Modern society is increasingly driven by emotional reactions rather than disciplined critical thought, a trend fueled by anti-intellectualism, social media, tribal identity, and the brain's natural preference for quick emotional judgments over slower analytical reasoning. Neurologically, the limbic system reacts long before the prefrontal cortex has fully evaluated evidence, making us vulnerable to confirmation bias, misinformation, and manipulation unless we intentionally cultivate reflective thinking. This shift has profound consequences for families, education, healthcare, business, politics, and public discourse, where feelings often outweigh facts and certainty replaces genuine inquiry. Rebuilding a healthy society requires strengthening intellectual humility, teaching people how to think rather than what to think, encouraging long-form reading and meaningful dialogue, verifying evidence before forming conclusions, and recognizing that wisdom comes from integrating reason with compassion. Emotion is an essential part of being human, but when it becomes our primary guide instead of a servant to truth, both individuals and civilizations lose their capacity for sound judgment, resilience, and lasting progress.

Healing does not begin in an injured joint, an aching muscle, or even an immune cell—it begins in the brain. The brain is the master control center that continuously interprets information from every part of the body and decides how to allocate energy, regulate inflammation, coordinate the immune system, repair damaged tissues, and adapt to changing environments. Every movement, breath, thought, emotion, and social interaction provides sensory input that shapes how the brain organizes healing. When the brain accurately processes this information and perceives safety, it creates the optimal conditions for recovery. When it is overwhelmed by chronic stress, poor sleep, inactivity, fear, or inaccurate sensory input, healing often slows because the brain prioritizes survival over repair.
Understanding that the brain controls healing changes how we approach health, performance, and everyday life. Recovery is not simply about treating symptoms—it is about improving the brain's ability to organize the body's response to injury, illness, and stress. Daily movement, quality sleep, controlled breathing, meaningful relationships, lifelong learning, and a strong sense of purpose all strengthen the nervous system's capacity to adapt and recover. Whether recovering from surgery, managing chronic pain, improving athletic performance, or simply striving for better health, investing in brain function is one of the most powerful ways to enhance the body's natural healing potential. The healthier and more adaptable the brain becomes, the greater the body's ability to heal, perform, and thrive.
Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting/life coach/ gym-chalk covered philosopher talks about why, when it comes to healing, our brains should be the highest priority!

Optimism is not wishful thinking but a practical strategy that allows individuals, families, organizations, and societies to create a better future. Neurologically, optimism activates brain systems involved in motivation, planning, learning, and goal-directed behavior, while chronic pessimism and hopelessness reduce initiative and reinforce withdrawal. From a life coaching perspective, people thrive when they believe their actions matter and that improvement is possible; this belief drives effort, resilience, and personal growth. Sociologically, optimistic cultures build institutions, solve problems, raise families, innovate, and recover from adversity, while hopeless cultures stagnate and decline. The good news is that optimism can be developed through small wins, improved physical health, purposeful action, healthy relationships, and learning to view setbacks as temporary and solvable rather than permanent and overwhelming. Ultimately, optimism is the conviction that tomorrow can be better than today and that our choices, habits, and efforts play a meaningful role in making that future a reality.
Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting/life coach/ gym-chalk covered philosopher talks about training your brain for Growth
Human beings naturally focus more on negative events than positive ones because the brain is biologically wired for survival through threat detection, with systems like the amygdala and stress-response networks prioritizing danger, fear, and uncertainty over peace and stability. Modern media and social media exploit this “negativity bias” through doom-scrolling, outrage culture, and constant exposure to crises such as Ebola fears, hantavirus outbreaks, wars, scandals, and societal collapse narratives, creating chronic stress, pessimism, and emotional exhaustion. Over time, this conditions the nervous system to expect danger everywhere, causing people to see the worst in society, others, and themselves while ignoring beauty, progress, meaning, and goodness that also exist around them. Neurologically and sociologically, repeated exposure to fear reshapes attention, perception, and even physical health through chronic cortisol elevation and hypervigilance. The solution is not naïve positivity, but intentional retraining of attention through disciplined media consumption, nervous system regulation, purposeful living, gratitude practices, physical movement, proper breathing, meaningful relationships, and focusing on balanced reality rather than constant catastrophe, allowing individuals to reclaim emotional resilience, mental clarity, and hope.
Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting/life coach/ gym-chalk covered philosopher talks about training your brain to hope.
GLP-1 peptides may produce rapid early weight loss by suppressing appetite and slowing digestion, but the body eventually activates ancient survival mechanisms known as metabolic adaptation, where the nervous system lowers energy expenditure and resists further weight loss because it interprets rapid fat loss as starvation. Over time, this may lead to plateaus, slowed metabolism, muscle loss, altered gut health, constipation, nausea, microbiome disruption, hormonal imbalance, fatigue, emotional flattening, and psychological rebound effects after discontinuation, including intense hunger and rapid regain of weight. From a chiropractic neurology and life-coaching perspective, true long-term health cannot come solely from appetite suppression because obesity is often tied to stress physiology, poor breathing mechanics, emotional coping patterns, autonomic imbalance, inactivity, sleep dysfunction, and lifestyle habits that medications alone do not correct; therefore sustainable transformation requires retraining the nervous system, improving movement and breathing efficiency, preserving muscle mass, restoring metabolic flexibility, and addressing the emotional and behavioral roots driving unhealthy physiology.
Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting/life coach/ gym-chalk covered philosopher talks a popular peptide.
Life’s “Goliaths” are often not obstacles to our purpose but the very training ground that prepares us for it, both spiritually and neurologically. As a chiropractic neurologist and life coach, I see how the brain and nervous system are designed to adapt through challenge, building resilience, emotional regulation, focus, discipline, and courage through repeated exposure to manageable stress and recovery. Chronic fear, poor breathing, inactivity, inflammation, overstimulation, and unresolved stress can trap the nervous system in survival mode, weakening both body and mind, while intentional habits such as diaphragmatic breathing, walking, proper sleep, movement, prayer, gratitude, and disciplined daily action strengthen healthy neural pathways and improve adaptability. David defeated Goliath not because he suddenly became strong on the battlefield, but because years of hidden preparation had already shaped his mind, body, and spirit. In the same way, our struggles may be developing the exact capacities needed for our future purpose, teaching us that growth, leadership, and transformation are often forged through resistance rather than comfort.
Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting/life coach/ gym-chalk covered philosopher talks the major factor in transformation!
Many patients claim they have “tried everything,” yet in reality they often abandoned potentially helpful therapies after hearing one negative comment from a friend, doctor, media source, or authority figure, even when their own experience showed signs of improvement. From a neurology, biochemistry, chiropractic, and life coaching perspective, healthcare decisions are deeply influenced by fear, social conditioning, emotional bias, and the brain’s instinct to seek safety and tribal approval rather than objective analysis. The nervous system is highly responsive to social pressure, and one emotionally charged negative story can outweigh numerous positive outcomes, causing people to prematurely reject alternative or integrative approaches such as chiropractic care, nutrition, functional neurology, rehabilitation, or lifestyle interventions. True healing is often individualized, gradual, and multifactorial, requiring consistency, behavioral change, nervous system regulation, and critical thinking rather than instant symptom suppression. While discernment and evidence remain essential, dismissing entire healthcare disciplines because of inaccurate criticism, outdated assumptions, or peer pressure can leave many people trapped in cycles of unresolved suffering rather than pursuing balanced, thoughtful, and personalized paths toward recovery.

Memory is not an exact recording but a dynamic reconstruction shaped by your dominant sensory preferences—what you see, hear, and feel—along with your brain’s neurological processing and biochemical state; structures like the hippocampus and amygdala encode incomplete fragments of experience, which are then repeatedly rewritten through reconsolidation, often becoming amplified, minimized, or emotionally distorted over time by chemicals like dopamine and cortisol. From a chiropractic neurological perspective, your body—through posture, breathing, and movement—also influences how memories are accessed and interpreted, meaning your past is filtered through your current nervous system state. As a result, personal memories can drift from reality, becoming “bigger, better, or worse” than the original event, which impacts decisions, relationships, and self-identity—making it essential to question certainty, regulate the body, and consciously reinterpret experiences with greater awareness.

