Melissa Histon, founder of The Sista Code community and Got Your Back Sista charity, leads a series of conversations with various public figures, thought-leaders and real women who all have stories and life lessons to share. Mel keeps the conversation real, and explores the success, failures, learnings and insights from incisive humans on how to live a happier, joyful and productive life
At some point, many women wake up and wonder...
How did I end up living a life that no longer feels like mine?
After years of putting everyone else first, chasing success, meeting expectations and trying to be "good enough", it's easy to lose touch with the one voice that matters most – your own.
In this deeply thought-provoking conversation, bestselling author, women's leadership expert and PhD researcher Megan Dalla-Camina shares why so many women stop trusting themselves, how we're conditioned to look outside ourselves for answers, and why the path back begins by remembering who we really are.
Together we explore burnout, people-pleasing, intuition, meditation, feminine wisdom, spirituality and the courage it takes to create a life that's true to you.
If you've ever felt restless, disconnected or like you're living someone else's version of success, this episode will leave you feeling inspired to come home to yourself.
In this episode we discuss:
✨ Remember: Everything you need to know is already inside you. Sometimes the greatest journey is simply remembering who you've always been.

In this inspiring episode, Belinda shares the mindset that helped her build an extraordinary life, why she's never been afraid to ask "Why not?", and what she's learned about purpose, generosity and staying grounded along the way.
Together, we explore why success alone can't fulfil you, the importance of surrounding yourself with the right people, overcoming self-doubt, and why giving back has become one of the most meaningful chapters of her journey.
Whether you're chasing a dream, navigating a new season of life, or wondering what truly matters, this conversation will leave you feeling inspired to think bigger—and live more intentionally.

Have you ever wondered if the people we love ever really leave us?
Maybe you've had a dream that felt incredibly real. A favourite song played at exactly the right moment. You caught the unmistakable scent of someone's perfume, or a bird appeared when you needed comfort most. Are these simply coincidences... or could they be signs?
In this deeply moving conversation, psychic medium and psychiatric nurse Rebecca Gibson returns to Hey Soul Sista to explore one of life's greatest mysteries: whether our loved ones continue to communicate with us after they've passed.
Rebecca shares her own extraordinary experiences, including her near-death experience, powerful stories of spirit communication, and why she believes our consciousness continues long after our physical bodies are gone. Together, we discuss why grief can sometimes make it harder to notice signs, how dreams, songs and synchronicities can become meaningful messages, and why slowing down may be the key to recognising them.
Whether you're spiritual, sceptical or simply missing someone you love, this conversation offers comfort, hope and a beautiful reminder that love may never truly leave us.
In this episode we discuss:
• Do our loved ones stay with us after they die?
• The most common signs people receive from loved ones
• Dreams, songs, scents and synchronicities
• Why grief can block us from recognising signs
• Rebecca's extraordinary personal experiences
• What happens when we die?
• Can our loved ones hear us when we talk to them?

What happens when the woman everyone remembers as a beauty icon discovers that the greatest transformation isn’t how she looks — but who she becomes?
In this very special episode of Hey Soul Sista, I sit down with Alison Brahe-Daddo — one of Australia’s most recognisable models and, for many women of my generation, a true teenage icon.
But this conversation isn’t just about the magazine covers or the modelling years. It’s about the woman behind the image and the many chapters that have shaped her journey.
Ali shares what it was like growing up in the spotlight, taking the leap to move to America, building a life and family, and navigating the identity shifts that come with different seasons of womanhood.
We talk about:
✨ Leaving behind one version of yourself and finding another
✨ The courage it takes to reinvent yourself
✨ Marriage, motherhood and growing together through life’s changes
✨ Menopause as a powerful transition, not an ending
✨ Her book Queen Menopause and the lessons she learned along the way
✨ Creating Aviiana and why supporting women through midlife became such an important mission

Have you ever promised yourself, "This time will be different"… only to find yourself slipping back into the same habits, behaviours or patterns?
Whether it's emotional eating, people-pleasing, unhealthy relationships, procrastination or simply struggling to stick with the changes you want to make, so many of us end up asking the same question:
Why do I keep doing this?
In this episode of Hey Soul Sista, psychologist Kaz Amos explains why lasting change is about so much more than willpower. Together, we explore what's really happening inside the brain, why we're wired to seek what's familiar, how our nervous system shapes our behaviour, and why understanding ourselves with compassion is often the key to breaking old patterns.
In this conversation, we discuss:
• Why we keep returning to behaviours we know aren't serving us
• The difference between knowing what to do and actually being able to do it
• Why your brain naturally prefers what's familiar
• How neural pathways influence your habits and behaviour
• The role of dopamine, stress and emotional regulation
• Why shame often keeps us stuck
• Practical ways to create lasting change with self-awareness and self-compassion
If you've ever felt frustrated with yourself for ending up back where you started, this episode will leave you with a completely different perspective—and hopefully a little more kindness towards yourself.

