This edition of The Bunker Podcast comes in the form of a peak time live set from Doltz, a label artist on DJ Nobu's Bitta imprint who will be performing live at The Bunker x Bitta party in Brooklyn on Friday November 29.When we asked Nobu who else he wanted to bring from the label for this showcase, he immediately suggested Doltz. Doltz started his musical career in 1998 as a drummer in a hardcore punk band, and had a fateful encounter with DJ Nobu, who shares the same musical roots, when they were billed alongside each other at a party in 2022. Impressed by Doltz's live performance, DJ Nobu immediately booked him for his residency party 'reprise' at Womb Tokyo. The two hit it off and began exchanging tracks, with DJ Nobu actively playing out Doltz's tracks while touring across the world and receiving a good response. Doltz's live set at The Bunker will be his US debut!
“For the closing night of Return to the Source at the Interdimensional Transmissions presents The Bunker party, we have a night of unique pairings, back to back sets from people who knew each other mostly, but usually don’t play together. After a full weekend of non stop great music, what better than the drama of the unknown combinations to keep you fully engaged, with deeply curated pairings and flows for each room. On May 27, Mike Servito x @Jeffrey Sfire scheduled from 1am until 3am. Mike Servito always majestically closes out No Way Back, but what would this combination bring? Sfire brought the heat, and their styles melded in a slightly pitched down form, music from all eras appeared. To me, it was a form of sonic bliss. I went and asked the Danny from Bing (who does the sound and built the speakers for the Garden Stage) if he minded if we went later, he was all for it. So were Servito and Sfire, and it just kept getting better and better. The crowd was totally locked in, the feeling was ecstatic, it was truly a beautiful moment. This episode of The Bunker Podcast comes from Brussels’ Fuse resident DJ and label co-curator Altinbas, who has been playing all over Europe lately. Through his excellent Observation Station imprint, and other labels such as Token, Non Series, and of course Fuse, Altinbas has released a ton of great music in a relatively short period of time. Altinbas makes his US debut closing out The Bunker at Good Room this Saturday July 20.
Umboma, is a collaboration between Omar Ahmad and Miss Alicia. Umboma is a project that emphasizes African, Arab and Latin American contemporary rhythms. A combination of Arabic, Swahili and Spanish words, Umboma signifies a Congregation of Freedom & Dance. Umboma do long-form journeys, starting with the experimental and psychedelic, moving into the rhythmic and euphoric. Here they present a studio mix of driving percussive house music in advance of their appearance at The Bunker at Good Room on July 20, 2024.
This edition of The Bunker Podcast comes from Camille Altay (they/them), a visual artist, composer and DJ who lives and works in Climax, New York. Camille spent formative years as a drum and bass dj in the house-heavy rave scene in Chicago in the late 90s. A contrarian in nature, Camille has been known to play genre-bending dj sets with influences ranging from Cumbia to Ghettotech. Camille’s live sets lean toward the spiraling, runaway arpeggiations of synth music in its initial stages of identity crisis - whether to emulate real instruments, or subversively carve a path towards unnamed and evolving shapes of space and identity. In her vision, there is no prevailing preference over the role of producer or DJ - no hierarchical distinction amongst the club’s dancefloor, the acoustic hall or the healing sound bath. This same friend coincidentally took me to my first Bunker party a few months prior & I became a regular attendee from that night onwards for many years.In the early spring of 2015, my collaborative partner and I, collectively known as The Long Count Cycle, were asked to do a podcast mix for The Bunker as well as an invitation to play the party following it’s release. For us, this was monumental and just when we thought things couldn’t get any better, we were invited to play Rural festival and Dommune in Japan that summer based on our mix.One of the artists on the lineup was Wata Igarashi. I was excited for many reasons but also because I now had the opportunity to tell him in person how phenomenal I thought his mix was. We spent quite a bit of time together during that trip and became friends. Additionally, I gained a new perspective on techno seeing how he performed and the sonic palette necessary for creating states of psychedelia and euphoria.In the years following, we would cross paths several times at Nowadays, Good Room & Sustain Release. Each time, I left with a deeper understanding of the music and my place within it. So when I was invited to open for him and the exceptional & exemplary DJ Nobu, there was a visceral sense of validation in being entrusted to set the tone for what was to come that night. I trained the set with performances at Bossa Nova Civic Club with Perfect Party Look Book and at Forest City Lodge with Microtones in Ithaca.Maybe describing this can help you process some live set ideas.My previous approach to delivering this material live (originally at The Long Count Cycle, then at Technically Yeah) was using stems as a bedrock and improvisation on top. Even though this worked fine, it got a bit stale for me and I wanted to be as satisfied as a listener when a groove sets in. So I decided to go fully based on MIDI information and instruments, with an added challenge that my CPU can’t take too much of a load, so I needed to make sure I disabled certain instruments before bringing others in. A disclaimer is that I am not fully endorsing all of the equipment in this list, there are some caveats that I’m happy to discuss.In Ableton I created custom instruments through stock plugins like operator, collision, wavetable - these instruments are divided into ones I cycle through and ones that are constant throughout the set.The constant ones exist in instrument racks and are freely interchangeable through chains - all of the parameters are mapped to the same knobs on my Novation Launch Control XL enabling me to wash through several instruments running varying sounds. I also have stored macro variations for those instruments in case I need some sound immediately without menu diving (like 1/16 note hi hats).The cycled instruments instruments are mostly from my tracks in Amphibious / Aural Spirits that are all controlled by four channels on my Xone K1. Initially I tried using Tip by K-Devices and Map-8 to disable a swath of devices (thanks One Child Policy for the tip!). Yet I found that the CPU load was comparable with just leaving the devices on and simply stopping clips. This made for a much better workflow.I slowly progress through the cycled instruments while improvising with the constant instruments and the main drums / accenting discussed below.My iPad is running Werkbench by Karl Scholz @karlalamusic, a sequencer sampler app that can easily form interesting polyrhythms and is great for anything sample-related, like live accenting, bass lines, drums, etc.For the main drums I didn’t want to be too focused on sequencing as it takes up a lot of time, so I just wanted to scroll through patterns that I generate beforehand. I opted to use a modified version of Instant Haus by @alexkid which stores drum patterns for four-five instruments. Modifying this was a bit challenging as it is difficult to determine what kind of patterns I think can stay interesting over an hour time period. This is playing Smackos 808 Simulator by @legowelt-official as well as other custom drum instruments.For acid lines I am using a Roland TB03 on lend from Indy Nyles and sequencing the 303 with Sting by Iftah Gabbai as well as his Microtuner device coupled with note echos (I believe this is the most CPU intensive part of the set).I am using Ableton Push as a means to do miscellaneous control and Jaw Harp / Mic for some added organic-ness.I am running all of this through an Apollo Twin Duo and Allen & Heath Xone 96 at the club.