Cholesterol is not a harmful invader but a vital, biologically essential molecule that supports cell structure, brain function, hormone production, and tissue repair; the real issue arises when chronic inflammation, oxidative stress, poor metabolic health, and dysregulated nervous system activity create an environment where cholesterol becomes involved in pathological processes like atherosclerosis. Rather than targeting cholesterol in isolation, a more accurate and effective clinical approach is to address the underlying drivers—systemic inflammation, impaired movement and breathing patterns, autonomic imbalance, stress physiology, and lifestyle behaviors—because cholesterol is often a responsive marker of the body’s attempt to heal and adapt; restore the system, and cholesterol returns to its proper role as a cornerstone of health rather than a symbol of disease.
Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting/life coach/ gym-chalk covered philosopher talks about one of the most important things in your life - Cholesterol.
Your “comfort zone” isn’t comfort—it’s a neurologically efficient pattern your brain has learned to repeat. Through neuroplasticity and energy conservation, the central nervous system prioritizes familiarity over growth, wiring avoidance, fear, and limitation into default behaviors. Over time, this creates an invisible cage where both brain and body minimize change—seen in restricted movement, shallow breathing, and reduced adaptability. True freedom comes not from willpower alone, but from deliberately introducing controlled novelty, improving breathing and movement, and strategically leaning into discomfort. When you do that, you retrain the brain to see challenge not as threat, but as opportunity—transforming the “prison cell” back into a platform for growth.
Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting/life coach/ gym-chalk covered philosopher talks about comfort zones.
This podcast explores the powerful truth that not everyone will like you—and why that’s not a flaw, but a sign of authentic living. Dr. Fred Clary breaks it down through the lenses of neurology, chiropractic care, and life coaching, explaining how the brain interprets rejection as pain, how the body physically contracts under the pressure of approval-seeking, and how true purpose requires clarity over popularity. By understanding and rewiring these responses, listeners are encouraged to stand confidently in their identity, shift from survival-based thinking to intentional living, and embrace the freedom that comes from being aligned rather than universally accepted.
Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting/life coach/ gym-chalk covered philosopher talks about being disliked.
Modern neuroscience confirms something our bodies already know: the brain was designed to move. Physical activity stimulates brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), improves neuroplasticity, protects the hippocampus, and reduces the risk of cognitive decline. As a neurologist and chiropractor, I see the consequences of inactivity every day—degeneration of joints, loss of balance, neurological slowing, and early dependence on others for basic life functions. The truth is simple: movement is medicine for both the brain and the body.
That is why I say, “I’d rather be the oldest person in the gym than the youngest person in the nursing home.” Exercise is not about vanity or appearance—it is about independence. Strength preserves dignity, balance prevents falls, and physical challenge keeps the nervous system alive and adaptable. The gym is not a punishment; it is a commitment to your future self. Train today so that decades from now you can still walk, move, think clearly, and live life on your own terms.
Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting/life coach/ gym-chalk covered philosopher talks about aging well.
Unconscious bias often arises not from malice but from the normal functioning of the human brain. The brain is designed to conserve energy and process information quickly, so it relies on shortcuts such as pattern recognition, familiarity, and past experience. Structures like the hippocampus help the brain complete patterns from limited experiences, the amygdala rapidly evaluates familiarity and potential threat, and the reward system reinforces beliefs that feel correct. As a result, people may develop biases from small datasets of experience, limited exposure to different perspectives, incomplete information, or simple cognitive efficiency, leading them to assume that what they have seen represents the whole of reality.
Because humans evolved in small cooperative groups, the brain also developed tribal and social identity circuits that instinctively distinguish between in-groups and out-groups. These automatic responses occur before conscious reasoning, but they can be moderated by the prefrontal cortex, which supports reflection, curiosity, and analytical thinking. Fortunately, the brain’s neuroplasticity allows these biases to be reduced through deliberate effort: slowing down judgments, seeking broader experiences, questioning assumptions, examining evidence carefully, and cultivating intellectual humility. By expanding our mental datasets and engaging thoughtful reflection, individuals can move beyond automatic assumptions and develop more accurate and compassionate perceptions of others.

Art and beauty exert a measurable influence on the human body and soul: exposure to harmonious form, color, proportion, and music has been shown to lower cortisol, reduce blood pressure, regulate breathing, and stimulate dopamine and oxytocin—chemicals associated with pleasure, bonding, and well-being—while simultaneously activating memory centers in the brain that connect us to personal and collective history. Beauty draws the nervous system out of chronic stress and into contemplative presence; it anchors us in the “now” while evoking echoes of the past through shared symbols, sacred architecture, ancestral music, and enduring masterpieces that generations have contemplated before us. In this way, art becomes both physiological medicine and cultural bridge: it calms the body, orders the emotions, elevates the mind, and binds us to those who lived centuries ago, reminding us that we stand within a living continuum of meaning, memory, and human dignity.

Real, lasting change does not happen instantly — it happens daily. From a neurological standpoint, your brain thrives on small, repeatable actions that restore agency and regulate stress, not overwhelming attempts at massive transformation. Structurally, the body adapts through consistent input, just as posture, breathing, and alignment improve through repetition rather than urgency. As a chiropractor, neurologist, and life coach, I emphasize focusing on what you can control each day — your breathing, movement, discipline, and responses — because daily alignment builds nervous system stability, confidence, and long-term resilience. Win the day through small intentional actions, and over time, those actions reshape your brain, your body, and your life.
Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting/life coach/ gym-chalk covered philosopher talks about Mastering Your Response to Disrespect!
This episode explores how staying calm when disrespected is not a matter of willpower or personality, but of nervous-system regulation. Drawing from chiropractic, neurological, and life-coaching perspectives, it explains why disrespect triggers fight-or-flight responses in the body before the mind can think clearly. The episode teaches listeners to regulate the body first—through breathing, posture, and grounding—so the brain can regain clarity and self-control. Calm is reframed as a physiological state that can be trained, not an emotional suppression or passive response.
The second half addresses what to do when calm is not respected. It explains why some people escalate when they encounter calm and how this reveals their inability to self-regulate. Listeners are guided to shift from emotional regulation to containment, using clear boundaries, reduced engagement, silence paired with action, and, when necessary, physical or relational distance. The episode concludes by emphasizing that calm combined with firm boundaries reshapes both personal identity and relationships, teaching the nervous system that safety does not require approval—and that self-control is the deepest form of strength.

