My conversation this week with Daniella Moyles is one that will stay with me. Daniella is a former model, radio DJ and presenter who didn't take her foot off the pedal for close to a decade, resulting in a period of intense physical and mental anxiety and burnout. When she realised her life needed to change, she took time out to jump into the new: A life of yoga teacher training, psychotherapy training and, eventually, motherhood. She wrote her memoir, which is called Jump, about the experience, and now as a mam to three-year-old Sonny, she's living a quiet rural village life and making sure to fill her own cup, as she has what she described herself as "a visceral reminder" of what happens when she doesn't. Daniella's story is so interesting, and how she describes living with panic and anxiety is so real, I think anyone listening who's gone through similar will relate. We talk about how the 'village' isn't really there and how society has let down mothers in particular, how sometimes the anger inside you can take over and make you need to go punch a pillow, and on that, regardless of how you feel, every feeling is valid and is your body or your mind alerting you to something you need to know. Daniella has taken all of her learnings and experience and has created The STLL, an online platform which helps people to slow down, tune in and focus on self-development. This is a truly fascinating listen for what is the final episode of Season 16, Thank you so much for all your support, messages and kindness this season. I'll be back in few weeks time with more amazing guests for Season 17.

This week, I spoke to the fascinating and passionate Claire Quigley Ward, a UK-based certified ADHD coach. Claire is also host of the All Aboard ADHD podcast, she's a Microsoft Accessibility Champion, and the founder of an organisation called ADHD Winchester, which supports those in her city who want to know more or to find support with their own ADHD. She’s also a proud mum of two amazing neurodivergent kids and she’s been walking her own ADHD parenting path, having received her diagnosis in 2021.What makes Claire such a powerful voice in this space isn’t just her expertise, it’s her empathy, her lived experience, and her unwavering belief in the brilliance of ADHD brains. In this episode, we go deeper into the realities of parenting ADHD children and talk about how the school system and environment needs to be updated to accommodate for those with ADHD. Claire explains how important it is for us as parents to nurture kids self-esteem, protect their sense of identity, and embrace the fire inside them. We also talk about what it means to be a true champion for neurodiversity, in our families, our communities, and in the systems that unfortunately still have a long way to go. So whether you're part of the neurodivergent ADHD community or just want to broaden your understanding, this conversation is for you. I'll be back next week.

My guest this week is Amanda McGuinness from LittlePuddins.ie. Amanda is a truly inspiring voice in the parenting community and a powerful advocate for autism acceptance and understanding. Amanda is a mum of four beautiful children, all of whom are neurodivergent, and her journey into the world of neurodiversity has shaped not only her family’s life but also the lives of so many others who follow and learn from her. Through her blog, her Instagram presence, and the incredible visual resources she’s created, Amanda brings honesty, heart, and hope to conversations that can sometimes feel overwhelming. She’s not afraid to talk about the hard days, the big emotions, and the small wins, and she does it all with such empathy, as she is a woman with autism herself. In this episode, Amanda shares so much about her family experience, from those early days of diagnosis to building a platform that now supports thousands of families across Ireland and beyond. We talk about parenting, advocacy, inclusion, and the beauty of seeing the world through a different lens. So whether you're navigating your own neurodivergent parenting path, or simply looking to better understand the autistic experience, this episode is a great one. Back next week with more.

My guest this week is author and mindfulness educator Louise Shanagher. Louise is also the founder of the Creative Mindfulness method, a programme that introduces mindfulness and self-compassion to children through creative activities like storytelling, art, and meditation. She has authored several children's books, and through her Creative Mindfulness Practitioner Training, has introduced mindfulness practices to tens of thousands of people, reflecting her deep passion for sharing that important knowledge. We talk about how mindfulness has evolved over the years, how it can now apply to and be used by children and young people, and how to equip children with lifelong self-care tools. I don't know about you, but I was terrified by the recent Netflix series Adolescence, and speaking to Louise gave me confidence that with the right tools, you can raise a self-compassionate and self-aware child who knows their parents are there as a safety net for them no matter what. Louise is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to how to speak to young children in a way that is understandable but effective too. Louise's latest book, Growing Self-Compassionate Children, is available now should you want to know more. A really practical episode, I know you'll love this one. I'll be back next week with more.

This week, I spoke to returning guest Emma Flynn. Emma was first on the podcast with the lovely Sinead more than three years ago, but her story was so compelling and so important that I wanted to catch up with her and see how things are for her now.

Emma's story can be difficult to hear and can be triggering, so if you're a new mam or in a particularly sensitive place, just use caution and take care when listening.

Now a mother of three, when Emma's first child, Jack was born, she went through the darkest and scariest moments of her life. She felt she didn't love her son, but worse, she felt the only way through her suffering was to hurt herself and her baby.

With help from medication, her therapist, her husband and her supportive family, she managed to survive through it and go on to have two more children, and to absolutely adore all three of them.

She has an incredibly supportive online community too where sharing her story has helped (and will continue to help) so many people going through similar but afraid to talk about it.

We spoke about finding healing, her return to faith and how she is now, several years on from those traumatic days.

It was a tough episode to record but so worthwhile. I'll be back next week, speak to you then.

The lovely Niamh O'Sullivan is my guest this week, and although I've known Niamh for a good few years, and she's always radiant, she was absolutely GLOWING with the joy that only arrives when you're expecting your first baby. At the time of recording, Niamh is about half way through her pregnancy, and she's just now coming out of the horrendous sickness she endured for almost the whole first half... which I can identify with, and that's something literally anyone who listens to this podcast will know, as I never shut up about it. Niamh and I discuss the perils of pregnancy Googling, how sometimes you DON'T want the gory birth stories and how the phrase "You just wait!" is Niamh's biggest peeve. We talk about birth plans (or the lack thereof) and feeling nervous about birth, but it's clear that Niamh is just thrilled to be about to welcome her baby to the world. I can't wait to have her back on after she has her little angel to talk all things fourth trimester. Enjoy this, and I'll be back next week with more.

I absolutely LOVED this week's episode. Not only was Louise Galvin extremely sound to chat to and I left wanting to be her pal, she was so open and honest and candid about how she and her husband manage parenting. Louise, for those unfamiliar, is one of Ireland's most successful sports stars – playing at senior level with the Kerry football team, playing in the Rugby 7s World Cup AND as the captain of a National Cup winning basketball team. She probably made GAA history when, following one of her particularly important semi-final matches, Louise ran off the pitch to breastfeed her baby just as the final whistle blew, making her the first player to breastfeed in the dressing rooms at Croke Park. Louise has a three year old son and twin babies who are not even five months yet, and she's making sure she makes time to be match fit to catch the end of the football season. I for one was in awe listening to her tell me all this, while she was just taking it totally in her stride, making it clear that she doesn't get mam guilt because she knows her sport is an important part of who she is and an important example to set for her three children. I think you will love this episode as much as I did – and I'll be back next week with more.

My guest this week is award-winning lactation consultant Orla Dorgan, who is the founder of mylactationconsultant.ie. Orla is a nurse by profession, but when she breastfed her children and had a good experience, she wanted to bring the tools and advice she had to as many parents as possible. This episode covers a lot – both general chats about feeding, holds, using nipple shields and whether cabbage leaves actually do anything, and also answers to specific breastfeeding questions too, such as how can a partner help the breastfeeding journey, and the transition back to work while still feeding. Orla also give her three-step approach to stopping mastitis from taking hold, and how to tell it might be beginning in the first place. A really fascinating episode, this will help anyone at the start of a breastfeeding journey. I'll be back next week with more.

This weeks episode was just such a pleasure to record from start to finish – Ailbhe Garrihy is my guest this week and she is just the most engaging and warm person to chat to, and I know it's such a podcast cliche but I really could have talked to her for hours. Ailbhe is not only the general manager of her thriving family business Dublin Bay Cruises but she's also a mam of two little boys, Sean and Fionn, who at ages 4 and 2 keep her very busy. We chat about raising boys having known only sisters and girls in her family for most of her life, about taking her two on an 11 hour flight to San Francisco and living to tell the tale, and her disciplining hacks for getting her two lads to comply (I call them threats in my house, but maybe that's too strong a word?) Ailbhe has the most grateful and positive approach to parenting, and this episode will give anyone expecting a boy, or a second boy, a real insight into all the loveliness to come. I'll be back next week with another episode.

My guest for our first episode of season 16 is the lovely Grace Mongey Gernon. Grace has been working full time as an influencer for the past nine years – there was somewhat of an urgency with getting Grace's episode recorded, because when we spoke she was 39 weeks pregnant and eagerly awaiting the arrival of her third child, a little boy who's name she's already got embroidered on a little jumper for when he's born. We talk about the transition she's about to face from two children to three, and the age gap between her other two being big enough that going back into nappies and night feeds will be a huge change to their life all over again. We chat about her life online, how her family feel about her work as an influencer, and how trolling almost made her give it all up to be a midwife, but how now she's in a good place mentally and feels good about it again. Grace is so loved online for her no nonsense approach and for being upfront and honest about her reality. this was a lovely episode to record and while nobody went into labour during it, it's still worth a listen. Back next week with more.

This week I was delighted to welcome the lovely Millie Mackintosh to the podcast. She’s a reality TV star turned entrepreneur, she's a mother to two girls and many of you will recognize her from her breakout role on Made in Chelsea. Since then, she’s carved out an incredible career as a wellness advocate, businesswoman, and with her new book, Bad Drunk, an author now too. During the episode, we discuss the contents of the book, which as the title suggests is about Millie's complicated journey with alcohol, through a parenting lens. She is so wonderfully open about how alcohol negatively impacted her world, including her ability to parent. She also talks me through how she attempts to navigate disciplining her girls, which believe me I was taking notes on. It's a deeply personal and empowering episode, and whether she’s sharing her journey through motherhood, her love of fashion, or her passion for mental well-being, Millie’s authenticity, and insight shine through. Enjoy this last episode, thank you so much for your support, comments, DMs, and listens, and I'll be back to you next season with lots more.

My guest this week is Katie Healy Nolan, whose life is chaotic but filled with gratitude, as she parents her five young children, ages 8 down to just six weeks. Her eldest child, her daughter Penelope, is living with a life-limiting illness and requires 24-hour care, with Katie provides, as she says herself "with a heart and a half". Katie and her husband Dave also parent their four boys, while advocating for the care their eldest needs. Penelope's illness is extremely rare and therefore isn't straightforward when it comes to accessing the supports she needs. Katie, through all of this, remains astoundingly positive, and is an absolute hero as far as I'm concerned, as she talks about how lucky and grateful she is to be able to have her family, and how a big family was always on the cards for both herself and her husband. Having survived the terrorist attack in the Bataclan in Paris back in 2015 which killed 130 people, Katie says her perspective on life is a little bit different and is grateful to have the choice to keep going, where so many others didn't and don't. A truly uplifting episode. Enjoy it, and I'll be back with the season finale next week.

