John Sarbanes
John Sarbanes is author of the Government By The People Act, a bill to promote grassroots-funded, citizen-owned campaigns. He has represented Maryland's 3rd Distinct in Congress since 2007, where he serves on the Energy and Commerce Committee. Sarbanes has authored and secured passage of bills promoting telecommuting in federal agencies, service opportunities for veterans, loan forgiveness for college graduates, and enhanced investment in the nation's health care workforce. He is the chief sponsor of the No Child Left Inside Act, an environmental education bill that is supported by a national coalition of over 2000 organizations.

This week in Congress we voted on the NASA Authorization Act of 2014, the Veterans Access to Care Act, the Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development Appropriations Act, and a few bills regarding tax extensions. In DC we had a campaign finance event that involved representatives of various faith traditions. They spoke about how getting money out of politics and reducing the influence of big money on government is a moral imperative. Also, some shocking news that swept through Capital Hill this week was the defeat of Eric Cantor in his Primary.

This week in Congress we voted on a number of bills including the Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act, the Water Resources Reform and Development Act, a bill to address the wait time issues at the VA, the USA Freedom Act, and the National Defense Authorization Act. Commuting to Congress for the week of May 26th, 2014. This week Congress, because of the anniversary of Tiananmen Square, urged the government of China to respect the freedom of assembly. We also voted on the CJS Act and passed the Intelligence Authorization Act for 2014/2015.
Other news this week includes General Shinseki resigning from the VA because of the scandal involving wait time for our veterans and the President announcing the draw down of troops in Afghanistan.
In the 3rd District I was able to attend the Health Harbor Report Card event.
