In what may be one of the worst real estate transactions in history, the prophet Jeremiah is told to purchase a field from his cousin. Though he would never set foot on the property, the land would serve as an object lesson that would remind a future generation about God's faithfulness. This week's sermon is all about LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION! Now, let's turn our attention to Pastor Brian for this week's sermon from Jeremiah, chapter 32.
Jeremiah’s prophecy of the New Covenant is one of the clearest signs pointing to the impact of the Gospel. Much of the prophecy in the Old Testament has layers of fulfillment. Jeremiah's words are certainly no exception. In Jeremiah, chapter 31, the prophet points to the hope of God's people being restored from their Babylonian exile. However, we recognize that there's an even greater fulfillment to his words when Christ returns. In today's sermon, entitled "Urban Renewal," we take a look at the hope that all of God's people have when God makes all things new. Let's join Pastor Brian with today's sermon from Jeremiah, chapter 31.
Jeremiah’s Book of Consolation begins in chapter thirty. In the next few chapters, the prophet points to the hope that is found in God’s future promises. Today, we consider how this hope is secured. Let’s turn our attention to Pastor Brian for today’s message entitled, “Hope Restored.”
Jeremiah's calling required him to live a life that was very much counter to the prevailing winds of his culture. The church today has a very different calling than Jeremiah, but there is still the expectation that we would not conform to this world. Christians ought to be outcasts and misfits as they seek to honor the Lord in this post-Christian world. Let's join Pastor Brian as he preaches from Jeremiah chapter 16.
It isn't uncommon to find Jeremiah 29:11 scribbled on a graduation card. Unfortunately, Jeremiah’s most famous verse is far better suited for Mother's Day than it is for graduation. Today, we explore how to contend for the faith of our children and grandchildren in a sermon entitled "Making Plans." Now, let's turn our attention to Pastor Brian for today's message from Jeremiah chapter 29, verses 10 through 14.
We find ourselves occupying a land that seems to grow increasingly familiar with each passing day. While it may be tempting to distance ourselves from this strange land, we actually find wise counsel from Jeremiah. The church today should seek the good of her community as a presence for good. Today, we consider how to be a blessing in a very strange land.
The Prophet Jeremiah was met with bold opposition from a man named Hananiah. Hananiah grew weary of Jeremiah's doom and gloom and decided to preach a very different message. There was only one problem: nothing he said was true. We live in a world with many competing messages. Christians today would be wise to consider the source of truth and guard our hearts against those things that cloud our understanding of the facts. Let's turn our attention to Pastor Brian as he shares this week's sermon from Jeremiah chapter 28, entitled, "The Land of Make Believe."
A conspiracy to rebel against the ruler? That sounds like the plot of a modern thriller, but in this case, it was the story told in Jeremiah 27. Through the prophet, God warned the people that they were on the verge of disaster if they followed through with their rebellion. In this week's sermon, Pastor Brian takes a look at this conspiracy and reminds us that there is no authority except that which comes from the Lord. Let's turn our attention to this week's sermon entitled "A Divine Lapdog."
Jeremiah’s people added sabbath-breaking to their long list of offenses. Of course, God gave them the opportunity to repent from this sin, just like all the rest. Christians often struggle with understanding and applying the sabbath. This week, we hope to understand how Christians can honor the sabbath in a uniquely Christ-honoring way.
Jeremiah's suffering was frequent and often excessive. In Jeremiah 20, we get a glimpse of one of Jeremiah's longest nights of suffering and his response to suffering. While we are not Old Testament Prophets like Jeremiah and will probably never find ourselves tortured in the stocks, we are called and set apart like Jeremiah, and there is plenty for us to learn about suffering from the Weeping Prophet.
Jeremiah's trial and Jesus' trial have some very similar features. The outcomes were very different, however. This Easter Sunday we consider how Jeremiah was delivered from death, but how Jesus was delivered unto death. But even death could not hold Jesus from winning his final appeal.
What happens where there is no one left to reign? Jeremiah faces that terrifying reality as the final kings of Judah meet their ends. Thankfully, Jeremiah reminds us that there is a greater king to come.
A work in progress. That is probably the best way to describe our lives as we seek to abide in Christ. That's why the bible frequently turns to the analogy of clay in the hands of a potter. The potter has ultimate authority over the clay: to make and remake it as he sees fit. This image of the potter takes center stage in today’s message from Jeremiah 18 and 19.
William Shakespeare once wrote, "To thine own self be true." While that may have been good advice in Hamlet, the saying doesn't really align with a biblical understanding of the world. Unfortunately, we live in a time when trusting in self is the way of the world. The prophet Jeremiah warned centuries ago: "Cursed is the man who trusts in man."
In today's message from Jeremiah, chapter 17, entitled "In Us We Trust," Pastor Brian challenges us to examine where we place our trust and consider the dangers of trusting in man.