Joining me for this week's episode is Lisa McHugh, an award-winning singer-songwriter and one of the brightest stars in Irish country music. Beyond her music, she’s also an entrepreneur, a proud mam of two, and a voice of positivity and empowerment for women. Her two children, Milo who is two and Hallie who is just five months, are the centre of her world, but her parenting path has thrown up some real challenges for Lisa. After Hallie was born, Lisa spent ten days in hospital with her brand new daughter in the NICU, where she couldn't see Milo and couldn't cuddle her newborn as she was hooked up to a CPAP machine. Hallie's health had another challenge just recently too, and another stint in hospital was required. But through it all, Lisa remains positive, while also being honest about how hard is has been for her and her family. With her own parents in Glasgow, where Lisa was born, she says that having a break or some downtime isn't something she can remember having in recent memory. All of this, and a full-on career as a musician means that Lisa is my new inspiration! I hope you enjoy listening this week, and I'll be back with more next week.

My guest this week is the incredible Anna Geary, broadcaster, author and former All Ireland medal-winning camogie player. Anna is a national treasure, a wellness advocate and an inspiration to to others, and she's also a mum of one – her little boy Ronan is 16 months old and as Anna says, changed her life for the better. This episode was the definition of sitting with a cup of tea with your mam friend and just having the chats. We talked about the pressure to 'perform' for want of a better term, when it comes to parenting, we talk about comparison online and how detrimental it can be, while also being a valuable resource, and how those few minutes a day you can take for yourself are critical when it comes to being a better parent. Anna and I have a lot in common, we discovered, when it comes to our love of lists, our love of structure and our sanity hingeing on whether our child is sleeping well – and we have both found, to our dismay, that children don't come with a rulebook, and the certainly don't give two hoots about your best laid plans. It was so great to hear someone as successful and lovely as Anna say that actually, we're all just winging it. Enjoy this episode, and I'll be back soon with more.

My guest this week is Rachel Ivie, someone I'm certain lots of you will follow online for her style and outfit ideas. Rachel is a fashion influencer, almost by accident, having started her outfit posts during Covid when she wasn't working at her other job as a primary school teacher. She's also a mother of two, as if there wasn't enough going on. We talk about parental leave helping to ease the pressure on parents, we talk about whether or not your child is ready for school, and about how she chose not to go down the 'parenting content' route when she had her two children, now 4 and 2. I also tried to plug her for discipline advice, given that she's a teacher and the mother of a little girl around the same age as mine – but it turns out, 3 and 4 year old little girls are beyond discipline. Which is just great news altogether for parents listening! It was a great chat, Rachel straight away acknowledged that support is the only way to cope with the 'balance' in parenting and working, and I know so many of you will get something from listening. Back next week with more.

This week, I chatted to the incredible Deirdre McDonagh, a social worker who founded Five Rivers Fostering over 22 years ago. I knew very little about fostering at the start of our conversation, so I was coming to this topic with mostly questions, and Deirdre was certainly the right person to ask. We talked about the basic types of fostering, from emergency care to longer term fostering that might result in adoption, we talked about what circumstances might arise that would cause a child to be in need of all the various types of foster care, and we talk about the amazing families who selflessly take children who are in need into their homes and give them the two things they need most: Love and safety. I personally wanted to ask Deirdre how her heart isn't endlessly broken seeing the children leave their families, for whatever number of reasons, often not really wanting to leave but having no choice for their own safety – it really is a heroic thing to do to foster a child and I hope that after listening to this episode, anyone considering it might feel empowered to start the process. Thanks for listening, I'll be back with more next week.

This week's guest is my lovely friend Courtney Smith. Courtney is an incredibly talented creative director and stylist, a truly beautiful person inside and out and is someone I've worked with and admired for a long time, so it was great to speak to her about being a mam. At the time of recording, she's about to have her third baby, and though we joked that she could go into labour during the record – thankfully we got through it okay. We get real about the 'balance' in motherhood, and how really it doesn't exist and how the notion of having it all is nonsense. We also talk about Courtney's three very unique pregnancies – one in Covid, one while grieving, and one while having illness in the family. Courtney is a real woman's woman, and she was really keen to mention that although perception might have you believe she has it all worked out, she still goes on Instagram, compares herself to others and wonders how THEY do it all. We're all the same really, aren't we! Thanks for listening and I'll speak to you again next week.

This week, I spoke to lovely Laura Drury, also known as The Glam Shamrock, about her life as a content creator and mother of three children under the age of four. Yes, three under four – the woman is a hero. We spoke about how much she leans into the chaos, embraces the challenges but always tries to do one key thing: Find time in her day to do something that's just for her. Whether that's a 15-minute makeup break or a walk to get some fresh air, making time to prioritise her own health and mental wellbeing is something she's passionate about. It's such an important thing that I think sometimes as mothers we can take for granted – parenting is tough and you taking time out to feel like yourself and to do things that fill your cup is absolutely essential. We also talked about how, if you're parenting with a partner, keeping your relationship with that person solid, with open lines of communication, is so important to not only you, but to the lives of your children. Believe me, they're more perceptive than we give them credit for! Enjoy this chat, and I'll be back next week with more.

This week's guest is Dr Malie Coyne, a Clinical Psychologist, bestselling author and and clinical psychology lecturer. Dr Coyne's special area of interest is in children's and adolescent mental health, and helping families navigate challenges around that. During our conversation today, the word 'compassion' came up a lot – not in relation to our children, but in relation to ourselves. Sharing stories of those times I've lost my patience, or been too cross with Lydia, I articulated what I think many parents feel when under the immense pressure to be the 'perfect' parent. Dr Coyne's approach to it is that sometimes, being 'good enough' is the best thing for our children. She advocates showing yourself kindness and care first, and letting that calm trickle down to your family. It's so good to hear from someone so experienced that an approach like that is not only okay, but might even be better for us than constantly aiming for perfection. Enjoy listening, and I'll be back next week.

My guest this week is entrepreneur and mother of two, Jennie McGinn. Jennie is an entrepreneur in the truest sense of the word – she's the brains behind many very successful business endeavours, and somehow seems to keep all of the plates spinning, but something I love about her is her honesty about the very real juggle we all find ourselves doing, whether self-employed or not. She's refreshingly straightforward about the challenges of doing it all, or trying to at least, and we talk extensively about relying on our village, if we're lucky enough to have one. Jennie shares the heartbreaking story of losing her mother four years ago and the effect that had on her family and her children, and how vital those grandparent figures can be in our lives and those of our little ones. I managed to not cry during this one, but it is an emotional one, particularly for anyone who's lost a parent. Thanks for listening and I'll be back next week with more.

My guest this week was Tara Anderson, or as you might know her online – Tara Makeup. Makeup artist, model, actor, influencer and entrepreneur are all roles Tara has had in her life, but her job as mam to Gene and Jools, her 6 and 3-year-old sons, is the one we chatted most about in this episode. Tara talks candidly about her two very different experiences of pregnancy and birth, about how she's a private person in spite of being well known online, and how even for her, comparison can be the thief of joy at times. We chat about how parenting now is totally different to the parenting our own parents would've done, and how full of doubt we can be at times as to whether we're doing the right things. Tara is one of those people who you look at online and think 'how does she do it', but from talking to her I can tell that she's just like the rest of us: Doing the best for her family through the good and the bad. Thank you so much for listening today, and throughout season 14, and I'll be talking to you again soon.

My guest this week was model and blogger, the lovely Louise O'Reilly, who is someone I've known for a really long time, since the very early days of my former career in magazines and since the early days of her career as a curve model. Louise has not only modelled in magazines like Cosmopolitan, but has had a plus size fashion blog called Style Me Curvy for as long as she's been modelling, which is where some of you might know her from. There, she helps women everywhere to embrace their individuality no matter what their size. And now, at 31-weeks pregnant, she continues to do so. But Louise's journey to pregnancy wasn't straightforward, and in fact she was given a less than 2% chance of ever conceiving, even with the help of IVF, which she didn't even look into in the end. Her miracle, spontaneous pregnancy was so unlikely to happen as she has polycystic ovarian syndrome, otherwise known as PCOS. She talks about her symptoms, how she was dismissed time and time again by doctors who didn't take those symptoms seriously, and how women are often overlooked by doctors based on their weight alone. Our discussion around women's health in general was fascinating, and anyone with Endometriosis, Adenomyosis or PCOS would likely identify with what Louise went through in getting a diagnosis. It's one of those episodes where I leave knowing so much more about a topic but also with great nuggets of advice such as, as Louise says: Always trust your gut when it comes to your health. Enjoy, and I'll be back soon with more.

Before I start this week's guest intro, I just want to flag that this episode is a very emotional one and might not be a comfortable listen for anyone in the early stages of grief, as it deals with the loss of a child.

My amazing and brave guest for this episode is Eileen Loughlin. Eileen is a mother of four gorgeous children, from ages 20 all the way to just two years old. Five and a half years ago, Eileen and her family's life was turned upside down when a tragic accident at their home led to the death of their youngest child at the time Annabel, who was just 3 and a half when she passed away. Eileen talks to me today about Annabel's short but happy life, her grieving process, the support that has seen her through and her hopes for her three living children as they move through their lives. She also tells me that there are plans in motion for a way to remember Annabel and build a legacy through which she can live on in memory. A gut-wrenching listen for me as the mother of a child the same age as Annabel, but for anyone experiencing loss, this could be a really helpful and hopeful episode. I'll be back next week with more.

This week, I spoke to child and adolescent psychotherapist and play therapy expert, Debbie Cullinane. Debbie helps children struggling at home with anything from anxiety, behavioural issues, anger, grief, and lots more. She talked me through what exactly play therapy is, who might benefit from it, the types of play that are involved, and how after a matter of weeks she can see changes in children that parents never expected. She told me how occasionally, it's more of an education for parents about what's developmentally appropriate for kids than it is actually about the therapy itself. I'll be honest – I wasn't sure what exactly play therapy was and what it entailed before I did some research for this episode, so hearing it directly from Debbie was an education for me, as I hope it will be for some of you. Enjoy this episode, and I'll be back next week with more.

My guest this week is mother of two, Eimear Hallahan. If you don't know Eimear's story from social media already, it's worth noting that this episode deals with a critically ill baby and might be a tough listen for some. Eimear's youngest son, James, was just two weeks old when she brought him to hospital knowing something wasn't right with him. She trusted her instinct, and once he arrived to Cork University Hospital, the doctors and nurses there sprang into action. He had sepsis, and his body was so full of infection that no antibiotic was seemingly working to treat it. Eimear knew straight away it was critical, and was told her son's chances of survival, at one point, were as low as just 5%. Her strength, positivity, and resilience, along with the support of her partner Jack, meant that through it all, she believed that James would survive. It's an incredible and powerful story of just pure hope, and it brought me to tears, which doesn't often happen! Like I said, this episode is a tough listen at times – I'll be back to you next week with more.

My guest this week is Dr Christina McDonnell, who is a practicing GP, a Garda on-call doctor and also the owner of Genius Juniors, the online bookshop for children of all ages. I was so excited to chat with Christina because honestly, nothing shaped me more throughout childhood than the books I read, and I know just how powerful reading can be for a child's development. Christina was a wealth of knowledge about what reading can do for a child, how much screen time we should give our kids, the 'whatever works' approach and making time for one on one moments with your children if possible. I came perilously close to totally nerding out about the books I loved as a child – any parent who wants to enrich their child's life will love this episode, there's no better gift than the love of reading, to my mind anyway. Enjoy!