artist statement from Sister Zo:My sound has evolved a lot over the past year living in New York. While I feel everyone knows me primarily for my percussive broken beat productions and sets, anyone who's seen me play recently will know I've been leaning heavily into driving psychedelic techno and hard groove house. So I wanted to make something that reflects my evolving tastes.In that sense this mix is very much a statement of range and intention. I'll always love UK Bass and broken beat stuff but there's nothing like a good deep grooving wormhole to lose yourself in as a DJ and a dancer.Also, having been heavily involved in plant medicine this past year I've been making an effort to incorporate sounds that connect with my experiences in ceremony—sometimes light and joyous, often dark, cavernous and all-consuming. This was Nihal's first time playing in public since before the pandemic.
Artist Statement:
I don’t think it’s a stretch for me to say that I really enjoy making mixes. I like challenging myself while exploring different sounds and rhythms and mixes give me a chance to play around without the added pressure of the dance floor. Context is key and in this regard, I always try to take into the consideration the environment the mixes are consumed by the listener. So I tend to make more headier mixes due to them probably being listened to at home or maybe work. I started this one out coming in a little “hot” before getting into the headier bits about a third of the way in. I did this because I wanted the momentum to carry though the headier section of the mix before bringing it slightly up again. I feel it helps the listener stay focused and engaged to the very end.

Davide Gualandi grew up in Italy. He played in some bad hardcore bands in the 90s and wrote for some fairly respected music magazines in the 2000s. He DJs noisy psychedelic music and supports the weirdos who populate the NYC scene.
About the mix: "My midlife crisis brought me to the inevitable purchase of a rotary mixer. Since I'm bad at mixing anyway, I bought a MasterSounds Radius 4, which just features an hi-pass filter on each channel instead of the usual EQs. I wanted to make a dance mix for a long time, but it's taking me a bit to learn how to DJ on this thing. Maybe I'll sell it and buy a Pioneer. Anyway, the mix is made of a lot of unreleased tracks that friends have sent me, plus some classics on Djax-Up-Beats, Viewlexx and L.I.E.S. I tend to open nights or play "yurt sets", so I took unusual and weird tracks and tried to make it dancey for the party that initiated me to techno." - Davide
HE VALENCIA is an Indiana midwest based dj, producer, cultural theorist and techno historian who has been active in North American techno since 2010, hotly tipped by the likes of DJ Stingray, Jamal Moss & Carlos Souffront. He contributes to the long legacy of black midwest techno by exploring the many permeations and intersections of techno and other electronic dance music.
artist statement: "this particular mix is a direct reflection of my position geographically and sonically, being located between the legacies of Chicago and Detroit. i consider myself a student of the game and always want my sets to reflect the energy of being able to navigate between many different styles of techno or house. Part of this mix is an amalgamation of records that i've been playing throughout the past few years touring and learning about who i am as a dj and finally hitting a point of fluidity to express myself sonically. artist statement: "Music has maybe been the only enjoyable escape for me during the pandemic, and my relationship to it has taken on a new shape given that I only listen at home alone, mainly on headphones, and at odd hours. So this is more of a 'mega mix’ style studio session, with lots of layering, edits, and quick transitions. When we asked Marco Shuttle if he wanted to podcast an excerpt of his all night set from The Bunker LTD at Public Records in February, he responded that he really wanted to publish the whole set start to finish. So here you have it, nearly 6 hours of Marco playing to a very intimate dancefloor in Brooklyn. This set is quite a bit different than what you might normally hear him play at a big techno club or festival, and we're thrilled to present this side of Marco's sound.

