When it comes to creating content for your fitness business, it’s very easy to assume that the key to success is to post content consistently across all of your platforms. However, maintaining this level of consistency can be extremely time-consuming and draining on your energy levels, right? It’s hard enough holding down a busy class and client schedule, and adding in the additional workload of creating 5 posts a week for Instagram, writing your client newsletter every week, and uploading a video to YouTube in that same 7 day stretch – it’s enough to make you reach breaking point, isn’t it? In this week’s episode of the Pelvicpreneur Podcast, Claire is introducing you to a new approach to content marketing that’s called “posting with intention”. Claire walks you through what content changes she’s made in her business when it comes to posting on Instagram, creating podcasts and scheduling in newsletter content, and the findings may actually surprise you, so pop your earbuds in, grab a notepad and pen, and enjoy!

Kegels have been around since Dr Arnold Kegel invented them in 1948, and it's fair to say that we've definitely moved mountains of change in the pelvic floor industry in the last decade or so, but Kegels are still being prescribed as the "go-to" exercise in a lot of cases. You may be aware that there are a few issues associated with the Kegel, particularly if clients have been doing them regularly, but not getting any results. And, you may also know that a lot of clients aren't necessarily performing their Kegels with 100% accuracy if verbal cues alone are used. But, were you aware that there are more than 9 reasons why Kegels are a problem?! Well, in this week's episode of the Pelvicpreneur Podcast, resident pelvic floor expert, Claire Mockridge is here to share ALL of the PROBLEMS she's encountered with clients doing Kegels over the years, so strap yourself in, grab a cup of your favourite non-bladder irritating beverage, and enjoy!

When it comes to teaching movement and exercise to clients, there are lots and lots of ways that you can do this as a Fitness Professional. The vegan-friendly way of saying this is “There’s more than one way to peel an orange”! Now, depending on how you entered the fitness industry, and/or who trained you, you may have been encouraged to cue exercises to clients following a step-by-step, cue-by-cue approach. Over the years, perhaps you’ve been influenced by lots of educators out there, and you may have even developed your own strong opinions about HOW movement teachers should be cueing exercise. In this week’s episode of the Pelvicpreneur Podcast, allow Claire to take you on a trip down memory lane where she shares: a taster of her own teaching style with you; WHY everyone who teaches movement teaches it differently, and why it’s necessary for you to develop your own teaching style (which sets you apart from your competitors). Pop your earbuds in, take a listen to this insightful episode, and enjoy!

Ever wondered if conditions like prolapse, stress and urge incontinence, pelvic girdle pain, birth trauma and/or abdominal separation could be prevented? It's an interesting question (and a long list of conditions!) to ponder, isn't it? It's true that a lot of the work we do as FitPros is in a rehabilitation setting: we assess, we treat and we get people out of pain, but what if some of the conditions that are so prevalent in the postnatal population nowadays, could actually be addressed when working with our pregnant clients? Would you like to be a part of a new wave of pre-hab versus re-hab expert? If so, tune into this insightful episode of the Pelvicpreneur Podcast, where Claire shares her thoughts on the topic of prevention versus cure. Pop your earbuds in, take a walk and enjoy!

When it comes to working with diastasis recti clients, the whole "Should they do sit ups, or should they avoid them altogether?" debate gets swirled around in postnatal exercise circles quite often, doesn't it? It's truly annoying for us as FitPros that the 2 most common exercises that the majority of the human population on the planet know about are: 1) the plank and 2) sit ups, and as postnatal exercise specialists, we have our work cut out for us about educating our clients on safe movements to perform whilst they're in a rehab setting. If you want to know if sit ups should be avoided entirely for postpartum clients, then tune into this week's episode of the Pelvicpreneur Podcast to find out. In this segment, Claire helps arm you with all the information you need to be able to answer the questions "Can I do sit ups?" or "So and so told me to avoid sit ups, is that right?" the next time a postpartum person asks you these. Are you ready to have your eyes and ears opened? If so, pop your earbuds in now and enjoy!