The lovely Louise Cooney joins me this week for a chat about all things motherhood. Louise, who I'm sure lots of you follow, is an influencer, content creator and mother to baby Jude, who is 8 and a half months old. From talking to Louise, it's so clear to see that motherhood suits her – she has a refreshingly positive take on being a new mam and honestly, if I was pregnant with my first child again and heard how beautifully she speaks about her experience, I would be genuinely looking forward to the experience. We talk about her relationship with her partner Mark changing after Jude came into the world, how she's got a newfound respect for mothers everywhere, and how she accepted that her work was going to have to take a back seat while she focused her energy on her son. Anyone about to experience parenthood for the first time, this is the perfect episode to listen to. I hope you enjoy!

This week, I spoke to the amazing Dr Rebecca Moore. Dr Moore is an incredibly empathetic perinatal consultant psychiatrist who works in the UK. She is renowned for her expertise in supporting mothers who are navigating infertility, pregnancy loss, anxiety, depression, and of course, our topic for today's episode: birth trauma. Around 30% of people who give birth recall some part of their birth experience as traumatic. For me, I had antenatal trauma in my pregnancy, which is often overlooked for women too. Phrases like "at least you have a healthy baby" are bandied about and ultimately, not helpful. We discuss every aspect of birth trauma, the signs to look out for, how to talk to those close to you about it, and things that can help you overcome it for subsequent pregnancies and deliveries. I always say it, but these conversations are so important to have because although we're all grateful when a healthy baby is delivered, it doesn't mean the maternal mental health is intact. Enjoy this episode and I'll speak to you next week.

Having undergone the process twice in recent years, Ali knows the ins and outs. We discuss her motivation for embarking on the process, the financial implications, the side effects of taking so many hormones, the physical aftermath of the retrieval and so much more. One of the things I love about Ali is that she's always so transparent and honest about things, and her egg retrieval process is no different – she's showing the realities of every step of the journey and is doing so to encourage others to talk about it more openly. She believes there's an unnecessary shame around not reaching those societally imposed milestones we all know exist, and she's doing things her own way. I loved this chat and I know you will too.

TRIGGER WARNING: Suicide/suicidal ideation.

My guest this week, and our first back for Season 14, is Sophie White. A prolific and massively successful author and podcaster, Sophie is also mother to three boys between 10 and 4 and has battled with mental illness since she was in her early 20s. As Sophie says herself in the episode, it's not often someone can pinpoint exactly when they became mentally ill, but she can – a drug-induced psychosis in 2007 led to her being hospitalised and later diagnosed with Bipolar 2. We chat about everything from gender stereotypes and how trucks and cars just seemed to manifest in her home in the same way dolls and nail polish manifested in mine, to how she coped through multiple serious mental illness relapses. We also touched on the issue of responsibility and mental illness, and whether it's an irresponsible thing to do to have children when you know you're likely to be unwell. It's a fascinating episode in which I let Sophie do the talking – I couldn't compete with her eloquence and bravery and honesty on the subject – so I really hope you enjoy it.

Can you believe we've reached the end of the season! My last guest for season 13 is the very lovely Kelly Fitzsimons – formerly known on Instagram at least as MissEllaMayandMommy. Kelly had her daughter Ella aged 19 and her following online grew as the two of them grew up together. Sharing outfit posts with matching dresses, their mother daughter relationship was (and is!) goals. Kelly went on to have her son Mac in her early thirties, leaving a 13 year age gap between her two children. We talked this week about that age gap, what she knows now that she wishes she knew as a teenage mam, what has changed in the intervening years, and how threats sometimes are the best way to get children to do what you need them to do. Kelly also talks about the beautiful relationship her 14 year old has with her one year old, and how while one is worried about boys and periods, the other is teething. It sounds like delightful chaos! Kelly is so laid back about parenting and it's a very refreshing listen for that reason. Enjoy, and I'm delighted to say I'll be back next season for more amazing episodes.

I was so so grateful to this week's guest for joining me on the podcast. The lovely Dominique Nugent so bravely chatted to me about her experience, earlier this year, of late stage miscarriage. Dominique was a day short of 16 weeks when she delivered her baby, who had not survived in utero. She so generously decided now was the time to talk about it, start to finish, with me and with the listeners to the podcast, saying that she knows if listening will help just one person through their own tough time, she'll be happy she did it. If miscarriage is in any way a sensitive subject for you currently, maybe hold off on listening to what is an incredibly emotional episode – both of us cried a lot – but if you think it could help in your healing process, I know Dominique's courage was inspiring to me and could be to you too. I'll be back soon with another episode.

My guest this week is my lovely friend, author, and journalist Liadán Hynes, who is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to parenting, and life in general really. She's a single parent to one daughter who's 9 years old. She's self-employed and works flexibly to be as present as she can for her little girl and writes often about her experiences as a working single mother. We talk about everything from facing what could be lonely weekends without your child or children, the imbalance that exists for mothers in the workplace and so much more. Lia's got so much of her own experience to draw from, but as an empathetic and resonant writer, she has so much wisdom to share from years of interviewing. A truly lovely chat, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

*Note the cards mentioned by Liadán about the mental load mothers carry are called the Fair Play Game, created by Eve Rodsky.

My guest this week is Carla Kelly, who is one of the founders of Ask The Midwife, a company that aims to support parents from pregnancy through to postpartum and beyond. A midwife herself, we asked you guys, our cherished listeners, to put questions to her that you might need advice on. We talked about an incredible grandparents refresher course that they run (totally genius if you ask me) their various antenatal and postnatal classes, how they help build a community of mothers so no matter what you're going through you feel less alone, and there's a little bit of chat about the various colours of baby poop. We cover all bases here on everymum! Anyway – enjoy my chat with Carla and I'll speak to you next week.

Note: If you have a specific medical query, it's recommended to speak to your GP.

My wonderful friend Caroline Foran is my guest this week, and a returning guest to Everymum the podcast. This time, we talk about her most recent struggles with her son Caelan, and how she has recently undergone assessments with various clinical assessors to help better understand her son's unique needs. We talk about the anxiety over a potential future diagnosis, how guilt can be associated with wanting a straightforward life for your child, and how she cries every night at bed time out of sheer frustration at how challenging her days have become. She talks with such bravery and candour, but also with empathy and a genuine sense of gratitude. This chat might be of particular help to anyone starting or in the middle of an assessment process, or anyone who feels the frustrations and guilt associated with parenting. I hope you enjoy!

My guest this week is Shannen Bulman Joyce, who was previously known on social media as Big C and Me, because she used her platform to document her cancer journey. Over the course of her adult life, just the past ten years, she's been diagnosed with and survived cancer three times. She's now the healthiest she's ever been, and is thriving and living life as a single mother to her daughter Roisin. We chat about everything from health anxiety and mam guilt, to what it was like having to explain to her daughter that she and her daughter's dad were no longer together. We also talked about the difficulties around being a parent and being sick, even with a more minor illness, and the guilt that comes with that. I'm thrilled I finally got to chat to Shannen as I'd followed her for a long time, and she's one of the most genuinely inspirational people you could come across. Enjoy and I'll chat to you next week.

My guest today is model and mam of three, Rosanna Davison. Over the past few years, life has changed dramatically for Rosanna. From going through a tragic 14 miscarriages and believing she wouldn't be able to carry a pregnancy to term, she and her husband sought the help of a surrogate from Ukraine to make their dream of having a family come true. She talks to me about the anxiety of knowing her baby was in someone else's body in a completely different country, and how she coped with that. And then we talk about the shock of her finding out shortly after her daughter was born that she had spontaneously conceived healthy identical twin boys. It was great to hear Rosanna's honest take on life with three under five, how she manages everything and how her identical twins have interesting differences (particularly when it comes to sleeping arrangements!) but it was an emotional episode too, and I had tears in my eyes many times throughout – I hope you enjoy lovely Rosanna's story.

Kelly Donegan is my guest this week – you might know Kelly, if you're a millennial like me, from Tallafornia, a reality show she starred in 12 years ago now. If you've been following her online, you'll have seen her go from reality TV star to fitness expert to now, a mammy of one. Since her daughter Cherry arrived, Kelly's plans for motherhood haven't quite gone off as she'd hoped. We talk about the disappointment you can feel when your birth plans go the exact opposite to what you'd hoped, the challenges so many people go through when it comes to breast feeding, and what Kelly would do differently if she could go through it all again. It's such an open, honest and brave conversation, which I think is refreshing, given the tendency online to only show the 'good' and cover up the tougher times. I hope you enjoy it.

My guest this week is Ali Deasy, who is famous where she lives as the mother who is shadowed everywhere she goes by her gorgeous triplets, Bruce Ted and Lenny. Ali has been a guest on Everymum in the past, but I saw recently she spoke online about her mental health struggle when the boys were between the ages of 2 and 3 years old. I caught up with her as soon as I heard that, because often I think postnatal depression or motherhood-related depression might only be associated with the immediate aftermath of having a baby, or as something that you can be certain you've escaped if your child is older than one – that's absolutely not the case, and I chatted to Ali about how she leaned on her friends to help her through that tough patch. We also chat about the logistics of managing three four year old's (and her angel of a daughter, Georgia, who is like another mammy to the three lads), and how she only dresses them the same if she needs to be able to do a quick headcount in public. I've never smiled so much during an episode, honestly, so I hope it's the same for you. Enjoy!

Warning: This episode discusses baby loss.

My guest for this episode is Jessica Bourke, otherwise known as The Fertility Detective. She's known among her followers and patients for her honest, straightforward and compassionate approach to all things fertility, and as she says online, she has nearly two decades of experience helping people to get and to stay pregnant. Before you start listening to this week's episode, I must let you know – we speak extensively and in detail about what it's like to go through various types of miscarriage – just something to be aware of if that's a subject that's sensitive to you at the moment. Jessica is a total pro and it was clear from chatting to her just how much of a vocation her job is for her. I know you'll learn so much from this one, just as I did.

My incredible guest this week is the OG sleep coach in Ireland, the person with thousands of hours of pacing hallways and bedrooms with babies in her arms – Kelly Geoghegan. Kelly's business, Sleepy Stars, is all about helping babies with sleep. But her fascinating career has featured superyachts, helicopters and changing time zones twice in a week, all the while caring for babies that need their sleep. She chats to me about her celebrity and high net worth clients, how she approaches trying to get twins and triplets to sleep in the same room together, and so much more. We also discuss the largely unregulated sleep coaching industry, and Kelly says she would love to see more controls in place to stop parents who are desperate for help from finding it in the wrong places. Kelly is probably one of the most hands-on experienced professionals I've spoken to, she walks the walk – literally – and I even got a cheeky question to her about my own daughter... a perk of the job, maybe? Enjoy, and I'll speak to you again next week.

This week I spoke to Sarah Ockwell Smith, a parenting expert who has written 15 books on parenting over the course of her career. While we could've covered a number of topics, what I really wanted to speak to her about was the idea of gentle parenting and what it really is. Like you, I've seen Instagram memes and Tiktokers talk about gentle parenting, and most of what I saw left me more confused than enlightened. But speaking to Sarah really gave me a clear picture of what it means to be a gentle parent – and no, it doesn't involve mollycoddling your child and refusing to discipline them. I learned a huge amount during this episode, including how to deescalate a tantrum in the moment, and how best to go about stopping them before they even happen – something other parents of toddlers I'm sure could benefit from. Enjoy, and I'll be back next week with more.