Eric Cloutier shares the inspiration for this mix: "It's impossible to fully describe the importance of Theorem in my life. Upon first hearing the “Nano” album I was immediately sold on his sound. Moving artfully between psychedelic, dub and chill varietals of techno, the picture he painted on this full length on Plus8 blew my mind…and honestly still does. Fast forward to the “Mantra One” EP, and I knew this wasn’t a fluke but a revolution of a genre. Almost like clockwork, singles on a sub label of M_nus started dropping; I was indoctrinated in to Theorem's sound 100% at this point. Beautiful, patient, delicate, unique, and timeless - Theorem’s records, both solo and with a handful of equally amazing friends, such as Stewart Walker, Sutekh, and Swayzak, are at once undefinable and unquestionably from one defining point in electronic music history. I’ve been fortunate enough to stay friends with Theorem for well over a decade, and he’s blessed me with a trove of unreleased transmissions I’ve never felt comfortable putting to a recording until now. Without this music I honestly don’t know where my techno life would have taken me, but I am forever indebted to Theorem for what he unintentionally did to a random connoisseur back home in Detroit.

Taylor Bratches is a DJ, producer and writer based in New York. She curates the mix series Walking and Falling, an appendage of the Chicago-based DJ mentorship program for female and non-binary artists. As a lifelong poet and dancer, her relationship to rhythm is intimate and ever-evolving. Heavily influenced by artists like Erika, Patrick Russell, Eris Drew, Sassmouth, Abby Echiverri and Derek Plaslaiko, her sets aim to fuse genres and to move people physically and spiritually, creating an experience that is both terrestrial and extraterrestrial. She has an upcoming release on Enmossed and writes for Resident Advisor.
artist statement: "This mix features selected tracks from Skee Mask, Somatic Responses, Objekt, Sam KDC, Yaleesa Hall, revlux, Alonzo, and others. It was made in ecstatic joy - I was jumping up and down and dancing in front of my CDJs while mixing. I improvised it in one take and lead with my intuition. Then I listened to it back and started to wonder: is it too intense? Too challenging? Too weird/psychotic? Too psychedelic? Too imperfect? Too emotional? Too dance-oriented? Too hybrid? Anthony Rother is a stone cold electronic music legend. He’s put out 20 albums since his debut in 1997, and run the Psi49net and Datapunk imprints, which have more or less defined the electro genre. Lately, he’s been back with a vengeance, releasing the “3L3C7RO COMMANDO” LP on his own label, as well as EPs for DVS1’s Mistress Recordings and of course Danny Daze’s Omnidisc. His DJ sets these days are comprised of his own unreleased music specifically tailored for dancefloors. Rother is a dream booking for The Bunker who we still kind of can’t believe is coming to play our collaborative party with Omnidisc on November 1 (more details at http://bit.ly/omnibunker ).

artist statement: "Performed live for the Mystery Zone party at Poor Boys in NOLA. The first 42 minutes of this are completely improvised live, meaning that there were no stored sequences or pre-recorded audio. Just a small 6u eurorack modular, a DSI Tempest with a couple kits to choose from, and an iPad to handle sync, simple looping, and mixing. I've been playing all of my free form sets like this (minus the Tempest) for a while now, but I hadn't played for an actual dance floor in probably more than a year. I had just flown back from New York where I played one of those free sets at Wonderville in Brooklyn (go check it out on my bandcamp!), and had about 3 days to get this together. I had cheerfully assumed that I could just toss the Tempest in there, crank it up, and practice for a few days, but that wasn't the case. It took me the whole 3 days to sort out how to technically integrate the Tempest into the iPad setup so I got maybe an hour of practice with everything working on the day of the event. I showed up at the event more nervous than I've ever been at a gig, but somehow managed to reasonably pull it off. I did eventually chicken out and play some sequences I had in the Tempest from ages ago. Those start at around the 42 min mark."

artist statement: "This mix was crafted on two XDJ-1000s and an Allen & Heath mixer in one take. It's sort of a snapshot of where I'm at as a DJ these days, and contains a lot of music I'd play in the club and some I wouldn't. It's not techno, but it's not not-techno. It's not drum'n'bass, but it's not not-drum'n'bass, either. What really interests me is music that's slippery and difficult to define and exists in multiple spaces at once, and that's pretty much what I consider all of these tunes to be. Perhaps the best way to summarize it is in the immortal words of Uwe Schmidt aka Atom™ aka Fonosandwich:

