I love my life. Becoming a wife/mother has been the absolute second best part of my life. (My faith life is first, sorry, husband and kids.) I have eight kids, yes, EIGHT. And yes, we are Catholic.
People always ask if having a big family has been crazy, chaotic, or difficult. Well, yes, of course. But those things no longer concern me. What concerns me is how every single person in our culture, including myself, my husband and our children, has been tempted away from their best self. Going along with our culture is not living. Nor is it life-giving. I am too old to pretend that I have it all together. I am (finally) too wise to think I can do it all myself.
That’s what “The Parenting Dare” is about: entering into the messy, the nitty, the gritty, and the beautiful. It’s about surrendering what we thought our family life would be like so we could receive the higher gifts that God has prepared for us. Some of those gifts are about becoming and being:
JOYFUL PROACTIVE AUTHENTIC INTENTIONAL ACCEPTING FAITHFUL DARING

I say “US” because my oldest son Eric is my partner on this mission He is the tech side of this whole operation. If you ever hear a voice in the background, it is his.
What surprises me most about this particular kid of mine: he can write. He has an engineering degree AND he can write. Weird, I know. He will guest blog/podcast occasionally, so you can look forward to his unique perspective. Eric is always pushing me out of my comfort zone and he is the one that suggested I move my beloved three-year old blog, “Prayer and Duct Tape” to The Parenting Dare site AND create a podcast to go with it. At first I thought he was delusional. But over time, I realized that playing small (even though it was nice and safe and warm and yummy) was not really serving God in this realm. When I was a young mom, I had the best time making the best food. And when I use the word “best” I mean that we ate A LOT of highly processed “food.”
I eventually realized that my food intake was not playing nice with my moods and emotions and decided to change how I ate.
I researched nutrition. I learned a lot. But guess what? Learning the facts didn’t change my behavior. What finally DID change? Everything. But it came about in a totally unexpected way.

WELCOME to 2021! Yeah! We are going back to podcasting!
AND: Eric and I have big plans for this year in regards to delving deep with parents in the realm of raising strong kids in our culture.
Before we go in that direction, we felt it would be prudent to take a couple of weeks and attend to our inner hearts.
Much has happened in the last eleven months and it is probably necessary to just step back and recalibrate for a moment.
We need to be aligned, inside and out.
It's been a hot minute since I podcasted last.
But lately I've had something on my momma's heart I'd really like to share to your momma heart.

Happy New Year! I absolutely love the first of the year. It’s a time for us moms to sit down and take a moment. What worked last year? Where did we drift? What areas can we improve? No matter where you’ve been, no matter where you are now, you can Create a Beautiful Family Culture.
It's going to be a great year. I feel it in my nuggets.

When my son Eric pushed me to share my "most shameful food moment" with you, I balked at first. I mean, come on, kid. Why share that? But as I prayed (and maybe ranted out loud) about it, I felt almost compelled to share not only the crap with you, but also HOW I was healed and HOW I realized the TRUTH about my BEAUTY!

I know it’s super easy to just live life. Easter is coming up. We have to buy new dresses and ties, or find the old ones that will still work.
We have to plan the Easter dinner; should we go to Mom’s this year or stay home and fly kites in our own backyard?
There are graduations looming. Life. It’s easy to just live there.
HOWEVER, today I invite you to go deeper. Go into Divine Mercy. We have received so many gifts through the Novena of Chaplets to The Divine Mercy, including our daughter, Malaysia. I share that story in full detail on today’s episode.
The Novena begins on Good Friday. It is more than worth your time.
So, I am part of the majority! And, spoiler alert! I want to write a book. In fact, I AM writing a book. The only issue I am having is that ALL I want to do is write my book. I don’t want to write blogs. I don’t want to create presentations. I just.want.to.write.my.book.
It’s become a slight obsession.
Last weekend I was supposed to be in Nebraska, having a nice brunch with my seven sisters and three sisters-in-law, celebrating our mother, Bonnie Kreshel, and her 77 years on this earth. However, a massive snow storm blew through Nebraska, effectively shutting down our plans.

A couple of weeks ago my son Eric asked me to do a podcast on “Parenting Hacks.”
I laughed because for a mom of many, it has been about survival, not about creating clever ways of living.
Yet as I thought more deeply about it, I realized that I had developed a way of thinking about life which had HELPED me survive the hard years of motherhood.

This is the story of my middle child, Matthew, going into Basic Military Training with the Air Force Reserves.
How it came to be, visiting him this past weekend, and my thoughts through it all. Well... so far.

It is like I have been in a love/hate relationship with “bad foods” but I couldn’t seem to break up with them.

So, a child of mine made me a bit crazy the other day.
If she would just follow my way I knew she would have a perfect life.
God used that situation to teach this mama a lesson.
Have you ever wondered how to love and give your heart to others without getting drained?
I struggled to find that balance for years.
Then I sought counsel and was able to structure my inner world in a way that gave me clear boundaries.
I am not exaggerating when I say this changed my life.

We need you, faithful seminarians and priests, to be strong and courageous and AUTHENTIC because we need you to lead the way.
I believe in my Church. I believe in you.
The other day I asked my son Matthew if I could share the story of The Prodigal God with him.
He said yes... It was more like... 'surrre mom'
I think he yawned, too.
After I got done telling him this story, he looked at me and said, “Wow, that was not at all what I expected. Mom, tell your listeners that this story is worth their time.”

This year has been... oh how should I say this... It's been amazing. My relationship with my God has been completely and utterly reinvigorated! My eyes are 51 years old and I need reading glasses to see my phone screen but I have a received new vision in HIM.

Hello there!
I've been Catholic for... ever. But earlier this year I realized that I had a lot of mistrust of God the Father. That troubled me and so I prayed to Jesus, asking Him to show me the Love of His Father.
My prayer was answered BIG-TIME and I am grateful, so very grateful.
I have a hunch that I might not be the only one out there who struggled with this. Please let me know your thoughts!