This Christmas Eve, we skip forward a little in the book of Jeremiah to consider how the weeping prophet handles the promise of the Messiah. What we find is that even in the midst of Jeremiah’s dire warnings, there is still the promise of a hopeful future for the people of God. But that hope isn’t found in any earthly ruler.
Jeremiah’s ministry takes him to the heart of Judah’s religious identity. His powerful words challenge the people that true devotion to God isn’t found in their religious activities, but in their transformed hearts.
Jeremiah challenges the people to reconsider their choices. He calls on them to remember the “ancient paths.” This isn’t a call to sentimentality, rather it is a call to ground ourselves in something that has stood the test of time.
Jeremiah's warnings fell on deaf ears. His message was repeated over and over again in many different ways, but nobody paid any attention. In this text, we have a warning to be mindful of our own tendency to disregard God's clear instructions.
Jeremiah is sent on a quest to save the city of Jerusalem. All he has to do is find a good man. One good man and God will spare the city. As you can imagine, Jeremiah's quest comes up short. It would still come up short today. We are reminded, however, that there is one Good Man that is able to deliver people from sin. His name is Jesus
Judgment is at the door. God's people have to respond. Again, Jeremiah climbs through the generations and speaks to the church in her current situation.
God pleads with the nation of Israel to repent and return to him. Even as judgment is at the door, God is still reaching out to his people. The challenge for the church today is to live in a posture of repentance.
The LORD accuses Israel of two evils - Rejecting and Replacing Him. As a consequence, they looked for the good gifts from God in other places. The church is warned of the same patterns in today's text from Jeremiah 2.
This week, Jeremiah's first sermon challenges the nation to consider how far they've drifted from the LORD. God has been faithful, but the people have not. As Christians, we are challenged to mind our own walk with Christ to remain steadfast in Him.
The third part of Jeremiah's opening visions are specifically related to his resolve and his mettle. He is being called to an incredibly difficult ministry, so he will need all the mental and spiritual toughness available to him. Increasingly, the church's calling is to a hostile, disinterested culture. The church needs the resolve of Jeremiah all the more in our present moment.
I have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being[a] rejoices; my flesh also dwells secure. (Psalm 16:8-9)
Paul concludes his letter to Timothy with a call to war. As Timothy seeks to lead his people well, Paul challenges him to "fight the good fight" as he is surrounded by false teachers and dangers for his people. Join us as we take a look at how this challenge given to Timothy is still relevant for us today.