The Bunker Podcast was started back in 2007 when barely any electronic music podcasts existed if you can imagine such a thing. This was pre-Soundcloud when file hosting was expensive and most people didn't understand how to publish an RSS feed, and portable digital recorder technology wasn't that advanced yet. In the early days, the podcast was made up entirely of sets recorded at The Bunker parties. At some point artists went from being super excited that we wanted to put their sets online and knew how to do it, to being really squeamish about putting out "imperfect" sets recorded in a live context. So we more or less took some years off from podcasting sets. In recent years, we started releasing sets that weren't necessarily recorded at the party and the podcast picked up steam again. In any case, it's nice that The Bunker Podcast 200 is actually a recording from a party, and even nicer that it's brought to you by our long term resident DJ, Derek Plaslaiko.
artist statement: "This was recorded at a party thrown by the crew at WYA Chicago in early August, 2019. The party itself was incredible! Great sound in a perfect sized room filled with people that were completely going off! Can’t really ask for much more than that. I wanted this to be a Bunker Podcast because I think it’s a great example of how I strive to play every time. This one is a 3 hour long “storytelling” set covering house and techno and everything that falls between. Mostly new tracks with a few classics peppered in to push the buttons on a few of my friends who came out. I hope you enjoy listening to it, as I sure as hell had fun recording it."
After decades of a friendship birthed in Detroit and many gigs together, Magda and Mike Servito took their "Highkicks and Necksnaps" party on a North American tour this June. Their busy schedule took them to seven different cities in ten nights. This is a recording of them playing together on the final night of the tour at Good Room in Brooklyn.
We've been wanting a podcast from midwest techno legend Noncompliant (@noncompliant1) for quite some time and are excited that it's finally come to fruition. After playing out steadily in the midwest since the 90's under the name DJ Shiva, she began putting out records as Noncompliant a few years ago and finally got the well deserved worldwide recognition as the dance floor slayer that she had always been.

But, for some reason, I just plugged in and went with my gut on this one - a live session of what turned out to be 37 gems (including a french hardcore breaks tune by Alec Empire and a beautiful oddity to end it all by Dubtractor). In the last year we have been flying to each other cities a couple of times, having long and intense studio sessions and now we are in the final stage of finishing an album. We're also planning to take this music live for the next year(s), so loads of work are taking place. The last few months I have been doing a lot of research on the production side of things and somewhat re-educated myself and now all the gathered knowledge comes out. It's a great feeling to see a lot of pieces of the puzzle come together, so all I can say is that I can't wait to release this project and share it with the world! Christina Chatfield will be joining us at The Bunker at Market Hotel on Saturday, April 13th to play one of her unique and captivating live sets. We're excited to finally have a podcast of her all-original music because she has been a friend and ally of The Bunker New York for many years, playing at our events in New York and showcases in San Francisco. She is a resident for As You Like It in San Francisco, has released on Sassmouth’s God Particle and we're all eagerly awaiting her forthcoming album on Mysteries of the Deep.
Acronym has been releasing some of the best techno, dub and ambient music in recent memory, with three albums, over a dozen EPs, and a handful of collaborations out since 2012. A Swedish artist closely affiliated with Abdullah Rashim, most of his early work came out on the Northern Electronics label, but he’s now releasing via his own imprint, Stilla Ton. Throughout a career spanning almost a decade, Berlin-based Romanian producer and DJ Cosmin TRG has released music with Hessle Audio, Hemlock, Running Back, Rush Hour and 50Weapons. His latest is an ambient album entitled "Hope This Finds You Well" (available on bandcamp: cosmintrg.bandcamp.com/album/hope-th…inds-you-well).
He tells us: "this mix is a collection of tracks I’ve come across recently that perked my ear. Traditionally, when putting together a mix I used tracks like building blocks that follows a certain narrative. Recently though, I’m much more excited about the relationship between very unique-sounding, individual tracks regardless of BPM, genre and other made-up boundaries. In the end you still get a narrative, but a non-linear one, rather a story that keeps unfolding. Hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed putting it together!"

Nihar has been DJing and producing original music as part of the bay area electronic music scene for more than a decade. He’s been a resident of a number of legendary San Francisco DJ crews including Surface Tension, Warm Leatherette and Haçeteria. He recently founded T.V.O.D., an event series that he curates alongside Jason Polastri and the Creatrix. He’s also an affiliate of the East Bay’s renowned Club Chai collective.
Nihar is known for high intensity DJ sets that draw from an eclectic blend of global rhythmic influences and elements. As a producer, he infuses his studio work and live performances with this same sensibility. Nihar’s first full length album, Chrysalis, was released in July 2018 on Jacktone Records. His next release is coming on NYC’s Primitive Languages label later in 2019.
Nihar is also the co-label head (with Chris Zaldua) of Left Hand Path, which has been featured in The Wire, Resident Advisor, Fact Magazine and in other publications for it’s incredible track record of releases. Left Hand Path has a string of records coming in 2019, some of which are featured in this mix.

