There are very hard truths that I really want to break down. Not everybody will see the potential of your business. Not everyone will see the potential of what you bring to the table. Not everyone will see your potential as an employee. Not everyone can see your potential as a startup. Not everyone will see your potential as a freelancer.

Now that we've gotten that out the way, let me also make this very clear: that person is only one person who does not see the value in what you feel is valuable.

You have to keep going. This is the part where you must simply have conviction and have the understanding while possessing the patience to trust your skillset, to trust your ability, to trust yourself, to trust that what you want will manifest in time.

It's not enough to create good content consistently. It's not enough to get awards and features and guest appearances and all these different things if the work and energy and effort and time it takes to get those things or be a part of those things or create those things does not establish and create the perception you need in order to get the result that you want.

All this effort, all this energy, all those resources, and maybe all this money being exerted into content with the intentions of building brand equity, growing your business, establishing as a thought leader, as a strong presence within your industry, your clients, or consumer base, whatever it might be, and it doesn't do that, will fail. It's not working efficiently. It's not working effectively for the intent and purposes of why you're doing it.

Some of the world's richest and most influential politicians, celebrities, tech, moguls, and companies were the subject of a massive Twitter hack: Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Michael Bloomberg, and Bill Gates were among some of the accounts pushing out tweets, asking for millions of followers to send money to a Bitcoin address.

  1. It was probably the epiphany of #Fail. The truth of the matter is, you will never understand how amazing success feels if you don't go through the valleys that failure puts you in.

Failure. It's a reality we all face. It comes with every success story ever told. There is no escaping it to obtain success. You must fail.

What is value?

We say, "Give value."

First, let's define value.

Value is the human currency we feed on. Value in business markets is the worth and monetary terms of the technical, economic service, and social benefits a customer, company receives in exchange for the price it pays for a market offering.

In layman's terms, give value to get value.

Are you able to be direct? If people don't know what you want...

If people don't know what you do...

If people don't know what you offer...

If people don't know the problem that you solve...

If people don't know you exist...

You can't make any money.

You can't grow a business.

You'll never win.

You need to be direct and broadcast who you are.

State the amount that you charge.

Be upfront. Be direct.

Now, from here, it's not enough to just be direct. To get people to listen attentively to you, you must...

What is the future of marketing?

Where is marketing going?

How should I market in 2021?

Technology is changing.

Socioeconomics is changing.

We're living in a pandemic.

This all influences consumer habits and, consequently, marketing.

People have pushed the four P's forever.

The future of marketing is going to drop the Four P's (product, price place, and promotion) and elevate the Four E's.

This new approach to the customer value proposition embodies Engagement, Exclusivity, Experience, and Emotion.

You hear about the inspiring stories of Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerbeg, and others all the time. It makes you think that, if you just gathered up enough courage and jumped in the deep end, then you would achieve the same outcome. I've experienced the same feelings. This is an example of survivorship bias.

Here's what you don't read or hear about a lot: You rarely hear the story of the person who quits their well-paying job, takes out a massive loan and goes bankrupt. But guess what? It happens all the time. Businesses don't die with a roar. They usually die with a whimper quietly when no one is looking.

There's risk in starting a business. There's risk in telling your story. Because the outcome may not be what you originally thought, and that's a hard pill to swallow.

People telling tall tales of success from the stage talk about all these amazing things. They may tell you, "Yeah. I failed five times, 10 times, 25 times. But on the 26th time, I made it." They skim through that period of failure. That period could have been one year. That period had been 10 years. That period could have been 45 years of sacrifice.

That's what I want to talk about in this episode: Risk. We don't talk about risk enough when it comes to business. We don't talk about risk enough when it comes to marketing. So, I think it's time we talk about it. This is episode number nine, #Risk