When it comes to seeing 1:1 clients virtually and/or teaching classes online, it can be really draining on your energy, can't it? If you've ever felt the need to decompress or literally lie down in a darkened room after a Zoom call, please know that you're not alone. Teaching anything online (regardless of the subject matter) requires a different skills set to seeing clients in-person. When it comes to teaching exercise online though - well, there's dead air time to fill in between reps, the constant movement you have to do back and forth between demonstrating an exercise and checking your screen to make sure your participants' technique is ok, and we can't NOT mention the constant lag or delay that happens every single time you're trying to have a conversation! In this week's episode of the Pelvicpreneur Podcast, Claire is here to share her experience of protecting her own physical and mental energy when showing up live; what Zoom calls she's tweaked so her clients get the best out of her every single time; and a whole host of useful tips on how you too can do the same. Pop your earbuds in now and enjoy!

Most FitPros use some form of content marketing to attract clients into their business. And, if you've been doing what you do for a number of years now, you've probably produced and published LOTS of content, right? But, have you ever wondered about whether something you posted on Facebook or Instagram 5 years ago should still be there on public view? Have you ever considered the implications of a prospective client finding a blog post that you wrote over a decade ago that's now full of misinformation because your industry has moved on, new research has been published, and/or you've updated your qualifications since then? In this anecdotal style episode, Claire is here to give you a timeline tour of all of the social media platforms and content marketing strategies she's used since 2005, as well as what content she's removed from public view and why she's done so. After listening in to this episode, you'll learn exactly what the best practices are for you to follow if you have old content still swimming around. Pop your headphones on, talk a walk, and tune in now!

There are times as a FitPro, when we struggle to motivate ourselves to do those all-important tasks that will drive our business forwards. Teaching and interacting with clients daily means you often have a constant smile on your face, and that's an energy drain in itself, isn't it? If you've ever felt like taking a nanna nap during the day because you just can't bring yourself to face your To Do List for the afternoon, please know that that's ok, and oftentimes feeling this way happens for a deeper reason. In this week's thought-provoking episode, hear Claire explain WHY we sometimes experience a dip in motivation, and discover the 4 actionable questions to ask yourself to be aware of the signs in the future. Episode 120 may be one of these episodes that you listen to once now to get yourself fired up to take action, but it may also be worth adding this segment to your "downloads" in your podcast app, to return to at a later date when you really need that motivational voice in your ear. When it comes to advising clients with prolapse about the do's and don’ts of exercise, for the FitPro, it can sometimes feel a bit awkward, can't it? Maybe someone somewhere has said to one of your POP clients "Don't lift your toddler", or "Using hand weights is an absolute no-no", or "Squats are best avoided" etc, and this advice sometimes makes you scratch your head, and even worse - it makes you question yourself as a pelvic floor specialist too, doesn't it? In this episode, Claire is sharing some past prolapse client case studies where these scenarios happened to her, and what strategies she applied to overcome them. Note: don't miss the best part of the episode, right at the end, where Claire delivers a statement that clarifies EXACTLY which exercises, activities, movements and/or sports your prolapse clients should avoid, so grab your earbuds, tune in now and enjoy!

It's true that there's life beyond the Shoulder Bridge and the Kegel when it comes to prescribing exercises to clients with pelvic floor dysfunction, but do you know the real reasons why standing exercises are so incredibly beneficial for our pelvic floor patients? Whilst it's a delicious experience to lay our postnatal clients on their backs post-pregnancy, it's not always practical to do this (particularly once you throw a baby/toddler and/or a four-legged friend into the mix!), and if workout space is an issue for you or your client, you need to put your thinking cap on for sure, don't you? In this episode, Claire is highlighting a recent client case study where she relieved a client (22 years post-birth!), of her stress and urge incontinence symptoms by prescribing standing exercises only. If you'd like to be a fly-on-the-wall in Claire's clinic room as she spells out this clients' exercise history and pelvic floor symptoms, as well as a list of the standing exercises she set this client for homework, grab a notebook and pen, pop your earbuds in and enjoy!