Berlin-based Darwin is a resident at Griessmuehle and runs the REEF parties, which have taken up residency in Mexcio city for winter at YuYu club. A.Arias is one of New York's premier after hours djs, spinning house, techno, and ambient. He's been digging since he was 17, and started attending The Bunker at age 19 (sorry, Pop). He's worked everywhere from Halcyon to Brooklyn Phono, and runs the Strobelight Network label. Aimée Portioli, also known as Grand River, is a Dutch-Italian composer, poly-instrumentalist producer based in Berlin. While mainly connected to the fields of electronic music and sound design, her compositions transcend these genres. Her work is known equally for her film scores as for her experimental and ambient projects. Influenced by classical minimal music Grand River’s work integrates a large variety of sound structures and symphonic calculations, often blurring the lines between traditional composition and research-based modernism. Aimée also runs the record label One Instrument.
We were first introduced to Aimee's music by The Bunker NY recording artists Voices From The Lake, and got to meet her in Berlin and play after her brilliant warm up set at Tresor!

Michael Brunner is a Philadelphia-based DJ, and a core member of the city's 1694 collective. His current work tends toward the ambient and the experimental, which 1694 showcases in their monthly A/V salon event, Curious Dream. Brunner came up as a jungle DJ in the mid-90s in Chicago, and dove headfirst into the explosion of largely UK-based bass music in the early 2000s. Those new inspirations colored his sound, and this mix is a reflection on a deep and abiding love for the bass and the break.

As part of the iconic Chicago SJC Crew (Strictly Jungle Chicago), Ry-N has been a long time fixture on the midwest drum and bass scene. He made his mark as a DJ in the mid 90’s at DUBSHACK’s legendary BROCKOUT events and as a resident on The Strictly Jungle radio show alongside DJ Snuggles, Slak, 3D and Casper. From there he went on to a residency at Chicago’s famed Crobar nightclub and made frequent appearances at Smartbar, Metro, Bass By The Pound, Ripe Productions and Drop Bass’s Even Furthur events. In the early 2000s he ran Canvas Recordings and released tracks by Optical, Ed Rush, Ram Trilogy, KC, Klute and Marcus Intalex. 2018 sees Ry-N newly re-energized into both DJ and production. He's currently collaborating on music and DJ sets with Hiroko Yamamura. For this mix he peers into the influence that techno has had on drum and bass music, exploring the psychedelic and darker sides of the genre today.

