiest individuals who ever lived was ancient King Solomon of Israel. He was striving to experience “life to the full.” What did he discover? ECCLESIASTES 2 and verse 10, “Whatever my eyes desired I did not keep from them. I did not withhold my heart from any pleasure, for my heart rejoiced in all my labor; and this was my reward from all my labor. Then I looked on all the works that my hands had done and on the labor in which I had toiled; and indeed all was VANITY and grasping for the wind. There was no profit under the sun” (Ecclesiastes 2:10-11).
Solomon designed and engineered many complex projects including irrigation systems, symphonic orchestras, and choral groups. He held great treasures of silver and gold. He states in ECCLESIASTES 2 and verse 7, “I acquired male and female servants, and had servants born in my house. Yes, I had greater possessions of herds and flocks than all who were in Jerusalem before me. I also gathered for myself silver and gold and the special treasures of kings and of the provinces. I acquired male and female singers, the delights of the sons of men, and musical instruments of all kinds. So I became great and excelled more than all who were before me in Jerusalem. Also my wisdom remained with me” (vv. 7-9).
King Solomon also had 700 wives and 300 concubines. Did they give him lasting happiness? His wives eventually persuaded him to worship false gods, and he paid a dear penalty! With his wisdom that remained, Solomon understood that a lifestyle WITHOUT the security, blessing, and guidance of Almighty God was a striving after wind, worthlessness, and vanity. Are YOU living a life of vanity? Now is the time to start applying the Seven Laws of Success. Perhaps you are applying four or five, but let’s consider all seven!
Many decades ago, the predecessor of this Work, Herbert W. Armstrong, pioneered seven Biblical principles, which he called, “The Seven Laws of Success.” These principles can help you, your family, and your children. What are those seven laws? Welcome to Tomorrow’s World where we hold out a real hope for a better world. But we also don’t shy away from reality, and the facts are, that there are far more dangers than many realize.
The Cuban Missile Crisis is ancient history to most people alive today. After all, October 1962 was nearly six decades ago, and anyone under the age of 70 probably only has vague memories of it, if any at all. That frightening time is ancient history to younger generations, when two superpowers with weapons of massive destructive power came to the brink of war. Even for those of us who lived through those perilous days, and are old enough to remember, details have faded, and even we did not know the whole story.
We might also add that the subject of history has been de-emphasized in public education in the West and replaced by Social Studies. That substitution for history seemed innocuous enough when I was in school in the late 50’s and early 60’s, but the replacement of history by social studies continues to evolve. In fact, it was a clever sleight of hand. Words have meaning and social studies is not the same as history! Today’s secondary schools and universities, and even primary schools, pump leftist propaganda into young minds in an attempt to transform society and re-write history.
So how can we blame younger generations for lacking understanding of events for which they were never taught and have no context? Even their parents may not know. If they learn anything about the Cuban Missile Crisis it is likely that the Soviet Union and Cuba were victims of Western imperialism. This does not imply that all are in the dark. Not all schools are alike. Some have strong courses in both ancient and modern history; and many very bright young people study on their own and are well-informed. Sadly, that is far from the norm.
Following World War 2, feature films in theaters (at least in the United States) were often preceded by cartoons and newsreels. I still remember how Fidel Castro and his Cuban revolutionaries were praised in these newsreels, but following his successful overthrow of the Batista regime, to the dismay of America and its western allies, Castro declared his allegiance to communism and the Soviet Union. A potential enemy only 90 miles away created a problem for the United States and Canada. And what affected America would have consequences for the rest of the world.
The reality of the problem became apparent when Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev secretly moved more than 41,000 troops into Cuba between July and October 1962. But more troubling was the discovery that Khrushchev had also ordered medium and intermediate range missiles, capable of carrying nuclear weapons that could reach Atlanta, Dallas, Detroit, New York, and Toronto. That was a bridge too far for the North American alliance, and was a direct challenge to John F. Kennedy, the young American president.