As the church grew and spread, it became necessary to formalize the requirements for the church's leadership. Today's sermon is to help us think through the selection of elders within the church.
The Lord gave the church a lot of liberty in how it should be organized. However, one thing he
was very specific about was the way the church should be led. This week, we look at the office
of deacon.
As Paul concludes his last known letter to the church at Thessalonica, he gives us a good reminder to stay the course. One day, the waiting will be over and we will have to answer the question - will we be found faithful?
Though we know we are still waiting for Jesus' return, we know that our waiting isn't passive. We are to be busy. Not only in spiritual pursuits - but we are also to be busy doing actual work. The idea of work and vocation are as old as creation itself. Though damaged by the fall, through the Gospel, even the idea of work is redeemed.
In his closing comments to the church at Thessalonica, Paul makes a simple request of the church - Pray for me. It is a simple command, but it is one that we often struggle with in our daily walk.
After giving the church encouragement about last things, Paul's conclusion is for the church to stay the course that God has set for them. They're not left on their own to figure it out, however - God is faithful from beginning to end!
In his last words to the Thessalonians regarding the last days, Paul warns about a strong delusion that will take hold in the society. It is very difficult to look at our generation and not see a similarly strong delusion at work. May it cause us to eagerly work for the souls of our neighbors as we await the return of Christ.
The world is full of evil and the spirit of the antichrist is busy, but in spite of all that, we understand that God has restrained evil. There is coming a day when the restraint is lifted. It will be a terrifying time - but it is all part of God's ultimate plan to bring this fallen world to a fitting end.
The Bible says that the Created Order bears witness to God's glory. At the same time, we can't help but recognize that the lawlessness and rebellion of our world points to the truth that the clock is ticking on God's ultimate plan of redemption. Paul helps us understand that today in 2 Thessalonians 2:1-5.
1 & 2 Thessalonians are some of the Apostle Paul's most comprehensive words on last things. In 2 Thessalonians 1, Paul warns the church about the consequences of rejecting the Gospel.
Paul begins his second letter to Thessalonica with a powerful reminder that God is already answering his prayer from the end of the first letter. God is indeed sanctifying his church - but it doesn't come easy.
Paul concludes his first letter to the Thessalonians with a word of encouragement about God's faithfulness. It is a powerful reminder of God's promise to complete his work in each of us.
As Paul begins to bring I Thessalonians to a close, he instructs us to not quench the Spirit. Are we able to quench the Spirit of God, and if so, how? Today, we look at who the Spirit is, how we quench the Spirit, and the impact it has on our lives.
Simple instructions that are easy enough for a kindergarten classroom. Yet they are instructions that continue to confound us as adults. This week, we look at simple words to help maintain peace within the body of Christ.
In two brief verses, Paul encourages the church and her leaders about how they should serve and respect one another. We recognize a close tie between how fathers should shepherd their homes and how Christian leaders should shepherd the church.
As we conclude Paul's explanation to the Thessalonians about Last Things, we recognize that we ought to stay ready. But what does that look like? Thankfully, Paul gives us some really simple instructions for how we should live in the light of Jesus' return.
The Day of the Lord is a theme throughout the Bible. Paul continues that theme in his discussion of last things with the Thessalonians. The warnings are throughout Scripture...will we heed the warnings?
This sermon will look specifically at the idea of the Rapture as it is presented by Paul. Instead of trying to fit this text into some prescribed eschatology, we'll just take a look at the text and let the words speak for themselves. Ultimately, we recognize that God will work out the timing of these events. What matters more than the timing is whether or not our names are written on the roll of eternal life.
One of the topics we have the most questions about is death and dying. The Biblical Worldview doesn't leave us alone to figure it out. In fact, Paul goes to great lengths to set our minds at ease about these questions.
Brotherly love may not be what you're thinking when you see Paul's list of how you can show love for one another. One of the greatest things we can do is make sure we're taking care of ourselves so the church can focus on those who truly need it.
The culture of Thessalonica was not altogether different from our culture - especially regarding sex and sexuality. While there was nothing Paul could do about the pattern of the world, he did have the right to speak to the people of God about holiness regarding these matters.
Inflation is trouble for all of us today. But what if there is a kind of inflation that is good for us. Today, we'll consider Paul's words to the Thessalonians about the right kind of inflation.
God has wired us for community. It's not just a nice addition to our lives - it's absolutely necessary. Today, we continue to work through 1 Thessalonians to understand how God uses the communion of the Saints to help fill in the gaps we experience in this life.
The Christian life is guaranteed to not be easy. Jesus' yoke is easy, but it is still a yoke. Today, we consider the cost of what it means to be a disciple of Jesus.
Paul delights in the opportunity to see his church. This text is a bold reminder how how precious the body of Christ is and how we should all be working toward boasting to the Lord about our church.
The sins of the Jews are brought to light here. It is a reminder that sin has it's limits. There are two distinct warnings here. First, we must beware of our tendency to misuse the bible to inform our own biases. But secondly, we need to be ever mindful that sin has its limits.