Berlin-based DJ Esther Duijn recorded this set at Pornceptual in Berlin over the summer and the dark sound brings a serious late night vibe to the forefront. She is a busy touring DJ who has released records on labels that include Fred P's Soul People Music and her own imprint, Another Earth. Esther just released a new EP on Dubai's KitchenSync Records and has a vinyl-only release coming out on Another Earth in September, featuring tracks from Dave Simon and Anders Ilar & John H.
This mix is an exploration of releases from 1995 on the Fax label recorded at a private gathering in Kentucky. Rob Theakston is a name that may not be familiar to most of you, but will be instantly recognizable to anyone involved in the 90s Detroit techno scene, where he was a key antagonist and DJ. He worked at Planet E 1998-2000, Ghostly during the first few years, and had residencies with Recloose at Motor Lounge and Necto in Ann Arbor with Matt Dear and Sam Valenti. He released two EPs as Circuitry for Acoustic Division, including remixes from The Bunker's own Derek Plaslaiko and Patrick Russell. He's currently in a techno retirement of sorts in Kentucky, where he is the editor of Drinkhacker.com, and definitely knows more about whiskey than anyone you know.
Tempered by years of sweat in the US rave and club circuit, Paul Fleetwood has steadily built a reputation as a DJ who explores the shuffling grooves of techno, electro, acid and beyond.
He currently resides in Denver but is originally from Pittsburgh, where he is a co-founder and resident of world renowned weekly party Hot Mass.
As a DJ he connects the dots between deep, propulsive techno, trippy experimental rhythms and intergalactic synth led electro jams. His approach to selecting and mixing has featured in online mixes for Buttons, Silent Season, Mysteries of the Deep, Doc Sleep's Jacktone Radio, and now The Bunker NYC.
Fleetwood has played to audiences across the Midwest predominantly at DIY parties but also in clubs such as Chicago's Smartbar, Detroit's Tangent Gallery, Washington DC's Flash, and further afield at Berlin's Griessmuehle and ://about blank. Wherever he plays, he utilizes his lifelong musical curatorial ear and penchant for fanatical record digging to bring fervor to dancefloors across the world.
Abby Echiverri has extensive history as a musician, sound engineer, DJ and VJ. Her current trajectory started early in childhood when she was classically trained in violin, flute, piano and vocals, cementing music as a part of her daily life. In high school she picked up turntables and began collecting records, eventually moving to NYC to study recording engineering and perform in post-punk bands, and became a regular at Wierd and The Bunker at a very young age. Since then, Echiverri has devoted her professional hours to engineering, maintaining, and manufacturing audio equipment for studios and clubs around the world. Her debut record 'Ab Initio' is currently out on The Bunker New York's label and can be purchased on our bandcamp (https://thebunkerny.bandcamp.com/album/ab-initio-ep-the-bunker-new-york-032) This set features a lot of flanged synths, analog drums, and processed samples. It was composed and rehearsed over a few days and then recorded in one take at her home in Queens.
Danny Daze is one of our favorite DJs and is the founder of the always-excellent Omnidisc label. He's constantly surprising us with deep cuts combined in unique ways that really get a dance floor going. Danny grew up steeped in Miami’s B-boy culture, classic electro & Miami bass and developed a love for the experimental Dutch electro & Detroit Techno scenes of the 90’s, labels like Schematic in Miami, Interdimensional Transmissions from Detroit & Viewlexx out of The Hague. We're so excited that he took some time out from his crazy non-stop schedule of gigs to create this podcast to give us a taste of what to expect when he plays The Bunker Pride this coming Friday, June 29th at Elsewhere in Brooklyn. Pure Immanence is the DJ duo of Nick Bazzano and Kiddo Sincere. They are residents with New York underground queer rave collective Unter, and hold a popular eponymous Wednesday night residency at Bossa Nova Civic Club that will celebrate its two-year anniversary this July. This set was performed and recorded live at Sustain-Release 2017 around a campfire in the forest during a misty sunrise from 5am to 10am on Saturday morning. Pure Immanence will perform at The Bunker Pride on June 29 at Elsewhere in a chill-out room collaboration with residents from Hypnotic Spa.
A lifelong musician and composer, NYC-based Auspex deals in dark, metallic sounds and dance floors driven to bedlam. He plays regularly in Brooklyn's underground scene, including Unter, Bound, Lost Soul Enterprises and Aphotic and he has recently launched his own event series entitled Dominion, dedicated to the darker side of techno with an open-minded sensibility. Løt.te tells us: "Topically, the mix is inspired by the Amazon rainforest and the ‘uncontacted’ peoples who still inhabit it. Technically, I was trying to merge influences from filmmaking with the patterns and techniques of a DJ mix. So you’ll hear a lot of ‘cuts’ in addition to smooth transitions between tracks, as well as manipulations and layering of audio to create a sense of environment, space and time. My goal was to explore new ways of making a DJ mix, and to create an evocative and transportive experience for the listener.

There are few musicians who manage to explore the convergence between techno and experimental as successfully as David Letellier. Known as Kangding Ray, he has been producing for almost a decade, releasing his music exclusively on Raster-Noton and Stroboscopic Artefacts. The aesthetic domains of these two labels epitomizes Kangding Ray’s complex sound—it’s an aesthetic that tests boundaries, evolving tirelessly in its exploration of texture, rhythm, and sound design. Letellier’s foundations in rock and musique concrete give his music a vitality and uniqueness that has won fans the world over, from discerning avant-garde–electronica listeners, all the way to devoted clubbers.

When it comes to new music from Ulysses, you never know what you're going to get. His career has spanned genres from techno and house to experimental and disco, with every release delivering an exciting musical surprise. An essential pioneer of the late-‘90s electro scene in New York, Ulysses threw some of the biggest large-scale electro parties with legends such as Alexander Robotnick and Arthur Baker, as well as stars like I-f, Adult, and Miss Kittin and the Hacker. Over the span of his eclectic discography, this Brooklyn-based DJ and music producer has collaborated with Thugfucker’s Holmar Filipsson as Filipsson & Ulysses as well as with John Selway in the prolific Neurotic Drum Band. We've released two of his EPs on The Bunker New York label and this latest podcast includes his track from our 15 Years of The Bunker New York anniversary compilation as well as a treasure trove of unreleased Ulysses tracks.

Born and raised in Mumbai, @Chhabb represents an early generation of DJ's in India, spending countless hours searching for music that has emotion and allows travel into unknown dimensions. He has been a big contributor to the experimental electronic movement in India, producing events and playing out nearly every weekend. Brothers Karl and Ken Meier grew up in the 90s in Chicago where they experienced the storied peak of midwest rave culture. This collaborative mix, recorded live for a radio broadcast, highlights their skill as DJs in this tradition. Karl has long been working on the fringes of electronic music and each record he makes is well worth owning. His first project, "The Great Traitor" on Remnant, only hinted at what was to come—his current project, Talker (with Jon Krohn), has several records on seminal UK imprint Downwards, and just last week the duo released a remix EP on their new label Standards & Practices, featuring mixes from Surgeon, Regis, and Broken English Club.