Social media content is all about balance. Sure, it's important to educate your followers about safe and effective exercise, and to inform them about how your approach can help them, and how it differs to other approaches etc, but have you ever thought about what impression you're giving prospective clients via your social media content? Do you only post work-related stuff on your business Instagram or Facebook page, for example? Do you ever let clients in and peel back the curtain for a peek of what interests you outside work, or what you do when you're "off the clock"? Are you scared to share anything messy, negative, or a personal story from your life because people will judge or think less of you? Here's the thing: people buy from people, so if all you're sharing on social media is educational, "how-to" content 100% of the time, what impression do prospective clients have of you? Tune into this week's episode to hear some actionable tips on how you can create more of a connection with your audience, gain new followers, and also get more interaction with your content too. It's been a while since we've had a guest on the Pelvicpreneur Podcast and this week, we have not 1 but 5 experts here, to share their stories about how finding the full-body approach has helped them personally, their clients, AND their business. Gone are the days when a client comes to us with shoulder pain and we "spot-reduce" their problem by only focussing on the shoulder site itself - the same rule applies to pelvic floor health. We need to look further up the chain for what's causing that downwards pressure onto the pelvic floor, and assess what's hanging below the pelvis too, to help improve gait cycle, foot mechanics and glute strength. Not every expert featured in this episode specialises in pelvic floor rehab, so tune in to hear each of them explain how they came to discover how everything in the body is connected, and what types of clients they're been able to treat, as a result. Pop your earbuds in, take us on a walk, and enjoy!

Did you log into a Zoom group support call for your online course participants only to be met with a blank screen where none of your clients showed up live, and it made you feel pretty crappy? If you want to learn how to avoid the "What if no one shows up?!" scenario in the future, this episode is for you, so pop your ear buds in, take a walk outside, and enjoy!

Things have been busy behind-the-scenes at the Pelvicpreneur Podcast the last few months, and this week, Claire is ready to announce her NEW program to the world! Are you excited to hear more?!
Background: Claire first had the idea for this course for fitness professionals, way back in July 2021 and she's been adding concepts and content to it whilst out on walks, "talk-to-text" style, via the Notes app on her phone. Once she'd mapped out 18 modules and had racked up 8,713 words, she then realised she kind knew what she was talking about here!
This NEW course isn't anything to do with feet, pelvic floor, abdominal separation, pregnancy or postnatal exercise. It isn't related to marketing or social media either, but it IS a little bit business-related.
Why choose the podcast for this announcement? Well, if you like stories, there's plenty of them in this new course, and in fact stories make up pretty much the entire premise of this new offering, and this is why Claire's chosen audio-only format for the content's delivery AND her podcast to make this announcement.
Intrigued? Well, pop your earbuds in, and press play on this week's episode. Enjoy!

Approaching pelvic floor dysfunction from the foot up is a really sensible strategy. Many clients with incontinence, prolapse and pudendal neuralgia really benefit from increasing the mobility in their forefoot because it helps improve their gait, which in turn assists in improving their pelvic floor function too. If you know you should focus more on forefoot mobility, but you're stuck for exercise ideas, or you're unsure which pieces of equipment to use with clients (because some of them seem to be just gimmicks to make us go out and buy shiny new things!), then you're going to love this week's episode. Claire is here to share her top 3 "foot tools" that she uses regularly with clients; why the best way to improve forefoot mobility actually requires no equipment at all (!); and some super useful tips on modifying the use of foot tools from someone who's been there and done it. For the ultimate experience here today, take your shoes off whilst listening and have a play around, or pop your barefoot shoes on and take a nice walk out in nature and enjoy!