After spending seven days in a coma with a rare and life-threatening form of bacterial meningitis, renowned neurosurgeon Dr Eben Alexander says he experienced a reality beyond this world—one that challenged everything he thought he knew about life, death and consciousness.
Before his near-death experience, Dr Eben was a respected brain surgeon who believed consciousness was created entirely by the brain. But what happened during those seven days would completely transform his understanding of reality and lead him to write the international bestseller Proof of Heaven.
In this profound and thought-provoking conversation, host - Mel Histon - and Dr Eben explore some of humanity's biggest questions:
✨ What happens when we die?
✨ Does consciousness survive beyond the physical body?
✨ Can we reconnect with loved ones after death?
✨ What is a life review?
✨ Why are so many people reporting near-death experiences?
✨ Is there a deeper purpose behind suffering and grief?
✨ What role does love play in the journey of the soul?
Dr Eben also shares the extraordinary story of meeting a woman during his near-death experience who would later be revealed to be his biological sister—someone he had never met in this lifetime.
Whether you're curious, skeptical, grieving someone you love, or simply searching for deeper meaning, this conversation offers a fascinating exploration of life, death and the possibility that we are far more than our physical bodies.
One message sits at the heart of Dr Eben's story:

Why do we keep attracting the same relationships… repeating the same patterns… and choosing what feels familiar, even when it hurts?
In this episode of Hey Soul Sista, I sit down with Amy Nobile Messing to explore the hidden patterns that shape how we love, choose, and connect in modern life.
We go far beyond dating and relationships into the deeper layers of human behaviour—why we repeat the same patterns, how our subconscious and emotional wounds influence who we’re drawn to, and what it really means to create conscious, aligned connection.
Amy shares her powerful insight that “you can only meet someone as deeply as you’ve met yourself” and unpacks what that looks like in real life—from dating apps and modern love confusion, to emotional availability, intuition, and the shift from choosing from wounds to choosing from worth.

A tragic event in our hometown of Newcastle has sparked a much bigger conversation about the world we are living in.

This is not a black-and-white conversation.
It’s a human one.
A reflection on how we respond to tragedy, how fear shapes policy, and what it really means to feel free in today’s world.

What happens when the life you’ve built over decades begins to fall apart?
In this deeply moving episode of Hey Soul Sista, I sit down with acclaimed author and journalist Karina Machado — the writer behind the beloved books Spirit Sisters, Where Spirits Dwell, and Love Never Dies.
For years, Karina has dedicated her work to exploring extraordinary real-life stories of spiritual experiences, intuition, and connection beyond the physical world.
But in midlife, she found herself living her own.
After the gradual end of her 27-year marriage, Karina entered what she describes as a profound tarot “Tower moment” — a time of loss, identity unraveling, and deep emotional transformation.
And then something began to shift.
Not in an overnight, dramatic way… but through subtle experiences of meaning, synchronicity, and life feeling strangely alive with messages and guidance.
In this conversation, Karina shares:
We also explore powerful themes of spiritual experience, intuition, and the invisible threads that seem to guide us through life’s most uncertain moments.
Karina’s perspective is both grounded and deeply expansive — shaped by decades of storytelling, journalism, and listening to others share their most intimate encounters with the unseen.

Many women grow up believing it’s their job to keep everyone else happy — to be the good girl, the peacekeeper, the one who doesn’t rock the boat. But what if that belief is the very thing keeping you exhausted, resentful, and disconnected from yourself?
In this episode of Hey Soul Sista, host, Mel Histon, is joined by psychologist Kaz Amos for a deep, compassionate conversation about people pleasing — where it comes from, why it’s so hard to stop, and how it quietly shapes our confidence, self-worth, and relationships.

We talk about the good girl conditioning so many women carry into adulthood, why saying no can feel unbearable, and what it really means to stop taking responsibility for other people’s emotions.
This is a powerful conversation for anyone who:

Elizabeth Kubler-Ross said people are only capable of two emotions – love and fear. All positive emotions come from love and all negative emotions from fear. From love flows happiness, contentment, peace and joy. From fear comes anger, hate, anxiety and guilt. They are opposites. If we are in fear, we are not in a place of love. When we are in love, then we are not in a place of fear.
In this episode, special guest, Rebecca Gibson, and Host, Mel Histon, discuss the difference between our Love and Fear and how we can make the switch from living a fearful life to a more loving one.

We all experience trauma and tragedy at some time in our lives, which has the potential for long-term stress and emotional wounds. Yet some people seem to progress in life, after trauma, happy, content even, and not in a way that suggests they are burying their feelings or minimising their pain.
Experiencing positive transformation after trauma is known as post-traumatic growth.
People who experience post-traumatic growth may experience a new appreciation for life, new-found personal strength, see an improvement in their relationships, see new possibilities in life, and undergo spiritual changes.
In this episode of Hey Soul Sista, special guests, Kaz Amos and Kate Histon, and host, Mel Histon, look at why and how some people experience such profound positive changes after enduring something terrible and yet others may struggle.