Walking is the term that the bible uses to describe the day-to-day attitudes and behaviors of the Christian. We all have a walk. Our goal is to walk in a way that points others to Jesus.
Paul emphasizes his goal in ministry is not to make people happy, but to make sure that God is pleased. Everything we do, we do unto the Lord. What motives do we have for the behaviors and attitudes we manifest?
The church at Thessalonica is commended for its willingness to turn from the rampant idolatry of its community. We no longer have carved images that call for our religious devotion, but that doesn't mean there aren't plenty of idols crying out for our attention. This week, Pastor Brian unpacks our tendency toward idolatry and calls for steadfast devotion to Christ.
This week, we consider the doctrine of imitation as it pertains to our reputation. We're either drawing people toward Christ or pushing them away. How can we shape our impact on other people?

In Joshua 22 we find the Israelites nearly going to war with each other over a lack of communication and a nearly very messy misunderstanding. Many of the mistakes made in this passage are common pitfalls for us even today.
It is easy for us to celebrate Christmas and miss Christ. Join us on this Christmas Day as we look back to the first Christmas story to be challenged to keep Christ close this Christmas.
Having accomplished most of the military objectives in conquering the Promised Land, the tribes begin the process of settling into their new home. In doing so, Joshua challenges the nation in their obedience to God and reminds them of their hope for the future. As we begin to look forward to 2023, we can find these same challenges and encouragements fitting for us today.
A lengthy portion of Joshua deals with details regarding borders between tribes and cities...but it is summarized at the end of chapter 21 with a clear reminder of God's promises. God always keeps his word. We are reminded of that here in Joshua 21 - but also as we celebrate Advent.

Some days stand out more than others. They are marked by significant events or accomplishments. Joshua 10 recounts one of the most extraordinary days that has ever happened as God put his power on display to reveal his commitment to his Word and his purposes.
Joshua and the Israelites are deceived by a cunning group of Canaanites seeking to avoid God's judgment. This deception would have long-term consequences for the nation. Israel dealt with the sin of Achan and gets back on track with God's plan. It serves as a powerful reminder of how God's people should handle sin in the church while serving as witness against the sins of the nation.
Achan gives us a prime example of the damage a sinful person can do to the people of God. Today, we contrast Achan's selfishness against Joshua's selflessness.
The Battle of Jericho is a stunning reminder of God's power. But more than that, we see a beautiful picture of God's patience and grace. Rahab's story continues this week as she survives the battle and is brought into the Family of God.
The story of Rahab’s deliverance and adoption into the nation of Israel is a stunning story of grace that is closer to our story than any of us might be willing to admit.
Prepared for a battle, Joshua and the Israelites receive a very specific and
unorthodox battle strategy. While the command from the Lord seems strange and illogical, their faith trumps their logic and they follow His commands to victory. Are we willing to trust and obey the Lord’s commands as the Israelites did?
Joshua's encounter with the Commander of the Lord's Army reminds us of the reality of spiritual warfare that is taking place around us.
The Israelites are no longer provided with manna...instead, they begin to enjoy the fruit of God's promises.
The Israelites who were born in the wilderness are reminded about their true identity as the people of God. Do we remember our identity in Christ?
Joshua is commanded to build a monument to remind the nation about God's faithfulness. What role do spiritual milestones have in our lives? Are we doing a good job communicating them to the next generation?
Our lives are filled with obstacles and trials to overcome. God's plan for these challenges may differ for each of us, for each trial. What does faith look like when it is exercised in the midst of these challenges?
A new generation of Israelites reaches the Promised Land and send their own spies. This time, the outcome is vastly dierent. In the process, Israel makes an unlikely friend who has much to teach us about faith.
As Israel continues to prepare to enter the Promised Land, they have to deal with an early challenge to their unity as a nation. Unlike the last time, they found themselves on the brink of the Promised Land. they are firmly committed to God's plan, his promises, and their unity as a people.
Where do Christians find Strength and Courage to face a hostile world? It doesn’t come from our own abilities...but from dependence on God and his Word. Thankfully, God has given us everything we need to know in the Bible. This week, we consider the significance of the Word of God in Joshua’s commissioning.