Trauma Bonding at a Societal Level
Trauma bonding at a societal level occurs when entire communities become emotionally attached to ongoing stress, chaos, and threat through repeated cycles of fear and temporary relief. Constant exposure to crisis-driven narratives keeps the nervous system in a heightened state of activation, where cortisol remains elevated and the brain’s threat centers dominate decision-making. In this state, people often bond not to peace or truth, but to the very sources of stress that intermittently offer reassurance, identity, or meaning. Over time, this creates emotional dependence on narratives, movements, or media ecosystems that feel familiar and validating—even when they are harmful.
Neurologically and physiologically, societal trauma bonding erodes clarity and resilience. The prefrontal cortex becomes less effective, nuance disappears, and group identity replaces independent discernment. Communities begin to mirror trauma responses seen in individuals: rigidity, hypervigilance, emotional reactivity, and fear of separation from the group. Healing begins when individuals restore nervous system regulation, reconnect to local reality, and reclaim rhythm, coherence, and embodied presence. Calm, grounded truth—rather than outrage—becomes the antidote that slowly dissolves trauma bonds and allows cultures to recover stability and compassion.
Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting/life coach/ gym-chalk covered philosopher talks about Community Gaslighting!
Community & Cultural Gaslighting: Protecting the Nervous System in an Age of Chaos
When communities are flooded with conflicting narratives—each emotionally charged and claiming exclusive truth—the nervous system enters a state of chronic stress. This phenomenon, known as cultural gaslighting, destabilizes our sense of reality by overwhelming the brain’s threat-detection systems while suppressing the prefrontal cortex responsible for discernment and reason. The result is widespread anxiety, polarization, and emotional exhaustion—not because people are weak or uninformed, but because prolonged exposure to contradiction and fear dysregulates the brain, vagus nerve, and stress response. What feels like confusion is often a physiological signal that coherence and safety have been disrupted.
Protecting the mind and heart in such an environment begins with regulation before reaction. A calm nervous system restores clarity, allowing facts to be separated from emotional manipulation and complexity to replace binary thinking. Grounding in local reality, slowing the breath, limiting exposure, and refusing outrage-driven narratives help preserve both compassion and strength. True resilience is not numbness or anger, but the ability to remain embodied, thoughtful, and humane—anchored in truth without surrendering to chaos.
Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting/life coach/ gym-chalk covered philosopher talks about Community Gaslighting!
Just as an athlete would never step into competition without warming up, we routinely step into life’s most demanding moments unprepared—relationships, work, school, and daily responsibilities—expecting clarity, patience, and high performance from a nervous system that is still “cold.” A true warm-up is not just physical; it is neurologic, physiologic, biologic, psychological, and spiritual. When we skip this preparation, the brain defaults to reactivity rather than regulation, allowing stress responses to dominate instead of thoughtful, intentional action.
Warming up for life means consciously preparing the body and mind before engagement: regulating breath, posture, and awareness so the nervous system shifts from survival mode to performance mode. It means entering conversations and tasks with intention rather than impulse, and alignment rather than urgency. When we learn to warm up—just as athletes do—we protect our health, improve our relationships, and show up as the person we are meant to be, not merely reacting, but choosing how we live and respond.
Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting/life coach/ gym-chalk covered philosopher talks about Warming up for LIFE!
Ancestral Echoes: The Transmission of Collective Trauma explores how trauma is not only a personal experience but a biological, neurological, and emotional legacy that can be passed through families and communities. Drawing on neuroscience and epigenetics, the episode explains how unprocessed trauma alters stress responses, emotional regulation, and nervous system patterns—often appearing generations later as anxiety, hypervigilance, emotional numbness, or unexplained fear. It also addresses modern forms of secondary trauma, showing how repeated exposure to violent or fear-based media can activate the brain’s threat systems, especially in children, and contribute to collective distress even without direct personal harm.
The episode emphasizes that while trauma can be inherited, healing can be inherited as well. By practicing nervous system regulation, limiting harmful media exposure, restoring healthy rhythms of life, and modeling emotional stability, individuals can protect themselves and their children from carrying forward unnecessary psychological burdens. The central message is one of responsibility and hope: each person has the power to interrupt cycles of inherited trauma and replace them with legacies of resilience, peace, and grounded strength that benefit future generations.
Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting/life coach/ gym-chalk covered philosopher talks about The Transmission of Collective Trauma.
Escaping a victim mentality does not mean denying hardship, injustice, or personal pain. From both a life-coaching and neurological perspective, victim mentality is often a survival strategy—one the brain adopts after repeated stress, trauma, or failure in order to conserve energy and avoid further harm. Over time, however, this protective mindset can turn into paralysis, shrinking motivation, narrowing future vision, and reinforcing beliefs that effort is pointless. The brain’s threat systems become overactive, stress hormones keep the mind in short-term survival mode, and learned helplessness replaces agency. This is not weakness or moral failure; it is a nervous system stuck in protection mode.
Freedom begins when responsibility is reclaimed without self-blame. Something can be not your fault and still be your responsibility to heal and move forward. Escaping the victim mindset means regulating the body, rebuilding proof of agency through small daily actions, and shifting focus from “why me?” to “what now?” It requires controlling mental inputs, upgrading inner language, and turning pain into training rather than identity. The goal is not pretending life is fair, but refusing to let unfairness write the story of your future. Through consistent, manageable actions, the brain relearns that effort matters—and forward movement becomes possible again.
Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting/life coach/ gym-chalk covered philosopher talks about Escaping the Victim Mentality: Responsibility Without Denial.
This podcast reframes bad habits and character flaws as “unwanted house guests” living rent-free in the brain. Drawing from life coaching and neuroscience, it explains that habits are not moral failures but learned neural pathways formed through repetition, stress, and survival patterns. Because the brain is plastic, not fixed, these habits can be changed—not by force or shame, but through calm, strategic eviction. Understanding how the brain seeks efficiency, comfort, and familiarity allows listeners to stop fighting themselves and start working with how change actually happens.
The episode walks listeners through the most common unwanted “guests” such as procrastination, negative self-talk, perfectionism, overthinking, people-pleasing, and self-sabotage, offering simple, practical steps to replace each one. The core principle is clear: habits are never simply removed, they are replaced. By making small, consistent changes and installing healthier behaviors in their place, listeners learn how to reclaim mental space, restore personal agency, and create lasting transformation—one room of the house at a time.
Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting/life coach/ gym-chalk covered philosopher talks about how to EVICT BAD HABITS from your brain.
On January 1st, the brain enters a uniquely hopeful neurological state driven primarily by dopamine—the neurotransmitter of anticipation, not pleasure. Novelty, symbolic separation from past failures, and the absence of immediate effort create a powerful reward-prediction signal. Planning and imagining change activate the same neural circuits involved in pursuit, making optimism feel vivid and convincing. This “fresh start” effect temporarily quiets self-criticism and gives the illusion of a new identity, even though the brain’s existing habit circuits remain fully intact beneath the surface.
As novelty fades and effort begins, dopamine naturally drops and the brain shifts into energy-conservation mode. Long-standing habits stored in the basal ganglia reassert themselves, while sustained willpower strains the metabolically expensive prefrontal cortex. Motivation doesn’t disappear because of weakness—it disappears because the brain prioritizes efficiency and safety. Lasting change occurs only when goals are small enough to avoid threat responses and are repeated consistently. True hope, neurologically speaking, is not sustained by excitement but by quiet evidence—small, repeatable actions that slowly rewire the brain over time.

This episode explains why a war thousands of miles away still affects our bodies, minds, and daily functioning. From a chiropractic perspective, the nervous system does not recognize geography—only threat and instability—so ongoing exposure to global conflict increases stress hormones, muscle tension, shallow breathing, poor posture, fatigue, and sleep disturbances. Attempts at indifference often lead not to calm, but to emotional numbing, which can manifest as chronic pain, low energy, and loss of motivation. The episode highlights how freedom, safety, and stability are deeply connected to nervous system regulation and overall health.
From a life-coaching perspective, the real danger is helplessness, not awareness. The episode emphasizes restoring personal agency through posture, movement, breathing, moral clarity, and purposeful action. By choosing grounded awareness rather than fear or avoidance, individuals can remain compassionate without burnout and strong without denial. The central message is that caring does not weaken us—alignment, responsibility, and embodied presence are what keep us resilient in an unstable world.

During the holidays, true balance comes from supporting the whole person—body, mind, and emotions—rather than pushing through stress. From my perspective as a chiropractor and life coach, physical energy is protected by good posture, gentle movement, breathing, and stable nutrition; mental energy is preserved by simplifying schedules, limiting distractions, and practicing presence; and emotional energy is maintained through self-awareness, healthy boundaries, and thoughtful responses instead of reactions. The holidays are not about endurance or perfection, but about alignment—honoring your limits, staying grounded in daily anchors, and allowing peace, not pressure, to guide the season.

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is a form of depression triggered by reduced sunlight during the fall and winter months, disrupting the body’s circadian rhythm, serotonin levels, melatonin production, energy, mood, and sleep. Symptoms include low mood, fatigue, increased sleep and appetite, difficulty concentrating, and a sense of heaviness that lifts as spring returns. Effective treatments include bright light therapy, CBT, medication when needed, consistent routines, exercise, outdoor exposure, and community or spiritual support. Natural and alternative approaches—such as Vitamin D, omega-3s, herbal supports, dawn simulators, red/infrared light, thermal therapy, aromatherapy, improved nutrition, and creative or social engagement—can complement clinical care and help stabilize mood during winter.
Because SAD affects the entire person—mind, body, and nervous system—many benefit from chiropractic care, posture correction, massage, craniosacral therapy, acupuncture, breathwork, and cold/contrast therapy, all of which help regulate tension, improve sleep, enhance breathing, and restore balance to the autonomic nervous system. Integrating physical, emotional, and spiritual practices—such as breath-prayer, embodied posture, Scripture reflection, and daily routines of light—can ground hope and resilience. With the right support, SAD is a highly manageable condition, reminding us that emotional winters are temporary and that the light always returns.