Today's guest is Karen Ferguson, head of nursing and clinical services with SIMS IVF. I'll be completely honest, my knowledge of all things fertility and infertility was minimal, that is – before I spoke to Karen. We went back to basics, and discussed things like the stigma around talking about fertility struggles, what exactly is involved in an egg retrieval, common myths and misconceptions about fertility treatment, and how to be sensitive to friends or family members going through an IVF process. We also talk about the legislation recently passed which is, as we discuss, exclusionary to many people who are trying to conceive, and also how to handle workplace conversations about fertility treatment. It was great to speak to Karen and learn so much during this episode, so I hope you learn something too.

I was joined for today's episode by Kathy Milliken. Kathy is a baby, birth and post-partum expert in so many ways: She's trained as a doula, she's trained in breastfeeding counselling, she's a qualified pre- and post-natal yoga instructor, among other things. And yet, with all her experience, she told me she didn't really KNOW what motherhood would be like in practical terms until she had her children. Three children, all brought into the world very differently, taught her so much that she continues to share with other mothers now through her business, Bump, Baby and Me. She's a wealth of knowledge but is also just a warm, inclusive and understanding voice for anyone about to have their first child, about to become a parent again, or for someone who experienced trauma in pregnancy or delivery who just needs someone to talk to. I loved this chat with Kathy, I hope you do too.

This episode had me wide-eyed with my jaw on the floor, as returning guest Aisling Kearns shares the story of her home birth. Aisling's son Tommy was just four weeks old when we recorded, and slept like an angel throughout. Having spoken to a doula and read a book about childbirth as a rite of passage, Aisling decided a home birth was for her, even though it was her first pregnancy. She talks about the home set-up, who was there, how it all went and how she hopes her choice to do it (and her choice to talk about it with such amazing honesty) will inspire others to potentially consider it as an option where they might not have before. This episode is unmissable and absolutely fascinating.

This week, I was so pleased to be able to speak to online parenting sensation Payal Desai, who joined me all the way from New Jersey (albeit on a slightly glitchy Zoom call for which I blame my own dodgy broadband) where she lives with her husband and two little boys. Payal is a middle school teacher and content creator who went insanely viral with her 'dusty son' videos. For anyone who has yet to see one, she captures teachable moments with her young sons, typically about gender roles and toxic masculinity, to the tune of the 1995 RnB song, 'I've got 5 on it', while glancing back at the camera as it zooms in to her face. Just one of her videos alone has over 10M views on Tiktok – so chances are you've seen at least one. We spoke about going viral with parenting content, gender roles in the home and how there's an imbalance, and bringing up children who have empathy and understanding about the world around them. It's a great episode, I hope you enjoy.

My guest this week is Rob Burke – Rob is a friend of mine, and one of the most articulate people I know, and so I knew that he'd be the perfect person to speak to about the experiences of a new dad. From pregnancy, where he says he felt his duty was to take care of his wife, to the delivery suite and cutting the umbilical cord and being a human stirrup, to his daughter Pippa's first six months of life, he's gone through the ups and downs of parenthood alongside his wife Becca, and shares lessons he's learned along the way. I've had so many mothers join me and talk about their experiences that I felt the role of dad was being overlooked – I'm delighted to say Rob's episode with me remedies that. I hope you enjoy.

This week I speak to Irish model and mother of one Kelly Horrigan. Although Kelly delivered her beautiful little boy almost 14 months ago now, she is still feeling the long-term effects of her delivery. After her son's birth, Kelly found she had something called pudendal neuralgia, which sees her in constant nerve pain from her episiotomy scar all the way down her leg. She still struggles with it and attends physio, and could even have to have procedures in the future to stop the pain, including going to a pain management clinic for injections. Through it all, Kelly remains so positive, but she says that the after-effects of her delivery still stay in her mind even now. For any mother still feeling like they're not physically (or mentally) back to themselves, this episode will resonate.

Today's guest is influencer and first time mam, Siobhan O'Hagan. In her previous life as a fitness influencer, Siobhan's goals and values were always crystal clear: She enjoyed the freedom that came with her life moving from Bali to Thailand to London and back to Ireland. She was vocal about her choice not to have children, and for a long time that completely aligned with her value system. Until, one day, it didn't anymore. She had what she calls an 'existential crisis' and after becoming pregnant last year, she decided to embrace the curveball that life threw her. She's now happily co-parenting a gorgeous baby girl with her daughter's dad, and although they're not in a relationship, they're embracing parenthood together. What I've always admired about Siobhan was her fearlessness in doing things completely her own way, and her journey into motherhood has been no different.

For our first episode back for Season 12, I'm joined by fashion influencer and stylist Lorna Weightman and possibly our youngest ever guest, 9 week old Arthur was also on the Zoom being an absolute angel. Lorna and I discovered that we both approached parenthood with a "will I or won't I?" mentality – we weren't 100% convinced it was for us, until of course, we were. So if you're on the fence about whether to try or not, this episode might help you. We also chat about Lorna's whole birth story, which – spoiler alert, spans FOUR days – and how the first two weeks of Arthur's life proved incredibly challenging as Lorna tried to get to grips with breastfeeding. We also chat about losing your identity as a mother and the word that resonates most with her now that she's a parent, which is: Acceptance.

We're already on our last episode of Season 11, and I can't wait to bring you more episodes as we head into season 12 really soon. But we wanted to round out this season on a high and I think we may have achieved it... What a total and utter joy it was to interview this week's guest. A dream podcast interviewee, I spoke to Giovanna Fletcher, author, mother of three boys and host of the Happy Mum, Happy Baby podcast. She's also married to Tom from McFly so if you're a millennial mammy like I am, that's probably significant. But back to Giovanna. As the presenter of a parenting podcast, this was like speaking to royalty!! We spoke about lessons we've learned through talking to so many people about parenting, and how the main takeaway is that whatever you're going through, you're likely not alone. We talking about the importance of getting out in nature to fill your cup, and how the idea of "having it all" is a myth – she spoke about that with Geri Halliwell, no less. A SPICE GIRL. The episode is, like Giovanna, just full of kindness and empathy and words of advice, so I hope you enjoy.

This week, Dr Doireann O'Leary joins me to talk about her experience of motherhood so far. Her son is nine months old, and while she doesn't share his name or face online, she is very open about how she's finding the transition into parenthood. We chat about taking time for yourself and letting go of the guilt around that.

She says quite rightly that you can't pour from an empty cup – that if as mothers we're well rested, feeling supported and given time to be ourselves, we're better parents to our children. We discuss how being a GP helped her in the early days of parenting, but didn't completely relieve her of worry, and how the mental load of motherhood has been her biggest challenge. It's a beautiful episode, I really hope you enjoy listening.

This week's episode I'm joined by Talya Benjamin. She's a new mother, living in New York, and when she was discharged from hospital after having her first baby, she checked in to a postpartum retreat called Boram. Research shows that dedicated postnatal care improves the health and well-being of mothers and their babies – and that's exactly what they provide. Talya checked in with her husband and their new born, and for three days and nights were given nourishing foods, access to lactation consultants and medical advice and recovery support. It really highlights the absence of 'the village' that we all wish we had, and while that particular centre is likely cost prohibitive for many, similar recovery centres are sorely needed for new parents and their babies. I was fascinated by everything Talya talked about – not to mention very jealous of what sounded like a truly lovely postpartum experience – so I hope you enjoy this as much as I did.

Joining me this week on the podcast is Youtuber, author and mother of two Melanie Murphy. Melanie's approach to parenthood really resonates with me, and we talk a lot about both feeling very strongly that whatever way you want to parent is your choice, and no one else's. She discusses her choice to bedshare with her babies, her choice to talk about breastfeeding online – which brought a whole new level of criticism to her door – how her past experience with eating disorders has shaped the way she views feeding her children, and her decision not to share her children's names. When you speak to Melanie, she's so engaging that you can immediately understand why she's got such an adoring following online – I hope you leave this episode feeling like you're not alone in ANY of your parenting struggles.

As presenter of Newstalk’s Alive and Kicking, Clare has interviewed all the experts on the topic but comes to our chat with an honest and refreshing approach. She admits that although she might like her children to enjoy a beetroot brownie, they roll their eyes and opt for the real deal instead. My guest this week is Audrey Dore-Geraghty. I first saw her story in the Irish Independent, where she spoke with incredible honesty about the heart-breaking struggle she and her family are facing with their son Harrison. Diagnosed with autism at two years old, he's now 9 and his behaviours have become increasingly physical and aggressive, to the point that Audrey said she can be frightened of her own son. She describes her frustration as she tries desperately to get the type of help her little boy needs, and says she can only live day-to-day because his future is so uncertain. Despite the severity of their situation and their constant fight to have Harrison properly assessed and supported, they have been forced to find psychiatric help in Spain, because the resources are so scarce here in Ireland. Audrey's story is a difficult one to listen to, never mind live it daily, as she and her family do. My hope for this particular episode is that as many people hear it as possible so that resources for families like Audrey's are made more readily available. Thanks for listening.

All the way from Fort Wayne Indiana, this week's guest is author, journalist and podcaster Rosemary Mac Cabe. We cover a LOT, but one of the most fascinating topics was the difference between maternity leave here in Ireland versus the states – when I say the US system is crazy, I'm not joking. We also talk about how motherhood has come naturally to Rosemary, and yet at times she still finds it challenging, monotonous and not always fulfilling. We chat about how her relationship with her stepsons has changed since her son Atlas came along, and how Miss Rachel is the third parent in both of our households.

Dearbhla says it's not easy and she wants to show on social media that perception is often not reality. We talk about her struggle with chronic sickness during pregnancy, how it impacts her Crohn's disease and how fitness and health is so important to her. We opened this season with Audrey Hamilton days before she gave birth to her first baby and we are closing this season as she shares her birth story, breastfeeding and postpartum journey following the arrival of baby Beau.

Here she talks to Sinead about how labour began, pain relief and Beau’s arrival, cracked nipples and forgetting breast pads at the recent awards.

We talk about instant love, returning to work and the loneliness that can set in postpartum.

So much has changed between these two episodes and having baby Beau join us for this recording as she feeds, burps, whimpers and more is the perfect post partum reality check we all need.

Journalist, podcaster and author Liadán Hynes joins us this week to talk about navigating relationship change as a parent.

When Liadán’s marriage fell apart someone told her that things might never be ok again, but through her book and podcast “How to Fall Apart” she has been open to disproving that. Her brand new book “Courting” is a wonderfully empathic and inclusive book about relationships, dating and all the different ways people can build a life they love through community and, above all, hope.

Here we talk about separation, single parenting, learning to accept change, and protecting the people we love most.

We talk about how connection, support and friendship can hold us together and that while nothing ever stays the same, sometimes change can bring new light.

At 9 months pregnant Ruth was preparing to welcome her first baby into the world.

This time in our lives is transformative in so many ways - but Ruth had no idea of what was to come.

And here in this episode she takes us through one of the most remarkable stories we’ve ever told on this podcast.

A brain tumour diagnosis, an emergency section and a stroke, one day after her son was born which immediately paralysed her on the left side.

Ruth fought her way back to her baby boy, she proved the experts wrong by getting home to him, by learning to walk again, by growing stronger every day.

5 years on, mothering one handed, Ruth explains how she had a choice and she chose to do everything in her power to be as strong as she possibly could for her baby.

A remarkable woman, a remarkable mindset, a remarkable mother.

This week Sinead is joined by comedian Julie Jay for an uplifting, ball juggling mam chat.

Her latest show “Oops, This is Toxic” is a massive success, described by Joanne McNally as a “Joy to watch” and by Tommy Tiernan as “the funniest thing I’ve seen in a long, long time”.