There are a select few DJs who can go deep while spanning genres and eras - still keeping the flow and the floor intact. It's rare that David Siska doesn't play a set that is a tribute to his time deeply involved in Chicago's sweat-drenched loft parties and burgeoning techno club scene, and his devotion to the sounds of Detroit and its most diverse DJs. On Saturday December 1, 2007, a snowy night in Detroit, Interdimensional Transmissions thew a party called No Way Back. We had no idea how people would react, we just felt the scene needed this. The space was unfinished, and as the snow storm outside escalated the heat inside from the crowd began to melt the snow on the raw roof, making in literally rain on the dance floor. The party didn't end until around 5PM.
This inaugural No Way Back is known as "the original truth in advertising leaky warehouse NWB" and this set from BMG is the only recording from this legendary party. Recorded at 3AM, after Patrick Russell and before Derek Plaslaiko, this set is receiving its first proper airing to prime us all for The Bunker & I.T. present No Way Back 10 Year Anniversary - New York Edition which will take place in Brooklyn on November 4th, 2017. Steffen tells us: "I am not able to record a techno mix without an actual club/open air situation around me. It's impossible for me to get into a techno mood when I'm in the studio and by myself. So this is a live recording - from a place where the booth feels as comfortable as my own bed. and that says a lot cause i like nothing more than sleeping :)"

From Connecticut to New York and now passing onto the Netherlands, until recently Jen Orlando organized parties with friends and fellow DJs Maroje T and Anna Waluk under Brooklyn-based events collective Remedy. Influenced by both classical and contemporary sounds as well as the art of storytelling and spoken word, her style combines lush melodies and dense rhythms with the abstract in cerebral and emotive sets for various contexts, from the dance floor to yoga flows. Eris Drew is a mixer, song writer, keyboardist and vocalist from the Prairie State. She is also Hugo Ball's co-founder and Smart Bar's resident Mother Beat medium. Drew's one-woman bopping live synth act is her personal trans femme travel log. This continuous mix of beats for your jeep is inspired by events, real and surreal, which transpired this year in Detroit during Movement weekend at The Bunker @Tangent Gallery and Club Toilet. I could not have been more thrilled when Jasper Wolff and Maarten Mittendorff, residents of Amsterdam's legendary De School, asked Derek Plaslaiko and I to play their night. One of their tracks "Trica" had been in constant rotation for me since its release but I knew little else about them. Both Derek and I were completely blown away by the opening set they played at De School; we could not have asked for a better intro to perfectly set the stage for what turned out to be one of our favorite nights all year. I immediately asked them to record a podcast for The Bunker and they responded with this special mix that features unreleased goodies from their studio and upcoming releases on their Indigo Aera imprint. - Bryan Kasenic
Since 1990 Placid has been spinning the platters that matter, legendary for his sets of purest 303-drenched acid and his reputation as 'The DJ's DJ'. Resident on Dj International radio and at London's monthly acid house night I Love Acid, Placid's gigging biography has taken him to Detroit, New York, Berlin, France, Spain and Holland as well as Glastonbury and BLOC music festivals. Reputed to be owner of one of the world's most encompassing collections of Acid House, Placid is a walking acid-house encyclopaedia who can always be trusted to dig deep into his records crate to bring you a pure vinyl set of the absolute best of Acid House, Detroit Techno, Retro Electro and Chicago House.
He tells us that this mix, recorded at home, is more for the head than the feet...but we found our feet moving nonetheless.
Based in Mumbai, India, Bhish is the owner of Regenerate, one of India's premier underground electronic music production companies. An independent promoter, agent, musician and DJ, he is also a partner of the newly founded BLEEP project. He has played at some of Berlin's best clubs including Golden Gate, Ipse, Suicide Circus, Ritter Butzke, Brigit & Bier as well as most clubs in India that currently support House/Acid/Techno. Bhish also co-hosts Regenerate's radio show on FB live called ‘The Box’ whose aim is to promote electronic music artists, frequently featuring guests from the local and international scene. Along with fellow producer CHHABB, Bhish plans to launch his very own label, Elefant Audio, later this year.

The Bunker Podcast 143 is a liveset of new material from Heartthrob, a long-time friend who first played The Bunker at subTonic in 2005. Since then, he's graced our decks a number of times, released music on labels such as Minus, BPitch, Ghostly and Hot Creations and moved from New York to Paris to Berlin. In 2013, he started his own imprint, ISNISNT, which is releasing a record by our label artist Justin Cudmore later this year.
Brooklyn-based DJ and producer Antenes has been a regular on Bunker line-ups for the past decade, playing both ambient and dancefloor sets as well as live. With a record on LIES and a forthcoming release on The Bunker New York, Antenes tells us that all of the tracks on this podcast: "are very personal and based on a space of time and experiences where I have had a chance to connect with people at all different moods and hours...When I produce or play live I usually have a specific concept for each track or piece, but my relationship to DJ-ing is that of an audio journal and marking of a time period; unbound, emotional and without any constraints. I wanted this mix to go through the different moods I experience on a typical day, especially on a weekend that I perform... some of it is dark and foreboding , but it has a hopeful ending . More than one track I've cried tears of joy playing out . So there is a lot of gratitude in this mix too. Starts out at night, but chases the light."