The real historical Thanksgiving of 1621 was not a sentimental harvest festival but a fragile moment of diplomacy between two peoples facing fear, loss, and uncertainty. After a devastating winter that claimed half the Pilgrims’ community, and following an epidemic that had wiped out much of the Wampanoag population, both groups found themselves in desperate need of allies. When the Pilgrims fired celebratory guns during their successful harvest, Massasoit and ninety Wampanoag men arrived prepared for possible conflict, only to discover it was a feast in progress. What followed was a cautious but genuine three-day gathering centered on food, negotiation, and the renewal of a mutual defense treaty that would hold for nearly fifty years. Far from a simple tale of harmony, the first Thanksgiving was a complex meeting shaped by hardship, diplomacy, and the human desire for peace in a dangerous world.
Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting/life coach/ gym-chalk covered philosopher talks about a little history.
Gratitude is far more than a pleasant feeling—it is a measurable biological and neurological tool that improves overall health. Research shows that when we practice gratitude, key brain regions such as the prefrontal cortex and the reward centers become more active, boosting dopamine, serotonin, and emotional regulation. Gratitude also lowers stress hormones like cortisol, improves heart rate variability, activates the calming parasympathetic nervous system, and reduces inflammation. These changes help patients experience better sleep, lower blood pressure, improved mood, and stronger resilience in the face of stress or illness.
Gratitude also strengthens relationships, improves social connection, and promotes a healthier community environment. People who regularly express gratitude report feeling less lonely, more supported, and more satisfied in their relationships at home and at work. Simple daily practices such as keeping a gratitude journal, offering sincere thank-yous, taking gratitude walks, or pausing briefly before meals help reinforce these positive effects. In short, gratitude is a powerful, free, and accessible health practice that enhances emotional balance, physical well-being, and social bonding—making it an ideal focus for wellness during the Thanksgiving season and beyond.

The “Fabulous Four of Life”—Diet, Exercise, Sleep/Recovery, and Happiness—form the cornerstone of a truly balanced and high-performing life. Each of these elements directly influences the others, creating a powerful synergy that drives physical health, mental clarity, and emotional resilience. A nutritious diet not only fuels energy but also acts as biochemical information for the body, influencing gene expression, mood, and longevity. Proper hydration, balanced macronutrients, and colorful plant-based foods enhance focus and emotional stability, setting the stage for optimal performance throughout the day.
Exercise serves as both medicine and meditation for the body and mind. Regular movement strengthens the heart, sharpens cognition, and triggers the release of endorphins, creating a natural buffer against stress and depression. Even small, consistent bouts of physical activity—like brisk walks or resistance training—help maintain muscle tone, improve circulation, and elevate mood. Combined with intentional breathing and mindful stretching, exercise becomes a tool not just for fitness but for balance, grounding, and confidence in everyday life.
Sleep and recovery complete the physical foundation by enabling repair, growth, and emotional regulation. Deep, consistent rest allows the brain to consolidate learning and reset the body’s systems. Paired with happiness practices—such as gratitude journaling, mindfulness, and meaningful relationships—this foundation transforms health into fulfillment. Happiness is not merely a feeling but a state born from purpose, connection, and alignment between values and actions. When all four pillars are practiced together, they cultivate a life filled with energy, clarity, and sustainable success.

The 2025 Tanzanian general election, held on October 29, ignited widespread unrest after President Samia Suluhu Hassan claimed victory with nearly 98 percent of the vote amid accusations of fraud, opposition arrests, and an internet blackout. Protests erupted across major cities, met with heavy military crackdowns that opposition groups say left hundreds dead, though official figures remain disputed. The crisis has shaken public faith in Tanzania’s democracy, raising fears of deepening authoritarianism and regional instability. At its heart, this tragedy underscores the universal struggle for free elections, accountability, and the right of ordinary citizens to have their voices heard without fear.

When Life Feels Out of Control
When everything around you seems chaotic, the first step is to pause and breathe. In moments of turmoil, the mind often magnifies problems, making them appear larger than they are. By slowing down, you give yourself the space to regain perspective. Focus on what is within your control — your thoughts, reactions, and daily actions. Write down the top three things you can realistically manage today, and let go of what is beyond your reach. Control begins with clarity, and clarity begins with calm.
Next, reestablish structure and connection. Create a simple routine, even if it’s just waking up at a set time, exercising briefly, and reflecting in prayer or journaling. Consistency stabilizes emotions. Surround yourself with supportive voices — mentors, friends, or faith-centered communities — who remind you of your purpose and strength. Remember, feeling out of control doesn’t mean you’ve lost your direction; it’s an invitation to refocus your energy on what truly matters and rebuild from within.

Keeping your mind sharp as you age involves nurturing both your body and brain through consistent, healthy habits. Regular physical exercise increases blood flow to the brain, supporting memory and cognitive function. A balanced diet rich in omega-3 fatty acids, leafy greens, berries, and whole grains provides the nutrients necessary for brain health. Doctors fear that as SARS 2 restrictions end, so too will the temporary suppression of illnesses such as RSV, chickenpox, strep throat, flu, and more, potentially causing further epidemics down the line. According to a study conducted in France, an immunity debt is caused by a lack of exposure to regular bacteria and viruses. Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting/life coach/ gym-chalk covered philosopher talks about immunity debt, this immunity debt is a particular concern for RSV, for which temporary immunity is obtained through exposure to the virus and maternal antibodies wane quickly; without seasonal exposure, immunity decreases and susceptibility to future, and potentially more severe, infection increases.

Viruses need a host to survive – like the cells in your body. Once a virus enters your body, it reproduces and spreads. The more a virus circulates in a population of people or stays within one host, the more it can change. All viruses change but not always at the same rate.
What matters is the impact the changes have on the virus itself. So, some viruses might have a few differences – a few mutations – but there are no noticeable changes to the virus. Sometimes viruses can have mutations that give the virus an advantage, whether that’s a better attachment to cells or the ability to replicate faster. Mutations can also result in disadvantages for the virus, lowering the ability to attach to cells or taking longer to reproduce. Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting/life coach/ gym-chalk covered philosopher asks you to consider that we look at real science and not the silliness since 2019. We had plenty of virus basic science in 2018, study it!

Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting/life coach/ gym-chalk covered philosopher asks you to consider your math skills.
A selective pressure is any reason for organisms with certain phenotypes to have either a survival benefit or disadvantage. Selective pressures leads natural selection. Viruses follow the laws of biology like Selective Pressure. Mutations (Variants) lead to changes and survivability of the virus. Too many pressures lead to weakening of the virus. Minimal selective pressures lead to the statistical probability the virus will adapt in a way to allow it to survive (stronger). Thanks guys!
Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting/life coach/ gym-chalk covered philosopher asks you to consider that what you do affects the strength of the virus for your neighbor.
Recently we have banned a Olympic runner for the use of a Performance Reducing Drug. What many of us had learned and memorized as science, biology and mathematics was thrown out very publicly in 2019-2021. Biology was twisted and the uneducated or forgetful elites (that's most MD's and PhD's) allowed this to happen. Of course the "New" revelations that came to light recently show that the unforgetting minority (we did not forget our biology education) were correct. No apologies yet. Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting/life coach/ gym-chalk covered philosopher asks you to consider that you may have been gaslighted into believing the tenets of alchemy (medieval frauds that gave birth to real chemistry).
Living in the present moment means no longer worrying about what happened in the past and not fearing what will happen in the future. It means enjoying what’s happening now and living for today. Choosing to live in the past or the future not only robs you of enjoyment today, but it also robs you of truly living. The only important moment is the present moment. Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting/life coach/ gym-chalk covered philosopher asks you to consider the only reality is this present moment.
It’s human nature to search for belonging. From our first day of kindergarten and well into adulthood, we gravitate toward those who reflect the kind of qualities we are most comfortable with. To say we are looking for “our tribe” means that we are looking for people who share commonalities or possess the traits we aspire to adapt. Whether it’s a family, community, or group of fellow practitioners, Our tribe is important because it reflects our values while simultaneously satisfying our need for companionship. Your tribe can also hold you back from being the best human you can be! Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting/life coach/ gym-chalk covered philosopher asks you to consider that your tribe can motivate you through life Or be a negative anchor.
Roger Revelle gave us the concept of Global Warming. Everyone has forgot his name, his theories, his equations, his science and his metered approach to the world's climate. We know more today than we did in 1957! Why are we still living like it's 1957????Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting/life coach/ gym-chalk covered philosopher asks you to consider Science and Primary sources. What happened to the Sahara Grasslands and Jungle of 6000 years ago? Math and Science can be hard.
It's the 68th week of the Two Week Lockdown to flatten the curve. Academics are shattered. The Social order for youth has been corrupted. Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting/life coach/ gym-chalk covered philosopher asks you to consider some ideas in biology that could change your life. None of these facts are in the media or spoken by our so called leaders. We should be studying the strong and healthy and winners!
The behavioral immune system is a phrase used to refer to a suite of psychological mechanisms that allow individual organisms to detect the potential presence of infectious parasites or pathogens in their immediate environment, and to engage in behaviors that prevent contact with those objects and individuals. The existence of a behavioral immune system has been documented across many animal species, including humans.
Many mammalian viruses have acquired genes from their hosts during their evolution. The rationale for these acquisitions is usually quite clear: the captured genes are subverted to provide a selective advantage to the virus. In the case of Syncytin, we have the opposite situation, where a viral gene has been sequestered to serve an important function in the physiology of a mammalian host.
Health status is talked about on every main stream media broadcast for the last year. Not one broadcast covers factors that you can control AND positively impact your immune system. Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting/life coach/ gym-chalk covered philosopher asks you to consider that the FACTORS YOU CAN CONTROL that positively impact your health, None of these facts are in the media or spoken by our so called leaders. We should be studying the strong and healthy and winners!
We are not alone. The metabolic potential of all animals is augmented by that of a vast diversity of resident microbes. All animals bear many, metabolically diverse microorganisms that are responsible for a significant fraction of the inventory of compounds in animal tissues and secretions . In principle, the metabolic capabilities of microorganisms enable animal hosts to sample chemical diversity of the internal and external environment unavailable from the animal genome, and the resultant chemical repertoire can permit innovation and rapid trait evolution. Better survival. The animal also 'gives off' cellular debris and immune system activity products that can 'teach' other animals of the same species certain 'survival' protocols. Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting/life coach/ gym-chalk covered philosopher asks you to consider that how we live our lives effects everyone else in our household. None of these facts are in the media or spoken by our so called leaders. We should be studying the strong and healthy and winners!
One way influenza viruses change is called “antigenic drift.” These are small changes (or mutations) in the genes of viruses that can lead to changes in the surface proteins of the virus. The surface proteins of influenza viruses are “antigens,” which means they are recognized by the immune system and are capable of triggering an immune response, including production of antibodies that can block infection. The changes associated with antigenic drift happen continually over time as the virus replicates. Antigenic drift is the main reason why people can get a viral infection from a similar virus (like the flu) more than one time.
The other type of change is called “antigenic shift.” Antigenic shift is an abrupt, major change in virus, resulting in new surface proteins in the viruses that infect humans. Shift can result in a new Viral subtype in humans. One way shift can happen is when an influenza virus from an animal population gains the ability to infect humans. When shift happens, most people have little or no immunity against the new virus. Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting/life coach/ gym-chalk covered philosopher asks you to consider that virus are co-adapting with its host (US!) None of these facts are in the media or spoken by our so called leaders. We should be studying the strong and healthy and follow their example.
Symbiosis is the way in which organisms live together for their mutual, and therefore, intrinsic benefit. In just one area, the human being has a symbiotic relationship with the microbiome, which are commensal organisms that live with us. The various flora play roles in the structural integrity of the organism to prevent the entry of noncommensal organisms. They play functional roles in metabolism, immunity, adaptation, and adaptability. They also play structuro-functional roles. For example, in the intestines are receptors for hypothalamic and pituitary hormones that adapt the functioning of the local colonic flora to alter the rate of nutrient and fluid reclamation. This is a key mechanism of adapting nutrient availability to the endobiogenic demands of the organism. Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting/life coach/ gym-chalk covered philosopher asks you to consider that we exist to live with other creatures in our environment! Period! Including bacteria or viruses. None of these facts are in the media or spoken by our so called leaders. We should be studying the strong and healthy and follow their example.
The biggest variable of this 'pandemic' is not the virus. It's the Host!!! Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting/life coach/ gym-chalk covered philosopher asks you to consider that we can change out resistance to infection either positively or negatively. None of these facts are in the media or spoken by our so called leaders. We should be studying the strong and healthy and follow their example. VENTING WARNING.

A virus can be simply defined as an obligate intracellular parasite. Each viral particle, or virion, consists of a single nucleic acid, RNA or DNA, encoding the viral genome surrounded by a protein coat, and is capable of replication only within the living cells of bacteria, animals or plants. Viruses are classified into different orders and families by consideration of the type of nucleic acid present (RNA or DNA), whether the nucleic acid is single- or double-stranded, and the presence or absence of an envelope. We understand so much about viruses now compared to just a few decades ago. Its time for all of us to grow up and learn a little bit about them. Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting/life coach/ gym-chalk covered philosopher introduces a subject that is 'front page news' for the last 15 months yet the average human has not studied the subject at all and may still refuse to.
The future is unclear and ambiguous. We do not know when or if things will ever go back to usual. There is no authoritative timeline. There is no clear concept for solution. We have guesses, hypotheses and hopes, but not much else. Here in the liminal valley, we’re constrained by our limitations—the limitations of our intellect, ingenuity, planning and preparation. We’re daily threatened by the relentless shadow of the unknown hanging overhead, blocking out almost any and all light. In the darkness, it’s easy to lose sight of the sun towering and stable beyond view. But the sun remains, as it forever has and forever will. There's a clear connection between the way your mind thinks and the way your body feels. Just like you can use your body to reduce your psychological stress, you can also use your mind to improve your body.
Simply changing the way you think and taking charge of what occupies your mind most of the time, can improve your physical health and well-being. While positive thinking won't cure everything, a healthy mindset is a key component to a healthy body.
Here are five ways you can use your mind to promote physical health:

Countless studies show the placebo effect influences the effectiveness of treatment. If someone tells you a pill will cure your headache, you're likely to find the treatment helpful--even if the pill was a sugar pill.
2. Sleep Better By Writing in a Gratitude Journal
If you're struggling with insomnia, a gratitude journal might be the best cure. Several studies have linked gratitude to better quality and longer lasting sleep. You need sleep to release GROWTH HORMONE ….you MAIN #1 healing chemical.
3. Live Longer By Focusing On Your Purpose in Life
Whether your work gives you a purpose, or you find meaning as a volunteer, make sure whatever you're doing matters. Feeling like you have a reason to get out of bed every day might be the secret to longevity.
4. Be Optimistic and Boost Your Immunity
Several studies have shown that optimistic people are less likely to get sick. For decades, many researchers thought the boost in immunity stemmed from the fact that optimistic people were more likely to take care of their health.
5. Slow Aging with Meditation and Laughing