A pessimist by nature Julie shares how she never believed motherhood would be something she’d ever be fortunate enough to live - it was something that happened to other people, but not for her.

Meeting husband Fred Cooke & bringing Ted into the world in 2020 changed all that.

And here we are reminded that we never know what lies ahead - but a sense of humour most certainly helps.

In this episode I am joined by Senior Paediatric Dietician, mother of 3 and founder of weaning.ie Cathy Monaghan to talk about the realities of family food.

Weaning can be fun, messy and an anxious time as parents try to follow the rules with a baby who has their own mind.

Cathy brings it back to basics with the reassurance we all need to hear.

Food is about connection - and the greatest thing we can serve our children at mealtimes is our undivided attention.

Here we talk to nutritionist Dr. Michelle Hone founder of The Fit Clinic to talk about why it can feel so hard to care for our own health needs as mothers - and what daily practices we can do to support ourselves - because if we fall, our family crumbles.

We talk about the power of a deep breath, how our periods are a vital sign for what’s happening within us, why we should love ourselves when we can only give 1% and how making ourselves a non negotiable is the most loving thing we can do for our families.

Sinead is joined by Aisling Brennan a paediatric nurse in Crumlin Hospital and mama to Angie (her fur baby) and Daibhí (her baby baby) with her husband 2fm’s Carl Mullan.

The end of maternity leave is full of emotions.

Excitement to reclaim our professional selves.

Sadness the time with our baby is over.

But also maybe some reflection on how tough it can be

We can often go into it thinking it’ll be all coffees and playdates but in reality it can be incredibly isolating and you can feel low and lose a part of yourself.

Supported by her public health nurse, Aisling was allowed the safe space we all need to say how she was feeling and given the treatment her mental health needed to treat everything that had gone on before and allow her to enjoy the now.

This is a much needed open and honest conversation about pre and postnatal mental health, the unsaid truths of maternity leave and how this transition in our lives is so powerful that even Angie knew Aisling needed her protection.

What does a family look like?

We think it looks like love.

And this Father’s Day, everymum has a very special episode which celebrates 2 dads loving their little lady.

Mark Davidson, one half of the real dads of ireland instagram account and co-founder of kidandco.ie joins Sinead to talk about surrogacy, same sex parenting, raising a girl to see an equal world and the legal challenges parents through international surrogacy fight in Ireland to be recognised as legal parents.

We talk about the moment Izzy was born, about how their relationship was stretched and strengthened, about unsolicited advice and how dads can receive more help from friendly strangers.

This episode claps loudly for the amazing dads who are changing and challenging the old norm - the dads who love deeply, who share the work and who want to create a better more equal society for their children.

A celebration of same sex parenting and of fatherhood.

She has published two books containing a collection of her poetry and has become a leading voice for a mother’s love, a mother’s strength, the highs and the many lows.

In this final episode of the season, I am joined by the very ever first guest I had on everymum the podcast - Mairead Ronan.

In 2018 for episode 1 we spoke to Mairead about career & motherhood.

She had just won DWTS and was so excited and ready to take on a new career journey.

A mother of 3 the juggle was real.

Cut to the pandemic, some burnout, new priorities and a sense of the years moving too fast Mairead made the decision to leave her dream job to be home more.

This episode is about choice, about putting out the fires in your head, about being comfortable with change and not limiting ourselves.

We are women trying to be all things to all people - so if you can make a change that supports you, do it.

Do what’s right for you.

This week Sinead is joined by a woman who was pregnant & homeless.

She would like to remain anonymous but is hopeful that people can hear and understand her story.

As the housing crisis in Ireland escalates she found herself unable to keep up with rising rental costs.

In early pregnancy she had no choice but to arrive at a homeless hostel seeking support.

What she found was an environment completely unsuitable for any pregnant woman seeking shelter, care and compassion.

Thankfully she was directed to the work of the charity group Anew who support pregnant women at risk of homelessness.

From a warm bed to a hospital bag, anew support services are doing all they can.

To learn how you can help follow them at @anewsupportservices

Anger and rage - no matter how much you love sometimes these unwanted emotions rise and we want to understand why.

Anne Morgan, Psychotherapist, mother of 1 and founder of Sparkback to join us as we talk about the unsaid emotions of motherhood.

We talk about how our emotions are a language we have forgotten to speak.

How anger showing up can mean our own needs are repeatedly not being met.

How fatigue, loneliness and the daily mental load of motherhood can lead us to snap.

It’s often something minor, like the buggy not collapsing or having to ask 20 times for shoes to be put on.

It can feel irrational in the moment yet unavoidable.

And we talked about how it’s ok to feel these feelings - but to regulate them + not act upon them.

And most of all, how important it is to listen to what our bodies need and care for ourselves daily.

In this week’s episode Sinead O'Moore is back with a guest from Season 2 Sinead Hingston Green.

When we last spoke to Sinead Hingston she was raising her voice to share how difficult it was for parents to experience loss during the pandemic maternity restrictions. Available here.

Her episode supported an army of women who felt so abandoned and partners who felt so excluded. At the time Sinead shared her experience of a miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy in 2020. Her story didn’t end there as she became pregnant again, and lost again that year.

In early 2021 she and her husband gave their hearts one more time to the process and we recorded this episode with her little newborn Alby in her arms.

We talk about the pain of 3 losses in 2020.

About how she found the strength to try again.

About the community of other warriors she has connected with and is supported by.

How anxious she was throughout the pregnancy.

And how in love she is with her 3 children.

In this episode, on the week of love… we celebrate a mothers love after loss.

As women our hormones are all powerful.

As mothers they control our cycle, our ovulation our ability to create, grow and birth life.

And yet, there is so much unknown about the impact of burnout and balance can have on our minds and bodies in our late 30’s & 40’s.

How many of you asked yourself if your work was right for you after you had a baby?

In this last episode of season 5 our host, Sinead O'Moore is joined by Suzie O’Neill because she asked herself that question and the answer was no.

What she was doing didnt make sense anymore and she needed control over her hours and passion to make time away from children worthwhile.

And now AYU which means very feminine beautiful, her luxurious but affordable irish make up brand is nearly 10 years old, its selling internationally and through Suzie’s it is a growing team with a culture that celebrates women and supports parents.

We talk about how the fear of staying stuck was greater than the fear of starting her business.

How there were days she felt like it could all come crumbling down.

How much her partner has evolved his own work/home balance.

And how ultimately, if you need to make a career change, just go for it!

Believe in yourself. You can do it.

In this week’s episode our host Sinead is joined by Naomi Clarke, or The Style Fairy as you might know her better to talk about becoming a mother to her 3rd baby girl Kaia.

Naomi has been open about her type1 diabetes and how this impacts her pregnancies in the past with all her girls arriving early.

And how her 2nd baby Luna May was in NICU for 2 weeks where she was supported by the incredible teams that care for our tiny heroes.

But despite these 2 high risks pregnancies Naomi could just feel that there was one more baby out there that she just had to bring home to make her family complete. Her baby Kaia.

Here we talk about this maternal instinct, life with 3, reflux, siblings and how in those early baby weeks we are all just in survival mode.

For Naomi that’s wearing something that brightens her mood, managing her energy, her blood sugar and working on meaningful projects that matter.

As a mum of 3 babies born early, Naomi cares about supporting other parents by sharing her experience in her new role as a brand ambassador for WaterWipes the No.1 wipe against nappy rash and with us on everymum the podcast; so other parents going through similar experiences can feel less alone.

Whether it’s in the classroom or the football pitch, we tell our children to be kind.

Not to bully.

We also tell them to do what we do.

To see us as their role models.

And yet. As we’ve seen after football games, or in workplaces, or… online anonymously in groups and gossip sites, adults, women, mothers are sharing hate.

In this episode Sinead talks to Claire Balding best known for sharing her experience of hair loss and creating Trua a clinic supporting hair regrowth, to talk about her experience of online hate, boundaries being crossed and strangers making her feel afraid.

How when she checks their profile they are often mothers themselves and how it was in fact this weight of keeping up with motherhood, the not being able to admit to needing a break, or asking for help or showing the world that it was even a little bit hard which contributed to her alopecia and hair loss in the first place. I understand this fear of being judged or shamed or cancelled or thought of as less.

But I know we are raising brave.

So we need to do better because hashtag bekind is not enough.

If not for each other, but because our kids are watching our every step.

At the beginning of this season Sinead spoke to Orla McConnon, who at the time was just a couple of weeks away from the birth of her first baby - it was an episode all about anticipation, excitement & expectation for what was around the corner.

Orla is back to take us through the reality of the labour, the birth and the first six weeks of motherhood.

We talk about stitches, boobs, pumps and pain, the unexpected moments and unexpected feelings.

We talk about the joy but also the sadness in realising that nothing will ever be the same again.

And we talk about the type of things that every mum should feel safe to talk about… that you can love your baby and the magic and the joy and still find it hard.

In this episode, Editorial Director of Image.ie Dominique McMullan joins Sinead to talk openly about the birth of her first baby Kai.

Her beloved bump was about to be born but her baby’s position led to complications, pain, an instrumental birth, alarms going off and rooms flooded with people.

It was traumatic. Trigger Warning

It impacted her wellbeing.

It impacted her mental health.

It is a lived experience.

But Dominique like many, suppressed and tried to behave as though she was a new mum who had it all under control.

Until a pandemic, covid, a miscarriage and the chance to see her sister for the first time in a long time and it all came to the surface.

Now due her second baby in only a few weeks, Dominique explains how this experience of trauma affected her, how she found help and how she is healing herself and her courage in preparation for the arrival of baby no2 later this summer.

Meet Linda, the woman behind Women Ascend and the #bettermaternitycare campaign which has been fighting for the maternity care restrictions in Ireland to be lifted - (once it was safe to do so.)

Linda has been pushing for greater rights and equality for decades but when she became a mother she really saw how women can be silenced, disempowered and held back in so many ways through work, through the inequality of the juggle and in how decisions can be made about our maternity care - without us.

This episode was recorded before the announcement this week by the Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly that all maternity restrictions were to be lifted in every hospital nationwide.

A lot of questions remain as to how and why this announcement has taken so long.

But one thing we know, the power to ascend when women use their voices together.

This weekend we celebrate the men in our life, affectionately known as "Dad".

And our host Sinéad O'Moore is joined by our first dad on everymum the podcast, Keith Walsh.

Keith is a broadcaster, writer, podcaster, Dad of two and mental health advocate as he shares the very many benefits he has experienced as a man and father since starting therapy.

In this episode Keith shares his own arrival into fatherhood and how it took a while to figure out his new role.

How therapy thought him to show vulnerability and pass on essential life skills to his kids about what to do if you don't feel ok.

And about his own upbringing and experiences of domestic violence as a child and how as Dad's, things we push down can often come back up to the surface once our children come in to our lives.

We talk a lot about how mothers need care and support to allow them be at their best for this demanding role - but its so true also for the dads we love and lean on.

And so we hope this is the first of many conversations with Father's.

If you enjoyed it or found this episode supportive then please rate, leave a review or share by tagging everymum on instagram.

Thanks Keith for being our NO1 Dad.

How it feels when pregnancy makes you ill.