Acts 27 details Paul's perilous journey to Rome. Needless to say, it doesn't go as planned. However, Paul's confidence in the Lord is not shaken but provides encouragement for others.
The Apostle Paul's last chance for freedom before going to Rome was squandered. Not because of unjust rulers, but because of his firm commitment to the Gospel. The powers-that-be couldn't understand his allegiance to Jesus...and truth be told, he couldn't understand why they would continue to reject the Gospel.
Paul’s trial in Jerusalem continues in Acts 25. His perseverance during the trial continues to be an example for us.
Paul finds himself under house arrest for 2 years while at the mercy of the Governor Felix. In spite of his unfortunate circumstances, he never gave up on his calling. His example reminds us of how important it is for us to make the most of whatever circumstances we find ourselves in.
Paul's trials in Jerusalem get underway with all the drama of a modern courtroom drama. However, through these events, Paul gives us insight into how we should live and conduct ourselves whenever we face trials of many kinds.
When Paul arrives in Jerusalem, he isn't met as a hero. Instead, he is met as someone with a tarnished reputation that he didn't really deserve. Join us this week as we consider the cost of gossip, bias, and maintaining church unity as part of the commands of Jesus.
Following God's will can be hard - especially when the people you love aren't on the same page. This week, we take a look at Paul's journey to Jerusalem. In spite of the repeated warnings of suffering and persecution, he courageously followed the Lord.
Paul's farewell speech to his friends and colaborers in Ephesus is one of the greatest goodbyes in the Bible. This week, Pastor Brian considers Paul's words and looks to apply them to our lives today.

God has a plan - but most of the time his plan isn't revealed to us in full. It requires daily obedience during seasons of frustration and times of encouragement. We need to learn to trust and obey each and every day and trust God with the results.
Conflict in the church is always difficult. It is especially tough when it goes unresolved. What are some ways that we can avoid and overcome these conflicts?
The first church council in Jerusalem provides guidance to the church on how to bring together various elements within the church. The principles still apply today. This week, we consider how those principles are put to work in our day and time.
After a Christmas break, we come back for the second half of our journey through Acts. This week, our missionary heroes encounter quite a bit of opposition to the Gospel message. In the Great Commission, Jesus told his disciples that he had been given all authority. He then sent out his church on a global mission to make disciples of all people. The focal point of the Church has shifted. Jerusalem is still the birthplace of the church, but another large city has become the launchpad for the Great Commission work extending to the ends of the earth. Antioch became the home of the Christians.
Peter's journey away from Jerusalem was preparing his heart for the next dramatic move of the Gospel. As he encounters the centurion known as Cornelius, we are encouraged to look in the mirror to see how we respond to those who are different from us.
The focus of Acts' camera changes from Saul to Peter. However, we encounter a Peter who is about to have his view of the world transformed by the power of a Savior who loves the whole world, not just an isolated nation.

But it is God’s prerogative to use those difficulties for his glory and for the growth of his Kingdom.
In Acts 9, we see one of the greatest transformations in the Bible: The feared hunter of Christians, Saul, met the One True Lord and he would never be the same.

The last of the 10 commandments is a prohibition against coveting. This may be one of the hardest commandments to keep. Today, we learn about the problems of coveting and how the Lord helps us overcome!
The 9th Commandment tells us to not bear false witness. Today, the opportunity to use our words for evil purposes abound. Let us guard our words - both spoken with our lips and typed with our fingers.
