Cristian Contreras is a professional producer, composer, musician from Sydney who holds a Bachelor and a Masters degree from the Australian Institute of Music. He specializes in Contemporary, Jazz, Latin Jazz, Classical, World and Latin American production and repertoire. In 2007 he pursued his university studies in Sydney, Australia. Once there, he formalized ‘Contreras Music’ as an individual sole trader entity and began to work 2 jobs simultaneously, while studying full time at the Australian Institute of Music. His studies at the institute focused on Contemporary performance, with supporting core studies in composition, improvisation and production basics.
At age 19 Cristian had already completed his Bachelors degree and begun post graduate studies. During the following years he undertook various academic projects such as the complete production, recording, composition and launch of his debut album ‘Latin Conceptions’ as chief musical director. This was released in late 2010 at Sydney’s premier Jazz venue - The Basement, which also marked the completion of his Masters Degree. His studies of music production and composition at A.I.M led to many recording and producing opportunities at studios such as S.A.E and Q studios during 2007-2010. This developed his skills and knowledge of Protools, Logic, Reason, Sibelius and MIDI to a proficient level. In 2008 Cristian went on tour with international French vocalist Sylvie Boisel to the Melba Food and Wine festival in Melbourne as musical director, pianist and MC. He has also performed at establishments such as Star City casino, Seymour center the Basement and many others.
From 2011 to early 2012, Cristian traveled around the world independently (England, France, Germany, Austria, Spain, Japan, Vietnam, Indonesia and Thailand, among other countries) for personal artistic development, and in order to experience new music and cultures. With 15 years of musical experience, as well as performance and production experience at national and international levels, Cristian Contreras has the talent, motivation and confidence to excel in today’s competitive music industry.