In this episode our host Sinead O'Moore is joined by journalist, beauty editor, creator of Private Education podcast and brand new mum Aisling Keenan because after the initial joy of conceiving, hyperemesis kicked in, followed by gestational diabetes and then right at the end, pre-eclampsia for good measure.

Her experience took her so far away from loving the process, from loving her bump.

It denied her the joy of joining in with the excitement, the moments of glow. Of loving pregnancy.

And here she explains how it wasn't just the nausea, vomiting or high blood pressure - it was the grief for the pregnancy she had hoped for, the guilt for not feeling the things pregnant women are supposed to feel, the vulnerability for the first time being so ill. The absolute isolation of growing a baby while so sick within her 4 walls.

And then the relief…. When it was over.

It’s ok to hate the symptoms of pregnancy.

Our bodies go through so much - so if you are not ok, take all the help you can, speak to your Gp or hospital team and be cared for.

Don’t suffer and don't be hard on yourself.

In this episode host Sinéad O'Moore talks to Dr. Vanessa Creaven who pre pandemic was living a fast paced international, business building life with the success of Spotlight, the oral care brand she started with her sister Lisa.

Motherhood was always on the agenda but didn’t seem possible right now. Until the pandemic grounded her like all of us.

But that wasn't the last of the twists and turns of pregnancy.

High blood pressure impacted her health and then came a covid positive test result at 36 weeks pregnant. With only weeks to go until the birth of her first baby, Vanessa felt isolated, vulnerable and at the time grateful to be unaware of the risks covid during pregnancy can have on your unborn baby.

What could have been an incredibly stressful event thought Vanessa so much about motherhood and how her body needed her to be kind to it. How her mind needed to stay in touch with her business. And how her baby would be the saving Grace of an incredible year.

We talk birth, business and the transformation we make as women.

We are back for season 5 of everymum the podcast, supported by WaterWipes, the no1 wipe against nappy rash*.

To kick off this season we have a very special episode with Orla McConnon @theorlacle who recorded with our host Sinead O’Moore just weeks before Orla gave birth and became a mother for the first time.

We talk about her hopes, fears, excitement and nerves.

We talk about how it’s impossible to know what to expect.

We talk about her birth plans, self care plans and new life plans.

And how incredible it is to think that in just a few short weeks, her baby will be here and her world will be forever changed.

To make this extra special.

This is only one part of the story as baby Indy arrived into the world one week ago and we will be catching up with Orla later on in this season to hear if her expectations were anything like the reality.

This is an episode about a daughter, who loves her mother.

3 years ago, Nikki Whelan and her family lost their mum Tina Fitzpatrick to luekemia.

Tina was a young woman, still in her 50’s, and was lost all too soon.

And after a listener asked everymum to cover the topic of mothering without your mother everymum asked Nikki a mum of 3, and owner of Little Bow Pip & Backstreet Dance Studio Dublin to be our guest and share her experience of losing her mam, the grief, the strength and the impact it’s had on Nikki as a mother herself.

Nikki was a mum of 2 when Tina passed away in 2018 but has since had baby Sonny.

She explains the incredible special relationship Tina had with Nikki’s two children and how different the experience of a new baby is without her, how special yet poignant Sonny’s birth was and how while on a family wedding in Portugal, Nikki needed her mam like never before.

We will never stop loving our children and our mothers will never stop loving us.

Even if they are gone too soon.

MATRESCENCE

Becoming a mother is not just about the birth of a baby. It is also about the rebirth of you. Your Matrescence.

A radical identity shift that is so powerful that it can also knock us off balance if we don't understand what’s happening within us.

From experiencing her own transformation after 3 births, fertility challenges, an ectopic pregnancy, early onset of labour and months of bed rest to get to due date, Layla began to process it all.

Here with host Sinead O'Moore Layla shares the impact of her first 2 births in Germany with incredible postpartum support followed by a third here in Ireland with little to no support led her to study what happens to us in postpartum and how we’ve forgotten to nurture and support women after birth through genuine rest, healing, talking, nourishing and restoring.

And nuanua was born, where Layla can now be that support for women.

Layla now provides therapies and guiding supports to help women prepare for postpartum, to understand whats ahead, to nurture them through this transition with the ambition to feel happy again in their own skin.

Find out more about nuanua here

This is an epic conversation with heavily pregnant drama, a race to A+E, an emergency birth and a journey to diagnosing silent reflux and cows milk protein allergy. This is Nessa Hurley and baby Florence’s story - full of resilience and love from start to finish.

The first half of this episode talks about Florence’s birth in September and could easily be turned into a movie,

The second is a much needed honest account of Florence’s digestive issues and the lengths parents will go to find a solution.

Here host Sinead O'Moore and Nessa talk about Cows Milk Protein Allergy, Wind and Silent Reflux.

How resilient parents are.

How all that matters is the health of our babies.

And how yet again, we need to always trust our gut.

Every single one of our children is different, they each have different talents, different growth spurts, different hair colour.. And they thrive when we focus and celebrate their different abilities instead of seeing the dis-abilities.

To mark World Downs Syndrome Day I’m joined in this very special episode by Melissah Mullins, The Mind of a Mammy - a mum of 3 girls, Evie, Daisy and Ruby to talk about how she is raising them to be strong, capable and confident.

At 25, Melissah became a mum for the first time to Evie, who just happened to have an extra chromosome.

What was a shock at the time and something that sounded bad - in fact is what makes Evie incredibly special with boundless love - she spreads joy everywhere she goes.

And now, Melissah is doing incredible work with her page The Mind of a Mammy to help us all see the ability and change what we think about Down Syndrome and to raise money for Down Syndrome Ireland - DONATE LINK

Whether it’s a different country, county or simply outside your 5km, we are all missing home.

In this episode we catch up with Irish mum Laura, The Glam Shamrock to talk about what it's been like living in the UK this year and missing Ireland.

Dreaming of landing home in Dublin Airport with her son Flynn, Laura shares what thousands of Irish mums who live abroad feel like right now. We talk about Flynn’s c-section birth and her recovery, how she has spent her first year of motherhood away from the people she loves, how pandemic parenting has shifted her priorities, the positives and negatives of a lockdown maternity leave and how she felt returning to work.

But above all, ahead of St. Patrick’s Day, how she feels about the next time she can be back on Irish soil.

Ahead of St Patricks Day this week, we hope this episode supports everymum missing Ireland, missing home, right now.

In advance of International Women's Day our host Sinead O'Moore talks to Kim O'Sullivan, mum of three and owner of the award winning brow mecca The Dublin MakeUp Academy

As a single mum in her 20’s Kim O’Sullivan was the last at creche to pick up her baby and yet not earning nearly enough.

Kim had a dream, she had a talent and now after the birth of Calum, she had a purpose.

And so she did what many are afraid to do - she left her job and embarked on a journey to becoming the business owner of the award winning The Dublin Make Up Academy, and she fell in love and has welcomed two more babies into this world - Alex and only a few weeks ago, her baby girl Indie was born.

We talk about how different an experience these births were, how her family are what give her the drive to pursue her business dreams and how through really believing in yourself, you can create the life you love.

Meet Amanda McGuinness, an incredible women and mother to 4 children - daughter Hayley and three autistic boys Conor, Jack and Max.

The arrival of Conor, Amanda's first son has taken her on an an exceptional 11 year journey from struggling to reach a diagnosis for her little baby to herself being diagnosed as autistic as an adult and now has become one of the leading autistic advocates in Ireland supporting thousands of families through littlepuddins.ie and the autistic educator.

Here with our host Sinead O'Moore she talks about those early signs, the judgements of others, how incredibly important finding a support system was for her and how her boys have transformed her life as she now understands and loves who she is.

*Trigger Warning

This journey is transformative and full of positivity and pride, but it also came with terribly low mental health days as Amanda describes the suicidal thoughts she experienced at the height of a period of depression which may effect listeners.

We want to thank Amanda for her honesty in discussing this with us as talking more openly really is the solution. If you need to talk about the issues raised in this episode please reach out to:

Out of something bad, must come something good, and sometimes all we need to do is to just go for it.

This week, host Sinead O'Moore talks to Sinead Kavanagh, mum of two and creator of The Beautiful Truth about her positive mental attitude, her family priorities and how after being diagnosed with cervical and then thyroid cancer she found herself motivated to do something for her.

Setting up her blog while recovering gave her a purpose each day and she built a community of like minded people to connect with and it's now given her more financial security and freedom to spend more time with her children.

And for so many of us right now, that’s what we need.

This past year has wildly shifted our priorities and what we want to get out of life.

So whether it’s a new home, a new job, getting your health checked, another baby or a new passion - start today, do it for you.

To kick off season 4 our host Sinead O'Moore have a story with a very happy ending as broadcaster and mum of 3 Suzanne Kane talks to us about Sadie, her 2020 Rainbow baby.

In December 2019 Suzanne heard those words she never expected to hear “there is no heartbeat”.

Bruised with sadness she did what many of us do and put on a brave face, suppressed all that emotion, pretended it didnt happen and didn’t dare dream for another chance. But in the midst of all that went wrong in 2020, something went very very right and as Suzanne explains, Sadie, the measure of her dreams was born.

Here, in Suzanne's very warm honest and witty way we talk about how she felt through her grief, and her joy, her pandemic pregnancy & birth and the love upon meeting her gorgeous girl at the end of her rainbow.

We get one magical life - it's our job to live it, and live it well.

This week our host Sinead O'Moore is joined by Alannah Sheehan a mum of three who earlier this year was diagnosed with terminal cancer but somehow has learned a new level of appreciation and happiness as she lives her life worth fighting for.

This most devastating news has taught Alannah incredible life lessons and here she shares them with us.

This week last year, Alannah was on top of the world, her third child and first baby girl Phoebe was born. By March, she was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme a rare incurable cancer with only a 50% chance of surviving past 2 years.

I can’t find the words to sing enough praise for Alannah Sheehan.

I can’t explain why every single person must listen to her talk.

I can’t ever thank her enough for her words and perspective which have changed how I will forever appreciate and prioritise my health.

Read more about Alannah’s story here.

Women are the glue of society.

If we are happy and cared for so are our children, our families, are friends, our society.

But when we forget about what we need, we crack and so do all those around us.

Fitness and connections are ways that we care for our bodies and our minds but after babies arrive its really tough to carve our this time, and to do it safely. Add COVID to that and it can feel impossible,

This week our host Sinead O'Moore talks to Emma Dowling, creator of Empowered Mama about how she is committed to creating space for women and taken her mum and baby fitness business online to make sure that women are not abandoned right now and can receive the information, the training and the connections they need to be empowered and cared for.

everymum the podcast is back and to kick off season 3 supported by WaterWipes and to celebrate we are giving away a year’s supply of WaterWipes - enter here.

We are so excited to be re-joined by one of our most popular guests from Season 1, Ali Dee.

In Season 1 episode 10 “You’re having Triplets” Ali had just given birth to her 3 boys and shared their incredible birth story, her pregnancy and how nervous she was as her three babies were still being cared for by the team in the NICU.

One year on and we thought it was time to catch up and talk about what her first year raising triplets has been like - while growing stronger as a woman.

She tells us how she has made a commitment to herself to be at her best physically, how she’s had moments where she felt like she just couldn’t face the groundhog day, how she has an army of support and is never afraid to be honest when she is hitting the wall.

In the past year her triplets have gone from tiny premature babies to fun, adventurous and individual boys but they are not the only ones who have grown stronger as Ali too has transformed and as she says, “would never go back to the person she was before kids”.