Have you ever wondered why some of your pelvic floor dysfunction clients get results from the exercises you diligently set them for homework, whereas other clients progress much slower on their rehab journey? It's super frustrating, isn't it? No matter what you do, what exercises you tweak in their regime, nothing seems to make a difference to their symptoms. And, it all gets a little bit demoralising because your client is looking to you for answers because YOU'RE the pelvic floor expert. In this week's episode, find out how Claire solves that mystery for you by opening your eyes to a number of lifestyle factors that she observes and educates her pelvic floor clients about in order to get them a consistent reduction in their symptoms. In this episode, you'll hear Claire highlight: 1) why lifestyle factors are the missing link for a lot of clients with pelvic floor dysfunction, 2) what the top 10 most important lifestyle factors are that you need in your kit bag as a pelvic floor expert, 3) why exercise alone won't fix pelvic floor dysfunction, and 4) some great real-life examples of Claire's own clients who have benefited from her "less exercise, more movement" approach. Pop your earbuds in, your barefoot shoes on and take a walk in nature for the ultimate in natural movement. Enjoy!

Cue the confetti and open the champagne because this month, Claire is celebrating 7 years of freedom from teaching those traditional pelvic floor exercises called "Kegels"! Invented in the 1940's, Kegels are known as the "go-to" exercise in more industries than you think (not just pelvic floor health), and you might appreciate that it's somewhat hard to go it alone in this sea of Kegels, but Pelvic Floor Expert Claire has managed to do it successfully now for more than half a decade. Join Claire in this honest and candid episode where she highlights 1) why she stopped teaching Kegels and what exercises she prescribes instead, 2) whether she ever regrets making the decision to takes Kegels out of her repertoire, 3) what research exists for and against Kegels (and why it's somewhat contradictory), 4) whether it's appropriate to teach Kegels AND the full-body approach at the same time, 5) what benefits her clients have gained from her non-traditional approach, and 6) finally a truly honest account of some of her experiences of (unsuccessfully) teaching the Kegel in a group exercise setting. Do you want to know if it's possible to help treat clients with pelvic floor dysfunction without prescribing Kegels? Well, tune in to this week's episode to find out!

As a FitPro, do you have a whole host of qualifications that you've never made a return on investment on? Do you freely admit that you're a bit of a serial "course collector", and whilst you LOVE learning new skills, you struggle to turn around a profit after you've passed a qualification? What draws many of us to the health and wellness industry is VARIETY, isn't it? We get to harness our creative side through our lesson planning for example, but it's also incredibly rewarding to serve, work and treat lots of different types of populations, using lots of different types of techniques. But, qualifications themselves don't necessarily keep the lights on and pay the bills, do they? If you'd like to make more money in your business, AND tap into your creative side by serving different populations, one of the easiest ways to do this is by offering niche or specialist classes (like pelvic floor, for example). Claire walks you through, step-by-step what you need to do to make £1,500 on your next niche class, by giving a real-life example of one of her business mentoring clients who's done just this recently! Are you ready to action and to do the same here today? Well, tune in and enjoy!

Ever been puzzled when a really experienced Pilates instructor gets pregnant and then ends up delivering their baby via c-section? Maybe you've never really noticed, or you aren't that observant, but if this question now has you scratching your chin, I guess you'll want to know what exactly is going on here, huh? Let me introduce special guest, Katy Lush! She's a Restorative Exercise Specialist, Gyrotonic Instructor and Pilates Teacher and she's here to share her birth story with us, which involves her first baby delivered by you guessed it -cesarean section, and the second baby -delivered naturally(commonly known as VBAC = Vaginal Birth After C-Section). I've brought Katy onto the podcast to talk about how's she changed the way she teaches Pilates and core-based exercise, what a reflexive core is, cues she no longer uses, emergency c-sections, VBACs, pelvic floor and more! Warning: expect a fairly frank discussion about whether the things we're teaching our pregnant clients in a Pilates setting about pelvic floor, and core and exercise etc are actually helpful or hindering. Intrigued? Well, pop your earbuds in, take us on a walk for the ultimate in natural movement and enjoy!