This is the hero’s journey - a 12 step journey, that begins with a call to adventure, a challenge or quest that presents itself to an ordinary person in the ordinary world. You could be a hero! In this episode of Hey Soul Sista, guest, Charlotte Thaarup, and host, Mel Histon, discuss ‘The Hero’s’ Journey’. Why is the hero's journey important? The hero's journey demonstrates that change is possible for everyone. It shows us that an ordinary person can overcome great adversity and defeat their enemies or fears. With some help, they can affect the world in some way.

We all know that having a positive outlook on life is good for your mental well-being. The problem is that life isn’t always positive. We all deal with painful emotions and experiences.
Those emotions, while often unpleasant, are important and need to be felt and dealt with openly and honestly.
Toxic positivity is the belief that no matter how dire or difficult a situation is, people should maintain a positive mindset. It’s a ‘good vibes only’ approach to life. And while there are benefits to being an optimist and engaging in positive thinking, toxic positivity instead rejects difficult emotions in favour of a cheerful, often falsely positive, facade.
In this episode of Hey Soul Sista, host, Mel Histon, pull sthat apart with very special guest the fabulous and very soulful sista – Efia Sulter!

We all have two voices inside us. There’s the one that is nurturing and uplifting—the voice that empowers us to lean into what we love, of confidence, encouragement, and possibility.
Then there’s the one that is critical and discouraging—the voice that weighs us down like gravity, rendering us incapable of growing into who we are ought to become. That second voice is your inner critic. And it’s a form of self-sabotage—it’s holding you back from seeing the change you want to create in your life.
In this episode of Hey Soul Sista, special guest, Dr Ricki Leigh Elliot, talks about our inner critic: where it comes from, the impact that it has on our lives, how we can silence it and amplify our confidence!

Do you have a strained relationship with your mother but don't know why? Is she competitive with you, treating you more like a rival than a daughter? Do you get a strong sense that she wants you to do well in life...but not too well? We like to think of mothers as being universally pleased by and proud of their daughters’ accomplishments, beaming as their offspring shine, but the research shows that it’s often not true.
Many mothers compete with their daughters, are jealous of them and try to control their lives. While daughters become helpless and depressed because they don’t know how to deal with the hatred that comes from the woman who gave birth to them. In this episode, counsellor Kaz Amos, discusses mother/daughter relationships with host, Mel Histon, and why they are not always the loving, positive relationship we want or expect them to be.

Words are the creator; the creator of our universe, our lives, our reality. Without words, a thought
can never become a reality. It can be argued that the real power to shape our lives lies in our words
we speak. It is our words that provide a bold affirmation of our innermost thoughts. They are a
confirmation to the world of how we see others, our lives and ourselves. It is this powerful
affirmation that our words provide which enables our thoughts to manifest into a reality.
In this episode, yogi and author of ‘Watch Ya Language’, Meg Linton, talks about how we can either
harness or misuse our most powerful asset, through sharing her own story of trauma to self-
discovery.

Renown spiritual leader and international best-selling author, Don Miguel Ruiz, introduced ‘The Four Agreements’ concept over twenty years ago. ‘The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom’ book offers a code of conduct based on ancient Toltec wisdom that advocates freedom from self-limiting beliefs that may cause suffering and limitation in a person's life. He sees our major problem as our fear of being ourselves. Most of the trouble in our lives we bring upon ourselves as judge, victim, and hostage to societal belief systems, laws, and practices.
In this episode, ‘Hey Soul Sista Podcast’ host, Mel Histon, and mindfulness expert and international speaker, Charlotte Thaarup, talk through each of the Four Agreements and discuss how (and if we should) integrate them into our lives.

In this episode, Mel talks about the death of her dear friend, Meg Purser, end-of-life care and the dying process with Death Doula, Ruth Boydell. Like life itself, our experience of dying and death is unique. More and more, people are opting to engage a death doula to provide the dying and their family with support, guidance, companionship and even advocacy as they move from diagnosis and end-of-life care, through to death and bereavement. Birth and death have so much in common, yet we are much more comfortable with the beginning of life than we are with the end of it. This episode takes a look at how we can best support loved ones through the dying process.

A narcissistic parent can be defined as someone who lives through, is possessive of, and/or engages in marginalizing competition with their child. Typically, the narcissistic parent perceives the independence of a child (including adult children) as a threat, and coerces them to exist in the parent’s shadow, with unreasonable expectations. In a narcissistic parenting relationship, the child is rarely loved just for being herself or himself. People are accessories to them, and little more than a disposable means to meet their own ends.

Domestic violence doesn’t start with a shove or slap in the face. It starts with actions that are often mistaken for love and desire. Going through life changes can feel super uncomfortable: starting a new job or finishing an old job, retiring, becoming an empty nester, new people in your team, a new boss at work, death in a family, world pandemics….
Sure, no one likes feeling uncomfortable, but it’s a big part of improving your performance, creativity and learning in the long run. However, many people struggle with, and even avoid change.
Kinesiologist, Presenter and Author, Bernadette O’Connor, joins Mel in this episode to talk about why change feels so uncomfortable, how it manifests in our body and how we can use our energy to move through the un-comfortableness of change.
