The Fantasy Sports Collective podcast, hosted by JayDubb, brings you a quick overview of the 2022 NBA Finals matchup between the Boston Celtics and the Golden State Warriors. A classic matchup featuring the historical legacy team from Boston versus the recent dynastic squad from the Bay Area.

Featuring the NBA top 2 regular season defenses, these teams run a similar team philosophy, they will match up well. While there are many contrasts to be made there are far more similarities that make the series intriguing and likely destined to be a great matchup.

Welcome to the Fantasy Sports Collective Podcast hosted by JayDubb. This is part 2 of a two-part series examining the lessons and learnings from a champion through interviews with a coach and players more than 25 years later. The interviews were conducted during a reunion of the undefeated Palo Alto high 1993 state champion hoops team this past holiday. I was able to interview coach Weaver (part 1) and nine team members (those that joined the reunion) asking each what lessons they learned and have deployed in their life over the past two decades.

This group is remarkable for nothing more than being a collection of advantaged, hard-working, fortunate to have been born and grown up in such a special place. This team was recognized in the US Congress by US Rep Anna Eshoo for academic and athletic achievement (31-0; average margin of victory was 27 points).

We’ve all gone on to have families, we’re seemingly all fulfilled, doing work we’re proud of, and outstanding role models by being who we are, nothing more and nothing less. What you’ll hear is a collection of the values we learned, the friendships we formed, and the bond we created that no matter how much time has passed, binds us together. I hope you enjoy these quick interviews with members of that team asking them what the experience taught them, what they remember, and how it’s impacted their lives.

I also want to acknowledge those that weren’t able to participate but nonetheless are all important parts of the experience and journey, those are Grant Elliott, Mikey Smith, Boyd Smith, Dave Bennion, Von Sumner, and Ryan Derby. Now that time has passed since the reunion event and I’ve had time to reflect. I’m appreciative and grateful that I had this experience.

Note this was recorded during the holidays, months before COVID-19 had griped us all.

The Fantasy Sports Podcast, hosted by JayDubb. This is part 1 of a 2 part series detailing the lessons learned to be part of a perfect team. The first part is this show with our former coach, a father of a close friend, a mentor, and an educator of many, Richard Weaver.

Life flies by, we find a career path, get married, have kids and before long we’re knee-deep into responsibility. We don’t often take enough time to reflect on the path traveled, appreciate those people who helped shape us into who we are today. Our parents all have a special, obvious place in our journey. But it’s the teachers who often are overlooked. I was fortunate to grow up in an incredible place and time, Palo Alto in the early 1990s. I played on a basketball team that was an undefeated state champion and the man who shaped the chemistry long before our culRichard Weaver was the definition of consistency, wisdom, and quiet confidence. I was fortunate to have an opportunity to sit down with Mr. Weaver, to hear his reflections, 25 years later on what that experience meant to him, some of the backstories and ultimately to thank him for being himself.

JayDubb is joined by long-time sports fanatic friend, McB. This launch podcast is a work in progress, however, expect to see a consistent theme tackling the NBA, NFL and college football’s most pressing topics, and deeper dives into fantasy topics prior to and during their respective seasons.

Episode #1

Topics: Warriors a Dynasty? - 538 suggests they are the best team over any 4 year run in NBA history. Will GS’s dominance continue? Golden State isn’t as young as many think (avg. age 28) but their competitive advantage is they like each other, genuinely enjoy playing together and that could lead to longevity on the run.

LeBron James is now an LA Laker - What does this mean for the NBA, for the Warriors?

College or Pro Fantasy - Which is more interesting? Personal story about how a college football fanatic has been kicked out of his college fantasy league not once but two times.

Pac 12 Preview - Who are the teams and players to watch.