Ever had a pelvic floor client be told by another expert "Let's wait 6 months, and if your symptoms haven't improved, come back to me" and it's got you thinking that that's somewhat irresponsible behaviour?! Regardless of the condition that say a postnatal client has, simply telling them to WAIT 6 months before lifting their baby in the hope that their symptoms will decrease is NOT really going to help.Worst case scenario here: the client will STOP doing certain movements through fear, or if they do continue to move, they do to accommodate the pain, weakness and dysfunction that's NOT being addressed. Want to learn HOW to teach your pelvic floor clients to move, lift and carry better, and work closely with them to develop strategies to enable them to get closer and closer to lifting and doing other movements, without setting off their symptoms? She's a Doula first and foremost, and she's on a mission to arm her clients with all the education, information, and research they need to make the best choices for them during birth and beyond. Annette Cashell, from @movementmakeovers is on a mission to get children moving more and to get more movement (not PE or exercise!) in schools. Maybe you're a parent yourself. Maybe you're concerned about how educating children via Zoom this past year has affected their posture, their eye sight, their pain levels, and just their overall performance? Maybe you've never actually given much thought though to how the standard education system of making children sit for hours on end inhibits their body's ability to move. Either way, Annette does some amazing work introducing more movement into schools, and as you'll learn to understand, there are huge benefits to making even the teeniest of changes in the current set up of classrooms, to promote better learning, and an overall improvement in the physical and mental health of school aged children. Jenni Hulburt, @jennihulburt is a fitness trainer specialising in helping women sweat in sync with their menstrual cycle and nature. In this interview, Jenni shares a huge array of helpful insight into why it's so important for women to honour their menstrual cycle, the common problems our clients could experience when they're NOT aligned with their monthly bleed, and the signs we, as FitPros, need to look out for to modify clients' workouts. Do you need to batch record a series of exercise videos for clients all in one day?! Jenni advises you, the fitness trainer, on the exact time of the month would be best for you to do so, so you can work WITH your cycle, rather than against it. Like many people who specialise in the period field, Jenni's journey to where she is now, certainly has a personal story attached to it, so be sure to listen in for that. Take a walk, and get out into nature for this episode for the ultimate experience, and enjoy!

Do you believe that because each pelvic floor client is unique, that you have to individualise each clients' exercise program? Are you spending hours each week writing up patient notes, only for your PFD clients to not do the homework you set them? It's super frustrating, isn't it? We often believe that in order to help our pelvic floor clients, we have to deal with "what shows up" and offer a tailored, bespoke exercise program and this isn't necessarily true. In this episode, allow Claire to walk you through the fundamental mistakes you're making with exercise prescription for your 1:1 pelvic floor clients, and how, with some simple tweaks here and there, you can actually save time, get MORE of your clients consistent results, and attract more motivated clients into your business who will do their homework, every single day, without fail!

If pregnancy causes pelvic floor dysfunction, why is it that some postnatal clients experience it, whilst others have zero pelvic floor issues post-birth at all? Have you ever stopped to think about what causes pelvic floor dysfunction in our postnatal clients? Is pregnancy really the culprit here? In this week's episode, Claire reveals why some pre/postnatal experts all too quickly blame the (supposed) postural changes that occur during pregnancy on the incidence of incontinence postpartum, and goes into depth with listing the myriad of factors that can be addressed during pregnancy to help prepare our pregnant clients better for birth, motherhood and beyond. "Pre-hab is better than re-hab", is the common theme throughout this episode, and if you're looking to update your knowledge on what can be done from an education, as well as exercise perspective, to help more pregnant women AVOID postnatal pelvic floor dysfunction, allow Claire to open your eyes and feed your mind. Pop your earbuds in and enjoy!

