š SHOW NOTES:
(0:48) Being friends first lets you get to know them on a deeper level. Youāre not putting your best foot forward. (0:51) The common dating philosophy of getting to know someone while youāre dating them is fundamentally flawed. Youāre introducing emotions into the mix with someone you donāt know yet! Bad idea! (1:10) By being friends first, you get to see them in different environments and see how they communicate with those around them - their family, friends, teachers, classmates - people they like and people they donāt like. Get to know who they are as a person, not just a love interest. (1:33) Get to know them in community without an agenda of seeing if theyāre bf/gf material. (2:06) The physical side of a relationship requires a certain level of commitment to be appropriate. (2:19) If you rush to the physical side, you base your entire relationship on what you do instead of who you are. (2:33) Build the friendship part of the relationship instead of rushing to the physical side. (2:55) People often see compromising physically as a substitute for commitment in a relationship. (3:15) Being someoneās lifelong teammate is based on so much more than superficial similarities. (3:23) You can see their flaws much easier if you see them as just a friend - people compromise really easily if they like someone. (4:05) When you ignore little things that amount to a big thing in the end, itās because youāre looking through a false starry-eyed lens. (4:17) What does this look like practically? (4:41) āWeāre already friends..ā Ask lots and lots of questions! Come up with a list of questions! Check out our free eBook of conversation starters here: (5:29) Fragile Intimacy explained. You have to have a depth and breadth of knowledge in a personās life to understand who they are. Different parts of people can influence they way they make different decisions. TL;DR - Stay in community, build friendships, and ASK LOTS OF QUESTIONS! Trust that in making friends, God will lead you to the right one!

š SHOW NOTES:
This week in Part 2 of āBecoming Whole In Relationshipsā weāre covering more practical applications of wholeness in relationships! (0:32) āDo not stir up nor awaken love until it pleases.ā - Song of Sol. 8:4 (0:50) Our fulfillment doesnāt come from others, but from God. (1:12) Unwholeness Indicator #1 - Bending on what you believe in for someone elseās happiness. (1:28) Compromising on your boundaries is an unhealthy place to be - emotionally, physically, spiritually. (1:37) Unwholeness Indicator #2 - Lack of Boundaries (2:14) If youāre a whole person, youāre going to want to set up boundaries. Youāre going to want to stay whole - protecting yourself and the person that youāre dating. (2:30) Unwholeness Indicator #3 - Unhealthy Emotional Walls/Boundaries (2:57) Unwholeness Indicator #4 - Shutting down when people try to learn more about you. āIf they really knew who I was/how I felt, they wouldnāt love me anymore.ā (3:14) If youāre dating someone who thinks youāre not likable the way God made you, youāre dating the wrong person. You shouldnāt be with someone who doesnāt treasure every part of who you are. (3:24) Unwholeness Indicator #5 - Thereās also the opposite: Fear of what youāll find if you got to know them better. āI like what I already knowā¦but itās too good to be true so I wonāt get to know them any deeper.ā Your relationship canāt grow if you arenāt willing to learn about every aspect of your SOās life! (3:39) Fragile Intimacy. Go deeper with people in every area of their lives. (4:23) Ask questions! Learn more about people, share more about yourself. (5:48) Getting to know someone is a process. Physiologists say it takes 3 months to multiple years to actually get to know someone. (6:37) Donāt be satisfied with knowing your SO only superficially. (6:44) Even if you and your SO are both whole as individuals, you have to know each other inside and out to achieve wholeness as a couple. (7:07) One of the ways that God will bring healing to you is through a community of likeminded believers. Community is the best possible antidote to isolation. (7:37) Fear isolates, but grace brings in community. Grace brings people together. (8:30) If you are healed and whole, how can you help those in your community who arenāt yet?

š SHOW NOTES:
(0:23) Many people go into relationships the same way they came out of the last one and expect different results. (0:46) So many expect to be made whole in their next relationship - but only God can make us whole. (1:02) By going into your relationship with āneeds,ā youāre setting your partner up to fail. God is the only one who can fulfill us and meet or exceed every expectation! (1:19) Expectations arenāt bad at al - in the sense of standards! You donāt want to settle. Just donāt go into it trying to fill something in you with something in someone else. (1:43) Relationship advice is so needs-driven - watch out for it! Our needs should be taken care of in our relationship with Jesus. (2:16) You donāt need anyone to complete you; however, āTwo are better than one.ā (Ecc. 4:9-10) A teammate should double your usefulness! (2:46) Your needs were never meant to be met in your partner - they were always meant to be met only in Jesus. (3:20) How do we become and live fulfilled? (3:27) Let God fill you up, so no one else has to. Let God heal any past hurts from people against you. (4:04) Just because you donāt feel like youāre moving forward, doesnāt mean God isnāt moving! (4:50) āSearch me, O God, and know my heart; Try me and know my anxieties; And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting!ā - Psalms 139:23-24 (5:13) Sometimes when we donāt even realize it, Godās doing the most healing inside of us. Spend time with God and trust that Heāll do His thing! ;)
Want to know some practical ways of applying this? Some āred flagsā that indicate that thereās still some healing that needs to happen before youāre whole? Join us next time for Part 2 of Becoming Whole In Relationships! Any thoughts on the epiode? Drop us an email! We'd love to hear from you.
