Jim Miller was a 5 time All American. 3x in D2 and Twice in Division 1. He won 2 NCAA titles and made the finals in D1 when it was still possible to do so. As a coach for powerhouse Wartburg in Iowa he won 21 straight Conference titles, won 10 NCAA championships and 18 times his teams finished in the top 2. He was the coach of the year 5 times and won the Win magazine coach of the year award twice. He is the only D3 coach to ever accomplish that feat. He was also a successful High School coach and an assistant at Northern Iowa for 8 seasons. He is now the director of the Wrestling Hall of fame in Waterloo Iowa. Truly remarkable man. It was an honor and privledge to interview him.

Kelly Ward was a 3x finalist and an NCAA champion for Iowa State. He was also voted the most outstanding wrestler of the NCAA tournament in 1979. Kelly had 6 epic battles with the great Lee Kemp and posted an amazing record of 126-9. He defeated the great Dave Schultz, he was an assistant coach at Nebraska, he coached Olympians, he was a secret service agent, his dad was a legendary football player, the man is a damn champion. I had a lot of fun getting to know him some and hearing some great stories.

Roger Frizzell was a 4 time All American at The University of Oklahoma. He finished 4, 3, 3, 3 under the tutelage of Stan Abel and is still one of OU's best pinners all time. Roger was also teammates with the legendary Schultz brothers Mark and Dave as well as Andre Metzger and Jim Humphrey. Not only was Roger an outstanding wrestler but his PR and marketing skills were instrumental in Keeping wrestling as an Olympic sport. It was an absolute pleasure to talk to him.

Trent Paulson wrestled for Iowa State after going 192-2 in HS in the wrestling rich state of Iowa with 115 falls. He and his Twin Brother Travis had a combined record of 363-5 . Trent won 2 state titles and the Dave Schultz excellence award as a senior. At ISU he was coached by legends Bobby Douglas and eventually Cael Sanderson. He and his twin brother Travis were both 3x All Americans and Trent brought home the NCAA title in 07. Both went on to make a World team. Trent in 09 and Travis the following year. They are now assistant coaches at Virginia working along side Steve Garland. Trent Paulson is cool, and a stud. Have a listen!

He's also an outstanding parent, coach and mentor for at risk youth. His two sons both made the state finals and his youngest was a perfect 55-0 as a SR. They also both played college football and thrived academically. America needs more men like James Cloyd who help strengthen the fabric of this nation. It was a pleasure to get to him some, it felt like talking to an old friend who I just met bonded by the greatest sport on earth.

I could not have enjoyed a wrestling podcast more than I did this one. Gary Mayabb is in the Missouri Hall of Fame. He Officiated for 38 years, He won 7 Missouri State Titles at two different schools. His teams placed in the top 3 nineteen times. He coached some of the absolute best in Missouri history, a state with an outstanding tradition producing 43 state champs, and 143 placers. On the Greco side he coached 17 National Champions and 71 All Americans. Coach Mayabb is now an associate head coach at Iowa for the womens team. He is also a great Husband, father, mentor, and wrestling historian. This conversation left no doubt in my mind as to why he has had so much success. Gary Mayabb is a salt of the earth person.

He then took his talents to D1. Wrestling for Cal State Bakersfield and qualifying for NCAAs as a senior, helping his team finish 3rd behind Iowa and Iowa State. Jonny is now a very successful business man and a great father. This was a fun podcast. I enjoyed it very much and feel like I made another friend in someone I had only read about. Win. Win.

Josh Guiterrez and I had a heck of a time scoring on each other and we couldn't ride each other either but it didn't stop us from having some great scrambles and some great drama in our low scoring affairs. One of my goals was to not give up a take down my senior year. A feat I accomplished until the regional finals where my guest ruined it. We had never spoken until this recording and it was great to get to know and catch up with an old nemesis. Josh now teaches Spanish in Holland and it was cool to learn he didn't hate me like I thought he did for the last 30 years. Lotta memories. Enjoy.

