Our fourth and final episode in our Miracles of Jesus series of podcasts. We are currently in the gospel of Matthew. Miracles 16 thru 21 are covered.

You’re listening to Wonders of the Bible. This is Frank DeFreitas.

With this broadcast, we will be continuing our Miracles of Jesus series in the gospel of Matthew. In our first three programs, we covered miracles 1 thru 15. In this fourth and final installment, we’ll be covering miracles 16 through 21. There are a total of 37 miracles of Jesus recorded in the Holy Bible, and 21 miracles recorded in our current series: the gospel of Matthew. In future programs, we will be covering the Miracles of Jesus in the gospels of Mark, Luke, and John.

Debi will be joining me to close out our series today.

Let’s begin ...

16. Healing the Gentile Woman’s Daughter

Matthew 15:21-28 -- Then Jesus went thence, and departed into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon. And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil. But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us. But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel. Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me. But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs. And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table. Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.

This miracle is also mentioned in Mark 7:24

17. Feeding the Four Thousand

Matthew 15:29-38 -- And Jesus departed from thence, and came nigh unto the sea of Galilee; and went up into a mountain, and sat down there. And great multitudes came unto him, having with them those that were lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and cast them down at Jesus' feet; and he healed them: Insomuch that the multitude wondered, when they saw the dumb to speak, the maimed to be whole, the lame to walk, and the blind to see: and they glorified the God of Israel.

Then Jesus called his disciples unto him, and said, I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days, and have nothing to eat: and I will not send them away fasting, lest they faint in the way. And his disciples say unto him, Whence should we have so much bread in the wilderness, as to fill so great a multitude? And Jesus saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven, and a few little fishes. And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground. And he took the seven loaves and the fishes, and gave thanks, and brake them, and gave to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude. And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets full. And they that did eat were four thousand men, beside women and children.

This miracle is also mentioned in Mark 8:1.

18. Healing the Epileptic Boy

Matthew 17:14-20 -- And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man, kneeling down to him, and saying, Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatick, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water. And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.

Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me. And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour. Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out? And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

This miracle is also mentioned in Mark 9:17; and Luke 9:38

19. Temple Tax in the Fish’s Mouth

Matthew 17:22-27 -- And while they abode in Galilee, Jesus said unto them, The Son of man shall be betrayed into the hands of men: And they shall kill him, and the third day he shall be raised again. And they were exceeding sorry.

And when they were come to Capernaum, they that received tribute money came to Peter, and said, Doth not your master pay tribute? He saith, Yes. And when he was come into the house, Jesus prevented him, saying, What thinkest thou, Simon? of whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? of their own children, or of strangers? Peter saith unto him, Of strangers. Jesus saith unto him, Then are the children free. Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go thou to the sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: that take, and give unto them for me and thee. This miracle appears only in the gospel of Matthew.

20. Healing Two Blind Men

Matthew 20:29-34 -- And as they departed from Jericho, a great multitude followed him. And, behold, two blind men sitting by the way side, when they heard that Jesus passed by, cried out, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou son of David. And the multitude rebuked them, because they should hold their peace: but they cried the more, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou son of David.

And Jesus stood still, and called them, and said, What will ye that I shall do unto you? They say unto him, Lord, that our eyes may be opened. So Jesus had compassion on them, and touched their eyes: and immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed him. This miracle is also mentioned in Mark 10:46, and Luke 18:35

21. Withering the Fig Tree

Matthew 21:18-22 -- Now in the morning as he returned into the city, he hungered. And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away. And when the disciples saw it, they marvelled, saying, How soon is the fig tree withered away!

Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done. And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive. This miracle is also mentioned in Mark 11:12

This concludes the 21 miracles of Jesus Christ as recorded in the gospel of Matthew.

PART THREE in our series covering the Miracles of Jesus Christ.

You’re listening to Wonders of the Bible. This is Frank DeFreitas.

With this broadcast, we will be continuing our Miracles of Jesus series. In our first two programs, we covered miracles 1 thru 10. In this third installment, we’ll be covering miracles 11 through 15. There are a total of 37 miracles of Jesus recorded in the Holy Bible. We are currently in the gospel of Matthew. We will be revisiting each miracle in the other gospels as the series continues.