Today is Time To Talk Day in the UK and it's an opportunity for us to start conversations about mental health, and help end the stigma attached to it. Mental health comes in many forms, and affects us as movement professionals in many many ways. Are we really supposed to stand in front of an audience of people, energising and motivating people with a fake smile on our face, constantly, with no consideration for what's going on in our personal lives? Is it possible to use working out as a form of escapism? Have you, or anyone you know ever been addicted to exercise? Well, in this episode, Claire shares her own personal journey of depression. She showcases what the signs were for her should it ever recur, her top do's and don'ts for dealing with things, and what techniques helped her dig herself out of that black hole. Please note: this story has a happy ending, and it involves travelling along the Trans-Siberian Railway in the depths of winter, as a lone, female traveller. Listen in right to the end for one of the most unbelievable travel stories you'll ever be privy to. Enjoy, because it's totally worth it!

Emilie Rowell aka @thebodydoula is a Doula and pregnancy Yoga expert, and she's here to talk about biomechanics for birth, pregnancy exercise, and antenatal education. What Emilie offers clients is truly unique, because she's been able to create a space in her services where birthing partners are encouraged to have an active role. In this insightful interview, Emilie shares a huge array of helpful information about how incredibly easy it is to set our pregnant clients up for the best birth possible, with just a few simple tweaks here and there to their alignment and movement patterns. We'd all like our pregnant clients to seek us out earlier than they do, and on the topic of "pre-hab over re-hab" Emilie naturally has more than a few words to say. Emilie shares her own journey into the birthing world (which, you guessed it, has a back story to it, which involves some pretty serious pelvic floor issues herself), so listen in towards the end of the interview, because even Claire wasn't prepared for this one. Victoria Cunningham from @stretchbodymind is here to talk about her journey that takes her from teaching a full class timetable of Yoga/Pilates classes, to shutting up shop and going all in with her Teacher Training offerings. Like many people last year, she had to pivot. She said goodbye to her all of her loyal clients and stopped teaching her Yoga/Pilates classes, and went all in with her teacher training offerings. But, there was a catch. None of her qualifications up to 2020 were delivered online, so it was huge learning curve, and it felt a bit like a race against time to not let her already paid up Yoga and Pilates students down: they were expecting in-person training and that's not what Victoria could provide. What Victoria offers her students is something very unique for the industry. And, if you've missed chatting to other colleagues at work, or, you're just desperate to talk shop with someone, view this conversation between Victoria and Claire as 2 passionate colleagues chatting about what life's like as a teacher trainer. Pelvic floor rehab is complex. There are lots of moving parts, several factors to consider, different approaches to take, and many lines of therapy that can help solve the mystery that is pelvic floor dysfunction. Have you ever wondered what an Occupational Therapist does and where they fit in with the puzzle pieces that help clients with pelvic floor dysfunction? Well, allow me to introduce Melissa La Pointe an OT who started out treating everyone and everyone in private practice, and then suffered with pelvic floor dysfunction herself following the birth of her son, which lead down the road to specialising in women's health. She had amazing fun treating pre and postnatal patients, but wanted to serve the OT community in other ways, so she created online programs for OT's, ended up shutting down her clinic, and going all in consulting other OTs to build businesses that work for them, rather than the other way round. An insightful episode where you're privy to 2 peers in pelvic health chatting about hiring team members, building their online businesses, leaving their clients all behind, and now leading a life of coaching and consulting full time. Ever had a client say "My mum has a weak bladder and so do I" and wondered if this is actually genetic, or if there's something else at play here? Were you aware that bunions can attribute to pelvic floor dysfunction? However, just because someone's mother had bunions, doesn't necessarily mean that every daughter that's born to said mother will have bunions too. Yep. In today's episode, Claire is debunking some common pelvic floor myths that are often perceived as genetic and therefore accepted as the norm. Claire aims to have your eyes and ears opened today and will hopefully have you questioning what is genetic, and what's acquired environmentally, culturally and generationally.
