Keith is an accomplished natural voice gobbling champion, with wins including the Grand Nationals and U.S. Open gobbling champion. Besides taking trophy toms all across the country, he is also an avid bowhunter, taking game from whitetail deer in the Midwest to Black bear in Canada. Keith is a much requested seminar speaker, an active JAKES volunteer, a founding officer of the St. Louis Longbeards, and a recipient of the NWTF President’s award. Keith has made appearances on Knight and Hale’s Ultimate Hunting television show and Summit’s High Places.

There is a lot of controversy about how MDC is managing CWD. Isabelle addresses those concerns and gives a scientific basis for their management policies. One can look to Wisconsin, Arkansas and now Kansas to see what lack of management of CWD brings. It’s not a pretty picture of deer herds.
There is a small element of people in Missouri who want to totally do away with our Missouri Department of Conservation. They would willingly destroy what has taken decades for Missouri citizens to build, the most respected conservation department in the nation. We set our MDC up through the initiative petition process and created it in 1936 as a part of the Missouri Constitution (Amendment 4) as a separate entity to be managed by professional biologists, thus removing it from the hands of politicians.
We all pay a 1/8th of 1 percent sales tax to support MDC. The per capita cost is roughly $30 per year. For $30/yr. every Missouri citizen has access to over 1 million acres of public MDC lands,enjoys incredible hunting and fishing opportunities, camping, hiking, and outdoor education programs through our schools and local communities. It is the best deal in conservation in the entire USA. Let’s keep it that way.

Jasper began the program almost two decades ago to give kids an opportunity who would otherwise not have a chance to hunt. Children come from single parent families and the program helps handicapped kids get into the outdoors as well. History is made as the Missouri Hunting Heritage Federation holds the first ever youth deer hunt in cooperation with the James Foundation at Maramec Spring Park. MHHF executive director Colton Zirkle and MDC hunter education instructor Dwight Warnke taught hunter safety classes, followed by on-hands instruction, including firearms handling, fence crossing, and shooting crossbows. Seven first time deer hunters enjoyed a fabulous deer hunt at Maramec Spring Park, accompanied by one parent and a mentor. Zack Rothermel took his first deer. Thanks to all participants the MHHF, MDC, the James foundation and parents and mentors the first deer hunt at Maramec Spring Park proved a huge success.

Writers, pro crappie fishermen, and vendors from 14 states gathered at Lake of the Ozarks at Lake Breeze Resort for the #2024LOZFishCamp hosted by Big Mike Jones, of Mississippi, and Brad Wiegeman, of Arkansas. The Catch, Cook and Clean agenda featured fishing contests, fish cleaning contests, cooking contests, and jig tying contests. It was a 3-day event that paired outdoor writers and podcasters with some of the best crappie fishermen in the nation.

Weather deterred many of the turkey hunters who drew into the managed hunt. Forty drew in, but less than a dozen hunters showed up, because of the persistent cold, rainy, windy weather. Cooper and Campa toughed it out. However, they spent a lot of time in camp cooking, eating, and telling stories from their lifetimes of outdoor experience. Campa is a retired conservation agent, and Cooper is a 50-year veteran outdoor writer.

Jessica White, the CEO and president, and Kristen Betts discuss the growing program of Wander Woman Kansas. Jessica grew up in the outdoors turkey hunting, fishing, hiking and exploring. Her mother was active in Girls Scouts. As Jessica grew in her outdoor experiences, she wanted to do more, but found she was often the only woman at outdoor events. As a result she wanted to build an organization where women could enjoy outdoor activities together, be taught by women and explore new outdoor activities. Wander Woman Kansas has grown to several states. “Wander Woman is a safe and comfortable place for women to learn about the outdoors,” said Kristen Betts.