Ryan McCracken started wrestling as a 9th grader and won a Kansas Kids State title his very first year against one of the best in Kids State history in multiple time champ Tiger Lowmaster. As a Sophomore and a second year wrestler he tied Sonny Fite and had a win over Kevin Stewart, both H.S State champs and Phenomenal wrestlers. Ryan got 3rd as a Jr with a severely sprained ankle and as a Sr. he lost in the State finals to stud Andy Ross who he had beaten the week prior at Regionals.
Ryan McCracken may not have achieved his goal of being Turners first HS State Champ but for my money you aren't gonna find a tougher dude. This podcast isn't just about titles, it's about the awesome stories all wrestlers have that so few get to hear and McCracken has those in spades. Not to mention he had amazing hair and looked like a smaller version of the Ultimate warrior. I have also never laughed more doing a wrestling podcast than I did doing this one. Mark Schultz is one of the best wrestlers in U.S History. Ca State Champion (in his first full season of competition) 2x Olympian, 2x World Champion, Olympic Champion, 3x NCAA champion, also voted the best college wrestler of the 80's and he did all of that in a 10 year career which absolutely blows my mind. The movie Foxcatcher is based on his time at the Dupont farm and the tragic death of his brother Dave, also a legend. I ask him about his career, Dave and much more. Brian Roberts is a bad dude. On and off a wrestling mat. Where he grew up in Turner well, they liked to fight, but if I was ever on their turf and I smelled trouble, I just told them I knew Brian. It was always enough. He was a 4 time state placer finishing 3, 2, 2, 2. He went on to be a 2x college All American while battling injuries that would sideline just about anyone else. Ty Friederichs was a 4 time state champion in wrestling rich Minnesota and wrestled 5 years for the Golden Gophers at the University of Minnesota for the legendary coach J. Robinson. He was also teammates with Current head coach Brandon Eggum and the WWE's Brock Lesnar. Ty and his brother T.J are great wrestlers and even better people. Perfect examples of the kind of people the sport produces. Ty is a loyal friend and brother and a phenomenal uncle. I'm proud to call the Friederich boys friends and it was great having Ty on the podcast. He's a different breed of cat.
Rulon Gardner is an American icon. Not only is he an Olympic wrestling champion but he slayed Goliath to do it. Alexander Karelin was going for his 888th straight victory, a 13th World and Olympic championship and an unprecedented 4th Olympic Gold. Dubbed the "experiment" for his freakish strength and physique he was and remains the most dominant wrestler in history, but not on Sept 25, 2000 in Sydney Australia. On that day Karelin met Rulon, and he lost to the man who would not quit. His story is one for the ages. World and Olympic champ. Olympic Bronze and some of the most harrowing experiences and near death experiences you can imagine. Rulon Gardner is one tough dude. It was an honor to talk to him. My favorite Nathan Tomasello moment was when a reporter asked him after taking 3rd for the third time in a row how he wanted to be remembered and he said, I want people to remember I was a warrior. 4x Big Ten champion, 4x All American, National champion as a freshmen and three 3rds. It takes a certain mental toughness to come back for 3rd three times in a row when winning it all was always a strong possibility. Teammates with Kyle Snyder and coached by the Tom Ryan. One of the all time Ohio State greats took the time to time to talk to me in between training for World team trials. National Team member and NCAA champion Nathan Tomasello.
Bill Kinison is the older brother of legendary comedian Sam Kinison. He is also an actor, author, preacher, and Sam's former manager. We had a long conversation about the day Sam died, where the scream came from and Sam's career. We also talked about the pain of losing a brother as I recently lost one of mine. This was the first guest to make me cry and feel better at the same time. When i was 11 Sam Kinison planted the seed for what would become my life and career and talking to someone who knew him so intimately was pretty freaking cool. Bo Maynes went undefeated in Kansas from age 6-18. winning 15 straight state titles. In HS he went 130-0 without giving up one take down. His closest match was 6-0 over another 4 timer from a different class. He also won Jr. Nationals and accepted a scholarship to Oklahoma where he was a Big 12 champion. We talked about his college career and him being the winningest, and in my opinion best wrestler in Kansas history. Super humble, great family man, total stud. The Friederichs name is famous in wrestling rich Minnesota. His uncle Denny is in the Hall of Fame and his brother Ty won 4 state titles but he didn't score on his older brother TJ until his senior year. TJ Friedrichs was a Minnesota Prodigy. Making it to HS state as a seventh grader, unheard of at the time, and placing 2nd as an 8th grader, losing by a point. He placed twice more and beat some of the best in the nation in Freestyle and Greco before the ultra tough, super talented young mans college career was cut short due to injury and the beginning of alcoholism. In this interview T.J talks candidly about his struggles and how it ultimately led to his faith, his coaching career and why he wouldn't change a thing. Wrestlers are a different breed and sometimes God allows us to go through things so we can better teach others. I loved this interview. Allen Hankins is a Kansas wrestling legend. Making the state finals every single year from the time he was 8 all the way through HS, winning all but 2. In High School he wrestled for the Kansas coaching legend Wayne Jackson, where he was a 4x state finalist, 3x Champ. He also wrestled for Nebraska for 4 years and won a D2 National title for Augustana. I always knew who Allen was and it was great to finally have a conversation with him. The first time I saw Matt Infranca wrestle was against a kid from KS who rarely lost. Infranca destroyed him and ill never forget it. I've been intrigued ever since. He went on to win 4 High School state titles in Missouri before accepting a scholarship to Nebraska. He is now a co owner of a company called Battle Gear as well as a coach and father. Wayne Jackson is the winningest coach in Kansas history. 13 state titles. 11 in a row. He's also a super cool ole rassler. He wrestled for K State in the early 70's and hitchhiked to NCAAs. Rick Williams is a Missouri legend. 3x HS state champ and a World Bronze medalist before heading to Iowa State and ultimately Lindenwood where he won 2 NAIA national titles while being a "terrible person" (his words) Rick Williams is as talented as they come on a wrestling mat, he's a great guy and has a great story about what led him to Christ. Rick Williams has an unwavering faith and makes me want to be a better Christian.
Tom Ryan is the National champion head coach of Ohio State University. He was a 2x All American under Dan Gable, roomed with Terry Brands and coached legends Logan Stieber and Kyle Snyder. Dennis Hall is the best Greco Wrestler in United States history. 10x National champion, 3x Olympian, Olympic silver, World Champion. Dan Gable the legend called Chris Campbell his most talented wrestler. In his first yr of competition he went undefeated in New Jersey as a senior. He made the NCAA finals 3 times, winning twice. He made 6 world and Olympic teams, won a world championship and 1 month shy of his 38th birthday became the oldest Olympic medalist in U.S history. Chris Campbell is a bad dude.
Chad Zaputil is a 3x NCAA finalist for the University of Iowa and was coached by the legendary Dan Gable. He had some historic battles w my childhood idol Eric Akin and was in the golden age for 118 pounders, wrestling the likes of Sammie Henson, Akin, Jeff Prescott and Lou Roselli to name a few. All of those guys made a world or Olympic team. He shares some Gable stories and is a great dude. Fun talk.