Kennedy consulted with top military brass and advisors and chose what history shows was the wise response--to quarantine Cuba. That was a word used to avoid the word blockade--which would amount to a declaration of war. Welcome to Tomorrow’s World, where I’m going to explain an absolute truth that few others have the courage to give. COVID-19 was entirely preventable. It did not have to happen. I explained this publicly regarding SARS, Ebola, and numerous other diseases in 2011 and 2014. Don’t believe me just because I say this. Check it out for yourself! Sadly, the very people who should be teaching mankind these things have been negligent in doing so. Worse yet, those professing Christian ministers reject the very knowledge that would save mankind from all this heartache and suffering. They’ve chosen to dismiss this knowledge, spelled out in the very book they claim to represent! COVID-19 did not arise out of thin air. It had a cause. There is more than one theory as to how it began, and the exact details may not be known at this time, and may never be known. Many believe it accidentally escaped from a biohazard lab in Wuhan, China, where the coronavirus was found in horseshoe bats that were being studied. Others think that it came from a nearby “wet market” where exotic animals are sold for food. This is the official view coming from China at the time of this recording, but since some people are asymptomatic, the first person exposed to the virus may never be known. He or she may not work for the bio-lab and may never have visited the wet market. But whether from the biohazard lab, or the “wet market,” all trails lead back to the horseshoe bat, or some intermediary animal that got it from the bat, such as the suspected pangolin. Scientists believe SARS, which emerged in 2002, originated in a wet market in or near Hong Kong. Bats are used in traditional Chinese medicine as well as gourmet food in that part of the world. SARS, MERS, Nipah Fever, and Ebola are all traced back to bats, though human infection comes from an intermediary. Scientists know exactly where to look when a new pathogen attacks humanity—the meat market. That is where they traced SARS. They first thought it originated from a Civet Cat, a creature that is considered a delicacy among the Chinese—that is until SARS, at which time thousands of these animals were killed and are no longer sold legally in China. While there are various speculations about the exact route to humans, the Encyclopedia Britannica on the subject gives this explanation:
“Viruses that infect animals can jump from one species to another, causing a new, usually severe disease in the new host. For example, in 2003 a virus in the Coronaviridae family jumped from an animal reservoir, believed to be horseshoe bats, to humans, causing a highly pathogenic disease in humans called severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS). The ability of the SARS coronavirus to jump from horseshoe bats to humans undoubtedly required genetic changes in the virus. The changes are suspected to have occurred in the palm civet, since the SARS virus present in horseshoe bats is unable to infect humans directly” (“Evolution of new virus strains,” Britannica.com, April 21, 2020).

In his popular book The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, humorist Douglas Adams described a race of hyper-intelligent beings who felt burdened to finally answer the question of life, the universe, and everything.
After building a massive computer that spent 7 and a half million years calculating, the computer concluded that the answer was simply, “42.” As you can imagine, that answer brought little comfort.
But the meaning of life isn’t just a question for fictional philosophers.
Even King David, the poet-warrior of ancient Israel, famously asked in the Psalms,
“When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have ordained, WHAT IS MAN that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that You visit him?” (Psalm 8:3–4).
What is the meaning of life? Do our lives have purpose?

The Good News You’ve Never Heard Before
Welcome to Tomorrow’s World. On today’s program we are going to look into the Bible, and see what the message was that Jesus of Nazareth brought to this world. You may very well be surprised, even shocked, to learn the truth of this GOOD NEWS. After all, good news is what the term gospel means. So, what exactly is that good news?
Whatever that message was that Jesus preached, it was controversial, because the religious leaders of His day were so upset with Him that they stirred up His own countrymen and put Him to death! Why such hatred?
People everywhere refer to Jesus’ message as the gospel. We hear of: Gospel music The message of the gospel Gospel preaching The old fashion gospel And the four gospels
But what exactly is the gospel? Many believe they know, but do they? Do you?
Perhaps the most common belief is that the gospel is about the person of Jesus, about His death, burial and resurrection. Or, it may simply be put, “Jesus died for our sins.” Now this truly IS good news, because we have all sinned and the penalty of sin, according to the Bible is death! As it tells us in Romans 6:23:
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Yes, that truly is good news. Indeed, we have no hope without that sacrifice! That IS part of the gospel, part of the good news. But here are a few questions to consider: What was the message Jesus preached PRIOR to his death, burial, and resurrection? Was He merely marking time until His crucifixion? Did what He preach during that time cease to be important?
If so, why was that message called the gospel? The answer is nearly totally neglected, but it’s easily found in the pages of your Bible. All you have to do is open the book and believe what it says. Sadly, almost no one understands or pays attention to that message. On today’s Tomorrow’s World program, I’ll show you what the message was that turned the world upside down. If you are a frequent watcher of television movies, you may have often noticed how doomsday movies appear on your screen. Modern filmmaking produces dramatic, realistic disaster movies. The 2018 Jurassic Park sequel, Fallen Kingdom, featured a dangerous volcano. The 2017 movie Geostorm saw its heroes fighting worldwide climate disruption.
Such movies warn us of cosmocide and the end of the world: Perhaps you’ve seen those or others, such as: Pandemic, The Day After Tomorrow, Deep Impact, Asteroid, Andreas, or Armageddon.