Are we living in a Twilight Zone were we don't freak out about 50 thousand REAL deaths so far this year from the flu and two dozen from this virus? Why are we not worried about other infectious diseases that we pass around in public? No answers in this podcast just a rant. Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting and life coach and gym chalk covered philosopher opens a conversation on attending and coaching at the ARNOLD Classic 2020 Sports Festival that was not a Festival.
When one thinks (or goggles) of Shoulder pain or problems, its easy to think of rotator cuff muscles issues or arthritis. With all the misinformation out there on the internet and even in the clinic rehabilitation world, it's easy to be frustrated with a lack of progress in your should dysfunction and pain. Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting and life coach and gym chalk covered philosopher opens a conversation on the SC joint and the role that your sternum and collar bone play in your shoulder's health and your overall gait, postural and spinal health.
WARNING: Specific Powerlifting Rant. Understanding Raw vs. Equipped Powerlifting is all a matter of intellectual honesty. Dr. Clary first competed in a powerlifting meet in 1981. He has participated as a fan, competed as an athlete, directed meets, sponsored meets and judged meets for over 40 years. Recently in the sport there has been 'division' or controversy over lifting 'apparel'. Most of this controversy is partial confabulation due to lack of historical prospective and intellectual and scientific honesty. Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting and life coach and gym chalk covered philosopher opens a conversation on a specific powerlifting controversy of "Raw vs. Equipped" lifting.
Reducing your chance of acquiring a community related illness like a viral or bacterial infection has become 'headlines' in the News. Common sense measures to prevent and reduce transmission of illness sometimes seems too easy to believe. Until you try them. Protect your Family! Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting and life coach and gym chalk covered philosopher opens a conversation on fighting back against microscopic bugs and keeping your family safe and healthy.
Mitochondria, the energy producing and metabolism controlling organelle in all our cells have been found to be free floating in our blood stream as a normal part of human physiology. Throw away what you learned in High School or College. We were wrong again. What is this new function and purpose? Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting and life coach and gym chalk covered philosopher opens a conversation on the latest discovery in science that could change EVERYTHING.
Emergence: The vitalism/reductionism debate in the life sciences shows that the idea of emergence as something principally unexplainable will often be falsified by the development of science. As humans, we all want to be correct. We have an emotional need for others to understand us. This nature can sometimes lead to biases in science, healthcare and in our social relationships. (Of course it's in our politics, but healthcare science , biology, should not be controlled by opinions but facts). Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting and life coach and gym chalk covered philosopher opens a conversation on looking at persistent biases around us and in our own thinking.
Fibromyalgia affects 12 million Americans. Ninety percent female. 'Fibro' can cause debilitating widespread body pain, fatigue, sleep dysregulation, memory issues, skin and digestion issues. Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting and life coach and gym chalk covered philosopher opens a conversation on a condition that was not diagnosed readily in the 90's and now maybe over diagnosed.
Your body is basically an earth suit that can be changed and altered according to your wishes and desires. Understanding that for millions of years our body has developed a system for storing fat and energy though specific ways may help you through your weight loss or weight gain frustrations! Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting and life coach and gym chalk covered philosopher opens a conversation on gaining or losing weight. Try science, cell biology science (since we are made up of trillions of cells) as a way to address your bathroom scale challenges.
Your health care providers clinical choices' may be influenced by the schools they attended, the continuing education attended, the influence of the local culture, their personal proclivities and more importantly how their colleagues practice. Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting and life coach and gym chalk covered philosopher opens a conversation on all health care is local. Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting and life coach and gym chalk covered philosopher opens a conversation on looking objectively at our health care system and that all health care is local!
The United States ranks 37th according to the World Health Organization among its member nations for Heath Care System efficiency (Results & Functionality). The United States spends the most of any member nation. Our 3.5 Trillion spent is not getting the results one with a modicum of common sense would expect. The United States has a culture of fatiguing their physicians and limiting access as a price control. One way to fix the system is to take a step back and look at our use of Rationed Health Care Organizations, Sleep Depriving Doctors, increasing the number of physicians and schools, and spreading uncollected bills to consumers and third parties. Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting and life coach and gym chalk covered philosopher opens a conversation on looking objectively at our health care system. This is the third in a series of conversations on turning our health care system around.

The United States spends the most of any member nation. Our 3.5 Trillion spent is not getting the results one with a modicum of common sense would expect. The countries that are at the top of the Health Care System Success List utilize Midwives and other practitioners differently and at a higher rate. The countries at the top of the list also have a better flow of information between treating physicians, hospitals and patients. The patient's care team is more on the same page. One way to fix the system is to take a step back and look at the providers we use and if we are putting obstacles in the way of the doctors caring for us. Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting and life coach and gym chalk covered philosopher opens a conversation on looking objectively at our health care system. This is the second in a series of conversations on turning our health care system around.

The U.S. spends $800+ per human on administration (paperwork) than the next closest spender , France which spends $240+, the top health care performer spends $70 per human. So ..."whats the problem? "...as my kids would say. Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting and life coach and gym chalk covered philosopher opens a conversation on looking objectively at our health care system. This is a first in a series of conversations on turning our health care system around.
Nemesis Powerlifting Team was founded by James Burdette (National Recorder Holder in several different weight classes) in California to gather likeminded strength enthusiasts to compete at the National and World level. The current leader is Christian Fite who has ably molded the team to match the philosophy of always thinking Big. Big weights, Big Prime Time meets and Big commitment to each other. A Nemesis Powerlifter focuses on pushing themselves and each other while looking for technical mastery in the three powerlifts. Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting and life coach and gym chalk covered philosopher opens a conversation with a close friend and teammate Coach Christian Fite.
Fascia: the connective tissue that binds and winds around us is an under appreciated sensory structure that controls how we move and feel. Many treatment methods are now focusing on these important sheets of elastic tissue. A problem or damage in one area of your fascia (e.g., Shoulder) can have consequences in area far away from the true site of injury (e.g., Hip/Pelvis) and visa versa. With fascia sheets, the area that must be treated (because it is mechanically advantageous to do so) may not be painful at all. Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting and life coach and gym chalk covered philosopher opens a conversation on the importance of fascia, the tissue that binds us together.
Dr. Mike Musselman is a chiropractor, philosopher (he even has the credentials), powerlifter, strength enthusiast, Original Strength Master trainer (OS is a movement system for injury rehab, injury prevention and nervous system improvement) and amazing family man. In this episode, Dr. Mike covers views on health, healing and wellness. In under a year Dr. Mike has lost in excess of 80 pounds so we know he can practice what he 'preaches'. Sit back and take in the wisdom of one of the Midwest's top experts on health and wellness! Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting and life coach and gym chalk covered philosopher opens a conversation with a close friend and colleague Michael Musselman, DC DPhCS.

Vitamin A , C, and E are powerful antioxidants that support the immune system, help in many age related conditions, and can assist your healing and wellness goals. These nutrients have been supplemented by the public for decades and have been proven safe and effective. Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting and life coach and gym chalk covered philosopher opens a conversation on 3 simple nutrients to assist in your healing and wellness plan.
Causal Theory effects our everyday life and every choice we make...every choice. Having a wider open view on what causes outcomes can help one explore better choices or at least come to terms with understanding a muddled outcome. Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting and life coach and gym chalk covered philosopher opens a conversation on causal theory and makes a book recommendation for those that want to explore this area further : "Making Things Happen" by James Woodward.
The new Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) , called " novel " because it's new and evolved from a cobra to jump to humans, is one of many, many COMMON Viruses that have a 'Crown'. This type of virus usually causes mild cold like symptoms, this new hybrid has adapted to survive. To date, it has killed hundreds. The flu kills thousands per year, year in year out ,in the U.S.A. alone. Perhaps we should start are concerns with the most dangerous bugs? By strengthening your immune system in general, you can help destroy some of these viruses. Some simple hygiene measures (like keep your sick kids home) can also help. Take this opportunity to look at your diet (protein) and sleep (8 hours) so you can positively change any outcome of viral infections. Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting and life coach and gym chalk covered philosopher opens a conversation on the Coronavirus scare.
Nutritional and dietary awareness has been on the upswing in our society. Education about the positive effects of nutritional supplements has been more accepted by the public, but whether its accepted or not, a good multi-vitamin and multi-mineral supplement (pill or capsule or gummie) may have a place in your daily routine to fill in the nutritional gaps in your diet. Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting and life coach and gym chalk covered philosopher opens a conversation on adding nutritional supplements to your healing plan.
A shoulder issue can cause a foot problem and visa versa. HOW? We are dynamic creatures and when we walk, move or lift there are many, many joints and areas involved to make the movement efficient. So the weakest link in that movement "chain" could be the most important area to be treated or addressed not necessarily the most painful. Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting and life coach and gym chalk covered philosopher opens a conversation on compensatory injuries and finding the true cause of your chronic issues.
Losing weight seems to be a national past time. There is so much confusion over the different fad diets in the popular media. Four decades of observation of athletes and patients (thousands of individuals) has lead me to understand the basic equation. INPUT ---> PROCESSING ---> OUTPUT. The processing, or how your body (which is completely individual and dynamic) handles foods can change year to year within individuals and can change due to illness, injury, environmental conditions. Your adapting DNA (Epigenetics) can drive one's metabolism in positive or negative directions that are unexpected. You are your own science experiment. Your body's handling of diet (the foods you eat) is variable. What works for one season of life may be detrimental in another season of life. Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting and life coach and gym chalk covered philosopher opens a conversation on weight-loss and diet. MORE TO COME ON THIS SUBJECT!
Skipping breakfast has been shown to increase cardiac mortality and leads to chronic low grade inflammation. In the short term it can increase weight loss but it can destroy your athletic performance and at worst ruin your physical and mental health! The craziest fad I've heard this year! Follow science and not gurus! Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting and life coach and gym chalk covered philosopher opens a conversation on the latest craze of wrecking your body and health!
Should you use ice or heat after a joint sprain or muscle strain? Recently, there has been some change in thought. Controlling the bleed and swelling (or micro-bleed) is the most important thing to consider with an acute (new) injury. Use ice until the swelling is reduced, then you can think about other options. Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting and life coach and gym chalk covered philosopher opens a conversation on self care for new injuries.

Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting and life coach and gym chalk covered philosopher opens a conversation on changing your life in 30 seconds?
Performing warm-ups prior to any physical exertion or activity or sport increases blood flow, joint/ muscle temperature and contributes to an enhanced perceived sense of well being. Static Stretching increases range of motion of the joints and is effective for the maintenance of joint health independent of any activities or exertion. Surprisingly, research and practical experience prove that static stretching (alone) as a warm-up activity may temporarily decrease muscle strength, muscle power, and exercise performance. A combination of dynamic (movement) activity related warm ups and stretching (both static and dynamic) have been shown in research to help one prepare for physical activity. The state of the nervous system is key. The brain must be warmed up, just not the muscles! Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting and life coach and gym chalk covered philosopher opens a conversation on static stretching for warm ups and the fact that the brain comes first!
If you are looking for things to change or improve this Leap Year, you might want to consider (1) the things you read,(2) the things they listen to,(3) what new things are you trying to learn and (4) who you spend time with. Major in Major things. Don't Major in Minors. Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting and life coach and gym chalk covered philosopher opens a conversation on suggestions found on a crumbled up piece of note paper.

THE LAW OF INEVITABILITY- GET WHAT YOU DESERVE
Seven Thoughts to Becoming a Bigger, Better, Winner
a) You are the major key to your better future
b) The pain of your discipline weighs ounces and the pain of your regret weighs tons
c) Don’t wish for things to get easier, wish to be better and stronger
d) It’s not what you accomplish that matters, it’s what you overcome and become
e) Those who are afraid to risk failure will never enjoy success
f) When you argue for your own limitations, then sure enough, they are your own
g) Strong reasons create, strong actions!
Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting and life coach and gym chalk covered philosopher opens a conversation on getting what you deserve or the Law of Inevitability.
Amino Acids make up proteins. Individual Amino Acids have been used safely for decades in helping one reach their health and vitality goals. Find a health care provider that is an expert in amino acid therapy and start experiencing success now. Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting and life coach and gym chalk covered philosopher opens a conversation on using individual amino acids to help you reach your wellness goals.
Many of us have a non-rational, stressful belief that we have to have the approval of others. The problem is that those individuals may not be qualified to give an expert opinion on the subject in question (you and your life!). Our thalamus is a small structure within the brain located just above the brain stem between the cerebral cortex and the midbrain and has extensive nerve connections to both. The main function of the thalamus is to relay motor and sensory signals to the cerebral cortex and Filter, Integrate and Select information for processing unconsciously. This happens before our cerebral cortex further refines the information. Your neurology, your brain biologically may be keeping you or your opinionated loved one from understanding the truth of a situation. By seeking out those that are already experts in a given subject ,(parenting, finances, happiness, athletics, diet, health, wellness , etc. ) we can move away from trying to please everyone and attempting to please ourselves first.
Lack of discipline to a diet, lifting or a relationship may not just be your faulty willpower or ethics/morals, It maybe perfectly functioning DNA that is looking to add more diversity to your gene line. The search for strengthening human evolutionary survival potential may be affecting your decision making abilities. Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting and life coach and gym chalk covered philosopher opens a conversation on how you can understand your decision making process within the laws of biology.
Many people try to "find themselves" by going on sabbatical or pilgrimage or changing jobs, relationships or hobbies. People get frustrated with miscommunication and understanding their own actions or inaction. Understanding how you process, filter and 'see' 'hear' 'feel' the world can allow you to learn faster and interpret the 'Truth' of communication and your environment. Understanding how your personal strategies for interpreting the world affect your wisdom goes a long way to enjoying life. Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting and life coach and gym chalk covered philosopher opens a conversation on some basics on how YOU see the world!
Water, Protein, Sleep. Most people with chronic pain, illness or injury will not do these three things to ensure their body has the required building blocks to fight illness, repair injury and change body and brain chemistry. If I had 5 cents for every hurting and sick patient that would not do these basics, I'd be a millionaire from the change. These three steps are easy and cost little Except for a small lifestyle change. Water, Protein, Sleep. So NO MATTER what you have done (meds, surgery, injections) to treat your current condition, you are have not really started until you follow this simple protocol, yes even if it has been years, many specialists and thousands out of pocket! It makes no difference what you are trying address or heal, eating 100 grams of quality protein a day, drinking 3-4 quarts of water per day and getting 8 hours of sleep a day can start to turn around most health conditions. You only start healing when you are doing ALL 3 of these things consistently. Period. Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting and life coach and gym chalk covered philosopher opens a conversation on some basics that can change your life NOW.
Earthing is a "holistic medicine" therapy where individuals "connect" with Mother Earth's negative surface charge (excess electrons). This is supposed to help you "balance" your internal electrical circuitry and restore a lost electrical charge. Going barefoot and purchasing "grounding" pads and earthing electron catching blankets are part of the cult/ure. This Episode explains the positive effects of efficient thalamic integration (placebo effect) and how the VAK model can apply. Don't throw your shoes away yet, but we do need increased lower extremity proproiception in this modern world, some more than others. Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting and life coach and gym chalk covered philosopher opens a conversation on the pseudoscience of Earthing/Grounding .
Robert V. Rood died in 2013. Bob began lifting in 1969. Coach Rood competed from 1974 until 2012. I can't count the number of National Titles he won, but it was over 30, yes, THIRTY. Bob left a mark on Mid Atlantic Powerlifting that is still felt today. He was always quick with a smile or laugh or a slap to get the frustrated athlete back in shape mentally. His knowledge of lifters in the sport was unapproachable. He knew lifter's 'numbers' like a baseball junkie statistician. One of the last of the tough guys that was always in the gym no matter his personal circumstances or the apparent external problems. His philosophy carries on in many lifters and coaches today. We can all learn something from his life and training methods summarized in this podcast. Thanks Bob.
The biological mechanism of the progress of Coronary artery disease and it's treatment urgently requires a paradigm shift. Despite popular belief among doctors, the media and the public, the conceptual plumbing model of dietary saturated fat clogging a pipe is just plain wrong. A recent milestone systematic review of dozens of medical studies showed: NO association between saturated fat consumption and (1) all-cause mortality (death), (2) coronary heart disease (CHD), (3) CHD mortality, (4) ischemic stroke or (5) type 2 diabetes in healthy adults. This is a gigantic SHIFT in our 'reality'. Similarly in the secondary prevention of CHD there is no benefit from reduced fat, including saturated fat, on myocardial infarction, cardiovascular or all-cause mortality. It is important to note that in an angiographic study of postmenopausal women with CHD, greater intake of saturated fat was associated with less progression of atherosclerosis whereas carbohydrate and polyunsaturated fat intake were associated with greater progression. There are many studies that show that moderately high cholesterol leads to a longer life. So what is the problem here? It is inflammation!!! Inflammation combined with higher cholesterol can be dangerous. Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting and life coach and gym chalk covered philosopher opens a conversation on Cholesterol and Inflammation and your heart health.
Walking in someone else's moccasins hurts your nervous system, wear your own shoes! For the best performance in life, rituals and familiar environments set the brain for higher performance and function. Making sure you walk in your own worn out lucky shoes first leads to better brain processing! Your environment can unconsciously control your performance in your relationships, sports, home and office. Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting and life coach and gym chalk covered philosopher opens a conversation on the use of rituals in your daily activities (hint you are already performing and interacting with rituals that are controlling you...why not control those rituals and the environment so it serves you not the other way around )
For hundreds of years , the theory of what causes Earthquakes was hampered by scientists not researching into the obvious. This was/is because of the human mind's ability to search for continuity not an exception to the many rules and beliefs we own. Some of these rules are truly not ours but placed in our mind by others. Perhaps we need to look in a different direction to get our health back. The "experts" at the time were WRONG about earthquakes. Perhaps there is a different path for your health journey that will achieve better results. Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting and life coach and gym chalk covered philosopher opens a conversation on who is an expert and maybe we need another look in a different direction to find our answers.
Sparked by an contemporaneous news article "Man who had transplant finds out months later his DNA has changed to that of donor 5,000 miles away" and a request by Dr. Tammy of Milwaukee, Dr. Clary explains why genetic material (DNA, RNA) is so powerful and is currently being looked at by the scientific community to address a whole host of diseases and conditions. But like Dr. Victor Frankenstein should we pause to understand what we are dealing with or 'make it up as we go" like so many other failed scientific endeavors. Should we play the long game? Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting and life coach and gym chalk covered philosopher opens a conversation on genetic manipulation.
Your Body is driven by survival not your emotional needs. Survival in the NOW not next week or next month. Immediate resource utilization dynamics rules our biology. Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting and life coach and gym chalk covered philosopher opens a conversation on why our body's are "brilliant at basics".
Neurophysiological Partitioning: since the CNS controls and regulates all physiological process of the human body, these optimizations must occur at the microscopic cellular level in the nervous system first. All these changes can be explained by considering the process of energy efficiency of neural communication and neural processing. Energy (available ATP) is finite. It is reasonable to assume that the limiting factor for this energy efficiency optimization process is the use of available ATP. Thus, to optimize neurological programs, the CNS will shunt and mobilize ATP to the areas of greatest physiological need in the CNS. Synergistic Neurophysiological Efficiency: Over time, all neural processing moves to the most energy efficient state. Neuroplasticity is driven by long term efficiency of the information processing NOT the long term survival needs of the individual.
Neuronal communication and computation are efficient when considered in the dual (synergistic) context of energy and information rather the either context alone.
In Part II of this topic, Dr. Fred introduces percentages and cyclic training concepts you can apply today. Start using science today to your training. The secrets to athletic success and performance have been studied and researched since the 1950s by the Soviets. These methods have been available to the West since the 1980s and have been modernized and adapted. You don't have to be an Olympic hopeful to utilize these scientific approaches to your athletic endeavors. If you want to lift at the local lifting meet or are a high school athlete or just want a better 5K, proper programming is for everyone. Utilizing a programming plan that can maximize your efforts and results is within your grasp. Dr. Fred Clary, The founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique, World Champion and World record holder in Powerlifting (record still stands from the 1980s) has studied and utilized Soviet methods since the 1980s on himself and hundreds of athletes he has coached in dozens of sports.
Pain is more than an emergency signal. It involves reception and perception and interpretation and suffering. Each component of the 'pain process' requires different controls and can these control interact with each other. Pain is a complicated recipe of many ingredients. Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting and life coach, starts a conversation on the number one reason humans seek health care...PAIN!
The serotonin receptors influence various biological and neurological processes such as aggression, anxiety, appetite, cognition, learning, memory, mood, nausea, sleep, locomotion, respiration, cardiovascular function, sexual desire and performance and thermoregulation. The serotonin receptors are the target of naturally produced sertonin as well as a variety of pharmaceutical and recreational drugs, including many antidepressants, antipsychotics, anorectics, antiemetics, and antimigraine agents.Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting and life coach, finishes a conversation on a neurotransmitter that is involved in so many life functions all around us!
Food related anaphylactic hospitalizations is up 700% !!! Food allergies in general are up 50%. Asthma is on the rise! Why are immune systems getting weaker as a society? Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique and lifting and life coach, opens a conversation in to the subject of 'increasing allergies worldwide'.

