The Day Social Media Died Podast is BACK!

Join us this week with Aly Korchemniy founder and creator of @afisaskin the single product for making your skin moisturized and glowing. You might have heard about it if you follow Vogue, Elle, GQ, COSMO, or BRIDES magazines.

It's also sold at our favorite store, Anthropologie. Aly caught my eye a few months ago when she threw a fabulous party in Spokane that I followed along with serious FOMO from Instagram.

She shares the story behind why she decided to take her marketing off social media in person and the stir it ended up creating.

What I didn't know going into this interview was the risk she took doing it, how unconnected she was and how little time she gave herself to pull it off. You'll be "sweating through your shirt" as you listen. It inspired me to be more daring and take more risks.

Have you heard? Now you can join BH Marketing School! It's full of online eCourses, specialty topic groups, expert tips and trends and more! It's like having a marketing manager for your business, but at a price you can afford. You can join now for a free 30-day trial and then it's JUST $9.99 / mo after that. I had a call just yesterday with a potential client. It went like many others go when I meet with a small business or entrepreneur who's been engaging in the ecourse culture of marketing. Her circular chitter chatter, deep frustration, angst against investing more money and longing to make the business in her heart work. I had to interrupt her and tell her how normal this was. In the back of my head I wanted to tell her, I just recorded a podcast that's perfect for you. I did this because Hillarie and I know that this topic is so universal now it's common place.

If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms you might be suffering from the effects of Ductaping, Bootstrapping and DIY Marketing Overload:

Marketing insecurity: the feeling that you aren’t totally sure that you have the right plan or tactics to get where you want to go.

Hampster Wheel Effect: If you feel like you’re running and getting nowhere

Sea Sickness: this is often from being tossed by the wind of the next marketing trend

Conversion confusion: when you are doing all the things but not seeing the desired results

In this episode we're going to cover the pro's and con's of this kind of marketing effort, symptoms for knowing when you're in over your heads and antidotes for unraveling yourself from this beast. Don't worry. Everything is going to be ok, listen ahead.

You wouldn't walk into a networking group you've never been to and wave your hands, jump up and down and scream: "I AM SELLING ORGANIC LOTION, COME BUY MY ORGANIC LOTION!"

So much has changed in the last decade and a half when it comes to building business community. Many of you remember the days when you relied on your Chamber of Commerce membership, red-carpet committee ribbon cutting events, and non-proft gala committees to succeed. If you were a young professional in the early 2000's like Becky, you probably went to events like this 7-days a week. You probably had a networking calendar. And it worked, it's why we did it.

Now with social media, and all of these "online communities" and facebook groups we can sit at home in our pajamas drinking wine while we network on the couch. It has many benefits, and a lot of draw backs.

Join us this week with founders of FemCity Violette De Ayala and Cheyenne Dominguez as they share their lessons in building off-line and online community over the last decade. The benefits they see to using social media as an extension of relationship and the cautions they have about using it as a full replacement.

What is FemCity? It's an online and in person network of female entrepreneurs around the globe. Visit the website to find a chapter in your local neighborhood, start one or join the online community. https://femcity.com/

UNICORN: a mythical animal typically represented by a horse with a single straight horn projecting from it’s forehead

UNICORN: something that is highly desirable but difficult to find or obtain.

With all the overnight success stories out there of people who used social media and overnight became celebrity sensations or products who came up with a clever facebook ad and displaced giant industries it's easy to think that you too can do that. We come across these mythical rumors every single day.

The dollar shave club. Birthed out of the idea that people didn't want to pay so much money for razors and they wanted them auto shipped to their home. They turned to social media with a clever ad and a product that understood the market. And $1 million dollars in start-up funds before they ever even made their product.

Join us this week as we identify the core symptoms of believing that your business is a unicorn. Why this is dangerous to your success and how to overcome this sickness and get back on track with your marketing plan.

Building a website is a project that most entrepreneurs survive rather than thrive through. It is a massive investment, requires a lot of decisions to be made, and it requires a great deal of your focus and attention. At the end of the process all you want to do is turn your head away and not go back there again. You promise you'll get around to "optimizing your user experience (UX), but you forget. In fact even though google analytics was installed on the site you haven't taken a look at it once.

We see it all the time. In fact I (Becky) like to play a little game where I randomly choose websites and go on them to figure out if I can find out what they do and how to purchase their services in one minute or less (the national average for time on site) and 90% of the time the website fails. It's the website that does nothing.

Join Becky & Hillarie this week as we unpack what a working website looks like and our practical how-to's for making a website that does it's job.