Are any of these disaster films portraying a real future? We don’t need to look too far into the past to see the reality of devastating disasters. In the summer of 2018, record fires ravaged thousands of square miles in California, destroying the city of Paradise with a population of 27,000. Fires spread at the speed of 50 miles per hour, killing scores who had no chance of escape. And who can forget the record-destroying “Boxing Day tsunami” in South Asia that killed more than 225,000 in December 2004? The 9-11 terrorist attacks on the Pentagon in Washington, DC and the World Trade Center in New York City still, to this day, symbolize global terrorism.
Will the earth survive at all? Your Bible reveals specific events leading to the end of this age. We are living in the end of the age of man’s grand experiment of governing himself. Can the 193 member states of the United Nations ever find the way to world peace? My friends, world history should give you the answer! World War II, less than 80 years ago, first introduced us to the danger of nuclear cosmocide. Nuclear, biological, and chemical threats continue to this day!
Have you considered the prospect of ultimate doomsday for planet Earth? What does your Bible predict? Matthew 24:21–22, “For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be. And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the [a]elect’s sake those days will be shortened.”
WHO will shorten those days to save us? Your Bible reveals that the Messiah, the Savior of the World, will return to this earth to prevent total cosmocide. Your Bible also predicts the awesome good news of a new world government under the King of kings, Jesus Christ. On today’s Tomorrow’s World program, I’m asking and answering questions regarding life after death. Will you live again? And if so, where might that be? Where did your ideas about heaven and hell come from? Try as you might to escape it, your death is certain and avoiding the subject won’t solve the problem. A common assumption is that humans have something often referred to as a soul, and that soul, whatever it is, is immortal. It cannot die but lives forever. If true, when you die that soul must go somewhere—usually thought of as heaven or hell. This idea supposedly comes from the Bible, but does it? What does the Bible say? You may be surprised. According to Jesus, the soul can be destroyed. And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. (Matthew 10:28) The highly respected New Bible Commentary Revised makes this comment about Matthew 10:28: The soul in biblical thought is not immortal, except when new life is conferred upon it through Christ (1 Tim 6:16; 2 Tim 1:10). Hell is therefore the place of its destruction as Gehenna, the Valley of Hinnom, was of the rubbish of Jerusalem (Matthew 10:28) (Robert E. Nixon, 1970, p. 829). The concept of the soul burning up, is found in John the Baptist’s prediction of the Messiah to come. Notice what he says the Christ would do. Matthew 3:12 His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather His wheat into the barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire. (Matthew 3:12) The wheat and chaff are clearly referring in this passage to saved and unsaved human beings. Nothing here indicates immortality. In fact, this passage clearly states the opposite. Perhaps the most famous passage of scripture is John 3:16, but how many stop to think what it says? Notice carefully, beginning in verse 14: And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:14-15) Now, consider what this is saying. Notice that it contrasts “perish” with “eternal life.” These are opposites. Now we come to that famous verse that many know, but few seem to understand—verse 16: For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. (John 3:16) The contrast is between everlasting life and perishing. Are we going to believe Jesus or not? Do we understand what perish means? Or are we going to change the meaning to fit traditions handed down to us? The Bible is consistent on this matter. The Apostle Paul shows this same contrast in Romans 6:23: For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23)
What a powerful statement that is! Think about it. “The wages of sin is death,” not eternal life in some kind of ever-burning hell. These are only a few of the scriptures that contradict popular traditions, but there’s more, much more. June 1969, a man was practicing flying a strange looking contraption, an awkward looking, dangerous, and difficult to fly machine, not practical for traveling from Los Angeles to London. Inside was a primitive computer that didn’t work very well and when it failed, the pilot took over. No matter, it was going to crash.
A month later this same pilot would be in a similar contraption on one of mankind’s most daring adventures and there would be no room for error. On July 16, 1969 our daring pilot and two other men sat atop a huge firecracker, waiting to blast off from the face of the earth. If successful, this 6-million pound, 36 story colossus of fire and thunder, would take three men on a trip one quarter of a million miles away. Destination? The moon.
Most things went remarkably well over the next few days, but not everything. Only later did we learn the details of how close to disaster Apollo 11 had come. I’ll be right back to give you the rest of the story of man’s first landing on the moon, so keep watching!

July 16, 1969 was a day for the history books as three men blasted off from the Kennedy Space Center at Cape Canaveral, Florida. Destination...the moon. Four days later, following a number of times circling the moon Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin gave farewell and separated from Mike Collins in the command module, and began their descent in the Lunar Module. From 12 miles up Armstrong and Aldrin raced across the face of the moon and began falling toward its surface, but such a bold adventure was fraught with many dangers and all did not go as planned. From several thousand feet above the surface, we pick up the story from science writer Rod Pyle, who explained how tenuous the landing was:
Apollo 11 was four minutes into its landing sequence when the terse words of its commander, Neil Armstrong, came from the speaker in Mission Control:
“Program alarm.”