Plus, stick around until the end as she shares a hilarious story where baby wipes and a mother’s love were truly tested to their limits.

In this final episode of everymum the podcast season 2 supported by WaterWipes, our host Sinead O’Moore talks to Confetti Magazine Editor and author Laura Cunningham about her experience of becoming a mum at 39 to baby Ziggy and as a single woman choosing to lovingly co-parent her baby boy.

We talk about the sequence of events we assume will happen for us in our 30’s, Laura’s pandemic pregnancy, induction and ultimate emergency c-section, having her best friend as her birth partner, the incredible love and coming out of lockdown as a mother figuring it all out, one baby step at a time.

In 2020, women are more empowered, supported and now choosing how and when they become mothers.

Motherhood shouldn’t have to be dependent on finding the right partner, or being at a specific age because life doesn’t always work out that way. Careers, opportunities, independence or ending a relationship shouldn’t have to compete with our fertility – because there is never a perfect time and all we have is now.

Nothing can prepare you for the moment you meet your baby, because when your baby is born, a mother is too.

In this episode our host Sinead O'Moore talk to Julie Millen from juliebyoga about the birth of her first baby just 6 weeks ago. Julie is right in the midst of the 4th trimester and the transformation from who she was to who she now is.

We talk about her journey to birth in the midst of this pandemic, about the love the anxiety and the unknown and about how despite never having a moment to herself some parts can feel super lonely.

Newborn days are intense, intense love, intense exhaustion, an intense transformation so take it slow, eat, stay hydrated and most of all lets stop expecting so much of ourselves – because although its incredible, its also really hard, and that’s ok. everymum the podcast was created for one reason - to get honest about parenthood. The joys, the surprises, the fears, the moments that form us and the ones we don’t hear people talk enough about – like in this episode about those first newborn days.

This episode and all episodes in season 2 are kindly supported by Waterwipes.

Born at 27 weeks weighing just 390 grams, Charlotte Keogh is Ireland's smallest surviving premature baby and one strong girl. Here our host Sinead O'Moore talks to her incredible mum Katie Keogh about their resilience, strength, courage and fighting spirit.

Katies journey began in 2017 when at her 20 week scan with her first baby Vincent, she learned that he was experiencing restricted growth and he wasn’t measuring as expected. It became clear very quickly that Vincent wouldn’t survive and at 27 weeks Katie delivered her little boy sleeping in to this world.

After needing some much needed time out to care for her own mental health, Katie was ready to try again and with much more knowledge and early intervention this time round the team at The National, Maternity Hospital in Dublin were able to keep this baby safe until the decision was made, again at 27 weeks that they had to deliver Charlotte to save her life.

Charlotte is a survivor, just like her parents who sat by her side for weeks on end and credit the incredible heroes of the National Maternity Hospital for having their healthy little girl thriving today.

The idea of a life in L.A. sounds glamorous and exciting and although it definitely has its benefits, as life changes with new babies and new priorities, sometimes we just need to be closer to home.

In this episode of everymum the podcast season 2, sponsored by WaterWipes, we welcome Swedish mum of two Sofie Larsson Skehan back to Ireland, we hear all about why she and her husband TV Host and Cook, Donal Skehan decided that now was the right time to leave L.A., their race to pack up their life and get across the world before the pandemic closed our skies and how as life changes she refocused on what’s important to her to confidently raise her two boys.

We talk about how there is no picture perfect parenting, how brand new people can just appear into your life and become your go-to best friends at 3am, how she learned to adapt to parenting solo when Donal would travel for work and how although routine is needed, sometimes learning to let go and be more open and relaxed allows more fun and adventure in.

And we couldn’t talk to Sofie without of course talk about weaning and food and how she is introducing her boys to love delicious healthy taste experiences – while letting them explore and create one hell of a mess.

In this episode of everymum the podcast season 2, sponsored by WaterWipes, I sit down and talk to Pharmacist and co-creator of Soul Space Miriam Hussey about how her approach to mind body and soul integrated wellness is essential for every mum.

In today’s world of non-stop activity, Soul Space recognises that our health is being challenged like never before and through her work as an Integrative Health and wellness coach, Yoga and Meditation facilitator, Miriam is leading the way in preventive healthcare and lifestyle as medicine.

Here she shares how she applies her knowledge to her own life as a new mum having given birth just 8 weeks ago, how she now knows how quickly as mothers we can forget about our needs and become depleted of energy and how when our minds are ease we are best able to prevent disease.

Miriam shares her gamechanger techniques to help us all reframe every situation and reset our stress levels so that we can be calmer, more centred and grounded mums.

But most importantly of all, we talk about how our health is not just physical and mental – but that the biggest pillar for our health and wellness today is our SOUL health.

You see, it’s only when our souls are nourished can we really feel fulfilled, full of joy, at peace and ready to elevate ourselves to being the best version of ourselves.

If after listening this is something that you want more support with, follow Miriam on Instagram for her powerful Soul Moments or explore if her Soul Space Elevate program is for you.

In this episode of everymum the podcast, mum of 3 under 3 Lisa Murrin aka @the_health_balance shares how finding her health balance has energised her both physically and mentally.

Lisa welcomed twin boys into the world in 2017 and knew from day one how important it was to her wellbeing to prioritise her own health balance so that she could give all she had to raising her two little boys.

But, like so many of us, post natal depression caught up with Lisa.

Here we talk about the signs and symptoms, how she found her way out, deciding to have another baby while still battling PND, the impact of hormonal shifts, breastfeeding, routine and how controlling her day as much as she can is a strength she leans upon.

The link between our emotional and our physical health is far stronger than food and exercise alone.

And following therapy for her anxiety Lisa confronted the real root of her fears, the tragic loss of her baby brother to cot death while she was just 2 years old. Every moment in our lives forms who we are today and here Lisa so kindly shares this experience with us so that we can all begin to talk openly about the root of our own emotional health challenges.

The last few months have taken their toll on all of us, but learning to surrender to the unknown has given Lisa a new freedom to enjoy her boys. As the co-founder of Eathos and Director of Operations at With Taste, her life has more pressures than ever and anxiety will always be a part of who she is, but through balance it can be used to propel her drive and success instead of holding her back.

In this episode of everymum the podcast season 2, sponsored by WaterWipes, we have a much needed honest conversation about Raising our children without Racism with Santis O’Garro @thecaribbeandub

Born in Montserrat, Santis moved to Ireland when she was a young child in the 90’s with her family. and realised that this country saw her skin colour as something different, and for some, it was an invitation for racist abuse.

Now in her 30’s and raising 2 children as a single parent in Dublin, she is a role model of strength, courage, compassion and empowerment as she speaks openly about the value of raising our kids in a world without racism, about how she took control over her life and her happiness, about how she addressed her mental health challenges and her financial security by becoming Debt-Free.

Santis’s honest experience is essential listening. Ending discrimination starts in our homes, and in the intentions, actions and beliefs of parents. Our children are watching and so at everymum we are committed to doing our best to listen, to educate ourselves, to share more diverse experiences of motherhood and to raise without racism.

In our second episode of season 2 sponsored by WaterWipes we have an incredible conversation with Dr. Clodagh Campbell, The Wellness Psychologist all about our minding our minds as mums.

Dr. Clodagh is a mum of 1 and expecting her second child later this year and in this episode talks to us from her perspective as a mum who has struggled with hyperemesis, mum guilt, anxiety and self doubt but also as a psychologist with powerful advice for every mum’s mind.

As a pregnant woman during Covid we talked about how her anxiety can rise, especially as scans and big appointments draw closer, how her intense hyperemesis took her mind to dark places but 2nd time around she has built a stronger support system to help her and how motherhood can be a trigger for a lifetime of mental health challenges to resurface and why psychology, counselling or simply talking can benefit each and every one of us.

We are incredibly grateful to be able to share this episode with you and believe that these conversations are vital for us now more than ever.

Our minds are no doubt challenged by everything that’s going on in motherhood, and heightened even more in 2020, but this episode can hopefully begin a journey towards better wellbeing for you and for every mum.

There are many many routes to motherhood – and every single one is magical.

In this episode, we are joined by author, nutritional therapist, model and new mum Rosanna Davison to talk about her incredible route to motherhood. With kindness she takes us through her story from that first pregnancy to sadly 14 miscarriages, the years of staying positive while trying to find a solution, the really hard decision to not carry her baby but to pursue surrogacy instead - to that moment, where she cut the cord and took baby Sophia into her arms.

Rosanna’s story is heartbreaking and beautiful in equal measure. Her resilience, courage and strength is honestly mind-blowing.

And hearing her personal and honest story, you can’t help but believe that becoming a mother is simply magical.

We hope you enjoy this episode, find some reassurance in this happy ending and have a very wonderful and very Happy Mother's Day. These are strange days but we are in this together.

In Ireland 1 in 6 couples will experience some form of fertility challenge – with secondary infertility accounting for 60 percent of this. So you see, if you are trying to conceive and it’s not happening, please know that you’re not alone.

This February on everymum we are putting our focus on caring for our fertility – physically, mentally and emotionally – because it matters so much and we believe that if we know more, talk more we can all support each other more.

If you’ve been trying for 12 months and are under 35 or trying for 6 months and over 35 it’s a really good idea to start thinking about getting some answers – even if it just means you can feel some reassurance. We know that you might feel scared or intimidated, but really the best place to start is by talking to your GP. So we asked Dr. Deirdre Lundy a GP specialising in Women’s Health for over 30 years to join us on this week’s special fertility matters episode.

Originally from the US Deirdre attended UCD medical school and never went back.

She has worked for all the family planning clinics around Dublin, for the Irish College of General Practitioners in the Women’s Health department, is a member of the “Ask the “Experts” panel for GPBuddy and started and continues to works in the GP gynaecology clinics in the Rotunda, Coombe and National Maternity Hospitals. A regular guest on Elaine on Virgin Media One and part of the team at the Bray Women’s Clinic, Dr. Deirdre knows what we all need to know about our bodies and our fertility and here she shares this information with us all so that we can feel less in the dark– because our fertility matters.

In this episode we learn

  • Why a GP can be the best starting place
  • The simple blood tests that can tell you a lot – Day 21 Progesterone, FSH, LH, AMH
  • Why it’s so important to test our partners fertility
  • The impact undiagnosed STI’s are having on our fertility
  • How IVF works and when couples should take this big step
  • Fertility success abroad
  • And why couples shouldn’t wait and worry but to take that first move and talk about their fertility to a Dr and to the people who love them.

Jen Hatton, Irish actor, comedian, one half of the Unpopular Opinion podcast and now mother of baby Bobby joins us on everymum the podcast.

From annoying questions we are all asked while waiting for baby to arrive to c-sections and post natal pre-eclampsia plus unexpected moments of chaos, there is power in seeing the funny side to life as a new mum.

The first 8 weeks of motherhood is a learning curve and in this episode we talk about that post partum doubt and overwhelm, we laugh about the silly overthinking, how the days disappear, how babies know exactly when to interrupt our routines and how difficult it is to simply get out the front door.

We talk about how having an online community has given Jen sound advice but that deep down we need to listen to ourselves and apply common sense.

Becoming a parent is a huge transformation and there are many laugh or cry moments but the love runs deep and we really can all figure it out while seeing the funny side of life with a newborn.