Temoer Terry is a Kansas wrestling legend. He made 10 straight state finals and won 8 of them losing only as an 8 yr old and as a freshman to another ks legend. After a ton of Freestyle and Greco success he went on to the University of Nebraska where he was a 3x All American and had a victory over USA wrestling legend Joe Williams. I knew a lot of good wrestlers as a kid but Temoer was on another level.
Triston is a 4x state placer and a 2x State champ from Derby High. He'll wrestle this fall at 184 for the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Great kid with an inspirational story.

Ed Geise was one of the best freestyle wrestlers in America in the late 80s, early 90's. The University of Minnesota All American was also close friends with wrestling legend Dave Shultz and trained along side him on Foxcatcher farms in PA where Dave ultimately lost his life, inspiring the hit movie Foxcatcher starring Mark Ruffalo, Steve Carell & Channing Tatum. Ed talks about his relationship with Dave as well as his own phenomenal career.
Pastor Ted was an 81 year old semi retired pastor. We became friends years ago and he recently passed. I was able to record our conversation days before his death. He loved God, he never pretended to be perfect or have all the answers, he was funny, and I and my family will miss him dearly, we will also never forget him and feel very blessed to have become close to him. it was an honor, and we loved him.
Karith Foster is a comedian, actress and Motivational speaker. Karith recently appearing in the Film Documentary "No Safe Spaces" alongside megastars Tim Allen and Adam Corolla.