Since the late 1940s , Gluten has been blamed for many health issues. Dr. Fred Clary takes a brief scientific and functional approach to this controversy. Is it JUST Gluten, or perhaps, the 20+ other things that are different about our grocery store bought baked goods. This episode only scratches the surface of this subject and I hope to get the listener thinking about other possible causes of 'gluten-centered illness'.
Serotonin is needed in many bodily processes. If we are not getting enough protein, sleep, quiet time, exercise, quality nutrition and music in our lives; we can negatively affect how this important chemical is processed, received, and transported. To change your life you may need serotonin's help.
Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique, reviews how we can work with and not against this influencing chemical.
Serotonin, or 5-HT, predates the nervous system and vertebrates. Yes, it was here first! Serotonin is found and has profound roles in plants, single-celled organisms, multi-celled organisms, worms, flukes, insects, seafood (I mean ocean creatures…I must be hungry), amphibians, reptiles, mammals etc. etc. Serotonin has regulatory functions in the human central and peripheral nervous system, reproductive system, cardiovascular system, endocrine system etc etc. Serotonin is just not a mood regulator.
Dr. Fred Clary the founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique begins a series on the role of the phylogenetically ancient monoamine in our lives and our collective history.
Movement, the ability to crawl and walk and reach and play, is a highly complicated neurological program that our brains (our computers) have to run. It takes lots of bodily resources and physiological capital (neurotransmitters, ATP, neurons and glial). Dr.Fred Clary introduces the concept that your movement can be used to assess your physical state, your strengths and your weaknesses. If you cannot get out of your chair correctly how are you going to fight off a cold, be a balanced parent or undertake a personal relationship correctly. Movement takes priority before most functions as a human being, and if its jacked, everything else suffers no matter how seemly far removed the function.
The more fad diets depart from the laws of biology, the more ridiculous the claims of health and wellness will be. Dr. Fred Clary introduces the concept of following your genetics (who you really are) instead of what the experts that don't have your DNA tell you.
The Soviets and Bulgarians have established the best strength and power training methods by research and results for decades. These methods have been adopted by Westerners since the fall of the Iron Curtain. But Mike Bridges, a 180 pound power-lifter, who in the late 70s and early 80s was lifting more than National champions 100-200 pounds heavier in body-weight, taught me a few valuable lessons about Sport Specific Training.
Dr. Fred Clary, the founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Techniques summarizes seven things he learned from his mentors and coaches. Sometimes you can get all the answers to life from a movie (Casablanca) or a 16 minute podcast.
Dr. Fred Clary, founder of Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique offers some thoughts:
Who is driving your car? Your car of life? You may think it is you since you are behind the wheel, but many times our beliefs are really not ours. They are our teacher's and preacher's and friend's and family's beliefs that have been placed on us. They are driving the car and we are not even aware of it. Your view of reality is your Paradigm. This episode looks at the paradigm.
Paradigm: A set of assumptions, concepts, values, and practices that constitutes a way of viewing reality for the community that shares them, especially in an intellectual discipline.
A philosophical and theoretical framework of a scientific school or discipline within which theories, laws, and generalizations and the experiments performed in support of them are formulated; broadly : a philosophical or theoretical framework of any kind.
Since the late 1960s, the word paradigm has referred to a thought pattern in any scientific discipline or other epistemological context.
Philosopher of science Thomas Kuhn gave this word its contemporary meaning when he adopted it to refer to the set of practices that define a scientific discipline during a particular period of time. Kuhn himself came to prefer the terms exemplar and normal science, which have more exact philosophical meanings. However, in his book The Structure of Scientific Revolutions Kuhn defines a scientific paradigm as:
Your Paradigm controls what questions and answers you accept about this world. Your paradigm controls YOU.