Asyl Cahier is a Tokyo-based DJ who also hosts a series of events entitled LSI Dream. While he was born in Japan, it was moving to New York that led him to explore music more deeply and begin to DJ. There he was influenced by, and had the chance to play alongside, house luminaries like Fred P, DJ Qu, and Baaz. There he also fell in love with the beauty of techno music and discovered more abstract sounds. When DJing Asyl seeks to fuse together these different influences, open to experimenting without ever losing sight of the dancefloor, with a consistent groove grounding his sets. His considered approach has established him as a name to watch in the Tokyo scene, and he has supported many international acts, including Shed, Svreca, Powell, Lena Willikens, Mosca and the Giegling crew.

For our 136th podcast, mysterious producer Nihiti surprised us with this mix comprised of some original productions and techno classics layered with mostly 90s hip-hop. Nihiti told us: "The idea was kicking around in our heads for years - we wanted to see what it would sound like to marry mystical techno vibes with the masterfully desolate urban poetry that emerged from New York City in the early 90s (and still has not, to our minds, been topped). It was apparent that this was a great idea after the first few edits, and from there we proceeded to make more and more edits and eventually some originals as well. It's been 20 years since most of these words were penned and it is somewhat unfortunate that the anti-authoritarian message inherent in these lyrics is as powerful and relevant in 2016 as it ever was."

In anticipation of Atom™ and Tobias' tour of the US over the next two weekends (July 29 - Stereo Montreal, July 30 - The Bunker New York, August 5 - Surface Tension SF, and August 6 - Lunar Lodge Colorado), we dug up this set, recorded at The Bunker New York showcase at Anthology at The Works in Detroit on May 25, 2015. This set was recorded live in a marathon session at Forma's Hutong Hotel in Beijing in 2015, before a string of live dates including a show at Dada in Beijing and The Shelter in Shanghai. This was Forma at the height of performing the kind of material they released on their "Cool Haptics" EP for The Bunker New York in 2014. released today in celebration of Chinese New Year.
DJ Nobu has long been Japan's best kept secret, but lately it feels like the cat is well out of the bag as his global touring schedule fills up for 2016. Nobu has been producing the legendary Future Terror parties in Japan since 2001 and launched his Bitta label in 2012. More than anything though, he is known for his completely unpredictable yet always mind-melting DJ sets. We were totally floored by both his prime-time set at The Bunker in Tokyo and his opening set at The Bunker in Osaka in September, 2015. He will be playing the closing set of The Bunker NY takeover of Berghain in February, making his North American debut at The Bunker in Brooklyn in March, in addition to playing alongside The Bunker resident Eric Cloutier at Smart Bar in Chicago. Few DJs demonstrate the depth of vision that seems to come naturally to Nobu.

The Bunker Podcast 100 is a collaboration between Derek Plaslaiko and Mike Servito, recorded live at The Bunker Limited at Trans Pecos on July 3, 2015, 11:59pm to 9:00am.
Recorded in The Panther Room at The Bunker and Wrecked's Gay Pride party on June 27, 2015. The room was opened by Mike Servito and closed by Aaron Clark Price of Honcho. Mike Servito had this to say about The Black Madonna's set: "I must say I have not seem someone command a room quite like that in some time. people losing their fucking minds! she served and beat us silly! she is inspiring us awwwwl!". to which she responded: " I have to say I think it was basically my favorite time I ever DJed and so much of it had to do with how great Mike Servito was and the state the room was in when he did his thing. It was just perfect." Yeah, it was basically one big love fest in the booth and on the floor. As TBM says: You're damn right we still believe!!!
The first time we'd ever heard of Carlos Souffront was in 2006, when Derek Plaslaiko was encouraging us to book him for our first 3/03 acid party (alongside Mark Verbos). Derek would not shut up about a party in Detroit where Carlos just played Aphex Twin (and his many aliases) vinyl all night long and demolished the place. So it only followed that we should invite him to play an all acid set on 3/03. Carlos of course was phenomenal that night and has been a regular guest at The Bunker ever since. Earlier this year, when Aphex Twin began uploading a seemingly endless stream of unreleased tracks to Soundcloud, it was Derek once again who called us and said: you HAVE to ask Carlos do a mix of this stuff for The Bunker Podcast. Carlos obliged and did this mix for us live in one take (after a surprise practice session on RBMA radio). Enjoy!

This set was recorded live at The Bunker at Public Assembly on August 3, 2012. Pittsburgh Track Authority drove from Pittsburgh in a car packed to the brim with gear and filled up the entire stage with all live hardware their set-up. Their live sets are quite rare in general, and this was their first and (so far) only live gig outside the city of Pittsburgh. As you can hear, they absolutely murdered the place. They've since put out a bunch more records and will be self-releasing their debut album this year.