You can find Jen’s hilarious observations of life on her Instagram and youtube

It’s a really special episode that we hope will help every new mum.

Our little babies are so precious and even a minor illness can make every parent worry.

But when its more serious, sometimes the most obvious sign is our own gut instinct.

In this episode I sit down and talk with Orlaith Donlon as she shares her experience this year of trusting her gut feeling which was telling her that something was wrong with her little baby boy Rua.

After noticing that Rua’s weight wasn’t coming on like her other children, Rua began to have obvious breathing recessions. Although happy and other wise healthy looking Orlaith knew something just was not right and with the support of her GP fought for the specialist attention he needed.

As a mum of 4 and a trained midwife, Orlaith explains so kindly how it doesn’t matter how experienced you might feel, when something happens to your own child the emotional pain and weight of concern especially throughout this cold and flu season can be so heavy.

We talk about out the fear and worst case scenario thinking when it became real, how she grieved for the carefree healthy life she assumed he would have, how so often she needed to release these feelings without being told “everything would be ok” and how she now understands the power of letting people show their love by accepting their help.

We talk about how each and every one of us can protect those vulnerable in society by getting the flu vaccine and by washing our hands properly, about how when he stopped breathing all her CPR training went out the window in panic and how everyone in a community should know it so that we can all step in.

How being honest with your other children about what’s going on can help ease their fears and how resting in that precious post partum days gave her the resilience and power to keep going over the last very difficult months.

The only thing better than talking to Orlaith was seeing her little happy boy in her arms. And you can too by following orlaithdonlon or her hashtag rootingforroo on Instagram.

Every woman, pregnancy, birth and baby is unique. But we hope that you feel empowered and informed enough to experience what makes you feel the most supported and safe as possible during birth.

In this episode we sat down with Aisling Hamill, or Soulfully Aisling as her many Instagram followers know her.

Aisling is an inspiration to many mums as she promotes and shares experts in and experiences of positive birth with the aim of releasing the fear and empowering us all. She’s expecting her 4th baby in a few weeks time and has learned along the way what helps her feel safe, in control and positive about birth.

We talk about her 3 previous births, from traumatic to peaceful home births, perineum massage and essential birth preparation and how after a phase of maternal depletion and miscarriage her own wellbeing has become an essential part of her life and how we can all adapt healthy soulful habits to help us to prepare for a more positive and healthy motherhood.

This episode discusses the loss of a baby - a pain that no parent should suffer, but sadly many do.

The 9th to 15th October 2019 is baby loss awareness week where we remember the lives of babies lost in pregnancy or soon after birth. And where we respectfully acknowledge the strength of every parent learning how to heal after baby loss.

In this episode I talk to Sarah Tobin who very sadly lost her first born baby, Alice following birth. Her story, her courage, and her kindness in opening up so as to support anyone else who is experiencing trauma is honestly incredible.

Through her own healing journey, Sarah has discovered a practice called Tapping, or EFT Emotional Freedom Technique which can treat physical pain and emotional distress by restoring balance to your body’s energy by telling your brain that you are safe and can release any stress that you may be carrying – and she now uses this to help heal others through her supportive practice, tappingformums.

*Baby Loss happens to families every single day but so often goes untalked about. Healing starts through knowing that you are not alone, through talking, through keeping memories alive and through asking for help.

Please consult with the following services to find that support: https://feileacain.ie/ https://alittlelifetime.ie/ http://www.miscarriage.ie/ https://anamcara.ie/

Sarah Tobin has trained in Tapping & Matrix Reimprinting, and also Birth & Life Purpose Reimprinting, so that she can help others suffering from baby loss, birth trauma, miscarriage, infertility, adoption and on-going negative emotions that arise from these, and also just every day mum stuff that gets us down!

No one can prepare you for this momentous 1st year because nobody’s experience will be exactly like yours.

Every birth, baby and mum is unique with her own sets of insane highs and anxious defeats – especially in that incredible 1st year.

And while we always celebrate our child’s 1st birthday, we should also take a moment to recognise that when a child is born a mother is too and her 1st year is full of just as many milestones, growth, tears and smiles as a baby's.

In this episode we’ve gathered 3 women from our incredible team, Emma Parkin, Jennifer Roche and Siomha Guiney to chat what we all learned in our 1st year of motherhood and how important it is to connect on and offline with other mums who just get it and are here to support you.

To go back to work or not to go back to work?

In a world of limitless potential for women having it all is now placing us under pressure to do it all. Careers, family, friendships, fitness, social life, sleep, clean home and a happy relationship - oh and your own self care are now all expected norms.

In this episode we chat to Shoshannah Wood, a mum of two who realised that her ambition was to be a stay at home mum and raise her children without also having a full time career.

Yet she discovered that with this new role, also came a new identity, a new tribe, new feelings of loneliness and as we got deeper in to the conversation we uncover something that every mum feels in relation to this decision - anxiety.

Not one, not two but three healthy baby boys.

Just three weeks ago, Ali Dee joined a very small club of women in Ireland who have given birth to triplets and in this episode she take us through her extra special pregnancy, unexpected labour and life as a mum with 3 premature babies in the NICU.

From laughing out loud as she heard that there was not 1, not 2 but 3 heartbeats to having her tears dried in theatre by the most incredible team of midwives, Ali has taken each stage in her stride while leaning on family, friends, the staff in Holles Street and most of all her new support group – other triplet mums.

With daughter Georgia now a big sister to Bruce, Lenny and Ted, Ali and Chris having gone from parents of 1 to 4 overnight.

And in this episode we celebrate that it’s ok to be scared, it’s ok to be overwhelmed, it’s ok to cry, rant and worry.

But that at the end of the day, there is a village of support there for every mum and it’s ok to ask for help.

And as learn that the triplets were born on a very special date following a miscarriage late last year, this episode is here to remind us all that sometimes there is very little we can control when it comes to motherhood, except taking care of our own wellbeing, finding new levels of strength we never knew we had and a tribe of support.

In this episode of everymum the podcast we sit down and talk to the inspirational Irish athlete Derval O’Rourke about how she has gone from running at the Olympics and World Championships to now running the marathon that is motherhood.

Derval is a mum of 2 and passionate about supporting women stay fit and nourished with her health programme and website derval.ie and as a coach on RTE’s Ireland’s Fittest Family.

Being an athlete has thought Derval the benefits of looking after our bodies, of allowing ourselves proper rest and care and that becoming a mother has thought her that women need better and more support during this intense phase of their lives – especially when it comes to breastfeeding and all the benefits it brings.

We chat about how our identities can be rocked once we become mums. How Derval has had to accept that giving 70%-80% of herself right now is more than enough. How doing a TV shoot with a 3 month old can be overwhelming but achievable and how no matter how strong, fit or able you are – sometimes a car seat can literally beat you.

We hope this episode helps anyone who is running their own motherhood marathon and reminds us all to take care of ourselves too.

Every parents wants their child to be happy and healthy. But when their health is out of your control, focusing on happiness can sometimes completely change your world.

In this episode Sharon Myers, creator of Our Wheely Big Journey talks to us about Noah, her little boy who was born with a very rare disability called Escobar Syndrome.

We hear how she put on her supermum mask and powered on as though she could conquer it all without help.

How she inevitably hit the wall – but found her recovery in counselling and medication, or ‘antibiotics for her mind’ as she calls them.

And how with her husband Denis, Noah and daughter Sophie, the Myers family decided to go on a Wheely Big Journey together filled with fun, adventure, laughter, positivity and life.

Sharon’s outlook has created a world where Noah sees no limitations, where he can dream big dreams, be treated like another 8 year old boy and be raised by happy and healthy parents.

We hope this episode helps anyone who is caring for a child with any disability or special needs or who needs to be reminded that happiness can be found everyday, you just have to look for it.

In this episode our host of everymum the podcast, Sinead O’Moore sits down to talk with Jean-Marié Stander about the fertility challenges she and husband CJ Stander faced once they began trying to conceive.

At just 26 years old Jean-Marié was told that she had early onset menopause and that she and her husband CJ, the Irish Rugby International and Munster player might not conceive the family that they so hoped for.

Away from South Africa and now calling Limerick home, Jean Marie and CJ learned that just like 1 in 6 couples our fertility is not something that any of us can take for granted. Throughout we talk about how she had no idea she had endometriosis, her experience on hormone treatment, undergoing IVF and she helps us all learn what to say and what not to say to couples about their plans to conceive.

But this is a story with a very happy ending - a story of hope, of determination through disappointment, of the unspoken impact of fertility treatment and of the support that helped them to both keep the faith as Jean-Marié speaks to us while 36 weeks pregnant and ready to finally meet their baby girl.

Our fertility health is not something we should ignore and I’m so grateful to Jean-Marié for sharing her experience with us all.

We hope this episode helps anyone who is looking forward to starting or growing their much wanted family.

“We don’t inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children”. Native American Proverb

As Ireland is waking up to the need to be more environmentally friendly, at everymum we support women who are committing their time and their talents to building a better future for our children. Women who are pushing boundaries in politics and parents who are raising more socially and environmentally conscious kids.

In this episode of everymum the podcast, Deirdre Ní Fhloinn, mum of 3, Barrister, Solicitor and recently elected Green Party Councillor shares her personal journey of raising a family while fighting for climate change. We learn what’s holding women back from taking part in politics, how children are challenging us all to protect this earth and what we can do as busy mums to encourage our children to grow up to be environmental superheroes.

It hasn’t all been easy, and it’s certainly taken a huge amount of work and sacrifice, but Deirdre inspires us all to shout louder and to believe in the power of every mum using her strength and unique skills to do good.

It takes a village to raise a child – or maybe more importantly to support a mother. But in this modern world where women are embracing global opportunities, so many of us find ourselves experiencing motherhood in a new county, country and culture.

In this episode of everymum the podcast, one of our favourite make up and skincare bloggers Simone of simonescribes shares her tough experience of becoming a mum while living an ex-pat life in The Middle East.

When life through Simone a curve-ball at 8 months pregnant her final month of pregnancy and labour were frantic, stressful and not what she expected.

The mental anxiety of this experience, a traumatic birth and the absence of her village left Simone feeling numb, depleted, alone and lost.

We learn about the role of her digital village and how it helped her to stay connected, how the people she met through her digital community became her strength and her lifeline and how despite the great benefits of this support, there really is no match for physical friendships.

As we aim to support every mum and every unique experience, this episode is such a powerful tale of one mums experience when the expectations of motherhood don’t match the reality, when circumstances lead to increased feelings of loneliness and how friendship is the key to support, confidence and joy.

No matter the journey you take into motherhood, every mum deserves a community of support and a tribe that has our back.

In this episode of everymum the podcast, Ranae Von Meding shares her experience of using Reciprocal IVF with her wife Audrey to bring their two daughters into the world and how she discovered that as married same sex parents in Ireland, who used this form of IVF, that they do not both have equal legal rights to their daughters.

Reciprocal IVF or, ‘Shared Motherhood’ is a really special form of IVF treatment where one mum supplies the egg and the other carries and births the baby. But in Ireland, this means that only the mum who birthed the baby has legal parental rights – while the mum who gave her egg and her genetic DNA does not.

Ireland has taken huge steps in the last few years towards marriage and same sex equality and as we mark 2 years since the Marriage Referendum we want to shine a spotlight on a campaign aimed to achieve equal rights for all parents in Ireland – regardless of sex, sexuality or choice of fertility treatment.