Buzz Aldrin, sitting next to Armstrong in the descending Lunar Module, stared at the frozen display on the computer, which read “1202.” It was an error code, but for what? Controllers in Houston scanned their notes trying to figure out what ... the problem was. But time was running short.
“Give us a reading on the program alarm,” Armstrong said. He sounded tense, but no more so than during the simulations. It was hard to grasp that a life-or-death struggle was playing out 240,000 miles (386,000 kilometers) from Earth, in a small, fragile machine descending rapidly to the moon. Communications were spotty; the computer was threatening to quit, and Gene Kranz, the flight director for this first lunar landing, felt Mission Control slip a bit further behind the power curve.
The alarm meant that the computer could not handle the data it was being fed. Few people viewing the landing understood the urgency of the matter.
Landing a lunar module has been described as attempting to land a Boeing 747 from the passenger compartment. Armstrong already demonstrated how to crash a lunar lander only a month earlier where he ejected at the last instant and floated safely to the earth. But on the moon that was not an option. It was all or nothing. There could be no rescue. This was no longer practice or simulation. The crew was facing a serious danger. As Kranz related to Pyle several decades later:
“We would either land on the moon, we would crash attempting to land, or we would abort,” he said simply. “The final two outcomes were not good.”
Pyle Added,
“That is an understatement on a grand scale.”
But this was not the only problem. The landing site was strewn with large boulders and an alternate site had to be found and found quickly. Fuel was running precariously low. No one knows for sure, but the 30 second warning already sounded, and our brave astronauts clearly had only seconds of fuel remaining.
The estimated 600 million people from around the world watched the moon landing live and cheered when they heard the words, “the Eagle has landed.” Only later did details come out regarding how precarious the situation was.
This year marks the fifty-year anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission, when Neil Armstrong, stepped onto the surface of the moon and uttered the immortal words, “That’s one small step for man and one giant leap for mankind.” Fellow astronaut Buzz Aldrin and ten other men over the course of three and a half years followed in his footsteps, but Armstrong was the first. The last pair to do so were in December 1972.
The original Christian followers of the Messiah, Jesus Christ, believed in keeping the Fourth Commandment, “Remember the Sabbath day.” Jesus Himself observed the seventh-day Sabbath in Nazareth where He grew up. As an adult, He preached in the synagogues on the Sabbath (Luke 4:16). In the first century AD, after Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection, the Apostle Paul preached on the Sabbath to Gentile congregations. Now, two thousand years later, most professing Christians keep the first day of the week, Sunday, as the Lord’s Day. What happened to the Fourth Commandment, which states that God’s people should keep the seventh day holy? How did that major change take place? Which day should Christians keep holy? And WHO changed the Sabbath to Sunday? Your Bible and history give the answer!
Most professing Christians observe Sunday as a day of worship. And yet the Ten Commandments include instructions to observe the seventh day, Saturday. Jews around the world have worshipped for thousands of years on the Sabbath, the day that begins at sunset every Friday evening, and continues through to sunset on Saturday. Professing Christians meet for Sunday church services, proclaiming theirs is the true day for worship. My friends, which day should Christians keep holy? The first day of the week? Or the seventh? Throughout world history, various civilizations have recorded their days in weeks of four days or ten days. Yet the seven-day week is ancient. Records going back to ancient Babylon show observance of a seven-day cycle. The Jewish people have preserved a calendar with a seven-day week. History faithfully documents that the day we now call Saturday is the seventh day of the week, and Sunday is the first day of the week. Even when Pope Gregory XIII revised the calendar in 1582, he did not change the seven-day cycle. The seventh-day Sabbath today is the same seventh day observed by Jesus and the first-century Christian Church. If you have your Bible, turn to Acts 13:42. In the first century AD, the Apostle Paul preached on the Sabbath in the Antioch synagogue. Notice that his audience included BOTH Jews and Gentiles. After the Jews left, the Gentiles made a request. Now, this was YEARS after Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection. Surely, if Christians were to keep Sunday, these Gentiles would have met with Paul the very next day, Sunday. But did they? Acts 13:42, “So when the Jews went out of the synagogue, the Gentiles begged that these words might be preached to them…” WHEN? The next day, Sunday? No! Verse 42: “...the Gentiles not the Jews begged that these words might be preached to them the next Sabbath.” Read that again in your own Bible. “...the Gentiles begged that these words might be preached to them the next Sabbath.” NOT SUNDAY! Sure enough, Acts 13:44: “On the NEXT SABBATH almost the whole city came together to hear the word of God.” Paul met with Gentiles, not on Sunday, but on the Sabbath. New Testament Christians observed the seventh-day Sabbath.