Let’s begin ...

11. Curing a Demon-Possessed, Mute Man

Matthew 9:32-35 -- As they went out, behold, they brought to him a dumb man possessed with a devil. And when the devil was cast out, the dumb spake: and the multitudes marvelled, saying, It was never so seen in Israel. But the Pharisees said, He casteth out devils through the prince of the devils. And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.

The gospel of Matthew is the only reference to this miracle in the Holy Bible.

12. Healing a Man’s Withered Hand

Matthew 12:9-14 -- And when he was departed thence, he went into their synagogue: And, behold, there was a man which had his hand withered. And they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath days? that they might accuse him. And he said unto them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out? How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days. Then saith he to the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole, like as the other. Then the Pharisees went out, and held a council against him, how they might destroy him.

This miracle is also mentioned in Mark 3:1, and in Luke 6:6 ... and we will be covering these other books in upcoming shows.

13. Curing a Demon-Possessed, Blind and Mute Man

Matthew 12:22-28 -- Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw. And all the people were amazed, and said, Is not this the son of David? But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils. And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand: And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand? And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out? therefore they shall be your judges. But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you.

This miracle is also mentioned in Luke 11:14

14. Feeding the Five Thousand

Matthew 14:14-21 -- And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick. And when it was evening, his disciples came to him, saying, This is a desert place, and the time is now past; send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves victuals. But Jesus said unto them, They need not depart; give ye them to eat. And they say unto him, We have here but five loaves, and two fishes. He said, Bring them hither to me. And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude. And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full. And they that had eaten were about five thousand men, beside women and children.

This miracle is also mentioned in Mark 6:30, Luke 9:10, and John 6:1

15. Walking on the Sea

Matthew 14:23-33 -- And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone. But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary. And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear.

But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.  And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt? And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased. Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God. This miracle is also mentioned in Mark 6:48, and John 6:19

Podcast series focusing on the miracles of Jesus Christ. Part one.

You’re listening to Wonders of the Bible. This is Frank DeFreitas. If someone asked you how many miracles Jesus performed, would you be able to give them an answer? I know that if someone asked me, I would probably answer by saying “a lot”. The actual number of miracles listed in the Bible is 37. It is said that there are many more miracles of Jesus that were never recorded.

Of course, an even more difficult question would be to name the miracles. I don’t know how many people would be able to do that! Would you be able to name all 37 miracles? I think it’s fair to say that it would be asking a lot!

With that in mind, I thought I would put together a series of podcasts that would list each and every miracle performed by Jesus. And I’ll turn to the Holy Bible to describe each one.

This podcast will cover miracles 1 thru 5. Future podcasts will cover more.

Usually, the miracles of Jesus are listed in the order that they were performed. However, I’m not going to be listing them that way. I will list them so that you can easily follow along with the programs.

For instance, I will begin with the gospel of Matthew, and stay in the Gospel of Matthew, starting in chapter eight. I hope that you will enjoy learning about each one.

So let’s begin...

1 . Cleansing a Leper

Matthew 8:1-3 -- When he was come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him.  And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.  And Jesus put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.

This miracle is also mentioned in Mark 1:40; and Luke 5:12

2. Healing a Centurion’s Servant

Matthew 8:5-8 -- And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him,  and saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented.  And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him.  The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.

This miracle is also mentioned in Luke 7:1

3. Healing Peter’s Mother-in-Law

Matthew 8:14-15 -- And when Jesus was come into Peter’s house, he saw his wife’s mother laid, and sick of a fever. And he touched her hand, and the fever left her: and she arose, and ministered unto them.

This miracle is also mentioned in Mark 1:30; and in Luke 4:38

4. Healing the Sick at Evening

Matthew 8:16-17  -- When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses. This miracle is also mentioned in Mark 1:32; and Luke 4:40

5. Stilling the Storm

Matthew 8:23-27 -- And when he was entered into a ship, his disciples followed him. And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep. And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish. And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.  But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!

This miracle is also mentioned in Mark 4:35; and Luke 8:22

If you enjoyed this first part, stay tuned to wonders of the bible as we go through all 37 miracles -- and visit my web site at wondersofthebible.org.
